Unpopular opinion: i want the nicassia book I NEED IT. Why would the book be from jurdan’s pov if it’s going to be about the undersea…. It doesn’t make sense. And if you hate nicassia… she deserves a development guys. Some of you need to lay back on jurdan. WE LOVE THEM YES but there are so many amazing characters besides them.

It never hit me that Cardan and Nicasia were actually engaged until I read your post analyzing their relationship. I know they had plans, but I didn't realize it was an official engagement. Do you think when Nicasia asked Cardan to come back to the Undersea with her, it was her way of proposing? If not, which one do you think proposed and how?

Proposing in the faerie world is very different from the mortal world. The fae don't kneel on one knee and pull out a diamond ring. Because Cardan and Nicasia are part of their own royal bloodline the moment they started a serious romantic relationship was the moment it was expected of them to someday be married to be the King and Queen of the Undersea. Since Cardan wasn’t at all favored in Elfhame, it was clear that he would someday rule the sea with his then-lover Nicasia, who is the only heir to Queen Orlagh’s throne. Both Nicasia and Cardan fully embraced that someday they would be married and rule together. All of Elfhame and the Undersea expected it to happen, it would have been a useful peace treaty between land and sea.

Nicasia and Cardan becoming lovers was an automatic engagement for them both. They didn't go through the typical courting process and there was no formal proposal like the one between Cardan and Jude in TWK. Neither of them proposed to each other, since Cardan was the Prince of Elfhame and Nicasia the Princess of the Undersea then it was an automatic engagement. The moment they became lovers, they also became engaged.

Even in the 5th chapter of The Stolen Heir, when Hyacinthe talks to Wren about Oak’s seductive powers, he goes on to mention Nicasia as Cardan’s former betrothed.

“Oaks half brother [Locke] is said to have made both Jude and her twin, Taryn, his lovers and stolen Cardan’s former betrothed [Nicasia] from his side”

(the stolen heir, chap 5, pg 93)

When I first read this quote last year, I was like, "Hold up…they were betrothed to each other?" but it obviously makes sense that they were.

Yes, Nicasia and Cardan had plans, and they spoke to each other about what they're future would be like. When Nicasia asked Cardan to join her and go away with her to the Undersea I believe that was also her way of just wanting him by her side (Reminder: Nicasia doesn't like Elfhame, she sees everything there beneath her, and she was very much in love in cardan....in her own way) and no, that wasn't her way of proposing, because once again, they were already engaged to each other. Hope that helps.

I can’t believe Taryn betrayed Jude even after the whole Undersea shit went down. Your sister was tortured everyday for a over month, you saw all of what it did to her, and you still decide to hurt her even further? As if she hasn’t already gone through enough??

And to do it only to potentially be the most favored by their father?

My headcanons for the crew’s music taste 👍

GILLION:

i think he’d like something upbeat that feels good. so probably ABBA.

CHIP:

seems like he’d claim to like heavy metal to seem cool but probably listens to ABBA.

JAY:

wants some good tunes to keep her focused while she works on projects. i think ABBA would be good for that.

GRIFFIN:

after all that monster hunting, he probably wants something relaxing. like ABBA.

ALPHONSE:

with likely a whole database of music in him, he has a wide variety of options. so he’d probably go with ABBA.

late night riptide sadness

i just want everyone to know that if chip never experienced the devastating events of losing his found family to a black hole in the sea as a child and feeling so devastated by it that he tries to recreate his old crew with new people and try so so desperately to find the black rose pirates

jay would've never left the navy. she would've been stuck in a corrupt system that she's always had a hatred for because she didn't have the strength to leave and never had that one guy show up and encourage her to leave everything behind and lead her own life

gillion tidestrider would be all alone. he never feels like he belongs in the oversea because he doesn't understand anything and nobody is willing to teach him and he will never be able to return to his home in the undersea due to be exiled. it's likely that he dies alone, scared, and outcasted.

if chip never experienced one of the greatest pains of his life, his best friends and platonic soulmates would've never gotten to take control of their own lives and be happy. they would've eternally suffered.

chip had to suffer for a decade and continues to suffer from the trauma of the black hole in the sea in order for his friends to be happy. and in return, they help him move through it. they help him work through a decade of hurt because he saved their lives.

to add onto that; that little old town would forever be cursed and old man earl would've never gotten to experience the world. oliver teach would've grown up in a navy controlled zero and would've never gotten to experience what life can be outside of his home town. queen would've never found real friends who encourage him to do his best. captain lizzie and the grandberry pirates would be fighting a lost cause against the navy without the riptide pirates quite literally causing a riptide on outlaw soil and starting a revolution. desire island would still all be stone and be under the enchantress's spell (also the girls serving her would've never been free). drey would've died at the hands of his brother in an eternal prison and finn would forever be a bird, not even fully aware of what he was before.

good ole chip bastard saved hundreds, if not thousands, of people DIRECTLY and he will still never feel good enough. he will still never feel like he's as great as his old crew was and will always feel like he's letting them down in some way, shape, or form. he will never feel good enough, even though he and his crew are the heroes in hundreds of people's stories.
