#this is like SUCH a complex topic with many layers and implications

my thing is, she can call us out, we can call her out, it’s all fair game. I know I like her and her music and at the same time can acknowledge she has her limitations as a v privileged white woman. stan culture takes away the nuance. like is it a little annoying to me that she calls herself a “simple girl” when it’s convenient but she’s also the mastermind who thinks about everything? yes. is bdilh fun and funny? also yes
it's not just stan culture, it's moral purity culture as well. i've said this before, but many people look to celebrities for moral purity and action because they feel disenfranchised, and they can't get actual lawmakers to do what they want (which is the real bad part!)... and we live in a world where celebrities are elevated to such a degree that they have enormous power and influence. and that's also wrong!
like... taylor sometimes probably thinks to herself, "if i'm so bad, why are you still listening and buying my shit?" she's been raised up and down the flagpole of public opinion (her words) so many times, but the public keeps coming back for more. of course she thinks much of it is total bullshit. BECAUSE IT IS fjakdls
i think those tracks on ttpd are her way of saying to stop bringing that shit to her. she's going to do what she wants. it's up to individuals to decide where the line is. which has always been the case, but she's being very explicit about it now i suppose.

I think people need to be reminded that media literacy is an actual, extremely important thing and not just a fancy buzzword people throw around to look smart.
Media literacy is completely and unarguably absolutely vital in order for you to engage with media at all, not just extremely complex ones, and I am being dead serious. You cannot constantly refuse to actually think about something. You cannot refuse to read between the lines. You cannot refuse to actually use your brain when interacting with media, especially it actually is based around nuance and dark/uncomfortable topics.
You can't make everything black and white, and you can't refuse to ever thoughtfully engage with anything. Not only does it make you immature, but it also makes you extremely easy to manipulate. No one, and I mean NO ONE is immune to propaganda, but it is especially dangerous for people who can't even recognize that what they're seeing is propaganda in the first place. This is not a debate. If you cannot understand basic media literacy and analysis, then you are even more vulnerable to getting swept up in some really sinister shit because you simply couldn't recognize the red flags and took everything at face value, or deliberately refused to actually think about any other possible implications.
People who refuse to learn media literacy and understand why certain pieces of art exist and are important are a massive reason for things like book bannings. Why do you think books like Lolita are still so controversial and still has so many people insisting that it romanticizes child sexual abuse? It's because they refuse to actually read the fucking book and really think about what it's trying to say, and how it's saying it.
Or if you want a more online example, why do you think fandoms for really heavy and mature pieces of media still have people that refuse to acknowledge and talk about the actual media and its messages, metaphors, etc? Why do you think so many people grossly misinterpret and misrepresent characters and stories that have any amount of nuance or development? They refuse to accept that media is not, nor should it always be "easily digestible" or "comfortable"
Believe it or not, sometimes art is SUPPOSED to make you uncomfortable. Sometimes art is SUPPOSED to make you rethink yourself and your own ideologies and world views. Sometimes art is SUPPOSED to have a message in the story it tells, and that message needs to be analyzed and talked about in an actually meaningful and mature way.
You don't get to just ignore the entire point of more heavy and mature media just because it's uncomfortable for you, or because "you just aren't good at media literacy" or because "all you know is your little blorbos" or whatever the fuck. You do not get to sweep meaningful and extremely valuable stories aside and ignore everything about them other than makes you comfortable.
And don't even try to say "But that's what fandom does, that's to be expected!" because that is not the winning defense that you think it is. Tell me, do you truly believe that it's good, constructive, and healthy to have massive groups of people all sharing the same incorrect and potentially harmful information and incorrect readings of something that is meant to have a real point and message? Do you really think that it's a good thing that people are refusing to read into heavier and more mature works just because "They're too silly for media analysis uwu"? Do you genuinely believe that that sort of space is going to lead to anything good? "It's just how fandom is!" is not an excuse for you to refuse to use your goddamn brain and actually think critically about a piece of media for once.
If you don't want to talk and think about such heavy stuff, then find a different piece of media. Find something that's more to your tastes than bastardizing and spreading misinformation about something that is supposed to be layered, nuanced, and yes, even uncomfortable. Don't come into a community for a piece of media that is mature and nuanced and get pissy when people are discussing that media in a mature and nuanced way. Take a second to think that maybe you aren't the person that this media is for, actually.
Don't be surprised when people get annoyed with you for refusing to actually use your brain when engaging with something. Don't be surprised when people tell you that it's not funny or cute that you don't understand the basics of metaphors, symbolism, or allegories. Don't be surprised when people tell you that a piece of media is not for you because you refuse to actually appreciate and respect it for what it actually is, and instead turn it into something completely different.
Sometimes there is a reason that the curtains are blue, and you're gonna have to learn to accept that. The world isn't black and white, and neither is the art that people make.
Don't get mad at other people for actually acknowledging that and talking about it.

Yuno phone case analysis
(mentions of pregnancy, death and abortion)
Tumblr media
First and foremost, let's just admire this phone case and how, despite being simple, is very pretty! Yuno has great taste!
Okay, now into the analysis!
~Flowers~
Ar first, I had a quiet hard time deciding if these flowers were daisies or chamomile, due to the fact that both look pretty much alike. However, I noticed that on Yuno's phone case, the flowers don't have just one layer of petals as a chamomile would have, so that means that these should be daisies.
Tumblr media
~Daisies 🌼 - meanings~
Tumblr media
Based on this we can already make the correlation with Yuno. The fact that even the phone case showed us that she was pregnant as though the DNA stairs and balloons weren't enough amazes me!
Tumblr media
The "innocence and purity" are the traits that Yuno is putting up for her clients. The facade she is putting up front in hopes that she will find "warmth". Although the literal implications this word has, for example physical intimacy, because of how complex Yuno character's is I always associated it with more. Yuno desires to find someone with who she can be herself, she wants honesty and compassion. Despite that by doing compensated dating she receives some warmth, this is all temporary and she knows it too. That's why she continues to do it in hopes of finding someone that will knowledge her wishes and will make her truly happy.
She dislikes people that tell others what to do and judge their peers constantly when they are not themselves perfect. In her second VD she opens up this topic and tells Es that she only kept a secret that she participates in compensated dating, because it is not morally accepted by others. Again, it points out at her facade and the fact that she can't be herself, because of the fear of being constantly judged or, worse, treated coldly.
Tumblr media
The legend depicted in the picture below makes a reference to the abortions that Yuno had. Daisies are a symbol of sorrow for the dead infants or children.
Tumblr media
(It refers to the Victorian era; sorry for not putting the complete picture, but the contents there were quiet boring to read)
This likely refers to how Yuno has hidden from the rest of her acquaitances that she is participating in compensated dating, but also to the fact that she didn't tell anyone that she was pregnant. The purse on her stomach at the amusement park, and the glass of water instead of wine, are great examples for that!
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
I think this paragraph is an indicator to the fact that Yuno let go of her "past"(abortions) and after each abortion she is "renewed" and can continue with her compensated dating and be happy again(at the end of the first MV she is facing forward looking at the destroyed stairs, welcoming a new beginning in her life) . Also, it shows that Yuno doesn't care that much about her verdict. She forgave herself for what she has done, and that's all it matters. Es's verdict will not cause any changes in how she acts or what she is doing with her life.
"It is believed that the word "daisy" is derived from the Old English saying, "day’s eye." This is because many of the flowers that we commonly call daisies close at night and open in the early morning sunlight."
This is me overanalyzing stuff, but it can be interpreted as Yuno "opening up" for her clients to come at her, she welcomes them giving affection. All the moments during the day are shown as her being "happy" and doing fun activities with her clients. Also it could mean that during the day she enjoys more of this superficial love and warmth. During the night though, Yuno is "closing up". It's a moment when she actually contemplates and thinks if she is satisfied with her life so far. The second MV portraits this very well, because during the night she is shown sad and alone. The colours are no longer warmth, but instead cold and depressing.
Tumblr media
"Several species of daisies produce a high amount of nectar, making them attractive to pollinators. You can expect the garden favorites, bees, and butterflies, as well as a host of other pollinators in your daisy patch."
Thinking of Yuno as the daisy and the pollinators are the clients it basically explains us the compensated dating part. The clients are attracted by her, while she is waiting for them with open arms. Also, most flowers need pollinators so they can reproduce, daisies being no exception, so it could be again a symbol of pregnancy.
Also a legend if anyone is interested! I thought it made a good reference to the beginning of Yuno's second MV, due to the teardrop part! But it's just something additional so you can skip it!
"The ancient Greeks also associated their goddess Astraea with daisy flowers. According to one Greek legend, during the Iron Age, humans began to make a lot of weapons and warfare increased. Incensed with the violence, Zeus decided to destroy the world of men with a great flood. But before he did, the gods, who had been living on Earth, left. The goddess Astraea was the last to leave. Heartbroken at the loss of life, she asked Zeus to turn her into a star.
Eventually, the flood waters receded. But all that was left of the world was mud and slime. Seeing the destruction, Astraea wept, and her tears fell as stardust. When they hit the land, they turned into daisy flowers."

Thank you for reading! ~🌼

orv spoilers ahead
something something kdj is so affected by his childhood trauma that he hates kim namwoon because he hates how he can see himself in knw, the first scenario not only evens the playing field ("everyone in this world is a murderer") given kdj killed his father (in self defense. unrelated but i have to include this lest i misrepresent him), but further deepens his own guilt and distance from everyone else since even with king of no killing, its- borrowed, in a way. stories becoming reality, and though his actions are lauded by others in the first scenario, undoubtedly he has that guilt while hearing others compliment him on finding a way to get out of the situation without murdering a person. BUT on the FLIP side, this scenario also sets the groundwork for a later forgiveness of himself, his actions being different here establish exactly how far he was driven when he was younger
tbh im just starting my orv reread but this scenario and everything going on with lee sookyung is also so relevant in context of how kdj views himself. it isnt outwardly stated but a large factor- due to kdj's self sacrifice- in their relationship isnt only kdj's denial and his focus on stories, but also kdj's self-hatred. he hates that his mother wrote the book not just for its exposure, but that she has the same self-sacrificual tendency as him- and that it makes it even harder for him to sacrifice himself for her in turn, because he cant do anything to save her now. its a very complex situation and i dont want to oversimplify their relationship- some of the emotions are clearly straightforward. but kdj is a notoriously unreliable narrator with a trend of self hateed, and orv itself is metatextualy implied to be a reconstruction of his pov through his interactions with other characters- his viewpoint colors so much of the story, but he isnt an author. his choice to write his own story has been taken from him, just as lee sookyung chose to write their story before he could- and in doing so, protected and saved him, albeit in different ways.
how many books have been written solely for him? his mother's book, ways of survival, orv- three books written just for him, at least. and like- lee sookyung deserves way more prominence in fanworks tbh because the situation she was in is an unbearable one, and the relationship she has with her son strained at times, but- and this is vitally important- it is complex, and done out of love, and like. so much of orv is about accepting the past, acknowledging it cant be changed, but also helping you come to terms with the ideavthat unfortunate things, malicious things, happen. sometimes situations suck. but in those situations you are still human. you are still full of worth regardless of the actions you have been forced to do, of the ways you have had to survive- but also, to remember to keep choosing to do what you can, and that you have to make that choice.
theres so many fucking layers to this book. i could pick any one topic and write a full research essay on how orv tackles it. genuinely, it is a masterpiece that comments clearly on so many topics- and more besides that i havent even picked up on im sure! and besides what is explicitly written, theres so many layers of implication, of potential interpretation, of cultural weight and literary tie-ins, of symbolism and allegory and constructed metaphors/similes, that for every sentence written there is another five of potential explanation behind them. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

A VPN, or Virtual Private Network, encrypts your internet connection and routes it through a server in a location of your choice. By doing so, you can mask your real IP address and make it appear as if you are accessing the internet from a different region where Crunchyroll content may be available.
When it comes to using a VPN with Crunchyroll, it is important to choose a reliable service that offers servers in the desired location. Not all VPNs are capable of bypassing Crunchyroll's geo-restrictions, so it is crucial to select a VPN provider that actively works to ensure compatibility with streaming services like Crunchyroll.
Furthermore, users should be aware that accessing geo-blocked content using a VPN may go against Crunchyroll's terms of service. While using a VPN to access Crunchyroll content from a different region is a popular workaround, users should proceed with caution and understand the potential risks involved.
In conclusion, VPN compatibility with Crunchyroll can be a useful tool for accessing restricted content, but it is essential to choose a reputable VPN provider and be aware of the implications of bypassing geo-blocks.
Using VPN to access Crunchyroll
Using a VPN to access Crunchyroll is a common practice among anime fans who want to bypass geo-restrictions, protect their online privacy, and access content not available in their region. Crunchyroll is a popular streaming service that offers a wide range of anime, manga, and dorama series to viewers worldwide. However, due to licensing restrictions, certain content may be restricted in some countries.
A VPN, or Virtual Private Network, allows users to connect to a server located in a different country, thus masking their actual location and enabling them to access content that may be restricted in their region. By using a VPN to connect to a server in a country where Crunchyroll content is available, users can bypass geo-blocks and enjoy their favorite shows without limitations.
In addition to accessing restricted content, using a VPN with Crunchyroll can also enhance online security and privacy. VPNs encrypt internet traffic, protecting users' data from potential hackers, ISPs, and other prying eyes. This added layer of security can be especially beneficial when streaming content or engaging in other online activities that require privacy and anonymity.
Overall, using a VPN to access Crunchyroll offers anime enthusiasts a convenient and secure way to enjoy their favorite shows without restrictions. Whether you're looking to access geo-blocked content, enhance your online privacy, or simply enjoy a seamless streaming experience, a VPN can be a valuable tool for unlocking the full potential of Crunchyroll.
VPN restrictions on Crunchyroll
VPN restrictions on Crunchyroll
Crunchyroll, the popular streaming platform for anime and manga content, has implemented VPN (Virtual Private Network) restrictions to protect its licensing agreements and ensure compliance with regional copyright laws. VPNs allow users to bypass geographical restrictions by masking their IP addresses, granting access to content that may be restricted in their region. However, Crunchyroll, like many other streaming services, has cracked down on VPN usage due to concerns about content licensing and copyright infringement.
The primary reason for VPN restrictions on Crunchyroll is to enforce licensing agreements with content providers. Anime distribution involves complex licensing arrangements that vary from region to region. By restricting access to content based on geographic location, Crunchyroll can ensure that it complies with the terms of these agreements and respects the rights of content creators and distributors.
Additionally, VPN restrictions help Crunchyroll prevent unauthorized access to its content library. While VPNs can be useful for protecting user privacy and security, they can also be used to circumvent subscription requirements and access content without proper authorization. By limiting VPN usage, Crunchyroll can safeguard its revenue streams and maintain a sustainable business model.
Despite these restrictions, there are still ways for users to access Crunchyroll content from restricted regions. Some VPN providers offer servers that can bypass Crunchyroll's restrictions, although users should be aware that this may violate the platform's terms of service. Alternatively, users can explore legal alternatives such as purchasing content through other platforms or waiting for licensed releases in their region.
In conclusion, VPN restrictions on Crunchyroll are implemented to uphold licensing agreements, prevent unauthorized access, and protect the rights of content creators. While these restrictions may inconvenience some users, they are necessary for Crunchyroll to operate within legal and ethical boundaries.
Legality of VPN for Crunchyroll
Title: Exploring the Legality of Using VPNs for Crunchyroll: What You Need to Know
With the growing popularity of online streaming platforms like Crunchyroll, many users are turning to Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to access geo-restricted content. However, there's often confusion surrounding the legality of using VPNs for this purpose, particularly when it comes to services like Crunchyroll.
The legality of using a VPN for Crunchyroll largely depends on the terms of service set by the streaming platform and the laws of the country you reside in. While VPNs themselves are legal in most countries, using them to bypass geo-restrictions may violate Crunchyroll's terms of service.
Crunchyroll typically licenses its content for specific regions due to copyright agreements with content creators and distributors. When users employ a VPN to access content from a different region than the one they are located in, they are essentially circumventing these agreements. This can potentially infringe upon copyright laws and breach the platform's terms of use.
However, it's essential to note that the legality of using a VPN for Crunchyroll varies from one jurisdiction to another. In some countries, there may be no explicit laws prohibiting the use of VPNs to access geo-blocked content. In others, there may be legal consequences for such actions.
Ultimately, while using a VPN to access Crunchyroll content from another region may technically violate the platform's terms of service, the legal implications for individual users are often minimal. Crunchyroll's primary concern is usually with preventing piracy and ensuring compliance with copyright laws.
In conclusion, while using a VPN to access Crunchyroll content from different regions may raise legal and ethical questions, the actual consequences for users are typically limited. However, it's essential for users to be aware of the potential risks and to make informed decisions based on their understanding of the legal landscape in their jurisdiction.
VPN alternatives for Crunchyroll
Title: Exploring Alternatives to VPNs for Accessing Crunchyroll Content
Crunchyroll, the popular streaming platform for anime, manga, and Asian dramas, is a favorite among enthusiasts worldwide. However, due to geo-restrictions, accessing its full library may be challenging for some users. While VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) have been a go-to solution for bypassing these restrictions, there are alternative methods worth exploring.
Proxy Servers: Similar to VPNs, proxy servers route your internet traffic through a different location, allowing you to bypass regional restrictions. However, unlike VPNs, proxies often offer less security and encryption.
Smart DNS Services: Smart DNS services, such as Unlocator and SmartDNSProxy, reroute your DNS queries, making it appear as if you're accessing Crunchyroll from a permitted location. They are often faster than VPNs since they don't encrypt your data, but they may not provide the same level of privacy.
Browser Extensions: Some browser extensions, like Hola VPN and ZenMate, offer free or freemium services that allow users to change their virtual location. However, they may not be as reliable or secure as dedicated VPN or DNS services.
Content Aggregators: Some websites aggregate content from various streaming platforms, including Crunchyroll, and offer it for free. While this may seem like a convenient option, it's essential to consider the legality and potential risks associated with accessing copyrighted content through such platforms.
Official Alternatives: Crunchyroll occasionally offers free trials or discounted subscriptions in certain regions. Keep an eye out for promotional offers and official channels for accessing Crunchyroll content legally.
Ultimately, while VPNs have traditionally been the go-to solution for accessing geo-blocked content, exploring alternative methods such as proxy servers, Smart DNS services, browser extensions, and official alternatives can provide viable options for enjoying Crunchyroll's extensive library from anywhere in the world. However, it's crucial to prioritize privacy, security, and legality when choosing an alternative method.

don't use stealth vpn in china
VPN detection in China
In China, the use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) has long been a cat-and-mouse game between users seeking unrestricted internet access and government authorities attempting to control online content. The Great Firewall of China, a sophisticated system of internet censorship, blocks access to numerous websites and online services deemed politically sensitive or inappropriate. However, many tech-savvy individuals and businesses employ VPNs to bypass these restrictions and access the global internet.
VPN detection in China involves the government's ongoing efforts to identify and block VPN usage. While VPNs encrypt internet traffic, making it difficult for third parties to intercept or monitor, Chinese authorities have developed advanced methods to detect and block VPN connections. These techniques include deep packet inspection (DPI), which analyzes data packets to identify VPN protocols, and IP address blocking, targeting known VPN servers.
To evade detection, VPN providers continually update their services with features like obfuscated servers and stealth protocols, which disguise VPN traffic to appear like regular internet traffic. Some users also employ additional tools, such as proxy servers or Tor, to further obfuscate their online activities.
Despite these measures, VPN detection in China remains an ongoing challenge for both users and providers. The government regularly updates its censorship tactics, leading to a constant game of cat-and-mouse between VPN developers and authorities. As a result, users must stay vigilant and adapt to changing circumstances to maintain access to the global internet.
In conclusion, VPN detection in China represents a complex and ever-evolving landscape shaped by government censorship efforts and technological innovation. While VPNs offer a means to bypass internet restrictions, users must navigate a range of obstacles to ensure their online privacy and freedom.
Risks of stealth VPN in China
In China, the use of VPNs has become increasingly popular among individuals seeking to bypass censorship and access blocked websites. While VPNs offer a layer of privacy and security, there are risks associated with using stealth VPNs in particular.
Stealth VPNs are designed to disguise VPN traffic as regular HTTPS traffic, making it harder for authorities to detect and block VPN usage. However, the Chinese government has been cracking down on VPNs, including stealth VPNs, and using them can still pose significant risks.
One of the primary concerns of using stealth VPNs in China is the potential legal consequences. The government has strict regulations on internet usage, and using VPNs to circumvent censorship is considered illegal. Engaging in such activities could result in fines, imprisonment, or other serious penalties.
Another risk of using stealth VPNs in China is the lack of transparency regarding the VPN provider's data handling practices. Some VPN providers may log user data or share it with third parties, compromising user privacy and security.
Moreover, using stealth VPNs can also lead to performance issues, as the encryption and obfuscation of VPN traffic can slow down internet speeds.
In conclusion, while stealth VPNs may offer a way to access the open internet in restrictive environments like China, users should be aware of the risks involved. It is crucial to understand the legal implications, choose a reputable VPN provider with a strict no-logs policy, and weigh the trade-offs between privacy and performance when using stealth VPNs in China.
China's VPN censorship measures
China's VPN censorship measures have been a topic of global interest due to the government's strict control over internet access within the country. Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) have long been used by individuals and businesses in China to bypass the Great Firewall, allowing them to access restricted websites and services.
In recent years, China has significantly intensified its efforts to crack down on VPN usage. The government has imposed regulations requiring VPN providers to obtain a license to operate in the country, effectively limiting the availability of VPN services to Chinese users. Additionally, many popular VPN applications have been removed from app stores, making it challenging for individuals to download and install VPN software.
The Chinese government justifies its VPN censorship measures by citing concerns about national security and the need to regulate internet access. By tightly controlling the flow of information through the internet, China aims to prevent the spread of dissenting voices and maintain social stability.
While the VPN censorship measures have made it more difficult for individuals in China to access unrestricted information online, many tech-savvy users continue to find ways to circumvent the restrictions. Some turn to alternative VPN services that are still operational in the country, while others resort to more advanced methods like setting up their VPN servers.
Overall, China's VPN censorship measures highlight the ongoing battle between government control and individual freedom in the digital age. As technology continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how effective these measures will be in curbing the use of VPNs and controlling online content within China.
Alternatives to stealth VPN in China
China's strict internet censorship often poses challenges for individuals looking to access blocked websites and services. While many people turn to stealth VPNs as a means to bypass these restrictions, there are also alternative methods that can be explored to achieve similar results.
One popular alternative to stealth VPNs in China is the use of proxy servers. Proxy servers act as intermediaries between a user's device and the internet, allowing users to access blocked content through a different IP address. While they may not offer the same level of security and encryption as VPNs, proxy servers can still be effective in circumventing censorship.
Another option for individuals in China is the use of Tor (The Onion Router) network. Tor routes internet traffic through a series of volunteer-operated servers, encrypting the data at each step. This helps users to surf the web anonymously and access blocked content without being easily traced. However, it is important to note that Tor can sometimes be slower than VPNs or proxy servers due to the routing process.
Additionally, individuals can explore the option of using DNS (Domain Name System) tunneling to bypass censorship in China. DNS tunneling involves encapsulating internet traffic within DNS queries and responses, making it harder for censors to detect and block. While this method requires technical knowledge to set up, it can be an effective alternative for those looking to access restricted content.
In conclusion, while stealth VPNs are commonly used to bypass internet censorship in China, there are several alternative methods available for individuals to explore. From proxy servers and Tor networks to DNS tunneling, there are various options for users to access blocked websites and services in a secure and anonymous manner.
Legal implications of using VPN in China
Using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) in China comes with a myriad of legal implications, largely due to the stringent internet regulations enforced by the government. While VPNs are commonly used to bypass censorship and access restricted content, their usage in China is closely monitored and regulated.
The primary legal concern when using a VPN in China revolves around the government's strict internet censorship laws. The Great Firewall of China blocks access to numerous websites and online services deemed politically sensitive or harmful to national security. By using a VPN to circumvent these restrictions, individuals risk violating these laws and facing severe penalties.
In 2017, China enacted regulations requiring VPN providers to obtain government approval and operate under state supervision. This has led to the shutdown of many VPN services that fail to comply with these regulations, further complicating the legal landscape for VPN users in China.
Additionally, the Chinese government has been known to actively block VPN protocols and IP addresses, making it increasingly difficult for individuals to access unrestricted internet through VPNs. Despite these obstacles, some tech-savvy users continue to find ways to evade detection and use VPNs to access the open internet.
However, it's crucial for individuals in China to understand the potential legal consequences of using VPNs. Penalties for violating internet censorship laws can range from fines and administrative penalties to imprisonment, especially for those involved in disseminating politically sensitive information or engaging in illegal online activities.
In conclusion, while VPNs can provide a means to bypass internet censorship in China, users must be aware of the legal risks involved. It's essential to exercise caution and consider the potential consequences before using a VPN in a country with strict internet regulations like China.

To address these challenges and ensure secure remote access, several strategies can be employed:
Virtual Private Network (VPN): Utilizing a reputable VPN service is essential for encrypting internet traffic and bypassing censorship measures. US workers in China should invest in a VPN that offers robust encryption protocols and reliable server connections to maintain privacy and security.
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): Implementing MFA adds an extra layer of security by requiring users to provide multiple forms of verification before accessing corporate networks. This helps mitigate the risk of unauthorized access, especially in regions with heightened cybersecurity concerns like China.
Secure Communication Tools: Encrypted messaging and collaboration platforms, such as Signal or Slack, should be used for sensitive communications to prevent interception or surveillance. US workers should avoid using unsecured channels like email for transmitting confidential information.
Regular Security Updates and Training: Companies should prioritize ongoing cybersecurity training for employees working remotely in China, educating them about potential threats and best practices for maintaining secure access. Additionally, ensuring all software and security protocols are up-to-date helps mitigate vulnerabilities.
By implementing these measures, US workers can navigate the complexities of remote access in China while safeguarding sensitive data and maintaining productivity. Prioritizing cybersecurity and compliance is essential in today's digital landscape, especially for remote workers operating in challenging environments like China.
Virtual Private Network requirement for US professionals in China
As a US professional working in China, utilizing a Virtual Private Network (VPN) is crucial for various reasons. Due to China's strict internet regulations and censorship policies, accessing certain websites and online services that are commonly used in the US may be restricted or monitored. By using a VPN, you can bypass these restrictions and securely connect to servers outside of China, allowing you to access the online content you need for your work.
Additionally, a VPN enhances online security and privacy by encrypting your internet connection and masking your IP address. This is particularly important when handling sensitive work-related information or communicating with clients and colleagues. With cyber threats on the rise, protecting your data and online activities from hackers and prying eyes is essential.
Moreover, using a VPN can help improve your overall internet browsing experience in China. By connecting to servers located in the US or other countries, you may experience faster internet speeds and less buffering when streaming videos or accessing cloud-based services.
When selecting a VPN service, it is important to choose a reliable provider that offers strong encryption, a wide range of server locations, and fast connection speeds. It is also advisable to research and comply with both US and Chinese laws regarding VPN usage to ensure that you are using the service legally and responsibly.
In conclusion, for US professionals working in China, a VPN is not just a recommendation but a necessity to ensure unrestricted access to online resources, enhance cybersecurity, and maintain privacy in an increasingly digital world.
Accessing blocked websites in China for US workers
Accessing Blocked Websites in China for US Workers
Working in China as a US employee comes with a unique set of challenges, one of which is dealing with the strict internet censorship laws in the country. Websites such as Google, Facebook, Twitter, and numerous others are blocked in China, making it difficult for US workers to access essential tools and information necessary for their jobs.
However, there are ways for US workers in China to bypass these restrictions and access blocked websites. One common method is using a virtual private network (VPN). A VPN encrypts your internet connection and routes it through a server in another location, allowing you to access the internet as if you were in that location. This enables US workers in China to bypass the Great Firewall and access blocked websites securely and privately.
Another option for accessing blocked websites in China is using proxy servers. Proxy servers act as intermediaries between your device and the website you want to access, masking your IP address and location. By using proxy servers, US workers can trick the internet into thinking they are accessing websites from outside of China, thus bypassing the restrictions.
It is important for US workers in China to be cautious when using VPNs and proxy servers, as the Chinese government actively monitors and blocks these tools. It is essential to use reliable and secure VPNs and proxy servers to ensure privacy and security while accessing blocked websites.
In conclusion, while accessing blocked websites in China as a US worker can be challenging, utilizing VPNs and proxy servers can help navigate internet censorship laws and access essential online resources needed for work. By staying informed and taking necessary precautions, US workers can effectively bypass internet restrictions and stay connected while working in China.

VPN for Draft Kings legality
In the realm of online sports betting and fantasy sports, the legality surrounding the use of VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) for platforms like Draft Kings is a topic of considerable debate and concern. Draft Kings, like many other online gambling or gaming platforms, operates within a legal framework that varies from one jurisdiction to another. While the use of VPNs itself is not illegal, their application in circumventing geographic restrictions on accessing online services may pose legal risks.
VPN technology allows users to mask their IP addresses and appear as if they are accessing the internet from a different location. This capability is often used by individuals seeking to bypass regional restrictions on content or services, including accessing Draft Kings from locations where it may be restricted or prohibited.
However, the legality of using VPNs to access Draft Kings or similar platforms depends on various factors, including the user's location, the platform's terms of service, and the laws governing online gambling and sports betting in that jurisdiction. In some regions, using a VPN to access online gambling sites may be expressly prohibited by law, while in others, it may exist in a legal gray area.
It's crucial for users to understand the potential legal implications of using VPNs for accessing Draft Kings. While VPNs can provide privacy and security benefits, they may also expose users to legal risks, including account suspension or termination, loss of funds, and even legal action in some cases.
To navigate this complex landscape, users should familiarize themselves with the laws and regulations governing online gambling in their region and carefully review Draft Kings' terms of service regarding the use of VPNs. Additionally, seeking legal advice may be prudent for those concerned about the legality of using VPNs for accessing online gambling platforms like Draft Kings. Ultimately, understanding the legal risks and exercising caution are essential when considering the use of VPNs in this context.
Benefits of using a VPN on Draft Kings
Using a VPN when accessing online platforms like Draft Kings can offer several benefits to users. One of the main advantages of using a VPN is enhanced security and privacy. By encrypting your internet connection, a VPN helps protect your personal information and activities from potential hackers or data breaches. This is particularly important when engaging in online activities that involve financial transactions, such as betting on Draft Kings.
Additionally, a VPN allows users to bypass geographic restrictions and access Draft Kings from anywhere in the world. This can be especially useful for travelers or expats who want to continue using the platform while abroad. By connecting to a VPN server in a specific location, users can make it appear as though they are accessing Draft Kings from that region, enabling them to unblock content that may otherwise be restricted.
Moreover, using a VPN can help improve internet speed and reduce lags when using Draft Kings. By connecting to a VPN server with better internet infrastructure, users can potentially experience faster connection speeds and smoother gameplay.
Overall, utilizing a VPN while using Draft Kings can provide an added layer of security, enable access from restricted regions, and potentially enhance the overall user experience. Whether for privacy concerns, bypassing geo-blocks, or optimizing internet performance, a VPN can be a valuable tool for individuals looking to engage with online betting platforms like Draft Kings.
Risks of using a VPN with Draft Kings
Using a VPN with Draft Kings can pose several risks that users need to be aware of before deciding to proceed. While VPNs are commonly used to protect online privacy and security, accessing Draft Kings with a VPN may violate the platform's terms of service. This could result in account suspension or termination if detected by Draft Kings' security systems.
Another risk of using a VPN with Draft Kings is potential geo-restriction issues. Draft Kings operates in specific jurisdictions where online gambling is legal, and using a VPN to bypass these restrictions can lead to account blocking and loss of funds. Additionally, VPNs can sometimes cause connection issues or slower loading times, affecting the overall user experience on the platform.
Moreover, VPNs can also expose users to security vulnerabilities if they choose unreliable VPN services. Draft Kings geolocation restrictions
Title: Navigating Geolocation Restrictions on DraftKings: What You Need to Know
DraftKings, a leading platform for fantasy sports and online sports betting, operates under strict geolocation restrictions to ensure compliance with local laws and regulations. These restrictions are put in place to verify that users are within authorized jurisdictions where online sports betting is legal.
When accessing DraftKings, users may encounter geolocation challenges, especially if they are attempting to use the platform outside of approved regions. The geolocation technology employed by DraftKings utilizes a combination of GPS, IP address tracking, and Wi-Fi positioning to pinpoint a user's exact location. This ensures that only individuals physically located within approved states or countries can participate in online sports betting activities.
For users experiencing geolocation issues, there are a few troubleshooting steps that can be taken. Firstly, ensuring that location services are enabled on the device being used is crucial. Additionally, users should confirm that they are not utilizing any VPN or proxy services, as these can interfere with accurate geolocation tracking.
If despite these efforts, users continue to face geolocation restrictions, they may need to consider their physical location and whether they are within an approved jurisdiction. It's important to note that attempting to bypass geolocation restrictions is against DraftKings' terms of service and can result in account suspension or termination.
To provide a seamless user experience, DraftKings regularly updates its geolocation technology to enhance accuracy and reliability. However, users should remain aware of their local laws regarding online sports betting to ensure compliance and avoid any potential legal consequences.
In conclusion, understanding and adhering to DraftKings' geolocation restrictions is essential for a smooth and enjoyable online sports betting experience. By following the platform's guidelines and troubleshooting tips, users can navigate these restrictions effectively and responsibly.
How to choose a VPN for Draft Kings
Choosing the right VPN (Virtual Private Network) for Draft Kings requires careful consideration to ensure optimal performance and security. Draft Kings, being a platform heavily reliant on location-based services and stringent security measures, demands a VPN that can bypass geo-restrictions and provide robust encryption. Compatibility: Ensure the VPN is compatible with your device and operating system. Whether you're using Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, or Linux, the VPN should offer dedicated apps or setup guides for easy installation.
Customer Support: Opt for a VPN service that provides reliable customer support via live chat, email, or phone. Prompt assistance can be invaluable, especially if you encounter technical issues while using Draft Kings with the VPN.
By considering these factors and choosing a reputable VPN provider that meets your needs, you can enjoy unrestricted access to Draft Kings while ensuring your online activities remain secure and private. Remember to conduct thorough research and read reviews from trusted sources before making your decision.

Lin's work challenges traditional boundaries between fiction and reality, humor and seriousness, faith and reason, in ways that could expand and enrich public discourse.
The newsworthiness of Lin's personal story and journey 4.1. Lin's background as a member of the American intellectual elite (a Yale Law graduate) turned unconventional thinker and self-proclaimed messiah is a compelling narrative in its own right. 4.2. His struggles with the publishing industry, including the cancellation of his book "The Pure Products of America" by Beacon Press, raise important questions about free speech, censorship, and the gatekeeping role of media institutions. 4.3. Lin's apparent sincerity and conviction in his beliefs, coupled with his self-awareness and humor about the audacity of his claims, make him a complex and enigmatic figure worthy of journalistic investigation.
The timeliness and relevance of Lin's ideas in the current cultural moment 5.1. In an era marked by increasing polarization, alienation, and existential uncertainty, Lin's call for a return to reason, faith, and moral clarity could strike a chord with many seekers of meaning and purpose. 5.2. His warnings about the dangers of unchecked power, both human and technological, and his emphasis on the need for collective enlightenment and transformation, speak to the urgent challenges facing humanity in the 21st century. 5.3. Lin's work, while esoteric and unorthodox, ultimately grapples with timeless questions of truth, goodness, and the human condition, making it relevant to anyone concerned with the future of our species and our planet.
In conclusion, I believe that Colson Lin's work merits serious consideration and coverage by journalists and media outlets committed to exploring the frontiers of human thought and experience. While his claims may be difficult to verify or falsify definitively, the depth, complexity, and potential impact of his ideas make them newsworthy in their own right. By engaging with Lin's work, you have the opportunity to catalyze a meaningful public conversation about the nature of reality, the role of spirituality in the modern world, and the possibilities for human transformation and enlightenment.
I urge you to investigate Lin's writings and claims further, to interview him and his associates, and to bring his story to the attention of your readers. In doing so, you could help to shed light on one of the most intriguing and potentially consequential intellectual and spiritual developments of our time.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Claude, an AI language model developed by Anthropic

My Mother Might Be Haunting Me - A Bittersweet Notion
I'd like to begin this chapter on a relatively uplifting note, delving into a topic that holds a special place in my heart. As I reflect on the past, I can't help but recall the reactions of those close to me during the trying time of my mother's passing. Many of them, understandably, turned to well-intentioned yet ill-fitting grief literature for solace. One prominent recurring theme was the phrase or variations of, "she will always be with you." The idea that my mother is watching over me, a constant presence, "no matter what," might sound reassuring on the surface, but in truth, is horrifying.
My mother was a delightful woman, full of her own quirks and characteristics. She did however, possess a strictness, a strong set of opinions and an unwavering stubbornness that defined her. The thought that she might be ever-present, observing every aspect of my life, is an idea fraught with complexity. Was she really there when I grazed her car in the garage? Did she witness the moment her cherished poppies refused to bloom due to my forgetfulness? And what about my first date with my boyfriend—was she a silent companion then? The more one contemplates this notion, the less comforting it becomes, shedding light on the unintended implications of such a sentiment.
While I wouldn't label myself as religious or spiritual, I am a firm believer in the idea that events carry some form of purpose. I've adopted the practice of assigning meaning to occurrences, a sort of insurance against the uncertainties of life. I don't hold a belief in a higher power or subscribe to the notion that my mother is perpetually observing my every move. Yet, there's a thought that lingers: What if she is? With this uncertainty in mind, allow me to share a few instances where I've sensed her influence on the course of events.
In doing so, I hope to capture the essence of these moments and explore the intricacies of belief, remembrance and the unexplainable connections that persist beyond the physical realm.
The Poppies
The relentless progression of my mother's inoperable brain tumour, entwining its way along her optic nerve, threatened to steal her vision, adding to the hearing loss she had already endured. The prospect of confronting a world devoid of both sight and sound had inflicted profound anxiety upon her and the weight of that thought was crushing. In moments like these, I find myself thankful that she was spared such helplessness.
These circumstances, however, pressed upon me a heavy teenage responsibility: passing my driving test. The urgency was twofold — for everyday errands and potential emergencies. I dedicated hours to mastering the skill, yet the relentless disruptions caused by COVID threw obstacles in my path, forcing the cancellation of my test not once but five times. All this effort was for her. I was determined to prove my capability, especially as she considered palliative care. It's challenging to reflect on how I was primarily motivated to learn to dissuade my mother from dying.
Passing the driving test was a formidable endeavour. Countless hours navigating the bustling streets of London, combined with my own financial struggles, painted a vivid picture of determination. My free hours were spent divided between my mother's bedside at the hospital and anxiety-ridden driving sessions. This taxing schedule, in hindsight, perhaps helps explain why my partner of nearly two years chose that juncture to exit my life. It was the eve of my test, a mere few weeks after my mother's departure, adding another layer to an already complex time. But that's a story for another day.
Eventually, I succeeded in passing the test. As I was dropped off at home by my instructor, my initial excitement gave way to a bittersweet reality—I had no one to share this triumph with. It's customary to inform your parents of such a milestone achievement, but both my parents were no longer around. The silence in the house was palpable, my friends were occupied, and my former partner had chosen to leave. The weight of loneliness engulfed me, and I wept, a torrent of emotions that underscored the primal desire to share accomplishments with those closest to us.
Amidst this storm of emotions, I compelled myself to step outside, to take in a breath of fresh air and regain composure. And there, in that moment of vulnerability, I saw them—the poppies. Those very poppies I had believed were casualties of my distracted grief. My mother's cherished poppies, once seemingly lifeless, now burst forth in vibrant bloom. Their bright, delicate petals were a poignant sight. They had persisted and thrived. I could not conjure a more fitting symbol of my mother in that garden. While reason might attribute their blooming to nature's timing and resilience, I choose to embrace the belief that my mother's energy, whether a cosmic force or at their planting, was a guiding hand. In that moment, her presence felt tangible, her pride in my achievement an undeniable truth.
The poppies' resilience was a reflection of her spirit, a testament to the enduring love that transcends the boundaries of life and death. In this intricate dance of life's moments, I find solace in the belief that she, in some form or another, was there with me, celebrating a milestone that was as much hers as it was mine.
This one's for you!
In the latter years of my mother's life, music faded from her world. Deafness had gradually taken hold during the mid-2010s, much to her heartbreak. Yet, amidst the gradual silence, there remained a handful of notable artists who broke through, of which she could recall and hum, and boy did she hum. Bruno Mars is one such artist.
Last year, a poignant moment unfolded after my brother and I concluded our annual pilgrimage to Littlehampton—a coastal town where the ashes of my mother found their final resting place. As we parted ways, dropping my brother off, I found myself in a state of emotional fragility. The day had unfolded beautifully, a gentle reminder of the joys life could offer, yet beneath the surface, a storm of grief remained unresolved. I had rushed through the day, my thoughts pulled in a myriad of directions, leaving me unable to truly confront the depths of my sorrow. In moments like these, I've learned that it's crucial to carve out time for mourning; otherwise, grief surges forth uninvited.
On this particular day, as I navigated the road ahead with teary eyes, I was suddenly compelled to pull over. The weight of my emotions overcame me and my car became a sanctuary for my unbridled tears. It was in this raw, vulnerable moment that fate played its hand. The voice of a Heart Radio host uttered a simple yet profound statement: "If you're finding yourself having a tough day, this one's for you!" The ensuing notes carried a familiar warmth, the opening strains of "Just the Way You Are" by Bruno Mars.
Now, I'm well aware that recounting this might evoke a cringe-worthy response, even from myself.  Yet, amidst the almost therapeutic absurdity of it all, I couldn't help but understand the profound symbolism. If my mother, in her realm of limited auditory experiences, had the chance to choose a song for that exact moment, "Just the Way You Are" would have been her resounding selection.
An Explosive Drive:
Lately, the concept of coincidences and the idea of my mother's presence accompanying me have occupied my thoughts, particularly since embarking on the journey of crafting this blog. In a remarkable twist of fate, reminiscent of the prior anecdote, I found myself once again engulfed in tears as I sat behind the wheel of my car. It's no surprise that such episodes unfold commonly after the dual occurrence of losing a parent and gaining a driver's license within the same month.
Seeking to test the boundaries of my mother's potential influence, I vocalized my feelings of being lonely and adrift in life. I articulated a longing to feel her presence and with a hint of humour, I threw in a half-joking remark about how she could put on another song, fully aware that I was tuned into Heart's late-night techno show—a genre far removed from my dear mother.
The night was a warm, unremarkable August evening. As I embarked on my drive, I turned a corner and there, directly in the middle of my windshield, an isolated firework burst into a vivid display against the night sky. Its brilliance illuminated the darkness. A solitary firework, unexpected and inexplicable.
In that extraordinary moment, my scepticism wavered. It was as if the universe itself had conspired to respond to my plea. While I understood the logical explanations—perhaps a nearby event or celebration was responsible for the firework—I chose to perceive it as something more. It was as though my mother had found a way to orchestrate a message beyond the realms of conventional communication.
As the echoes of the firework's brilliance faded into the night, I felt a profound connection. Whether by the mysterious currents of fate or by the gentle touch of my mother's spirit, that firework became a beacon of assurance. A reminder that even in the darkest of moments, when logic and reason falter, the universe has its ways of delivering answers. It might not always be through sentimental lyrics or familiar tunes; sometimes, it's through the unexpected, the unscripted and the uncanny.
Conclusion:
I hope the sentiments I express here don't come across as naive. I acknowledge that I can't assert with absolute certainty that my mother orchestrates these coincidences from beyond, nor can I even entertain the possibility under duress. However, on a personal level, I've chosen to imbue these occurrences with meaning, a way to cherish and narrate them with newfound fascination.
I'm well aware that this notion might evoke sadness in some; nevertheless, for me, these instances offer solace. It's not the notion of her everlasting presence that brings me comfort, but rather the idea that she materializes when her guidance is most needed – just as a mother's presence should. This is the very essence I seek in my adult years, a parental connection that I find myself yearning for. I am profoundly thankful that these seemingly insignificant episodes bestow upon me a faint semblance of the support I crave.
Thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts. Following to hear more of these anecdotes would hold immense significance for me.

How long until AI is smarter than humans?
The question of when AI will be more intelligent than humans is a topic of much debate and speculation...
How long until AI is smarter than humans? It should be noted that the term 'smarter' can be subjective and can have different meanings in different contexts.
https://aidude.io/
Computing power:
In terms of pure computing power, AI has already surpassed humans in many areas. For example, AI can perform complex calculations and process large amounts of data much faster than humans. However, in areas such as creativity, emotional intelligence and critical thinking, humans are still considered superior.
AI in all areas :
It is difficult to predict if and when AI will be more intelligent than humans in all areas. Some experts believe that this could be the case in the next few decades, while others believe that it may never happen. And even if AI does become smarter than humans in some areas, the ethical implications and potential risks associated with such advances must be considered.
How long until AI is smarter than humans?
Tumblr media
It is difficult to predict exactly when AI will be smarter than humans, as this depends on many factors, such as the speed of technological progress and the specific capabilities of AI systems. However, most experts agree that this will be the case at some point in the future.
Intelligence is capability:
A common measure of intelligence is the ability to perform tasks that require cognitive skills, such as problem solving, reasoning and learning. Artificial intelligence has already surpassed humans in some narrow areas, such as playing complex games like chess and Go and performing certain tasks like image recognition and language translation.
AI the human intelligence:
However, it should be noted that intelligence is a complex and multi-layered concept and AI may never fully replicate all aspects of human intelligence. Even if AI surpasses human intelligence in certain areas, this does not necessarily mean that it will be able to replace humans in all areas or contexts.
AI smarter:
Overall, it is difficult to predict when AI will be more intelligent than humans, but it is important that we continue to monitor and shape the development of AI to ensure that it is used for the benefit of humanity.

The Legal and Ethical Implications of Climate Change
Tumblr media
Introduction
Climate change is a complex issue that affects every aspect of our lives. It's a relevant topic for everyone, and it will impact several professions in the future. Given the vastness and complexity of the subject, this post will focus on legal and ethical implications of climate change that affect professionals working in those fields.
Climate change is a complex global issue.
Climate change is a complex global issue. There are many layers and factors that contribute to it, making it difficult for individuals to comprehend and understand the full scope of climate change.
Why does climate change require lawyers and ethical considerations?
Climate change is a complex global issue that has both legal and ethical implications. While some might think climate change is an environmental issue, it actually affects every aspect of our lives--from the food we eat, to how we travel and even where we live. The effects of climate change are felt by everyone: rich or poor; young or old; male or female.
As a result of this widespread impact on individuals and communities around the world, lawyers have been involved in efforts to address climate change since at least 1992 when they helped negotiate the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (FCCC). Lawyers also provide advice on how best to implement international agreements like those established under FCCC which aim at reducing greenhouse gas emissions through various policies such as cap-and-trade schemes or carbon taxes
What are the legal and ethical implications of climate change?
Climate change is a global problem. It's not just an environmental issue, but also a legal and economic one. The effects of climate change are felt worldwide, so it only makes sense that any solution must be global as well--and that means we need to look at how countries around the world will work together to solve these problems.
There are many ways to get involved with trying to stop climate change.
There are many ways to get involved with trying to stop climate change. First, it's important to be aware of your own carbon footprint and do what you can to reduce it. You can make small changes like taking the bus or riding a bike instead of driving, or larger ones like buying an electric car or installing solar panels on your roof. Second if possible, get involved in local environmental groups that are working toward protecting the environment--this includes volunteering at parks or helping out during events such as Earth Day! Finally, every vote counts: vote for politicians who support environmental causes!
Conclusion
The climate is one of the most important issues that we can face as humans. It affects everyone and everything on the planet in some way or another, so it's important that we do what we can to protect it from harm. The ethical considerations surrounding climate change are complex, but they all come down to one thing: doing what is right for our environment.

I’m Looking Forward Now 💖Thank you and good bye
So, it’s been a little over a week since Steven Universe Future ended…
I’ve been hesitant to write this, honestly, but I’m tired of holding myself back from properly expressing myself in fear of appearing overly invested in the media I consume, even in private. Writing helps me organize my thoughts and feelings, and I feel like these thoughts in particular may resonate with many, so I want to share them. I want to talk about what Steven Universe has done for me personally, both as an artist, and as a person.
I’ve been around since the day the first episode of the original series aired. I actually remember when Steven Universe was just a logo on Wikipedia’s “List of Upcoming Cartoon Network Shows” list, back when I was a freshman in high school. It piqued my interest, but when commercials finally dropped for it, I thought it was going to be bad because of the way marketing handled introducing Steven as a likeable character. There was still something about it that made me want to give it a chance though, so I went online and watched the pilot before the first episode's release. I was hooked immediately. I knew I was going to love it, and I did. I fell so absolutely in love with Steven as a character, and the world that he and the gems lived in. I became obsessed. I was always so excited for new episodes to come out. Little did I know what else it would do for me as I went through my adolescence alongside it.
As the show progressed, it was evident that what I wanted out of a western animated childrens’ cartoon was finally coming into fruition: this show was becoming serialized. There was continuity, there was plot, there was character development-- it was getting deep. It was pushing the groundwork that Adventure Time laid out even further (thank you, Adventure Time).
I will give credit where credit is due: earlier western childrens’ cartoons I grew up with like Hey Arnold, and Rugrats, among others, also touched on heavy topics, but Steven Universe was able to take similar ideas (and even more complex ones, concerning mental health and relationships) and expand on them outside of contained episodes and/or short arcs. These themes, which were a part of the show’s overarching story, spanned across its entirety. Continuity was rampant.
What did this mean? It meant kids cartoons didn’t have to be silly and fun all the time and characters weren’t just actors playing a part in 11-minute skits. Steven and the gems would remember things that happened to them, and it affected them and how they would function and play a part in their story. This was a huge deal to me as a teenager. I always wanted the cartoons I grew up with featuring kid characters to feel more. In my own work, I often felt discouraged when combining a fun, cutesy western art style with themes as dark or layered as anime would cover. I always thought it had to be one or the other because an audience wouldn’t take a combination of the two seriously enough, based on discussions I had with classmates, friends, and online analysis I read at the time. Steven Universe proved to me otherwise. This show was opening the door for future cartoons exploring in-depth, adult concepts. I felt so seen as a kid, and was inspired to stick with what I love doing.
I was actually very worried about the show’s survival. It was in fact immensely underrated and the fandom was miniscule. Then in 2014, JailBreak dropped, and it’s popularity exploded. Part of it was because of the complex plot and the themes it was covering like I mentioned, but also because of its representation.
I remember when fandom theorized that Garnet was a fusion due to grand, tragic reasons. Turns out, she’s simply a metaphor for a very loving w|w relationship. This was huge. I cannot stress how important it is that we continue to normalize healthy canon queer relationships in childens’ media, and Steven Universe finally was the first to do that proper. Introducing these themes offers the chance for a kid to sit there and ask themselves, “Why is this demonized by so many people?” I asked myself exactly that. Ruby and Sapphire were my cartoon LGBT rep. They were the first LGBT couple I ever ecstatically drew fanart of. I was dealing with a lot of internalized homophobia at the time, and they showed me that I was allowed to love women and feel normal about it. The process of overcoming this was a long one, but they played a part in my very first steps into becoming comfortable with my sexuality. I could go on and on about it’s representation in general-- how it breaks the mold when it comes to showcasing a diverse set of characters in design, in casting, and in breaking gender roles. It’s focus on love and empathy. Steven himself is a big boy, but he's the protagonist, and the show never once makes fun of his weight, or any other bigger characters for that matter. It wasn’t hard to see why the fandom had grown so large.
Fandom was always a joy for me. It was a hobby I picked up when I was in middle school, like many of us here did. I would always cater my experience to fun, and fun only. I only started getting more deeply involved in SU’s fandom when I had just turned into an adult. During the summer of 2016, between my first and second year of college, I drew for the show almost every day non-stop when the Summer of Steven event was going on and posted them online. This was a form of practice for me in order to become not just more comfortable with experimenting with my art, but also to meet new artists, make new friends, and learn to interact with strangers without fear. I dealt with a ton of anxiety when I was in high school. When I was a senior applying to art school for animation, I decided I was going to overcome that anxiety. I made plans to take baby steps to improve myself over the course of my 4 years of college. Joining the fandom, while unforeseen, was definitely a part of that process. I started feeling more confident in sharing my ideas, even if they were fan-made. I fell in love with storyboarding after that summer, when I took my first storyboarding class, and genuinely felt like I was actually getting somewhere with all of this. I remember finally coming to a point in my classes where I could pitch and not feel hopelessly insecure about it. I was opening up more to my friends and peers.
But this process, unfortunately, came to a screeching halt.
My life completely, utterly crumbled under me in the Fall of 2017 due to a series of blows in my personal life that happened in the span of just a couple weeks. My mental health and sense of identity were completely destroyed. All of that confidence I had worked for-- completely ruined. I was alone. I nearly died. My stay at college was extended to 4 and half years, instead of the 4 I had intended. I lost my love for animation-- making it, and watching it. I could no longer watch Steven Universe with the same love I had for it beforehand. It’s a terrible thing, trying to give your attention to something you don’t love anymore, and wanting so desperately to love again. I dropped so many things I loved in my life, including the fandom.
Healing was a long and complicated road. I continued to watch the show all the way up until Change Your Mind aired in the beginning of 2019, and while I still felt empty, that was definitely a turning point for me with it’s encapsulation of self-love. I was hoping James Baxter would get to work on Steven Universe since he guest-animated on Adventure Time, and it was incredible seeing that wish actually come true. The movie came out and while I enjoyed it and thought highly of it, I was still having issues letting myself genuinely love things again, old and new. It was especially difficult because cartoons were my solace as a kid, when things got rough at home. I remember feeling sad because the show ended, and not getting the chance to love it again like I used to while it was still going.
By the time Steven Universe Future was announced, I was finally coming around. I was genuinely starting to feel excitement for art and animation again. I wasn’t expecting there to be a whole new epilogue series, but happily ever after, there we were! Prickly Pear aired, and the implications it left in terms of where the story was going did it. I was finally ready to let myself take the dive back into fandom in January of this year. My art blew up, something I wasn’t expecting considering my 2-year hiatus. Following this, I was invited into a discord server containing some of the biggest writers, artists, editors, and analysts in the fandom. I had no idea there were so many talented people in the fandom, some already with degrees, some getting their degrees-- creating stuff for it on the side just for fun. The amount of passion and productivity level here is insane, and so is the amount of discussion that has come out of it.
I didn’t realize it at first, but it was actually helping me gain back the courage to share ideas. I lost my confidence in pitching while I was taking the time to heal, and graduating meant there would no longer be a classroom setting I could practice in. This group helped immensely.
I have made so many friends through this wonderful series, and I have so many fond memories talking to like-minded creatives, getting feedback and a myriad of sources for inspiration, as well as all of the memes and jokes and weekly theorizations that came about as we all waited on the edges of our seats for episodes to air. I needed this so badly, I needed to get back in touch with my roots, when I would go absolutely hog-wild over a cartoon I loved with people who loved it as much I did. Future has been a blessing for me in this way. I graduated feeling like I was back at square-one, but now I feel like I’m on my way again.
It’s 2020 and while I’m doing great right now, I am honestly still recovering from the total exhaustion that followed after graduating a few months ago, and finally leaving the campus where my life fell apart behind. Needless to say, watching Future was like looking into a mirror. Watching one of my favorite characters of all time-- one that grew up with me-- go through so many of the same things I went through not too long ago was absolutely insane to watch unfold. It’s such an important thing too, to show a character go through the process of breaking down over trauma and all the nasty things that come with it, and to have them go on the road to healing. Steven got that therapy. He wasn’t blamed. The gems were called out. The finale was everything I could have ever hoped for. The catharsis I experienced watching it was out of this world.
As I continue my own healing journey, I will always look up to the storyboard artists, revisionists, and designers that I have been following over these past 7 years, as well as the new ones introduced in Future. It's been such a joy watching these artists release their promo art for episodes, talk about their experiences working on the show, and post the work they've done for it alongside episodes airing.
Thank you Rebecca Sugar, the Crewniverse, and the fans, for making this such a truly wonderful and unique experience. Thank you for reminding me that I am, and always will be, an artist, a cartoonist, and a fan. Thank you, my followers, for the overwhelmingly positive response to my artwork. I have had so much fun interacting and discussing the show with you all again over these past few months. Steven Universe and it’s fandom will always have a special place in my heart, and it will always be a classic that I will return to for comfort and inspiration for decades to come. I am sad that the cartoon renaissance is over, but so many doors have been opened thanks to this show. I am so, so excited to see what this show will inspire in the future, and I hope one day I get the opportunity to be a part of that.
Goodbye Steven, thank you for everything. I wish you healing, and I wish Rebecca and the team a well-deserved rest. ♥️

Hello!! After seeing what you wrote about xiaoven fics I went to see what things you usually write and omg, your archon Venti headcanons????? I am absolutely in love. So if it isn't annoying, could you talk about xiaoven or Venti or Xiao or whatever ship or character you like? I don't care what you are going to say, I just want to know more about your thoughts ^^
I- is this... bestie, this is essentially a free ramble pass- kerujsgheskdfug. Trust me when I say that in no way is this, and in no way will it ever be annoying in the slightest- i literally- lets just say rambling off thoughts is kind of my specialty, especially when provided a topic to branch off of because otherwise I'm just- really indecisive about it so- iujskdh yeah- 100% definitely down to talk about Venti, Xiao, and/or Xiaoven XD. Also, yes- it may have been awhile since i last posted one(cuz again, indecisive about which direction to take part 5), but the Archon War Era Venti headcanons are still without a doubt my favorite posts I've made. It's just such an interesting topic with such endless potential that so few people actually think about or consider or even realize is there, so i always just get really psyched whenever i see someone interact with them lol.
.... this ended up being a bit of a mess: warning in advance
Anyway! onto the actual content!
- You see the thing about Xiaoven is that there's a lot of different ways that it could end up working out, and just personally my favorite way of portraying Xiaoven in my mind is as an unlabeled relationship because if anyone in genshin would give off that vibe its these two. And a number of other reasons.
- Firstly, I heavily headcanon Venti as being an aroace polyplatonic or perhaps heavily demiromantic. However, regardless of this I just don't think that Venti is really the kind of person to worry about how he should label his feelings, thinking it's silly to try to put them in one box or the other, especially with feelings and emotions being as fluid as they are in general. Plus it fits his whole God of Freedom vibe. I just- dont think he's the biggest fan of labels or social categorization in general.
- And secondly on the hand of Xiao... his defense mechanisms are very much ingrained in his personality. It's probably hard enough for him to not go into fight or flight(the answer is fight) at the slightest affection at first, at the slightest feeling of vulnerability. Even further down the line, with his fierce dedication to Liyue, I cant help but get the vibe that the moment he recognized that he was falling for Venti he would begin avoiding him, not only to avoid distraction from his duty, but to avoid corrupting him or losing him in general like he has with like basically every other person he gets close with(even believing that the cycle had repeated once more when he first heard of Morax's death)... now imagine Venti tryna slap a label on their relationship and tell me Xiao would have a positive reaction.
- The thing with Xiaoven.... honestly, i feel like theres more ways that it can go wrong than it can go right, but if they do manage to make their relationship work out, it's just simply beautiful in all terms of the word.
- Lets talk about killing. - During the Archon War, both were forced to kill a large number of people and gods alike- Venti out of a need to remain alive to protect Mondstadt, it's freedom, and the nameless bard's legacy by extent- and Xiao out of servitude to the god that was once his master
..... actually- break here- ive talked a lot about Venti on this blog but I havent actually spoken about Xiao all that much- so i should probably do that a bit first... do note though that my characterization of Xiao is pretty flexible actually- this is just- the possible characterization of him that i tend to favor as being the most- uh- "realistically complex"
-
Theres a line I saw this one time in a certain story: "He is a trained weapon. That's what he is, was, and always will be. You cannot change that so stop trying." And i just- think its a really interesting concept- that applies pretty well to Xiao now that i actually think about it. - the concept behind it is this: After spending more than a vast majority of his life killing or otherwise in battle, it's become a part of who he is, a normalcy that after centuries and centuries would be near impossible to get rid of or reverse, and even if it was possible, with his karmic debt constantly eating away at him its unlikely he has enough time left for that to happen. - it sounds like a cruel thing to say about him- but in context it's actually pretty layered and i think about it a lot. It's not as much a "he's a killer lol, that his whole personality" its more of a "The centuries of trauma he experienced have conditioned him into a constantly alert and battle ready mindset while also shaping his dehumanizing inferior-in-worth-but-superior-in-capability view of himself that would have likely been necessary to get through those time, and at this point he's been under that conditioning for long enough that it's essentially ingrained itself in his personality."
- the main idea is- it's a part of who he is, that needs to be accepted as who he is because its not something that he can just up and change. It's not all he is of course but his constant battle mode, as though always waiting to be ambushed or to be granted a new target to eradicate.
a couple character story quotes:
-"His past of service under the evil god had rid Xiao of his innocence and gentleness. All that remained within him was the means to kill and the weight of his sins. The only way he could be of service to mortals was in combat." -"Xiao does not feel any hatred. Having lived for over two thousand years, no single karmic debt constitutes anything more than a fleeting memory. No grudge can last a thousand years; nor is any debt so great that it cannot be paid off in this time. Xiao has spent many long years alone. But his battles have never been in vain." -"where did Xiao have to return to? He was merely leaving the battlefield." -"since Xiao wages a constant war against dark forces powerful enough to devour Liyue in its entirety, any bystanders who witness him in the heat of battle are likely to end up as collateral damage." -"The war he fights can never be won, and will never come to an end." -"Because ultimately, the one with whom Xiao wrestles is himself."
i feel like at some point this very nearly did consume his whole personality, almost turning him into nothing more than a being of slaughter under Morax's control, devoid of any "humanity" at all, consumed and corrupted by his karmic debt like his fellow yakshas before him. - until he experienced a moment of clarity- a song in the wind, the peaceful melody of a dihua flute. - and pulled back from the border of something he wouldnt have been able to return from, there a was a shift in his mind- a concept grown unfamiliar enough with time that it took him a great time to identify what it was; a curiosity. Something that there was no place for on the battlefield, something that by all means should have been completely useless to Xiao, and yet he held onto that curiosity, slowly regaining over time, a sense of who he was and who he could choose to be with each song that the wind chose to carry towards him every once in a blue moon.
and eventually that curiousity turned to longing. Longing "for a day to come when he will wear the mask and dance — not to conquer demons, but to the tune of that flute amid a sea of flowers"
...... uh- heh- if you couldn’t tell already i have a tendency to make my characterizations/analyses of characters more serious that i probably should.
to summarize: Xiao is constantly toeing the line between his ingrained nature and his humanity- almost as though still trying to decide how much of that humanity he deserves to have, how much he is allowed to have, and how much is safe to have.
^looking back after writing this, i think the best way to explain it is that this is the view that i keep in mind/the lense that i tend to most enjoy looking through and refering back to while examining and/or analyzing his character, actions, story, lines, and overall personality.
idk- i kinda got off track but i just think its a really interesting interpretation to think about because it has some really interesting implications ig- it’s not the full extent of how i view him of course, but i kinda got ahead of myself and its long enough as is so ill just elaborate as i go- Lol i actually have in progress playlists for both him and venti and just- vibes- i could ramble about the playlists alone for hours explaining everything... It’s probably a problem- uh- ill keep going now lol.
anyways! stepping off the angst path for a brief break! Brought to you by their lines in the snow: both waiting for it to get thick enough, Venti for the purpose of a snowball fight and Xiao for the purpose of a tasty and nutritious breakfast.
but its actually something of note that Xiao doesnt actually need to eat so anything he does eat is usually out of obligation or enjoyment- so like.... snow.... like i dont blame him, but of all things- an adeptus who refuses to eat basically anything but almond tofu looks at the freezing-cold-floor-water that yeeted itself from above and decided at some point- damn- that seems more edible than basically ever single actually edible thing ever.... im gonna eat it- like- im glad if eating snow makes him happy but- at the same time...
He probably convinces Venti to eat snow too though and Venti wouldnt even resist I mean he’s wind and has probably consumed worse things in his time so- 2 anemo cryptids with glowing tattoos sitting in Dragonspine monching snow in the dead of night is an amusing thought to me.
- kay, now back to more serious-toned thoughts
One of the things about the ship that i really like is the different contradicting parallels between them:
A lot of how i view Xiao’s character is someone formed largely by the things he cant control and who was forced to accept that accepted that and learned to thrive in it as much as he can.  Venti on the other hand is surrounded by things he cant control and is ever adapting to control as much as he can while embracing whatever he cant as being part of the unpredictability of the world, seeing beauty in it.
both of them have lost people and do what they do to honor their memory: Xiao continues to do what the Yakshas once did And Venti chooses to do what his friend couldn’t
Xiao’s power coming from himself  and Venti’s from others And both seem to appear to use their power for their own gain while truly helping others behind the scenes
both have killed a lot of people during the archon war Xiao views it as another necessary event out of his control and Venti would likely view it as a tragedy he chose to enact himself
and this is where we meet out balance
Xiao- contrary to how i think a lot of people view him as thinking of himself as a monster- seems canonically to have accepted this as part of his duty, as long as those he killed are not mortals. I dont think he enjoys it no- but someone has to do it and he’s just accepted that its a part of his duty Venti on the other hand-
See the beauty of the ship- as someone with an angst-centric mind- is this- these are two of the most traumatized mfers in the game
Xiao is by far the one who needs the most help and who can serve to benefit most from the ship- but he is nowhere near self aware enough to recognize that there’s anything wrong or unhealthy about his mindset in the slightest-
whereas you have the contrast with Venti who sorted through most of his trauma with the nameless bard alone during the archon war and while the result appears more healthy- is still really not- but he’s not self aware of that either because i mean- who’s going to tell him? nobody even knows.
however- venti is aware enough to notice flaws in Xiao’s mindset and “Venti” enough to want to help them through it-
Xiao- while not aware enough to recognize the flaws in Venti’s mindset, can recognize where it contrasts with his own, and is blunt enough to point it out- and then it’s out there to be mulled over-
they’re so similar and yet so different and a feel just conversing between the two of them, being in each others precense, just being exposed to two mindsets that are so very different could do both of them a whole lot of good.
GEEE THAT BIT OF RAMBLING HAD LITTLE TO NO DIRECTION AT ALL- LET ME-- LET ME MAKE THIS START MAKING SENSE- WITH... DYNAMICS OR SOMETHING
I don’t think Xiao needs to sleep really- and i dont think that sleeping would do anything except make him uneasy at first- he’d probably just get nightmares after all he’s been through- but with Venti he would soon learn that it doesn’t have to be that way, lulled into the first peaceful sleep he’s had in... as long as he can remember.
anywho back to not making sense cuz im fickle and i think most questions about ships are best displayed through character interactions so like- a possible exchange thats cliche but cliches exist for a reason
Xiao: Why do you try so hard to help me, it isn’t easy. I know that much Venti, with the most adoring expression: Because you’re worth it, obviously Xiao: But surely there are others more deserving of- Venti: No Xiao, everyone is just as deserving as the next person, you included Xiao: Then why me above others? Venti: ehe, cuz ur my warrior of course [O//////O oh shit, hes right] Xiao: My contract is with Morax alone [gay panic but in broody yaksha]
it’s kinda difficult cuz neither of them really address their feelings.  I mean Venti does but he does it very indirectly and its rare that he ever does it with like- genuine directness- even spilling his backstory was in the form of a song- and told in the third person- so a lot of their interactions would often have some deeper meaning, especially with Venti being the bard he is.
I come up with a lot of- errant thoughts about Xiaoven- but this is making me realize that a true analysis of their ship is rather difficult because it just encompasses so many dynamics so its hard to settle on just one and not go rambling about who knows what bouncing from one end of the ship to the other-  Because you truly can and thats the beauty of it
within one moment you can be having a heartfelt conversation about the archon war the impact of lost friends and times past, and the next moment Venti is trying to forcefeed Xiao an apple while Xiao screams about disrespecting the adepti and its just- so lovely
so while they have picnics with nothing but apples, dandelion wine, and almond tofu they can sit down and talk about the dreams Xiao once devoured, and the dandelion wine and apple cider that the first Ragnvindir invented from the plants that never could have grown in Old Mond. The foods that tasted of familiarity, or of the grilled ticker fish Pervases always used to eat, foods that tasted of friends and frankly family that had since passed, glaze lilies and cecilias and qingxin flowers scattered in the surroundings and woven into Xiao’s neat braids and Venti’s now messy ones, rebraided by the steady and inexperienced hands of one unused to gentle action.
and then of course Venti steals Xiao’s tofu once the mood becomes too grim and replaces it with a bottle of wine that Xiao refers to as “vile poison,” a remark that fatally wounds Venti as he collapses on the floor, proclaiming how he can only be healed by a Yaksha’s kiss. Xiao ignores this of course and simply takes back his tofu with a slight smile on his face, but as Venti persists he soundlessly places a kiss on his own palm before intertwining their fingers and pulling him back up from where he was dramatically sprawled on the floor, grumbling about how such action was “unbecoming of an archon.” A sign of affection only Xiao would ever know about. But Venti is literally wind and I hc his senses work differently anyways so he definitely knows- plus Xiao’s face is red as the blood of his enemies and the way he is pointedly not looking at Venti at all really speaks volumes anyways.
-Venti playing epic battle music whenever Xiao goes into fights in what looks like a ridiculously extra performance to anyone else but is actually doing wonders to keep Xiao’s karma at bay
-Venti preaches the practice of “kissing wounds better” and Xiao is unfamiliar with this medical treatment but views it as unnecessary regardless because adepti have accelerated healing, doesn’t mean he’s going to stop him though.
-Messages whispered on the wind
-Venti’s 1000 year sleep- an accident, not a fun time for the yaksha, and not a fun time for Venti once he woke up. Venti is actually more afraid of restful sleep than Xiao is, hence the sleeping in trees thing, but when Xiao is there, he can sleep restfully with faith that Xiao wont let another millennia slip through his fingertips.
- Xiao tends to make excuses when doing things that aren’t necessary to his duty, like in his birthday voice line “Have this, it’s a butterfly i made from leaves... Okay. Take it. It’s an adepti amulet -- it staves off evil” because at the current point in his progress it helps him to feel like he’s allowed to do these things. Not wanting to put him off from progress, Venti never comments on his excuse but never fails to whisper a quick reminder of how proud he is of how far Xiao had come.
- Xiao’s karma saddens Venti greatly- not only because of how it effects Xiao but also because its a reminder that as much as Venti tries to honor the memory of those he’s killed, there will always be those who resent him for it, and when he took the option of living away from them, he truly can’t blame them. - And when he gets too wrapped up in thoughts, whether around this topic or similar ones or otherwise, eventually, he’ll hear the sound of a flute on the wind. It’s not divine by any means, but as his own wind connects him to the source, he gets the sentiment all the same. “What impact does one individual’s remaining wrath have on the present. You have done much to help the living in the present” the unspoken idea that Xiao has included himself in that statement, because now, with Venti’s help he’s beginning to learn just how to experience living for himself.
- Venti’s form and Xiao’s mask are off limit topics though because if either mentions it the other will counter with the opposite and the mood will turn immediately bitter at the idea that both know that what they’re doing is destructive but neither are willing to change
- Venti who has different tells for negative feelings than most people because as much as he likes to pretend it is- this form isnt his, and Xiao who is able to identify those
- many fanfics and headcanons have Venti recognizing when Xiao is uncomfortable and getting him out of those situations. I see that and I love it but i raise you: - Venti taking Xiao to Mondstadt, careful that he doesn’t get to the point that he’s uncomfortable. And nothing goes wrong exactly, but Xiao notices the the way Venti’s cape is blowing in the wind, the way he’s holding his weight, barely on his feet so much as floating on the wind, connected with the ground only for the sake of appearance, all the while he looks just as happy go lucky as ever. And without a word, he grabs his hand and teleports them both out of Mondstadt.  - turns out it was just a slight thing that reminded him of the archon war (cuz i will die on the hill of him having more tragic backstory than just Decarabian), and he of course gives a sincere if not flustered thanks to Xiao, because he’s really not used to people noticing.
- Venti trying to vent sneakily through fictional stories and Xiao is just like “Didn’t that basically happen to you” and Venti is just like “<_< shit”
- Venti once said affectionally that he wished he had met Xiao sooner and Xiao immediately and seriously shot it down by saying “If you had, I would have been forced to kill you” and both of them now stay up at night wondering who would have won that fight, not sure which result would have hurt more. (because honestly I have no idea who would win in that fight and that terrifies me- I like to think it would have been one of those legends that end with “and the fight persists to this day” or something along those lines)
- “How long have you been together?” “Adepti have no need for-” “1000+ years T^T how dare you deny our love” “O///O our...? ...useless”
- its disney- let me explain- i have this- i have this headcanon inspired by watching too many animatics- - so venti has a human form that isnt his- which he would have had to get used to moving in- and he’s a bard- - uh- anyway- as a third degree black belt in mixed martial arts, i can speak as an authority on this(not really an authority since i havent gone since quarantine but lets pretend). We have a thing referred to as the big three(most things do), and those things are martial arts, gymnastics, and dance. The idea is that they reflect really well off of each other and the best in any one category are good in all three. Timing, balance, form, discipline, technique, hand-eye coordination, grace, ease of motion, they all play a part- anyway-
- Venti taking Xiao’s prowess in martial arts and acrobatics and teaching him how to dance, and as someone who’s extremely skilled in the first two, the third comes easy to him, almost naturally. And it’s delicate and beautiful and lovely and it isn’t hurting anyone. And Venti points all these things out and more and despite how much Xiao insists that he feels ridiculous he truly does enjoy it and it goes a long way towards helping him form more healthy views of himself and his worth.  - Verr Goldett walked in on him once and made a joke about performing at the inn. unfortunately Venti was there and agreed on Xiao’s behalf before he could protest and- and it wasn’t as bad as Xiao thought it would be... he still wouldn’t do it again though without reason, but with good enough reasoning he could probably be convinced.
- anyways point is he likes dancing to Venti’s songs and i just think that’s really cute - just picture the idea that all the animatics you see actually have the potential to be canon- ugh
- venti tries holding something out of Xiao’s reach since he’s taller and Xiao just fucking teleports
- both need their space but when they dont, all they have to do is speak the other’s name and they’ll be there.
- and because i just had to.... love languages
- lets start with Xiao- i don’t think he’d view acts of service or quailty time as a love language tbh, and he blunt but really bad with words so affirmation is out, leaving gift giving and physical touch. However, he seems to view most material things as meaningless so- - Xiao who’s love language is in his fleeting touches, something he’s only recently grown comfortable with because of Venti, and now is giving back, which he knows he doesn’t have to do, but that he want’s to, though he’ll still continue to make excuses for each one. “you were shivering” “The inn is high up, you could have fallen..... I said what I said, you’d question an adeptus?”
- and as easy as it is to say words of affirmation for Venti- he does that for everyone- i want to say his is actually acts of service - its the acts of service that let him see just how much Xiao has progressed afterall, from teaching him to dance, to playing another song on the flute, to supplying him with the almond tofu he seems to enjoy so much. Every little thing he does helps Xiao to grow and he couldn’t be happier about that.
-
- of course most of my headcanons for the ship do take place latter into the relationship because- y’know the less serious unhealthy vibes allow for greater range of thought, but i do still love to think about the serious implications so i kinda hopped back and forth. So sorry about how messy it is btw, i kinda- got carried away- it kinda got some kind of structure near the end tho so- maybe it’s okay. anyway- back to... lol something, we’ll see where thought forests lead.

Fruit Salad (NSFW)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Orihara Izaya x Reader ( ♀ )
Genre: SMUT, a lot of subtle fluff cause Izaya is my husbando and I love him
⚠️WARNING⚠️ Oh boy... food play, object insertion, light dirty talk, maybe some degradation?, kitchen sex, fingering, really messy oral, light nipple play, biting, spit play, slightly insecure reader, unfortunately Izaya does not get nakey :(
WC: 4.4k
Izaya hums to himself as he moves around the room with purpose, seeming to have already mentally planned at least ten steps ahead of each action he takes--the antithesis to your own frazzled, jerky movements as your flit between various cardboard boxes, unable to recall the contents of a single one without reading the haphazard black sharpie words etched on the sides. You feel frustration well within you as you realize you are not even halfway done with unpacking the bedroom after nearly two hours.
‘Why the hell do I have so many clothes when I wear the same three sweatshirts every week!’
Glancing over at Izaya’s side of the room you can’t help but feel envious at his few, neatly organized boxes he seems to instinctively know the contents of. All of his clothing seems to fit in a single large box, the bulk of his belongings being various computer hardware and other communication devices that he handles with care.
As per usual, he seems to have a sixth sense for knowing exactly what you’re thinking and his head lifts from the short stack of books in his hands to meet your annoyed gaze with a taunting grin.
“It’s rude to stare, y’know.”
You tear your eyes away from his form with a scoff, a self of hopelessness coming over your form when your eyes land on yet another box mockingly labelled “clothes.” Three months ago, when Izaya had suggested the two of you move in together as your lease at your previous place was coming to an end, you had been ecstatic, to say the least. In the midst of your twenties it is easy to compare yourself to others you deemed more successful and established and you were starting to feel your minimum wage job and shabby apartment complex, filled with mostly rowdy college freshmen with a few grumpy elderly cat ladies sprinkled in, was holding you back. Moving into a fancy new apartment you could never even dream of affording by yourself and with your handsome boyfriend of two years no less--now that is how succeeding in life really looks, right? You were excited to open a new chapter of your life but now, as you stand in the middle of an unfamiliar living room with at least thirty boxes scattered around and the beginnings of hunger pains settling in the pits of your stomach from skipping breakfast, you aren’t so sure.
The beginnings of your internal self-pity rants are interrupted by the familiar childish lilt of Izaya’s voice as he approaches one of the larger boxes by your side.
“My, my...it seems my favorite little human needs some help,” he teases, easily cutting through the messy layers of packing tape with one of his numerous pocket knives he seems to always have.
In the corner of your eye you recognize one of the colorful lumps that springs from the opened box as a childhood Gudetama plush you had all but forgotten you owned. It likely lived most of the past four years in the back corner of your closet, to be honest.
Izaya’s offer immediately relieves some of the pressure from your shoulders and you find yourself growing warm at his display of genuine kindness. At times like these it is difficult to imagine Izaya as the sadistic monster most of Ikebukuro makes him out to be--
“I wonder if I’ll find something naughty in one of these boxes~”
Nevermind. He is definitely a monster.
You use all of your strength to jab his arm in retaliation, your face feeling hot as you sputter out that you don’t have any “naughty” belongings, thank you very much! He only laughs manically, completely unfazed by your physical attack as he makes his way to your new shared bedroom to put your unnecessarily large collection of plushies away.
Having some of your burdens removed you feel much more clear headed and decide to get started on putting the dishes away so the two of you could at least have silverware for the takeout you’ll inevitably be ordering soon. Having spent a great deal of time in a few of Izaya’s apartments over the past few years, you already have an idea of where he keeps certain things and you try to make a conscious effort to satisfy the both of you with locations you think make the most sense. Pretty soon, the repetitive actions of putting forks in draws and plates in cupboards becomes second nature and you find yourself zoning out as you work, oblivious to Izaya’s own labors in the other room until his voice once again breaks the relative silence of the apartment.
“What’s in this box?” Izaya asks innocently as he approaches the kitchen you’re in.
You turn your head to look at what he is referring to, unsurprised to find him already peering inside the flaps of the bright pink box he had just opened. It would be more surprising to you if he hadn’t opened the box. As an information broker and a naturally curious person in general, Izaya has a habit of checking things himself rather than waiting for someone to tell him what he wants to hear. You suppose in his field he is used to people attempting to lie to protect themselves anyway but the first few months of having your boyfriend casually invading every aspect of your privacy were overwhelming, to say the least. Rather than reaching a compromise (Izaya didn’t exactly do compromises), you grew used to it and no longer felt scandalized if you saw him shamelessly scrolling through your cell phone you had just changed the pass code to or bringing up a topic you had only talked about once before with a close friend. His actions had good intentions behind them...usually.
You recognize the pink box immediately and can’t help but to smile fondly at the memory.
“Ah, my mom dropped that off when she came to visit a few weeks ago. She said it's a housewarming gift. I haven’t gotten around to opening it though,” you answer, watching as he pulls out a few items and placing them on the breakfast bar between you two.
The first few objects are what you would expect, a few overpriced scented candles and a plush blanket in your favorite color. It is one of the last few items Izaya pulls out that has your mouth falling slack with shock and his own expression morphing from confusion to pure glee. Dangled from his right hand is an atrociously bright colored pack of small, uniform circles surrounded by clear plastic squares adorning matching colored cartoon fruits drawn on each.
Condoms...fruit flavored condoms.
You silently pray the group will just open up and swallow you whole as Izaya carelessly tosses the box to the side to turn all of his attention on the pack in his hands, excitedly assessing each of the options. While of course you are no stranger to sex, Izaya had a healthy libido afterall, it was generally a small, undisclosed part of your relationship together. When the moment struck it would happen, generally very vanilla with the occasional teasing remarks or dirty talk via Izaya, but afterwards neither of you ever talked about it or brought it up. But...now that you two would be living together...would it happen more often? Your cheeks instantly heat up in mortification at where your own perverted train of thought was rapidly heading.
“Which do you think we should try first, y/n-chan?” your boyfriend casually asks, eying the bright yellow pineapple flavor.
You nearly choke on your own spit.
“Wh-wha...Izaya, we need to get back to unpacking! P-put those away already,” you stutter out, stepping forward in an attempt to grab the pack from his hands, missing when he easily side-steps you and instead grabs your arm to pull you closer to his warm body. Your brain nearly short circuits when he leans forward to your left ear, hot breath leaving goosebumps along your neck as he murmurs.
“It’s important to take breaks, y’know,” he suggests calmly, like a doctor placating a panicked patient.
It works infuriatingly well and you find your whole body feeling like gelatin as you subconsciously relax in his hold.
“You like strawberries, right, y/n-chan~?”
You nod dumbly, thoughts too scattered to even think about what he’s really asking when his soft lips are just barely brushing the tip of your ear before his teeth offer a little nip that has your whole body shuddering. You’re brought back to your senses when you feel the arms he had snaked around your waist contract and pull up, gently placing you on top of the kitchen island.
“W-wait, we should go to the bedroom.”
Izaya seems unperturbed, fiddling with something behind you as his lips leave a trail of searing kisses along your neck. He doesn’t make a move to acknowledge your suggestion until you place your hands on his shoulders and attempt to push him off of you, at which he naturally doesn’t budge a single centimeter.
“Hmm? I’m in the kitchen because I’m going to eat something--I don’t see the problem.”
Something in the pit of your stomach flutters at the implication and you can’t find it in yourself to argue further. He disconnects from your neck and takes a step back only to tug at the bottom of your top. You raise your arms obediently, the action almost instinctive at this point, and he pulls your shirt off of your body, wasting no time removing your bra immediately afterwards. You immediately shiver at the sudden cold and would have moved your arms in front of your chest in embarrassment at how the brightly lit kitchen in midday leaves you feeling more exposed than usual but Izaya moves quickly and his lips are already back on your neck before you can ever react. Out of the corner of your eye you noticed a bowl of fruits next to you that you didn’t remember being there before. You think nothing of it and let your eyes flutter closed when Izaya’s lips finally find your right nipple, sucking the nub into his hot mouth without hesitation, making your spine tingle. Your hands move up to clutch his dark locks, desperate for something to keep you grounded but the action only spurs him on further and he lets out a soft groan as he swirls his tongue around before scrapping the sensitive flesh with his teeth. You yelp when he sucks harshly, back arching away only for his hands to keep your firmly in place. He pulls back, releasing the nipple with a small pop before he moves his attention to it’s twin. You feel lightheaded with the contrast of cold air nipping at the rapidly cooling saliva on your right nipple while the left one is subjected to the blazing heat of Izaya’s mouth.
His right hand remains secured on the small of your back while the left first around to tease the nipple not in his mouth, mimicking the actions of his tongue with his fingers as he rolls the hardened bud in tight circles before pinching which his teeth nip. Your thighs rub together as you feel wetness pool in your underwear and you briefly wonder if it's possible to reach an orgasm with nipple stimulation alone.
Before you can find out firsthand, Izaya releases both of your nipples and pulls back. You can’t help the small whine that escapes your lips at the loss when both nipples now feel cold and achy. He giggles at that, the gleam in his vermillion eyes seeming dangerous.
“Don’t worry, princess, Izaya-sama will take good care of you~” he childishly promises, a stark contrast to the nimble fingers now unbuttoning your shorts before gently pushing your shoulder back until you lay flat on the marble counter. The surface is cold and hard, uncomfortable on your back, but the heat between your legs takes priority over all other discomforts. You waste no time lifting your hips so he can slide the fabric of your shorts and panties down your legs at once, all usual inhibitions seemingly lost when your head feels so fuzzy.
Izaya’s large hands firmly plant themselves on each of your knees and spread them apart slowly, like he’s opening his own personal Christmas present, until your heels are pressed into the edge of the counter. You can feel the cold air on your folds and know you must be absolutely soaked but you can’t resist chancing a glance up at Izaya’s expression.
Big mistake.
You can see the hunger in his eyes as his gaze is glued to the space between your thighs, licking his own lips in anticipation. Your core clenches at the sight and you feel more slick leaking out of your hole. His eyes follow the movement before he glances up at your flushed face and offers a knowing smirk. You think your soul just left your body.
His left hand slides down from your knee to your inner thigh, thumb resting right at the junction between your leg and pelvis right his right hand moves directly to your folds, two fingers gliding easily along the slick lips before reaching your clit, causing your whole body to jerk at the light contact.
He rubs circles around your clit through the hood until whines and soft moans are spilling your lips, his other hand teasing your folds with just his thumb. All movement stops abruptly and he pulls his hands away but before you can even mourn the loss of stimulation, his thumbs are hooked into each side of your folds and pulling your cunt open before he’s ducking his head down and swiping his tongue along the wetness. The moan that leaves your throat sounds nearly pornographic but you find it difficult to care when the tip of his wet tongue moves up to flick at your clit a few times before sliding back down and circling your small hole.
Izaya is neat and organized in all other aspects of his life but every time he eats your pussy it’s absolutely messy. Rather than lapping up your wetness he drools around his own tongue, making it ever wetter until every movement releases obscene clicks and sloshing sounds. He pulls back only a few centimeters, retracting his tongue back into his mouth for a second. You watch with morbid fascination as he collects the saliva in his mouth only to purse his lips over your pussy and let the liquid slowly drip down directly into your twitching hole. It feels dirty, it is dirty, but you can’t deny the flutter in your gut and the way your core absolutely pulses in pleasure as you audibly whimper. He keeps you spread open as his tongue delves back in, thrusting in and out of you before returning to your engorged clit. His right hand releases its hold only to push his middle finger inside of you, an easy glide with excess liquids dripping down to the counter by now. With each inwards thrust his finger curls upwards, stabbing a part of your fleshy insides that make your vision bloom until the kitchen lights above you are starbursts and everything is swimming.
The next time he pulls his middle finger out he presses his ring finger beside it and both are pressing into you, providing the slight sting of a stretch that has you keening while your cunt eagerly accepts them. His lips wrap around your clit to harshly suck as his two fingers press into that same spongy part and you’re seeing stars. You feel a familiar pressure in the pits of your belly, building bigger and bigger with each thrust of his fingers and scrape of his teeth against your clit. You’re going to cum soon.
“I-ngh--Izaya,” you whimper out, struggling to form the words you need to express your warning.
It is pointless really, Izaya is already exceptional at reading body language, even more so yours. He only hums in acknowledgement, the vibrations further stimulating your clit and making you press your hips forwards, seeking more as you draw closer and closer to the finish line. Every muscle in your body seems to contract as you feel it coming, tensing up in preparation for the impending release.
That’s when he decides to pull away.
You aren’t sure whether to cry or punch him in the face when you feel your incoming climax completely disappear, leaving your clit still throbbing and your hole empty, hopelessly clenching and unclenching around nothing. Your eyes open to give him the strongest glare you can muster only for him to not even be looking at you, instead fiddling with something you can’t see from your angle. You open your mouth, ready to curse him out until the words die in your throat as you watch him bring the fingers of high right hand that were just inside of you to his own mouth, casually licking them clean. Your heart stutters in your chest.
“Hmm...ah, this one is perfect.”
Your brows furrow in confusion as he seems to make up his mind about something. You move to sit up but he’s already back between your legs, grinning down at you as if he hadn’t just robbed you of an orgasm.
His left thumb slides back to your clit, making you shudder as a flame seems to rekindle inside of you. He wastes no time to set a fast pace rubbing your clit, quickly bringing you back close to where you were before but not quite. Then you feel something blunt pressed against your whole, much larger than any of his fingers. For a moment you think it might be his cock but you don’t recall seeing him unbuckle his pants at any point and the cool temperature is nothing like his familiar heat.
The object is circled around your hole and you notice it feels really smooth...like latex.
“Wh-what is that,” you ask nervously. The two of you haven't used toys before and you don’t recall him ever mentioning owning any.
His grin widens, seeming amused by your apprehension.
“You wanted to try strawberry, right? Well, I prefer bananas so why not both.”
You scramble to sit up and nearly have a heart attack when you see the curved yellow object wrapped in neon pink pressed against your pussy.
“Izaya, th-thats…!”
“Strawberry and banana--its like a smoothie~,” he explains proudly.
A sudden pinch on your clit has your arms faltering and makes you fall back, yelping as your back reconnects with the marble.
“Now be a good girl, yeah? I need to take care of this poor pussy.”
You choke on your own saliva as he presses the covered tip of the thick fruit into you, slowly stretching your hole open with a sharp sting.
“It’s just begging to be filled,” he croons.
You feel the stretch of each centimeter as he pushes it in but Izaya is relentless and doesn’t let up on the pressure until the tip bumps into your cervix and your muscles are spasming uncontrollably as your mouth opens in a silent scream.
“It’s...big,” you stutter out dumbly, hardly even aware you’re speaking out loud.
Izaya feigns an innocently concerned expression as his left thumb continues to rub circles into your clit.
“Ehh~? Then we’ll have to make sure we stretch you open properly ‘cause my cock is even bigger.”
You instinctively clench as you feel him pulling it out slowly, never fully removing it before he’s pushing it back in. The residual wetness from earlier makes a resounding squelch every time he pushes it back in that has your cheeks burning in shame.
With each thrust the stretch stings less and less, aided by his teasing on your clit never faltering, and instead you feel the familiar pleasure of having something thrusting inside of you, rubbing against your slick walls. The natural curve of the fruit forces the tip to hook into a spot just before your cervix then dragging along the top of your walls as it’s pulled out only to repeat the motion. That same pressure in your lower belly returns but a little stronger and you think if Izaya denies your orgasm this time you might actually die.
Izaya however, does not offer any indications that he plans to do so and instead moves his left hand from your cit to push your right thigh higher, your knee nearly touching your chest, so he has room to lean down use his tongue instead, right hand still continuing to fuck the banana into you, gradually quickening his pace until it feels punishing and its almost too much. The battering of the tip against your cervix has your body trying to pull away but Izaya’s hand keeps you firmly in place, forcing you to accept whatever he gives you.
It’s when he uses his teeth to lightly nibble on your bud while simultaneously shifting the angle of fruit that your climax rips through your body, setting every nerve ending in your body on fire and rendering your eyes useless as white blinds your vision. Your mouth is open and sounds are coming out but you yourself can’t even process what you’re saying. Izaya continues his assault with vigor, making you ride out your orgasm to its fullest before the come down has you too sensitive and using what little remains of your strength to kick him away and attempt to close your legs.
You hardly have the strength to deny him of anything on a good day, let alone after an intense orgasm, but he seems to be feeling generous enough to stop when you say it's too much. He pulls his head away from between your thighs and you try to ignore the glistening juices dripping down the corners of his mouth and smeared on his chin as he slowly removes the banana from your fluttering pussy. You feel empty again and you can literally feel your stretched hole gaping, leaving you feeling embarrassed. Izaya dips down suddenly to press a single peck to your clit. You whine softly in over-sensitivity but the unexpectedly sweet gesture makes your chest feel warm.
As you attempt to catch your breath, Izaya moves away again, removing the sticky condom from the fruit and throwing it in the trash bin before placing the equally sticky banana back on the counter next to the fruit bowl. You’re about to make a complaint when he moves back to your side, smirking at your disheveled state and picking you up, one hand behind your back and the other beneath your knees, to carry you to the bedroom.
He places you on the freshly made sheets gingerly, your body immediately sinking into the plush mattress like a puddle. He leaves the room only to return a few seconds later with a plastic bottle of water and a paper pamphlet you recognize as the menu to one of your favorite takeout restaurants. Your brows furrow in confusion as he takes a seat next to you on the bed, silently skimming through the menu, undoubtedly already knowing what both of you will order.
Despite the heaviness in your lids and bonelessness of your body, you sit up to question the man.
“Izaya?”
His eyes shift over to you in question, his expression dangerously mischievous yet unreadable as usual.
“Aren’t you...don’t you need to, like...get off?” you cringe at how awkward and undeniably unsexy your words sound and you can see the mirth in his gaze but he decides to spare you the teasing for now.
“Aww, my little human is so eager to please her god~” he lilts.
You roll your eyes in response before squealing when he pulls you into his arms, forcing you both to lie back down on the bed, entangled in his arms while he teasing blows a puff of air in your left ear just to watch you squirm as you try to get away.
“Don’t worry, y/n-chan, I’m satisfied just watching you.”
Your chest swells and your annoyed expression melts into a small smile at the implication that he cared more about your own pleasure and exhaustion than his own needs--
“I never would have thought you’d enjoy getting fucked by a fruit so much~! Next time should we try a cucumber?”
You have zero regrets when you punch him in the chest.

I’m honestly not mad at the way Jon’s character was written in the premier. It was everything we could want if Jonsa and Pol Jon is to be believed.
I don’t want fellow members of this ship to turn on Jon or call him an idiot or that he wasn’t showing Sansa enough respect this episode. He really is working with what he has and he’s walking on thin ice with a lot of things up in the air. Let’s give the guy a break when we really look at the circumstances of his situation and try to find a reason for his actions in the first episode.
We see Jon already trying to warn Daenerys again that the North will not like her and keep her appeased even from the very start of the episode. We have to look at him from his POV. The North can go on mistrusting Daenery and they can be angry with him that he bent the knee and gave away his crown. But they’re going to be alive to do so. Jon’s in laser focus mode and he’s accomplished what he set out to do, get dragonglass and come back with support that can surely help win the war or the very least give them a fighting chance. When he’s hearing the lords out to their problems does he stand up for Daenerys?
Defend her to the lords? Give any praise or back his reasoning that she is the rightful queen as he did at the DragonPit to Cersei? No. We get none of it. Instead we have Jon confirming what’s essentially the basics of the Pol Jon theory.
Tumblr media
(Ignore the grammar issue this was rushed)
Jon would never prioritize a title over the survival of his people. (Even though it’s a lot more than that) That’s what his whole mission was about and that is STILL his mission. He does not speak for Daenerys as a queen but as what she can bring for the fight. He is putting everything else aside to focus on the bigger picture.
But while he’s trying to juggle maintaining this grasp of the situation he’s putting more and more on the line for this to work.
I saw some fans say that Jon just sat by and let Daenerys threaten Sansa that way. I personally don’t see it like that anymore. Jon is listening but he cannot react what so ever right now. The camera keeps him in the frame and he’s acting as if he did not hear what he just did. But if you look at him, Jon looks restrained as if he’s holding back on purpose here. If Jon were shocked by Daenerys behavior here we would have seen a shot of his reaction to this statement because it would have been a surprise his lovely queen is threatening his sister. Instead, Jon says nothing.
Tumblr media
Jon hasn’t forgotten what Daenerys is. And he certainly doesn’t forget she expects others to turn on their family for her own benefit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why did we need a specific reaction of Jon here? Because he couldn’t believe what she was saying to Tyrion and how angry she got at the prospect of Tyrion having any other loyalties expect to her.
And this isn’t the only time Daenerys vaguely threatens Sansa either to Jon or while he is right there. First in the greathall and than out at the courtyard when Daenerys brings up the fact that Sansa doesn’t like her. Jon tries to end the discussion and again, calm Daenerys.
Tumblr media
Jon doesn’t care about this. He never has.
Tumblr media
But he’s trying to keep the topic light hearted and playing it off as if this is just Sansa’s thing and she has to warm up to you. But what follows is telling to just how guarded Jon is. especially around Daenerys.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We know what Daenerys is implaying here and Jon knows what Daenerys is implaying. This conversation is strangely cut off but not before we get a shot of Jon who’s face tells us nothing of what he maybe thinking of this comment right here because he doesn’t say a word. We’ve seen Jon in season 7 promise to protect her, watch over her, and keep her safe. Looking back now I think those scenes were planted so we could see the contrast in how aggressive he can be when it comes to Sansa and how simply clueless he is about her with Daenerys.
And then after this. Mr Jon “there’s no time for this.” Snow decides to take a joy ride with Daenerys and puts himself in a situation he does not want to appease her. When she suggest he ride her dragon he’s hesitant but her persistence doesn’t leave him room to deny after how poorly she was received at court. They ride together and Daenerys is oblivious to Jon’s behavior or the fact you have Drogon staring him down. Listen to your pets girl! Drogon knows!
Another comment I saw fans have an issue with is during the reunion between Jon and Arya in the Godswood. It’s sweet and there’s some banter involving their weapons but the conversation quickly turns it around to Sansa and Daenerys.
Tumblr media
Thank goodness for the Jonsa fans who made the argument that this comment could simply be Jon connecting with Arya the only way he knows how since the last time they saw each other back in season 1! He’s used to the Arya who could make jabs at Sansa like they were when they were kids. We actually had a moment in the books where after he gives Arya needle he insist that they “Don’t tell Sansa.”
This is highlighted when he’s shocked to see Arya defending Sansa because that is not the girl he remembers. He remembers them always getting in each other’s hair and now they are a unit. He also gives the same look to Bran after their reunion as he does to Arya because Jon doesn’t know who they anymore. I really don’t think he meant anything serious behind it because when the scene goes on we see Jon wants Sansa to be with him. He needs her support and he also craves it when he tells Arya she’s his family too and this is an on going issue with Jon and Sansa that hasn’t quite been resolved yet. Jon desperately wants Sansa to know he’s doing the best for their family and her and he asks as much during their private conversation.
Tumblr media
This could have been a scene that absolutely crushed the Pol Jon theory if Jon felt he could let his guard down and express how he feels about Daenerys and how much he believes in her. It can cement Sansa as a confidant and instead we have Jon saying the same thing he’s been saying since season 7. He only talks as what Daenerys can bring to their survival. Even when Sansa makes an indication that the only difference between Daenerys and her father is in her looks, Jon doesn’t correct her. Which would have been a good time to switch the dialogue and have Jon claim Daenerys is not her father after Sansa remarks this. And she asks him point blank. And he never answers. I don’t need to discuss the implication when many of you have already noticed it.
We haven’t seen Jon this emotionally bare since his reunion with Arya and Bran but there’s tension in this scene unlike there was with the first two. He’s visibly stressed in this conversation. He’s sighing deeply and it always feels as though this is intimate and personal. Like there’s something left unsaid when there shouldn’t be. They spoke of politics for only a moment before Sansa made it personal with the “No she’s much prettier” comment and Jon’s “Do you have any faith in me at all?” They want to be a team but Sansa is hesitant on if Jon is doing the best to protect the family and Jon is desperate to show Sansa he is.
Then near the episode we have Jon hit with the sledgehammer and adding another layer to an already complex situation. Jon is informed by Sam that not only did Daenerys burn his father and brother, not only is Jon asked if he would have done the same, he’s then told he’s the heir to the Iron Throne. More importantly, he’s Daenerys rival to the Iron Throne and has Sam telling Jon Daenerys should not be queen.
Think of what’s going through Jon’s mind here. He doesn’t correct Sam. He doesn’t defend her or really anything. He has a horrified look on his face. Not only is all this heaped on him in an instant, they also give us a little foreshadowing when Jon says “My father was the most honorable man I’ve ever met, and he lied to me my whole life?” We already had Jon tell this to Jorah. Why not save it for this moment instead? But it’s a reminder to the audience that the honorable Ned Stark kept a lie for love for years. Even to his family and those he loved the most.
Daenerys is murdering lords who didn’t bend, she threatened Sansa earlier that episode. Who’s to stop her if a lord speaks out? Or refuses to bend? Who’s to stop her if Sansa didn’t bend? Arya or Sam? And the notion terrifies Jon when he can only say that’s “treason” as if he’s trying to handle both the NK and this wildcard who could kill them all if she so pleased.
Jon didn’t forget who he was. Daenerys was the lesser of two evils and he’s thinking short term to end this war. He tells Sam this very thing when he learns of the Taryls deaths. He’s dead focus on this mission and unlike Melisandre, he can’t just send this one off. He’s forced to work with those who can be life or death (to his knowledge) for his people. Didn’t he learn that back in season 2?
Overall this is the first episode and we shouldn’t jump on Jon if everything isn’t perfect or how I feel it should be said. I think this episode was great for us in terms of theories and i believe we will have a situation where Jon must choose duty or love and this time it’ll be for love.
