It's #OpenDoorFriday and we welcome you to the virtual tour of the Bayramov Museum. Today we begin our journey on the first floor, in gallery room № 1. Currently our entire first floor is occuppied with our travelling exhibition «Through the Eyes of Durdy Bayramov: Turkmen Village Life, 1960s-80s». It is a series of black and white photographs depicting the rural life of Turkmenistan. BUT, among these beautiful photographs we do have one oil painitng on the first floor. As our visitors enter the museum, they are greeted by the last finished self portrait of Durdy Bayramov. The art of self-portraiture was fascinating to the artist. #Funfact: Durdy Bayramov was the first Turkmen artist to ever create a self-portrait! He was initially inspired by Dutch master' self-portraits during his trip to Holland in 1970. Since then Bayramov created dozens of self-portraits. According to his daughters, after finishing this self-portrait in 2003 Bayramov stated that this is his true image – this is how he saw himself. This self-portrait is for the ages…

#funfactfriday The Paradise of Buddha Meitrya is a depiction of the first meeting of the future Buddha that was painted on a monastery wall in the Shanxi province. In the 1920s armies regularly plundered the villages and the monks decided to cut the mural into pieces and hide it away for safe keeping. Unfortunately famine and drought hit the area and destitute, the monks made inquiries to sell the piece. A bishop in the Henan province heard about the sale and helped procure it for the #ROM where it has remained since 1933. We are fortunate to have such unique pieces in our city and we hope you’ll join us to explore the China Gallery in a private tour this April. As a photographer, the last year I tried to make my #torontophotos a little more interesting with promoting #torontoartist that do #streetartgallery in the #streetsoftoronto - I just love seeing all the #publicart in our city. Not everyone has a chance to see #art unless donations are given to the various #torontomuseums. Problem with this is that not enough representation is done in the #torontogallery to present the #contemporaryart I see across the city as I #photowalk.
