September- Working for Adriatic Marine
I returned from Mexico late on August 30 and thank god I had work waiting for me. I had to rush around to get caught up and ready to leave for work on the 1st of September. That only gave me 1 day to get everything done that I could.  Most important was to get a doctors appointment. Urgent need for that. Since I am a merchant marine, I must apply for a license to work from the United States…

A floating hardware store, May 26, 1922. It was one of a fleet of floating marine stores operating in and around New York Harbor, selling marine merchandise to fishermen. Anything from a fishhook to an anchor could be obtained on board.

Today in Great Lakes shipping history. July 9th.
1917: The bulk carrier WILLIAM S. MACK collided with the passenger freighter MANITOBA in fog off Whitefish Point and had to be beached. It was subsequently refloated and repaired. The ship was renamed HOME SMITH on October 10, 1917, and last sailed as ALGORAIL (i) in 1963 before being scrapped at Toronto. Photos are the 3 different names for the same ship. 1917-1963. Mack, Home Smith and Algorail.

i don't really participate in mermay but my imagination ran away with me in this au while i was doodling AND i've got some great enablers on discord lol so have a mermaid au for robin and julian 😂
...robin, an avid surfer, encounters a very large, very friendly (and perhaps overly curious, as she quickly notices his scars) shark merman after her surfboard leash breaks and gets dragged under the water by a rough wave...the merman, julian, likes watching humans and he's taken an interest in robin, of course 😌✨

There is some pretty shocking footage out there of the Baltimore bridge collapse early this morning. I've already seen some incredibly wrong, incredibly insensitive Hot Takes about how shitty the bridge was to have fallen after being bonked by a boat, etc
Please don't be that person.
The facts will come out. Speculation is silly. In addition to loss of life, the Francis Scott Key bridge was a major arterial in that region's highway system. Its loss will be felt for years, and not just to daily commuters.
Baltimore harbor is closed. No shipping at all. This will impact supply chains in ways we cannot even assess yet.
It's pretty fucked up.
