The Kingsglaive Bar and Dance club
Day 3: Alternate universe
Rating: Gen  No warning applies. Fluff, teasing, friendship, found family.
Relationship: Nyx/Pelna, Kingsglaive
Summary: Just a normal night at work in the Kingsglaive Bar and Dance club. Except that Crowe wants to figure out who gave Nyx that big hickey. Inspired by Daemon’s brewery au.
Nyx sauntered into the changing room with a grin. Crowe whistled as she spotted the hickey proudly displayed on his neck. “Had a fun evening, Nyx?” She asked teasingly. “Going to share details? Or do we have to guess?”
Nyx laughed as he opened his locker and started getting changed. “Sorry Crowe,” His eyes were shining with mirth. “I’m not saying a thing about last night.”
Crowe’s eyes narrowed, “That a challenge Hero?” Nyx said nothing. “Alright you cheeky bastard! I’m going to find out what happened last night.” She slung an arm around Nyx’ shoulders and wrestled him closer so she could get a better look at the mark. “Umm... Too small to be from Drautos.” She ignored the choking sounds from Luche and Tredd and let Nyx go with a scowl.
“I am going to figure it out Nyx.” She wagged her finger in his direction before twisting around to march out into the bar to start her shift. Nyx only laughed at both her declaration, and the red-faced looks on Luche.
---
“Was it Axel?” Crowe asked as she grabbed the drinks for one of her tables. She inspected Nyx for any sign of his thoughts.
Nyx shrugged, “Not saying anything.”
Crowe scowled and stomped away. She was going to find out who the Devil that had left with Nyx last night was.
---
“Can’t have been Tredd or Luche.” Crowe muttered to herself, still staring at Nyx as she munched on a snack. “Libs?” Nyx shrugged again, a grin plastered firmly on his face while he raised a hand to touch the swollen mark. A small goofy but genuine smile drifted across his expression at whatever memories the hickey reminded him of.
Crowe took a vicious bite from her taco and swore to find the person as quickly as possible. How else would she be able to read them the riot act about hurting Nyx?
----
The night was winding down as the bar send out the last call, the announcement cutting through the music from the dance club above it. There were still a good dozen or so dancers upstair and as many sitting down in the bar. Crowe went through her tables one last time, getting a few orders for Nyx and Libs to fill.
She’d spent most of her night trying to figure out who the mysterious guy who’d been dressed as a masked Devil for the costume party could have been. And yet Nyx didn’t show any reactions at any of the names she’d shot out.
And with the night winding down, Crowe found herself as mystified as she had been at the start of it. The only thing she could get from the way Nyx was acting was the knowledge that whoever it was, this wasn’t just a casual fling.
She’d even asked Libertus and the new kids, Noctis and Prompto, if they had any idea who might have shacked up with Nyx last night. None of them seemed to know anything, though she had her doubts about how truthful Libs was being, though Prompto had offered a Gladiolus Amicitia as a possible person.
Nyx had laughed at that as he’d handed her her orders.
---
Crowe finished counting her cash, putting the tips away into her wallet, and headed off to lock everything away.
And that’s when she saw it.
Nyx was standing outside talking with someone, laughing and with such a adoring look in his eyes that Crowe just knew this was the guy. She quickly put her stuff away and quietly moved closer, hoping to get a good look at Nyx’s mysterious lover.
She stepped out into the night just as the moon re-emerged from behind the clouds.
“Pelna?” She squeaked, surprised beyond her usual level-headedness at the sight of their quiet DJ half tangled with Nyx.
Nyx glanced over at her with a roll of his eyes then grabbed Pelna and dipped him into a steaming kiss. Crowe fled back into the bar and into Libertus’ roaring laughter.

Right in the heart of Downtown Toronto stands its most iconic landmark, the Canadian National Tower, or simply the CN Tower.
First-time visitors of Toronto will naturally have the infamous CN Tower at the very top of their itinerary. And that’s exactly what we did on our first sightseeing day in Toronto. Right after visiting the Toronto Islands and a quick lunch, we walked a couple of blocks from the Harbourfront Centre to the direction of the CN Tower. You can easily spot it within the plethora of buildings in Downtown Toronto. You can’t miss it.
CN Tower
Address: 301 Front St W, Toronto, ON M5V 2T6, Canada (Main Entrance: 290 Bremner Blvd) Operating Hours: 9:00 AM – 10:30 PM (open all year round except on Christmas day) How to get there: The easiest way to get to the CN Tower is by Subway (Union Station). From the station, walk west along Front Street to the direction of the tower. If you are traveling by car, there are plenty of parking garages in the area and the rates may vary (between C$15-25). For detailed instructions on how to get there, click here. Website: CN Tower/La Tour CN
See my Suggested Tours in Toronto at the end of this post.
CN Tower Tickets (as of Dec 2018)
General Admission This is the most basic type of ticket you can get which will give you access to two observation levels: the LookOut Level at 346 m (1,136 ft) and at the Glass Floor Level at 342 m (1,122 ft) that has access to the outdoor SkyTerrace.
Adult (13 – 64) – C$38 + tax Senior (+65) – C$34 + tax Child (4 – 12) – C$28 + tax
General Admission + Skypod Get access to the two observation levels: the LookOut and Glass Floor Level plus the Skypod, which is the highest observation level at 447 m (1,465 ft).
Adult (13 – 64) – C$53 + tax Senior (+65) – C$49 + tax Child (4 – 12) – C$43 + tax
In case you are already at the LookOut Level using you General Admission only ticket and you wanted to see the Skypod, just pay the additional C$15 (all ages) to gain access. Skypod tickets can be purchased at the Box Office or LookOut Level.
Sea The Sky Combo CN Tower + Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada for one great ticket price! You don’t even have to visit both attractions on the same day. This combo ticket is only available for online purchase and should give you General Admission access on both sites.
Adult (13 – 64) – C$58 + tax Senior (+65) – C$45 + tax Child (4 – 12) – C$37 + tax
There is also a Premier Experience type of ticket that should give you “Front-of-the-line” access to the tower but frankly, even if it’s peak season or the lines are incredibly long, paying C$125 for skip-the-line access is not worth it. Instead, visit the tower during the off-peak day and time to avoid the crowd.
We purchased the General Admission tickets and since it was already the off-peak season for visitors, the lines going up to the observation levels are non-existent.
The first CN Tower experience you’ll have is the ride going up. The high-speed elevator will take you to the LookOut Level in exactly 58 seconds! A staff will also give you a brief overview of the CN Tower and the elevator ride. Don’t forget to take a photo (and a video) as you go up the tower and of course, enjoy the amazing view!
Never leave the CN Tower without standing on the Glass Floor! It’s a thrilling experience for everyone, but most of all, for people like me who are afraid of heights. I (kinda) conquered my fear!
Just a few steps away from the Glass Floor are the doors that would lead you to the Outdoor SkyTerrace. With fantastic views of Toronto and a cool breeze, this is definitely an experience worth remembering!
Enjoying the view isn’t the only thing you can do at the CN Tower. you’re hungry, there are several food options inside the tower. There’s the Le Cafe located at the base of the tower for some coffee and light snacks, the Vue Bistros at the LookOut Level and of course, the 360 Restaurant for upscale dining while enjoying the panoramic views of the city.
Something that thrill-seekers look forward to at the CN Tower: the EdgeWalk. It’s an extreme attraction that I would probably never try in my life. But for those who like living on the edge, this is for you because you will literally walk on the edge at the top of the tower’s main pod. The experience costs C$225 + tax which should include keepsake photos and video, and of course, your very own Certificate of Achievement. It is not an easy task to accomplish after all!
Any visit to an attraction will be promptly followed by a visit to their gift shop. Let me just say, I love gift shops! Even with the many photos that I take during my travels, I still am a souvenir collector. The Tower’s Gift Shop is also considered as Toronto’s landmark because of the selection of Canadian merchandise that they offer and various gift items and souvenirs. Be sure to buy something from the gift shop as a keepsake of your trip!
Several popular tourist attractions are within steps of the CN Tower such as the Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, Steam Whistle Brewery, Railway Museum, and Roger Centre.
We originally planned on visiting the Ripley’s Aquarium first before heading to the CN Tower but they had a private event in the evening so they are closing earlier than usual. Because we did not want to rush ourselves between the two attractions, we decided to just go back the next day for the aquarium. We have yet to recover from our jetlag anyway and the couple of hours we spent in Toronto Islands were enough walking for the day.
Steam Whistle Brewery
Address: The Roundhouse 255 Bremner Blvd, Toronto, ON M5V 3M9 Operating Hours: Mon-Sat 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM/Sun 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM How to get there: It is located just across the Ripley’s Aquarium and CN Tower Website: Steam Whistle Brewing
Beer lovers will surely enjoy drinking Toronto’s very own Pilsner beer brewed at historic John St. Roundhouse. Tours are available every 30 minutes starting at 11:30 AM.
If craft brewery interests you (and drinking), you may want to check out this Toronto Beer Tour. Steam Whistle isn’t included in the tour but you’ll instead enjoy a 4-hour walking tour through Old Toronto while learning about the history of Canadian beer and of course, enjoy some beer and wine tastings.
Toronto Railway Museum
Address: Unit 15, The Roundhouse 255 Bremner Blvd, Toronto, ON M5V 3M9 Operating Hours: Schedule varies depending on the season. You can check it here. How to get there: Just beside the Steam Whistle Brewery Website: Toronto Railway Museum
Museum Admission: Adult (14-64) – C$5 Senior (65+) – C$3 Child (4-13) – C$3
Miniature Train Tickets: Adults (14+) – C$3.50 Children (Under 14) – C$2.50
Kids and adults alike will enjoy a walk through the various collections of passenger and freight cars, train structures, experience a train simulator, and a ride on the miniature train.
Rogers Centre
Address: One Blue Jays WayToronto, Ontario M5V 1J1 How to get there: It is located just a few steps away from the CN Tower and Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada Website: Rogers Centre
Home of the Toronto Blue Jays, the Rogers Centre is a must-see for any sports fan. It’s also the venue for some of the best and biggest concerts and shows in Toronto. Be sure to catch a glimpse of the SkyDome if you’re in the area.
These are just a few of the many things you can do in Downtown Toronto. Most of the popular sights are within walking distance so definitely if you have the time and energy, you’ll be able to explore more.

I love layovers..
You may ask “Why?” But when they are long enough, you can see a city (or even a country) on the way to your final destination. Which was just what we did with a 14 hour layover in Toronto, Canada on our way to our 10 hour layover in London, UK on the way to Greece last year. Yea, two long layovers, most would be pissed less than happy. For us, we actually requested it! Neither of us had every left the Toronto airport. So before we move away we need to see our own country!
Enter the red eye flight from Fort McMurray to Toronto. We got in nice and early (read 6am) and luckily our bags stayed checked all the way to Greece for us, with the exception of our carry ons. We had spent time reading up on how to make the most of our layover and found that you could get a cheap “Long Layover” type ticket on the UP Express (Union-Pearson Express) for $12 return per person. Get your tickets here or right before you board the train.  The train takes 25 minutes to make it from the airport all the way downtown to Union station, which is dead centre of Toronto and where all the action takes place. If you are in the airport, you just follow all of the signs that look like a train, you’ll go through some walkways over the road and up escalators, around corners.. just keep following or ask for directions. It was a bit confusing at first. Please take note: You must return in 7 hours to take advantage of the Long Layover ticket.
So, I was pretty foggy by this point, as I do not sleep well on planes. AT ALL. Not to mention the scare we had prior to even leaving Fort McMurray, where I had misplaced my phone. Yea, who can go traveling for almost 2 weeks without their phone. A $125 cab ride later, my phone had fallen out of my purse when our friend came to get us and was on the floor of our living room under the coffee table. Frantic search and possibly a photo radar ticket for my speeding cabby, I didn’t miss the flight and still got my last Caeser before leaving Canada.. Side note: Fort McMurray people.. take the town bus instead of a cab. It’s a bit longer, but it’s under 2 bucks. You can’t even make it out of the airport parking lot for $2. If you live uptown you are looking at $60+ ONE WAY!! I started parking my car close to the airport and then taking the bus anytime I was flying out. Think Greely Road School.
I digress, anyways.. the places we had to go..
The Hockey Hall of Fame – Website here
Because obviously.. any self-respecting hockey fan needs to go here. Now, we were tired, and it was a bit difficult to find, but I got to touch THE Stanley Cup. The real one.. there was a nice guard chilling with it. But realistically, nobody is leaving that place with that in your bag. It wont fit. Now to get into this place, don’t be like us and walk around outside, sit down inside and be confused as shit. Google map it.. then go inside and find the stairs/escalator to the basement level.. and walk all the way to the East side of the building. South East really.. there it is. And if you are like us, you were there when this place opened because you were in Toronto sooooooo early.
Here’s some pics… GO CANUCKS GO!

The Great One

The older stuff
Old rings from the Stanley Cup
It was pretty cool seeing all the stuff.. I was sad there wasn’t much Canucks stuff though. Although I did learn some interesting facts about the Stanley cup, like they have to take some of the rings/winners/names off because there isn’t enough space. So they straighten them out and they stay in the museum! Cool hey?
Next: We wanted to do the CN Tower.. but this was the type of day it was, so we decided not worth the time and money to look at… fog/clouds.
You can’t even see to the top. I went again a few months later when we were evacuation from the fire, sunny day. Much better, much more worth it.
Ripley’s Aquarium
Right beside the CN Tower, and a hop, skip and a jump away from Union Station is the Aquarium. Now Jamie dreams of being a Scuba Diver, and I love it as well. There is something so peaceful with seeing fish swimming. So we braved the school aged crowds of children and headed in. We could have spent hours upon hours here, standing on the moving sidewalk and just watching. You can get discount tickets on their website, and get set times to get in when it is really busy. With us, we were there on a random Thursday, so we took the chance and didn’t have to wait, but it was an extra $2-3 per person to not have bought the tickets previously online. They often have special events going on though, so it is best to check ahead if you are set on seeing sharks and nemos! Often can be booked for the evening for special parties too (put that on my bucket list), so best bet is to check their calendar of events here.
Here are some of my favorite pictures:
#gallery-0-14 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-14 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; } #gallery-0-14 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-14 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
And a nice relaxing video.. for good measure:
Our last stop before heading back to the airport and having some of the amazing food through the international gates?
Steam Whistle Brewing
This brewing company is just teeming with history. The building is unique, the steam whistle and it’s history is really cool to learn about, and there is nothing better than learning about beer and then getting a cold brew fresh off the line. I mean fresh.. like just capped and stolen by our tour guide. Tastes better!
The tour guide was hilarious and knowledgeable. You get a free beer (sometimes two) and they take you around and show you how this small time brewery made it big time. It gets loud, and it gets hot in some of the areas, but somebody gets to blow the whistle.. and there’s beer. Did I mention beer? For $10 bucks you are getting the tour and a beer.. totally worth it. Or you can check out the other packages by clicking here where you can get more beer, or even souvenir beer glasses.
Again, sometimes you can pre-book, but during the busy season and weekends it’s first come first serve. Seeing it was a thursday and midday, we just walked in and got a spot no problem. However, when we were there a month later and I was taking a friend, we walked in and had to book for one of the last ones of the day (they only had them late afternoon at that point). It is a quick little tour and it gets you all nice and warm and fuzzy for whatever else you feel like doing. For us, it made the trip back to the airport a little more bearable.
Obligatory pics of beer and beer making:
#gallery-0-15 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-15 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; } #gallery-0-15 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-15 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
That was all we chose to do this time around. We checked out the old Union Station, mainly because we got lost underground. We would have had time for more, but like I said, super tired from the red eye and not wanting to miss our flight to London, or have to pay extra if we weren’t back by the 7 hour UP Long Layover deadline. So we headed back early and went to “LEE Kitchen” which was through the international gates. Jamie was quite pumped about this, as was I, we watch a lot of food network and this guy is a legend. Susur Lee is on all the Top Chef, Masterchef, and Iron chef shows.. so to be eating some of his Dim Sum.. we were in heaven!
Anybody else had a good Toronto layover and make it out of the airport? Where did you go? What did you do? Tell us in the comments!
What to do with a day in Toronto I love layovers..  You may ask "Why?" But when they are long enough, you can see a city (or even a country) on the way to your final destination.

Coast Mountain Brewing, Coast Mountain Brewing, and Fuggles & Warlock win at this year's Whistler Village Beer Festival
Press Release
September 15, 2019, WHISTLER, BC – Whistler Village Beer Festival (WVBF) has wrapped seven craft beer fuelled days. A total of 4,400 beer lovers attended the WVBF Main Event on Saturday, September 14 and Sunday, September 15, and tasted over 120 beers and ciders, from 60 breweries. Breweries came as far away as Ontario (Steam Whistle Brewing), Quebec (Glutenberg), Novia Scotia (No Boats on Sunday), and California (Lagunitas Brewing Company).
“What a BLAST!” said Katrina Frew, Festival & Events Director of Gibbons Whistler, “Regardless of the weather people had a great time! We definitely upped our game this year with 7 days, 32 events, 4,400 attendees, 60 breweries, 120+ brews being poured, and so much more.”
Winning multiple awards at this year’s festival was Coast Mountain Brewing from Whistler, who not only took home the title of the Heavyweight Champ and Best in Fest, but also won this year’s Master Crafters: Haze Craze, presented by Grimm’s Fine Foods. Their delicious brews will be available on draught at The Longhorn Saloon and Firerock Lounge, and bottles will be available at Garibaldi Lift Co. Bar & Grill (GLC) starting October 2019 for a year. Best in Fest runner up, and winner of a draught line at Tapley’s Neighbourhood Pub and bottles at Merlin’s Bar & Grill, went to Backcountry Brewing, an owner-operated brewery from Squamish BC.
Third place went to Fuggles & Warlock, who have been keeping beer weird since 2012. They have won a draught line at Norman Rudy’s in Squamish, and bottles will be available at Dusty’s Bar & BBQ in Whistler. People’s Choice, presented by Preston Mobility, was too tight of a race to call at the end of the two-day Main Event and will be announced through WVBF’s social channels in the coming days.
WVBF extended to seven days for their seventh anniversary this year with 30 peripheral events, and two main events. Axes & Ales kicked off the festival on Monday, September 9. Craft beer lovers united to throw axes at Forged Axe Throwing and enjoy beer from Coast Mountain Brewery and Whistler Brewing Company. Craft Cultures: Sea, Land, Sky returned for it’s second year and was a resounding success, with 200 people filling the halls of the Audain Art Museum. This transformative evening celebrated the natural beauty of Sea, Land, and Sky, and featured mouth-watering bites from The Collective Kitchen, brews from Coast Mountain Brewing, Whistler Brewing Company, Hoyne Brewing, Red Racer Brewing, Gibbons Après Lager, and Northyards Cider, as well as live music from Shane Ray & Steph Lundy and DJ Stache. Paintertainment had three live art models, each representing an element, mingling amongst guests. The halls were decorated with décor supplied by Celebrate Events, Event Rental Works, and Canadian Wilderness Adventures.
The week continued with Sip & Stretch on Wednesday September 11th at the Westin Resort & Spa where $533 was raised for BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. 60+ attendees sipped on Gibbons Après Lager while doing yoga taught by Connor Eccles, from Lululemon Whistler. The Longhorn Saloon got hazy with Master Crafters: Haze Craze, presented by Grimm’s Fine Foods on Friday, September 13th, where eight breweries went head to head in a blind taste testing. Other events included Tap Takeovers at Stonesedge, Hunter Gather, Beacon Pub & Eatery, Pangea Pod Hotel, and the Brickworks Public house; Craft Beer Breaky at Stonesedge Kitchen; WVBF Bar Hop editions; and so much more!
The Gibbons team has already started planning for WVBF 2020 and looks forward to welcoming everyone back to Whistler next year. Early bird tickets for #WVBF2020 will be on sale soon. For more details about Whistler Village Beer Festival and a list of all the breweries in attendance click here.

Connor Kenway - Cry for Help
It's Friday, which means a new oneshot on my Ao3 and Wattpad accounts!!
I may as well post it here too, to reach a wider audience ;)
◇▪◇
Ah, Boston. A city of new beginnings and dreams, one rattled by war and revolution.
The rigid streets please you, they make it easier to navigate through the warrens of brick houses - unlike the winding streets of your hometown back in England. Still, you would much rather be in the comfort of your own home, rather than the unfamiliar harshness of this new world - never mind the fact there's a bloody war going on.
But what you want is never what you get, not since you had pledged yourself to the Creed. At first, you had enjoyed it, and had helped the British Brotherhood covertly operate beneath the Templars' radar. Eventually you'd grown bored of seeing the same faces every day, of repeating missions over and over, and running around in circles as the Templars thwart yet another of your plans.
Your mentor had seen this listlessness in you, and had sent you to respond to the letter sent by Colonial Mentor Achilles Davenport. Achilles' letter was vague, only asking for a helping hand to help him train his new student, and perhaps complete a few missions of the side. You supposed it was better than sitting around doing nothing, and so had accepted the mission with glee.
The trip across the Atlantic had been rough, and you had nearly kissed the ground upon arrival. Now all that's left is to find this Davenport Homestead, but you already know that wont be an easy task. It's not like you can just ask anyone  in the city, not with the Templars absolutely infesting the place - a reign that should end soon, with your help.
Sighing to yourself, you gnaw at the chunk of stale bread in your hand, and gaze out over Boston harbour from your perch on the roof of a house. Your eyes automatically flicker through the crowds, searching for any sign of an Assassin insignia, or even a Templar cross, all to no avail.
Seagulls soar over head, screaming as ships come and go, then you see him - a flash of white and blue in the crowds, hidden beneath a beaked hood. Finally!
The man lingers for a second on the street corner, the shadow of his hulking form reaching nearly across the whole street. Head tipped back, his eyes meet yours with a nod. Then he's gone.
Bastard.
Swearing, you get to your feet and attempt to follow him only to feel a huge hand clamp on your shoulder.
"Miss (Name)?" a voice asks, one belonging to the man who was down on the street, and who is now stood behind you. You have to admit, that's pretty impressive.
Slowly, you turn to face him, getting a good look at the part of his face visible beneath his hood.
"Master Achilles?" you ask, by way of response.
"No, the old man is back at the Homestead, I'm Ratohnhaké:ton," he doesn't smile, but lets go of your arm.
"Ratohnhaké:ton? A...lovely name, and yes, I am (Name)," you nod to him, feeling tiny compared to his huge form.
"What?" you add, noting his surprised expression.
"You are the first person who isn't a member of my village to pronounce my name correctly, most people just call me Connor," he smiles a little, a sight that sends your cheeks blushing,"Come on, I have some horses ready to take us back to the Homestead,"
Wordlessly, you follow the assassin through Boston and the Frontier, all the way to the Davenport Homestead.
-
The moon is soaring high by the time you arrive, and you nearly drop off your horse with fatigue. Luckily, a young lad runs out of the stable building to deal with your's and Connor's steeds, and you allow Connor to lead you into the brick house where Achilles no doubt waits for you.
"Old man! I'm back!" Connor calls out, finally tugging down his hood in the safety of the manor. The wall lanterns cast unflickering shadows on the wall, as floorboard creak upstairs. Impatiently, Connor stalks into one of the side rooms, leaving you to wait as Achilles shuffles down the stairs.
"Hello dear, let me have a look at you, and see who they sent to me," Achilles squints at you, prodding you with his walking stick, "Hm, not bad. I'm sure we can make good use of you here,"
"Thank you for having me, I was at my wit's end back there - nothing to do but chase dead ends. From what I read in your letter, things are more...interesting over here," you thank the old man, following him into the sitting room just off the hall.
As much as you want to crawl into bed and sleep for days, you know it's only polite to speak to your hosts for a bit - at least you're getting food, coming from the sounds of Connor clanking around in the kitchen.
"Yes yes, especially since young Connor here is the son of a certain Grand Master of the Templar order," Achilles chuckles, as if that little titbit is nought more than playground gossip. Releasing a whistle, you shift uneasily in your chair. I bet their family meetings are awkward.
Jerking back, you barely dodge the plate that flies in your direction, watching as it smashes on the window behind, leaving a smear of whatever stew was on it.
"Hey! That window was cleaned just yesterday!" Achilles snaps, glaring at the brute of an Assassin that stands in the doorway. Unsure of what to do, you lean further into your chair as you watch the argument unfold before you.
"First you claim I am incapable of fighting the Templars alone, then you send for help behind my back, and now you go around telling everyone about my father. What if I don't want people to know?" Connor practically snarls, already storming from the room.
"Young man get back here and clean that stew up! (Name) would have had to know eventually, and we are greatly outnumbered by our enemies, you will thank me for the help later," Achilles rises on shaky legs, resting heavily on his cane, leaving you to awkwardly sit in the winged chair by the pile of steaming stew.
"Why don't you get (Name) to do it, since you're so keen on making her help us," Connor is shouting now, his voice still loud even though he is at the top of the stairs.
Achilles doesn't deign to reply, and merely sits back down opposite you.
"I think it's safe to say that it's a delicate subject," Achilles explains, "He'll come round by tomorrow. Now, would you like more stew, or I can show you to your room?"
You decide to play it safe, and opt for going to your room, knowing you can't stay awake for much longer.
Once in your room, you strip down to your undergarments and tug out your spare clothes from the small bag slung over your shoulder. You dress yourself in them, and go to close the curtains, only to see Connor gazing out to sea from his seat on a rock. You find yourself watching him for some time, feeling a slight pang of pity for him.
Poor lad...his father is a Templar, and he may be forced to kill him one day. You are so distracted in your thoughts that you don't notice him turning back to the house, stopping when he sees you staring. He cocks his head to the side a little, watching you as you watch him, a tiny grin forming on his lips.
Smiling back, you quietly close the curtains and crawl into your narrow bed, falling asleep almost instantly.
Tomorrow you would begin your work, helping Connor and Achilles to defeat the Templars of the Colonial Rite. But that's tomorrow, tonight - you sleep.
---
When Achilles had told you that your fellow assassin is the son of Grand Master Haytham Kenway, you had imagined that they were not on speaking terms. Because, you know...being on opposite sides of a bloody war is certainly cause for animosity between relations.
But when you arrived in New York after a day's rest at Davenport, you had not expected to be greeted by the Grand Master himself - even is it is a cold reception.
"Evening Connor, I see you've made it in one piece," Haytham sneers, regarding you coldly, "And I see you have brought company,"
You too stare at the Grand Master curiously, not entirely sure on how to act. God damn Connor, he's working with the enemy! You should be slitting Kenway's throat now with your blade rather than chatting him up in a damp alleyway.
"Recovered from your beating, then?" Connor snaps back, already impatient with the man. Sucking in a breath, you tense yourself for Haytham's reaction: whatever relationship these two have...it's an odd one.
Haytham scoffs at his son's words, and continues to ignore you. Not that you mind, to tell the trust, you don't think you'll be able to keep your words civil if the opportunity arose.
"Benjamin Church is holed up in a brewery on the waterfront, we should be done with this by sunrise," he explains, indicating his hand in the direction of the waterfront.
That's enough information for you, and you are already climbing up the side of the shop you have gathered outside. Once up there, you linger, waiting for Connor and Haytham to join you.
"Good, I would like to have those supplies returned as soon as possible," Connor turns to join you on the roof, shooting a small grimace to you as he starts his climb.
You can't help but feel a little stutter in your heart as you consume the way he looks at you, at the dark glint in his eye that promises violence - not towards you, of course.
"I would't want to keep you waiting from your lost cause," Haytham mutters under his breath, once he reaches the roof too. Had Connor not been there keeping it civil, you're sure you would have gutted that Templar there and then.
Deciding to ignore Haytham as much as he ignores you, you take off at a run across the rooftops, only sparing a glance behind you once - which was only to see Connor deep in conversation with his father. As a result, you arrived at the brewery much quicker than your counterparts, and remained lingering on the roof around the corner. You allow them a few minutes to converse again, before you drop down into the alley beside them.
"I will find a guard who is off duty, and take his uniform," Connor watches as you drop down beside him, "(Name), you should try to find a disguise too, they wont just let anyone in there,"
"Very well, I will wait here then," Haytham sniffs, looking non too pleased to be left behind with you.
"Of course you will," Connor snaps, glaring as his father sits down on a bench.
"Oh I'm sorry! Would you like me to come along and hold your hand perhaps? Provide kind words of encouragement?" Haytham jests, shaking his head as Connor glares back.
With that, he's gone, leaving you to deal with Haytham. Sighing, you reach upto your hair, pulling it from its' tie to loosen it. Once your (h/c) hair is loose and flowing, you move onto your robes, tugging at the clever slits in the side that pull down a small skirt for you to wear. It's quite clever really, you'd stitched it up yourself one night a few years ago, and it allows for you to pass as an ordinary lady when times are dire - like now.
You turn back around, to find Haytham staring at you with interest.
"Never seen a woman before, Kenway?" you spit out before you can stop yourself. God...your mentor would be stringing you up now if he could see you...he would want you to flay Haytham where he stands just for being a Templar. But Connor wants to work with him, for some forsaken reason, so you will comply.
"I was merely wondering why he chose to bring you along, I don't see how you will help this mission," Haytham flicks some imaginary dust from his trousers, as you stand over him, arms folded, "It's unusual of Connor to cry for the help of others,"
"It was not Connor who called," you mutter, your conversation interrupted by Connor's return.
Haytham looks his son up and down, checking his stolen uniform will pass inspection. You have to admit, he looks mighty fine in that suit, especially with that tricorn on his head. Oh to see him with just that on...
Wait. No. Stop that.
During your musings you had failed to notice Connor was too, staring back at you.
"You look...beautiful," he whispers, ignoring the look Haytham gives him.
Rolling his eyes, Haytham leaves you blushing with his son and stalks off to the brewery entrance, beckoning for you to follow. It's only as you approach the gate that you realise: you do not know what part you are to play. You decide to take a punt, and quickly loop your arm around Connor's, hoping Haytham cottons onto your idea.
"The Father of Understanding guides us," Haytham chants to the guard at the door, who meets him with a nod. You and Connor however, he looks the both of you up and down questioningly.
"You I recognise, not the savage, or the tart," the guard snarls, his voice gruff and lazy.
You flush furiously with anger at the insult. Tart? Tart? What a bastard.
"He is my son, and-" Haytham's explanation is cut off by Connor clearing his throat violently.
"And the tart is my...wife," he yells, already at his wits end. You have to admit, in the few days you'd known Connor you had grown to see him as naive and sweet, if not a little headstrong. You hadn't thought he'd work out your plan when you grabbed his arm.
"Tasted of the forest fruits, have you? Off you go then," the guard steps aside, ignoring Connor's outburst.
Once Haytham is through, the guard shoves his rifle in front of you, stopping you and Connor from entering.
"How do I know this savage isn't kidnapping you? Wouldn't you rather cosy up with me, eh, love?" the guard leers, and you watch as Haytham sighs in exasperation behind him.
"I can assure you, kind sir, that we are very happy together," you reply, allowing Connor to tighten a protective arm around you. If you had your way, the man would be bleeding out right now on the floor for A: insulting both you and Connor, and B: questioning your ruse when the bloody Grandmaster is backing it up.
The guard merely raises one brow, in a look that you translate as 'prove it.'
Glaring at the guard, you think of what could prove to him that you and Connor are married, after all, you don't have a ring or anything to show him. You hesitate for a second, before you think 'well...fuck it', and plant a huge kiss on Connor's lips.
He stiffens for a second, before he relaxes and kisses you back.
Oh lord. You could stand there for hours, just kissing him. But a laugh from the foul faced guard pulls you back to your senses.
"Alrighty then, enough now, I get it," the guard chuckles, letting you past.
Haytham merely regards the two of you with a raised brow, before leading the two of you to continue the mission.
-
A week passed, an not a mention is made of the kiss. But interacting with Connor was growing increasingly difficult, especially with the growing feelings and thoughts in your head. Hell, even Achilles has noticed the change in atmosphere, and is always pushing for the two of you to speak.
Mostly you stick to solo missions, liberating the people of Boston and New York on behalf of Connor whilst he gallivants about with his father. For once, though, the both of you are at home, and it looks as if you'll both be there for a few days, with nothing to do.
You're hunting down by the Aquila when one of the homesteaders approaches you, Myriam.
"There you are, Achilles is looking for you," she waves over at you, pointing back towards the manor house.
"What for?" you ask, knowing you've already chopped the firewood for him today.
Myriam shrugs her shoulders,"He didn't say, just that it's urgent,"
Confused, you finish skinning the fox you've felled and follow Myriam up to the manor, where Achilles waits for you in the doorway.
"Ah, (Name) come inside," Achilles pulls you inside, ushering you into the dining room, where a table is laid out with roast turkey and candles to boot - and Connor.
"I think it's about time you two spoke to each other properly," Achilles pushes you onto the chair opposite Connor, who looks equally as surprised as you,"It is obvious that you two harbour feeling for each other, so I'd suggest you both confessed,"
Achilles tiptoes out of the room, gently closing the door behind him. Frowning a little, Connor looks at the spread of food in front of him. "I had nothing to do with this, Achilles sent someone to bring me here, I guess he did the same to you," he breathes, not quite catching your eyes. "Connor..." you begin, readying yourself to talk. Achilles is right, there is something between you two, and letting it wither and die is not a good idea. You may as well take the plunge. However, Connor beats you to your proclamation of love.
"(Name), it is true that my heart harbours warm feelings for you. I had not thought Achilles had noticed, nor that you would reciprocate them," he begins, his voice trembling slightly with the rush of emotion that courses through him,"Since we are here, would you do me the honour of....allowing me to kiss you?"
You grin at Connor from across the table, his cuteness is just too much. "I do believe we have already kissed," you muse, harking back to your brewery entry,"And I remember it being the best kiss I have ever had," You practically leap over the table, nearly knocking over the candle in the process, to reach Connor. His lips are silken and smooth against yours, his touch feather light yet carrying that possessive firmness of a trained warrior. As you two unite, you feel his eyelashes flutter against your cheeks. Dinner is forgotten as you melt into the kiss, your lips molding against his in a way that makes you think you were made for each other. Hands roam wherever they can reach, and the two of you pull apart for only a second.
That look...that goddamned look in his eye, feral and laden with lust and love for you. Without a word the two of you abandon the food, and you allow Connor to tug you upstairs to that you presume to be his room. Half a thought is spares for poor Achilles, who no doubt will be deprived of sleep tonight, but that thought is whisked away when Connor's hands find your sensitive areas and you struggle to keep your eyes open at the contact.
God, the week of no contact was worth it for this.

Steam Whistle Beer
Location: Steam Whistle Brewery
Price: I’m at a fancy wedding. Free
I don’t usually like alcohol, but this actually isn’t that bad. It’s got some. Malt? I don’t know what goes on bread. Kind of taste the undertones of something biscuity. Is that the yeast? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ???? The brewer asked me what I wanted and I’m like, brewer’s choice, I know nothing, give me whatever you think is best, fuck me up, and this is what he produced. A good starter drink for an amateur, really, I’m impressed.

Steam Whistle, Pierre Poilievre, and toxic partisanship
Steam Whistle, Pierre Poilievre, and toxic partisanship
The Steam Whistle brewery in Toronto is not a politics-free zone. Back in 2013, a guy named Justin Trudeau held one of his final big social events there before he became Liberal leader. A decade earlier, Conservative leadership candidate Peter MacKay held an event for his supporters at Steam Whistle too. In 2014, new Liberal MP Adam Vaughan celebrated his byelection victory at the brewery — with…
