Feeling a lot of trans Leo feelings rn and I would like to reiterate how possible it is for him to not only be trans but also have no idea at all about it.

Okay so, he’s bigger than Donnie, particularly carapace wise, which tends to be the case when the slider is female and the softshell is male.

Second, his coloring. He retains the same coloring his whole life, even as a much older adult, so there’s another tick in the trans checklist, especially being that said coloring is noticeably bright.

His demeanor is also pretty at odds from most male red eared sliders - one example of this being when Bullhop was staying with them and Leo is noticeably less angered by him being both in their territory and in general than the others are - male red eared sliders would be way more combative here.

Like alone none of these are 100% definitive indicators but all together it makes perfect sense to me personally.

Now, how would it work for Leo to not know?

Okay, bear with me, but I like to think it’s because of Splinter’s (or rather, Lou Jitsu’s) genetics! As in, of course Leo wouldn’t assume otherwise, after all, his human self is very masc, including his lower voice and overall body type, so he and his family would have no reason to assume that he’s actually trans! But I personally like to think that it is because of Lou Jitsu’s DNA that Leo’s humanoid half turned out so masc in comparison to his more female aligning turtle half.

So yeah. Female red eared slider mutated with the DNA of a human man equals a turtle teen with no idea he’s trans (or potentially intersex.)

I cannot help but see rise leo as afab- or at least intersex due to mutation #it makes me happy #surprise trans Leo is so good #side note but putting Lou Jitsu’s adult human male dna into the turtles when they were infants is also why I think they were so wonky- #-immediately after they mutated #their proportions were much more align with an older human’s than a baby’s and it’s only later that they grew into more toddler-esque bodies #only to revert back to similar proportions upon reaching teenage years #it’s actually fun to think about because imagine being splinter in this scenario #he’s already dealing with his own transformations how the heck should he know what is and isn’t out of the ordinary

Funni lore bits for those who are interested;

Tabitha:

Torkoal - His first Pokémon, caught as a child. Suspecting to have been very old even then, it’s nonetheless going strong. Aloof and uncaring, most people are surprised to hear it’s one of Tabithas Pokémon. It doesn’t battle. 

Armaldo - Obtained in his Devon days when working on the Hoenn fossil revival project. One of the very first successes, Tabitha decided to take care of the then Anorith themselves. It often helps him keep order among the grunts. 

Skarmory - Caught after beginning to work for team Magma, wanting a Pokémon that could fly. It often carries supplies and never tires. Much like Armaldo, it often helps keep order among the grunts. 

Donphan - Caught during his work for team Magma. Found ruining crops, he defeated it and took it with him. The shiny patches show up as rust, and the health problems from that were found causing it to act out. Making sure it’s healthy, it’s now their strongest battler, even it still acts moody towards others. 

Shelly:

Tentacruel - Her first Pokémon, caught as a Tentacool as a child. Due to it’s extending tentacles, it’s an invaluable team member for rescue missions. It helps often with training the grunts in battle. 

Kingdra - Caught as a Horsea as a child. Despite being fairly standoffish towards others, it’s very close to her. She often has it explore new terrain for her. 

Milotic - Caught in her Devon days in her free time. The Pokémons living space had been disturbed by new developments, leaving it wandering. She took it in afterwards. 

Gyarados - Caught in her early Aqua days. Found rampaging after evolving, she defeated it and took it with her to prevent future issues. Due to Milotics ability to calm raging spirits with it’s beauty, they became battle partners. 

Matt:

Marill - His first Pokémon, caught for him by his older sibling. It’s very playful and likes to battle, even though it never seemed to want to evolve. 

Pelipper - Caught shortly after Marill as a Wingull. Nowadays, due to it’s ability to carry things safely in its beak, its often used when relocating smaller fish Pokémon to safer waters.

Crawdaunt - Caught as a Corphish just before joining team Aqua. Due to it’s tough pincers, it’s Matts main fighter on the team. Overall however, it’s a remarkably friendly Pokémon for it’s kind, mainly due to good training from Matt back from before it evolved.

Wailord - Caught during the team Aqua days. The grunts found it stranded on the beach, and couldn’t push it back to the ocean. Matt eventually figured the best way to relocate it would be to catch it and then release it in deeper waters. It chose to stay with him however, and is now a celebrity amongst the grunts who love to fetch a ride on it.

Courtney:

Whismur - Caught in her teens, and her first Pokémon. She thought it was cute and took it along. It doesn’t battle, though she uses it’s ear shattering abilities sometimes to not have to deal with people she doesn’t like. 

Skitty - Originally the pet her parents had at home. She took it with her once she moved out for college. It doesn’t battle, but it’s quite good at stealing whatever she asks for. 

Claydoll - Caught as a Baltoy during college. She wanted a Pokémon that could protect her during expeditions into cave systems. Due to it’s psychic abilities, it helps her out in the lab a lot. 

Ninetales - Caught as a Vulpix during college. She saw it on a field trip, thought it was cute and caught it, despite not having much room left at home. After it evolved, it became a very capable battler.

Gosh aren’t they gorgeous tho ♥ Especially the latest and largest, though I have to give all the credit to the paper on that one haha, it’s stunning IRL, I could almost stare at the gold lattice forever rather than read, but I’m so happy with how it turned out between the pages as well!

My Drinking Game as another test run, I got the spacing how I wanted it! Yay! It’s so much handsomer and less cramped! Also I gotta say, if it wasn’t such a large usage of paper, this would be my ideal way of checking for typos - I found a couple after setting it down to ink lol, they’ve been fixed now at least ♪ Paired here with the emerge, transformed three-parter, one of my all-time-favourites <3 I reread it the night I finished it and cried again, a little bit of tender mercy always wrecks me hhhh ♥ There are so many beautiful evocative lines! I’m so happy to hold it ♪ And as you can see above, that was the one that got the cute little ghost dust jacket :D

Another test run of what I’m calling volume 1 of my Vargas Drabbles lol, so not including Have you lost your mind? since that one’s currently unfinished. I do fully intend to print it once it’s done tho :3c Hopefully that one will cause me fewer problems! I hate measuring, so I may have flubbed two covers before finally getting this one into good enough shape XP And my red yarn is still in storage so >.> Did I go purchase another ball of red yarn? I’ll never tell. You can’t tell me it doesn’t look great as a bookmark tho <3

And my current happiest! Ah!! It turned out fantastic on all counts! The cover paper obviously, as I couldn’t Not lead with that, but also the size of the spine and the way the pages settled against each other while glueing - I used a different type of paper for this one and I think I’m completely converted over, it feels amazing to work with. Whatever I was using before had to have been like 15lbs lol, I’m literally just using normal 20lb printer paper but it feels and looks and behaves so much nicer <3 The size of Helix also allowed for a slightly larger bookmark, which was perfect because we had this soft gold ribbon that was all of a couple millimeters wider than the other ribbons/yarn I’d been using, and it looks so so so pretty with the gold detailing!! I’ve put it between Ch. 1 and 2 and getting to see the actual physical size differences of the chapters is so fun ♥

#Hhhhhh crafting is so funnnnn <3 <3 <3 #Fully intending to make more - I have the next set picked out and the accompanying dust jacket to go with it haha #I've decided to stick to dust jackets for the plain non-textured covers for the most part #It does hide my detailing on the covers but it also hides if I haven't done anything to the fronts as well! Haha ♪ #I added a Captain/ZEX caption to Drinking Game like I did with ZEX/DAX but the latter is still the prettiest by far <3 #Their names were made to go together you could say hehe ♪♫ #You can kinda see I tried my hand at making a custom cover for the Vargas drabbles as well - it kiiiinda turned out? Lol #As stated I hate measuring and the lines turned out wonky :P But it's done and I've reread it for typos lol #I was worried I'd find rereading my own work cringy since most of those are older than either of my SCII fics but no it was nice actually :) #I did actually go supply shopping yet again for these since I'm having so much fun with it hehe <3 <3 #The yarn and the cover paper I used for Helix were both good finds :) I got a whole booklet of space-themed cardstock! :D #That one was one of the lesser space ones hehe ♪ I had a couple other considerations - like a yellow-on-white constellation one ♫ #But I think I'm the happiest with this one! It's beautiful and I feel like it reflects the Idle Rich themes a little bit hehe <3 #Hhhhhhh it's so nice to read them like I would a book ♥ I enjoy reading them on my iPod but there's something about The Experience hehe #Being able to hold it and place a physical bookmark and not having the glare of a screen or if the scroll goes funny lol #Just exactly what it is!
