blerd!ony…💭
been wanting to write about my sweetheart + I needed something self indulgent today so here we are! 🩷
══✿══╡°˖✧✿✧˖°╞══✿══ ══✿══╡°˖✧✿✧˖
you never really liked talking anime or nerd culture with men!…a strange thought but a true one nonetheless. It was always one exhausting conversation after the next. From being giving random pop quizzes about this series or a lecture about how that one doesn’t measure up to the solidified greats. That was until you met blerd!ony…the gentle, kindhearted cashier in the store you frequented on a daily basis. Blerd!ony, who recognized the t-shirt you were wearing immediately from that very obscure yet classic anime you loved so much, became absolutely ecstatic to talk to you from that day on. The tall, gorgeous male with a smile like the stars, the most beautiful complexion you’ve ever seen and a voice like honey had given you even more of a reason to gush over him. “You gotta give me your top five right now. I always see your keychains and shit. You got good taste..” you were a bit hesitant because this was always the point where things went left but blerd!ony surprised you by praising your choices and even saying he’d check out the ones you’d put him on to. blerd!ony, who had a sleeve full of video game themed tattoos took pride in showing off his pieces when you happened to catch him outside on smoke break one night. Telling you how he played all the time and even streamed a bit in his free time. “I do alright, you should check me out.” blerd!ony, who was always holding up the line just to chat with his favorite customer about the new series he just started. “I’m talking to my girl, y’all can wait—anyways, did you see that new episode? Shit was crazy.” it wasn’t long before he was asking for your socials and hoping to keep the communication going on days even when he couldn’t see you. blerd!ony, who couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw the girl who came in his store with sweatpants and a DBZ shirt all dolled up in your cosplays..some a lot more revealing than others. blerd!ony, who’d always wanted to try the hobby but was afraid had some questions..among other things the next time he saw you. “I see how it is, best friend. You be putting that shit on.” you were infatuated with his humor and laid back personality so naturally, when he invited you to an anime cafe in your city, you accepted. blerd!ony, who was the perfect gentleman ensured that you had the best time as you two chopped it up about all things nerdy, making you laugh more than you had in a long time.
blerd!ony, who confided in you that he didn’t have many friends and especially ones into the things he was, told you how happy he was to have met you. “You cool as hell, we gotta do this more often.” a sentiment you agreed with heavily agreed with. Some time had passed and you two spoke nearly everyday. That’s when he revealed that he was not only interested in attending his first con but cosplaying as well, asked you accompany him..and pick a character! “I trust you, ma. Make me look good..” it was a no brainer as the two of you were huge fans of the Mortal Kombat series and decided to dress as Sindel and Shao Kahn. So the two of you spent days going to the fabric store and ordering materials to build props in your spare time..blerd!ony, who was turning heads the entire time when he revealed that Adonis like figure that had been hiding underneath that company polo everyday..you were nervous and even a little embarrassed walking beside someone so fine. but blerd!ony couldn’t keep his eyes off of you or hands..holding your left one, keeping you close and grasping the small of your back as he guided you through the crowds. Even carrying all of your bags and letting you rest your tired feet on his lap. blerd!ony, who had been eyeing you all day couldn’t help but to be entranced when it was time for the after party and the two of you were dancing with liquor in your system. “You full of surprises, huh mama?” “Try me and you might find out just how many.” blerd!ony, who couldn’t wait to get back to you guys’ hotel room, tore that costume open quicker than you could get the door open..leaving a trail of warm kisses down your neck as his fingers delved into your core, pinning you against the wall in the process. “You so fucking sexy..” muttering in your ear as he hiked your leg up and tugged his bottoms down. blerd!ony, who fucked you like a man starved that night had you grasping at things that weren’t even there..taking you from the mirror, to the dresser and eventually the bed, where he gave you deep backshots; grasping that platinum gray lace front on your head as he did so. “You don’t know how long I been wanting this..fuck..” blerd!ony, who had you fucking up the sheets all night, getting stretched by that thick cock with the curve, absolutely depleted you, so much so, you two barely made it around the convention the next day but he was glad that he had met the girl who loved the same things he did and the one of his dreams. <3

My Problems With Raine Whispers
Before I start this post, I just want to say that I'm a big fan of The Owl House. It's my personal favorite cartoon of all time - I think it's one of the best modern Disney cartoons out there. That being said, as much as I love The Owl House, the show isn't perfect, and today I'm going to talk about my problems with a specific character from the show; Raine. I never really cared for Raine, I didn't hate them but I didn't really like them either, they were just kinda meh to me. However, after a while I began to realize my real problems with Raine as a character and how their written. This is probably going to be a pretty big hot take so without further ado, let's begin with this post...
1. Raine doesn't feel that developed
This is something that's just an extension of a much bigger problem with Raine that I'll get to later, but a major issue I've always had with Raine is that they never really felt that developed of a character. Seriously, nothing about them was really that interesting to me, the show doesn't really develop them much. Now, I'm not expecting the show to give a full-length character arc to a side character, however, the show has many side characters like Matholamule, Hooty, Viney, and Boscha.
Raine has waaaay more screen time and plot importance than any of the characters I just mentioned yet they still feel less developed than those characters. Granted, this is probably something that could just be blamed on the shortening, but it's still a major problem nonetheless. But this is something that is just a part of a greater issue, which is the fundamental problem with Raine to me:
2. Raine feels solely defined by Eda
This is my biggest issue with Raine; their character feels like it's solely defined by Eda. Now, having a relationship with another character be a core aspect of a character isn't a bad thing; take Amity for example, Amity's relationship with Luz is definitely an important part of her character, the first thing people think about whenever they think about Amity is that she is Luz's girlfriend.
However, while Amity's relationship with Luz is a core aspect of her character, she isn't just "Luz's girlfriend". There are still many aspects of Amity's character beyond her relationship with Luz, and she gets her own character arc of gradually becoming a better person throughout Season 1. Even in Season 2 where people say that Amity is just reduced to "Luz's girlfriend" she still has some episodes in Season 2 developing her as a character where they explore her relationship with her parents.
And If I'm going to be honest, Raine kinda feels like everything that people say Season 2 Amity is. Like, really think about it, what other aspects are there about Raine's character aside from "Eda's childhood friend/Ex"? The only other things about Raine I can really think of are that their a bard and a Coven Head rebelling against the EC, but that's...kind of it. And these two traits aren't as prominent as their relationship with Eda.
Raine's whole character feels like it's solely defined by Eda. The character they interact the most with is Eda, the character they spend the most screentime with is Eda, and the biggest and most prominent trait is their relationship with Eda. And Eda's awesome, she's one of my favorite characters in the show, but when a character is developed beyond their relationship with another character, that's kind of a problem.
It never feels like the show really develops Raine beyond "Eda's childhood friend/Ex", they do not have many major characters aside from that and the few that they do have are overshadowed by this one trait. The entire concept of Raine's character IS defined by Eda. I'll admit, Raine is a cool idea for a character, but the show really develops them beyond that idea and it ends up being very mediocre in execution.
Again, there's nothing wrong with making a character's relationship to another character a core aspect of them, again Amity is an example of how to do that right, but you need to develop a character and give them more traits beyond just their relationship to another character. Otherwise, you end up with that character becoming solely defined by that other character, and that simply isn't good writing to me. Again, I know these problems were probably caused by the shortening, but they are still major issues that I feel need to be pointed out. Besides, the shortening didn't stop Season 2B and Season 3 from being amazing anyway.
Again, I know that Raine's just a side character, but considering that their the side characters with the most plot importance compared to others, I feel like It isn't unreasonable to expect the show to develop them well.
3. Conclusion
So uh, that's why I don't really care for Raine as a character. If you like Raine, good for you, but I just don't really find them that good of a character. I know this is kind of a hot take (which is why I am very scared of posting this) so uh if everything I just said is objectively wrong then uhhhh please tell me lmao. And that's it so...
...bye

Precure Daily's Sixth Anniversary
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On April 10, 2018, I posted the first review in the project that became Precure Daily. It wasn't actually on tumblr at that time, but on Facebook. The plan was to watch an episode every day and just post some thoughts, but it evolved into reviews and screenshots and that necessitated a whole blog, and here we are. That was six years ago today!
Six years. It's hard to believe. I honestly, truly didn't think I'd still be doing this. Whether I petered out before the end, or managed to get it all done in the 2-3 years I anticipated, I figured I'd have stopped by now. But somehow I haven't given up yet! I'm still watching, still writing, and still getting new fans to share with, and that makes it all worth it.
The past year was slow, I will readily acknowledge it. I only got about 7 reviews out in that time, including the one that just went up earlier today, but one of those was the Go Go movie. That was a whole undertaking, it took me nine months to get out. Granted, for about 6 of those 9 months it was just sitting there unchanged. I'd open it occasionally to poke at it but then not end up getting much done. Maybe it still wasn't the best it could have been but I'm proud of it nonetheless. It was a good review for a good movie. Also, I got to review the very first All Stars, even if it was a short film. Having recently wached the most recent All Stars brings that experience full circle and it's real nice.
One small hiccup is that, at the time of writing, I haven't yet gotten out the traditional Honoka birthday post. I just haven't had time to sit down and gather artwork for it. Hopefully that'll come out in the next day or two!
Outside of the blog, let's look at the wider world of the Precure series over the last year
I said last year that I hadn't finished Delicious Party, and that's still true. When it was on air, I was watching it with a friend and she was really into it; we are going to resume watching together to finally push through it.
HIrogaru Sky's second half was good, it lacked a little bit of the driving power of the first half and the villain plot never properly came together in my opionion. I still love the characters, I think they're my favorite cast in a good while.
I did not watch Otona Precure. Although I've watched Go Go before, I want to finish this current watchthrough for the blog before I jump into it. Maybe I'll even review it as I go, that remains to be seen. I've heard mixed things about it and I'm not very big on the idea that the girls just go back to teenagers when they transform, but I'll reserve judgment.
Wonderful Precure did not appeal to me when information started coming out, and I fell off it for a few weeks when the first couple eps didn't impress me, but I decided to keep going and it's thoroughly enjoyable. I don't think it's going to crack my top 10 but it should be a solid middle of the road series.
I watched the Delicious Party Precure movie and Precure All Stars F with friends in fairly close proximity, and wow do those movies exist on opposite ends of the spectrum. DeliPa's film was one of the weakest Precure movies I've seen, while All Star F was phenomenal. I need to rewatch it.
I did say last year that the blog would look different when I finish Go Go. That is still true. I should be able to wrap that up in a few months, then comes the next phase of things. Deets when it happens.
And also just because I can, here's some recommendations for shows outside of Precure you should watch that came out in the last year-ish:
Oshi no Ko
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (featuring Wonderful Precure's Tanezaki Atsumi as a monotone elf)
SPY x FAMILY (featuring Wonderful Precure's Tanezaki Atsumi as a psychic toddler)
Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger
The Last of Us
And I think that's it for this year's update! Here's to another year of watching and writing about Precure! Thanks as always to my loyal friends and fans for making this project a success: @sailorzombiestar, @vertixscribe, PaintedOutlaw, @hanasaki-tsubomi, yugimon135 (can't tag you for some reason), and my newest fan @nono-bunny.
Here's all my previous sappy anniversary posts if you want to go back and read them.
First Anniversary
Second Aniversary
Third Anniversary
Fourth Anniversary
Fifth Anniversary

There are now 10 main characters on The Rookie — rank them! 😈
Why, Sarah? Why?? Although, maybe it's not as hard as I thought? We shall see..
Tim and Lucy (1 & 2) I think these two are pretty self-explanatory, right? They both just got a very special place in my heart, both separately and together. I could cry over how for they've both come since the first episode. I could also write an essay here but I don't think I could stop before the new episode airs so I won't lol.
Angela (3) I just love her, okay? Always have, always will. My favorite no-nonsense detective.
Grey (4) Because he's the papa bear of the group and cares for every single officer at that station.
Aaron (5) Because he's just awesome. I won't lie, I wasn't sure what to make of his character at first, but I've come to really love him since then. His comedic relief? Perfect. Him partnered up with Tim? Chef's kiss.
Harper (6) Because she doesn't take shit from anyone and could easily take any guy twice her size and put him in his place.
Wesley (7) Listen, I like the guy, but with all the other characters we have he just.. moves down the list pretty quickly? But I do love that he's not some a**hole lawyer like others have been portrayed on the show, and that he's actually fighting for the right people.
Celina (8) Again, I can't say I dislike her, but I'm also not her biggest fan. Obviously, she's still a rookie, but there's been a few things that never would've been accepted when Lucy and Nolan were rookies. That one scene where she essentially goes off at Tim in 5x19 (?) comes to mind. I can't believe she didn't get at least a firm talking to.
Bailey (9) Okay, so.. here's the thing with Bailey. I've always been bothered by how she seemingly knows how to do everything and has about 135 different jobs. They seem to have tampered that one down quite a bit recently, but she still only interacts with Nolan, except for a quick conversation with someone else here or there. I said this in another post recently, but I think if she were more involved with others, I might like her better.
Nolan (10) What does it say about me (and maybe the character) that the titular character is my least favorite out of 10? I know not everyone would agree with me here, but I just.. don't care about him? I'm mad at him, or how obviously different he's being treated sometimes, every other episode; 6x04 being the latest example because there are literally no consequences when he messes up and then he ends up on the TV only hours later?? Come on. I know he's a new TO, but he's had so many ridiculously great role models and yet, here we are. I'm sorry to everyone who likes/loves him, but I just don't care about him at all.
Can Tamara be an honorary mention? I just love how far she's come since we met her and her bond with Lucy is so sweet. I love me some found sisters. I think I'd put her in like.. mh, 4th? 5th?
Whew, okay. So maybe this was a bit tougher than anticipated. Top 3 and bottom 3 were easy, but the rest? Help, that was difficult. Thank you so much for this, Sarah! As tough as some of these asks are to answer, I love doing them nonetheless. 🫶🏻

List of my favorite Violetta episodes
It’s hard to determine a single favorite episode in this long show, as many storylines carry over different episodes. So! I decided to make a list of all of my faves. I might like some more than others, but nonetheless it’s the ones I love to watch more than the unmentioned eps.
1x07 - This is the episode that originally got me into Violetta back in the days. I saw that Junto a ti performance and became obsessed immediately. I also think it’s the turning point, as the first 6 episodes were more or less just ”get to know the characters” eps.
1x10 - YES IT IS BECAUSE OF THE FRANLETTA AMIGA SCENE SHUT UP I may not remember anything else in the episode right on hand But if I rewatch it I know I’ll also like most of the other scenes.
1x13 - Francesca coming over to Violetta’s house for the first time?? Vilu being awkward about it yet also so excited that she has a friend?? Also the real start of the audition arc 💜
1x35 - OH I KNOW THE LINES FLUENTLY IN THE SWEDUB I watched this so many times back when Violetta was on Netflix. I think it’s my most watched S1 episode. It has it all. Leonetta post first kiss and Violetta being all excited and giddy. When she tells her friends they kissed and her friends get so excited. Germán choking when he hears Leon and Violetta are dating. TOMAS SUFFERING!!
1x40 - The rush I feel when Violetta runs from the wedding and goes to the theater and performs!! Such a thrilling mid season finale!
1x55 - Students protesting Gregorio and singing in front of the school! I love the revolting children arc
1x68 - Junto a ti performance! Almost time for the reality show finale! Don’t like the ending tho
1x72 - Vilu finding out Angie is her aunt and now they can finally begin their real aunt and niece relationship 💜
1x80 - NOTHING CAN BEAT THE VIOLETTA S1 FINALE
2x01 - THE FIRST EPISODE OF S2 MAKES ME FEEL SO MUCH. God I feel so warm inside just thinking about it. It’s so good.
2x06 - Maybe it’s mostly because of the Franletta scene but all of the first 10 eps of S2 are bangers
2x15 - Leonetta being in the middle of their small dating era for a while, before shit hits the fan <3
2x25 - The gang at the party, performing and dancing! Violetta being at home and Diego coming over with a clown nose! THE FRANLETTA CHEEK KISS
2x33 - VIOLETTA WANTING TO GO TO FRAN’S PARTY BUT SHE CAN’T BECAUSE SHE NEEDS TO WORK :(( AAAAAAAA SHE LOVES HER FRIEND SO MUCH also we see the Codigo Amistad mv in this <3
2x42 - This episode is so goddamn funny we got Violetta losing her voice and her friends helping her to hide this from everyone. I also love sleepover eps a lot
2x51-2x52 - FRANCESCA GOING TO ITALY AND THEN RETURNING!!! FRANLETTA REUNITING!!! I so love everyone saying goodbye and then the episode afterwards everyone is so happy!!!! It’s so fun!
2x61 - Every fucking scene of this episode makes me laugh seriously go watch this episode
2x64-2x65 - This is only for the karaoke shenanigans alone
2x67 - LEONETTA’S TURNING POINT THEY’RE GETTING CLOSER AGAIN AAAAA
2x72-2x75 - Madrid plot Madrid plot Madrid plot Madrid plot Madrid plot
3x28 - Singlehandedly one of the few funny Roxy arc episodes. Also Ludmila thought Franletta were making out in the aquarium
3x30-3x31 - All the scenes at the wedding are so fun <3 and Ludmila and Violetta being stepsisters
3x35 - I love the show they put on <3
3x48-3x49 - The Franletta reconciliation arc <3
3x64 - Leonetta being absolutely silly and stupid and it’s so funny
3x77 - Priscila’s last episode! Everything starting to wrap up slowly! CAMILA AND NATY SUPPOSEDLY KISSING OFF SCREEN!!

What are your personal favorite podcasts?
Mod Nic here, I just got access to the askbox (Thank you Mods Kat and Axe!) and I'll be getting to the asks and submissions in chronological order except I wanted to answer this first.
My top three podcasts I can't rank because they all feel incomparable. They are Welcome to Night Vale, Wolf 359, and Friends at the Table.
Welcome to Night Vale: A classic. I've listened to this at least four times. Of course, 20 new episodes come out a year (plus bonus episodes on Patreon and liveshows on Bandcamp) so I haven't listened to every episode four times, because on each listen it gets longer and longer. I found it summer of 2013 when I was on an international road trip and could only check Tumblr on my iPod Touch when the hostel/motel/airport/ferryport had WiFi. Everyone was talking about it so I used the Apple podcast app (before it was subsumed by iTunes (before it was later rejected by iTunes)) for the first time. I remember coming back to the US and being at my grandparents and excited for a good WiFi connection and a lack of time pressure so that I could reblog Night Vale art like everyone else. My comfort podcast. Despite many people comparing any fiction podcast to Welcome to Night Vale, the first one to feel similar on an emotional level to me is Hello From The Hallowoods. It has the same sense of yes, the world is filled with horrors, but life is beautiful nonetheless. A narrator's gentle voice will tell me the happenings of many people who may or may not know each other but still make up a broader community.
Wolf 359: This is not the first non-Night Vale podcast I listened to, but it was the one that unlocked podcasts for me. The first one that I could track easily and was always eager for the next episode. The first one that was dangerous for my sleep and my homework the way that books are dangerous — once I start I can't put it down. I started it early fall of 2016 at the beginning of my junior year of college. I remember walking around parks playing Pokémon Go and coloring a page of an adult coloring book. I believe I caught up at Memoria, which was amazing timing. Opposite of a comfort podcast. I think I've listened to seasons 1–3 twice, but since the show finished I can't listen to more than an episode without getting devastated by emotions. Second media property I've ever had a fic idea for that I really want to write.... just as soon as I can manage a relisten. Not really comparable except for that it also has a protagonist that is a diagetic narrator closely backed by an ensemble cast and a show-long plot (instead of a season-long plot), but Hi Nay is probably the fastest I've ever gone from hearing a podcast for the first time to backing it on Patreon (but it was more a replacement for The Magnus Archives in my listening schedule, turns out I need to be exercising to listen to horror).
Friends at the Table: An actual play podcast that ruined me for actual play podcasts. Started listening in 2017 after I needed to temporarily withdraw from school due to my health collapsing causing me to fail classes. I had been listening to The Adventure Zone, but I actually started it because so many amazing Wolf 359 fan artists and fic writers were making art and fic for F@tT and I just had to know what that was about. I caught up just in time to start with Spring in Hieron. Due to my personal audio issues, I often have no idea what's going on in the sci-fi seasons, but that hasn't stopped me from crying because of it anyways. I can give personalized recommended starting points if I know someone, but in general I'm a big advocate for starting with the very first episode. My favorite season is probably still Autumn in Hieron, despite the audio quality. The moment when an interpretation of a roll from a player caused the pirates to become undead pirates was probably the moment when I got excited about wanting to play tabletop roleplaying games myself. Since I found it I've bounced off of every single actual play podcast I've tried listening to, until a few months ago when I started the Ruin's Gate season of The Unexplored Places. Ruin's Gate has the distinction of being the first time I've been able to track what the rolls of a Forged in the Dark game mean from a narrative perspective instead of just a mechanics perspective.

Courtney Defense Post
Tumblr media
This is a post made to clear up misinfo and hopefully provide people with a better/comprehensive understanding of Courtney's character. Courtney receives excessive hate from many Total Drama fans that has only in recent years begun to dissipate. Let's get right into the post.
The Love Triangle
Tumblr media
This post will be frequently mentioning the love debacle between Gwen, Duncan, and Courtney. If you ship any of these, especially Gwuncan, this might not be an easy read. Just letting you know in advance.
The Network
Since it will be brought up a lot in this post, lets start with talking about the cast/crew of the network. I'll keep it short.
During its active run, Total Drama ran on two channels, Teletoon and Cartoon Network.
The creator shipped Duncney and Gwent. The network coerced the writers/creator of the show into breaking up Duncan and Courtney for the sake of 'drama' and 'realism.' It's a little bit important to note that they didn't have to break up Gwent, but they did have to create a love triangle out of the scenario somehow and weren't really left with a choice.
Duncan's VA, who also ships Duncney essentially stated that Duncan didn't actually love Gwen more than he did the idea of her and them being together because Duncan liked the fact that they had so much in common more than anything else.
Of course, he's a VA so it's safe to take his words with a grain of salt, but it's likely he asked the writing team and ended up recieving this as an answer.
Gwen
Tumblr media
Let's start with Gwen. I feel like no one focuses enough on her betrayal/actions toward Courtney. I very much believe in the 'don't blame the 'sidechick' ideology, but that doesn't rid her of accountability. The fact that the show ALSO framed her as somehow being the victim of Courtney's actions is sickening and problematic.
Even more so when you consider the way the show wrote other BIPOC besides Courtney in the show during the earlier seasons. But I'll go more into that later.
So Gwen was basically your goth, laidback, not like the other girls archetype with depths beyond her appearance. Cliche, albeit, not extremely so, so she was very likable. Personally, she was once my favorite character and one of my first fictional crushes.
What a lot of Gwen fans and people who watch/watched the show, in general, fail to acknowledge is her snakey behavior towards Courtney.
From going out of her way to assure Courtney that absolutely NOTHING was going on between herself and Duncan only to date/flirt with him hardly a season later to admitting to kissing Duncan whilst knowing he was in a relationship with her closest friend only to take it back and claim that she did nothing wrong because 'the boy was free' (which, is a plot hole, as I mentioned earlier, but still was inexcusable for Gwen to declare nonetheless).
Pretty much, she gaslighted Courtney, which is absolutely NOT okay. And when Courtney decided to place her trust in her, she played with that, too.
Gwen is wishy-washy in general. One example is when she got pissed at Trent for leaving her buried (mind you, Trent was dealing with his own fear/trauma). Then in the next episode, they'd made up. Then episodes later, she decides she's still pissed at him for leaving her buried.
This behavior was also shown through her relationship with Duncan. I'm not mad at Gwen for being moody. She's a teenager. But the fact that this is never called out by the same fans who say they wish Courtney would die jars me.
It's also crazy how people call Duncney toxic, but don't consider Gwen's moodiness and then her refusal to communicate it not toxic as well? There are episodes wherein she straight up ignores Duncan or acts passively-aggressively toward him. Meanwhile, Duncan has no clue what's even going on.
On a psychological level, it's been proven that even if you have to scream at your partner whilst you're communicating with them, it's a lot better than being passive-aggressive and ignoring them. This also happened with Trent. Except, Gwen actually appeared to eventually get past this and learned to communicate better thanks to him. Of course, with the forced writing, they ended up devolving Gwen's character back to the way it was once Gwuncan came around.
Being Betrayed
Tumblr media
What kills me is the way fans criticize Courtney for the way she treated Gwen and Duncan. AFTER they had both betrayed her. This is no justification, but Courtney was a person who was acting out of pain, betrayal, and broken trust. Lots of fans believe she just got over it in no time when in reality she was just processing and then conveying her pain in a more crass manner.
There's also the argument used that Courtney mistreated or abused Duncan.
There is no denying that she nagged and yelled at him. But she NEVER abused him. And in multiple instances, Duncan is shown to actually enjoy the fact that Courtney's on his ass all the time. Duncan has an inclination toward feistier girls and toward the end of their relationship it was shown that he didn't like (neither did he deserve) Gwen's more laidback way of confronting issues and going about things, for better or worse because he's a slightly more high-strung person and thrives off of motivation from someone more or at least equally as high-strung as he is (this isn't to say Duncan is high-strung, he just is in comparison to Gwen).
People often bring up that list she gave him of things he needed to change to maintain their relationship. I agree that this was extreme. But she literally acknowledges this and starts to realize she likes his imperfections less than a few episodes later.
Courtney was a teenage girl navigating what was very likely her first relationship. I could understand a lot more if she hadn't been shown to learn from her actions, but she did.
Gwen versus Courtney/Subconcious Biases
Tumblr media
Let's backtrack a bit again into the inner-workings of the show.
Total Drama was a show that ran from the late 2000s to the mid-2010s (at least this applies to most of the seasons that involved the original cast). This was a period where internalized misogyny and microaggressive forms of racism among other things were rampant in all sorts of media but wasn't really acknowledged by those who consumed said entertainment.
It's important to note that before I say this, Courtney is mistaken by some fans to be of Latinx descent.
Anyway, Gwen fits similar archetypes as the following characters in fiction: Jade West, Sam Manson, and Mal Bertha. All of them fit the 'not like the other girls' archetype I mentioned earlier. Only the first regularly faces consequences for her actions and without the narrative regularly or semi-regularly framing her as being in the right. But all of them to this day are adored by fans. The latter two also have rivalries with WOC (Women of Color). With all said women of color often being villainized in some way, shape, or form (Descendants luckily broke this trope in their final movie).
The writers usually make the women of color 'popular' or 'feisty/strong' or somehow give them the upper-hand in the story/situation in an attempt to empower them. But it ends up framing the non-woc in the situation as someone who is being victimized or someone who is saintly or morally superior. Even if they were actually wrong or the one being antagonistic in the beginning, they'll find some way to make the WOC do something to show the audience that 'Omg, (non-woc) was right after all!' This is highly apparent in total drama when Courtney's plan to eliminate Gwen ends up being exposed.
Lots of fans tend to lean toward Gwen because of her aesthetic and as a result of subconscious racism without even being aware that this is the mindset that they are perpetuating and is what they're doing.
I'm not trying to say 'Courtney's black, feel bad for her' or even trying to make this about race when I point this out. I'm just acknowledging the racist subtleties. I highly recommend watching the second episode of Danny Phantom to gain a better idea of what I'm talking about in this section of the post.
Anyway, unless someone comes with a valid reason as to why they loathe Courtney but love Gwen I'm gonna be side-eyeing them from now on. Just because Gwen is a more subtle kind of terrible, that doesn't mean she's any better than Courtney. She's actually worse if that's the case. That said, I'm not accusing anyone who does have this stance of being a racist. Just saying that they should most definitely mull it over. If you can excuse Gwen's terrible behavior but can continuously bash Courtney, then please think twice.

What are some silly Lupin III fan theories that you have? Here's some of mine:
Goemon actually is an angel - Goemon always conveniently shows up to save Lupin and friends, and consistently tries to steer all of them on a moral path. In the angel episode, it is shown that it was merely a coincidence that he was at the girl's mother's grave at the right time, but what if this wasn't a coincidence at all, and Goemon is somehow driven by the powers of fate? What if the snake that scared Goemon and made him fall near the grave was planted in a biblical manner? It's awfully fitting for him specifically to be the one to kill Jesus' twin vampire sister, with a miracle of nature nonetheless.
Parts 1, 2, and 3 Goemon are all the same exact character, just aged - rather than being individual new iterations, Goemon just grew up. He starts as a young adult made to do heinous things, but finally finds a group of friends who love him for who he is. By the time Part 2 takes place, Goemon tries to balance his friendships with who he "should" be as a samurai, sometimes hurting his friendships, if not himself, in order to become the ideal samurai he was raised to believe he should be. By Part 3 he has come to terms with who he is, is a little less strict about training, and is stable in his friendships and willing to do anything to help his friends.
Goemon represents good in an otherwise cruel world - as it has been established, the Lupin III universe is awfully evil, somewhat including the protagonists whose goals in life are to steal and otherwise live a sinful life. Another thing of note is that most of the "bad" characters are somewhat full of themselves, usually maniacally laughing with joy at their bad actions, are content with who they are, and deliberately hurt others. Goemon is the complete opposite; Goemon always believes he has room to improve, undermines his accomplishments and often lacks pride, apologizes for when he does make an honest mistake (speaking of which, nearly all of his mistakes are honest), and tries to spare others as much as possible. Even when he was tasked with killing Lupin, he gave Lupin numerous chances to get away, and was only driven to truly kill Lupin when Fujiko claimed Lupin assaulted her. He actively tries to undo some of the evil in the world by fighting villains and defending Lupin, whom he believes to be a good person, and always jumps to the defense of those in need.
Goemon's favorite color is purple

I thought you said you were bad at jokes?!?!
Tumblr media
^^ comedy gold XD
I think Troll Hunters starred off a little slow for me but definitely improved pretty quickly. But I think I only started really liking it around the part where he wrote a "goodbye" letter to his crush before fighting Draal. That whole episode was really fun.
My favorite character is probably Aarghaumont. Idk what it is about him but he just makes me laugh and want a hug, lol.
Fun fact about me: I have no sense of smell! Well... more like a very very very bad sense of smell. If you shove a perfume bottle right up to my nose I can smell it, and if the smell if bad enough same thing. I think I like the smell of vanilla a lot?
Have you ever gone to a concert? If so, for which band? What is your earliest memory you can remember? (Mine is I remember just being FACINATED with a ceiling fan. Staring up at it in awe. No idea how young I was I just am pretty sure I was VERY little.)
-🌻
OH NO!!! I thought I posted this earlier but it saved to drafts instead 😭 Sorry for taking forever with this one!
That's when it started picking up for me too! I really liked that episode! We love Aarrrgh so much frfr, but I think my all time favorite has to be Toby :D
I have been to a concert! When I was 10 my parents took me and my sister to see The Band Perry! They're a country/rock band that I really liked when I was little! My music taste has changed substantially since then, but it was really fun!
The earliest memory that I can think of, hmm... Probably when my dad tried to teach me how to spell my name? He told me how to spell it, showed me a few times, then left me with a giant piece of paper to practice on. I completely covered that thing with my name, and was so proud when I was finished! I had actually spelled my name wrong every single time, but I was proud nonetheless! I'm sure I have earlier memories, but that's the only one I can think of right now :)
How far have you gotten in the series so far? What are some of your favorite hobbies? And do you have any cool facts you want to share?

Pour one out for every time my heart skipped a beat while watching Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai (1991) and thinking I was finally about to see a DQ4 character but got juked.
See, part of the reason I put this anime on my list oh so many years ago now is because I grew up with the Dragon Warrior games on NES, and 4 in particular was one of my world-reshaping JRPGs (I feel like most everyone has at least one JRPG they played in their childhood or teen years that completely rocked them to their core; this was one of mine). In the early 00s when I learned what Google Image Search was, I got really into looking for fan art of characters I had only seen previously as pixel sprites. And while looking up DQ4 characters (I only knew their early NA translation names, not the modern ones they have today), I saw an image of what I THOUGHT must have been a screenshot from an anime featuring two of my favorite characters from DQ4. I only saw that one image by itself and nothing else like it, so I figured if it was a screenshot it must have only been like one scene in one episode, so it probably wasn't a big deal, but it was still cool and stuck in my memory for years.
Eventually, I found out that there was in fact a Dragon Quest anime, about original characters and an original plot with no direct ties to any of the games I grew up with. But it sounded like it could be fun nonetheless, and hey, maybe it still did have that screenshot after all! So now here I am in 2023, finally got around to watching it and keeping my eyes peeled for that so-called screenshot, just in case. This is also a big reason I watched the 91 anime instead of the new 2020 one, even though the 91 version doesn't cover the complete manga series. I've been catching all the little references to DQ trivia and monsters that I know along the way, but it's been mostly centered on stuff from DQ 1-3, with 4 mostly only reflected in the background music (which in hindsight makes sense, given that the game debuted around 1990, and the anime aired in 91-92, adapted from a manga that started in 89).
Anyway, I'm 99% positive now that what I saw back then was not, in fact, a screenshot of Mara and Nara (oh sorry, guess I should use their modern names now - Maya and Meena Mahabala), but just a really cool fan art. A mild disappointment, but I can't fault the anime for that. Now I wonder if I can still dig up that fan art to show what I was talking about...

Ten things I noted about the four-part miniseries “UnDeadwood” :
Now I decided to watch this even though I haven't watched Deadwood (probably should put it on my list), and knowing I'm not much of a western fan except when mixed with other elements (hello Firefly, my favorite show cancelled after one season). But let's be honest, I said to myself, I'll watch anything Critical Role does, and anything Marisha and Travis are in (bonus points for Anjali Bhimani, whom I also adore).
Damn, this miniseries was good. What can I say ? It got me !
More notes & spoilers under the cut.
First off, the production side of this miniseries is incredible, even more so when I'm coming from CR3 where they hired a team of experts on how to make amusements parks (!!!) to have a better set. The little town at the center of the table is well made, and the shots of the buildings really give a nice spatial representation. The opening credits are cool, and seeing the cast in costume really is a joy that a single one-shot cannot bring to the table. Also they all look HOT, that goes without saying. Also the accents ! I had the vapors.
Oh, and the music !! I saw it was Jason Charles Miller who did it, and of course he did ! That man is a nerd in a ZZ Top costume.
Brian's evident love for the original story of Deadwood (both the show and the real town) is evident and charming.
I love that the first close-up shot of Matt we see is : him, and his hair gently floating in the wind (of the studio).
The obvious editing bothered me a little bit at the beginning, but I think that was just because I wasn't used to it... Maybe some cuts were harsh... But yeah, the editing grew on me after the first episode. And I understand why they used it specifically in this short format, and to give a smoother feeling to the story. It made everything feels like a true immersion - whereas episodes of Critical Role are more a feeling of a show (which I love !)
Fogg, as he is enjoying his time with 3 ladies : "Oh, Reverent ! I got three of 'em in here, you sure you don't want a share ?" The Reverent : "No ! I have my own three ! The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit."
"It's ... hiiiiiigh moooon !" Nice one Brian
"Curse my white-collar upbringing !" Marisha, you do not have to make me laugh like that, but I thank you nonetheless
I like the system of using both dice and cards for power or initiative. I'm gonna check it out. I need to see other systems besides D&D.
Arabella, about Fogg's injured leg : "You look like a 13-years old who just got her time of the month, so why won't you let me take a look at that leg ?" AMAZING SAYING
"God don't play cards."
"I ain't a religious man, not in a long time. I've seen enough people be animals out there to know that if God made us in his image, God's every bit as feral as the things he created." Hum, excuse me, who gave Matt the right to say those ABSOLUTELY AMAZING PHRASES ?? Did he went to the Caleb's school of one-liners that rule ??
Love how effortlessly they integrated the rules and the background together. The idea of spending a chip to go see The Bartender and ask some information if you're stuck, and also get a shot of whisky, is a good one.
As soon as Brian said there was some revenants about town, I was suuuuure we were gonna see Arabella's freshly dead sister. And I was right ! But it was devastating nonetheless.
We only saw NPC Katie for like 2 minutes, but she managed to make me fall in love with her in record time !
Marisha loving playing ladies who are snoops and weirdoes and wants to find things and love gory things and/or mystical shit (Beau, Alexandra in the Cthulhu one-shot, Arabella, Laudna). Yes I know she definitely loved playing Keyleth (my beloved) even if she was, as a character, very far from what she is or what she usually likes. But I also love that we see her preferences.
NITROGEN ??? DAMN ! Mrs. Myriam Landisman came here to PLAY
Marisha drawing a straight fucking flush, we love to see it. Amazing
Brian, to Matt : "I'm gonna say something to you, that I wanted to say for a long time. How the fuck do you want to do this ?"
This is why I love those kinds of actors who are all in. The consequence of Aloysius failing his spell was that "he forgot for 6 days attachments on an emotional level". And boy did Khary run with it. Retrospectively, I think Aloysius could have spared Clayton Sharpe, in the end ; but no, not with this consequence. And Khary knew what he was doing, he was crying while doing it, but he did justice to both his character, and the consequence. To an exterior eye, this could be waste of character development, but no, it's the opposite !
Is Al Swearengen secretly the Dealer ?? He said the same words ! "Greed ain't cheap"
THEY QUOTED THE FUCKING PRINCESS BRIDE, or close !!! I love them for this. "You seem a decent man. I hate to kill you." "You seem a decent man. That I'd hate to be killed by."
The ending my god. No notes, just tears.
I know that with Brian exiting the CR world, it's not going to happen, but man, imagine the parallel universe where UnDeadwood 2 was a thing... I want to go to there

Writers & Artists Wanted! 💕💸😎
HI, HI, HI!! I'm not really sure how many people are even going to be interested in this—if any at all—BUT! If you're an artist and/or writer who happens to be a fan of Johnny Bravo, you're in luck!
I want to put together a webcomic that will basically be a fan-made Johnny Bravo reboot—and I need YOUR help to do so!
Respectively, under this cut are details on:
1) Why I'm putting this project together!
2) What I'm looking for in a co-writer!
3) What I'm looking for in an artist!
4) 💸 Money! 💸
WHY AM I DOING THIS?
Honestly, I have a lot of different reasons, and it'd be hard to sum it all up in just one paragraph. So take this long-winded monologue.
Obviously, the original series was not meant to be taken seriously whatsoever. It's just a silly (if somewhat dated) cartoon. But the general concept of the show itself—tackling toxic masculinity and showcasing how it can affect your life and those around you—is, in my opinion, an extremely important one that has a lot of great potential to be utilized.
Most characters in the show don't really have a solid personality, being shaped to fit whatever was most suitable for the episode at hand—but, that said, it's still uniquely interesting to see each character interact with one another, to see how they play off each other. Even though their personalities aren't always 100% concise, you can still get the gist of any of the characters' general feel and concept nonetheless, and it's that aspect that ties together each character's dynamic with one another as well as it does. The writing of the show and characters are very flexible, but seeing how Johnny interacts with the people around him—and the company he keeps around on a regular basis, like Mama, Suzy, Carl & Pops—brings a truly peaceful semblance of continuity and community to the show that it would likely lack under any other circumstance.
So, there's quite a few different reasons I want to do this webcomic!
Johnny Bravo, for both the series and the character, has a lot of great potential to be even more amazing than it already is. There are times when I hate the show, and there are times when I absolutely adore it. Of course, that said, I'm just one person, and everyone's opinions are different, and that's perfectly fine—but, ideally, I'm trying to recreate the series in a way that I (and hopefully others as well) can fully adore.
Going further off the first point, the show's general concept and message is a good one, but the execution of it is a bit messy, and there are honestly so many offensive stereotypes and jokes that certain episodes are almost a little hard to watch sometimes. And the writing in some episodes are just, arguably, not very good (especially in the 4th season, although I loved it too for its own reasons). Not only am I trying to recreate the series to be better written, but also to use it as a means of spreading more positive messages—both to a younger audience and the older. One of my favorite parts of consuming and producing media is the fact that it can genuinely impact the way a person views the world, even if only a little. If I have even the slightest chance of doing that with this comic, even if it's just one other person in the entire world, I'll probably be the happiest man on the planet!
Some people oftentimes like to say that a show such as Johnny Bravo could never be rebooted or remade in today's world. In my opinion, when it comes to writing and fiction, almost anything is possible if it's done well enough. I'm also just very full of spite. So, I'm trying to prove those people wrong.
My beef is not just with the people mentioned above, but also with the select few people who do defend the original series completely. You know, the ones who say there's absolutely nothing wrong with Johnny's behavior towards women, some of the show's writing in general, etc. Like I said, I honestly don't really expect this comic to do that well, and I'm mostly doing it for myself anyway, BUT… imagine if it does, and the dudebros start crying over the fact that Johnny Bravo is """woke""" now. The sheer amount of temper tantrums from the Andr*w T*te wannabes. I think it'd be a little funny tbh. Just a bit.
I lurk the Johnny Bravo tag in silence almost every single day (because I am mentally ill clearly). And lately, I've noticed a small uptick in Carl Chryniszzwics appreciation, as well as the JB series as a whole! Which, granted, is not much, because the Johnny Bravo community isn't very big. But nonetheless… Carl :) I like him a lot. Rest assured he is going to be a major part of this story too.
Honestly, I've just wanted to do this for YEARS now. This is a very, very big passion project for me!
NOW! With all that said, I am still quite a ways away from getting started on this project. The original plan was to do this all by myself—but, to be entirely honest, I don't think I can. For one, I'm nowhere near confident enough in my art skills to be drawing comics 😭 Writing, sure! But definitely not art. As much as I wish I could pull this entire comic series off single-handedly, I just don't think that's going to be possible for me.
WRITERS
In terms of writing, I'm honestly pretty confident in my style in itself, but my trouble mostly lies within the fact that I'm just not very good at coming up with storyline ideas. I don't think this series needs to have a huge, complicated plot or anything—but I would like to have at least a little continuity for this. Just a smidge, at least. A margin, if you will. Which is pretty inconvenient for me, funnily enough, because I'm not used to writing with continuity at all!
There's also the simple fact that I have never worked on a webcomic before. The most I've ever written are short stories, and those are just words. To be quite honest, I am not entirely sure what I'm doing! So, it'd honestly be nice to have at least one writer working with me on this that can help me come up with new and improved ideas in terms of story, as well as give me any sort of feedback they see fit for the story/characters!
ARTISTS
Like I've mentioned, I have absolutely no experience with webcomics whatsoever, just to be entirely transparent. I'm not even really sure how to structure a comic properly, no matter how many times I have tried before.
So, ideally, if you're interested in making art for this project, it would be helpful if you already have some sort of experience with making comics. I CAN draw a rough outline of the scenes you'll be drawing if you need some sort of direction, if you'd like me to, but that's up to you!
Along with this, I would prefer that the art style is drawn in a similar style to the show! It doesn't have to be 100% accurate, and please feel free to add your own flair to it!! But also, that said, if you're still interested but cannot emulate the show's style at all, that's alright too—it's more of a preference, but not a total requirement! I'll take whatever I can get honestly!
MONEY
So obviously if I'm hoping to get other people to work on this project with me, I'm 100% going to be willing to pay you for your work with me.
Please keep in mind this is mostly a passion project, nothing professional (if that wasn't obvious by now lmao). That being said, I know art and writing takes a LOT of time and effort, and you deserve to be paid as such.
So, for writers and artists, the prices will be up to YOU!
Mostly because I'm not really sure what prices qualify as too much/too little for these sorts of things. So just tell me what prices you see fit for your work, and I will be sure to pay you for what you do!
Along with this, in the future, I'm thinking of implementing TIPS! Meaning that anyone who would like to can donate money towards this project.
I'm NOT setting that up just yet, because I want to be 100% sure that I have a stable team and am completely ready for this project to launch before I do that, and obviously the last thing I want to do is be irresponsible with other people's money, so. I'm waiting on that part for now. Right now, I'm planning to pay the writers/artists from my own pocket—but I'm hoping that if the tips work out well enough, I could possibly raise the pay for writers/artists to pay them more for their work! So your money would be going to everyone working on the project if you were to tip any money in the future!
CONTACT & DISCORD
If you are interested in working on this project with me in any way, please feel free to send me a message at any time you'd like!
You can DM me here, but I'll probably reply a lot faster if you contact me on Discord or Twitter!
You are also free to join the discord server for this project, whether you're working on the project or not!

SO I am most of the way through volume 4 (I believe I’ve seen 9 episodes) and I have *thoughts.*
This may be my favorite volume so far it’s not perfect or anything but I think splitting the main 4 up was a good choice for character development. I also think the writers are getting more used to writing each main girl so their personalities are getting more consistent which is cool.
Weiss and Yang’s arcs are probably my favorites I thought Ruby and Yang’s dad was going to be boring after volume 3 but his relationship with Yang is so sweet and I like that the show is actually showing Yang’s trauma from…you know. I’m not sure they spent quite as much time on it as I would have liked but it’s still great. Weiss’s arc was pretty expected, it didn’t surprise me at all, but it’s super satisfying (like any character who you know is gonna get redeemed when they finally do) and I love watching her grow although I would very much like to punch her dad.
Blake’s arc is interesting…I like her dynamic with Sun when she’s not slapping him (plus he’s hilarious.) Who the heck is Ilya though? (Did I spell that right?) I’m intrigued and Blake’s parents deserve everything. I like this arc my one problem is that I feel like at the moment Blake’s only real character trait is running away and I think she could be fleshed out a *little* more.
OH THAT ONE SCENE WITH JAUNE AND PYRRHA’S VIDEO MADE ME CRY I miss Pyrrha so much she was my favorite character and then she DIED!
I like the setup of Ruby’s arc my main problem with it is that Ruby as a character isn’t my favorite. She’s certainly likeable but I feel like her main trait is “protagonist.” The rest of the group is great though, although I would have liked more time dealing with Jaune’s grief (really I just wish this volume were longer because it’s doing so much good stuff!)
I realized that I’m complaining a lot but I really love this volume.
Qrow may be my new favorite character…I just learned about his semblance and ouch that’s sad (kind of reminds me of Eda.) He has SUCH a specific vibe and I can’t describe it but I love it so much also his relationship with Ruby is everything.
BUT NOW HE MIGHT DIE I’M SCARED HE’S GOING TO DIE AND THEN TWO OF MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS WILL BE DEAD AND THAT WOULD SUCK!!!!!!!!!
Okay that’s it those are nine episodes worth of pent up thoughts I’m sorry for making you read all of that!
i’m glad you like volume 4 so far!!
i’m usually not a fan of splitting characters up but the show did this volume really well in that case and in a lot of ways it was necessary for the girls’s growth as individuals. they’ve had three volumes to build up the characters, so volume 4 is definitely when you start to see them get fleshed out.
i’m really glad they took volume 4 to really showcase yang’s struggles with adjusting to only having one arm and dealing with ptsd, and weiss’s arc is predictable but enjoyable to see nonetheless. and the jacques hatred will only grow the more of the show you watch, so that doesn’t change.
ilia amitola is the light of my life and one of my absolute favorite characters in the show. i don’t wanna spoil anything about her, but you’ll love her. and volume 5 fleshes blake’s character out more than volume 4 does imo, so that does get better.
same with ruby, in the later volumes you definitely start to see more of ruby’s struggles and her more pessimistic and hopeless side, so to speak. and again, without spoiling anything… i think we’re gonna come back to jaune’s grief in this year’s upcoming volume, but i’ll wait to discuss that until you’re all caught up lol.
qrow and eda have A LOT in common and his relationship with ruby is a lot like eda’s with luz, that’s all i’ll say on that right now……….
the show does really only go up from here and volume 4/5 are put together like continuous volumes, so a lot of the build-up and character development runs into volume 5 too, and personally, volume 5 has a lot of my favorite moments, so there’s a lot to look forward to!!
(also i feel like i hammer in “soon!!!!” with a lot of stuff, but i promise that it all actually DOES happen. 😭 the next four volumes are way more packed than the four you’ve already seen.)

the beautiful person's journal - #4: the troubled production of the late 2010's videos, and my teenage self's concerns
Tumblr media
(just gonna give a little disclaimer...i obviously don't know jim personally. in this post, i'll be discussing the SPECULATIONS i had about the caddicarus show's production between 2016 and 19 that i gathered through public information on his social media accounts. these are my PERSONAL opinions! you may have different ones about this era of the channel, but i...was an observant little autistic teen.)
so, i'm pretty sure i've established several times now that i'm a fan from 2014. and if you happened to know me between 2014 and 2019, you'd probably remember that i was very much a proud 2014-15 era caddicarus fan.
and i had a reason to be proud! i came along the same year as the release of the legendary dalmatians 3 video. the channel went up over 200k subscribers that year - from 100k-something to 300k. it went up to 400k in 2015 before the stagnation period. us buzzcut/apartment-era fans were the most populous group of beautiful people before the 2020 reset. the community interacted a lot, the caddicarus show was fortnightly and it was putting out bangers such as the vib-ribbon, playstation cheats, snow white, and cheesy episodes.
but by mid-late 2015, some problems began to arise. there were rising debates in the fanbase about whether or not the caddicarus show should upload more frequently. the ballz and blossom blast episodes were very controversial. and the puppicarus show was the final nail in the coffin for the older community - it sent the fandom into violent fights and debates in the comment section. it was one of the first times our fanbase was truly divided...the only precedent for this would've been the stanley parable tinker time, which couldn't hold a candle to these events.
and after this incident...the caddicarus show became weekly in february 2016, which was HUGE at the time. all the beautiful people rejoiced as this was the first time in history we've had weekly episodes. AND with two bonus videos every week? what's not to love?
well...even back then, i was simultaneously excited...and worried. i was ecstatic about the show becoming weekly, and i was also excited about the channel getting new branding...and as you may recall, my expectations were a bit too high for the latter.
but i was very worried about caddy. this 21-year-old dude who had just moved into a family situation is now gonna have to pump out three videos a week, while staying consistent in quality and being there for his family?
and you know what? i had a lot of fun with season 6 when it came out. i have a lot of fond memories waiting for the video to come out every sunday, and during that waiting time, me and my fandom buddies would create stuff like memes and fanart.
and season 7 was fun too! that month of terrarr was by far my favorite, and the fall of 2016 is EXTREMELY nostalgic.
by the beginning of 2017, he'd moved to the current house and was still keeping a consistent schedule. current quickies was replaced with the caddy show, which had longer videos and more variety. film fridays was replaced with cinemaggots but it was still a show about movies nonetheless. and hey! even after all the other shows were phased out in 2016, there was still something for everyone on the caddicarus channel! don't like the monty python madness on the caddicarus show? check out the slower-paced caddy show instead! don't like video games? well, cinemaggots is the show for you!
season 8 was still great, but it wasn't as great as the two preceding it. well, surely things can only get better, right...?
season 9 was...a season alright.
sure, after re-evaluation i like it a bit more, but at the time...woof.
and this, my friends...is where i personally thought the cracks began to show.
i was thinking to myself at the ages of 15-16 in 2017-18 - why does jim feel like he needs to appeal to everyone? yeah, he has to make money and pump out these videos to feed his family, but is that really working? look at these view counts! they don't even begin to halfway reach the sub count! people aren't tuning in like they used to! the charm is going away! does jim not realize that the caddicarus show used to be an event? in 2014-15, if i got a notification on my phone for a caddicarus upload that said "... - caddicarus" at the end of the title, my ass dropped EVERYTHING i was doing. the caddicarus show was SERIOUS business.
who in god's name was itching to watch drive thru reviews?? film fridays?? tinker time?? most people who subbed to caddy were coming for the caddicarus show. but when he makes it weekly, not only does the feeling of it being an event go away, but it becomes routine and formulaic along with the other shows. every episode has the same structure, with these repeated jokes sprinkled in. "here's a crappy kids' game, here's me analyzing it in-depth for 20 minutes, obligatory content creator friend saying 'CADDY i played this WRETCHED game on my OWN channel, PLEASE caddy you are going to DIE if you play this', obligatory miluk reference, obligatory side character cameo for obligatory lore, here's me shooting the crappy kids' game, please remember to stay beautiful." this mindset is ultimately weakening the show. i can guarantee if he changed up his format and made the caddicarus show fortnightly or monthly again, the quality could go up AND his mental health would improve. please jim. we're worried about you.
...ok, those weren't my exact words. but i'll participate in a family prayer before i show y'all direct excerpts from my 2017-18 caddicarus random book on wattpad.
but those were still the thoughts that were brewing in my head. i was campaigning for monthly caddicarus episodes on my wattpad, i was always worried whenever he'd talk about his mental health. i thought that the schedule wasn't only hurting the video quality, but also him.
and...my suspicions were correct.
caddy has talked about this on many streams, interviews, and convention panels, such as the arlo podcast and this final fantasy stream; this work mindset absolutely destroyed him. paraphrasing these interviews and panels and streams, he would have mental breakdowns where he'd shut himself away from his family and the internet. he was making videos just for the sake of making them.
of course, when i was 14-16, this stuff wasn't really public knowledge yet. but i looked at clues such as the sub rate which began to stagnate as soon as late 2015, and the view counts of videos which began to suffer. caddy had thought he needed to pump out more videos to have his channel perform better, which obviously wasn't the case. he was stuck at 500k for over two years...these days, he takes about 8-9 months to gain 100k subs.
so now that i know a lot more, i understand fully why the quality of the show slipped.
i stopped watching in march 2019...and from what i was being told by a fandom friend who kept updating me on what was happening, things weren't really improving as much. december 2019 was one of his worst months for mental health. looking at this capture of his socialblade, he was bleeding subs in may 2019 and it was one of his worst months yet. that same month, he published the now-unlisted PUBG video, which was extremely divisive. it was also the same month where he tried to start a new film review show that he quickly pulled because he realized he was about to fall into the trap of having multiple shows again. and according to this community post and this video, he almost shut down the channel twice in 2019 because of how poorly it was performing.
needless to say, i stayed very worried about him throughout that year while i was pursuing other fandom endeavors. i would just feel sad watching the view counts deteriorate.
this quote from one of the community posts i linked says a lot:
As it turns out, this was more a strategic early move to save myself over anything. I know exactly how I get when I get overworked, and it isn't good. Uninspired, stressed, rushed, even sick - so before I got too into it and allowed to to negatively affect the Caddicarus Show, I nipped the movie review series in the bud before it could get too out of control. I REALLY need to stop letting these ideas get to my head. If I feel inspire to create more, PLEASE remind me to channel that ALL into Caddicarus. I'm insane.
this was EXACTLY my concern with the channel...and here it was being said back to us by the man himself.
i never said a word to him about this stuff. i never tried to get attention, i was never overly angry about it, i just had criticism. but this answer from the 2022 TMG panel just confirms to me that caddy had these same thoughts all this time since 2016...but he couldn't act on them because of the financial situation. and that combined with the mental health stuff...it feels kinda weird looking back on certain years of the show, especially 2019. when i think about the shit caddy was dealing with during the time, it kinda taints them.
here's a comment from jim in the replies of a top comment on the behind the scenes episode. the comment in question was a person reminiscing about the older videos and wishing caddy didn't rag on them so much:
Tumblr media
there's a lot of confusion as to why those older videos are tagged as such. but they're tagged for a reason. and it's not just because of the video quality. trust me, i was confused and irritated when i saw he'd done that, but after returning, i started to understand. of course, i don't support him straight up privating or deleting them, but simply tagging them is a good compromise. the thing is, a lot of us have amazing memories with these older videos. and i recall him making a tweet that went something like "the more i hear about my older videos the more i want to delete them", and all the lumpies and germs promptly began telling him "DON'T."
so, the 2016-19 era was pretty rough. but it's good knowing that things did get better from there. jim went through so much adversity and bullshit and it paid off astoundingly. this channel has seen hell, been through hell, and crawled out of hell before its putrid hands could pull it back in. caddy adapted, learned to game the system, stopped caring about numbers and staying relevant, and proceeded to create the best videos he's ever done...while rejuvenating his channel in the process. it had returned to a 2014-like community and sub rate...the sense of community that 15-16 year old me had longed to return. the loving community had faded away after the 2016 changes and i missed it so.
and just how rejuvenated was his channel? well...
just this past august - one day after my 8th anniversary of becoming a fan - he achieved what a lot of us in the fanbase thought was impossible for years. for a while, it looked like he'd never reach it. but with all his determination, resilience, and strength...he made it. and my god, i am so glad i was able to watch all this history unfold.
you are amazing, jim. 💜

Another essay/review I made. Pretty unique one too if I say so myself.
Something that I don't think gets enough recognition in media is characters that didn't have much screentime but we're incredibly memorable nonetheless. And I'm here to show off some of my favorite examples of this. The nanto seiken master: shin and the user of the emperor: hol horse.
HOL HORSE
Out of all the part 3 JoJo villains, aside from Dio and maybe vanilla ice, hol horse is definitely the most popular with fans. Now there is crazy diamonds demonic heartbreak (I think that's what it's called?) But I haven't read that so I'll just stick with the main series. Hol horse only appears in 4 out of the over 40 episodes of stardust crusaders but he still made a crazy impact with his character in the sea of other minor villains.
His stand: the emperor is a type of stand that's really unique and I can't think of any that are quite like it. The closest one is Anubis but even then Anubis was more of the stand user than the actual stand. It's a gun that's a stand. I don't need to explain why that's awesome. But I will anyway. A gun with infinite ammo and the bullets can be controlled to go anywhere. That is a kickass concept that is taken advantage of in the fight scenes he's in.
The fight with centerfold and polnareff is probably one of the best fights on stardust crusaders pre battle in Egypt. The combination of hanged man and emperor made a pretty interesting and exciting situation for polnareff and kakyoin and even served as a bit of character development for polnareff with the (fake out) death of avdol and one of the cooler kakyoin moments with the (actual) death of centerfold.
And the (kind of) fight with boingo/mondatta was a good amount of light hearted fun in contrast with the constant threat of Dio and the potential death of holly. That part with horse man holding polnareff up at gunpoint always makes me die laughing.
Plus in some ways, Mr. Horse goes through his own mini character arc. Goes from working with someone as evil as centerfold to kill polnareff either because of the money or just for the sake of it, to trying to betray Dio from how sick he is of his shit to hospital because he got his ass shot by his own gun, to whatever happens in the josuke thing but again I'm not talking about that.
Hol horse is a great part of jojo and one of the best examples of a memorable character with little screentime. But how about the other side of this coin? What about the very first major antagonist of my absolute favorite story of all time?
SHIN
Consider this part 3 of my endless shilling for fist of the north star. (Part 1 and 2: https://www.reddit.com/r/CharacterRant/comments/q30mop/i_absolutely_love_kenshiro_and_he_is_one_of_if/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
https://www.reddit.com/r/CharacterRant/comments/s6u32s/the_fangs_arc_is_the_greatest_arc_i_have_seen_in/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)
If hol horse was one of the best examples of a memorable character with little screentime, shin is THE best example. Again I'm only going off the original series. In this case the manga. So no movies or side series's or whatever.
The main reason I believe shin is better than hol horse is because of how little he actually appears in the manga. To put it into perspective, hol horse appeared in episode 10/11 of the first half of the part and episode 12/13 of the second half. The first time shin is even mentioned is about half way through chapter 6 and is noscoped at the end of chapter 10. Less than 5 fucking chapters with this guy and he feels infinitely more developed than anyone in dozens of other animes/mangas I have seen.
Like hol horse, shins fighting style: nanto seiken is an incredibly unique power. Unlike hokuto shinken which is focused on destroying the victim from the inside, nanto seiken is focused on destroying the victim from the outside by just slicing them to pieces like blades with just the users hands. I don't know how you can get a cooler martial art than that (aside from hokuto shinken of course)
Shin is also very good at playing both sides of the villain coin. On the one hand he's great as a Dio type MENACING over the top crazy villain with the actions he does plus his personality but also great at the sympathetic and tragic type villain with his backstory and the death of yuria.
And the fight with kenshiro he has is one of the greatest fights I've seen in any manga. It's so well drawn and has so much emotion to it that it trounces every other fight scene in almost every other anime/manga in both ways.
The fight and shin as a whole also serves a lot for kenshiros character. His whole character is about loss and shin is kind of the thing that sets it all off with the indirect killing of yuria who was the only one kenshiro truly loved and who loved kenshiro. And shin killed all of that when he bullied kenshiro at first and stole yuria from him.
Shin is one of my favorite antagonists in manga and the absolute best example I can think of when talking about characters that made a big impact with short time in the spotlight.
But that's only 2 characters. What are some memorable characters that you can think of that didn't have much screentime? Hell, how about the opposite of this? What about characters that have the majority of screentime but are ultra bland and boring? I want to what you all have to say.

Are Ed and Liz Still Together: 90 Day Fiancé's Big Ed & Liz Woods Show Relationship Bliss
Tumblr media
Are Ed and Liz Still Together: On the 90 Day Fiance reality show, Big Ed and Liz are a fan favorite. They were trying to get a K-1 visa, which would allow the man to marry his foreign fiancee and allow her to come to the United States. The wedding took place within the visa application's required 90-day window. Since the show's first episode aired, they'd both been receiving a lot of attention. Big Ed's current TV appearance is in the spin-off of 90 Days Fiance called The Single Life. Recent social media activity by Liz, including the posting and subsequent removal of a photo, may indicate that she and her boyfriend have broken up.
Are Ed and Liz still together in 2022?
Big Ed Brown and Liz Woods' relationship is one of the most tumultuous in the 90 Day Fiancé franchise, but the two were able to share some tender moments in 2022. Despite Big Ed's status as a series villain, the pair stars in the current season of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? Big Ed and Liz have had their share of ups and downs over the past year, but they've also shared some truly wonderful moments together. There are a lot of 90-Day Fiancé couples with age differences, but Liz and Big Ed stand out for being particularly unusual. Big Ed's daughter is much older than 90 Day: The Single Life's Liz. When Liz initially showed no interest in Big Ed, rumors began to circulate that he was stalking her in order to make her dependent on him. Despite his persistent pursuit of Liz, he has dumped her a total of eight times via text. After seeing this, many people have called for Liz to leave Big Ed. Despite all of the warning signs, Liz is still set on marrying Big Ed.

Nonetheless, they can't seem to stay away from one another. In September, Big Ed posted two photos of himself and Liz to Instagram, both of which featured the couple smiling broadly and enjoying the outdoors. It was obvious that the on-again, off-again couple was still together because Liz was wearing a huge engagement ring. She's cried a lot on Happily Ever After, Liz says. She appeared to be smiling in the pictures, though. That photo captured one of the many touching moments they've shared together.
Casting Big Ed Brown and Liz Woods for More 90 Day Fiancé Films
Season 7 of Happily Ever After has not been good for Big Ed and Liz. In spite of this, their promotional photographs turned out admirably. Although Big Ed and Liz's fights on 90 Day Fiancé may have been staged, the couple appeared happy in promotional photos for the show. This sort of joy has been underrepresented in the 90-Day Fiancé spinoff. The question of whether or not they are acting out their problems for the camera has also been raised by many viewers. The 2022 goals of the fame-obsessed couple were realized when they were offered the spin-off show.

Know How Old Is Scott's Wife! A large portion of the 90 Day Fiancé viewership believes that Liz and Big Ed are only together for the sake of their careers and the show's narrative. But on Liz's Instagram, they had a genuine and touching moment that was captured by the camera. Celebrity "90 Day Fiancé" star Liz posted photos from an early September trip to Arkansas on Instagram, likely to visit Big Ed's family there. Perhaps, husband and wife, Big Ed and Liz pose with their daughter. The two looked good together, and they dressed appropriately for the occasion. Some viewers of "90 Day Fiancé" hope that Liz finds happiness regardless of whether she stays with "Big Ed."
