Poor Jimmy Novak. And poor Sam. And poor Dean. And poor Amelia and Claire. And honestly, poor Cas. Poor dude just got heaven-tortured into a mental reboot. All those “doorways to doubt” have been slammed shut, and his compassion for humanity has been erased. (don’t worry, he’ll get that back eventually)

As for Sam, his whole bleak secret gets exposed in the worst way possible (driven into withdrawal by Ruby deliberately ignoring his pleas for a refill, and then pushed into a situation where he had a whole demon *right there* to drain, and innocents’ lives on the line to save). And then he gets shoved into detox.

And Dean has to witness it all. He’s been worried for Sam all year and the tower of lies has collapsed, just when he’s also lost the helpful Heavenly ally he’d just been winning over to his side. He hasn’t even got anyone to turn to for help with Sam now. Well, he’s got Bobby, but Bobby is also flying by the seat of his pants and has no concrete idea how to help Sam.

Amelia and Claire have had their lives upended all around, too. They’ll never be able to unsee what they’ve seen, they’ve lost Jimmy forever, and even the stability they’d gained after Jimmy left the first time is shattered. Amelia will become desperate to get her husband back at all cost, and Claire will become embittered toward the angel that possessed her for a hot minute, stole her father, and then abandoned them (and especially leaving her abandoned when her mother disappears).

Marching toward the season finale, everyone’s about to go up in flames.

You know, in all my thousands of years, what happened to Jimmy Novak and his family- it's my greatest regret.

I’m actually very interested in what the Cas and Jimmy Novak timeline says about Dean’s resurrection. Like was Cas popping over to work on communicating with Jimmy and gaining his trust while he was laying siege to hell? How does that work? One would think that’d be a full time job behind enemy lines until it was done. But Cas meets Dean in Jimmy’s body like… the day after he gets resurrected I think?

i love the idea of the angels true form being harmful for humans to watch is that its because its a concentrated visage of their divinity and creation, something no mortal can comprehend, and that most of the time, while in vessels and whatnot, it's just them putting a very small part of themselves in it, like a sock puppet on their true form's hand. it makes stuff like being everywhere all at once more plausible, like they have scattered pieces of their consciousness all over the place. cas in 4.20 tells dean in a dream to meet him some place, but when they arrive he's already gone, which means he was there when he was talking to dean, fighting, and splitting where he is with just a fraction of himself. it makes him being human all the more surreal to him since its the first time he's 100% in his full form but it still feels like he's a sock puppet.

Being blowed up isn't walking around and drinking with your buddies dead. It's little bits being swept up by a janitor dead, and I don't think you're ready for that. (Jack tries to leave but Xander blocks him. Xander is calm. Jack is clearly afraid.) JACK: Are you? XANDER: (glances at the bomb, smiles thinly) I like the quiet. (Jack and Xander face off, the bomb timer counts down. Both are taking deep breaths. At the last second Jack caves and deactivates the bomb.) XANDER: Good boy.

Actually. I think it’s really funny that Amelia Novak walked in on Jimmy sticking his entire arm in a pot of boiling water and not getting burned at all and she went “He’s crazy”.

The tnt loop has brought me to 4.20 again today, and I’m just gonna yell for a second again about Dean’s dream at the beginning of the episode, because why not?

Cas is standing over him, and after he gives Dean the message and disappears, instead of a shadow receding from Dean or the area growing brighter without Cas standing there... the brightness dims when Cas leaves.

Remember, this was inside Dean’s dream. This is Dean’s “vision.” His subconscious guiding his perception here. I just find this interesting.
