💄 TODAY'S PROBLEMATIC SHIP 🐞
"You goddamned brat..."
AbbaGio is a ship that I adore endlessly, and for good reason. It has the perfect concoction of some of my favourite tropes for a good, problematic ship. Such tropes include:
Age Gap (15 x 20)
Power Imbalance
Threats and Intimidation galore
From the moment they're on screen together, there's instant tension. Immediately, Abbacchio isn't taking kindly to a new addition to their little group, and sets about hazing and harassing said new addition... to no avail. This sets off a series of increasingly homoerotic moments of Abbacchio trying to physically intimidate Giorno (and or threaten him with words) to put him in his place.
Giorno, however, does not cave in so easily and continues to outdo Abbacchio and not be deterred by his threats. The seething hate Abbacchio has for Giorno is such a draw, the way he's so angrily obsessed with keeping Giorno a peg below him.
It makes you wonder why this 20 year old mafioso is so obsessed with teaching a 15 year old boy these kinds of lessons, or why his first thought upon seeing Giorno... was to haze him with piss drinking. Let me remind you, that trick Giorno pulled didn't absorb all of Abbacchio's 'tea'. Some of that still got swallowed, keep in mind.
There's a lot of rivals (?) to lovers potential, a lot of unresolved tension and biting sexual tension. Perhaps in future, Don Giono ends up trying to bond with his dear underling Abbacchio... or up and coming Gang-Star Giorno is merely trying to get closer to Abbacchio and ease the tension, but little does he know, he's making it far worse...
The juxtaposition between Giorno's cool, calm and cunning persona and Abbacchio's aggressive, intimidating and yet capable persona... it's too good not to think about.

i am so tired of people equating proshippers with people who think pedophilia and incest is okay. we don't, actually.
i know this may come as a shock to some people, but we actually can differentiate from fiction and reality, and just because we think something is fun in fiction doesn't mean we think it's fun in reality.
fuck, i constantly wrote Sterek as the clingiest fuckers alive and i hate that personally, i cannot fucking sleep if someone is clinging to me, but i LOVE the thought of Sterek not being able to sleep unless they're practically glued together.
so why should i think incest is okay because i ship Wincest? why should i think pedophilia is okay because i enjoy reading some fucked up shit from time to time?

Enemies to lovers had not quite been able to make its intended meaning. What we have is at best haters/rivals to lovers (they are on the same side they just hate how the other is carrying on) so they bicker, with love. We mistake rivals for enemies, understandably bc rivalry is more palatable and arguably less problematic. The dynamic of 'they don't actually hate each other' gives me a high like no other. But enemies, people on OPPOSITE sides committing CRIMES against each other in an obsessive ritual, too dependent on their morals to ever consider another path, making their marks on each other in mutual destruction wounds then get struck with an epiphany mid-fight mid-stab face to face that this person is their worse half, their despicable unseen part, the pathway direct express to hell, but LIBERATION the likes which no other could ever enlighten them to, someone so fucked up but so fundamentally ALIKE, unhinged kindred spirits with the same coins same morals different sides ...
I FUCK with that
The suspense of not knowing whether feelings are reciprocated bc the stakes are LIFE ENDING and everything must fall to support this love make me FERAL over enemies-lovers. Rivalry has stakes too but it's more getting over initial distaste of someone who you've viewed as your competition aka forfeiting your pride; enemies make you reroute your entire life compass to be with the one you love bc that changes EVERYTHING yes crimes were committed and confessions were traded on deathbeds there are no villains or heroes in this story. Rivals make couples strive to be better by the other and for themselves, enemies make each other WORSE and I'm here for it
Who are enemies to lovers: eve/villainelle (MI6 agent hunting down an international killer); laurent/damen (two heirs of warring kingdoms); vegas/pete (two sides of a warring family in a torture chamber)
What ISN'T enemies to lovers: sereshaw/hangster (classic men on men rivalry they're just extra toxic); cherik (same mutant side they've been trying to divorce for so long that its everyone's problem now but the enemies are humans)

🏹 TODAY'S PROBLEMATIC SHIP 💲
"I'm just followin' you, big bro."
Ah KeiOku, a ship I know well. You can never go wrong with brother/brother, I always say, especially when it has such a spicy undertone. I say undertone... but the abusive, codependent energy that these two give off is unrivaled.
Okuyasu — a young man who knows damned well his intelligence isn't getting him through life — relies so heavily on his brother that due to story events separating them, he's left to cope with his resulting feelings. It goes to show how heavily the two rely on each other, but more so Okuyasu upon his big brother, who isn't shy about bossing him around and making choices for him.
In a way, it feels like that's what Okuyasu wants. Never to have to think and just to trust the judgement of his knowledgeable, always correct big bro.
In all fairness, the two are all each other has — besides their father.
Under the abuse (both verbal and physical) there is a genuine care and want for the best for Okuyasu. Even if he goes the most violent way of showing it, Keicho cares about his little brother, because if he didn't then why would he do what he did when it came to Red Hot Chili Pepper?
Actions speak louder than words after all.
Though the two only have a 2 year age gap (16/18) they're still blood related, have an unbelievable power imbalance relationship that's so toxic you could get radiation poisoning from staring at them too long and... well... just look at them. So much potential for Keicho to tell his darling, loyal dog of a little brother what to do... and Oku doesn't want to disappoint his big bro after all.

Thinks about the homoeroticism of a concept not being able to exist without it’s opposite. Thinks about Prop being the first to walk away after the Balladeer’s death and having minimal interaction with anybody after that point, serving more or less only to turn on the radio in the TSBD. Thinks about Prop pointing at the Balladeer just before his death. Thinks about the fact that you can’t have hope without doubt, without fear, without resolve. Thinks about the fact that in order to do what they did, the assassins had to have been made up of just as much hope as they were despair. Thinks about being one of two beings in your world who has even a semblance of an understanding of your existence. Thinks about the fact that even on a two-headed coin, the faces are looking in opposite directions. Thinks about them.
