I SAW YOUR POST ABOUT THE PSYCHOPOMP HELMET AND I HAVE TO ASK HOW’D YOU MAKE IT??

i wanted to cosplay her at some point in the future but i’ve never tried my hand at prop making or anything of that matter really so i can’t wrap my head around any like basic concepts to make the psychopomp itself 😭😭

sorry for taking abit to answer, wanted to make sure I was at my PC to answer so I can give Exact Images n stuff of what I got/used

warning: you're gonna need some serious power tools for this. alotta bits I had to get help from my dad bc he has SO MANY hobbies that involve power tools lol

For the base:

you need a good helmet. n finding one of those ain't easy, so you're probs gonna haveta Make Do with something you can cut parts off of.

I used something like this, but cut off the parts that jut out at the ears and the lip at the front. The internal bit that keeps your Actual Head from touching the Actual Helmet is VERY helpful bc (atleast w/ mine) it wasnt a layer of foam or anything that'd be finnicky, it was just straps.

theoretically could also use a cheap-y baseball helmet though obvi you still gotta Mutilate it

For the accessories™:

The antannae are actual extendable radio antannae I harvested from an old boombox n another thing, but you can buy JUST the antannae online

the megaphone/satellite dish bit my dad helped me cut n gut a car alarm type thing and attatch it w/ this silicone stuff he had on hand

And the headphone pieces on the sides are a set of vintage radio headphones I found at a thrift store. these to be exact (they're not v rare n go for 10-30 bucks on ebay)

Though any old, chunky headphones could easily work. These were just what I had on hand. And, as a useful thing, the metal prongs connecting to the headband were perfect to easily bolt in place on the helmet and keep them flexible for easy putting on and taking off. The little radio speaker-y bits on the outside I added my dad had laying around though obvi not 1000% Necessary

And that's all really for the easily bought supplies

The front plate is Literally just a chunk of sheet metal he happened to have on hand, and added the bolts to. The fifth bolt in the middle is the only Functional one that actually attatches to the helmet

And the bit keeping the wires in place is a piece of plastic we melted to shape, painted accordingly, then hot glued in place. Added the screws to make it look abit more Cohesive with the rest of it.

The staples specifically on mine are holes drilled then w/ v thin wire fed through and twisted and trimmed.

Some smaller seams n details I added with super glue since it gave a v subtle raised effect, and bc it cracked in shipping I had to super glue some of the cracks back together Anyways lmao

also had to do alot of spraypainting to get it the right color. Make sure to paint the "accessories" seperate before assembly bc trying to tape off everything could end up Annoying and that way the metal bolts and the plate can retain their orig metal color to add contrast.

Also make sure you get Matte paint, bc it'll look goofy shiny. Preferably something meant for outdoor use bc those will have the more gritty textures you're looking for n its easy to find.

For any extra scuffing n details I did some dry brushing w/ grey and black acrylic to add depth. Best way to do it imo is add some drybrush with a scrappy old paintbrush then wipe away some with a paper towel

or just use a paper towel with a v tiny, thinly spread bit of paint

Hopefully this helps atleast some!! If you need more detailed shots of my helmet for better reference just lemme know, I just dont feel like going to grab her rn for a photo shoot lmao

Obey me characters as type of goths!

Authors Note: This is my first time writing so sorry if its really repetitive and these are just some of my personal headcanons and little mini imagines. I myself am also relatively new to the goth scene these might now be 100% accurate.

I hope you enjoy!

Lucifer:

I could really just choose one but I think that Lucifer would really like romantic, vampire, and victorian goth

Just look at him

He already has the whole vibe

Out of all of them I think he would like romantic goth the most since he's an old romantic at heart

definitely uses to name caramia as a term of endearment to you <3

Likes to wear more formal attire such as suits and lots of jewelry preferably chunky rings

Listens to Lebanon Hanover

Imagine spending a night with him listening to his records, sipping on nice red wine and him speaking sweet nothings to you

Mammon:

This one was actually really hard but I think Mammon would be into gothabilly

He gives me the vibe that he likes any type of 50s style clothing (think greaser style)

Listens to Elvis Presley

Definitely into things like vintage cars and decor

LOTS OF LEATHER JACKETS

Collects vintage horror movies

He doesn't watch them (mainly because he thinks their scary) just collects them because he thinks they look cool

Has at least one pin up girl tattoo

Loves going to old diners with you and taking you to old car shows

Definitely uses old slang

Calls you sugar or babe

Dances rockabilly like it's no one business

please look up real 1950s rockabilly dancing it looks like so much fun

Imagine him driving in his Demonio with you listening to rock 'n' roll and going to a club and dancing all night long just laughing with each other and just forgetting everything else :)

Leviathan:

I personally think he would be very into visual kei

He dresses a little more on the colorful side

Tries to incorporate some of his favorite animes into his fashion

Also gets a lot of his inspiration from them

Makes him feel more confident and it's kinda cosplay to him so he really likes it if you dress up with him

Learned to play guitar and bass because he wanted to play his favorite solos

Loves to do your makeup (only if you ask him bc he's too shy to ask you)

He still gets kinda shy if you compliment him but he really appreciates it

Especially since his outfits take a while to get on

HE LISTENS TO MALICE MIZER I DON'T MAKE THE RULES

Imagine getting ready with him to go to a concert and just seeing how excited he is to see his favorite artist and just having an overall great time with him

Satan:

To me this one is simple

He is a 100% New England Gothic type of person

He loves learning about the history such as the Salem Witch trials

His favorite authors are H.P. Lovecraft and Stephen King

His favorite book is Misery by Stephen King

Listens to The Shortwave Mystery

Fashion wise his style is more dark academia

Loves going to places that are haunted or hold cursed items

Frequent visitor of the Ed and Lorraine Warren museum

Also an old romantic

Writes love letters to you and closes them with a wax seal that has his sigil on it so you know it's him

Gives you flowers with special meanings

Calls you my heart or my joy since your the person who always makes him the happiest

Imagine him sending you a letter telling you to meet him in the library and he takes you on a date treating you like royalty and reading poetry he made specifically for you

Asmodeus:

Asmodeus would LOVE pastel goth

To him it's a perfect mix of dark edgy colors and bright bubbly colors

Loves accessories, mainly chokers and hair clips

Has A BUNCH of outfit choices for you if you want to try his style too

If you ask him to do your makeup say no more he's already sprinting to his room to get his makeup kit

Can and will dye your the brightest pastel colors if you ask him

His outfits are always perfectly coordinated

Pulls off black lipstick surprisingly well

Has graphic shirts and decorated socks for DAYS

Listens to Melenie Martinez

Calls you sweetie or love

Imagine him taking you out to Majolish, helping you buy pastel goth clothes since you've been wanting to try it out, he gives you the best tips about what accessories go best and him giving you endless praise saying how cute you look

Beelzebub:

Beel would definitely like health goth

He dresses more casually than his brothers since health goth is more wearing black and white sports brands

Really likes the music though

He listens to Molchat Doma during his workouts

I think he really likes tattoos but either is busy to get them or Lucifer doesn't let him

He works hard to keep both his physical and mental health in top shape so if you need a shoulder to lean on (both metaphorically and literally) or want a gym bro he's your guy

Calls you peach or honey

Knows a lot of comfortable goth brands if you want to buy some active wear

Imagine you come home from a long day at RAD and just being generally exhausted, you go to your room and soon Beel comes since he felt like you weren't feeling the best, he comes with your favorite snacks and you spend the rest of the night together enjoying each others presence

Belphegor:

I personally think that Belphie would be a trad goth but he barely has the time and energy for all that so I he would be an emo goth

I know what your gonna say BUT EMO AND GOTH ARE DIFFERENT I know that but I feel like he would find a way to combine them (also he thinks it's funny how it manages to get people angry)

Asmo takes his picture sometimes and adds a horrendous amount of blingees

Cuts his own hair

Owns so many band tshirts that his closet looks like a hot topic

I think he listens to Black Veil Brides or Twin Tribes

Acts like a stereotypical emo for shits and giggles

Always ends up forgetting to take off his eyeliner

Probably has a blog dedicated to astrology (Asmo got a hold of it and decorated it so much its like looking into the sun)

Probably has a few piercings

I think has has an eyebrow piercing and snake bites

Loves watching Tim Burton movies

Calls you my one and only or baby

Imagine waking from a nap to have a message from Belphie saying "Meet me in the planetarium", you go and he's there with a blanket and you two spend the rest of the night either stargazing, talking about astrology, or him reading to you some overly edgy poem talking about "your the light that reaches even the darkest parts of my soul" and "Will you be the Pon to my Zi?" (please tell me if you understand that reference)

It sounds super sappy but you know deep down he means it

i'm so glad you asked about siblings bc for whatever reason, my brain always defaults to only children if i'm not making sibling oc's asdfg he's an older brother to one miss anju, who is seven years younger than him! they're really close bc ko looked after her a lot while their mom kept busy with work; he was typically the one making her lunch, helping her with homework, and even the one showing up to award ceremonies/special events ( and he absolutely skipped school or his own stuff to attend ). ko isn't perfect, but anju, particularly now that she's older, admires how much he stepped in to not only help their mom but to make sure that anju never felt overlooked, too. she knows that she can come to him with anything, and he's gonna drop everything to be there for her :' )

how does his living space & his working space look like? chaotic? organized?

it's very neat and organized! the complete opposite of chiyo's asdfg ko is very big on things having their place and making sure to keep it that way. having a disorganized space makes it difficult for him to concentrate bc it just feels cluttered and crowded, and you can typically tell if he's going through something bc that's the only time his home and work area will get messy. the more stressed and/or busy he gets, the more the space around him reflects that. i also wanna say!! ko probably appreciates minimalism and simple color palettes... or just plain ol' black and white :' ) it's just easier to match furniture and whatnot if it's all varying shades of black, grey, and white! pls make him put some color in his apartment

is he still in love with chiyo or has that completely faded?

ASDFG ASKING THE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS!! AND WELL!! he thinks his feelings have completely faded :' ) until he meets chiyo again :' ) gradually, he realizes that it's really easy to fall right back into those feelings bc while they've grown older and changed, they still click so well. he can see himself dating her again, and maybe this time things could actually work, but ko can tell that chiyo still needs time. he can't hit her with " i still have feelings for you, " and expect her to take it well, not after finding out that she hasn't dated since they broke up. he's aware that she likely has a lot of fear surrounding love and vulnerability even now. ko is content to be her friend for now, though. he enjoys a good slow burn anyway <3 though, this isn't to say he's emotionally unavailable for anyone else who comes along! honestly, i think getting over chiyo and letting go of those feelings would be a fun plot point to explore, but that all depends on my writing partner's comfort level/interest. and ofc there's always the option of a lil polyship!! bc i can see ko being okay with it and actually contemplating the idea first bc he'd realize what's going on before the others most likely. i see ko as being very emotionally intelligent and confident, so he's probably the one pushing the other two to understand their feelings before finally going, " how do y'all feel about just? dating each other? all (x) of us? "

how does he dress like?

i think he keeps a very casual style most of the time, opting for graphic t-shirts and hoodies, comfy jeans, chunky sneakers, and the occasional dad hat. like chiyo, he wears dressier clothing only for work and special occasions, and when he does, he once again tends to gravitate towards greys and blacks with certain other dark colors thrown in. he'll probably avoid wearing ties as much as possible bc he always feels like he's being choked. generally doesn't accessorize very much, but you'll catch him with a ring or two on his fingers and a simple chain bracelet that anju gave him for his 25th birthday.

what are his thoughts on shonen anime & manga?

he enjoys them! but he tends to drop them for long stretches before picking them back up bc they tend to be so long, and he catches up with the released chapters pretty quickly ( though, there are shoujo manga that he does this with, too ). ko also tends to be kind of critical with how authors handle their characters and the relationships, though once again!! that's something he'll do with all manga and anime. i think he tends to kinda? skip over battle scenes or get tldr's from his friends bc he gets bored with those. he's almost always reading a manga for the lore and for the characters and the desire to see how they grow and whatnot, so reading the same battle scene for however many chapters is just :' ) not it for him :' ) even watching the anime gets tedious if the fight extends over more than two episodes. so the bottom line!! is he enjoys and appreciates shonen series, but they're not 100% his cup of tea.

does he enjoy sailor moon & who is his favorite sailor senshi?

he does!! tbh magical girl series in general somehow get a pass for battle scenes, but if i'm remembering right?? sailor moon's fights don't typically last for a ton of episodes! but anyway!! he grew up watching sailor moon with his mom and then his little sister, so it's got a special place in his heart :' ) his favorite sailor senshi is miss rei/sailor mars!! he tends to gravitate towards the more " fiery " characters in a series, and rei is definitely the cause of that. he also adores usagi herself bc she's such a goofball and secretly ships her and rei together!

you’d be the first one to admit that you had an exhausting horrible night

being a nurse sUCKS the life out of you and as much as it’s fulfilling, you almost always feel the urge to admit yourself to the ER for being extremely fatigued

it’s all worth it!! it should be

after all, paying for a mansion in an exclusive village and sharing it with your friends doeS warrant some elbow grease

seokjin works in wall street and sometimes he comes home crying but it’s okay because you do have an expensive fridge that everyone worked overtime for <3

hoseok’s a veterinary assistant and is your trusty friend who always sends in pictures of the animals that come in to cheer you up while at work

namjoon’s a painter by passion and accountant by profession!! he does only come out with a few pieces at a time but mAN does it rake in the money

jimin’s a flight attendant and does everyone the pleasure of securing either free or discounted tickets, and bringing home unused airline towels to dry off the dishes!!

lastly, taehyung’s someone you can call a former trustfund baby or somewhat :O the last big chunk of money he spent from his fund was the downpayment and security deposit for this mansion!!!

it’s a long story and he’s currently all over the place but he’s finding regular jobs!! his latest gig was working at a high-end ice cream place but he immediately quit once he learned that he needed to put his back into it and not just scoop up ice cream like he did in his dreams :((

most importantly, taehyung has a baby :-)

he’s a dad!! a single one at that

it’s truly a LONG story but the bottomline is that he has nabi, his cutest little dumpling!! and he has all of you, his friends who didn’t hesitate to step up as nabi’s parents in a way too even if he didn’t ask any of you

you all love the chunky monkey so much that you’ve all taken the liberty to call him your baby at times and tae doesn’t even mind!! nabi’s so lucky (he hopes) to have him as a dad and his friends as his cool uncles and aunt

nevertheless, you indeed had a bad night working the night shift and came home to nabi’s birthday party just in time!! :D

he turned two years old at midnight and even if you weren’t physically present at the mansion like the guys were (they requested their leaves two months earlier) because of being understaffed, you were able to see him and tae blow out multiple cakes that each one bought him

seeing him giggle at your arms just by doing the bare minimum makes you full already <3

all your exhaustion is melted away because it’s your favorite toddler’s birthday party!! the party that you all insisted on shelling out for that made tae almost cry bc of how much you all love his son

“jimin i am not sewing your forehead up when you end up falling in the wrong angle,” you roll your eyes at him who’s currently doing backflips in the bouncy house that managed to fit in the mansion

“hoseok can!!” he yells back and backflips twice in a row, much to the actual children’s amusement and your worry

“i will NOT stitch you up! the thread i have is for the pregnant dogs only!!!”

everyone’s entertaining guests left and right, including taehyung who’s the dad of the little man of the hour :D

he keeps pointing at nabi who’s currently in your arms every ten seconds and it’s now your job to make him giggle every single time to wave at the people

“what do you want, monkey? do you want some ice cream? i won’t tell your dad,” you eagerly ask the wide-eyed baby in your arms, pointing at the ice cream cart that namjoon probably ordered

“no thank you!” nabi cutely aND politely declines, his head shaking no and his speech and pronunciation getting clearer day by day

most of the time though he says it like tHANK YEWWWW and you would immediately grin every time because it’s the cutest thing ever

“hmm, look at that!! face painting!! do you want some butterflies?”

you point at yet another station that you guess seokjin arranged, knowing that at some point into this party, he’d all drag you in here to get matching marks or something lol

nabi once again declines, his eyes searching around that makes you do the same on what you could do to entertain him

he has the same habit down like taehyung and loudly gASPS, pointing his finger and almost shrieking in excitement

“bawoo — balloon!!! balloon!!!”

it is now your life purpose to walk as fast as you could to this balloon station with nabi bouncing up and down your arm in excitement

jungkook’s having the time of his life here :D

normally he’s mostly called in the holiday season and occasionally at big birthday parties (the one where like two sides of the family share every baby’s first birthday party lmao) throughout the year!!

but he’s never had a client who requested him for a singular birthday party!! let alone at a hOUSE

ok maybe that was an understatement

he means a mansion

if he’s being quite honest, the mr. park jimin he spoke to on the phone sounded too kind that he just mistakened him for a party planner or something

he immediately said yes because he had no on-site bookings for that day, or even the week perhaps, and expected to stroll into a carnival in the middle of an executive village

aha :D jungkook is wrong :D

jimin met him by the front door wherein a lot of people are already crossing paths such as catering and not to mention the bouncy house you cAN’T miss, and just briefly touched in on the situation

“oh no, i’m not the dad, man — but thanks!! i’m his uncle. nabi’s dad is my friend, taehyung. and me and my friends, including taehyung, all live here. we’re all like family, basically.”

jungkook saw the other stations invited and he expected that his would have less children y’know?? bouncy house, ice cream station, facepainting, hotdog cart aND magic show???? yeah <3

but god is he wrong

the children are in a single-file line for hIM and his balloon artistry!!! the requests range from pretzels to pirate hats to chandeliers with the bulbs as smiley faces!!!

he’s managed to do all of them so far and he’s now made a decent dent on the line of children waiting for him

jungkook is a happy and content balloon artist :D

“EXCUSE ME! BIRTHDAY BOY COMING THROUGH!!”

you’re walking at full-speed and holler out, making sure to emphasize birthday boy because nuh-uh you and nabi will nOT line up for his own party <3 thank you very much

the children coo and the older kids coax the other ones to make way for the both of you to the front of the line, immediately plopping to a mini chair in front of the guy

“hiiii!!”

nabi drawls politely and waves his hand, making you do the same

“what a cute little thing,” the guy in front of you coos and it’s his voice that perhaps makes you melt a little, just seeing the top of his hair for now because he’s crouching down to be eye-level with nabi, “what can i do for you, little buddy?”

he toothily grins and straightens his posture, raising his eyes to look at who’s holding nabi in place and-

???????????????????

jungkook literally stops breathing for a second

“h-hi!! what can i do for you today?” jungkook squeaks, his eyes even more wide and curious to look at the prettiest girl he’s ever seen in his life

you’re sure that you were gonna stammer once you open your mouth so you don’t at all, instead focusing on nabi who’s on your lap

“what do you want, monkey?”

“nabi please! i want nABI!!! nabi nabi nabiiiiiiiiii-“

“yes. he wants nabi, please.”

jungkook nods fervently, his hands about to pluck ballons from his kit before he realizes to ask

“does he want his face? or like, his name? what colors do you want, bud?”

he’s not the least bit bothered at the choices in his head because you’re widening your eyes on what could this guy dO with just balloons, knowing to yourself that even pumping one is difficult work already

“oh! he wants nabi,” you clarify and jungkook tilts his head, mouth slightly agape at to what you’re trying to get at, “butterfly, i mean. nabi knows that his name means butterfly and he likes them a lot! don’t you, monkey?”

nabi nods so hard that it almost gives him a headache and jungkook wants to facepalm himself to the grave

“r-right! why didn’t i think of that?? because nabi means.... nabi....... right!! sorry, oh my god. o-oh! i meant oh my gosh. i uhm-...”

he’s a mess and he knows it, letting his hands take over and grab the same theme colors of blue and lavender from his bag to start on his work

kook tries not to lift his head up ever so often because you’d find him out instantly that he’s looking at you

so what he does instead is peer and coo at nabi every few seconds and tHEN look up at you because you also giggle whenever he giggles

he’s probably feeling pressure with the way your eyes are set on him too and what he’s doing that he pOPS a balloon right with his hands

“sorry, sorry! did i spook you?”

jungkook’s worried because he heard a collective gasp from the kids around him but his main priority is the birthday boy AND you

nabi’s shoulders rose and that’s about it

he shakes his head to himself, looking at you who’s carrying a curious gaze on your face that looks amused

“sorry. i-it’s just you’re so pretty and-“

he’s embarrassed himself in front of a pretty girl and her son and-

wait a second

the color just dRAINS from his face and he’s about to quit at the second

“oh my god i am so sorry. y-you must be nabi’s mother. you’re mr. taehyung’s-“

“friend!! i’m y/n, i’m just taehyung’s friend,” you interject quickly because you cannot believe that pretty boy called you pretty, and at the next breath thought you were taehyung’s wife, “and nabi’s my nephew. we’re all just friends who live together!! i have no boyfriend, if that’s what you’re thinking.”

yeah maybe you embarrassed yourself this time

you may have said too much information to the balloon artist but jungkook’s just staring at you fondly

and nabi’s switching his gaze between the two of you and claps his hands to snap the two of you out of it lmao

kook chuckles to himself and he cannot stop smiling, even when he’s tying the last balloon to nabi’s butterfly

“there you go, cutie. happy birthday!!” he hands nabi the hUGE butterfly he just made but the sheer difference of how big it is makes the toddler even more happy, hugging it to his chest

jungkook watches you pepper kisses on nabi’s cheeks and that launches him into quickly pulling out balloons while your eyes are deviated from him, hands twisting and turning like his wHOLE LIFE depended on it

“my name’s jungkook, by the way,” he calls you when you’re just about to stand up, smiling giddily at you, “thought you should know.”

before you could thank him, he extends his arm and your mind recognizes the familiar shape which makes you smile instantly

jungkook made you a flower balloon <3

you laugh as the only thing you can smell from it is latex, the huge flower staring at you right in the face

BEFORE YOU READ FURTHER: this is very long. if you are not into cupcakes, bookmark this for later when you suddenly decide to make cupcakes and keep scrolling. now with new added read more for additional readability <3

making cupcakes takes me about two hours if i’m doing two batches or an hour and a half if i’m doing one. it might take you a little longer the first time because you don’t quite know what order to do things in or how long everything takes. i like to start my fillings first because they take longer to be ready, then turn on my oven, then mix my batter, then make the frosting while cupcakes are baking.

SUPPLIES

you will need: a cupcake tin, cupcake wrappers, at least one large mixing bowl (2 is recommended to avoid a lot of washing dishes between steps), a hand mixer or a lot of elbow grease, spatula, whisk, small bowl, a small grater or microplaner, a piping tip + bag (or just a plastic bag with a hole cut in one corner) and at least one saucepan or small frying pan. measuring spoons/cups are useful but i’ve tried to include thicknesses and alternatives so you can eyeball it if you have to (i usually do, just because i know what i’m looking for lol)

you will also need some of the following (check your specific cupcake type to find out which): a box of cake mix or ingredients to make your own cake mix, cream cheese, condensed milk, butter, powdered sugar, lemons/limes/oranges, chocolate, vanilla extract (real is recommended; i know it’s more expensive but the increase in quality is worth it if you can), lemon extract, heavy cream, pumpkin pie spice (or at least nutmeg + cinnamon), and fruit of your choice.

CUPCAKE

okay so: box mix is fine. it’s good. great, even. as long as you do this: replace the oil with butter. add an extra egg. i don’t care how many eggs it calls for. i know it feels like a lot of eggs. add an egg anyway. add a sprinkle of extra salt. a tsp or so. you’ve already made a good cupcake!

vanilla:

add a tablespoon (about three capfuls, if you don’t have measuring spoons) of REAL vanilla extract if you can afford it (or i really like the vanilla paste that has specks of bean in it. 10/10)

citrus:

one teaspoon (one capful) vanilla extract. two-ish teaspoons of lemon extract. zest of one lemon. zest of one orange (i like blood orange particularly much) or lime. replace 1/2 cup of the water with lemon and lime or orange juice. add about a tbsp of extra sugar.

spice:

two teaspoons pumpkin pie spice (you can see the spice in the batter without it discoloring the batter) + one tablespoon vanilla extract.

chocolate:

it’s already perfect xoxo. JUST KIDDING. add a tablespoon of vanilla extract.

instructions:

these ratios are for 24 cupcakes. take your cupcake pan and line it with cupcake papers. you can grease the top of the pan if you’re anxious, but it shouldn’t be necessary, especially if you have a nonstick pan. then just mix your batter until it’s not particularly lumpy and fill your cupcake papers about a third of the way full. a quarter cup measure is easiest for me to use bc the amount that easily comes out of it is about the right amount & it drips less than a spoon does. then i like to use a spoon to push the batter up the sides a little so it holds the fillings better.

FILLINGS

you can mix and match the hell out of these, honestly. i typically do cheesecake in everything & then fruit in vanilla or citrus cupcakes, specifically apple or cranberry in spice cupcakes, & chocolate in vanilla or chocolate cupcakes.

cheesecake:

one package softened cream cheese + 10 oz (2/3 a 14 oz can) condensed milk. stir on low heat until smooth, then add 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. DON’T add sugar. it’s not supposed to be very sweet.

fruit compote:

literally just half a cup or so of frozen or fresh fruit. i’ve done this with raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, apples (fresh and cubed is best), and peaches. anything is fair game, honestly. i want to try stewed kumquats and plums at some point. if frozen, add a tiny bit of water. if fresh, add about as much water as you have fruit. squeeze some lemon and lime in there. add sugar to taste. for the apple spice mix, add another teaspoon of vanilla and a teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice.

IMPORTANT: you do NOT want this to be sweet. this is NOT jam. it should be a little tart when you taste it. if it’s not thick enough, slurry a tbsp of cornstarch in a little bit of cold water and stir it in. it should be thick enough to not drip off of a spoon when you turn it upside down.

ganache:

heat a cup of heavy cream on very low heat. i like to do a double boiler: saucepan half-full of water, bowl full of cream in the saucepan. when the cream is warm, stir in most of a package of dark chocolate chips. stir HARD—whisk the shit out of it. DO NOT let any of the water get into the bowl!! you want the ganache to be gloppy when you lift it with a spoon—it has to not soak into the cupcake mix.

instructions:

so you have your 1/3 full cupcake wrappers with the batter spooned a little bit up the sides. using a small kitchen spoon, drop a spoonful of cheesecake into each cupcake. then top that with a spoonful of ganache or a spoonful of fruit compote (or both! it’s your kitchen!). spoon batter over the top and down the sides. fully covered, it should come to just under the top of the cupcake wrapper—i usually have 1/4 to 1/8 of an inch grace.

pop that in the oven according to the box instructions. i usually find that cupcakes with fillings take the longer time listed, rather than the shortest one. when your time goes off, touch the top of a cupcake. if it feels firm (think: ripe plum; you can push on it and it’s soft but it doesn’t cave in), it’s probably done. you can also put a toothpick down one of the sides, rather than the middle. pull your cupcakes out of the oven, put in your second batch, and set these aside to cool.

FROSTINGS

there are two frostings that go well here. i tend to like buttercream for vanilla and citrus and cream cheese for apple spice and chocolate. your mileage may vary. this is where the sweetness comes from, without overwhelming the cupcake!

buttercream:

let two sticks of butter (one unsalted and one salted) soften on your countertop. DON’T melt them. when they’re room temperature and you could mold them with your fingers, put them in a bowl. a mixer is best for this stage, but you can do it with a whisk and spatula if you’re determined, have patience, or can switch out with someone else. whip the butter a little. add five cups of powdered sugar, a cup at a time.

for a vanilla cupcake, add a tablespoon of vanilla extract (or vanilla paste! the specks are SO cool looking!) and use heavy cream to even out the texture until you think it’s pipeable (you’re looking for “holds its shape without being Chunky”). for a citrus cupcake, add a teaspoon of citrus extract and lime juice until it’s pipeable. two sticks of butter is too much, but one stick usually isn’t quite enough, and i prefer to have extra to practice piping with.

cream cheese frosting:

let one package (8oz) of cream cheese soften on your countertop. mix it in a bowl until smooth. add about four cups (3/4 a regular water cup, i think) of powdered sugar—again, we’re looking for “pipeable without being inflexible”. add a tablespoon of vanilla extract/paste and use heavy cream if you need to soften the texture at all.

both of these frostings take coloring very well. something that i personally love is doing a sort of gradient, where i’ll add red to one side and mix it well, yellow to another side and mix it well, make some orange in the middle, and leave some white here and there. then spoon from each section into a piping bag and voila, free beautiful swirls. you can also use a knife to frost your cupcakes, but i think piping is fairly easy to pick up on if you try it a few times, and it makes your cupcakes look that much more professional.

instructions:

make SURE your cupcakes are COOL TO THE TOUCH before you frost them! pop them in the fridge if you’re in a hurry! a single layer of piping should be enough, but decorate if you want. icing sugar is pretty. don’t go too overboard with sprinkles—they make it hard to eat.

voila! cupcakes.

SUBSTITUTIONS

i have made these gluten-free, dairy-free, corn-free, vegan, etc etc. gluten free box mix is fine. your own powdered sugar (powdered sugar + tapioca starch) is great. you can do a coconut milk pudding instead of cheesecake or ganache. you can do baking soda + vinegar instead of baking powder (1/4 tsp bs + 1/2 tsp vinegar per tsp baking powder). if you’re allergic to fruit, i am SO SORRY for you but please try the chocolate ones. you can substitute any extract, any flavor profile, any combination of ingredients. if you’re using a commercial egg substitute, just add an extra 1/4 cup of it. if you’re using flaxseed, just add an extra tablespoon of flaxseed + 3 tablespoons water.

it may not come out exactly the same as the standard ones, but my friends with dietary restrictions still swear by them. i have never brought cupcakes home from a party. i don’t think anyone who’s ever tried one has not gotten a second helping. people who swear they aren’t cupcake people love these cupcakes. (it’s because they aren’t overly sweet or moist or dry and they aren’t one-note, because the fillings add complexity of texture and flavor. there you go, now you know how to describe your new cupcakes to people).

that’s fair. sorry this took a bit, depression is real and it kicks my ass

also I use photoshop, that’s an important note, but here we go

first get the frame you want to tinker with, and slap the reference on there (if you have one)

fantastic. same, ava.

next, we’re gonna select ava in ur basic chunky setup. yknow. just grab the girl

using with image->hue/saturation or photofilter, you can tinker with her colorations a bit, but since I’ve been at this a long time I just jump directly into filter -> camera raw filter, as its got all the tinkering and hue shifts that I need

hmm. closer... not quite, though, bc she’s so red and orange, her base color ends up a maroon

lets tinker with a bit of photofilter blue and make her more of a plastic

fantastic. a bit on the green side, but I’ll work with it.

lets clean up those edges

good, now no more weird blue chunks for the background. now she just looks like she’s from an eiffel 65 video. you know the one

anyway lets move onto the hair

this was a bit more complicated. I ended up chopping out her hair and going through a few more filters to darken its luster, basing it more on a deep blue than a cerulean, and I also copypasted and curved some of her other locks to make a set of alright bangs as well as painting a lot to give her those flat edge bangs. from there I outlined her bangs a little to make em distinct

I also outlined along her original hair where I wanted it to be chopped off, so it would look a bit more natural than if i had just freehanded attempted to redraw her hair completely

actually who cares about hair when we can make ava look like an asshole

colorpicking from ava’s new palette and using the follower head for reference (thanks six) I thin her brows, flatten her teeth, change her expression via eyebrows from confused to skeptical, and round her ears

fantastic. she’s on her way to being a real asshat. let’s continue

bam

hair’s chopped. I ended up painting the sections in the bg where her hair used to be and also repainting a few of her locks around her ears, so it wasn’t so obvious I was just painting over preexisting hair. Give it a bit of a shade and texture difference to separate them.

from there I just used the pic to colorpick and eyeball the cut of her follower shirt

from here, I fix the color of the snacks and also give her a lighting outline, same as Odin’s color, to better stick her in the scene and straighten out some lines

she’s here to be passive aggressive and eat all ur snacks. its what six would’ve wanted

speaking of six, I take about a billion refs of them

and just cookie cutter their basic gear onto ava with some color changing and smoothing and repainting

I just ended up painting the gloves on, tbh, and I also forgot about the follower ear mods until 30 seconds before posting, so that was annoying

Also just use some Overlay + Soft Light blue colors over the speechbubbles if you want that blue
