Can someone with brains please please PLEASE talk about the disgusting portrayal of cops, crime, court proceedings, justice system and prison incarceration in genshin impact's fontaine update because I cannot SIT HERE and see people completely destroy their brain cells just so they could play a mediocre game and make some fictional men fuck in their mind
I'm deadass surprised there isn't more people talking about it??? I'm honestly so ??? It's literally presenting prison labour as a good thing. Wriothesley, the prison administrator, got rich off of making his inmates build police robots for the state AND HE'S PRAISED FOR IT. AND THEY'RE PAID IN COUPONS THAT CAN ONLY BE USED IN JAIL. HE WAS REWARDED FOR IT WITH HIS DUKE STATUS.
The fact that the fucking MC's mascot was like "oh the prisoners get one free meal a day? you're making life too good down here what if no one wants to leave :(" what in the bullshit. What in the. There's also a fighting ring in the prison, by the way, and you can bet on it with your coupons you just can't bet on both fighters.
The. This is a scene people think is hot. "But that's a bad guy!" THAT'S HOW THE NARRATIVE IS WRITTEN. THEY ARE ALWAYS THE BAD GUY IN FICTION. THAT'S HOW COPAGANDA WORKS, they make you think people in power can just beat the shit outta anyone and of course the person deserves it because they are clearly always the bad guys! And the people in power are always right! This is sarcasm btw.
Neuvillette and the magic judgement machine are literally seen as undeniable justice ordained by magic and NO ONE KNOWS HOW IT WORKS. NEUVILLETTE HIMSELF HAS NO CLUE WHAT HE'S DOING HE'S ACTIVELY FIGURING SHIT OUT AS WE SPEAK. And yet it's what sends people to The Worst Most Dangerous Super Scary Prison Ever Where There's No Laws [but 1 meal a day's great /s].
"But he feels bad!" Genshin has repeatedly chosen to highlight the pains and troubles of the oppressors [Eula] [Ei/Shogun] and there's literally never any repercussions for them aside from when they portray The Haterz clearly as villains or they turn it around and say "Well it was a misunderstanding all along! No one's to blame here!"
I'm not smart enough to go into details I'm just saying. This. needs to be talked about. I'm not telling you to stop the game bc Hyperfixations not really smth that can be controlled or whatever I get It I Got Back into the game when the first trailer dropped I drew neuvillette fanart and then everything just went downhill since then and I'm like why the fuck did I expect anything better than racist, pro cop dogshit from Mihoyo It needs to be talked about ESPECIALLY by people who still cares about it to critically. assess what the fuck you are absorbing because this shit isn't okay. This is literally paw patrol for weebs they just didn't call anyone a "cop"
PLEASE. TALK ABOUT IT.

hiya dio!! tossing in 3 (honkai star rail? 👀), 5, and 15!!
hiya ian! thanks for shooting me an ask!!
3.) Go to the [honkai star rail] tag and reblog some art you like that has under 100 notes
aight i gotchu oomfie, ill search for stuff to queue up 😤😤
5.) What genre do you like reading the best?
angst and hurt/comfort 🔛🔝!!!
it's painful, it's good, and it makes emotional processing so much easier and less burdensome because the difficulty goes into finding an okay sentence and stringing together ok-ish dialogue (but at least those can be solved with a banger ass playlist, ykw?)
augh special mention to one of my formative twst fics i love that grim has such a big role in this
15.) Worst fanfic tropes ever?
NOO!!!! U CANT MAKE ME SAY BAD THINGS ABT FANFIC!!! ALL FANFIC IS GOOD WHEN IT IS MADE WITH HEART!!!
(did i say bridal carry? ill just say it again for funsies HAHAHA i dont like bridal carries, it doesn't spark any joy, please just carry me like this🤧👇👇)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i'm usually really open-minded with reading fanfics... so aside from the obvious fanfic writing sins (using generative AI, plagiarism, not doing enough careful research for sensitive topics) OH WAIT--
(this is probably specific to genshin/hyv) but i Reaaaaally don't like it when fandom infantilizes characters that use the teenage model. like, there is such a thing as short adults! (me. i am one of them!) one time i saw someone say that lynette was probably a year younger than lyney and i was confused bcs aren't they twins??? like, are we forgetting that lynette was the primary "errand-goer" for the house of hearth upon getting her vision? girlie's probably seen more shit than lyney did.
^^semi-related to infantilizing characters, i dont like how some obm fics treat luke as a literal toddler. like, yes he's immature but he's got a good head on his shoulders and even if he's a low-ranked angel he probably has sm powers that he can make use of to protect MC. and i esp see how he gets left out even in gen/platonic fics and hcs. smtimes i feel compelled to look at the game's shitty pop quiz events for fanfic fuel (i mean, the luke tag has more ppl saying not to sexualize him than actual writing and that bugs me ://)
There used to be this really good obm fanfic (Nightmare by StarsEncrusted) and it had a plot point of helping luke get his wings, but it++the author's orig account got deleted from ao3. thankfully some fans had the foresight to archive it, so heres a wayback link to the fic and the accompanying side stories
i guess to expound more on my aversion to marriage in fanfic, it icks me when the characterization stops feeling like the characters themselves and the fic starts feeling heteronormative (also sometimes the writing comes across as if the marriage/childbirth "fixes" all those issues, which, it doesn't) and, well, i already kind of deal with the idea of "getting settled down" shoved in my face. it's really not for me. but i do understand why it's comforting to people, smtimes i can indulge in reading in it. but on a bad day, nah, i can't.
anyway, also special shout out to chat fics, they can be fun but idk it reads to me as a way to regurgitate overused incorrect quotes. (please some vines need to be laid to rest. also, can we stop quoting that one copaganda show oh my god)
(art appreciation ask questions, please bug me to rb some underrated fic and art)

I mean, yes it is fun to deliberate on Jason's and Bruce's respective points of reasoning in utrh or in general after Jason's return. But most meta about gun use, copaganda, morality of killing, etc. inevitably miss the point, because neither Jason nor Bruce are being rational in their interactions. Both have heavy trauma relating to Jason's death AND to his return. The way Jason returned to Gotham and revealed himself was no doubt another traumatizing experience for Bruce and how Bruce reacted and dealt with Jason must have reinforced trauma responses in Jason. I'm just saying, they ARE NOT arguing about right or wrong. Because those kind of arguments always have a solution or compromise. What Jason and Bruce are fighting about is pain. It is the only kind of fight that can last for years. The only kind that can have both parties needing the same thing, just to fucking hug each other and say that they still love one another, where they still can't get that though. How is Jason supposed to ever believe that again the way he used to? God, I bet Jason would give anything to hear those words and not doubt them but he can't anymore. How is Bruce ever supposed to hold his son again without it ripping him apart? As much as they are fighting eachother, they are also fighting themselves. It's the way the world tears you apart and teaches you how to do that yourself and doesn't teach you how to stop.

Honestly in my opinion, there’s nothing WRONG with watching copaganda shows, AS long as you know theyre copaganda yk? I like Brooklyn 99 but I still know it’s copaganda despite that yk????
completely agree! like, there's a difference between watching a copaganda show because you actually like and support cops irl, and watching a copaganda show because you enjoy other aspects of it without actually supporting its pro-police methods. copaganda is sneaky and very insidious so there's absolutely something to be said for being very aware and critical when you're consuming that. that's why i am whenever i watch most of my favorite shows.
and like, copaganda has different levels. ultimately it's ALL copaganda, but there's a major difference between, say, shows like Blue Bloods, which literally justifies ALL of its main characters commiting police brutality, and Station 19, which strongly focuses on BLM, highlights the Black characters' disillusionments with the police, has deep storylines about Black characters and white characters working together to actually create tangible change, and allows its Black characters to show pain and discomfort without tone policing them.
i can't stand shows like Blue Bloods because it's clear that they were CREATED with an intent to spread copaganda. it's pretty difficult to watch a show like that and not be affected by its copaganda, no matter how much you think you're against cops, which is why i stopped watching it very early on. however, watching shows like station 19, 911, and 911: lone star (which, mind you, are all about firefighters for the most part, not cops) is much easier because the copaganda they contain is much easier to analyze and work with and not internalize.
i enjoy shows like that primarily because they often contain a found family dynamic that is enhanced by the characters having to face danger together, a dynamic that i've always loved. i don't watch them because "ooooooooooh cops good wahhhhhh", and in many cases these shows have actually given me so much inspiration to not only unpack my own racial biases, but to formulate ideas of how to participate in anti-racism in the future, which is something i take very seriously.
so it's not that i take copaganda lightly. i do not. but i also am able to have a critical lens and separate myself from copaganda messages when i watch certain cop-adjacent shows, and i don't think it's particularly helpful to try and tell people that media consumption is always and unequivocally related to what you believe- i know from personal experience that media can have a very diverse set of purposes- you can use media with fucked up themes for things other than justifying fucked up shit.
i guess, in a way, in the same way that people can have interests and fascinations with other dark media, doesn't mean they're suddenly going to condone murder and shit.
on a side note i actually seriously recommend station 19 and 911: lone star because they have both greatly strengthened my anti-cop sentiments. station 19 actually lingers on the topic of BLM for awhile instead of just trying to sweep it under the rug after one episode. a huge part of the show focuses on the Crisis One team, a team that two of the Black main characters created together to respond to mental health crises with trained responders instead of automatically deploying the police.
it also allows the Black characters so much room to grieve and be angry, and regularly disparages cops as a system and shows the firefighters struggling internally with working within a system they don't support. it's very good in my (albeit white) opinion.
and 911: lone star shows a lot of natural diversity and deals with it pretty well imo. like, instead of just having a Muslim woman for diversity points, they actually develop her and allow her the room to be a whole character. they allow the Black trans guy to deal with his family issues in a very adult way and they show the real traumas that come with being Black and trans while also allowing him joy in his trans identity. they show one of the most beautiful gay relationships i've ever seen on TV and one of the main characters struggles with his learning disabilities and instead of laughing at him, all the other characters just... adapt to his learning style and help him pass his tests to become a firefighter.
i really recommend the shows if you haven't already watched them!

hi. if you would like. infodump. about literally anything. games, books, hc's, etc. ramble to your hearts content. if you don't want to, have these funky guys as an offering of peace
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I read the worry worm and it made me so happy. Kind of having an anxiety moment(tm) so sorry if this is wild
Time to info dump on my blog about IT. I love everything about IT but IT. I think the concept of a monster that attacks people using their imagination and can therefore also only be defeated by imagination is ingenious. The idea that it feeds off of hate because hate creates fear and the way someone could use this to explore the fear minorities faced during certain time periods and how we should be working together to make everyone feel safer otherwise we are the real monsters? Peak horror
The idea that Pennywise is more of an allegory for the monsters that is bigotry and hate????? Using the outcasts as one of the ones to defeat the monster???? yes please!!
Sadly, Stephen fucking King wrote the book and no movie adaption has been able to do the concept justice. Stephen King is my enemy must I explain why his delivery is terrible??? The movies only feed on this more by not explaining the monster and not delving into the themes. Also, ironically, the bigotry of everyone gets in the way of fully exploring the story and it's themes.
Not to mention a million things that could have been cut. Using Native American culture as a plot device???? No thanks ! The kids winning by... bullying... the monster????? Delete from my mind.
The scary moments are also awfullllll. Mostly discussing 2017/2019 because I am more familiar with them. Eddie's nightmare????? Delete delete delete. I need something new. Fresh. Not this weird zombie rip off?????? What???? Also, if we are going with the being gay in the 80s angle along with also having a fear of being sick, there are so many ways we could go !! Oh, and Richie ! I love him but he also needed a better fear. They actually went with the clown thing which is hilarious. The fear of death could have been a good way to go too but they barely delve into that. Oh, also, I think in the movies they should have explored more of his fear of losing his sight. That could be good. And all these fears can be tied into the marginalization of the characters in a way to tie by to the themes
Also Mike, Mike my main man is the only one with a scary fear scene. Only complaint is there wasn't more of them !! Also they took Mikes thing away from him and gave it to Ben only to give it back to him in chapter 2????? Weird but go off I guess. I think the movie could also delve more into his trauma and more so to tie back to the.... ✨theme✨
Ben does not have a scary scene until chapter 2. This is also a good scary scene. 10/10. Just I needed more ! Also, Ben should not become... "super hot" Ben deserving of love if he is conventually attractive or not
Bill... Work yourself out Bill. Love Bill. Don't know what's wrong with him but love him. Play more into his guilt. Stop showing the fucking clown. Oooo, a good idea could be that maybe Bill hears Georgie's voice sometimes. The idea that Georgie is still out there and he is doing nothing constantly haunts him as he feels as if he continues to fail his brother.
Bev... Bev my beloved. She's perfect. The movie did the best with her trauma (best for the movie that is) by adding the hair cutting. Still don't know why Stephen Kings only plot for women is periods. He should get that checked out or smth idk. I would just explore more her pain of getting bullied. It can't be easy on her to have the constant weight of society's views of her.
Also, cut the weird copaganda shit out of the movie. No, I will not sympathize with Henry but I also don't think the movie should want me to cheer on cops beating the shit out of him??? Jesus.
I could go on my I shall not. End of story, someone hire me to direct IT pls pls pls. I swear I will let the gays kiss. I swear it

Hi Leah! I have a question that you may not have an answer to but maybe your followers may know.
On a few occasions, I have seen some post that say Chris Meloni in the past may have said or tweeted something transphobic. I can't find evidence of it anywhere!
I don't agree with everything he post on Twitter. Mostly the pro cop tweets. Given his job I don't expect anything different. Mariska has posted the same. But Chris for the most part seems like an cool dude. I don't know him personally so I don't have a blinding trust in him but I have yet to see any huge red flags.
Are they confusing Chris for Elliot? Elliot has said some pretty shitty things. But so have all the characters from SVU. I watched the Pose episodes he starred in with Dominique Jackson so I don't get where him being called transphobic is coming from.
Did he say or tweet anything or are antis making this up?
whew ok i debated not answering this at all bc i don't like to give a platform to the random garbage the antis spew, but in this case i felt like i needed to address it.
re: the transphobic thing. i had to look it up, bc a) i'd never heard anyone say this and b) i have a hard time believing that chris "be weird" sex positive ultra liberal meloni was transphobic on main. if you google chris and trans or transphobia, the first thing that pops up is one tweet thread from two years ago. literally just google "chris meloni transphobic" it's the first hit. he retweeted a video of some sort (i can't find the actual video now) and cracked a joke. you can look it up for yourself and decide how you feel about it; i think it was in poor taste, but he's also a (then) 58 year old white dude, and there was no particular hate or malice behind it, and when people called him out for transphobia he tweeted asking why. not whining, he literally said "Ok so I am getting the idea that my honest reaction is transphobic. Why?" the comments in reply to that are pretty divided, as again his words were not blatantly hateful, and people had a variety of responses. it's not a clear black and white. but that's literally the only thing; the next hit for chris and trans issues is an article from the advocate years ago where he talks about raising kids in an "lgbt inclusive" family. trust and believe if there had been more than one incident, there would have been more thinkpieces about it; this one tweet incident spawned several results and at least one youtube video i could find, but there's literally nothing else.
this is really a subpoint of part 1, but elliot wasn't transphobic, either. elliot literally sits beside a trans kid who asked him what he'd do if his son was trans and he says he'd try to understand and love his child anyway.
which leads me really to the final paragraph of your message, sorry i'm out of order here, but. elliot didn't say a lot of shitty things. that's an anti myth. elliot stabler, devout catholic, says things like "when god gives you a uterus then maybe we'll care about your opinion" to anti-abortion priests. elliot is the one in the early seasons who tries to make olivia be more compassionate towards a man with mental health issues. he's respectful of women, he's gentle with children and victims, he doesn't bash gay people or trans people or do any of that socially conservative bullshit. the only victim he ever belligerently didn't believe is in doubt, and the entire point of that case is that neither of the people involved was believable. that's just literally not who elliot is. was elliot violent? sure! liv is too! but the show - bc it is copaganda, so of course it does this - takes pains to show elliot's aggression only being directed towards other aggressors; elliot isn't beating up every random person he meets.
circling back to chris's pro cop tweets; if you search his twitter feed for "police" or "cop" all you find are hits about Uvalde and Jan 6. like. like literally, all the way back to 2013, there's nothing about cops in there beyond "hey jan 6 was bad" and "the police failed those kids". the oldest tweet, from 2013, is someone asking him "has playing a cop changed ur view of crime/punishment & law enforcement" to which he responded "i learned some gnarly stats." he doesn't even say what those stats are!!! like i'm sorry the data simply is not there he's not tweeting pro-cop shit. again unless you count the jan 6 stuff, but i feel like "an armed mob attacking capitol police in an attempt to overthrow the government is bad, actually" is maybe a little more nuanced than "pro cop".
all of that goes to this point: celebrities are human, and fallible, and make mistakes, and should not be held up as some kind of paragons of virtue who say the right thing 100% of the time. but it is important to remember that just bc we hear something doesn't mean it's true; we gotta look for the facts. you won't find a lot of facts from fans on twitter; the antis will keep repeating the same made-up lines that justify their point of view, and hardcore chris fans will refuse to believe he's capable of saying something unkind. you gotta look for the data, and decide for yourself.
but we also gotta remember; we are not all born knowing everything we need to know about rights issues, about communities other than our own, about life and the world and people. we are all gonna hear something for the first time at some point, and we are all gonna be faced with a choice to learn and grow, or continue on the same path as before. we all gotta allow ourselves the grace to say something wrong, hear that we're wrong, and try to be better. if someone doesn't try to be better then we say fuck 'em.

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime, books, movies or tv series)? Thanks....
Omg.....EVER????? Also, generally speaking, nobody minds getting these asks LOL. Most people enjoy talking about their favorite anything. I am very happy to receive something like this lol
Uhhh okay so disclosure, MOST of these will be characters from manga, because honestly that's MOST of the media I consume ever since I was in middle school. BUT I will do my best to turn off my weeb brain for a second because I do have other things I enjoy lol. I'm gonna go on little rants about each person too so....yeah. I'm also gonna put a cut under the first two because it's gonna get long.
1. Tomura Shigaraki from My Hero Academia
Tumblr media
This may just be because of the timing, seeing as how I'm deeply invested in this series right now, but he seriously took the top spot SO fast. He took the top spot before I even got to his backstory. There's just something about his character that is just, unlike any other. Before getting the details on what's going on inside his heart during MVA, I was sucked in by how immature and bratty he was in the beginning. I was like "ooh baby let me give you a hug, please calm down and don't scratch, here's some hot coffee" LOL. Just, the way Horikoshi managed to make people (who pay attention) see just how stuck in his past he is, how strangled he is by his pain and how obviously desperate he is to have someone notice that deep hidden pain, I don't know how Horikoshi did it honestly. Obviously this character has been in the works for years, and it shows. I think what got me attached to him so quickly was me immediately wondering what he would be like if he was happy. The mall scene with Midoriya just SOLD me on him so fast. I was like "oh yeah, these two are gonna get along great, and this guy is gonna be happy at some point, he's got to be". Okay moving on lol
2. Yuu Kanda from D.Gray-Man
Tumblr media
Kanda was in Shigaraki's spot before I got into BNHA lol. He is also another horribly sad character, who hides his pain and doesn't let it show on the surface. He's one of those characters where once you get his backstory, you look back on his actions and words throughout the story before finding out, and you can see how he's mangled by his emotions (very much like Shigaraki's character). D.Gray-Man as a manga alone is almost flawless, and Kanda is also damn near flawless as a character. What got me attached to Kanda immediately was when I watched the FIRST anime and Travis Willingham (Roy Mustang's english VA) voiced him LOL. Not a great reason to get attached, but once I got further into the story I was like "oh, this guy has Problems™️, he's just my type". But seriously, Kanda is one of the greatest characters. He's very layered, and he fools readers easily. He comes across as a copaganda-type character in the manga, and then you find out later that's not the case. I don't know, he's just fantastic all around.
3. Roy Mustang from Fullmetal Alchemist
Tumblr media
Roy is great because he embodies being a "good guy" (a protagonist) while also being a "bad guy", someone who commits unforgivable sins that the main protagonists can't look past, that other people can't look past, that even Roy himself can't forgive himself for. I love him because he wants change, but struggles to make it happen. He stands by his decisions but feels like he can never redeem himself for the things he's done. He loves his comrades, and he supports the Elric brothers even if he doesn't act like it. And he's quick to accept the idea of enemies working together, because he was quick to learn that everyone is everyone's enemy in their world, somehow. He's great. I love him.
4. Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist
Tumblr media
Idk what to say for Ed, beyond he is just a great character. He honestly doesn't change much throughout the entire story? He sticks to his ideals of "people are people", even when it makes his life harder. He's immature but also has seen way too much for someone his age. His story has everything in it: love, forgiveness, hate, family, friends, all of that shounen shit. He makes the biggest sacrifice at the end to save his brother. He's amazing. I love him. He's one of the first manga characters I've ever gotten super attached to so, he holds a special place in my heart.
5. Kyo Sohma from Fruits Basket
Tumblr media
I think he is THE first manga character I've ever gotten super attached to. Fruits Basket is the manga that sucked me into the manga/anime world in the first place (fuck Furuba actually lol). Kyo is another sad boy, ofcourse. He's super bratty and cringe in the beginning. He's basically Bakugo. Which is how when I first saw Bakugo I was like "oh yeah I know where this is going lmao". But Kyo is the best character in Fruits Basket, he makes the story. One of my first favs ever, so he also holds a special place in my heart.
6. Tamaki Suoh from Ouran High School Host Club
Tumblr media
Again, this is probably nostalgia keeping him on this list. I read this manga in high school and have not stopped loving it since. It's one of the ones I re-read all the time. I love Tamaki because he's so embarrassing but he kind of fits in with that "rich guy with a super cool attitude with a lot of baggage" trope, but he also kind of kills that trope too. He's a rich guy who's popular with girls and can be cool on the surface, but when it comes to anything even remotely real he becomes a stupid ridiculous mess that gives readers and ME serious second hand embarrassment reading it, and all coolness goes out the window. He's so dumb and he makes me smile.
Leaving the weeb shit now:
7. Carlton Lassiter from Psych
Tumblr media
Okay, so random from my blog's usual content. But Psych is just....easily one of the greatest shows of all time. It's hilarious, it's something you can just watch for the sake of it, it's not super linear in plot, but there are some relationship dynamics that are linear and develop throughout the show, regardless of lack of linear story line. Lassiter is one of the best characters. He's definitely a Cop™️, but it's a detective show so yeah. Lassiter is the stereotypical cop. He's gun happy (and gets called out on it), he's absorbed in his job and makes it his entire personality, and he shuts everyone out which results in him being a super lonely asshole. But what makes him so great is his relationships with everyone in the show. The main characters, Shawn and Gus, are class clowns and step on Lassiter's territory in the police department, show him up a lot, irritate him on purpose, the usual "goofy character and overly serious character butt heads constantly" trope. But what's great about Lassiter is that his real self shows in little actions here and there. He does nice things for Shawn without being asked to (who is honestly a walking disaster of a human being and burns bridges left and right), he has a huge heart but just doesn't show it. He changes so much throughout the show and his relationship with the main cast just becomes so soooo entertaining, and heart warming. He is like, the heart of the found family that the cast forms. Shawn and Gus are the glue that hold everyone together, and Lassiter is the heart that everyone could never live without. He's just all around great and he makes the series stick its landing.
8. Shawn Spencer from Psych
Tumblr media
Another from Psych. He's the main character and he's a disaster. He burns his bridges but people stick with him regardless. He and his best friend Gus play straight into the Sherlock Holmes dynamic. He screws up a lot and other people (namely Gus) have to clean up his messes. But Shawn also has other things going on in his head. He has major daddy issues lol and it's one of the most focused-on relationships in the show, as his dad is his biggest critic and biggest support. He and Lassiter ^^^ have the best development ever. Shawn is a selfish asshole, but despite the fact that Lassiter constantly puts him down and insults him and tries to make him feel unwelcome, Shawn goes out of his way multiple times to help Lassie and make his life easier. Probably because Shawn can read people and that's his heart showing through. Him and Lassie end up really close later on anyway.
9. Adrian Monk from Monk
Tumblr media
AHHH this show is similar to Psych except it's more linear (there is an endgame goal), and it's more dramatic and sad. Monk, another detective show, is a very sad character. I used him for an assignment when I was in undergrad and we were learning about personality disorders once LOL, we had to pick a character from any media who depicted characteristics of a personality disorder of our choise (obsessive compulsive personality disorder is the one here). Anyway, Monk depicts mental illness really well. He's deeply sad and always in pain, and he's a genius detective who was discharged from the force because of his psychiatric issues. He lost his wife in a murder and it's the one murder he can't solve, which is the end-game of the series. But what makes him great is that he's kinda unlikable and frustrating at first, but his true colors show here and there. And he's one of those characters that frustrates people around him, and because of his mental illness he burns bridges and tests his relationships a lot (which is very realistic), but people stick by him and he genuinely tries to do right by the people who try for him. Again, it's a show that you can just sit back and watch to pass time. It's not rooted with overarching themes or anything, it's just a mystery show with a new murder to solve every episode, but the characters go through development and change and it's great watching their relationships grow.
10. Gregory House from House M.D.
Tumblr media
I saved him for last because his description was the longest. Ugh. House. Okay. Another Sherlock Holmes dynamic in this show. Disaster person with a well put-together partner. The best way I can describe House is like, a reverse-tragedy. House is the protagonist that is hurting (both physically and mentally), and because of that he hurts others via emotional manipulation and very harsh personal attacks. He's a genius doctor who is a workaholic, but in a twisted way and his workaholic tendencies often times come at other peoples' expense. He pushes away everyone who cares about him (and a lot lot lot of people genuinely do care about and love him). He just lashes out and hurts and hurts until it backfires on him, and then instead of growing and developing, he rinses and repeats. He's one of the few characters that actually ends his story basically in the same spot that he was in at the beginning. He does develop and change, but he always reverts back to his old tragic self. His selfishness causes him to lose his best friend (Wilson) on several occasions. One of the best things in the series imo is House and Wilson together. I don't ship them romantically but I see why people do LOL. House's other major flaw is being very obsessive and codependent on his friend. So back to the "reverse-tragedy" thing---House does not die. In fact, in true Sherlock Holmes fashion, he fakes his death. He fakes his death because that best friend he's super obsessed and codependent on, gets diagnosed with cancer (and it's ironic because Wilson is an oncologist) and has 5 months to live. And once again, House's selfishness lands him in a position where he is gonna go to jail for six months, meaning he won't be there for Wilson when he dies. So what does he do? He fakes his death. Tragic! But not traditionally. He fakes his death because he has literally lost every other option to live a normal life. He loses everyone in his life who cares about him, the one person he cares about the most dies before him, he is left with basically nothing. He refuses to cling to his redeemable qualities (people loving and caring about him unconditionally). He can never be a doctor again, he basically dies in the sense that his life is over, and everything and everyone around him dies. Also, this is one of the very few series I've ever read fanfiction for, and I read one really good one that covers Wilson's death and it wrecked me so. Good job fic writer.
Also I'm realizing all of these are men. How tragic. I do have fav female characters but not favored enough to make my top ten of like, everything though. Oof.
Again--THANK YOU FOR THIS I loved doing this a lot. I definitely welcome asks like this

Eddie and Ana had conflict before breaking up, sorry I'm not trusting these writers anymore, the writing in S5 is different and not in a good way and I can't explain why. It also doesn't help that Taylor has had next to no screentime at all. It would not surprise me if they break them up. Maybe I'm being negative but I tend to think I'm being realistic about the possibilities as well.
I swear if you’re even THINKING the word “copaganda” I’m literally going to scream.
Season 5 has been different because as of yet there has not been as much levity to break it up, and they started right off the bat with a bunch of deeply personal stories that were more important than the season-starting-emergency. We’re not even breaking up that emotional conflict with a bunch of other smaller emergencies, it was just a constant barrage of pain. But the writing itself, other than the Eddie stuff, is still just as good as previous seasons (excluding 4a because that sucked SO bad).
Also? Why WOULD Taylor get a bunch of screen time in an arc about the Grant-Nash family? None of the firefam got much either, so why would she?
Sure, there’s always a possibility something stupid is going to happen (Eddie’s entire arc is proof of that), but I really really don’t think they’re breaking BuckTaylor up.
And I’m sorry but I do have to disagree about eddiana having conflict. The ONLY “conflict” was Eddie proving how misogynistic he is by having panic attacks out of the blue, and then they broke up. That’s not conflict, that’s a plot device.
And frankly? Buck is a MUCH more important character than than Eddie is, which means his relationship is going to be more important to the overall show than Eddie’s was ever going to be. Which means a tease of a conflict is a really really good thing.
I’m honestly not worried

Time to Hate-Watch Turner and Hooch, Episode 5
Because I am bored. And I hate myself. Of you aren't ok with me hate-watching and commenting, well then this is not the post you are looking for. Please move along.
Ah, yes, reminder of the love triangle they put in a kids copaganda show for the parents. Again. Because reminder: they did that last week.
Ew, bad shaky camera work.
Oh god she was listening to that music as a personal stake out sound track by choice? Like, why?
"You're all hopped up on juice boxes and I don't like it." I did like that line.
Laura is 5 years old.
I do like the theme song.
You know what also is weird about this supposed kids show? The episodes are nearly 50 minutes long. No kid is going to pay attention to that long of an episode.
So much natural lighting and making Hooch very yellow in some scenes and not others.
I'm probably too tired to watch this tonight.
Honestly that poor girl. Such a big crush on a very oblivious dipshit.
Branden is a fucking gift to this show. Again, I am just so glad he kept acting after Power Rangers SPD. Not many former PRs stay in the business, let alone get steady work. I'm really proud of him!
Rain. This show must be filmed in Vancouver. Actually, I vaguely remember hearing it was shot there. ... (Googles)... Haha
Tumblr media
I mean, air cold enough mid-day to see their breath + rain had to = Vancouver. I mean I guess Portland too. But either way, California my ass.
Dreary natural lighting. Classic Vancouver. I can't believe anyone could actually think this would look like California.
Having Laura recognize a lot of people so that they could give her information to make her getting the information super easy is certainly a choice... by writers who don't want to work to hard. Then again, I think this is supposed to be a a family friendly show...kind of. Line, this isn't a straight up specific demographic this is targeted towards. They just have done a few things I absolutely would not put in a kids show this day and age. Like, it honestly so bizarre to watch.
I'm not fond of stories like this. Guy is getting married, all aspects of the case have a relation to weddings. It's just too much happenstance in this episode. And I'm tired, I should have very little ability to notice most of the is shit tonight.
Oh god, this would be so painful if I wasn't so sleepy. Like, what the fuck are you doing, Laura. Well, at least this is showing Lyndsy's versatility and expressiveness. My god this is such a different character then Alex on Nikita.
Tired sidenote, my watermelon is very good.
Laura gets up to leave after getting this woman to hang out with her. The woman has to remind her that she doesn't know where she lives. I liked that.
"Thank you for your never-ending aquatic references." Ok, this show does have some good lines.
(This is honestly like kind of watching Lucifer. I hat the show, but occasionally there are so lines that I really like. Though I did stop watching Lucifer because I just hated it too much. I was only watching it out of boredom.)
I am really glad that they have a Native guest star. It's nice to see more Native rep on shows the past couple years.
Messaging: Kids, you gotta stand up for other kids being bullied because you are just as bad as the bullies if you just stand there. I'm really ok with this messaging. Good job, so that I mostly don't like.
I'm sorry, I'm so tired.
"His name was Jean-Luc-" Me: stares at camera in 'Robert Duncan McNeill directed this episode and is the primary Executive Producer on this show.'
For those of you who don't know, RDM was Tom Paris in Star Trek Voyager and a character who's name I can't remember that he also played on Star Trek TNG.
Fun fact, Tom Paris was initially going to be the same character he played on TNG, but something about rights blah blah blah, made that a no-go.
Sorry, back to me hate-watching while tired.
Oh god there are 21 minutes left.
Why is Laura holding a guinea pig? And why does she have a karaoke machine?
Why is Branden's character having a romantic time with his fiance while on a case? Ugh, the unprofessionalism. Like, aren't they only a two hour drive from home? Why is this happening? Do they think of distance like the British? Or people who live in Saint Louis? (Seriously, in Saint Louis some people think 20 minutes is a long drive. Granted, ten minutes is a long drive for me, but the position I have to sit in to drive really aggravates my Interstitial Cystitis (meaning I have to pee so, so bad the whole time I am in the car)).
I want to take this moment to apologize. I am very sorry about the tangents and the personal health and whatnot. But at this point I'm too tired to go bad and delete things or care about what else I'm going to write, so I'm just going to keep going without my filter on. Of you make it through this whole thing with me, bless you you sweet, sweet, probably bored soul.
🎶Ooo Heaven is a place on earth 🎶
Oh god, so much tomato stuff. All over the bathroom. The very white bathroom. Good luck with that...Scott? Is that our main characters name? Scott? I don't care to look it up at th- yeah it's Scott, Laura just said it.
Uh, shouldn't that have been made of metal? Either way, shitty craftsmanship if the dog could break it that easily.
That can't be how you train a bomb sniffing dog.
No way someone who's been a police officer for a few years wouldn't know that there are drugs on literally every bill.
Again, family show why?
Neither of them thought there would be a back door?
This while thing is insane. Not in anyway that I find entertaining. But I'd probably be more pissed if I it was more conscious. You should probably be reading all of my angry sounding things as just very tired and a bit sedate because of the tiredness.
I'm sorry Branden's character was a soldier in combat and he's never been shot? Unless I'm misremembering. But seriously, he doesn't know what getting shot in the vest fells like.
Oh look, the girlfriend fires at vehicles driving towards her too. In the same episode..I hate when things are related like that. Not upper level writing.
Why was the Secret Service also looking for those people? What? That can't possibly be their preview.
(Before I finished the episode, I discovered that for the second time this week, I did not get to the litter box fast enough (as in since this morning) to prevent my cat from moving the liner enough to pee between it and the box. So, at 11pm I had to go clean that out.)
Like this guy wouldn't know that he was copping to extortion by saying that.
God, why are they making this case the dad was working on (stupid arching plot in a family tv show why? For the adults who can tell this show is bad already?) even more complicated? Like, is this going to get Heroes level stupidly complex? Because that shit killed that show. Ok, so it probably won't be that bad...just the kids show equivalent of that bad.
Oh good for you, girl who's name I never learned! Quit the job with the evil boss! Please let her be OH NATALIE! Once again, thank you Laura for saying the name of the character whose name I wasn't sure of. What was I saying... Of yeah, I hope Natalie comes back and wasn't just on one episode. More native characters on TV please!
Oh wait, am I just realizing the girls in the live triangle were both on Glee, or did I remember that in a previous post? I know they were both on Glee from the moment I saw them in this show, but, like, I somehow didn't realize it was a very mini Glee reunion when they were in the same scene?
Wait, where did Scott wash Hooch if it wasn't in his own place the first time? Where was that bathroom? Wait, unless this isn't the bathroom in him home? I was definitely too tired to watch this. That might be saving me on the anger level, but it's certainly making it a bit difficult to keep track of some stuff.
Oh bad edit/consistency moment with the foam on Scott's face. Always hating to me.
Episode over.
Closing Thoughts: This show is still driving me insane with it's not on point demographic aiming and just silliness that isn't really good-silly, more like bad-silly. Also, I'm tired.

SVU ranting
Law & order SVU. Problematic. Troubling. Copaganda. They STAY doing illegal things. I know this. WE know this. However let's discuss one of the other reasons why this shit is RANCID. OLIVIA & ELLIOT.
THIS FUCKING MAN- Tells her he's lost everything except for Olivia and the job, they both chose to save one another over catching a baddie and Stabler's all "This can't happen again Liv". So Olivia?? LEAVES. Asks for a transfer. GHOSTS HIM. DESK EMPTY. And he's in his FEELINGS. Then they start pairing him with "loose cannon" partners so he can maybe understand how shitty he HIMSELF is. THE IRONY. RIGHT. UGH.
THEN Olivia is back in SVU. Back as his partner for a coupla episodes before she gets pulled undercover. AND DISSAPEARS AGAIN. No messages. Just OUTIE. Is gone for months. COMES BACK, MEETS STABLER"S NEW PARTNER BECK, says she isn't ready to come back and asks for everyone to NOT tell Elliot that she's back.
The subterfuge. The bs. WHY are they no longer allowed to be around one another? This feels like midseasons of Supernatural when Cas always had a side mission or was perpetually hiding things from Dean. Why are they treating Olivia and Elliot like they are a queer couple!? He's had divorce papers for MULTIPLE SEASONS NOW and pretty sure they are still unsigned. How absolutely shitty to his EX and his 5 effing kids.
Now Beck is here. Her and Stabler have been butting heads as she settles into the squad. Liv stops by, leaves, "don't tell El" - and now Stabler is COMPLIMENTING Beck. AND THEY JUST FUCKING KISSED. WHAT IS GOING ON!?!?!! One night of drinks after MAYBE catching a murderer and suddenly fireworks? Feels like a Sims 3 romance. *Buy drink. Tell joke. Compliment. Compliment. Tell joke. Kiss*
Apparently the sheer masculine testosterone of one Elliot Stabler is too much for any female partners to handle, because they always end up doe eyed over this man who has 0 impulse control and massive anger issues and avoids emotions. This is SEASON 8! OLIVIA HAS BEEN OVERTLY IN LOVE WITH HIM FOR A MIIIIIIIINUTE.
Stabler's WIFE hints at being uncomfortable with their friendship/partnership in SEASON FUCKING ONE. EARLY SEASON ONE, and these are MINIMUM 23 episode seasons. ITS BEEN YEARS. AND NOW THEY WONT ALLOW THEM TO BE IN THE SAME ROOM!?!?!!
But at this point they are SO fucking toxic for one another. Their heads EMPTY when together. I legit don't want them to get together anymore. My WHOLE LIFE, watching SVU, watching marathons, heart eyed over Liv+El uwu. But in actuality watching it all??? HATE.
The fact that then Elliot LEAVES SVU and the US suddenly in just a few years is now just fucking hilarious. Olivia set this precedent! Second time not necessarily her choice. First time??? She was working in what appears to be the SAME BUILDING. Cleans out her desk, tells NO ONE, till Elliot visits computer crimes for a case! His EXPRESSION when he walked in and saw her?! LMAOOO. Like 2 episodes later. He basically says he cares too much and she goes "tight. Outie". Now she is BACK IN TOWN and GHOSTING HIM. Damn straight Eliot leaves the fucking country. STAY GONE BRUV. Also HOW DO YOU SPELL HIS NAME OMFG.
Dani Beck? Family life is SO MUCH PAIN. (Her husband was a cop who was shot during a routine pull over. Throws herself into her work to avoid EVERYTHING)
Omfg. Then Ice T as Fin. His family life is so much pain. (Estranged from son who is gay, which is storyline important whenever they need a gay man in the city get info from. Don't even get me started on his ex wife and Ludacris. I had to turn that episode off. Couldn't do it!)
John Munch? Family life is SO MUCH PAIN. (His dad committed suicide when he was 9, his Uncle becomes so depressed he develops temporary dementia???, goes on antidepressants, enters a manic state and pushes a dude in front of a train who MAYBE was gonna get away with some horrible crimes, is institutionalized where he decides to NEVER medicate himself and instead slip back into dementia and not knowing who he is or remembering his nephew.)

I am once again watching the Turner & Hooch series on Disney plus. And once again, I am asking what demographic they are making this idiotic show for.
All of this stuff with the dog is so unrealistic, it is keeping me from throwing believability out the window.
Murder plots on a ... kid's show? I mean, like I said, no idea who this show is for.
I love this Olympic tie-in that makes no sense. Other than that this is around the time of the Olympics. Brilliant.
This show is just such a weird vibe that I can't put my finger on.
These people are obviously not English.
"Mommy [I swear to God she did not say at least mummy] went to go live with her tennis teacher because he was a good listener." WHAT THE FUCK IS THE TARGET AGE OF THIS SHOW?!
Also, this kid, even though she has the face for acting (detailed), she is practically reciting these lines that demonstrate she's alone. It's lacking a bit more heart. Disney usually finds child actors that are better with their delivery, but maybe she did the most satisfying English accent for them?
OH WAIT THAT'S BRANDON JAY MCLAREN! Glad to see he still works. I will always remember him from:
Tumblr media
(he's the red ranger)
Bad blood effect would make you think this show is for kids. But then then hit the kidnapped agent (McLaren) and have semi automatics that they shoot in the next scene. I don't get this.
Oh wow. I did not expect them to say "The Olympics is all about money" in this show. Again, who was supposed to hear this, adults or kids?
Indicating they are going to threaten a kid.
I'm guessing this show is literally made for parents to watch with their kids. They are just doing it wrong. And I'm not fond of copaganda being made for kids.
Is an Olympic committee member a diplomat?
He should have slipped his shoes back on. That's two seconds.
Wait, a hostage situation in a hotel...I've never seen Die Hard. But, I have a feeling this a Die Hard plot rip-off plot.
"Yippy, Kai's in trouble." Fucking. Called it. He's even got the John McLane look:
Tumblr media
"There's some dangerous about him" Please tell me they ripped off this line.
So this is, Die Hard meets Turner & Hooch. Not an AU crossover I expected.
I need a Die Hard fan to watch this episode and let me know how many references were in this.
Well, I guess this is supposed to be a kids show, since the guy who fell four stories and landed on his back is still alive and groaning in pain. And this other guy could have easily show McLaren's character in the head.
These guns clearly aren't firing. They didn't even bother to CGI muzzle flare. Weird fucking kids' show, man.
Oh there we go, muzzle flare. Maybe I missed it before. Certainly no recoil though.
PLEASE TELL ME MCLAREN COMES BACK! He did a fantastic job and i really like his character!
She can't knight anyone, she would know that, and it's probably some sort of insult to the Queen or something. I mean, fuck the royals, I'm just thinking a Brit would think it's an insult.
Ahh, yes, money doesn't really exist on a Disney show. Complain about it, then give in an buya $929 stroller.
This is absolutely even more insane than I thought. See this guy?
Tumblr media
This is Reginald VelJohnson. Yes, he is surprising his role from the movie. But he also was Al Powell from the Die Hard movies. Holy fuck. Like...what the fuck Disney?
The sister's going to get kidnapped at some point this season, right? Because she's actually going to go on this mystery and find something that she shouldn't find?
I guess I'll find out. God why am I watching this? Maybe because I find it's demographic bouncing to be very bizarre? I don't know.
