I promised more merAU content during this month and then haven’t posted anything. I’m changing that, so here’s the thing I did with some of Wild’s memories. Also introducing Dusk and Midna!

And @tortilla-of-courage you’re still the only person I’ve got listed down for the tag list of this fic.

Twilight approached his brother cautiously, not wanting to upset him.

Wild was sitting on one of the big rocks along the shoreline by their house, holding his tail tight to his chest but still wearing the old, and slightly too small, shirt of Twilight’s they’d found for him, as everything else Twilight owned was too big on Wild’s smaller frame. He clearly hadn’t been swimming, though he also wasn’t wearing the skirt Malon had made for him to make the switch from land to sea easier either.

Wild was staring out at the water, lips pulled slightly down in a frown.

Twilight knew what this meant. Wild had remembered something, and was missing his original pod.

Flora, the Zelda on the marine research ship who had known Wild before, was still out trying to find the new reef Wild’s pod had moved to, to let them know Wild was alive and safe if nothing else, but hadn’t yet been able to. Not that anyone knew what would happen when she found them.

“Wild?” Twilight asked gently, sitting down in the sand next to his brother.

Wild didn’t say anything, so Twilight just leaned back on his arms, looking out over the water. He wondered, briefly, what Wild saw when he looked past the shore.

“I was a guard,” Wild finally said, voice quiet enough that Twilight barely heard him. “In my pod. I trained with a pair of mer who were also named ‘Link’,” Wild chuckled, and Twilight couldn’t help but grin at the repeat coincidence. “We had nicknames. Sky and Warriors, and they called me ‘Knight’. We were friends, I think,”

“Do you want us to call you Knight instead?” Twilight asked, watching his brother carefully for a response. It was always dangerous territory, to speak when Wild talked about his past.

Wild shook his head. “No, I’m not really Knight anymore anyways,” he lifted his head finally, squinting into the horizon. “I don’t know why, but I’m really worried about Warriors. I think, something I don’t remember might have happened, but I don’t know what it is,”

Twilight frowned, shifting to reach out and set a hand on Wild’s tail. “I’m sure he’s fine, whatever it is that happened to him. If he’s anything like you, then he’ll recover,”

Wild looked at him, and Twilight forced what he hoped was a reassuring smile onto his face. Wild nodded, and looked back out to the water.

Twilight didn’t know how to help his brother, and he hated that more than anything else.

‘Well, it’s good that he’s recovering his memories,’ Dusk offered.

Twilight was floating in the mouth of the trench, ranting about how helpless he felt not being able to help his brother feel better.

Midna and Dusk floated nearby, the three of them hidden from the rest of the trench mer in a small cave near the opening of the trench.

Dusk wasn’t a trench mer, but a deep sea mer born in the nearby pod that Time had come from. She was fully mer, and so couldn’t visit Twilight on land, so if they wanted to hang out it had to be underwater. She was sitting patiently on one of the small outcroppings, her purple and black tail curled neatly out of the way of Twilight’s pacing. Her name was also Zelda, thus the nickname.

Midna was a trench mer, the only one who was able to brave the waters above the trench. Like all trench mer she was all but covered in scales, even on her face, and if Twilight didn’t know her better, she’d be terrifying to see. Her tail was far longer than any mer outside the trench that Twilight had met, like she was an eel or something, her mouth was filled with daggers sharper than even mer and shaped like thorns, and her skin was tinted grey-blue. She didn’t bother curling her tail out of the way, the turquoise marked black tail something Twilight had to dodge as he swam in circles.

‘I don’t know what you’re ranting to us for,’ Midna rolled her eyes, her flashing taking a bit to translate since the trench mer had different markings used for speech, and they’d had to adjust to the difference when they first met. ‘I mean, I don’t know about Dusk, but I am not a good soundboard for family things. I mean, you’ve met my family,’

Midna waved out the cave entrance, towards the trench and the hungry, shadowy mer within it.

Midna was technically the matriarch of her pod, but Twilight and Dusk had learned quickly that this only meant she got first pick of a meal and the others didn’t try to fight her over stolen food.

Midna’s status as matriarch was the only thing keeping the trench mer from tearing Twilight and Dusk limb from limb, and even then they never went deeper than they had to.

Twilight pressed the heels of his hands into his eyes, taking a long, slow breath. He sank slowly to the bottom of the cave.

He looked up when a hand landed on his shoulder, looking up at Dusk.

‘Midna is right, we don’t have a lot of experience with stuff like this,’ she began, biting her lip a bit. ‘But most people don’t really have experience here. We’re willing to help where we can though,’

She gave Midna a serious look, and the trench mer rolled her eyes.

‘Right, helpful, trying. Got it,’

Dusk gave her a sour look and turned back to Twilight. ‘What is it that Wild remembered?’

‘He was a guard in his original pod,’ Twilight flashed. ‘He trained with two other Links, and he thinks something happened to one but he doesn’t remember what and he’s a bit worried,’

‘Why don’t you get him a spear then?’ Midna suggested.

Both Dusk and Twilight turned to look at her.

‘What? He clearly knows how to use one. It might make him feel better,’

Twilight swam up and seized Midna in a hug, which threw her off quite a bit. He pulled back a bit, holding her shoulders.

‘Midna you are a genius!’ Twilight grinned wide.

‘Thank you!’ Midna blinked at him. ‘I think?’

‘Do you even know where to find a spear?’ Dusk asked.

Twilight shrugged. ‘Dad had a few fishing harpoons in a shed. That’s close enough, right?’

‘What’s a fishing harpoon?’ Midna asked.

Dusk shook her head at both of them and put her head in her hands, sighing.

Twilight held out the harpoon to Wild, grin on his face.

Time floated in the water behind them, next to Ruto and Mipha, watching the exchange.

Wild slowly took the harpoon, eying it carefully.

‘This is crappy quality for a weapon,’ Wild said finally.

Twilight hunched up his shoulders and shrunk a bit, fiddling with the harpoon in his own hands. ‘Well, they weren’t supposed to be weapons, but, they’ll work, right?’

Wild eyed the harpoon a bit longer, then spun it in his hands.

‘It’ll do,’ Wild nodded after a moment, looking up at Twilight. ‘So, you wanted me to teach you to fight?’

Twilight nodded, hoping his grin wasn’t too eager. He’d tried asking his father to teach him several times over his life, but Time always insisted that Twilight didn’t need to know that particular skill (he didn’t know just how often Twilight visited the trench, nor that he considered one of the mer there a friend), so he was pretty excited that Wild might be willing to teach him instead. It helped that it was a way to offer Wild something that he used to have.

‘Okay,’ Wild nodded. ‘Here, copy me and hold the harpoon like this,’

Twilight was happy to do so, mirroring Wild as best he could.

Twilight had one of the harpoons strapped to his back the next time he visited the trench, just in case. Dusk took her spear with her, after all.

Time caught him when he came home, having been curious about where he was going with a weapon, and had gotten quite upset.

Well, he was upset until Dusk followed Twilight up with Midna in tow, and both girls quickly made it clear why they gathered in the trench instead of somewhere safer.

Twilight was grounded for a week, but the day the punishment lifted Time had presented Twilight with a much stronger and sturdier harpoon, something that he could actually use as a weapon if he needed to.

Wild was very happy to have Time agree to teach them both a few techniques he learned in his pod and from the zora who lived closer to the coast. Twilight was as well, but was careful to keep why Time agreed to himself.

No need to worry Wild about his various ventures to the trench, right?

“Here. I uh, I got this for you,”

Twilight looked up from where he was just floating to turn his head at the voice.

Wild was floating a ways away, and Mipha was treading water across from him, thrusting something silver that Twilight couldn’t make out from his angle at Wild.

Twilight kicked his tail once to try and bring himself to a better angle.

‘You didn’t have to,’ Wild said, taking the silver thing from Mipha, eyes running over it with awe. It was a trident, Twilight learned, one that looked identical to the Lightscale Trident on Mipha’s own back.

“I know,” Mipha said, looking down a bit embarrassed. “But, I saw how much you enjoyed sparring with your brother, and a fishing harpoon isn’t much of a weapon, so I thought, maybe,” she trailed off slightly, looking up just a bit hopefully.

She was even more helpless than Wild was, and that was saying something.

‘Thank you,’ Wild offered her a shy smile, and Twilight reached up to cover his mouth. ‘I really appreciate this,’ he hugged the trident to his chest.

Twilight really needed to find a way to get those two to just admit they were in love, this was almost painful.

“Of course!” Mipha grinned. “I mean, I figured, I just, um. I’m glad you like it,”

‘I do, very much,’ Wild nodded quickly. ‘Um, also, I uh, I don’t think I’ve ever used a trident before. Would you, maybe, be willing to spar with me? Help me get used to it?’

“Yes! Of course!” Mipha nodded. “I’d be happy to!”

Wild and her both did these sort of relieved, breathy half-laughs, and Twilight rolled his eyes, banking back towards the shore. This was getting painful to watch.

Maybe he’d grab his harpoon and head out to the trench, bother Midna for a bit.

At least Wild was feeling better.

2. He has such a range of emotion, and I love a ferally angery man. He's also the one holding the Master Sword, and he's light on his feet. He's simply so amazing

3. Sky has been my favorite ever since I started actually getting into Legend of Zelda and playing more than BOTW about three years ago <3

4. I don't like that he doesn't have freckles(and the fact that he isn't really tan/darker skinned despite literally living five feet away from the fucking sun). He also doesn't use his plethora of items in the LU, which would be beneficial for him.

5. He's such an amazing fighter(plus he's easy to angst, so) Sky also seems comfortable to be around, and I feel conversations would go easily with him

I think I'm gonna attempt something.

Tagging @tortilla-of-courage since I discussed this fucker with you lol.

This is my Linksona; his nickname is Vengeance (maybe his game would be called The Legend of Zelda; Vengeance of Link idfk) and his main drive is fury. He's not a hero by any stretch of the imagination, he's just extremely pissed off that his best friend got fucking kidnapped.

Outside of his mission to find Zelda, he's actually a pretty nice guy. He's incredibly friendly and adventurous and prone to getting himself in trouble, but fuck with the people he cares about and he's practically a different person.

But right now, he's in rage mode.

They didn't like this new Link.

Currently, the group of heroes stood around a tree stump, where sat the bound form of a feral beast in the shape of one of their kind; snapping and snarling and struggling to free himself.

"Let me out of here you fuckers or I swear to Hylia I'll kill you all!"

They all had their weapons drawn, and Time stepped forward, crouching down to meet the eyes of the new arrival. "We will untie you once you stop being a threat to us."

The bound one glared at time with enough malice in his ice-blue eyes to cause the hero to actually flinch, "I don't give a fuck about you, you can live as long as you stay out of my way. Every second you keep me here, Zelda is in more danger."

"Do you even know where you are?" Wind spoke quietly from behind Twilight; even though the new guy's voice wasn't the most robust, even while angry, the energy he gave off was undeniably intimidating.

The hate-filled gaze shifted, "no, pipsqueak, I don't. And I can't find that out while being tied up here."

Wild glanced at Sky, who stood beside him, "We sure this is a Link? His energy feels very similar to the pools of malice I can find back home."

Sky raised an eyebrow and mentally called Fi from the sword. "Can you, uh, just check for us that this guy is one of us?"

Fi nodded, "very well master." There was a moment of silence as the spirit of the master sword looked over the feral man impassively, tension quivering in the air like one of the strings on Sky's lyre. "I can confirm that there is a 85% chance that this is a hero chosen by the goddess."

"And the other 15%?" Four asked quizzically.

"While this person does posses blessings that coincide with all of you, they also appear to be female."

Minish smiled, "Oh, about that! He's still a man like us Fi, I've got a few friends like that in my timeline." He turned to the Link bound before them. "You just wanna save your Zelda, right?"

"That's what I've been saying! Un-fucking-tie me so I can save her!"

Minish nodded, beginning to approach him, responding to the shouts of protest matter-of-factly, "Look, if he wants to save his Zelda, he's not gonna waste time killing us. Plus, we're the only ones here who know where we are, and he needs us to get back to his own time."

Using his sword, Minish freed the man. "We aren't your enemy, my friend. We can help you find your Zelda, and help you get her back. I'm trusting you here, can you extend that favour to us?"

The angry one growled, massaging his wrists. "Fine. But I will not tolerate any goofing around; if you get in my way, I will kill you. My Zelda is the only person I give a fuck about, and my only mission is vengeance."

Time rubbed the bridge of his nose, he really didn't like this new member of their band.

I still play piano (not well), but I put my trumpet away and haven’t touched it in years lol I would LOVE to join another bell choir or band tho ngl I was actually pretty good playing trumpet XD I could go two octaves :P I have an ocarina but I never actually learned to play it. I would love to learn wooden flutes though so I can live out my forest elf dreams irl like Lumira on tiktok XD I can play a little bit of “concerning hobbits” and “my heart will go on” on the recorder too :P I’m not too great on it tho

Thanks for the tag @makeshift-moth! (I’ve never done a tag and I’m probably doing it wrong, but I’m having fun!)

1. What’s your favorite thing to drink at the end of a long day?

The adult answer might be Coke and this Pecan Praline flavored whiskey that I love, but I’m honestly not much of a drinker. A Hokkaido Milk Tea from ShareTea turns even my worst day around, though.

2. Do you have any weird little knick-knacks and where did they come from?

I have a quite a few little knick knacks! But I think the weirdest one is a framed picture of Franklin D. Roosevelt signing the New Deal that I bought in a very cute thrift store in my very conservative hometown right before I moved into my first apartment.

3. What was the last thing you made/drew/cooked?

I just made muffins! A banana nut muffin mix.

4. What movie do you have an inexplicable connection to?

Airplane! It’s a really good comedy, but it’s hard to find a reason for why it’s my favorite movie of all time. It even beats out the LOTR series, and I’ve watched that at least 300 times.

5. What does your favorite outfit look like?

My favorite outfit is a long green and white striped shirt with a giant canvas patch in the middle of the chest that has a picture of a cat holding a fish, with some soft stretchy leggings. The canvas patch makes the shirt thick enough that I don’t have to wear a bra with it, and it’s easy to dress up and still have a bit of personality.

6. Do you prefer hot weather or cold weather (And what’s the best part about it?)

COLD! I love autumn weather, but even winter isn’t bad. Summers are awful in the south where I’ve always lived, and I get heatstroke easily. While hot weather comes with sunburns, sweating, and other nastiness, cold weather just gives you a reason to stay inside, and in bed under a thick comforter preferably.

7. Describe your weirdest teacher, whether good or bad.

I went to public school in the south, so I’ve had some...experiences. Bad ones. There was a substitute History teacher that took over half of a semester after the original one was busted for looking at child pornography, and he was a Christian missionary with a HUGE white savior complex. He showed us this movie, the title is completely lost on me, where this woman living in North Korea endures starvation and her once loving husband becoming more abusive to her after he was drafted to become a soldier. But then, she finds Christian missionaries and everything gets better! (But not really, she just “has strength from God” to endure all of the horrors of her life. Also, please donate to blah-de-blah foundation so they can spread the Good Word in North Korea.) He would also talk about how he took in a family from Cambodia into his home in America, and claimed that one of the children would defecate under the coffee table because “That’s what they do there!” As implausible as absolutely all of that is, it’s also incredibly racist!

8. Do you have any pets? If not, what pet would you like to have some day?

I have four cats - Jerry, Meaty, Riku, and Mustard. Jerry’s only crime is peeing on the bed when he’s having some trouble with anxiety, Meaty will cause destruction when she’s hungry (attempted murder on two counts, both of which occurred when she pushed a candle that was on a windowsill above my head to almost hit my head), Riku is a “velcro kitty” because she has trouble remembering how to retract her claws and thus can accidentally claw someone and ‘stick.’ And Mustard has many crimes, because he’s the baby. He’s a dedicated dairy thief who will try to eat anything you’re eating that has dairy products, and he is also the only one who will jump on top of the very tall bookshelf. Today, he knocked over one of my gf’s Legend of Zelda Hyrule textbooks and damaged the spine.

9. What has made you happy recently?

Creating my Discord! It’s been so fun talking to people, since I usually lurk on social media spaces.

10. What’s your favorite vine/tiktok?

I’m Olde, so I’m not on tiktok, but I reference “Hurricane Tortil-la” every single time that my girlfriend buys or needs me to grab tortillas for her.

Masterpost

Hey, I’ve finally found the need for a masterpost of all my stuff.

So, I’m Attllhak, but you can feel free to call me Atta. I’ve also gotten the nicknames Att and Atty as well, and both of those are fine too. Sometimes I write things, and this is where they go. My main is @iamyourchair and you can feel free to bother me there too if you want, though that blog is almost entirely reblogs of stuff I find cool. For navigation tags, I use ‘#atta answers’ for asks and ‘#atta responds’ for reblogs. If I ever post something that’s just me talking into the void I’ll tag it ‘#atta babbles’. The tags I use for when I’m talking about worldbuilding for my stuff or I’m talking about my headcanons are ‘#i talk worldbuilding’ and ‘#my many headcanons’ respectively. Everything that’s part of the same AU or part of a series will have a tag connecting them. Fanart I get for anything I make will go under the appropriate connected tag when applicable, and also the tag ‘#fanart for my fic’, but I won’t be linking to it on this post. I try my best to tag for triggers and warnings, but you can always ask me to add a tag I missed to something.

Feel free to pop into my inbox and ask me about any of my stuff, though I would like to ask that you keep it mostly to questions and potentially suggestions, as I am not comfortable with statements that feel like they are simply asserting things about my AUs or works to me, and anything that feels like it’s dictating my stuff to me will be ignored/deleted. Also, while I am an adult I would prefer to avoid anything NSFW, since while I am a biology/xenobiology nerd I am also aspec and don’t like discussing that sort of stuff, and certainly not publicly.

Height: 5′10″/178cm

Last thing I searched for: “cheers in polish” -- It is “Twoje zdrowie”, which once again confirms to me that the pronunciation rules for Polish approach Icelandic difficulty

Favourite musician: Don’t really have one... I always have trouble with favourites because I like so many things for very different reasons, so I am all over the place with music. Recently the “nicest” comment I had on my music was “You have a very... interesting collection...”

If I had a time machine would I go back or into the future: Future! I just love the chance to learn so much more

Do I get asks: Not a lot, but I am generally happy to answer them! (Though if you are asking on anon I am much more likely to just give a joke answer)

Would I rather be rich or famous: Rich. Famous people get bothered too much

How much sleep do I get: 7ish? Because of the summer heat I keep windows open, but then I wake up early from traffic and my neighbour’s dogs, so I close the windows and try to go back to sleep.

What’s my favourite food: Stuffed potatoes?

Favourite books/games/films/shows: Recently the Expanse series have been the best books, Love Zelda game series so much especially Breath Of The Wild, movie is Alien, and current show binge in Happy Endings

Do I play any instruments: Learned guitar for a bit, but I didn’t care about it enough to keep on

What am I wearing: Underwear because I am ready for bed, but also was just up to try and make some tortilla dough. Sure, it is past midnight, but that will never stop me.

What is my dream job: Optometrist. I really like it! I guess I would also be happy living in the woods as an ecologist.

Dream trip: Iceland and Scotland, then down through mainland Europe and up through Scandinavia
