My straight (homophobic at that time) older brother watching me play kh II 15(?) or so years ago on the ps2: 'these dudes are gay, wtf' 'why are they holding hands?'

My brother watching me replay the kh games at the start of the pandemic: 'Damn, I remember them being gay, but not this much. Good for them.'

I literally didn't even remember how extremely gay they were, cause I was 10 at the time but fr. If my brother saw it aged 15, I don't get how so many people keep saying it's a reach to ship them.

See the thing is like. Holding hands is not always romantic, you know? Idk if I even consider Sora dropping to his knees crying and clutching Riku’s hand in KH2 “romantic.” Not on its own, at least.

It’s a very intense reaction. Imo it’s still the most emotionally bare we’ve seen Sora thus far. Because he’s not trying to hold anything back. In KH3, when everyone except Riku dies, I get the sense that Sora’s trying to keep it together but can’t and feels (even more) pathetic because of that. But, in KH2, when Sora finally finds Riku, his heart’s just unashamedly spilling out of him and it’s so raw you can feel it, and Nomura is so insane for writing Sora and Riku’s reunion like this. (It’s going to take a lot to top it, and I’m really excited to see him try.)

But it’s not the kind of gesture you can slap a romantic label on and be done with. Rather, it shows this profound, overwhelming love in general. You could label it a lot of things, but Nomura’s choice to make this Sora’s most vulnerable moment communicates This is the person I feel the most for. This is the person I love the most. (And even if we do consider Sora’s vulnerability here on the same level as the KH3 scene, what does it say that just finding Riku, just seeing him again, is as overwhelming for Sora as witnessing the deaths of almost all of his closest friends? Opposite sides of the emotional spectrum, but the same level of intensity, bringing him to his knees, reducing him to tears. That’s a choice.)

My straight boyfriend played the games along with me and even he picked up on Sora’s love for Riku being stronger than his love for any other character. We commonly associate “the person I love most” with a romantic partner, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be. And I’m quite a big fan of stories where it’s not, where the heart of the story — the love story — is between family or friends. So I won’t be hugely disappointed if KH ends with no confirmed ships. (No ships would be preferable to… other things.) That said… when viewed collectively, in the context of the other games, I don’t think it’s a stretch to argue Sora and Riku’s KH2 reunion could be romantic.

Every game makes the love between these two boys more and more pronounced — they are clearly the heart of the story — but the last few installments arguably have slid into more romantic territory. We’re seeing more romantic tropes, dialogue, parallels. We’re at the point where Riku’s feelings for Sora are directly paralleled to Hercules’ romantic feelings for Meg. I mean, that’s pretty in your face gay. Among other things. So while on its own the KH2 reunion is not “romantic” imo, the increasing romantic nature of Sora and Riku’s bond can re-contextualize it as such.

If you didn’t pick up the gay shit CoM was putting down (which is highly probable because the EN dub butchered the JP so much), 15 years ago, was the ship a reach? Eh, maybe. I didn’t consider a romance between Sora and Riku until I hit Coded and DDD. (And there’s nothing wrong with enjoying a noncanon ship, as long as you’re not hurting anybody — which is something a lot of people seem to forget.) Is Soriku a reach nowadays? No way. It’s written as a logical direction their characters could go in. If you don’t see anything between them, not a single romantic undertone, it’s because you don’t want to.

So in my Sora and Vanitas swap AU, Sora takes the role of Vanitas being all of Ventus's “Darkness” Everything is the in this but just that Sora still has his hero-happy personality with a pinch of Vanitas personality too you know. And, since everything is likely the same as normal bbs universe that means Sora has the same relationship that Vanitas has with his Master, Xehanort. (If you read the novel you would know what I mean idk if you did ) And, with that Sora tries to make Xehanort proud and happy for him. (He just wants a loving father-and-son relationship but knowing Xehanort he not gonna have that.) Which starts his envy of Ventus having stuff he doesn't.

At the beginning of birth by sleep before Aqua and Terra starts their exam Xehanort tells Sora about the Keyblade X and how if he wants Sora to merge with Ventus so he can have it and that he would be proud of him if he could do that for him. Which, Sora of course is happy because “He would be proud of me!” But, Xehanort knowing how excited he would get by this news, Xehanort tells him the downside about it which is if he doesn't do it he’ll kill him, Sora is Struck by this but doesn't give up on himself.

All that stuff in the game blah, blah. Just that Sora is thinking about being whole again. Being whole means he and Ventus would be together but he doesn't know if he wanted that. He kinda like being his own person and felt happy just being Sora. This whole situation makes him go down a spiral with his emotions getting worst making the monsters he created stronger.

But, he doing this for his Master and he needs to make him proud of him. On the battlefield, Sora feels nervous and scared and tells his Master I don’t about doing this also that he wants to be his own person Xehanort doesn't take it kindly to this new and tells him to do it or else... Which, Sora tire to act bravely while he completely crumbles under the scenes.

And, yeah, yeah, all that stuff happens and Sora and Ventus make it into Stations, and before Sora tells Ventus that he is finally proud to do this and his master would be proud of him too. But Ventus is like “What if I destroy the keyblade?” Sora didn't think bout that part, “I don’t know. But all I know is that I’m winning this…” Ventus chuckled “Hm, alright then. We’ll see…” They fight yeah, yeah. And before fully finishing off Sora, he tells him that “The keyblade is the both of us So if I destroy it I’ll destroy you as well.” This Throws Sora off his game and sends him into a fit yelling and screaming at Ventus, “You get everything! Everything that I wanted! A loving family, friends, and praise! Hell, you even get to be your own person!” As those words fell out his mouth Ventus give him the final strike.

Ventus smile and laugh n laugh before noticing, he was crying and shaking. “Sora...?” “This is all your fault! Do you think I wanted to do this?” Ventus watched as his other half was in pain and he feel every bit of it...“I hate this job...Every out of I had just ended up with me dying...” “I don’t understand. Then why did you do it?” “I just wanted someone to be proud of me...That's all...” Before Ventus could get a word in Sora faded away leaving him all alone with feel horrible feelings and regret…

that sounds super interesting actually!! i havent read the kh novels yet (i was considering getting them but now i definitely am) and i never actually finished bbs either (💀) but i really like how you explore ventus and soras relationship because from what i know about bbs i dont think they really do that with ventus and vanitas and them both feeling similar about their circumstances but cant really communicate that and feeling pitted against eachother is rlly cool i think!!

13.do you multiship?

I do multiship yes, but it depends on how comfy I am with the other writer. If I do multiship, the relationships are in different timelines. They aren’t within the same one at all. If you manage to like a character I write for but it says I am shipping them with someone already. That is only main shipping partner. I don’t mind shipping that character with others but the same rules for shipping will apply. Chemistry needs to be worked on, and the other writer needs to come talk to me about it.

Even on my carrd I know a few characters I have shipped with and my writing partner's tag but know that I am open to shipping others with those characters just it needs to be a conversation. Example though, Stella canon ship will always be with G'raha but if someone wanted to ship with her can definitely make a verse around that.

14.would you rather ship only with mutuals, or are you open for everyone?

I ship only with mutuals, this is mainly a comfort thing. I need to know that I can trust someone with my muses before any sort of shipping to happen. I will state that this can change if people reach out to discuss things outside rp and even showing an interest in the ship. I have just had bad experiences myself where it felt like someone really wanted to ship with one of my characters but ended up ghosting me. I eventually found out they found someone else to write a ship with that writes the same character and that hurts.

It's just..a respect thing. If you don't want to ship with me anymore please tell me versus just ignoring my existence and acting like all the writing we did was for nothing. This is a huge reason why I am so protective over my muses in regards to romance dynamics. It's awful being made to not feel good enough and the person doesn't have guts to tell you.

23.have you ever been pushed to ship something?

I have been pushed in the sense people would just send me romantic rp starters without talking to me about the dynamic first. I know since I started writing on here that my shipping rules have relatively been the same. To communicate with me, the writer. That's like a tiny thing..I did have someone try and force a ship with multiple of my characters before. They were on different platform and kept trying flirt with each one. It seemed like they were just there to want to do shipping stuff yet didn't want to put in the effort to work on that dynamic.

I think it was mostly some of my KH muses this happened to..which I do very light fluff with them considering they are still young. Anyway, that was one experience I can recall. There was one recently where someone kept sending my Ashley romantic stuff..and that ship isn't one I will ever write for at all. It makes me uncomfortable and people need understand that she is still young and the age gap between those two is just..nope.

24.have you dropped a ship in the past? why?

I have had to drop ships in the past, it's not something I like doing and other times it wasn't even my choice. This goes back to part of my answer earlier. I get super invested into ships that I write with friends. I want to gush about them..come up with head canons, verses and thread ideas. I even sit down and make the ship a playlist..I just want feel that reciprocated. Like I stated before, I have had people end up just ghosting me. Please don't do this. I am slow at replying to stuff yes, but I do put in the effort to each thread I work on. Part of me feels like maybe they just didn't like how I wrote the character, which again I am not asking people stay if they don't want to just move on.

The only other time I dropped a ship was due to health reasons. The drama I was getting wrapped up in wasn't worth it. I was tried of trying my best write only be made feel it wasn't good enough.

35.how would your muse react to someone flirting with them?

It depends on the muse, if we are talking about Stella, she would honestly be super confused at first. It's rare for anyone to flirt with her. The only one that does is G'raha but he doesn't flirt like everyone else. He is tender with her, which she hasn't felt at all growing up in the village like she did. Anyway, if someone came up to her and called her pretty. She could feel humbled but also shocked because it's a rare occurrence.

i still cant believe they did will like that. like why did he just get bullied and harassed so fucking badly man. and why did No One take accountability for that. iirc the birds that kidnapped him never got killed, and will is on the verge of tears apologizing for asking how they grow plants without the sun and also under the belief he’s gonna get abandoned in tartarus meanwhile nico is like five seconds away from telling will to khs like oh my god leave him alone 😭 he’s being stupid can’t you just communicate that instead of subtly getting mad at him without telling him whats wrong. the writers do all that but then present will as someone with no issues and trauma at all too like girl he’s literally getting traumatized, just not by whatever’s going on in tartarus. TSATS!will needs to run FAR far away from TSATS!nico. TOA!solangelo is my best friend now i’m holding them precious in my hands knowing what will become of them. oh the horrors.

okay first of all this ask is hilarious.

second of all i must say i don’t completely agree. while i didn’t enjoy the constant arguing and disliked the way nico felt outright mean a couple of times (the scene where he makes will sob lives in my brain rent free. holy guacamole), it was an interesting choice and made them fleshed out as characters and as a couple. clearly the lack of communication, while annoying, was written intentionally and i can respect that.

it did make the book less enjoyable to me and to you, but it’s a writing choice that i can’t berate because at the end of the day it’s valid. not every relationship is all sunshine and roses and if that’s how rick sees solangelo, then that’s that.

do i mourn their ToA selves? yes lmao honestly. they felt fun and natural. but to be fair we were seeing only a 10% of them, and it was from apollo’s perspective.

the reasons i disliked the book mostly regard the plot points and the writing. which are atrocious, i’m sorry. also nico in general was done big disservices.

but yeah, while i occasionally banged my head against the wall and thought “WHY THE HELL ARE YOU TWO EVEN TOGETHER” i do see where rick and mark were going with all that. it felt a bit heavy ended at places if you know what i mean (Will pretty much spells out that they had communication issues at the end lol) and a bit too much as if the authors were trying to teach the reader a lesson about relationships instead of just letting the plot flow, but the conflict itself wasn’t a bad idea.

i even liked it!! i did like the scene where will sobs and thinks nico is gonna abandon him because it felt real. and nico was a bit of an asshole throughout so i had predicted will was gonna break at some point.

he did deserve an apology in the end, in my opinion, but many readers feel like it’s the other way around so who knows. i’ve noticed ToA fans seem to be mostly on Will’s side while people who are neutral/didn’t particularly like/didn’t read ToA are mostly on Nico’s. so that’s fun.

1. when are you usually online?  

My mornings and evenings, mostly. I work on weekday afternoons, so I’m rarely active then! I’m also a night owl, so my bedtime is anywhere between 11pm and 2am depending on how much the day drained me.

2. what verses are you involved in outside of this page?

I write mostly in a semi-canon verse for Ryu, though I’m also building an AU Pokemon verse for him! (Speaking of, if this is asking what other fandom verses I write in, Pokemon is currently the main one! I have a fandomless OC as well, and Noragami muses!)

3. what is your biggest RP pet peeve?

Got a couple that go hand in hand:

1. Real time RP. As in, the passage of REAL time affects the threads and relationships, and if I disappear for a day the other muse is wondering where mine was. (This is why the vast majority of my stuff is plotted or semi-plotted.)

2. Endless domestic shippy fluff. I like ships, but I prefer a slow burn with plenty of outside drama, not... happy married life.

Other than those... I also really don’t like purple prose.

4. are you drawn to specific types of muses?

I really like characters with an internal struggle who also want to make the world better in some way. Even if they make a lot of mistakes, they’re trying.

5. are there recurring themes in your writing that people might not notice?

I don’t know if it’s hard to notice the themes I like? But I think a big one is the ripple effect: a person’s actions will leave marks on the world around them.

Sometimes, a small gesture makes a big impact.

6. what are your favorite RP trends?

I’m very glad to see more people writing relationships BEYOND romantic ships. Last time I was active, it felt like... those were the main thing people cared about, and partners that wanted to stay friends (or explore stuff like rivalries!) would get dropped super quick.

I also think the little banners people use now are super neat? I love how people find and make stuff that fits their muse!

7. what is your process for starting a new story with someone?  

Meetings are some of my favorite things to approach, actually! I try to figure out an idea that’s fun and memorable, and as unique as possible! (Naturally, there is bound to be some overlap. Especially because I adore certain tropes, lol.)

I also try communicate with my RP partners, figure out what sorts of things we both would like to explore with our characters! I think it’s important to be on the same page about the general direction threads are going.

8. how do you feel about duplicates?

I adore other Replikus, and whenever I write with them I have a lot of fun! It’s so interesting to see how people choose to develop the character, what name they have him go by, whether or not they make changes to his appearance... and of course, how similar and different they all are from Riku AND each other!

Plus, the threads themselves tend to be funny. It’s amusing how often they can actually tell it’s another replica! “Wait, you’re not HIM, you’re ME!”

9. how long have you been involved in roleplaying?

RP in general? About 14 years!

Tumblr RP and Ryu specifically? It’ll be 10 years next March!

10. is there a muse or verse you wish you could write in, but haven’t?

There’s a lot of muses I would love to write, but I just don’t have the time or energy to have more or get involved in totally unfamiliar fandoms.

I haven’t gotten to dive into Ryu’s Pokemon Verse much yet, but I’m excited about it! Other than that, I think the only underused verse that I COULD do a lot more with is “Sleeping to Dream.” I’d love to rp out the adventure Ryu and Xion had playing the Reaper’s Game! (A lot of the active TWEWY blogs don’t seem to interact with KH blogs, though.)

When I first saw Odin and I went "I don't trust you". I'm winning at my gut reaction to things but at what cost.

He's the worst old man in kh so far i think. He knew a lot of things and just made every thing worse by doing nothing. Actually everyone made things worse in khdr cause they didn’t communicate basically at all. Odin is just the worst of it cause hes the ONE ADULT and the only teacher we know and see in this time.

Like wtf was he taught and why he teach the kids almost nothing. Actually no he did teach them nothing. I refuse to believe he actually taught them anything that did not come back to bite them in the worst ways thus he taught them nothing.

Random headcanon kh spitballing here (Unfinished)

Xehanort doesn’t know everything that’s going to happen right? He looked at the BoP but from what I know it was more like a glance, he didn’t read the whole thing front to back and do every single thing it said in there. So, he shouldn’t have known about Roxas.

I know he “planned for every eventuality” but even for him it’s a little far fetched for him to make a plan where he loses so many times before he “wins,” and yet he still loses. What’s the point, you know? Xehanort wasn’t a man who seemed to care much about fate or the future, so I don’t see him going this far out of his way to “maintain balance” and let things run their course to the “correct” because that’s so much work for something he gets nothing out of. So, why go recruit Roxas?

Does he really assume (or “know”) from meeting the kid once and getting his ass handed to him by him that Sora’s the one to fulfill his plan? He lost! And he was dead at this point. If he doesn’t know the entire future than this was a major hiccup/setback. His consciousness was technically scattered to the winds even though he was supposed to be the hooded figure in kh1 that became Ansem. I’m supposed to believe he was operating his empty-heart-tank and watching all this go down and when destroyed he just chilled as a little heart piece as he waited for the rest of the pieces to fall into place? (An entirely different question/rant of how when being dead like 5 different times his pieces stayed in one place for a course of 3 years because this is kh and that’s semantics, right?)

So, with him having no idea about the future, Sora, or what his involvement meant, I really don’t see reason as to why Xemnas would’ve pursued Roxas for him join join the Organization.

Except one.

The connection between Terra and Ventus.

Let’s say we believe it possible that while Xehanort waited to be restored Xemnas and Xehanort would be able to communicate. After finding Roxas, yes I believe Mega-Mastermind Xehanort would’ve figured out a way to deploy Roxas into his plans (which makes all his failures with the fake Kingdom Hearts make sense and proof he didn’t actually know everything, he just planned around all his mess ups a thousand times. Prepare to be unprepared and plan ahead that you will fail is Xehanort’s motto even up to Melody of Memory with Unreality, I guess), but before? When Ansem just got destroyed and Xemnas just came into existence and he didn’t intercept either of them yet to tell the plan? I don’t buy it.

I do think Xemnas would have intimate knowledge about Roxas and Sora’s situation but not because of Old Man Xehanort. Instead, through Ansem. Ansem was already aware of Nobodies, so his Evil Scientist Brain would’ve known that to get Kairi to open Kingdom Hearts while in Sora, he’d create a Nobody from releasing their hearts. So when that happens and also happens to Ansem, Xemnas is already aware that whatever next Nobody he finds in the Realm Between, chances are it’s gonna be Sora’s. So, knowing who Roxas is and where he’d be? Check.

But still, not motive for why he goes to him.

“The best way to make friends is to talk to people!”

coincidentally also the best way to make sure I never have any.

I know the phrase “friendship is a two way street” and I find myself almost always being the one reaching out to people, and often when people reach out to me...they need something from me, a person to fulfill a task, the same way someone reaches out for a broom when they remember there are dust bunnies under the countertop that have sat there for months and need to be taken care of before the actually important people come over. They don’t reach out because they want a person to talk to. They don’t reach out because they want to talk to me, specifically. Just a body to fill a void.

I notice another situation like “I am sending this meme to a bunch of people at once, if you respond, I won’t really notice” happens a lot as well.

Then one of my favorites, people pretending to give a shit about me, so they can get my guard down just enough to attack. Self explanatory there. Teaching myself the red flags to catch it early is a huge pain in the ass.

And my most favorite is when I do genuinely think I have a friend! We talk regularly, keep up, enjoy time spent together, vent, share, and I don’t think they’re faking it and playing nice- all of it-but... now something is, off. Yep. They’re gone. Little to no real warning, no explanation. All doors closed behind them, locked. Others telling me “it’s them not you,” dulls absolutely none of the loss. And, I am pretty sure it’s a lie said to make me feel better anyway. They purposefully leave me there to hurt, alone, knowing that loss is something I have struggled with.

I find that anyone I consider to be a friend, or could be, after my energy is spent trying to keep up communicating with them, I leave the door open for them to talk to me. DMs open, forever. They don’t go through the door though. It’s taken a while to realize that I’ve left doors open for people that I never should have opened. Why did any of them bother befriending me in the first place? Questions that will go unanswered.

And I know I am at least likeable to some degree, very few people outright despise me, most people seem to give me the impression that they either don’t mind me being around them, or haven’t given me much reason to believe I make a negative impact anywhere. People are friendly towards me, and I am friendly right back, I try to be myself, and that doesn’t seem to bother anyone...so, why doesn’t anyone stick around?

I only close the door on people who have really done damage. And they’re warned beforehand. Lots of chances, lots of effort on my part to avoid it.

Some doors get opened up, because sometimes, something is better than nothing. I’d really like to just have friends that are truly there for me, don’t disappear, and just actually enjoy interacting with me. It’s way too difficult for me to be the one putting all my effort and care in, and have it thrown in my face.

I am exhausted. Thinking about it from a KH perspective doesn’t help much either, because I think about people far more often than they will ever think of me. It’s a struggle to remember I exist at all. If I fell off the face of the earth, pretty much no one would notice. And I know that because I did go silent for a while, to see, and I got silence in response.

“Shit, shit, shit,” she hissed, ducking behind the metal crate in the warehouse as bullets whizzed above and beside her. Her fingers felt along the side of her ribs, sliding easily and she pulled her hand into her vision, seeing them slick with crimson. “Ah fuck.” She pulled a small black device from her belt and flicked the top off, aiming it to her gunshot wound. Pressing the button, she bit back a cry of pain as a freezing cold aerosol spray hit the wound, but it was effectively sealed, and she tossed the can once it was empty.

A bullet ricocheted from the metal beam adjacent of her, striking near her foot and she yanked her leg in, narrowly avoiding any more. She had to get out of this. If she stayed any longer, she was going to get pumped full of lead by turrets and militia members. Of course, Bruce would send her to an overrun military compound without backup.

She almost puked right then. Did I just think I can’t do this? Frowning, she pressed the side of her cowl and watched the world light up in a blue wave. She could see the turrets and the soldiers from her side of the crate. I need to move. This crate isn’t going to hold for much longer.

Her fingers felt along her belt for the last of her flashbangs and she looked through the crate. I can throw the flashbang. It’ll disorient the soldiers long enough that I can take out the two automated turrets before—

An explosion blew out the wall behind the turrets and men and she watched in stunned silence as the militia members dropped, throats slit, and the turrets were dismantled. It all happened within seconds and whatever had done it was darting around in her vision, but it was scrambling her detective mode and she jerked away from the crate. Whatever this was—was not taking prisoners.

She clambered to her feet and started sprinting for the exit, a hand going to her ear. “Batman this is Widow-Maker, come in!” she only heard static returned, and she felt the panic set it. “Batman, come in! The target’s been eliminated but not by me! I’m engaged in—”

Something darted from the corner of her eye, and she barely had time to react when it collided with her, hard enough that it knocked the wind from her lungs and sent her to the floor. She rolled onto her stomach and coughed, shifting when it came at her again.

“What the fu—”

“Your detective mode won’t help you see me.” Their voice was modified. “It’s funny that Bruce still uses the same wavelengths to communicate on.” They stomped down at her, and she rolled out of the way, sliding along the floor to kick their legs out from underneath them.

“Who are you!” she shouted when they dodged her and she climbed to her feet, hitting the side of her cowl. The blue world fell away, leaving her in the dark and she saw them. Their eyes were glowing blue and so was the tri-clasp on their chest.

“Take a guess, (Y/N).” She felt the breath leave her lungs at the use of her name and they caught it. “Surprised? I know everything about you. Name, age, birthday, birthplace. All your hopes and dreams.”

(Y/N) was honest to God terrified. Bruce could handle his emotions so much better than she could, especially when someone discovered his identity. But whoever this was? She didn’t know them, and she was scared that she was looking at her end.

“Who. Are. You.”

“That’s not a guess.”

She pulled the Ka-Bar from her thigh and flashed it. “I don’t want to guess who you are, but I’ll tell you this—come any closer, I’ll kill you.”

They chuckled and the robotic shrill sent shivers up her spine. “You don’t kill people, (Y/N). You’ve always been too soft to do that.”

Glaring at the blue slits, she threatened, “Come closer asshole and you’ll see how soft I am.”

She glared at him. “Don’t tell me I can’t say your name. I’m not the one who insulted you that night, Ghost-Maker.” Bending down, she picked up the knife, sheathing it. “What do you want?”

“To fight.”

(Y/N) rolled her eyes. “I’m not Bruce.” The slits started getting closer and she stood up. “I’m not going to fight you, Ghost-Maker.”

“You will.” He said and she stared into the blue lights as he stopped in front of her, chest to chest. “You want to.”

“Want and will are two very different things.” She stared him down. “Hit me if that’s what’s going to sail your ship, but I’m not going to hit you back.”

“Why not?” he asked. “Aren’t you mad that I killed your target?”

(Y/N) snorted. “Really? You think I’m mad that a despot got his throat slit? Hardly.” She pulled a flare from her belt and struck it, watching his form appear in the light. “I guess that means I should say thank you for the save.”

His eyes drifted from hers to the flare in her hand. “You carry magnesium flares with you?”

“You don’t?” she countered and then tsked at him. “Ghost-Maker that’s poor planning. Don’t you know that you might need light sometimes?”

“I know what you’re doing.” He griped at her, and she smirked.

“What? I’m not doing anything.”

“You’re trying to annoy me.”

(Y/N) reached out, poking him in the stomach. “Well, from how annoyed you sound…it’s working.” She tossed the flare to the ground and walked towards the exit.

“I like your name…Widow-Maker.”

“Thanks. I like yours too, Ghost-Maker. By the way...” She grinned back at him. “Tag. You’re it.”

“Son of a—”

And she was gone.

Horrortale: technically an alternate timeline instead of au. after a neutral run where undyne's queen the core malfunctions and food becomes scarce and people resort to eating humans because sans suggested it. Aliza is the protag. latest thing that happened in the ongoing comic was Aliza agreeing to go with Papyrus to solve his last puzzle. as for the appearance of sans he has a HUGE hole on his head and a red eye. he got the hole from undyne when she got his magic eye which was going to be used to power the core. sans didnt die tho and killed the guards holding him down and just took whatever eye was on the ground and used it as a replacement for his magic eye that's powering the core. i quote first words he said after putting the eye in his socket "who the fuck took my phone?". then the magic eye went apeshit and broke the core again. oh and also he made alphys braindead by quite literally scrambling her brain. yeah this au is rough sans hasn't really eaten anything since the core was destroyed since he decided not to eat any humans.

Dusttale: i think this was originally a korean au? basic rundown: too many genocide runs sans goes apeshit and tries to get his Lv up by killing monsters himself man went fuckin insane kills his brother blah blah blah edgy angsty au the ghost of papyrus haunts him n stuff. sans literally just looks the same except he has his hood on and sometimes artists draw him with papyrus's scarf. the cool artists draw him with his hood on and has the hood completely cover his face so u can only see his glowing pupils. although people call him dust sans he's actually named murder sans

Killer: so frickin similar to dusttale except sans goes apeshit because of the human being like "join me lmao". three different outcomes come from this. i think it was 1 sans joins human 2 sans joins human kills human later on 3 kills human or something. friends with color sans who is basically his impulse control. pretty sure his soul's fucked up and Color sans tries to make his soul un-fucked but Nightmare comes in and fucks up the progress. he has white shorts, his eye sockets are constantly pitch black and leaking tar or something also has a weird target thingy on his chest. OH YEAH ALSO HE HAS BEEF WITH UNDERSWAP SANS ALMOST FORGOT. basically swap sans tried to make killer good and then they had a fight, swap sans lost and was on the verge of dying thankfully swap papyrus was able to save him in time i think

Dreamtale: Dream isn't in the drawing but his brother, Nightmare is. Sooo he used to not look all goooy and have tentacles n stuff but then he ate a couple hundred apples and yeah. he's six years old apparently. Nightmare and Dream are supposed to be guardians of a tree that has 500 golden apples and 500 black n goopy apples. the golden aples are positive and the goop ones are negative. you're not supposed to eat either of them cus bad shit happens. Dream and Nightmare live in a village and for whatever reason they're all dicks to Nightmare because ooughh he's the guardian of negativity that's not baller. he also goes apeshit (do u see a pattern here) and eats a goopy apple n then becomes the goop man he is today. he fuckin eats 999 apples jesus christ. and the last one is eaten by Dream because if u eat all 1000 apples u become unstoppable and immortal. so that would be a bad thing if nightmare got the last one. wop wop wop these dude aren't sanses they only have the body of one if that makes sanse.

Error: manlet. he's literally an error and that's why he's like that. also he's technically not a sans now, the redesign for him was so that he could be in the creator's webcomic named Lucidia. Error sans, aka the destroyer of aus, finds aus to be mistakes so he tries to get rid of them. his process of doing this is simple: get the human soul to the void so that they can't reset, destroy the au. he primarily attacks using his strings which can wrap around one's soul and control them. he like some aus like outertale because of how open and empty it is. he likes to be alone and has haphephobia. if u touch him he'll glitch out and possibly crash. he crashes whenever gets overwhelmed. said crashing causes him to shut down and reboot and he's powerless while doing so. he's actually pretty easy to beat if you know how to push his buttons the right way. in the og ask error blog made by his creator Loverofpiggies he kidnaps Swap sans who tries to help Error become a better person. this ends horribly as error leaves Swap sans in the void who then becomes an error aswell due to being alone in the void too long. Error actually regrets doing that to swap sans

Aftertale: OK FUN FACT THE SANS OF THIS AU, WHO'S NICKNAMED "Geno" IS ERROR. aftertale is a comic made by LoverofPiggies it's been SOOOO long since i last read it so i cant really give a good summary. but anyways Geno is trapped in the loading screen with the human and will die if he leaves the loading screen. eventually from being in the loading screen for too long after the events of aftertale he becomes Error.

OOF WOWIE THERE'S SO MUCH TO GO

Underfresh: he's not even a sans either. "Fresh" is a parasite inhabiting a skeleton. his birthday is on 4/20 which is ironic cus he doesn't like drugs. he censors swears. he speaks 90's lingo and dresses like a neon sign. for some reason he has eyebrows and a gold tooth. the glasses he has can change text but normally defaults to "YOLO". he can't feel anything since he has no soul of his own and just latches onto the host's. instead he learns how to act from the people around him. not being able to feel actually bothers him a LOT

Echotale: Aka Gaster sans. uhhh this one was also a comic if i remember correctly. basically Frisk and G!Sans are the only ones in the au and they're trying to find the core to fix the fucked up timeline that they're in but the core keeps changing positions so that sucks.

Swapfell: originally made by Khhoppang who left social media. Started out as an Alphys x Undyne au so only those two were designed but Kh was planning to design more of the characters. before they could people had a field day with the idea of mashing two aus together and SO many people came up with their own designs for sans and papyrus. Khhoppang left social media because they got overwhelmed with all the art reposters and stuff, pretty sad. the appearance of the sans in that au is the purple one with a scythe (i dont think he has a scythe in the og design).

Swapfell Red: so basically this is the swapfell made by people that isn't Khhoppang. community made per se. Sans's appearance changes constantly because as said before many people made many different designs. typically he just looks like Swap sans but with red high heel boots and his color scheme fits underfell

Fellswap (gold): Au made by blackggggum. so swapfell is underswap turned fell, fell swap is underfell swapped it takes a bit to understand that. his appearance is somewhat similar to Swapfell red. He's kind to his friends but if ur his enemy he'll fucking deck you. he's blind in his left eye, the leader of the royal guard, and secretly into dressmaking. fun fact in this au Papyrus has autism

Xtale: uuuuhhhh so Cross is a complicated one. he's part of the royal guard along with papyrus. has beef with xgaster. responsible for the downfall of his au and then Underverse happens and Ink is all "oh cool someone to mess with" and they became friends for a bit then shit hit the fan

Underfell: OOOOO YES UNIRONICALLY ONE OF MY FAVORITES. So Underfell sans is actually a very powerful mf and constantly has his magic eye activated because he has so much magic. This au is also technically an alternate timeline where monsters "lost their humanity" as the creator put it. so basically trust in the underground is scarce. Sans and papyrus, contrary to many interpretations i fucking hate, are actually on good terms (and no sans doesn't call papyrus "boss" the creator said if he does he'd do it ironically and papyrus would hate it). Fun facts he pays Grillby in socks (grillby accepts the socks as payment and wears them), if u make grillby laugh he gives u a jacket that looks like his and it's heavily implied that sans made him laugh because their jackets are similar

Underswap: ah yes another classic that i love as well. originally made by PopcornPr1nce who fled social media because they hated how the majority fandom treated Underswap (Blueberry and Carrot were popular names for the fanon swap papyrus and sans). Swap sans is constantly infantilized by the community which sucks and i hate it so i draw my own very super cool version of him whom i kin because i am also very super cool.

Outertale: mainly an aesthetic au pretty sure there's no comic of it. basically, instead of underground they in space. outer sans dies in underverse after like minutes of screentime lmao

Epictale: a comic made by Yugogeer. the og comic was retconned and the creator loathes the original version and made a reboot that's much better. Sans actually dies very early in it because Yugo hates how Sans is almost always focused on in aus. also the creator hates how meme-y their sans has become (like him saying bruh every single sentence, using a rubber chicken as a weapon, cookies, etc.) he's friends with Cross but not in canon. He has a purple magic eye that makes him immortal and i think only epic gaster could remove it which is how sans was able to be killed when he fought gaster.

Temmietale: it's undertale but everyone is temmie, don't question it

Trainertale: it's undertale but it's Pokemon, don't question it

Dancetale: it's undertale but you dance instead of fight, don't

Mobtale/Mafiatale: im unsure if mobtale and mafiatale are separate or not but they are very similar. basically undertale but mafia it's self explanatory

THAT BASTARD INK: HOOO BOY SAVED THE WORST FOR LAST. FUCK THIS GUY/j. THIS DUDE. IS THE REASON IM STILL INTO UNDERTALE AUS. I LOVE EM SO MUCH. also technically not a sans. He comes from an unfinished au and ripped his own soul to escape said au and became an outcode. for so long he was just a soulless husk until someone drew him and he got splashed with paint which let him feel. soon he learned to keep the paint in vials so that he can be able to feel 24/7. And then he learned how to create things with a paintbrush and the paint and spent time alone drawing up his own world until a portal appeared and took him to the multiverse. now he encourages artists to keep creating aus. he's the protector of aus in the sense that he keeps other outcodes from disrupting the script of the au, so if it's pacifist and an outcode tries to kill people he'd stop them, if it's genocide and an outcode tried to help them he'd stop them. no matter what he wants the au to stay on script. fun fact the creator of ink and the creator of error never had them interact with each other in canon, that was all the fandom's doing. Contrary to popular belief he's not really considered "good" his alignment is officially "Chaotic neutral". I personally interpret him a lot more chaotic than in canon because it's fun but he's a pretty chill guy actually. he can just be a bit of an ass sometimes. According to the creator of Ink (who is Comyet) his interpretation in Underverse is not canon compliant. one of the biggest canon things that underverse contradicts is Ink deliberately not taking his vials. if he were to do that in canon he'd become a husk again which is the equivalent of him "dying". he was described as a walking corpse by Comyet, without the vials he can't function anymore. Like Error he's pretty easy to beat if you know his weaknesses. also he has fears of empty spaces and being alone

off topic kinda but i very much love how Error and Ink are opposites yet parallel even though they were completely written without the other in mind. Error believes getting rid of aus is getting rid of anomalies. Ink believes people interfering with aus are anomalies. Error loves emptiness, Ink hates emptiness. list goes on it's funky fresh.

Tldr: As a CSA Survivor, voicing concerns of things I have heard people talk about on these topics in online spaces that does more damage than good to victims, survivors, and minors. I am only one voice, so please listen to all csa survivors, victims, and minors about this topic.

I don’t speak for everyone who is a CSA Survivor. We all have different experiences and feelings, some things may be less triggering or concerning for some more than others. Other CSA Survivors feel free to talk about your own feelings, experiences, and things you wished others knew as well since every CSA Survivor’s voice should be heard, not just my own.

These are my thoughts and some of the grievances I’ve had, the invalidation of my trauma, the things that have triggered back the trauma I thought I was able to heal so long ago, and I’m tired of it.

P*dophilia is not a term where you can just throw it around at anyone and everything. Be mindful where and how you use it. Do not let the severity of this word go down. It is not a joke. It is not some fun trendy buzzword. It is not a topic just for fictional media. It is a serious issue that harms so many children in the world.

Do not invalidate the trauma of victims by focusing on just fictional characters. Reporting fictional content as CP is not as helpful as you think. Investigators are on the look out to help save real children. Putting thousands of fanart/fanfics of fictional characters at the top of their feed lets p*dos hide easier and thus causes real children to still be trapped in their situation. If the fanart/fanfics is of real minors though, action should be taken.

You need to be a protector for real children. Learn the warning signs. Learn the prevention. Learn how to act if a real child has been harmed so you can help them. If you just treat it as a joke and use the word willy nilly on things that it does not actually pertain to it is immensely performative, makes it harder for investigators to find true perpetrators, and thus only hurts more kids than helps.

Clothing ≠ p*dophilia

Jfashion such as lolita and fairy kei is not p*dophilic or p*do-baiting. I don’t know why this has become the trend to call it that.

When you say this it sounds like victim blaming. “Well it’s what they wore.” Which is terrible. If you think wearing “childish” clothing is inherently sexual YOU are very much the problem.

Clothing is not what grabs p*dos attention. Clothing doesn’t do anything. It is a self expression for the wearer and that is it. For p*dos, it is the child themself they’re grossly invested in, not the clothes.

If you look at the origin of jfashion styles such as lolita, one part of the meaning is the resistance of sexualizing a person’s body. It also has nothing to do with the book so, stop equating them as the same.

Watching kid tv shows or movies, playing kid friendly video games, owning plushies or other kid toys ≠ p*dophilia

If you see an adult who is into movies/shows, toys, games made for kids chances are it could possibly be a CSA Survivor and this is their coping mechanism as a way to heal. To reclaim what was taken from them. Giving back to that inner child that never got the chance to live it. Even if they are not a CSA survivor, it could be an adult finally getting that doll they’ve wanted since they were little but could never get. Giving back to their inner child in that way. For me personally, KH is part of this for me. It has been my coping mechanism/safe haven since I was little. It is something I know I can always go back to that doesn’t bring harm to me. It’s an escapism from trauma and anxiety.

Height differences ≠ p*dophilia

An adult who is shorter than their significant other who is also an adult is not p*dophilia. A short adult is not “minor-coded.” They are just a short adult. A taller adult liking a shorter adult does NOT mean they like children. Joke or not this is inappropriate. Some adults just are not able to grow taller then others, so it feels like you are infantilizing a whole group of adult short people just because of their height. Not only that, but for survivors this can make them second guess their appropriate and safe relationships they have even more, which for some CSA Survivors it is already so hard to trust to begin with, this then can make them further associate even more things and people with their trauma that never needed to be and can cause further ptsd reactions.

A minor dating a minor one month/year younger/year older than them ≠ p*dophilia

This undermines the severity of what p*dophilia is. P*dophilia is an adult person who sexually fantasizes about, exhibits inappropriate and sexual behavior towards, has urges towards, and/or arousal towards minors. They are a sex offender/m*lestor as well if they act on those urges on a child. Thus becoming CSA.

This part is ONLY talking about minor + minor relationship: As cited from DSM-5 (wiki that has excerpt) “A person must be at least 16 years and at least 5 years older than the prepubescent child, for the attraction to be diagnosed as p*dophilia.” A 15 year old dating a 16 year old is not p*dophilia. If a 15 year old did inappropriate and non-consensual things to another minor the same age as, slightly younger than themself, or older than themself, that 15 year old would be more towards being called a juvenile/adolescent sex offender. Don’t use these terms willy nilly either, they are severe words too. Do not use them lightly for fun internet jargon.

In regards to fandom spaces. Just because someone on the internet labels themselves as something specific, does not mean this person can’t be a p*dophile based off of whatever the label is. You must always be careful with whom you interact with. They very well could be under the guise of feigning innocence and pointing fingers away from themself. Some may pretend to be one or the other and self-proclaim themself as the “good” adult. And HEAVILY emphasize this all the time. Which for me often raises a warning flag. Especially if they are in heavy contact with minors on a daily basis. Be always careful with anyone you interact with online no matter what they label themself as. You do not know who is behind the screen, so exercise extreme caution with the information you give to anyone, even if an account labels themselves as the same age as you. It could be someone pretending to be the same. Having a father who is a p*dophile, I can say, these gross people want to blend in. They’re going to feign innocence. They want to be in your line of trust. They may say things like “you don’t have to worry about me. I’m not that group of people” or “don’t trust them, trust me.” Be aware of the signs of gr**ming. This is a first tell tale sign that someone could be harmful. Some examples of warnings signs an be found here.

LGBTQIA+ ≠ p*dophilia

While there may be people who happen to be LGBTQIA+ that are a p*do, that does NOT mean everyone who is LGBTQIA+ is one. The community makes it explicitly clear that MAPS/p*dophiles are NEVER welcome in the community. It is harmful to associate them with the community too.

P*dophiles can be anywhere. In my my own experience, mine was my own father. They are in the most obvious spot and invisible to other’s eyes. They will if not often, be someone who has gained yours and other’s trust and preys heavily off of it. Such as a family member, a teacher, a doctor, a family friend, etc… They hide under this guise because what is the first thing anyone says? “Oh it couldn’t possibly be them. I know them. They’re good.”

I get wanting to know all the facts before putting a label such as p*dophile on someone. I get that some people do fake saying they were abused. I get it. When there’s a huge amount of evidence of someone being nefarious with children though, you can’t keep hiding from that truth and you need to stop supporting that person. Continuing to support those perpetrators just tells other scummy P*dos that as long as they’re well-liked enough, they too can get away with it. This only harms more children then helps.

Please put “T/W”s if you mention p*dophilia. CSA Survivors have different triggers and seeing the topic brought up willy nilly in spaces without it can be very harmful and may cause ptsd. Please be respectful to us all. Do not make a joke out of all of our suffering.

The VIP lounge was silent aside from the quiet clicking of Azul’s pen. You were sitting in one of the sofas, waiting for him to finish his work for the day. You’d visit mostro from time to time after school, Azul doesn’t really mind your presence so you often welcomed yourself inside his lounge. Hearing the sound of pen againsts the table you looked towards the male. It seems like he’s finally finished with whatever documents he was writing.

‘Oh his tie looks a little loose’ you smiled at the thought, that was when a smal idea hits you “Hey, Azul.” The later turned his attention towards you “does something seem to be a problem, (Y/n)?” You smiled and approached him, doing few small gestures to fix his bow tie. “It looked a little loose.” A small laugh left your lips. Azul let out a nervous cough “Thank you I suppose.” Your actions had caught him off guard. Furthermore the close gap between the two of you did not help.

“You know, that uniform always looks good on you.” You giggled and placed your hands on each of his shoulders, leaning in you whispered “But I think it’s even better if we replace that uniform, ...with me” you bit your bottom lip, trying to contain yourself from letting out a satisfied laugh. Azul has known you long enough to get used to your flirty nature. He might’ve always been able to one up your pick up lines, but you know how physical contact affects him. Poor man is probably having an inner mental breakdown right now, or so you thought.

You were caught by surprise when he placed a hand on your back, pressing your bodies closer. “And I think yours would look better on my floor, don’t you agree.” He chuckled, his usual mischievous tone present. You were stoned and he was more than satisfied at your reaction. “Page 36 of 1001 pick up lines, I saw you carrying that book the other day.” He finally pulled away. Your inner voice was telling you to back down but your pride says otherwise. There’s no way you’d let him win you over. Although your steps were shaky, you managed to approach him once more. Your next moves were blurry. Somehow you were now pushed up against the wall, arms around his neck and lips meeting for the umpteenth time. His glasses, long forgotten so as the various clothing that littered the floor. His next words were barely above a whisper but it served as a reminder for you,

Jamil sighed as he looked at the amount of empty pages in your book. You’d asked him to help you with your homework earlier today. Thus you are now sitting next to him in Scarabia’s lounge. However he wasn’t expecting your homework to be completely empty.

“(Y/n)..” had he expected too much from you? You laughed nervously in response “You know I usually do my tasks, it’s just that this time, it completely slipped my mind....” you trailed off, normally you would’ve tried to get it done by yourself but the deadline was less than 12 hours away. You needed to get this done and he just happened to be available.

Jamil sighed once again, he looked defeated. Seeing him made you feel a little more than guilty. You blurted out the first thing that came into your mind. “Hey, don’t look so upset. I might not do my homework but I can do you.” You smiled, eyes fluttering upon saying the words. It was your attempt at cheering him up.

“What?”

“What.”

He had gotten used to your flirty nature, you thought a pick up line could cheer him up. Apparently it seems like he wasn’t in the mood for that. “Jamil? I’m kh-“ your words were cut short. Suddenly, you were lying against the red carpet, Jamil’s hand on either side of your head pining you down. “Wanna try and say that again?” He asked, lips curving up into a smirk.

“Yeah... Let’s do homework.” A nervous laugh left your lips. “Why are you so eager to do your homework now that you’re supposed to be doing something else?” He didn’t buy your answer, if you wanted to tease him then you should be prepared to deal with the consequences. “S-something else?” You quivered under his gaze. His hand brushed your hair back, The proximity between the two of you were almost non-existent at that point. “you’re lucky we’re in the lounge” his whispered, though you heard him clear.

He sighed letting you go. Closing the few books on the table, he stacked them up neatly before standing up carrying them with him. “W-where are you going?” You were still struck by the incident just minutes before. “To my room,” He answered your question like it was obvious “you still need help with these don’t you?” He referred to the books in his hand though the small smirk on his lips tells you otherwise. “Huh? Oh yeah.” You quickly gathered yourself before following him. Whether there was any actual homework done that night, we’ll have to see.

Malleus was always amazed by your rather... straight forward nature. You always seem to have no problem throwing him jokes and brushing them aside right after. He often sees humans jest around with each other, he thought it was the human’s way of communication. I see you use them often I thought I’d learn about them as well.” He added.

“D-do you even know what that means?” You can’t believe all this time he had been mistaking your dirty pick up lines as some form of human communication. Well- it is, but he really shouldn’t be going around saying things like that. “I suppose it does have a rather erogenous meaning but I was also told they were not to be taken literally?” He was now deep in thought. It was more than distressing to see him take these things so seriously.

“Well, I can’t say they’re completely untrue...” You trailed off, still averting his gaze. “how so?” He was now curious at your statement. You spent a good 5 minutes explaining to him about pick up lines, all the while still trying to hide your embarrassment. It’s quite ironic, considering how much you use it on him.

“.........” he seems to be deep in thought for the umpteenth time that night. You could only sit there in shame as flashbacks of every single flirty encounter your had with him ran through your mind. “So, all this time you actually meant your words?” He broke the silence. “No.., yes” you let out an awkward cough. Hoping the ground could just swallow you whole.

“I apologize” he placed a hand on yours “I’m not very good at reading people’s hearts. Perhaps, tell me if you’d like something next time.” A soft smile gracing his features though it didn’t last long and was soon replaced by a mischievous smirk

Sephiroth’s true eye color (among other things)

Ever since I got into FF7 stuff I’ve wondered about Sephiroth’s rather inconsistent eye color over the media he’s appeared in (which is a lot), and I think I finally have an answer for it, as well as answers for other slightly unexplained phenomena. Warning you now, this will be fairly long and full of spoilers for multiple games in the series, yet hopefully informative.

Sephiroth is best known for his green, cat-pupiled eyes, among other things, and that’s generally the accepted eye color for him in fan works and such. But his eyes are actually light blue, and not just mainly in spinoffs. There will be a TL;DR in about the middle of the post for one interesting point, and another at the end for the whole post in general.

Disclaimer: This isn't intended to be a "this is the right way to portray Sephiroth's eye color" gatekeeping thing, this is just an analysis of an element of character design that went way too deep and is breaking Tumblr as we speak hfsdgyfudgfsd

Evidence, theories and such under cut-- all 63 images (yes, you heard me, be warned) either come from various wikis as official art/screenshots/etc. or are my own screenshots:

In Final Fantasy 7, where this mess all started, his iconic official art has green eyes:

But in all other art, models, etc. for the game, even the Ultimania scan, his eyes are light blue (or some sort of blue in general):

Of course, you could argue that Sephiroth’s official art also has blue eyes if you stare at it hard enough, but at first glance it’s more green than blue, and with the amount of green-eyed art I’ve seen, I’m sure many people have just accepted that his eyes are green and nothing more.

Several other games in the main series also portray Sephiroth’s eyes as light blue, sometimes borderline colorless depending on the lighting:

I particularly curse Advent Children for it’s washed-out aesthetic because in the darker scenes it completely masks Sephiroth’s real eye color. Thank the gods for HD screenshots.

However, there is a very interesting phenomenon that only seems to happen in Last Order, the 25-minute animated retelling of the Nibelheim Incident and Zack and Cloud’s escape 5 years after. No one seems to have noticed this yet, to my knowledge, so I’ll go through this as clearly as I can.

When Zack confronts Sephiroth in the reactor, the latter’s eyes are light blue:

It isn’t very obvious due to the mako glow tint and his face being in shadow, but I’d think green eyes would look different here, so they are light blue. They stay light blue for a while after this, until Zack begins to fight him and parries him onto the ceiling (anime physics...), resulting in this peculiar scene:

Light blue into green. Literally, you can see it happening in the actual video. This happens a second time when Sephiroth has Cloud skewed on Masamune, just more subtly:

Again, light blue into green(er). Definitely something funky going on here. It goes back to light blue when Cloud tosses him away, though:

And speaking of Cloud... he, too, shows very obvious eye color change directly after this scene, as seen below:

In the video they are visibly, animatedly glowing, it’s not just me discerning between two different flat shades of color. Keep in mind this is before he gets mako poisoned and Jenova-celled and whatnot, so this isn’t due to SOLDIER enhancements. What gives?

Here’s my take: it’s the Lifestream. People are made of Lifestream like everything else in in the FF7 universe, and it’s common knowledge that Lifestream/mako can do some pretty weird shenanigans. SOLDIERs are literally pumped full of the stuff and have seemingly superhuman abilities, and that’s just the lower-ranking ones. But the series has also placed a lot of emphasis on willpower, which Cloud post-experimentation struggles with due to the J-cells and stuff. A lot of people with particularly bright or “glowing” eyes have expressed an incredible amount of willpower, some of which include Cloud, Sephiroth (unsurprising), and Aerith:

Aerith’s eyes have always been incredibly bright in the series, regardless of which game you reference. Remake especially makes this obvious, as it seems like every close-up shot of her makes her eyes the centerpiece regardless of lighting, setting, etc.:

Like, seriously, they almost seem to glow they’re so bright. But here’s the kicker: Aerith is a Cetra, and the Cetra, obviously, communicate with the Planet... or, in other words, have an incredibly strong willpower that influences things. It’s been stated before by various people and media that Sephiroth and Aerith are two sides of the same coin, but not quite like this, I think. Cloud shows a similar phenomenon in his close-up shots as well, though the artificial SOLDIER glow is most likely contributing to most of it:

Compare these to younger Cloud in the Nibelheim flashback, when he was more innocent and had no need for incredible willpower, artificial or not:

Going back to Cloud in Last Order, the point we can make about him in particular is that when he was stabbed, literally at death’s door, he drew on his inner Lifestream for the strength to toss Sephiroth away. People have wondered for years about how this moment was even possible besides Protagonist Syndrome, and this may be the answer.

If this is the case, then this could apply to anyone: Aerith, Sephiroth, Zack, hell even Tifa seems to have slightly glowing eyes in the Remake sometimes-- and sure, it may be just the game engine making sure we can actually see their eyes in key cutscenes... but it ties into canon lore and actually makes sense, so I’m sticking with that. It’s also not a coincidence that Aerith specifically has green eyes, too, since the Lifestream in general is green-colored and whatnot.

Midpoint TL;DR: people with lots of inner willpower can call on their own Lifestream to give them strength, resulting in “glowing” or even color-changing eyes depending on how much Lifestream/mako they have in them. SOLDIERs, for example, would fall in the latter category... the most extreme being Sephiroth.

Now that's we're back at Sephiroth, another interesting point is that his eye color in Remake is consistently light blue, or some blue variation depending on the lighting, with green centers, as seen below:

Cloud obviously shares the same eye color pattern by this point because it's implied that he has the same if not slightly more mako in him than Sephiroth, which very conveniently also equates to him having the same if not slightly more willpower than Sephiroth.

An honorable mention goes to the Remnants, since they, too, follow the light blue with green centers pattern, appearing to fluctuate between the two colors at certain times:

With all of that said and done, I’ll wrap this up by going through Sephiroth’s appearances in side games and other franchises as quickly as I can:

1) The Dissidia series (Dissidia, 012/Duodecim, NT, Opera Omnia) almost always portrays Sephiroth with light blue eyes in art, renders, and models, occasionally with a hint of green in them:

A very interesting exception is NT Sephiroth's Safer Sephiroth costume, which has completely white eyes in all three of its alts. Yes, it's basically just a cosmetic costume, but it's still worthy to note for comprehensive purposes:

2) World of Final Fantasy’s Sephiroth has light blue eyes:

3) Record Keeper Sephiroth’s sprites are very obviously based on the original FF7 official art where he has green eyes (yes, I checked the colors by hand, they're all in the greener sections of the color wheel):

4) The Kingdom Hearts series is particularly unique because it features a blue-eyed Sephiroth but with an explicit reason for it. Kingdom Hearts 1 simply says that Sephiroth is part of Cloud’s past, but Kingdom Hearts 2 literally has Cloud saying “I'll get him. This time we settle it. Me, and the one who embodies all the darkness in me.”, and then explicitly clarifying that it’s Sephiroth he’s talking about. Sephiroth even shares Cloud’s facial shape, which is particularly obvious in KH2 renders:

All other Sephiroth appearances in the KH series also feature him with blue eyes, except for any usage of material from other media.

5) Itadaki Street games feature Sephiroth with green eyes:

6) Puzzles and Dragons features a rare teal-eyed Sephiroth:

And finally 7) All other Sephiroth appearances in spinoffs and other media feature him with light blue, blue, or rare teal eyes, except for sprites, which are (most likely) reused from Record Keeper:

And that’s FINALLY a wrap. All my evidence for Sephiroth’s actual eye color in one place, and even a theory on why it can potentially fluctuate between that and the iconic green.

Actual TL;DR: Sephiroth’s eyes are actually light blue in 90% of his appearances, and the remaining 10% either comes from temporary green-ness or partial green-ness thanks to mako/Lifestream stuff, or spinoffs.

There is one small point I’d like to make at the end of this, and that is the remaining mystery of why Sephiroth’s pupils are even slitted and cat-like in the first place. That... is far more ambiguous in terms of evidence than the eye color. Some series, particularly the Kingdom Hearts series, have them as regular round pupils, while others sometimes if not most of the time give him the cat-like ones. I may make another in-depth analysis post trying to figure it all out, but for now I’ll say that it may just simply be a result of the Jenova cells he has or something along those lines.

What’s your kh origin story? When did you get into the series? And when was the moment you sold your soul to the mouse knowing you’d be with this series forever (with no hope of escaping even if you tried)?

I’m sorry it took me so long to get to this, anon! I wanted to reply in time for the anniversary, but I was trying to get two stories out and things sort of fell off my radar. Anyway!

My kh origin story is weird, and not very cool, to say the least. I only got into the series last summer, at age 24 no less! I was a Nintendo kid growing up (my parents thought an Xbox or PlayStation would be too violent lol) and none of my friends besides my brother were gamers, so I didn’t even know kh existed for most of my life. Just one random day in June the YouTube algorithm gave me a kh video. I wish I could even remember what it was! So I started down the rabbit hole, watching plot summaries, and then, full cutscene movies. And the story just fascinated me.

So, in July, I literally sprang for a recertified ps4, my first console ever outside my DS from 2007, and played the games for the first time. For me, it really was the opening movie to kh1 that got me. The atmosphere of it: Sora falling through the sky, sinking through the water, the way the heart station grows underneath him, blooming with light and the doves flying around him? I was just captivated. The first two worlds were just a bit sticky, but by the time I got to Agrabah I was having the time of my life. I finished kh1 in a week because I just couldn’t put it down. And once I got to neverland, and I was flying around London, I knew I was gone. Same with the kh2 opening movie. The aesthetic of kh (it’s those damn doves, man) just pierces my soul dude. All the stuff about hearts, friendship, hearts never letting go, all that, I absolutely love it, unironically and unreservedly. 

I’ve literally bought an official, life sized kingdom key Keyblade, the purse from the hotel in Tokyo that’s on sale now, the kh3 deluxe edition, and I’m still fiending for more. When I played 0.2, and it played the original simple and clean during the credits, I actually cried. I think about kingdom hearts literally every day, constantly. I’m not a gamer by any means, I usually play kh on beginner lol, but I always have the time of my life playing them. They’ve added so much to my life. And while I was regretful I didn’t have the raw experience of going through the games without knowing most of The Plot, there’s just no other way I ever would have taken the leap and spent $250 on a ps4 if I didn’t have that knowledge prior. So that’s why the re:mind secret ending is so dear to my heart. It’s like the kh2 secret ending for older fans. I’ll always look back on it with nostalgia because that’s when all the mysteries were there for me. But still, of all times, this is still a pretty damn good time to get in to kingdom hearts. I like to think I found it exactly when I was supposed to. Also, it was just in time to fall in love with series before sora got into smash, and even i teared up when I appeared, and I didn’t even know to wait for him for six years. Being apart of it for that experience was priceless, and I’m so glad I get to be apart of the 20th celebration and all the wonderful stuff to come.

That’s something I’m actually struggling with right now. A lot of members of the community really don’t like how much Square Enix reveals in their trailers, so I’m not sure if I want to watch some or all of them before the next game(s) hopefully starting releasing soon. I really really want to have that raw fresh game experience that I haven’t had with the series as of yet. But I also really like the podcasts and streaming, the trailer theorizing, and I don’t wanna miss out on that part of the community and the fan experience either. I’m curious what other people think about this. So I’ll probably watch some trailers in the beginning, but once the final trailers start rolling out, I’ll probably not watch.

okay so the year is 2010

BbS came out and the fanbase is heartbroken (including myself) over what happened to Terra, Aqua and Ven. At this point in the franchise Mickey although shady seems like a decent dude, so I didn't have any strong opinions towards him, only that he was this mysterious and seemingly OP king. Let's recap though.

In KH1 he wasn't very communicative with Donald and Goofy, but when he finally showed up at the very end it was to close Kingdom Hearts and ngl it was a pretty hype moment. So far so good.

In Re:Chain of Memories he again does not approach Donald and Goofy -and Sora- even though they were still looking for him, but it was for a very good cause as he stayed with Riku to help him fight Ansem Seeker of Darkness. Here I actually thought well of him.

In KH2 he's still being beyond secretive but he finally joins the gang to explain some things and fight alongside everyone to defeat Xemnas. Honestly he's got no bad record so far; he may be a douche sometimes since he barely explains himself but I could understand because of the circumstances.

So BbS happens. We get insight on how he was involved with TAV and I actually felt kinda bad for Mickey since he hadn't been able to do much to help them, and for all he knew in the worst case scenario they all died.

But then in 2011 Re:Coded came out, and with it its secret movie.

In the secret movie Mickey and Yen Sid have the following exchange:

M: Yen Sid, I think we're finally close to figuring out where Ven's heart is.

Y: Is that so? Then that leaves only Terra.

Hold the fuck up. Only Terra? As in, they already knew where Aqua was?

Why hadn't they gone after her then?????

This secret movie left a bitter taste in my mouth. I started questioning everything. For how long had they known? Why hadn't they done anything? What the fuck were they waiting for?

Sadly in 2012 with DDD's release I didn't get answers to any of these questions, and when Mickey told Xehanort that he hoped TAV sacrificing themselves hadn't been in vain it just got me more angry.

How dare you talk about them as if they were dead. How dare you utter Aqua's name when you know damn well where she is and you know damn well that it's almost fucking impossible to get out of that place without help. YOU could help her Michael. But no, you're just talking about her like she was just a bad memory you wanted to forget.

I was pissed.

And I stayed pissed for the next 5 years, with no main games coming out and only my memories of the past games to look back on Mickey's behavior. Since when had he known that Aqua was in the Realm of Darkness? Since KH1 when he helped Sora close the door to Kingdom Hearts? Since Re:Chain of Memories when he was helping Riku overcome his own darkness? Since KH2 when he was infiltrating the Organization? Since way before KH1? Just how long had he been walking around knowing of this and deciding to do nothing about it?

But not only was I angry at Mickey. I was desperate. How long would I be waiting until Aqua was saved? Would she even be saved at all? Information about her was scarce, and BbS volume 2 seemed nothing but a distant dream, but with DDD being the prelude to the final battle against Xehanort I was hopeful the next main game would finally have her involved again.

So you can imagine how excited I was when we got the first trailer for KH 2.8 that included A Fragmentary Passage.

That image of the back of her head gave me hope. Hope that she was still okay, still fighting, and that she would be saved soon.

And on January 2017 we finally found what had happened to her before she made it to that fateful beach.

And boy I wasn't happy.

The reason Mickey knew Aqua was in the Realm of Darkness was because he met her there, right before he helped close Kingdom Hearts. And of course I don't blame him for getting separated from Aqua, it was the demon tower's fault and I understand he couldn't do much being in a hurry and all to get to the door.

But shouldn't he have tried to find her right after???

I get that there's only so much Nomura can tie back to plot-wise as he writes along, but the matter of fact at this point is that:

Mickey stayed with Riku after closing Kingdom Hearts and didn't say a word to him about Aqua.

We don't know whether Mickey tried to search for her or not, but it sure as hell didn't stop him from leaving the Realm of Darkness when he had the chance.

So after escaping the Realm of Darkness Mickey eventually went to Yen Sid and told him he found Aqua, and Yen Sid told him to not try anything yet as they were unprepared to rescue her.

And OF COURSE, this is the one time Mickey decides to listen to him. Not unlike ALL the other times he went around and did whatever the fuck he wanted. Like when he ran away with the star shard in BbS despite Yen Sid telling him not to get involved, or when he went to confront fucking Xehanort and only got saved because of Ven, or when he abandoned Disney Castle without warning to do things by himself and just left a shitty note with a half-assed explanation, or when he jumped after Xemnas into the dark corridor and left behind everyone in Radiant Garden.

Nah, it's this ONE time in particular that Mickey decides to be a goody-two-shoes and not do anything reckless for a change.

Wasn't Aqua his friend? Didn't he form a D-link with her because they got close? Hadn't he done all the dangerous things he did in the past because he wanted to look after those he cared for and loved?

And not only did he decide to do nothing, but he didn't say a THING about her to anyone. So what if Sora and/or Riku planned a reckless rescue? Mickey had already done worse than that! And BESIDES, Sora and Riku did manage to get out of the Realm of Darkness once so they could have very well done it again a second time.

BUT HEY at least 0.2 ended with Mickey and Riku deciding to finally go get Aqua, so there's hope. That is until 2019, another 2 years later, that KH3 comes out. Mickey and Riku finally go to the Realm of Darkness to look for her, but when they get to the beach and find she's not there what does Mickey decide to do?

HE DECIDES TO LEAVE AGAIN.

It's been 10+ years already what's a little more time am I right fellas???

Reminder that Mickey supposedly considers Aqua a friend btw.

Michael you were there in the Realm of Darkness, you know how dangerous it is, you saw how at the verge of giving up Aqua was, and you decide to keep her waiting even more? What the hell is wrong with you?!

It's like he doesn't even care about her at all. It's so unsettling how carefree he is about it.

And you know what? Had Mickey decided to go save Aqua sooner they might have actually gotten to her before her confrontation with Ansem Seeker of Darkness, and they would have spared her plenty of suffering.

But what do I know.

Anyway, Aqua gets saved (by Sora btw, not Mickey), and in the process she calls Mickey out on his bullshit and he agrees he messed up. He even apologized. That did make me feel better, it was cathartic, and although I was still sore about everything he did now that TAV was back together safe and sound I was considering cutting Mickey some slack. I'll give him credit, I did get a little impressed with what he did in Re:Mind. Credit where credit is due.

But then Melody of Memory happened.

The moment this asshole found out that Riku went by himself to search for Sora to this strange world of unreality what is the first thing he does?

He bolts to the fucking door ready to go after Riku. And had it not been for Donald and Goofy tackling him to the ground he could have very well ran off.

Why wasn't he this worried over Aqua? When he found her she had already spent 10 years in the Realm of Darkness, a very VERY dangerous place. And yet when he made it out he wasn't worried at all and let her stay 2-3 years more in there?? Riku had left like a fucking hour ago and it was enough to have Mickey panicking COME ON. Biased much?

So there you have it. No matter what Mickey does in the future of the franchise I don't think I'll ever have the heart to forgive him. I was willing to do so, but of course he made me change my mind rather quickly.

I'm glad newcomers to the series share these feelings of not being fond of Mickey, but I don't think they'll go through the same experience that the people that followed the games did. Most of us liked Mickey at the beginning, but through the years we realized with horror that we had been deceived, and we were left to wallow in our rage while we hopelessly waited for someone, anyone, to save Aqua.
