BUT if I had to pick one, I'd go with Luz and Amity dancing in the rain together. It's a microcosm of what I wanted from season 3 (fuck you Disney), but it's still a sweet happy moment.

4. Favorite Season?

Definitely season 2. It's the height of the series, where you can really see everything build up and all the relationships develop in different ways that turn out to be important at the end. While Season 1 is the beginning, and Season 3 is the resolution, Season 2 is really the process! 12. Favorite Friendship?

Willow and Gus! I don't see as many people talking about them, but they are THE original duo. They're not only established as best friends since the start of the series, yet they're also the start of the hexsquad. It was only them before Luz came along, after all. I love that they constantly help and support each other. Even when they met, they became friends when Willow helped Gus through a panic attack. Gus also continued to support and cheer for Willow all throughout the time she was bullied for being "half-a-witch". I love how they're both misfits who found each other in a tough situation and continued to be friends as the series came along! Even with the other important relationships they developed, they never disregarded one another or pushed the other away. I just love their friendship so much.

What episode got you invested in the show? Why?

I actually don't think there was one specific episode I can pin it on. I started watching TOH right before S2 aired but back then I was just like "Oh this is a cute little show!" and that was it. I didn't think about it too much after that. Then right before S3 was supposed to air I decided to go back and rewatch it all to prepare myself and for some reason that second watch-through flipped some kind of switch in my brain and suddenly I was obsessed with it. I guess I would just have to say it was the culmination of every episode in the first half of S1, where we are exploring the world and learning about Luz, that got me hooked.

5. Favorite platonic relationship?

This one's tough because there's so many! I guess I would have to say Luz and Hunter. While they are, of course, very close with the rest of their friend group, I feel like those two have been through a lot together and have shared experiences that no one else would really fully understand. Belos hurt everyone on the Isles, technically, but those two definitely got a lot of the brunt of it in a lot of ways. I like to imagine that sometimes if Hunter is over at Camila's or if their whole friend group is having a sleepover and one of them has a nightmare, the first person they'll usually go to is each other. Even after King's Tide, I think they would have leaned on each other a lot considering they both knew each other's biggest secrets.

11. Any songs from the soundtrack that stick out to you?

This might just be because he's my favorite character and I've analyzed him a lot but- Hunter's theme.

It such an ominous and menacing sounding song, even in comparison to Belos' (the literal main antagonist). Belos' starts off menacing but then kind of changes suddenly into something sadder, whereas Hunter's just stays menacing the entire time. Before we really know who the Golden Guard is, the music makes sense for him and it doesn't really hint towards anything deeper but then we actually get to know the boy behind the mask and suddenly the music doesn't seem right for him anymore. He's not menacing or evil or really even much of an antagonist at that point. The music isn't Hunter's theme, it's the Golden Guard's. The music is part of his mask.

20. Which character do you relate to the most?

Luz, hands down. I relate to the others in a lot of ways but Luz's character really resonated with me as a neurodivergent kid who was told to "grow up" or made fun of for my interests, trying to escape from reality by immersing myself into fictional worlds. Having no friends, being an outcast at school, and feeling like no one in the world really understands you.

Also just the whole hero complex and thinking that it's your responsibility to see the good in everyone and trying to help them and learning the hard way that some people are just beyond help. Also her blaming herself for what happened after King's Tide- thinking it was her fault despite only having had the best intentions...I've definitely been in similar (thought obviously less exaggerated) scenarios.

Okay, for this one I've got to say Luz. Probably because I relate to her so much. But the second has to go to Gus, who's just all-around awesome and hilarious.

That moment in Reaching Out when Luz finally spills what's been bothering her to Amity. It was so heartfelt, so sweet, and it really showed just how healthy their relationship was. And when Amity helped her give flowers to her dad afterward? It was amazing.

6. Favorite Hagsquad member?

Oh this one is really hard. I think I RELATE to Eda the most, and I love and admire her a lot--if I had to pick favorite in a more general way, I'd choose Raine! Raine is a bundle of really intense contradictions that just DRAW me. They are kind and warm personable--but they're also genuinely ruthless, cold and self-sacrificing to a point of bitter duty that I find monstrously compelling. Stage fright, but also a consummate performer...just not in the way that one would expect of a bard--that performance being that of steady leadership, the presentation of always knowing what to do. What a badass. But also, what a monstrous burden they continue to bear up. With a new palisman, white scars, white hair, they're still holding it all together three years later.

13. Favorite familial relationship? Luz and Hunter. I fell in love with that the minute they were introduced--it was so hilariously natural and intuitive in that way and I just could not un-see it. They were just so sibling from the beginning.

20. Favorite music from season 2?

Amity vs Hunter in the Eclipse Lake scene--although Kikimora and Hunter's battle music is DEEPLY underrated.

2: Favorite Season 2 Episode

AUGH I CAN'T CHOOSE. Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door is definitely a strong contender, but I also really like Edge of the World and Hunting Palismen. I love when King has a more important role, and I love the Owl Beast and wish we could have seen more of it! I also really like Hooty in general. He's a really fun character. It's also always a joy to see a palisman! I love these funky lil wooden guys.

King's Tide is so good too but MY FUCKING HEART. I always love to see the Collector!

So my answer is

12: Favorite Friendship

Another hard choice! But I think I have to go with our good old Hexsquad! Willow, Amity, Gus, Luz and Hunter(+ Vee as a bonus!) have all been through a lot together and very obviously love and are important to each other, to the point where the moment one of them is in danger, all of them are ready to throw themselves into danger, too, to save them. Luz, Gus and Willow's friendship is also clearly very important to Hunter- it quite literally saved his life. All in all, very good, well developed relationship between these guys!

Owlbert and Luz's friendship means a lot to me, too. Owlbert is a very important friend to Luz, he brought her to the Isles, he helped her save Eda, and I'm sure he's part of the reason Luz can use Stringbean so well when she's in Staff Form. His loyalty is with Eda, but I don't doubt that he'd do anything to protect his human friend, just like Luz would do anything to protect this adorable little owl. I don't think palismen often allow other people to wield them, since we only see this with Owlbert and Flapjack, so I think it says a lot about how close Luz is to these two birds.

Ayyy finally answering this, friend! Sorry that it took centuries to get to!

The one thing I don't shut up about is Hunter's ensuing depression after Belos's death, contrary to the Hollywood kind of ending where everything becomes sunny and everyone can easily move on. We would see the stuff that a therapist would tick the checkboxes for in a mental status exam: slowing down psychomotor-wise e.g. slower speech, flat moods which are the unsettling polar opposite to the earnest emotional expression we love him so much for, distracted attention span, less tidy appearance, and he'd be sleeping excessively for some time. (full mental health meta on this subject here: link) Camila would be making sure he has plenty of movies to watch on the couch so that he isn't locking himself too much in the basement T_T Darius would be monitoring how he helps to rebuild the Isles so that he doesn't overexert himself.

Amity, the twins and Alador would go for walks to the store, in the woods etc, and this bonding time in restoring their relationships would be so important.

Luz's two main challenges would be: 1. becoming more aware of the domino effect of teaching Philip the light glyph spell in the timepool, especially now that everyone is coming out of survival mode, 2. the guilt surrounding Flapjack...I don't think she'd just move on from puppet!Hunter's words "And then I lost him, helping you. But you still get to have your own palisman?!" God this makes me wonder...what was it that the Hexsquad went through in their minds which led to the beautiful decision to get their red tattoos together? I'm gonna sniffle, jfc.

Gus might be the first person to broach the subject of Flapjack again, since he verbally put the same subject out in the open in For the Future (working with Willow, who took the flyer derby photo off the wall to show to Hunter and trying to reach out to him). It's also in line with how he was the first one to express sadness after they became trapped in the human realm i.e. he broke down crying right away. I love this about him whereby he may excel in Illusion magic but he gets down to the truth right away.

Willow is utterly exhausted and there's still some remaining upset from her breakdown about how much she missed her dads, shouldered things on her own and kept things bottled up. She approaches Camila not long after they leave The Collector's Palace to say that Camila was right, and to say thank you. And she needs a bit of space alone for the upset feelings to run their course.

Mattholomule has more surprises up his sleeve for Gus, lol. Gus just doesn't stop being flabbergasted.

The first person to say anything to Kikimora, who is moping and stewing away somewhere, is of course Luz.

Luz and Hunter more or less switch places emotionally if you compare their TTT and WaD demeanors (in FtF, they were both under somewhat similar emotional strain, in their own arcs). In TTT, Luz was very far from her vibrant self, ruminated on her guilt and slowed down so much, while Hunter was on the move: excitedly exploring his self and interests while being in his comfort zone of wanting to help others (he still had the capacity to do so!). Luz wasn't out exploring and connecting with others: she was in the dark prison of depression. If we flip this for the pre-timeskip era: Hunter would slow down by gradually running out of steam to even help others, and isolate himself before getting better...struggling with the absence of Flapjack and Belos, being frozen in time in terms of this bereavement. While Luz, 1. became unfrozen from her long-term bereavement by beginning to accept that her dad and Papa Titan were gone (an emotional place which Hunter simply cannot reach until many months later), 2. was reunited with Eda and King and on the same page as Camila, and would be on the move seeing what she can do to contribute for the Isles. There is a parallel between both of them wrestling with guilt: Luz's guilt about how her encounter with young Philip led to Belos's regime, Hunter's about the impact of his actions as the Golden Guard.

God this one is tough to lay out in clear detail but...the sleeping arrangements for the Hexsquad during the first few nights...emotions catching up to them...I really wonder what it was, and who would want more of their own space and not trouble others (yet definitely not being at peace with whatever was going through their minds) versus who expressed their need to not be alone at night.. Maybe Luz wanted to be with Eda, Raine and King in the Owl House, Amity would have her space back in Blight Manor, and we have Willow, Gus and Darius extending invitations to Hunter. There's no way I can predict which choice Hunter made, coz he may have gone with an arrangement that would've left the others concerned. Whether he obliged out of politeness or was firm enough to say that he didn't want to burden them...hard to tell. OMT, what if he slept alone BUT the palismen secretly huddled by his side in the night like in this beautiful fanart which is one of my faves??: link

Contrary to Hunter, Vee's response to Belos's death would be far simpler closure because she had zero attachment to Belos. Hell, she wasn't raised by him for an entire childhood. And while she would've had some survivor's guilt, we know that the other basilisks eventually came back to life, unlike (ughhhhh) the Grimwalkers who can't be brought back. These are the clues as to how Vee could open up more, smile brightly, and begin to explore the big wide world around her:

Which means she would've definitely been an important influence for Hunter's recovery.

Amity vs Hunter in Eclipse Lake. It's what gave Amity my moniker for her of Abomination Brawler. We knew she was good. We didn't know she was that good.

23. Favorite fight scene from season 3?

The Hexkids vs Belos in Thanks to Them. Again it's another example of more of what I wanted to see.

3, 5, 9, 13, 17? For the asks game

3. Favorite episode? Why? Ramble as much as you'd like.

OOH There's so many!!! If I had to pick just one, I'd say Hollow Mind. It's a lot of people favorite I think but it's because it was such a good episode! It's so intense and we find out a lot of information during it. We find out that Belos is actually Philip (and human). We find out his backstory, albeit through ruined/burned pictures of him and Caleb. We find out that Hunter is a grimwalker and that Belos has made dozens of them and killed them all. We find out about the Draining Spell and how Belos is planning to commit literal genocide. It's the perfect culmination of everything we've been learning in the first 2 seasons up until that point and it answered all those questions in such an interesting (and horrifying!) way by having them go into Belos' actual head.

It was definitely the darkest episode in my opinion. Watching the draining spell almost kill all those witches, Luz absolutely breaking down when she finds out she'd helped Belos find the Collector, Belos literally trying to kill Luz and Hunter (and Hunter actually seemingly dying for a moment) only to just barely get away, Hunter breaking down and running off into the woods...It's just not easy to watch two poor kids get traumatized like that. A lot of the horror aspects definitely make it a memorable episode at least.

Also, the reveal where kid Belos transforms into actual Belos was the freakiest and coolest thing I've ever seen. I legit yelled at my screen when I saw it for the first time.

(And also, that extremely minuscule crumb of Dadrius content we got with Darius being concerned about Hunter being in the mindscape is impossible to not mention, given how much of a sucker for Dadrius I am.)

9. If the show had a full three seasons, whats something you genuinely think would happen? Not a wishful thinking, what do you think is something that would've happened?

I think we would've actually had the Bat Queen come back into play. Eda still had her whistle and I genuinely thought it would be used in the finale but then nothing happened. We also never really found out the Bat Queen's past, despite it being hinted that we would when Luz told her she would help. We can probably assume she was a Titan's palisman but then there's the whole logistics of "why would a Titan even need a palisman" or why she's the only one of her size left. The whole Bat Queen situation is a dead storyline that I feel would have been concluded if they actually had time for it.

13. Which season do you like best?

Season 2. Season 1 was fun and light for the most part but during the S1 finale, everything took a slightly different turn and the show started to get darker and the actual overarching conflict started to actually present itself more after that. I mean, we barely even saw Belos in S1 until the finale. I just love that point where seemingly lighthearted shows suddenly change tone and explore darker themes. It's so intriguing to me.

17. Character you want to like, but don't? Why?

I really had to think about this one. Kikimora. Not in the sense of liking her as a person but just liking her as an antagonist. Her whole drama with Hunter just seemed like a petty, childish feud for the most part and I didn't really understand the point of it for the longest time. I like the comedic potential it provides for fan content but in the actual show itself, I didn't care for it.

I did like the fact that the show kept almost redeeming her, only to take it back and have her go back to being evil again. It is nice to have a character like her who doesn't really care which "side" she's on, as long as she can gain from it. It just so happens that she thinks she can only gain from being on Belos' side.

She seemed pretty one dimensional for the most part until the very end where she helps King find The Collector and we find out that she knew about the grimwalkers the entire time. I really wish the show explored more about that aspect of her and what else she'd been aware of and the extent of it. I think if we learned more about that, she might have been a more interesting character for me but we just didn't get the chance and so it's hard for me to care about her.

6. Favorite Hagsquad member?

Okay, before this ask game I literally had no idea who the Hagsquad even was, so it took a while to think about it. But in the end I think I've got to say Lilith-- she made a terrible villain/enemy, but her redemption arc was done really well (my one problem with it was that she got Luz to forgive her way too fast) and she makes a great cool aunt. Also Lily and Hootsifer BFFs for life!

7. Favorite palisman?

I answered this question in the same post from earlier-- short answer, Flapjack.

8. Favorite other character?

Camila. 100% Camila. Despite learning that her daughter was stuck in a nightmarish realm of demons and witches and that a basilisk from that realm took her place, she was kind to Vee and gave her a place to call home, and when Luz came back she did everything she could to welcome her back and make her friends feel safe and welcome. When Luz decided that never returning to the Boiling Isles was the best thing for everyone, instead of going along with it and getting to keep her daughter with her in the human realm, Camila recognized that leaving the Boiling Isles forever wasn't the right thing for Luz-- and convinced her not to go through with it. She supported Luz all the way, understood and accepted her, not to mention she embraced this part of her daughter and the people Luz met and befriended along the way.

Ships: every SCOY pair

I see you, villain, I see what you are doing and it is not going to work. I will not rewatch SCOY. 

I love this show for what it says, I love getting a chance to see all the “undesirables” getting romance, and not just getting romance, but being actively pursued in those relationships. Never know what you’re gonna get out of Cheewin, but I am forever grateful to him for this show. 

So, without further ado, here is what I think about every SCOY pair. 

Toh and Nuea 

[by the way, I wrote this and then saw @ginnymoonbeams response, so please note I did not copy her, that just how Toh and Nuea are, and I thought the similarities in our responses were too funny to change how I wrote about them]

You’ve heard of bi4bi, you’ve heard of t4t, but you know what I don’t think we ever get enough of? Freak4freak. 

Part of the reason I do desperately owe this show a rewatch is because I fully skipped through a lot of the first couple episodes because I was extremely uncomfortable with Toh’s obsession with Nuea and how he was collecting things from him. But, now I love my little fucking freak, and love Toh and Nuea even more knowing that Neua a) knew that Toh was stalking him from the jump and b) was Here For It! 

So I want to go back and watch it from the beginning, without skipping through those parts this time. Billy and Seng have great chemistry, once we actually get to them in a relationship I feel like Toh and Neua make sense together, and I believe their attraction to each other 100%. I love how horny they both are for each other all the time, and how much they want to just be making out in the car instead of actually participating in necessary life tasks, like going to school. I swear to God I have never seen a character with such visceral stars in his eyes as Toh has when he looks at Nuea. Nuea and Toh are so obsessively in love it makes me homophobic, and I wish them many more happy years of collecting Nuea’s straw wrappers and recycled soda cans. 

Also, I love that they are verse. 

Also also, and I am so sorry but I do just have to say that the first thing that always pops in to my head when I think about Toh and Nuea is how fucking sweaty Toh is all the time. Billy and Seng worked well together, they are phenomenal actors, but dear lord did it pull me out of a scene sometimes seeing Toh just absolutely drenched. 

Sky and Khaojao 

This is how you do blushing maiden. I have never been in a romantic or sexual relationship with anyone before, and I will attribute some part of that to uncertainty and anxiety. There is some part of me that really believes that I too would struggle with initial physical advances, and so I love every single character that both reacts to their own anxieties around intimacy while at the same time being brave enough to push past it. I love the scene where Jao pulls away like he’s timid and shy about making out or having sex with Sky, and Sky puts a stop to the action, only for Jao to be like “you don’t have to stop”. Incredible. Phenomenal. Show stopping. 

I love watching Jao’s self confidence and security blossom throughout the show as he started letting himself believe Sky wanted him and loved him. They are so great together, I love how much of a unrepentant fool Sky is for his boyfriend. I want Sky and Jao to be fucking all the time so I can systematically steal all of Sky’s shirts while he is otherwise occupied. 

And I seriously don’t know what they are putting in the water at Idol Factory but again, Heng and Surprise had incredible chemistry. Such good chemistry in fact that I despite knowing they wouldn’t actually do it, I would Not Be Mad if Dr. Chalothorn met a certain handsome technical specialist while working with the detective force…all I’m saying is another show with a HengSurprise match up? I would like to see it. 

That said, I think my biggest difficulty with their plotline is that Secret Crush on You is about how all the people that are normally sides in these shows, the neurodivergent freaks, the trans kids, the fat kids, etc. are also attractive, worthy, and deserving of love but Jao isn’t fat. And it’s a hard thing for me because I love Surprise, I loved Surprise in that role, I don’t think I would have wanted another actor in there, or that the chemistry would have been the same. But I wish Jao had been fatter. 

Intouch and Daisy 

Shan, I am being so incredibly serious when I say Intouch and Daisy mean everything to me.

I will never ever be over these two. I wish, I wish with my whole entire being that we had had a bit more time with them. I don’t need a whole show. But Daisy is such a beloved character, she is oh so very dear to me, and with the emotional rollercoaster Daisy went on over the course of this show, she really deserves some dedicated time to be loved. I’ve said before one of the things I love about Thai BL is how frequently you have non-cis people just living life, vibing, existing etc and how that feels revolutionary. But despite how frequently I see non-cis people in Thai BL, I feel like we are still severely lacking in ~Gender~ romance. We have Yok in Only Friends, we have Mae in 3 Will Be Free, Molly in The Warp Effect, Ah Jain in About Youth and that’s pretty much it. 

Every moment Daisy and Intouch were on screen together, there was instant joy, and to this day, almost a year after I watched that show for the first time, I still get fleeting thoughts about the translator’s note that said (paraphrasing here) “wish there was a way to explain how Touch’s way of speaking is so respectful to Daisy’s identity”. Like?????? That’s poetry to me. 

They are a gorgeous little couple and I love them dearly. 

Kongkwan and Fon 

Becky and Freen have incredibly tangible chemistry that makes it so easy to read these two as girlfriends immediately. We got like thirty seconds of them but within that time frame we did at least get sexually suggestive jokes, and an obvious and confirmed relationship between them. To that I say let’s go lesbians!
