Some of these are my absolute favourites, I've lost count of how many times I've read them. I cannot get enough of "the bright falls series", "One the same page", "Those who wait", "The secret of you and me" and the last entry "Falls From Grace". No matter how many times I read them. And sometimes I wish I could read them again, as if for the first time, if that makes sense. Anyway, I have a lot more titles. Let me know if you want them or not. Enjoy the reading

This past summer, I did a print run of the first part of the series, Sit Tight, Take Hold and printed 94 copies for charity. Many readers asked for books 2 & 3, and I had many others express interest in a 3-part bundle who missed the first run. I've spent November, December, and January prepping the next parts for print, and I'm so excited to share them with you.

So, what is included?

Where are the proceeds going?

Rainbow Railroad is a North American-based organization that works globally to ensure safety and asylum to LGBTQIA+ individuals. This is the same charity we donated to last time, and it was a resounding success. Last time, we were able to fundraise $1,600!

How much does shipping cost?

For US residents, bundles will cost a flat fee of $10. They will ship via media mail through USPS.

For anyone outside of the US, shipping has been estimated through the cheapest carrier, either USPS or UPS minus $10. Unfortunately, I cannot control the cost of shipping, and I know that it is extraordinarily high. The bundles will weigh anywhere between 4-6+ lbs, which is expensive to ship.

Wait, I'm from the US. Why am I paying more for Media Mail?

While Media Mail typically would cost $4-6, the increased price is to offset international orders, whose shipping will cost anywhere from $20-60 with the discount. I hope you understand. I want to make this as accessible as I can without personally eating any costs. I am not making any profit off of this project.

When do orders ship?

Once pre-orders close on 3/13, I will order the books. There is typically a 2-4 week turn around for them to be printed and delivered to me. I then have to package and ship everything from my house. I hope to have everything shipped 1 month after pre-orders close, but I am only human.

US mail should take 2-8 days. International orders can take anywhere from 2-4 weeks, so please be patient.

If you are only ordering a damaged copy or postcards, both of which have already been printed, I will ship those out sooner.

When do I get my PDFs?

The PDFs and book proofs are the same, and they are 90% done. PDFs will be delivered via email by me once pre-orders close. I am still doing small changes and edits to make sure they are perfect!

If I order a bundle, do I also need to order PDFs if I want digital copies?

NO! PDFs are included with the bundles and only the bundles. You will not have access to them immediately, only once pre-orders close and I email them to you! Like I said, they are 90% finished, and I am stilling making small adjustments. (Kerning, I loathe you!)

What percent of proceeds are going to Rainbow Railroad?

100%! This excludes the cost of printing and shipping. For reference, the first print run cost $1,254 for the books alone, not including shipping and packaging supplies. Anything remaining goes directly to charity. I am not keeping any costs for labor or making any profit on this.

Wait, there's bonus content?

Remember when I said I was done after the trilogy? Well, @tut557 popped into the Discord server and said, 'Hey, what if they played Mario Kart...' This spiraled into a long conversation about all the different media promos they might do, and then I spent this past November writing another 50k of the #RAINBOWROAD universe for NaNoWriMo. 1000: Prologue

Eric’s always been pretty ordinary. He’s a pretty skinny guy, relatively short, with cute features, floppy brown hair, and a beard. He grew up in a quiet suburb outside of Cincinnati, went to a pretty okay school, and headed off to the local college with a bunch of his classmates. He’d hoped that college would be where he could blossom, come out, and be himself, but instead it’s been more of the same closeted life. He keeps his head down and tries to stay out of the way of all the big guys at school.

It’s the start of summer, early June, and Eric and some of his friends go to Philadelphia for a concert. During the day, Eric roams the city and walks into a thrift shop on the side of the street. It’s one of those stores that feels bigger on the inside, a maze of infinite narrow aisles full of knickknacks, baubles, and the occasional treasure. For a while, Eric explores the store, and finally finds himself in front of a table holding only one item.

It’s a large box, a big square like you might keep a card collection in, but when Eric tries to open it, the lid won’t budge. Instead, moving the box reveals a sheet of yellowing paper on the table underneath it. Eric picks it up.

Congratulations, Eric. It reads. You are the recipient of the 1000 cards. Each week, you will draw three cards and choose one. This card will define how you change in the week that follows. Choose wisely.

Eric looks around, wondering if there are any cameras monitoring him, but the store is deserted. Holding the box, he goes to the front desk to ask about it, but the clerk claims never to have seen it. Eric gives her $5 anyway and heads home with the box.

For the rest of the trip, he thinks about it, wonders what the message could have possibly meant. He wonders if he should ask some of his friends, but he’s not actually that close with any of them, and anyway the 1000 cards seem like something that should be kept secret. Every night, he tries again to open the deck, but finds it still resistant. He even tries to open it with scissors and a knife, but the lid seems impermeable.

The next Saturday night, Eric’s pretty much given up. “Look at me,” he laughs to himself. “It’s Saturday night in summer and I’m sitting in my dorm trying to open a damn box.” He goes and pours himself a bowl of late night cereal in his kitchenette.

When he comes back, the lid of the box is open. Inside are rows upon rows of cards, their faces hidden. Eric finds himself looking around again for hidden cameras, but all he feels is a tingle of potential in the air.

With shaking hands, Eric draws three cards. Their backs are covered in beautiful interlocking geometric patterns, while the faces have drawings on them, like an immense deck of tarot cards.

On the face of the first card is a peach. Well, it looks mostly like a peach. Something about the way the lines of the peach flow together with the tan background make it seem as if the card depicts a round, juicy ass. It looks like it would jiggle with the slightest motion, and looking at it makes Eric feel... hungry.

On the face of the second card is a banana. Something about the way it’s drawn makes it look huge and tantalizing, and Eric’s mouth starts to water. It’s almost perfectly straight and thick, jutting proudly forth from the card. Right at the base of the banana, which is pointing up, it’s been peeled slightly open, and what looks like a drop of glaze or icing sits right on the point of the flesh.

On the face of the third card is a fruit that Eric’s only seen a few times. It’s small, egg-shaped, and covered in hairlike strands. A rambutan, Eric remembers. The hairs don’t just seem to cover the fruit in the art, though, but spread, thick and dark, all over everything on the card. They’re so long and curly, and somehow they look just a little damp, like water’s getting trapped in them.

Holding the cards in his hand, Eric looks up to see the clock. It’s 11:59, almost midnight. Somehow, he senses that he only has a moment to choose what card to take.

Drake's Birthday Celebration!

We have set Drake's birthday celebration for August and hope you'll join us with fics, drabbles, artwork and more! Special thanks to @aussiegurl1234 for the graphic!

The event will take place from August 1st through August 12th of 2023.

RULES:

All mediums accepted! Fanfiction, fan art, mood boards, HC's, whatever you've got!

Must be themed/centered around Drake's birthday and present him positively.

The deadline is 11:59 p.m. CST on August 12th, 2023.

A couple of important points:

The event is in August, but you may place his birthday in whatever month you HC it is!

Throwbacks featuring Drake's birthday are more than welcome!

We know his birthday, much like most of the PB timeline is nebulous so for anyone interested, here's the thought process about its placement, under the cut:

I think it’s common knowledge that PB’s timeline is total crap.

MC is told that the social season is a “few months” long, but if you follow the actual time stops given in the stoy…. “the next day…”, “a few days later…” etc, then the timeline is two and half weeks-ish. It’s like day 11 by time stops when MC is told that the season is “more than half over” despite the season being several months long. The Apple Blossom Festival is immediately after this, and Drake’s birthday happens during it.

We obviously can’t depend on anything about this timeline to tell us when his birthday falls.

Instead, we can look at the timeline that the actual social season in England follows. There is ample proof that plenty of the details of how royalty and the social season work in TRR are based on England, so this feels like a good option.

Besides, they left us no choice but to figure it out on our own, so any method you chose to use is valid since this is fiction. I personally did a deep dive into the social season in England both historically and in modern times.

The social season is four months long, starting in early April and ending on the Twelfth of August aka the start of the shooting season.

Applewood and the Apple Blossom Festival happen just before the Beaumont Bash, which is canonically the last official event of the social season. Therefore, I place the bash in the first half of August. MC drives from the festival events at Applewood directly to Ramsford so we can assume those activities take place at the end of July or beginning of August.

The next clue comes with the very title of this festival: Apple Blossom Festival. It’s not a harvest festival, so it doesn’t take place in the fall. (Apples are typically harvested in the last week of August and September, some even later, which is after the social season concludes at any rate.)

Apples blossom from early spring to late summer depending on the variety of apple. Most blossom in April or May but since the festival takes place at the end of the season, we have to assume that the Cordonian Ruby is a late-blooming variety. A very late blooming variety. (This is possible because when they bloom has more to do with the temperature of the region than the time of year. Since there was skiing and ice skating in April, we can assume it stays cold there well into spring.)

In conclusion, based on all of the above, I feel confident that Drake’s birthday falls somewhere at the end of July or in the first half of August.

That said, I’m not here to gatekeep anyone's HC’s so with that in mind, even though the event is in August, you may place Drake’s birthday whenever you like in your story. Put it in February, put it in October. The important part is that you have fun with it. That’s it.

Green Lantern Volume 3 #59 by Ron Marz, Darryl Banks, Romeo Tanghal, Steve Mattsson & Albert De Guzman is my second most important Comfort Food Comic. I couldnt even hazard a guess how many times I’ve read this one. To me its the best issue of the entire Marz Kyle Rayner run. It blends everything I could want in a comic: Christmas, classic superheroics, slice of life, 90s DCcharacter cameos, romance, inspiration – it has it all!

Kyle Rayner is my favorite DC Comics character. He’s almost like a real life friend to me. But before I get into all of that let me flashback to the early Oughts. After a long hiatus, I've returned to being a comics fan. Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2, J. Michael Straczynski and John Romita Jr.'s Spider-Man comics as well as Ultimate Spider-Man were the siren call that brought me back in as a fan circa 2004. Brian Bendis’ monthly New Avengers really stoked the flames and that's when comics became my life permanently. Up until then, I’d been a Marvel only guy. I didn't care much for DC and I found it all super confusing and hard to get into. My oldest brother (RIP Steve!), who I've never really been super close with, started chatting me up about comics one day and started describing Sandman and the further Vertigo stuff he loved. I visited him and he let me borrow all of the Sandman collections he owned and described the DC stuff he was into in such a hyped up, magical way. I was entranced! I fell in love. Sure, most of this content was Vertigo stuff, but it was all blooming from this huge mythic DC Universe. I decided to read all comics, not just Marvel from then on. I started picking up all the big DC Comic essential collections: Swamp Thing, JLA, all the main Batman stories, Crisis on Infinite Earths, Kingdom Come and so on and so on as I started college. I was a real DC Comics rookie. Life was good. I was in a relationship with a girl I fell head over heels with in high school. I was growing up, starting college and really becoming comfortable with who I was and my identity. Exploring this new DC Universe while also exploring all the world had to offer went hand in hand. But graduation hit and lot of change happened very fast. Let me tell you, I don't deal well with change. I decided to dorm to start college – I moved back home after 2 weeks I hated it so much. This new real love of mine moved and went to college an hour and a half away. College was rocky. I went for English as I was completely clueless as to what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I was always somewhat of a writer so I figured that was as good a start as any. I could only take one English course for my degree while I also had to struggle through stats, astrology, art history & Polish. College started to become something I loathed. My only reprieve was reading more and more comics. I found myself skipping a lot and taking trips to Borders Bookstore to check out the comic books there. One such book I find while skipping school and spending my morning at Borders is Green Lantern: Emerald Twilight/New Dawn.

I WAS HOOKED! I sat in that Borders for an hour or two reading the entire book and immediately buying it. This was it. I had found my ideal entry point into DC Comics through this new everyman Kyle Rayner. No longer was I just a guy who was reading all the main collections DC put out, confused as to who's who or wondering why people loved Hush or The Long Halloween so much(great art but terrible stories!). I was FINALLY invested in its universe. I was determined to jump into it and read everything I possibly could. The wonderful thing about this run is Kyle is new to everything, so when you read his comic you get an intro into the DC Universe from that same point of view.

Flash forward to Summer 2007. I've finished my first year of college, barely. My girlfriend, love of my life, breaks up with me. The distance, the immaturity, the lack of real life relationship experience, doomed it. I find myself utterly heartbroken. I find the path I’ve taken in life to be entirely unsatisfying. I spend most of this summer drunk every night, trying to hide from reality. My one healthy escape is comics. In August I read the Sinestro Corps Special and seeing that last page, become a converted monthly release buyer of DC Comics. Green Lantern becomes just about my favorite thing DC publishes. We move to September and school starting up again. I could barely muster enough energy to get out of bed in the morning, let alone go back to school. I'm told I need to take a mandatory religion class or I wont graduate. My spirit is just about broken. Before I know it, I end up skipping about 3 straight weeks of school. I lie to everyone around me and end up at various bookstores, reading comics or scoping out any DC Direct figures I can find. I'm still drinking heavily. I am suffering from full depression and I start to hate my life. My school had caught on and I either had to do some insane turnaround or I was getting kicked out. I at this point had pretty much realized college wasn't for me. It hadn't done a single thing to help me. It didn't put me on any type of path or give me any skills or help to find the career I wanted. It made me take mandatory bullshit classes and depressed me daily. I made the terrifying decision to drop out. I had to. My mental health was at an alltime low. Even comics couldn't cheer me up anymore. I felt like I had nothing left to live for. My life was a blur and I didn't even feel like I was in it anymore. Soon after I hit rock bottom. I remember it was a Sunday afternoon. My friends had been busy, everyone had stuff going on. I tried to read some X-Force and I ended up throwing the book across the room. I tried to play some Metal Gear Solid 3 and I just couldn't even do anything. I left the house and went to Media Play where I ended up buying some Resident Evil action figures. I felt nothing. I was joyless. Normally all these activities combined is a perfect day for me. At this point, I had put a mini fridge in my bedroom. Yikes! Talk about enabling my problem. I came back home, slumped into bed and drank as many Budweisers as I could. The next thing I remember is my Mom waking me up late the next morning. I had vomited all over the place in my sleep. My bed, my sheets, my floor – just about my whole room was covered in puke. I had either blacked out or done it while I slept. My Mom was concerned, I was shocked. Disgusting. I had hit rock bottom. My life was lost to depression. I needed to fight back. I needed to turn my life around. I needed to be happy again.

Cut to mid October. I reach out to my friends and family. I tell them I need to make changes. I resolve to live life on my terms. I resolve to be happy. I resolve to never let life rule over me. I will only be living by my choice and my joy from now on. I start to work full time at my family’s Construction Company. I turn back to comics for that joy and it helps. Sinestro Corps War is in full swing and its here that I find that love again. I hop on the internet and order or download every Kyle Rayner comic I can find. Continuing from the New Dawn tpb I start devouring Kyle’s adventures. Its here my life changed for the better. Sure, the absence of the college burden and the support of friends helped but Kyle Rayner SAVED me. I don't say that lightly. Being able to hop into this run of comics featuring a guy just like me at his own crossroads of life, dealing with some tragedy and resolving not to be depressed and soldier on as a hero really resonated with me. It was exactly the piece of media I needed that hit at the exact time it needed to. I know its corny but this run of comics is that important to me. It sparked joy in my life again. It helped me move on. It helped me finally reclaim my life back and be ME again.

I cant think of an issue that better sums up my whole experience working in synch with Kyle Rayner than issue 59. Kyle recently has had the responsibility of being Green Lantern thrust upon him. He’s lost the love of his life, his place in the world and had to deal with innumerable changes to what he considered normal. Instead of letting any of that keep him down, he fights on, dealing with the insanity of Zero Hour and ending up embroiled in a Titans Crossover. Its there he joins the team and starts reaching out to others again. He tries to move on and moves into a new apartment and starts to foster a relationship with Donna Troy. Its here our issue starts on Christmas Eve night as Kyle makes his way to Titans HQ for Monitor Duty. All the various Titans interact with him, letting him know he doesnt have to be alone. They give him a friend group, a family if he wishes it. ( We get some great Impulse moments in here!!)

Kyle meets up with Donna Troy who is also there. Besides Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson, Kyle Rayner & Donna Troy are my favorite comic book relationship ever. I absolutely adore the little touches put into them getting to know each other here. It’s all done so organically and it's incredibly relatable. The start of something special. What makes it even better is how its all framed by Christmas, the best Holiday ever. I absolutely go crazy for Christmas. Everything about it makes me overjoyed. Having it be a part of this issue really makes it something special.

Its next we see how bad it can be when someone is alone and sad. Kyle unfortunately has his own dark subconscious thoughts manifest themselves through the ring in a heartbreaking version of his deceased girlfriend, Alex. Its so godamn sad. Again, parallel to my own journey in life; even a superhero isnt safe from these things. Its stuff like this that makes this run so special. You can really identify with Kyle’s struggles. Its an utterly human take on superhero comic books.

After helping a volunteer Santa from some thugs, Kyle sets out on patrol to help and clear his mind. Its here we get the best message. This is the powerful stuff that sticks with me. Life may be chaos. Kyle and me may have been in such a dark place, guessing at it day by day. But instead of thinking we are idiots, instead of sitting and wallowing in it, we both need to go do something. This was what I needed to hear at that point in my life. This was what endeared me so much to Kyle. His personal journey mirrored my own. I could live and grow side by side with him as I read. This stuff was an inspiration

Its here Kyle helps put a stop to Dr. Polaris and starts to realize life isn't all bad.

We then end the issue with Kyle going back to Titans HQ where Donna has come back to see him and give him a Christmas gift. The gift ends up being mistletoe and they kiss under it as the issue ends. OH MY GOD!! It just makes my heart swell up like the Grinch. It fills me with such joy.

So why is this comic special, why does it matter? Its an inspiration. It quite literally, saved my life and along with the rest of this run put me on a better, happier path. I owe a great deal to the power of this story. This comic shows how each comic can hit and affect people differently. It goes to show the power of stories. How they matter and help people. This comic is special in so many different ways. There would be no Dave Shevlin without this comic. My mental health would be a mess without this. And hey before I end this, Kyle Rayner is right. You cant wallow in depression. You NEED to live life for you. You need to find people, love and happiness. Things will always get better but you have to work at it and move past the challenges. I'm living proof of it. I lived through this dark time in my life. I still work at the same company, deeply ingrained with a comfortable living wage. I reconnected with that past love and after a decade of being together, she is my wife. I own a house and an amazing dog with that girl. I have never once let depression get ahold of me since. I kept that vow and live life authentically for my happiness. For anyone reading this, please dont ever let life beat you down too much. I know its sometimes almost impossible but please Live, and live happy.

But even on the battlefield, love can bloom... or hijinks can happen, friendships be made or broken, the most unlikely people meet from across 10,000 years of war-torn history...!

This summer exchange is a low-pressure Warhammer 40,000-themed fic and art exchange, running from mid-May to August 5, 2023, and welcomes all character- and relationship-driven fanfiction and fanart featuring characters from Warhammer 40,000 and the Horus Heresy series.

Participants who sign up agree to write a story of no less than 500 words, or to create a piece of fan art that is at minimum clean, finished line art on unlined paper that can stand as a completed work, in exchange for receiving one story or one piece of fan art.

The Basics

Hitman Summer Bonus Missions is a fest for the Hitman fandom to create and share fanworks set during or inspired by the bonus missions of Hitman World of Assassination.

You can pick one (or more, or all!) of the twelve open-ended prompts for the missions. There is no minimum wordcount. Art is welcome.

What is a fest?

A fest is a challenge in which participants create works that fit the theme of the challenge.

Is this a gift exchange?

No, but you can gift your fanwork to someone if you think they would like it.

Fanworks

Minimum Requirements

There is no minimum wordcount. The work needs to be complete and qualify as a fanwork on AO3.

Works need to fit the theme of the claimed mission prompt.

Works need to be newly published for this fest and created by you. AI-generated works are not allowed.

Posting

In order to post, go to your AO3 claims page and click the "fill" button on your claimed prompt. That will take you to a new-works form with the prompt already tickied.

Tagging

Make sure to tag your prompt fills correctly. This means not only remember to add the mission tag, but also, please choose the correct relationship tag if necessary.

A/B is for romantic or sexual interactions, A & B is for platonic or familial interactions. Don't tag both unless your work is deliberately ambiguous.

Deadline

There is no hard deadline, but work reveals are on August 25th, and creator reveals are on August 31st. You can add your works after that, but the anon period is part of the fun!

You may add (more) prompt fills after reveals!

Anonymity

Works are anonymous until creator reveals, the Thursday after work reveals.

You may add your work to the anon collection if you wish to stay anonymous even after creator reveals.

Additional Prompt Fills

You can claim as many prompts as you want, and each prompt can be claimed multiple times.

Be friendly!

Make sure that your fanworks do not contain any hostile elements towards people you disagree with in any part of the fanwork (title, tags, summary, author's notes, body text). Refrain from adding DNI notes.

If you shame or harass other participants, or if there are signs that you have deliberately caused problems in multiple exchanges, the mod will delete your signup.

Meisen Summer Kimono with Rabbits and Scouring Rushes Japan, Showa period, c. 1930s (1939?) plain-weave machine-spun silk in unraveled ikat (hogushi-gasuri) dimensions: 59 7/8 × 47 in. (152.1 × 119.4 cm)

"This playful pattern of white rabbits and scouring rushes - stiff plants used for polishing has a long history in Japanese art. The design suggests the rabbits are gnawing the rushes to grind down their teeth, symbolizing self-improvement and industriousness. Here, however, the classical composition has been modernized and stylized. This kimono might have been created in 1939, the Year of the Rabbit. It was likely made as a young girl's ceremonial garment for the New Year's celebration, and then tailored into a summer kimono."
