Time loops. Repeating cycles. Time is a flat circle.

Here’s why I think Loki S2 is repeating the same episode structure as S1.

Let's go through the similarities between S1E1/S2E1 and S1E2/S2E2.

In episode 1, we have:

S1. Loki runs away from the Avengers

S2. Loki runs away from a Mobius who doesn't know him

S1. Loki meets Casey (at reception after appearing through a Time Door)

S2. Loki meets Casey (in a bay after coming through a large rectangular window)

S1. Mobius is investigating in France, 1549, when an agent comes and tells him Loki has appeared

S2. Mobius is looking at the timelines branch on the chronomonitor when Casey comes and tells him Loki has appeared

S1. Loki makes his way through TVA processing

S2. Loki makes his way through the TVA to reach Mobius, timeslipping as he goes

S1. Loki learns about the TVA through a recording (Miss Minutes)

S2. Loki learns about Kang and Ravonna’s relationship through a recording (a tape)

S1. Loki attends court, Mobius appears and interrupts proceedings

S2. B-15 and Mobius attends the war room (and have to give evidence like a court case), Loki appears and interrupts proceedings

S1. Mobius leads a suspicious Loki away from the courtroom

S2. Mobius leads a distressed Loki away from the war room

S1. Mobius reveals the truth of his life to Loki

S2. Loki reveals the truth of Kang and impeding war to Mobius/everyone else

S1. We see Loki affect human history by being D.B. Cooper

S2. We see Loki affect O.B’s history by talking to him in the past

S1. Loki faces the prospect of his own death (by watching the time theatre screen)

S2. Mobius and Loki face the prospect of their own deaths

S1. Loki runs through the TVA looking for the Tesseract

S2. Loki runs through the TVA looking for a Timestick

S1. Loki is distressed he can’t return to his life on the timeline

S2. Loki is distressed Mobius will die and he will be lost to time

S1. B-15 attempts to prune Loki (and prunes a cart instead) and Loki returns to time theatre

S2. Someone prunes Loki and Loki returns to present Mobius

S1. Mobius asks Loki to help find Sylvie

S2. Loki tells Mobius they need to find Sylvie

S1. We see a glimpse of Sylvie in Salina, 1858

S2. We see a glimpse of Sylvie at McDonald’s, 1982 (branched timeline)

In episode 2, we have:

S1. A hunter (C-20) goes missing

S2. A hunter (X-5) goes missing

S1. Loki and Mobius go to a ren faire

S2. Loki and Mobius go to a movie premiere

S1. B-15 points out the “variant” sign on Loki’s jacket

S2. Loki points out the collar on X-5/Brad’s neck

S1. Loki and Mobius work together to find out where Sylvie is

S2. Loki and Mobius work together to find out where Sylvie is

S1. Loki attempts to lie to B-15 and Mobius

S2. Loki attempts to lie to X-5/Brad

S1. Mobius sets Loki with a task (to find where Sylvie is from reading reports) and Loki succeeds

S2. Mobius sets Loki with a task (to find where Sylvie is by interrogating Brad) and Loki succeeds

S1. Loki and Mobius have a cafeteria date talking about existential things

S2. Loki and Mobius have an automat date talking about existential things

S1. Loki and Mobius go to a shopping mall to find Sylvie, a mundane average American place. That place is about to be destroyed by an apocalypse.

S2. Loki and Mobius go to McDonald's to find Sylvie, a mundane average American place. That place is about to be destroyed by a bomb (to prune the branch).

S1. Sylvie is not interested in what Loki has to say, sees him as working for the TVA, and wants to remain focused on her own mission

S2. Sylvie is not interested in what Loki has to say, sees him as working for the TVA, and wants to remain undisturbed in the life she has chosen for herself

S1. Sylvie enchants C-20 to find out where the Time Keepers are

S2. Sylvie enchants X-5/Brad to find out how/where/when the timelines will be bombed

S1. Sylvie sets off hundreds of reset charges in various places on the timeline

S2. General Dox sets off hundreds of bombs on branched timelines

S1. TVA agents and Ravonna become aware of the issue

S2. Casey, B-15 and TVA agents become aware of the issue

S1. Sylvie leaves through a Time Door, Loki follows

S2. Sylvie leaves through a Time Door, Loki doesn't follow

There are some differences, of course, but the main moments are pretty similar.

So, I believe that Loki S2 might be structurally replicating S1 to enforce the idea of the cycle repeating and time loops on the viewer.

If this is the pattern and I’m not completely mad (which is always possible), we should see Loki and Mobius spend most of their time together at the World’s Fair in episode 3 (because Loki has chosen Mobius this time around).

How did I reach this conclusion? The idea of doing things again and again was sealed into the Loki S2 trailers.

And loops are coded into several names: Mobius, Ouroboros, but also Loki. In etymology, one of the meanings behind Loki’s name is loops (and tangled webs).

We also know that He Who Remains said, “Kill me and this all just starts again,” (I’m paraphrasing). He told us that time is a flat circle in his monologue, with the shape of the multiverses stacked on top of each other being a flat circle.

Ragnarok in Norse mythology is also a cycle that is doomed to repeat time and time again.

I’m fully fine to be completely wrong with this idea, and I can see that the episodes are not an exact replica, but it had enough story beats and overall length in time devoted to certain aspects (how long it takes Loki to find out where Sylvie is hiding through detective work in S1 versus how long it takes them to interrogate Brad and discover where Sylvie is in S2) and that’s why I consider it a strong possibility.

Only time will tell (pun very much intended).

And I also fully expect to see us go back and repeat things from S2’s episode 1 and 2 in later episodes. We have to see how Loki is pruned; that’s one of a few unsolved mysteries. And something will continue to push the angst over Loki losing his friends and Sylvie exclaiming that everything has fallen apart (again paraphrasing).

The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that Sylvie wearing He Who Remains' tempad on her wrist 24/7 is a plot point. The bracelet on her left wrist is the tempad. She taps it to open in the time window to where Dox and the others are bombing the timelines.

I think all tempads are set to record everything all the time (hence Mobius being able to call up the recording from Renslayer's tempad of her pruning C-20).

But the way that He Who Remains used it, I think it was what allowed him to see his and others' entire timeline from beginning to end. It's how he picked Sylvie's point of divergence when she was a child. He knew the exact moment to take her that would put her on the path that would eventually lead to the citadel at the end of time. She never had a Nexus event. I'm not even sure it was about her being pruned because the universe needed to go a certain way. I think all of the other Loki's were pruned specifically to isolate TVA Loki. But it doesn't seem as if he who remains ever worried that his timeline might be tampered with or erased. and we'll never know whether his original timeline was Sylvie's or Loki's. Only that he destroyed hers to manipulate her, and he may have created his to manipulate him.

What if Sylvie is using it to make sure nothing happens to her branch (sort of treating Braxton like Wanda did Westview) and the reason she is so angry as she's leaving the TVA is because she left her branch it may have been pruned?

I think she is scared to look at the future so she doesn't (or didn't). But I do think she is tempted by its power in a way she wasn't before Loki and Mobius showed up with X-5.

Miss minutes was heading towards her monitor, after a little night tour in the TVA complex. She found herself in a hallway she hadn't been in for some time, as it was the TVA's senior members' apartments. It was dark and silent.

A sudden noise startled her, so she slipped into the next hallway and looked around. She heard muffled voices but saw no one. Miss Minutes had always been curious. After all, people couldn't do much to her, and besides, she was small so she wasn't noticed. She walked down the hallway, closer to the voices and then stopped in front of a door when she recognized one of the voices. It was the voice of their new supervisor.

"Stop that right now!" Mobius murmured sharply.

Miss minutes wondered who he could be talking to like that in the middle of the night. She also knew that if there was one person who would absolutely not appreciate her eavesdropping, it was Mobius.

Then she recognized the second voice.

"I don't think you really want this, Mobius..." whispered Loki. Though Miss Minutes was slightly shocked at this point, she continued to listen.

"Loki, not here...." then Mobius' voice faded away and there was silence. Miss minutes wondered if she should leave or stay. But curiosity was the strongest and she wanted to see. So she slowly passed her little body through the opening of the door.

Luckily she was not made of flesh and blood, because she would have fainted.

Mobius was standing on the other side of the room, with his back against the wall, and Loki right in front of him, holding him by the wrists. Which would be a strange enough image, but that's not all. They were kissing and as far as she could tell, they were kissing passionately.

Loki and Mobius! Come to think of it, she should have known better, all those looks, brushes, gentle banter, all those clues were evidence of what was going on between the two men.

Seeing that things were heating up, she stepped back on the tips of her little feet and quickly headed back to her first destination.

It was the first Christmas after the TVA's restructuring and Carol, ex-Hunter C-20, was taking advantage of the calm in the hallways to take a little walk before returning to her apartment when she heard Mobius' voice.

"What are you doing here?" he asked.

Then she heard a second voice that belonged to none other than Loki

"I could ask you the same thing.''

After a pause, he continued, "You're not hiding from me, are you?".

Carol found there was a strange undertone in Loki's voice, as if he wanted to taunt Mobius, and it was very strange.

Loki seemed to have an extremely high respect for Mobius, so why would he talk to him like that?

"Don't be ridiculous, why would I hide from you, Loki?" replied Mobius gently.

"Oh, maybe you weren't hiding from me specifically. But there's quite a bit of mistletoe everywhere. So I wonder if that's what you were worried about." said Loki openly, teasing.

"You wouldn't dare Loki, right?"

There was no answer to the question and the silence seemed to drag on.

Carol waited a few seconds before glancing behind the wall.

It was rather dark, but she could clearly see the two men, pressed against each other.

Loki was holding his hand up. In the palm of his hand was a branch of mistletoe with green wisps around it, typical of his magic, and they were close, so close, pressing against each other, then Loki bent his head and…

Refusing to watch more, Carol went back the other way.

Although she had a huge urge to share this secret with her friends, she knew she wouldn't. The secret was not hers, and when Loki and Mobius were ready to share it, they would. But the idea of this unexpected couple warmed her heart. After all, seeing friends happy together was a great Christmas present.

For Casey, the restructuring of the TVA had been a little difficult, because he had to take in a lot of new information. Intensive courses were held and he wanted to take them all to catch up.Between his classes and his work at the TVA he was overloaded with work and he wanted to take advantage of his break to go and rest in a quiet place.

He walked along a few hallways to a restroom that he knew was unoccupied at that time of day. Just as he turned the corner he heard voices behind the door.He was about to leave when he heard the familiar voice of Mobius

"Are you sure about this, Loki?"

"What, are you trying to talk me out of it? "

Casey was about to open the door, happy to spend a moment with his favorite people from the TVA. His first friends whom he respected immensely.

However Mobius spoke again and Casey didn't want to intrude on what seemed to be a private conversation after all.

"Of course not, but I don't want to be something you regret tomorrow morning or in a few days."

"I will never regret you Mobius, never."

He didn't mean to pry, he really didn't, but the conversation had stopped a good 20 seconds ago, and Casey was too curious for his well-being.

So he discreetly slipped his head through the door, just enough to see if everything was okay.

But he soon realized that everything was perfectly fine, and above all he understood the reason for this prolonged silence.

Both Loki and Mobius had their lips occupied with... other activities than making conversation for once.

Casey couldn't suppress a smile, because Casey was always happy to see people they liked happy.

HB aka ex-HB summoned a Timedoor to return from a mission. It was a door that led directly into the office of Mobius who had taken Ravonna's position.

She went through the door and found herself in her former boss' office, which had changed a lot and was much less solemn.HB liked what Mobius had done with it. Especially the three imposing statues of the time keepers were gone.

The door that opened suddenly startled her, and by reflex, she backed up behind a bookcase.

Mobius and Loki were talking animatedly while entering the office, Mobius took his place behind his desk while Loki sat unceremoniously on his lap.

HB struggled to hold back a surprised gasp.

"Loki, not in my office, we've been over this."

Despite Mobius' protest, the way he tightened his arms around Loki's waist left no doubt that he was enjoying the situation very much.

"Just a minute, it's been at least three hours since I've seen you, and even longer since we've been alone together. Just a kiss and I'll be on my way."

Loki made a pout that Mobius was clearly unable to resist which didn't surprise HB, Loki had Mobius wrapped around his little finger since the first day they met.

"Loki, you know we're not going to stop at this."

"I can't help it if you're irresistible..."

"But this time we can't, in five minutes HB is supposed to be back from a mission, to make her mission briefing."

"What, you and HB alone in this office, like you and me?"

HB hardly restrained her laughter.

"Very funny, really. As much as I like HB you know very well that I only love you. "

This time HB hardly held back her gagging. Too much sap.

Loki made another pout which Mobius quickly wiped away with his lips before pushing him away.

"Come on, go to work now!"

Loki laughed as he headed for the door, then turned and blew a kiss, literally. There were two small green lips that flew towards Mobius and then placed a smacking kiss on his cheek.

"You don't know what you're missing! " Loki said as he closed the door behind him.

Mobius smiled fondly as he leaned back in his chair, "How about you tell me about your mission, HB?"

Sylvie was tired. She hadn't been home in over 72 hours and if she took more than ten steps without sleeping, she would fall to the ground. All she wanted to do was take a little nap to recharge her batteries.

She headed to the small break room where there were a few cots that were quite comfortable for the little nap she wanted to take. Unfortunately, she didn't go any further than the door, because as soon as she opened it, she saw Mobius and Loki sitting on one of the beds, very close, with their backs to her.

They had a conversation in low voice, which seemed very animated and that Sylvie did not manage to understand. She was torn between the idea of interrupting what was going on between them and looking for another place. On one hand, she didn't want to bother them, but on the other hand her mischievous side and her desire to rest were very strong.

Maybe she could just sit on one of the beds and they wouldn't notice her, she was so tired she was sure she would be able to fall asleep even if the two men started yelling. She was about to put this plan into action when Loki put his arm around Mobius and pulled him against his chest.

She had to go now, she couldn't stay.

The next few seconds passed in slow motion. Sylvie took a step back as Loki turned his head to place a kiss on Mobius' hair, and looked into her eyes. She saw his eyes widen and his body stiffen, causing Mobius to turn around to see what could have caused such a reaction in his companion.

Mobius said simply, "I know I'm not the kind of companion you were hoping for Loki, but get used to it, you'll be seeing more of this kind of situation in the future. Loki and I are together."

Sylvie answered simply, surrendering, "I basically just wanted a bed to sleep in, what you two do is none of my business." She was too tired to say anything more.

"Are you coming, Loki?" Mobius had walked over to the door and was holding out his hand to Loki.

Loki, looking baffled, hurried to join him. Mobius saw his face and said, "What? I never intended to hide. I'm proud to have you by my side."

Then they headed for the exit.

"You know I never had any expectations for Loki, but if I did, you would have met all the qualifications."

It was Mobius' turn to look baffled as Sylvie, ignoring them both, went to take a well-deserved rest.

"Ah there you are Loki. I would like to see something with you about the upcoming mission."

"Morning Mobius, I'm glad to see you too."

"Hello Mobius!" echoed a chorus of voices.

Mobius rolled his eyes in greeting, "Ah, Casey, Sylvie, HB you are here too. Hello."

"And I'm here too," added Miss Minutes.

"Yes, yes hello to you too!"

"Yes," HB added with a chuckle, "apparently we work here too."

"You guys don't stand a chance, he only sees me," Loki replied cheekily.

"Getting back to the mission Loki, we should review the different parameters-" Mobius stopped in the middle of his sentence, licked his lip before resuming, "ahem, the different parameters." Then, leaning forward, he continued, so that only Loki could hear him.

"Don't look at me like that and then feign innocence."

"Don't you like it?" replied Loki, looking totally innocent before answering with equal brazenness, "It's your fault, please stop looking so kissable."

However, if Loki was the god of Malice, Mobius could sometimes be the master of it.

"First of all you know very well that the one who looks the most kissable of the two of us, it's you." murmured Mobius pointing at him before continuing, "and if you don't stop looking at my lips without doing anything about it, I will take you right here on your desk."

Loki suddenly stood up, and said in a louder voice.

"Very well Supervisor Mobius, I think we're going to have to do a little more work on the mission! In order not to disturb my dear colleagues, I suggest we do this in your office."

"I couldn't agree more, Agent Loki, plus the coffee is much better there."

Loki stood up quickly and they both headed for the door.

The way their heads were tilted towards each other, the way their arms and hands brushed against each other at every opportunity, the way they communicated with their eyes, all those little details, left no doubt about the nature of their relationship for those who knew them.

"I wonder if it will ever get old," HB asked as she watched them walk away.

"I don't think so," replied Sylvie.

"You are unfortunately right," added Miss Minutes.

Then, shaking their heads and smiling, they all got back to work.
