...I was beginning to think that hey, maybe I was too harsh on insti and maybe the whole 'hindi hegemony' thing wasn't that bad. because you know, absence makes the heart fonder or whatever.
well nevermind, I was absolutely justified because WHY would the convocation form need my name written in both English and Hindi otherwise. ._.
(also the hindi script writer thingy on the uni website, predictably, sucks. so that's fun too.)
#hindi isn't my language‚ nor is it that language of the state my uni is in‚ and the official medium of instruction is english#hindi should have ZERO impact on my forms#but nOOOO they need it in hindi#aaaah who am i kidding my uni even has an official hindi name and whole dept to translate stuff into hindi#*a whole dept just to translate#but my bigger gripes were always about the hegemonical power hindi held in student communities#tbh my hindi has atrophied since school so i'm pretty sure i wouldn't get the spelling of my name right#but annoyingly enough i DO have the right spelling because i needed it when i was applying to some other uni the other day#and asked a friend to help me out#WHAT is it with national institutes and this hindi imposition ://#i mean i know what‚ but it still sucks#BUT on a more lighthearted note my graduation ceremony is coming closer aaaaaaah#i'll get to visit campus one last time as a student#man i miss that place after all#second-year-me always figured i'd leave with no love lost for that place#but i'm glad things got better even if it means i'll probably sigh wistfully about that place for the rest of my life#insti my beloved#placeholder tag#hey if i graduate maybe i'll finally stop ranting about hindi so much! i swear i was never so vitriolic about the language until uni#and if my plans work out and i get into the place i wanna go next#well i won't have any right to grumble so much since hindi will be the local language of the city and therefore justifiably common#see? i can be reasonable#i have no issues with the language when it's in a hindi-speaking region#...but no promises#maybe i should start making these private because it feels kinda rude to thrust this on someone's dash tho#okay thrust is a terrible word#like 'moist'#or maybe i'm just saying that because rqg ruined them both for me#OKAY stopping now before i go off on another tangent

Dear Indians, if you are wounded by a knife, you aren't supposed to stab yourself a second time to heal the first gash. You should be treating the wound not hurting yourself more.
Just because you have been colonised by the British in the past and have been anglicised, doesn't mean you should let yourself get culturally colonised for a second time by the Hindustanis (and by that I mean north India, especially the Hindi-belt). Let Hindi remain where it belongs, let the North Indians take pride in it. Stick to your native tongue and traditions, even the wounds of the first attack will be healed. But if you keep wounding your culture with non-indigenous influences, you will be crippled beyond rescue. Only God can save you then.
We might be free politically but our minds are still those of colonised people. If we are to be truly independent, truly free, we must take pride in our native identities. We need a new freedom struggle, freedom from the shackles of our own inferiority complexes.

Explained | Hindi Language, AR Rahman & Official Language Act
Language is the new hot topic in town; and politicians, celebrities and twitterati are going berserk about the issue. When the Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah stated that people from different states should speak Hindi with each other and that Hindi should be accepted as an alternative to English, it took little time for it to spiral into a controversy. Tumblr media
To ramp up the case detection efforts Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said there will be a house to house search for individuals who have symptoms of COVID-19 during the imposition of ECQ in the NCR Plus Bubble.
In a press briefing on Saturday, Roque said President Rodrigo Duterte approved the IATF’s resolution reverting Metro Manila, and adjacent provinces Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite and Rizal under Enhanced Community Quarantine or ECQ from March 29 to April 4, 2021.
Roque said government will establish a Dharavi-like centers at the community that will look after suspect cases, test, contact trace and isolate them.
Under the IATF resolution 95 percent of close contacts must be traced and isolated within 24 hours of case notification.
“Magbabahay-bahay po tayo na maghahanap ng mga taong may sintomas” he said.
“Sisiguraduhin din po natin na ang mga lokal na pamahallan ay mag-iisolate hindi lang ng positobo kung hindi pati mga suspect at close contact,” he added.
Roque furthered that the government will also procure 500,000 antigen test kits to test more individuals.
Roque added that Department of Health and local government units will do the house to house look for patients with symptoms of the disease in areas under granular lockdown.
“Ito po ay gagamitin lalo na sa CODE, lalo na po sa paghahanap ng mga taong may sintomas,” he furthered.
The palace spokesperson said the government will implement PDITR (Prevent, Detect, Isolate, Treat, Reassess) actions to stop the surge of COVID-19.
Intensified curfews will be implemented in ECQ areas from 6 pm to 5 am.
More military personnel will be deployed during the implementation of strict community quarantine.
Meanwhile, public transportation will be allowed to operate but on limited capacity. Roque added that this will be determined by the Department of Transportation.

I am not shocked about your insensitivity towards your fellow Indians from the NE. I expect nothing better from someone identifying as a Hindi-speaker despite being a Punjabi-Kashmiri herself. Obviously you know nothing of the pain of linguistic and cultural imposition that the NE has been facing for decades. Stop using Assam in your tags. And don't you dare dictate what is 'morally flawed'. Your 'tribal rights activism' does nothing to mask the xenophobe that you are. Out with your Janus face!
I am really sorry you feel this way. But you are the one who is hiding behind anonymity. My "Janus" face is right here for all to see. In none of my posts have I defended the linguistic and cultural impositions that have been forced on the Northeast. In none of my posts have I defended the casual and institutionalized racism faced by Northeast Indians in the rest of the country.
All I have said is that while I understand the concern of being overrun by migrants, our more immediate, pressing concern should be the deportation/detention threat they are facing right now. And where have I said that the migrants must be resettled in the Northeast? Where have I said that the migrants should not be offered a place in the other states of India. You are confusing matters for no reason. And the reason I singled out Assam is because the NRC has happened only in Assam so far. It was applied to Assam because the people of Assam said nothing when the NRC was carried out over a period of 5+ years. In fact, plenty of people welcomed it in the hopes that it would disenfranchise migrants.
While the protests in the rest of the country are against both, the CAA and the NRC, the Northeast is in uproar only against the CAA. And these are not my observations. These are things your politicians and student leaders have said on record. I have no desire to create an us vs. them divide with regards to the Northeast and the rest of the country. But how am I xenophobic when all I am saying is that human beings should not be detained in concentration camps ?

Why is Hindi so important?
Why is Hindi so important?
India is a diverse country with many cultures
Encompassing 23 languages
Hindi may be the most spoken language
But let there be no misconception, for a better future
That Hindi is the national language
Or that all South Indians are ‘Madrassis’
The Constitution of India has no national language
However, ignorance is bliss
As seen with even some senior Ministers
Conveniently serving as a tool to…

RIP Kalaignar
It was Karunanidhi who stopped forced imposition of Hindi on non-Hindi speaking states. If not for him and Tamilians, South India would largely be a colony of Delhi. RIP Kalaignar Karunanidhi. And do not pray for his soul; being a towering atheist himself, he sure wouldn't care.He is no more but being an artist himself who wrote extensively, his thoughts and ideas will remain for long. Which reminds me of this fierce quote from another Tamil stalwart, God does not exist at all. The inventor of God is a fool. The propagator of God is a scoundrel. The worshipper of God is a barbarian.- EV Ramaswami 'Periyar'

Palace rejects plan to ban entry of OFWs from UK
#PHnews: Palace rejects plan to ban entry of OFWs from UK
MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday thumbed down the proposal of Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III to disallow the repatriation of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from the United Kingdom (UK) to the Philippines.
In a meeting with Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) and experts on Saturday night, Duterte said he could not stop OFWs from returning to the country, should they wish to come home following the discovery of the new strain of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the UK.
Duterte issued the statement in response to Bello’s proposal to include OFWs in the list of individuals from the Western state who are prohibited from entering the Philippines.
“So whether or not they would eventually come home, we cannot escape that. I abhor the idea of ‘yung hindi mo pauwiin (not allowing them to return home),” Duterte said.
Bello, during the meeting, said his proposal was meant to prevent the possible spread of new Covid-19 strain in the Philippines.
He noted that there was a possibility that OFWs who will go back to the country might be “contaminated” by the new variant of the virus.
Duterte, however, said OFWs who will yield a negative result of Covid-19 test may return to the Philippines.
He added that repatriated OFWs need to undergo quarantine upon their arrival in the country.
“I would not agree with the idea of disallowing Filipinos to come home. Mahirap iyan (That’s a difficult thing to do) unless we can prove that he is contaminated,” he said.
At the same meeting, Duterte approved the proposal to extend for another two weeks the imposition of travel ban imposed on the UK which was set to lapse on December 31.
Cargoes and baggages
Meantime, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade proposed to withhold the release of cargoes and baggages of travelers until the conclusion of their mandatory quarantine.
Duterte viewed Tugade’s suggestion as a “good plan.”
“Prohibit them from carrying the cargoes. But that is an added burden to sa inyo (you),” he said.
However, Dr. Marissa Alejandria of the Philippine Society of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, said it is “unnecessary to quarantine” cargoes and baggages.
“With all due respect po, we don't need to quarantine din po 'yung baggage and cargo. The usual standard disinfection procedures would suffice whether there's a mutation or not kasi ang transmission pa rin po (because the transmission), the main driver of transmission is respiratory droplet,” Alejandria said. New challenges to Dravidian politics in TN : The Tribune India
Tumblr media
Radhika Ramaseshan
Senior Journalist
For 53 years, Tamil Nadu politics moved in a circle across the twin offspring of the Dravidian ideology and worldview, birthed by Periyar EV Ramasamy and fine-tuned by CN Annadurai to suit into the exigencies of statecraft, an important factor of which entailed straightening out the state’s troubled relations with a Congress-ruled Centre. The 2 poles are the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). Squeezed between the ends of a warring spectrum had been offshoots of one of many Kazhagams or caste-based entities that aligned with the DMK or the AIADMK to discover a place underneath the solar.
The Meeting elections in April-Might 2021 will see the play of recent parts and personas. The polls can be fought with out the larger-than-life presence of M Karunanidhi (DMK) and J Jayalalithaa (AIADMK), who had the voters in thrall for many years. Their events are bereft of leaders who can remotely match their charisma, oratory and mass enchantment. The DMK, which began as a cadre-driven get together, is lowered to a dynastic entity dominated by a household whose principal members are at loggerheads. MK Stalin is the anointed inheritor to Karunanidhi’s legacy, however his older brother, MK Alagiri, is estranged from him. Alagiri cultivated a base in southern Tamil Nadu that can not be scoffed at. Their half-sister and Thoothukuddi MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi nurses her personal ambitions, though her remit lies in Delhi.
Nonetheless, Stalin, who earned his spurs by sweeping the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, managed to maintain intact the ‘secular’ alliance he stitched within the run-up. The DMK-spearheaded coalition consists of the Congress, the Left events, the Indian Union Muslim League and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), previously often called the Dalit Panthers’ Get together. The VCK got here into being to hunt a distinct segment for the under-empowered Dalits in a polity dominated by the ‘muscular’ backward castes.
Pitted towards this rainbow formation is the AIADMK that floundered for path and stability after Jayalalithaa handed away. Nearer to the elections, there are indicators that underneath Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami and his deputy O Panneerselvam, the AIADMK may regular itself, however at a political value. In November-end, after Amit Shah, Union Residence Minister, visited Chennai ostensibly to survey the pre-poll scene, the AIADMK declared it’ll have an alliance with the BJP.
The BJP, that secured simply 2.8 per cent votes within the 2016 elections and scored a duck, turned seen and even wanted, following Shah’s journey. The AIADMK blew scorching in direction of the BJP earlier when the BJP introduced its plan to launch Vetrivel Yatra in Tamil Nadu with non secular overtones. Its quest for regional symbols and icons took the BJP in direction of the calendar picture of Lord Murugan, a subaltern deity who’s honored as an antipodal to the non secular icons worshipped within the north. The BJP proposed to boost the battle cry ‘Vetrivel Veeravel’ (victorious vel, the spear Murugan carries) within the yatra. It was stopped by the AIADMK authorities for being probably ‘inflammatory’. What then compelled the AIADMK, which regarded the BJP as a communal and electoral baggage, to hunt out its hand?
The Dravidian events started because the forebears of federalism, utilizing symbols such because the Hindi imposition and Brahmin dominance to bolster their resistance to the Centre’s sway over Tamil Nadu. A long time later, the AIADMK leaders imagine that aligning with the BJP is the one strategy to hold their get together from fragmenting. That’s not the one motive. VK Sasikala, Jayalalithaa’s confidante who’s in jail, is anticipated to be launched in January 2021. The AIADMK is afraid that if a celebration she might kind along with her nephew TTV Dinakaran turns into a actuality, it may very well be in bother as a result of it could make a play for a similar votes. Due to this fact, it believed it ought to lean on the BJP and use its political guile to maintain the Sasikala-Dinakaran duo at bay. The prospects of the BJP teaming with the but non-aligned events such because the DMDK, PMK and the Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) was one thing the AIADMK didn’t relish. If a partnership with the BJP meant extracting big-ticket initiatives from the Centre, nothing prefer it for the AIADMK that should buck anti-incumbency.
This pastiche of acronyms and gamers was enlivened by the entry of a phenomenon: actor Rajinikanth or ‘Thalaivar’ (supremo). Enigmatic at the perfect of occasions, Rajinikanth strung alongside his followers and cheerleaders for years over his political plans. He lastly proclaimed he’ll launch a celebration whose identify and image can be unveiled in the course of the auspicious Pongal competition in January. Given Rajinikanth’s temper swings, he may change his thoughts once more, however the BJP will guarantee he is not going to.
The BJP, adept as a expertise scout, has not recognized a frontrunner of its personal in Tamil Nadu. It had a scattering of MPs and MLAs up to now in alliance with the AIADMK however has little to point out for itself independently. Rajinikanth appears to be the talisman the BJP waited for. S Gurumurthy, the Chennai-based chartered accountant who was an adviser to the RSS’s Swadeshi Jagran Manch, labored from behind the scenes and shortly positioned Arjuna Murthy, who helmed the Tamil Nadu BJP’s mental cell, because the actor’s ‘chief coordinator’.
Rajinikanth spoke a language that the BJP thought might ring a bell with voters fed up with the ‘corrupt’ and ‘family-centred’ Dravidian events. The phrases he selected had been ‘religious politics’, ‘honesty’ and ‘freedom from corruption’. Would a ‘religious’ stream click on in a state that rejected theism in politics up to now and most well-liked to pursue faith in personal and temple areas, away from electioneering?
Likely, Tamil Nadu politics was anchored in filmdom because the epic successes of MG Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa proved. Currently, nonetheless, stars like Captain Vijayakanth, Vijay and Kamal Haasan scarcely made an affect. Maybe cinema could now not guarantee a protected passage to politics. Rajinikanth may very well be the last word check.

When protectors turned attackers
What happened to Rameswaram fishermen by ICG actually?
Recently, came over with lots of memes and messages, went viral on social media, got my attention. As a normal person, this incident affected me mentally, made to write this post and give a gist on what happened actually? The message stated claiming, ICG (Indian Coast Guard) attacked TN fishermen, but why this happened? Let’s probe into this in more detail.
Why they attacked?
Fishermen contempting to fish in Palk Bay (image below) on Nov 13, crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL), dreading the aggression of the Sri Lankan navy by risking their lives. They didn’t hide the fact that, they crossed the border and do fishing. 30 trawlers in 15 pairs, forayed into Sri Lankan waters for ‘pair trawling’ the destructive fishing method banned in both India and Sri Lanka. Fishermen were chased by the Sri Lankan navy and successfully crossed the IMBL, back to Indian waters to get help from patrol vessel. Now it’s time for ICG to play. To their disappointment, ICG instead to give hands, they further expelled on fishermen. They would be fined Rs.30,000 each if they get arrested by ICG for pair trawling and crossing the border. Treating them like terrorist, they shot sample fire to stop them, which was highly condemnable. On reaching out, they further beat them with Iron rods and asked them to speak Hindi, claimed fishermen. The fishermen said, if ICG
Tumblr media
If ICG has admitted that they fired warning shots, we would have not spread this, said fishermen.
What ICG says?
ICG called fishermen leader P Sesu Raja and clarified they never intended to hurt them and regretted their act for firing. Since fishermen do not want to stand up against ICG, they decided to cooperate with them as they would be their protector in any means. The ICG should be sympathetic to fishermen who are risking their lives daily for daily needs.
Alternative methods
Deep sea fishing is an alternative method to pair trawling. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced a scheme and fishermen are willing to switch over Deep sea fishing so that fishermen could get into deeper ocean and get several species said fishermen leader N. J. Bose. Trawling was the method used by TN fishermen and later adapted in Sri Lanka too to maximize their profits before.
Concluding with my view
Firstly, Whatever the problem may be, aren’t they terrorist to fire to stop them? Our Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the bullets fired were not from ICG and we are investigating this on further. No comments on this, let report says.
Secondly, Is there any reason to speak Hindi? asked by ICG to fishermen. How this Hindi imposition went deeper. Simply can’t deny the fact that fishermen lied, no reason for them to do as well.
Fishing in Palk Bay is the traditional method earlier for fishermen and govt. failed to assert this right and to this, Deep sea fishing was introduced as an alternate method. Will every fishermen would get access to boat and get benefited from this scheme? We already know how every plan reach peoples. I would be happy that at least some get benefited and sad that how many going to have effect on this.
