Husband and marriage...
Have I actually ever put much thought into being a good husband? I’ve married and divorced twice. That’s a pretty good indication that I didn’t make good partner decisions and didn’t do what was needed to keep a marriage happy.
The first marriage i wanted to call off the month before because it didn’t feel like the path I needed. I let pride and the inability to make a tough decision get in my way. After all the invitations were already sent out. I knew better and didn’t make the decision. Even the easiest of divorces is devastating mentally.
The second marriage was more out of necessity to ensure that my first born was raised in a two parent home. It was easy to love my son and it was normal to know what to do in order to provide for him and his mother. But the love wasn’t there. In my mind it was child first and wife second. After all, I didn’t really chose her to build my life with. I let my sexual desires and loneliness drive me to make bad decisions. I knocked up a woman I would have never introduced to my family, then ended up creating two wonderful people with her.
Have I ever sat back and thought about what would it take to be an amazing husband? Or even what would it take to be an amazing boyfriend?
After these two horrific failures I have continued to make mistakes by saying I would never marry again, which in turn keeps me from asking myself what it takes to be a wonderful partner in life. I want to search for life and love, but am I searching for the right part of life and love?
What does it mean to me to be a wonderful life partner. Why would i even think I could build a life with someone right now?
