I rewatched the tribe about 2 weeks ago and for some reason ether I didn't pay attention the first time or my mind blocked it out but I didn't remember the grieving moments with Edgar about Sam and Alan those really got me in the feels

I know what you mean. I’ll be honest, I’ve only seen The Tribe once, compared to the three, or four times I’ve watched The Thirst. Edgar’s grieving moments sort of stood out to me, because they felt more connected to the original, and it was nice to see Edgar actually acknowledge that he loved and missed them. It’s a real pity that the deleted scene where Sam visits Edgar to help with Alan was cut. Things would have felt more complete if that had happened. Even if Mr. Haim couldn’t have made a third film, it still would have been better. Gosh I just...have many thoughts about how the sequels could have been.

1. Psycho (1960) - This one's obvious, right? 😄

2. Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977) - I grew up watching this and I've never stopped loving these characters.

3. A Hard Day's Night (1964) - One of my favorite bands in one of the best rock films of all time.

4. The Wizard of Oz (1939) - Another childhood favorite. Beautifully shot and Judy Garland's best performance.

5. Singin' in the Rain (1952) - Has to be one of the best musicals of all time and I adore Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds.

6. Strangers on a Train (1951) - Along with Psycho, my favorite Alfred Hitchcock film. Everything is perfect - acting, story, cinematography, music. Also Farley Granger 🥰

7. Maurice (1987) - So, so beautiful and the acting is superb. I love the love story between Maurice and Alec so much.

8. The Princess Bride (1987) - I have so many good memories watching this with my mom over the years. One of the funniest films of all time.

9. Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie (1996) - I remember seeing this in the theater when it came out and being so excited that my robot pals were on the big screen.

10. Roman Holiday (1953) - Just perfection.

Body horror ahead beware

I got my wisdom teeth out Friday and it’s healed to the point I can actually feel the meaty holes in the back of my mouth and I absolutely hate them

The worst part is I’m incredibly paranoid about getting stuff in the holes, especially now that I can feel them, but the back of the mouth is where humans are supposed to chew most foods so I can barely eat anything, which as you can imagine is doing wonders for my digestive tract (/s), which means I’m super nauseous, especially because I can feel the awful texture of the big meaty holes in the back of my mouth

Long story short, I hate it here

Honestly, as much as I liked Velma x Shaggy when I was a kid, I am absolutely over the m o o n that we finally got confirmation that Velma is canonically gay

I could’ve used that kind of representation as a kid, (even if my parents probably would’ve banned the show in our house bc ooga booga gay people bad) but that wouldn’t have made it any less important just by it’s existence

I do kind of wish it could’ve been a more permanent character (maybe even bring back Marcie bc I adore Marcie), but we don’t know if Coco will be reoccurring just yet (unless she was actually the villain, but I haven’t watched the movie yet so I digress), but that’s honestly probably an entire other bridge to cross in probably not the near future just because it’s taken us t h i s long to get confirmation of what I think we all know

Also bonus note: I had no idea that Haley Kiyoko was Velma in the 2009 film series until just before writing this post, but my gods talk about dramatic irony lmao

🌻 - The best thing about the Christmas/holiday season is when they start selling peppermint candy canes again. Love those.

🌻 - Personal trauma aside, I think it should be legal to kill your rapist. No court case. Like you know what they did, and you know it's real, so why would you let a jury of people who wasn't even there (and wasn't raped) decide anything?

🌻 - Netflix's Cowboy Bebop live action was garbage. The only valid bits were Mustafa Shakir and John Cho and Daniella Pineda doing their best with the writing because so many scenes with them together were endearing, Jet and Spike's ambiguously gay relationship, and Faye Valentine being queer. That's literally it. Any person I see excusing the whitewashing and transphobia, I will block you on sight.

🌻 - I miss having new content for Jedistormpilot in Star Wars. I really miss it.

What are some of you top fandoms? (Love your blog btw)

Oh man. Of all time? Probably Miami Vice. I am such a noir fangirl, and Philip Michael Thomas was such a hottie in the 80s. Somebody started a Vice discord, which has sucked me back in a bit.

In terms of what I’m writing fic for and into right now?

I’m shipping Tang Fan/Sui Zhou/Wang Zhi super hard in The Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty.

I have this epic fic idea for The Untamed that would end up as Lan Sizhui/Jin Ling/Wen Ning, but I don’t know if I’m going to actually finish it. Wang Zhi and Wen Ning are among my top hottest characters. God. Would climb like a tree. (Sadly for me, my unerring inability to like popular things means I don’t find Lan Zhan hot at all.)

And I turned into BTS trash like a year ago. God, what don’t I ship there? (Okay, this is me, so the answer is the popular ships.) I’m very into rapline OT3 and somewhat the constituent pairings, JK/RM (thighs!), OT7, most individual OT3s, various stuff with Jin,... I’ll read anything horny about the Daechwita music video! Haha. (Yes, I vidded Wang Zhi to Agust D. Who is surprised?)

I’m on a c-drama kick, both the danmei adaptations and stuff that’s unintentionally full of hoyay like Ancient Detective. I’m thinking I’ll check out that Chinese onmyouji thing somebody was posting gifs from. Onmyouji was a big fandom of mine back in like 2006 or something. I’m feeling nostalgic for the beautiful manga. That art style!

(I am super weak for a lot of historical architecture and clothing from China, Korea, and Japan, so I tend to go for media that depicts that kind of thing. Heian period is probably my favorite, but I like a lot of things. I adored the Korean netflix show Kingdom, though I don’t do much about it fannishly.)

The tension between vampire sam and edgar is undeniable they should have left that scene in the movie

Right? I mean, I don’t think it was wholly intentional, but both the deleted scenes and the painfully short scene they left in the film, there is this feeling of unresolved tension.

The actual scene we‘re left with in The Tribe, though it’s over so fast it’s hard to feel much of anything, does have something of a playfully flirtatious vibe on Sam’s end. You wonder if this is how he addresses all his prey, or if this has been reserved for Edgar.

The deleted scenes are more gentle and bittersweet, but frustrating both in what they do give us and what they don’t. I mean, in every version of the scene, to my memory, Edgar mentions “something” happening between them, and because it’s never explain what “something” is, it’s left pretty open for interpretation. Whatever it is, it sounds pretty heavy.

I have not read the entire body of comics that preceeded the sequel films, but I have read part of the original series and the whole of Reign Of The Frogs. In this instance, what sticks out in my memory is that Edgar seemed the most bothered at the idea that Sam has a girlfriend. Alan talks idly about how hot the vamp chicks are, wondering if any of them are Sam’s new girlfriend, which seems to make Edgar angry (though this could just be due to the thought of Sam dating a vampire, than anything else). I’ve mentioned before, that in contrast to Sam and Alan, Edgar consistently shows a lack of interest in women and relationships, through the course of the whole TLB franchise. I can personally recall only one incident of his showing any interest, when a vamp chick pins him down, and he jokes about it not being as bad as he imagined.

At any rate, in regards to this “something”, it could be in relation to Sam, or Alan’s vampirism. Alan’s vampirism certainly was not Sam’s fault, and how Sam was turned is not mentioned at all in the comics. As far as Edgar knew, Sam had checked himself into an institution, still very much human. There is an implication in The Tribe, that Alan turned Sam, but Edgar did not know that until Sam showed him the bit marks on his neck. Considering they change their minds in The Thirst and have Alan as a half vampire, rather than a full one, that theory goes down the drain. So we don’t know how Sam was turned, if if Edgar was involved.

As I say, the tension between them was most likely not meant to be read as romantic, but considering the lack of any other explanation, that was how it ended up coming across. A broken friendship would definitely meant a hell of a lot to Edgar, so that was likely what he meant, but considering the LGBT themes of the original TLB, it’s the closest echo we get of that in the sequels.
