To add on to how Oda’s involvement with Netflix should be taken with a grain of salt, there’s also this quote from a Netflix’s Director of Original Series Ted Biaselli where he makes it sound like every meeting with Oda was an argument:
“We're working directly with Eiichiro Oda who is the creator. You know, he's got a vision, and he's also never worked in television so there's this give and take in education of what works in live-action and what doesn't work in live-action. He'll tell us we're missing the point, that's not what this scene is about... Then we'll all go, oh, okay.”
Yup oh my god I remember that, I remember quoting that to people and they shrugged it off??? I was like?? Why is everyone pretending everything's just fine???
Also, fun fact? The guy who said that? Also said this about the live action Avatar the Last Airbender. You know, the series where they ALSO got the original creators onboard, but those creators left the production because they weren't being listened to?
Tumblr media
Sure Ted, I'm sure EVERYONE working on the series LOVED the original animated series. They loved it so much, the original creators essentially got kicked out! Just like how EVERYONE who worked on the OPLA was such a HUUUGE One Piece fan!
And like, Mr Ted is wrong, Oda HAS worked in television. He's literally helped write scripts for One Piece movies and has created original characters for both the anime and One Piece films. Some things cannot adapt from animation, and Oda more than anyone would fucking know that? Why do you think One Piece is so fucking finely engineered to fit into its medium? Genuinely just feels insulting to be like "Oh he doesn't know what he's doing" as if he's not trying to help fix the STORY, not the process of MEDIUM ADAPTION?
It's not "Oh you just don't understand live action adaption" when Oda has said "HEY?? MAYBE DON'T ADD GARP?" like...I'm sorry?? Please explain to me why Garp just SCREEEAMED to be shoved into a live action medium, so much so that you had to fight the original creator over it??
Just spare me.
(edit)
Oh yeah and for those wondering where the quote's from here's the article. Just an absolutely bizarre move for him to even say that and for it to be included in the article at all when it's an article supposedly praising the production of the live action? Strange.

Netflix's One Piece Exec Details Eiichiro Oda's Role on the Show
One Piece has been around for decades, and there seems to be nothing the series hasn't done. From movies to video games and everything in between, the Straw Hat Crew has been busy ever since they came together. Of course, Netflix is hoping to shake up its history by giving One Piece a live-action TV adaptation. And now, one of the show's executives is opening up about how One Piece is coming to terms with its creator's acceptance.
The information comes straight from Ted Biaselli, head of Netflix Originals. The executive appeared on The Guest Episode Ever to talk business, and that's where One Piece focused. Here, Biaselli acknowledges that series creator Eiichiro Oda is heavily involved with the show and keeps the team on track when things get mixed up.
In conclusion, the One Piece wanted poster is an effective way to find information on pirates. It is a simple, easy to use tool that provides a lot of information. The One Piece wanted poster is a great resource for anyone looking for information on pirates.
Oda's work with Netflix
"We work directly with the producer, Eiichiro Oda. You know, he has a vision, and he's never worked in television before, so what works and what doesn't work in live-action Education is give and take. It will tell us that we're missing the point, that [it's], not this scene. Then we'll be all right, oh, right," Biselli shared, Oda and TV Nodded to her role in the series.
Of course, Oda has been associated with One Piece since the beginning of her time at Netflix. In 2020, writer Matt Owens stated that when pre-production began, he and his team were regularly submitting scripts to Oda. "Oda and his team are very dedicated. They read all our drafts and all our scripts and give us notes," shared the writer.
"Netflix knows how valuable this property is to it. It's successful because it already exists. All the changes are to make it palatable to a wider audience and the live-action version."
One Piece is a manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. The story follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a young man whose body gains the properties of rubber after unintentionally eating a Devil Fruit. He and his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, travel the seas in search of the world's ultimate treasure, the One Piece.
The One Piece wanted t-shirt is a shirt that features a picture of Monkey.
Netflix's One Piece has come a long way since its announcement, and fans are getting more excited by the day for their first look. Principal photography for the TV series wrapped earlier this year, so all eyes are on a behind-the-scenes look at post-production. No doubt Oda is keeping an eye on the TV series as editing continues. And when we first see the Netflix adaptation, you can bet the One Piece creator will be the first to share his reaction.

Netflix Director Claims King Grayskull & Andra Race Swapped in Masters Of The Universe: Revelations Was Because New Characters “Could Be Easily Rejected"!
Netflix Director Claims King Grayskull & Andra Race Swapped in Masters Of The Universe: Revelations Was Because New Characters “Could Be Easily Rejected”!
Netflix Director Ted Biaselli revealed why the Masters of the Universe: Revelations team had race-swapped King Grayskull and Andra. It’s funny, I’ve talked about this for a while now, and I mean damm, if this doesn’t highlight what they think about creating representation, I don’t know what will spur you to take matters into your own hands. New behind the scenes video for The Dark Crystal : Age of Resistance. Jason Isaacs features along with the puppeteers, the crew and some of the other members of the voice cast.
Getting happy goosebumps from my childhood when I watch the new footage. I saw the original at the cinema when I was a child. Still is one of my favourite films to date. Can't wait for the new series.
Check out the behind the scenes video in the link.

We take a look at the Masters of the Universe: Revelation comic that leads into the show. We also discuss the weird inconsistencies that keep popping up. Kevin Smith does more backpedaling, this time claiming the show is not a sequel to the 80s cartoon despite the show being billed that way from the beginning. On top of that, a clip from 2013 surfaced of Smith admitting he isn't a fan of He-man on camera. As if there wasn't enough evidence already that he's been two-faced about all of this. But Smith isn't the only one that's causing us to question things.
The director of Revelation, Ted Biaselli, made some weird comments too. He claimed that MoTU fans can't handle new characters being added and it would take time for us to accept them because apparently he forgot that MoTU adds characters quite often. They even added a twin sister for He-man and gave her a spin off show with new characters to follow. Maybe this guy can't handle new characters, but that's on him more than anyone else.
As for the comic itself, it really hammers in the importance of keeping a secret identity while simultaneously trying to shame Adam for keeping a secret so that's kind of weird but OK.
Oh, this is just gets worse and worse and worse.

Castlevania: the 4th and Final Season
FredFilms Postcard Series 3.1
Kevin Kolde is the visionary behind the entire Castlevania series on Netflix. Full stop.
Kevin’s the guy who saw ahead that video games would more and more often be fertile ground for story adaptation, working long and hard to get the Castlevania: Dracula’s Curse rights from Konami more than a decade ago. He admired Warren Ellis’ graphic novel writing, his ability to develop characters where there were none (let’s face it, there were 8-bit designs that looked like humans and they were named, but...), and trust him to write his first screenplay (the project was originally written to be an animated movie). And Warren delivered beyond the call of duty, it’s obvious.
The team at Powerhouse Animation (led by Brad Graber, and in the case of Castlevania, driven first by Adam Deats before his brother Sam Deats joined the project) sent along a blind presentation, before they’d even seen the script, that Kevin immediately grokked was right on the nose. And boy, did they work hard and more these last six years!
And then, after years of soul crushing rejection, our friend Ted Biaselli brought Kevin around Netflix until Larry Tanz saw the vision and came aboard in 2015. The rest is history.
From WikiMilli:
The review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes reported that 82% of critics have given the first season a positive review based on 28 reviews, with an average rating of 7.61/10. The site's critics consensus reads, "Castlevania offers spectacular visuals and a compelling adaptation in its all-too-short first season."  It is the first video game adaptation in the site's history to receive a "Fresh" rating. Metacritic, which assigns a rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, reported that there were "generally favorable reviews" for the first season, with an weighted average score of 71 based on 5 reviews.
The Verge gave a mixed review, noting that the gore did little to create a sense of danger and felt "intentionally flashy". It concluded that "Castlevania is ripe with potential, but also burdened with clichés." [37] Dave Trumbore of Collider gave the series four stars out of five, praising the chemistry between the cast and comparing the violence with anime such as Ninja Scroll . [38] IGN also wrote glowingly of Warren Ellis's script, but felt some of his humor was a little jarring. [39] In a review for Paste Magazine , Dave Raposo wrote that Castlevania channeled the cutaway gag formula that is seen in Family Guy . He dismissed the "absurd" attempts at humanizing Dracula and called it a "milquetoast imitation of Game of Thrones ", noting that the ambitions of the script "fly in the face of the simple ideals that unify the best entries in the Castlevania series".
Several reviews lauded the voice cast, particularly Graham McTavish as Dracula and Richard Armitage as Trevor Belmont. Screen Rant 's Sarah Moran drew attention to the "sarcastic edge" that Armitage brought to the character, and also noted Callis's "air of sophistication" as Alucard.Destructoid also wrote positively of Trevor Belmont as a protagonist, but criticized the animation and added that the character designs were "flat".Dan Seitz at Uproxx left a negative review, writing that it tried too hard to find profundity in the story of the Castlevania series. He also cited issues with the pacing.
Rotten Tomatoes reported that 100% of critics have given the second season a positive review with an average rating of 9.3/10, based on 15 reviews. The critics consensus reads, "Castlevania sinks its fangs into vampiric lore during a devilishly fun second season that benefits from an expanded sense of scale and episode tally that allows the series to fully spread its leathery wings."
One quick story. When Kevin originally joined me at Frederator around 2005 he told me he had the Castlevania rights that he wanted to keep out of the deal. After he explained to me what he wanted to do– saying something like “all the video game adaptations suck, I want to make the best one ever!”– I said that even though we’d been known for kids comedies, I wanted in on anything he wanted to do. Anything.
Little did I know where his visions would lead. Thanks Kevin!

Kevin Smith's animated Masters of the Universe series at Netflix has lined up a powerhouse voice cast.
Mark Hamill, Lena Headey, Chris Wood and Sarah Michelle Gellar headline the ensemble for Masters of the Universe: Revelation, an anime-style series on which Smith serves as showrunner. The series will focus on the unresolved storylines of the iconic characters in the He-Man universe, picking up where they left off decades ago.
Mattel Television is producing the series. Smith executive produces with Adam Bonnett (Descendants), Christopher Keenan (Batman Beyond) and Rob David (He-Man and the Masters of the Universe). Susan Corbin produces. Powerhouse Animation (Castlevania) is the animation studio.
"I cannot believe the lineup of talent I get to play with," said Smith. "The incredible, star-studded cast that Mattel’s Rob David and Netflix’s Ted Biaselli assembled for our Masters of the Universe series will let any lifelong He-Man fan know we’re treating this cartoon seriously and honoring the legendary world of Eternia with A-list talent. Chris, Sarah, Mark, Lena and the other amazing actors and actresses have given performances so powerful and real in a show that features a talking giant green tiger. With these fantastic performers behind our characters, it’ll be crazy easy to immerse yourself in the swords and sorcery of our epic sci-fi soap opera."
Hamill will play the villainous Skeletor in the series. Game of Thrones star Headey plays Skeletor's right-hand woman, Evil-Lyn. Wood (Supergirl, ABC's Thirtysomething sequel) is Prince Adam/He-Man, and Gellar and Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones) play He-Man's cohorts Teela and Man-at-Arms, respectively.
The cast also includes Stephen Root, Diedrich Bader, Griffin Newman, Tiffany Smith, Henry Rollins, Alan Oppenheimer, Susan Eisenberg, Alicia Silverstone, Justin Long, Jason Mewes, Phil LaMarr, Tony Todd, Cree Summer, Kevin Michael Richardson, Kevin Conroy and Harley Quinn Smith. Oppenheimer, who plays Moss Man in the new show, was the voice of Skeletor in the 1983 He-Man series.
