They’re crafted with contemporary language and settings, even when set in fantastical worlds, making them more immediately accessible to today’s children than the sometimes archaic language and unfamiliar settings of ancient myths" which ???? Yes Lord of the Rings, infamously written with accessible language.

This is the same guy who wrote a post about how we no longer produce the same caliber of intellectuals as... and then listed off 15 people, all white, 1 woman, and two Georges, so I honestly think he may have been cryogenically frozen for a few decades and they thawed him out to write terrible thinkpieces.

i’m still crying over ephemer that’s the thing. parted ways with all his new friends and was left behind with his longest-standing ones. then one of them turned on him and he had to kill them. he sent them through a portal just to get them away. ephemer never got to learn the truth that this was all staged he really thought his best friend’s final act was falling to darkness and nearly killing him and skuld. and he had to kill them with his own hands hhhh and we see him crying multiple times afterwards hhhhhhh

and then he gets separated from even skuld and wakes up all alone in the ruins of his home with nothing left no one who knows him and the responsibility falls to him to rebuild the world. can you just imagine him having to take a moment in that floating pod to just break down and sob quietly for a good long while. i’m gonna be sick

and like we know he goes on to live a long and prosperous life and he leaves behind a grand legacy but all the while those holes in his heart probably never heal. he’s regarded as the brilliant and strong town founder with an incredible charm to him and he’s everyone’s hero but he’s dealing with so much trauma underneath it all that he has to bury. like the records of him that survive are the ones painting him as someone so brave and talented and important but they never knew the true face behind this historical figure. his own personal life must have been pain but he had to put it aside for everyone else’s sake. missing link please come and destroy me already

Making sparda an overbearing, dominating figure with a soft spot for family and general neutrality on humans is good but i think super happy funtime guy sparda who is incredibly enamored with his family and outwardly super duper nice (almost appearing and sometimes is naive or gullible) to humans but when alone or pushed in just the right way he morphs into that nearly cruel and dark figure he was considered long ago is better. :)

-snaps fingers- uhhhhh, the like first post where i was still in the process of pondering the Ancients at all i pointed at the mask culture specifically, but tumblr on desktop is an asshole so i can't find it rn

but basically: the golden masks are ritual masks. masks for religious purposes and such, so only those who are dedicated to the religion one way or the other + are wealthy enough to afford a golden bone mask own the murals™ masks. even Three Sparrows' golden mask isn't actually properly made, it was carved by one of her siblings from wood n then painted gold (so aye, she does own one, just not a proper one)

common mask, that everyone has to wear no matter their hierarchy/wealth/religion position because of the fucked up too-oxygen-rich air, are rebreather masks

when i draw my Ancients without neither a golden mask or a rebreather mask, it implies they are in a safe environment to put those things down. homes have air filtration built in so one could actually eat and comfortably sleep without something on their face constantly glued on and Sparrows gets to enjoy the luxury of taking off a mask safely in Euros' puppet chamber because he filters out the air for her sake

i've opened the old post with it, but it's really interesting n funny (/sad) to me that we as audience that comes in after the apocalypse think and accept the golden masks as the very basic norm for their culture because the Iterator city dwellers' art is the best preserved glimpse we get into their past, even though the opposite is more likely
