So torn about season 3 of Netflix's Sex Education. On the one hand, really great nonbinary representation. On the other hand, really bad dog agility representation.

Our favourite gryffindor- slytherin boys x fem! Reader
A/n: I’m soo sorry for being inactive !!! <3
Warnings :none
Not proof read it’s low-key rubbish I’m SORRY
But I post edits on tik tok __nxtx__
Example :
Summary: you walk into dumbledores office without knocking.
“Ok again 5,6,7,8” Madame Levore shouted
You and some girls and boys danced to the music your hips sway in sync. Your trainers scraping the floors you were all tried and sweaty.
“Enough!” The music stopped as Madame levore lit a cigarette
“Most of you have two left feet !” The French woman shouted the students slumped to the ground in exhaustion
“Madame Levore you don’t teach us! You're a ballet teacher you know nothing of this dance style you don’t run the routines with us we do as a team you just shout at us and make us dance till we drop. Well no more!” Y/n shouted students around her gasped
“What did you say to me you little brat” y/n smirked moving a piece of equipment to reveal professor lupin he shook his head in disbelief
“Well Madame levore I shall be speaking to professor dumbledore about this” the professor put a hand to your shoulder before leaving the room
“You don’t respect us you make us dance till we loose our senses. We haven’t had a break in hours. I wouldn’t get too comfortable Madame levore when dumbledore hears about this he will not be happy” the older woman just scoffed
You storm out of the class heading to the headmasters office you knock once and enter without waiting for an answer. Your chest puffing in and out of anger unaware of the occupants in the room
“I’m sorry professor dumbledore but I cannot stand that woman you must get rid of - ooh” the students turn smirking at you it was none other then your slytherin boys. You shyly smiled slightly embarrassed.
“Oh miss l/n give me one second the boys were just about to give our new student a tour of the school”
“Well well well if it isn’t our favourite gryffindor” Theo Nott smirked at your before hugging you. You wrapped your arms around his waist sighing
“Hi guys”
“Now miss l/n what’s the matter” the head master popped a lemon sherbet into his mouth awaiting for your rant
“Well professor, Madame Levore is a horrible teacher she makes us dance till we drop my friends are all exhausted and we can’t have a break she treats us like we are animals” the headmaster hums in agreement
“Professor lupin briefly informed me of her teaching Very well miss l/n she shall be dismissed and you can take over the class how does that sound?” You smiled in victory
“Thank you so much professor you won’t regret this”
“I know I won’t miss l/n your a brilliant student now boys you can take mr.riddle with you to where miss l/n is going and send Madame levore to me please” the boys nodded and you all left
“So y/n we want you to meet Mattheo Riddle” you turned on your heels to face the boy
“Oh hi nice to meet you I’m -
“Y/n yes I’ve heard a lot about you” the boy smiled and took your hand placing a kiss to your palm you blushed slightly before removing your hand
“Good things I hope” the boys smirked Theo threw an arm over your shoulder as you continued to the studio
“She’s cute” you hear Mattheo whisper to Draco
“ we told you” you shook your head laughing

The scared lion (Pierre Gasly)
Alexandre Gasly is scared to go to school but he has his papa there to help him through
Note: english is not my first language. Here is some dad!Pierre since I have posted Mick pieces a lot recently. Also, this is a topic that I too feel very respectful, strongly and personally about, this is in no way to offend or point out fingers for anyone 🤍 each person has their own way and this is my perspective, knowing fully well that life and society don't always allow for things like this to happen (I could make a whole post about this but I'm going to stop here because I don't want to bore you out of your mind) lastly, shout out to my mom's kindergarten teacher for the name inspo
Thank you so much to everyone who likes and reblogs, your feedback is appreciated 🤍 and I'm not taking requests so if you have any ideas or concepts you want to share, feel free to do so but know that I'm not certain when I'll be able to tend to them!
Tw: child not wanting to go to school so he can stay with his father (display of emotions)
Since Pierre was home for the week, you had articulated your schedules so he would be the one to bring Alexandre to kindergarten while you left a bit earlier so you could get ahead of work in hopes of getting it all done by the early afternoon and still spend a good part of the afternoon with your boys. "Mama is going to work now!", you announced once you entered the kitchen, "Doesn't mama look pretty in her dress?", Pierre prompted your son to look at you, his blue eyes he got from his father shining as his mouth opened in awe, "Tu es très belle, mama!", he complimented you, "and we are matching!", he pointed to the green coloured pyjamas he was wearing that matched your dresse's fabric, "Thank you boys", you smiled, kissing your husband's lips as a form of thank you as well as Alexandre's head, "Have a nice day Alexandre, mama loves you buddy!", you said before you made your way our of the door.
Once they had tidied the kitchen a bit, Pierre went upstairs with Alexandre to get him ready for school, picking out a pair of shorts and a green t-shirt, per his son's request so he could still match his mama, grabbing his trainers and brushing his hair, "there! All done, little man", he smiled, getting a cardigan from the back of the bedroom door just in case it was colder than expected outside.
"Are we ready to go?", Pierre asked as Alexandre grabbed his backpack that had his snacks for the day as well as his favourite book that he wanted to show his friends, "Oui, papa", he gave him a small smile as they headed to the car.
Arriving at school, Pierre noticed his son's uneasiness when they stepped inside the gates, his little hand squeezing his much bigger one as they walked to the area where the kids meet up with their teacher, "Look, that's Hugo, right?", Pierre pointed to one of Alexandre's classmates that he always mentioned, assuming the the boys were getting along well, "yes", his son replied faintly as he intensified his grasp on his hand. "Bonjour Alexandre, how are you today?", Madame Auclair called for him, and the little boy broke down, tears pooling in his eyes as he looked up at his father, his arms opening so he could hold on to his legs, "What's wrong, mon petit?", Pierre tried to get his attention, unlatching his arms for a little bit so he could crouch down, Alexandre's arms looping around his neck immediately, "Is there something wrong in the class, Alexandre? Is someone being mean to you?", his teacher asked, knowing how children could be from her years of experience, while Pierre tried to wipe some his tears away, the little boy shaking his head no and nuzzling further into his father's neck, "Is it okay if we stay here for a bit?", Pierre asked, knowing that he had done this once from what you've told him and that he wasn't going to make his son go in before comforting him. The teacher nodded and Pierre held his son in his arms while walking to a more secluded area of the hallway, not needing the attention on them like that, "Hey, it's okay, little man, it's okay", he soothed, brushing his fingers over the hair on his forehead and wiping the tears that were drying on his cheeks, "Can you tell papa why are you crying? Are you upset?", he tried, Alexandre looking up at him, "I don't want to let you go, I'm scared", he mumbled, his top lip shaking as tears threatened to spill from his eyes again, "and why is that? Mama and I are coming to pick you up today when you're done, it won't be long", he informed, sensing some ease get back in his son's body, but still not enough for him to let go, "are you?", he asked, "yes, and me and mama and you are going to spend the afternoon together", he said as the little boy smiled a bit, "and we can play football together?", he asked, "of course, I even bet that mama is going to score a goal!", your husband said as he tickled his tummy, Alexandre seeming a little more confident now, "Do you remember what the happened to the lion on your story?", Pierre asked, pointing to the book your son had in his back pack. "He was a big lion but sometimes he was still scared to go alone or to meet his new friends, when he went to meet the zebras", he mumbled, the story plot at the tip of his tongue from all the he made you guys read it to him, "And what did he do?", Pierre caressed his head, not letting go of the embrace, "he went and he made friends wirh everyone, because you can be big and be scared, that's okay, but with your friends everything is better", he explained, "and with mama and papa too", he finished, unlatching his arms so he could grab Pierre's hand and lead them to his class's door.
"Are you sure you want to go in now? I can stay for a bit longer if you want to", Pierre offered assurance to his son, "I can do it papa, merci", he said as he kissed his cheek, knocking on the door to see all his friends and Hugo, who came to greet him at the door, Pierre nodding to the teacher before he bid goodbye.
At around 3pm you had done everything you needed for work and had texted your husband to tell him he could come and pick you up, timing it so you could tidy your things at the office before heading down, only waiting a few minutes in the sun until you saw his car, "Hi pretty lady, fancy a ride?", he said as he rolled down the window, "I am married, very well married actually", you went along, "I'm sure you are, I've heard your husband is quite a catch", he said as he watched you get in the passenger's seat, kissing your lips before making his way over to Alexandre's school. "Mama, papa!", you heard your son's voice once he had seen you in the middle of all the parents, waving goodbye to his teacher and friends before he ran to you, his arms holding your's and Pierre's legs, "Did you have a nice day at school, mon ange?", you asked as you ruffled his hair, "yes mama", he replied shortly, choosing not to mention the morning situation Pierre had told you about on your way over, and grabbing both of his parents' hands, excited for a family afternoon.

“This really feels like a lot of work to go out to lunch.” Evangeline huffed as she watched you pull your hair into a ponytail, slipping on a baseball cap, your eyes shaded from view. You adjusted your outfit in the mirror, a simple white t-shirt and jeans you had found at a vintage store in Amsterdam a couple of years ago. “We're in Cannes, I don't think this outfit is going to have the effect you're going for. Vous allez avoir l'air pauvre" (you're going to look poor). You rolled your eyes at your sister. She bared the title of princess just as you did, but had decided at a young age that she wasn't going to let it define her, a luxury she had because she was fifth in line for the throne and was almost guaranteed her freedom.
"I'm not trying to blend in, I'm just tired of the tweed suits mother makes us wear when we're at home. Haven't you ever wanted to just wear jeans and trainers?" You looked at Evie, her outfit a stark contrast to yours, a shift dress complete with stockings even though it was well over 29 degrees celsius outside. She only wore those outfits to anger your mother, who wasn't blind to Evie's rebellion, knowing it drove her crazy that she followed the royal dress code, but no other traditions.
"It's bad enough that we have to stay in this hotel, and now I'm going to have to watch you go through a quarter life crisis. Ce n'est pas l'été que j'avais prévu" (This is not the summer I had planned). She huffed, slumping in the large leather chair she was sitting in.
"Stop with the dramatics. We'll be back at the villa tomorrow."
"Tell me why we had to stay here again?" You swallowed, turning your attention back to the mirror as you adjusted your hat once again. "Seulement vous vous plaigneriez de séjourner dans un hôtel cinq étoiles" (only you would complain about staying in a five star hotel). You told Evangeline you were staying at the Mondrian Cannes hotel so you could be close to the beach but truthfully you were avoiding your fiance, Mathias, who was staying at the your family's villa for the summer. He was set to leave tomorrow, giving you the perfect opportunity to arrive just as he was departing, and you could blame it on conflicting schedules. "Let's go, we're going to miss our reservation."
The hotel lobby was buzzing with people arriving for the Cannes film festival, celebrities and common folk alike checking in. You slipped your hand into your purse, frantically searching for your phone before you realized you must have left it in the hotel room. "Je dois retourner à la chambre" (I have to go back to the room), you called out to your sister who didn't hear you as she walked out of the grand double doors to the outside.
You turned on your heels quickly, immediately slamming into a solid chest. You had to look up to meet the eyes of the man you had just collided with, as he was at least a head taller than you. "Excusez-moi, madame". You couldn't help but chuckle at his terrible french, overpowered by a midwestern accent you had heard a couple of times during your travels to the US. "Sorry, I'm not really good at french, I only took a couple of classes in high school, and never really paid attention." You were mesmerized by his brilliant smile, the perfect compliment to his handsome face, his hair buzzcut, and his beard just extending beyond his jaw line.
"Its mademoiselle. If they're married you can use madame, but anyone else you're going to insult if you use it wrong." You returned his smile with a grin of your own.
"I'll try to remember that. I'm Travis." He extended out a hand, retracting it immediately when he realized you weren't going to return it. "Sorry, I forgot where I was for a second."
"What's that supposed to mean?" You narrowed your eyes at him, watching him squirm. You were very used to American customs and were just toying with him.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I just-"
"I'm joking with you. My name is Y/N."
"Very nice to meet you." You could feel his gaze run up and down your body, taking in your shape. It was a shame you were wearing this outfit, he thought to himself, because he could tell there was something more enticing underneath the plain clothing.
"Have a good day." You had spent too much time out in the open, you were surprised paparazzi hadn't swarmed the lobby at this point, waiting to catch you doing something scandalous. Standing next to a handsome American wasn't going to help the infidelity rumors you had been fighting with Mathias.
"Wait, can I get your number?" Travis stopped you with a hand on your arm. His touch felt weirdly comfortable, something you didn't expect from a stranger.
"Travis, you are in France, we don't give out our numbers here." You pulled the brim of your hat further down your face as you entered the elevator, Travis' eyes on you the entire time. He had just met his next fling, and you had just met the man who would change your life forever.

it is late and i am sleep deprived and i have worked up the nerve to post part of my wip.
so here goes, this is a scene between my main characters. here goes. posting this for people to see.
“You ready?” I ask. She nods slowly. “Are you?”
“I hope so,” I respond. We walk into the final training room, where Madame Cytherea, our new instructor, is standing in the center talking to the other trainees. “You are late,” she tells us, her voice shrill. “Sorry, ma’am,” I respond, hurriedly. I thought class started at 8:00, it's only 7:53. As if to prove my thought, another group of trainees walks in the door.
“Class starts at 7:50, on the dot,” Madame Cytherea informs them. “I know this is your first day, but you need to be punctual if you want to succeed.” The students nod, hurrying to their places. “Alright. I hope everyone is here, as we are already three minutes behind schedule.” Another group of students walk in, cowering under her glare. “What time were you all told that class starts?” she asks them, her voice shaking with rage. “Eight o clock,” a nervous girl whispers. She nods. “Ok then. We will wait until then. And class will run ten minutes late.” The entire room groans. “Next time, everyone should show up on schedule,” she reminds them. I make eye contact with Nyx, who shrugs. I scoot my chair closer to hers. “What do you think of her?” I whisper. “Seems sleep deprived,” Nyx murmurs, deep in thought. “Seems grumpy and obnoxious,” I add. “Indeed.”
“Nyx, do you have a nickname yet?”
“No!” she exclaims in frustration. I put a hand on her shoulder. “All I can think of is Madame C,” she continues, her volume back to a whisper, “And that is so basic.”
Nyx prides herself on teacher nicknames. She drove our third year trainer into early retirement. “It's ok. I like Madame C.”
“No, you don't. But you are sweet to lie.”
I roll my eyes. “I actually like it. She is so stuck up the abbreviation would kill her. And if you say it in the careless way you do, it will do its job. And I don't do flattery, you know that.”
Nyx nods slowly. “Madame C it is, then. Since you want me to be basic.”
I grin. “Just try it.” Nyx nods, and straightens in her seat, raising a hand politely in the air. “Yes?” Madame Cytherea asks, her voice thin. “Can I use the restroom, please?”
“You may.”
“Yes! Thanks, Madame C.” Nyx springs up out of her chair, and skips out the door. Madame C’s face turns several shades darker, the veins in her forehead starting to show. I cover my mouth to hide the smile. I was right, abbreviation was the way to go. Nice job. She looks ready to explode. I project the thought over to Nyx, careful not to invade her mind while sending the message. Already? Nyx’s voice fills my head, You were right on the money, Vala. Nice work! My face warms slightly at the praise, and I feel suddenly grateful Nyx isn't in the room, her blue eyes locking with mine…
A cold, bony fingertip alights on my shoulder. I look up to see Madame C, speak of the devil, staring down at me. “You and your friend will not receive special treatment because of your… connections.” I nod, “Of course, ma’am.”
“Good.” The woman straightens uncomfortably, and walks away. Nyx slides back into her seat. “We won’t be receiving special treatment, except for when we do because everyone is scared of you?” We both know the speech. I nod, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. “They realize that your dad won’t protect you, right?”
“Nope. They are convinced he gives a crap about my happiness.” Nyx chuckles darkly. We both know the truth about my father. Related by blood only. I smile stiffly, starting to feel uncomfortable. She notices, and changes the subject. “How is the phasing working out?”
“I’m making progress,” I reply, glad to talk about something I can control. “I got stuck in the wall yesterday, but I managed to escape within an hour.”
“An hour?” Nyx raises her eyebrows. “But I’m getting better!” I protest. She nods sagely. “But you still chose an over-complicated medium,” she reminds me. I roll my eyes. “You keep reminding me. Yo haven’t even chose anything yet!”
“But I didn’t choose matter manipulation.”
I groan, slumping in my seat. Nyx just rests her head on my shoulder. “I could let your head sink into me right now,” I whisper. “You won’t, though,” she responds. I pause. She’s right. As always. “Shut up,” I shrug my shoulder, forcing her off. “You know me better than that,” she replies, and I can hear the smile in her words.
ok i hope that wasn’t terrible. please give me feedback so i can become functioning as a writer, because this is probably bad. idk. someone tell me, tho

EVERYONE LOOKS SO GOOOOOOOOD Anyways i hope you approve of my class choices. i wanted as much variety as possible
Silque is indeed very oetty and I can confirm that that is the game over screen
For class choices I don't fully agree with them, but you can do well with anything
The lack of a mage worries me, especially with this games low resistance stats (kliff does very well as a mage and is also his "canonical" based on supports, personality and heroes)
Gray mercenary is great no notes there he's just good and fits the class
Faye pegasus knight is also pretty good and what I did on my first playthrough but I know some people like 2 healers early on
Cavalier tobin should be fine, I made him an Archer on my first playthrough but whatever, I don't really like putting my villagers on cavalier mostly just because you get A LOT of cavaliers in this game already, but you wouldn't know that
Anyway, do whatever you want I won't judge, anything works probably

🐹🎲🌈👎📚🎨🤝🎭🔪📅 for Sun?
🐹 Which would be your OCs favorite Pokemon? What kind of trainer would they be?
Sun has no favorites. He believes that every Pokémon is valuable, and with the right training, become the strongest. But if he had to choose, it would probably be his first Pokémon: Helios, his Charizard. As for the type of trainer he is, currently he´s the definition of "invincible". A versatile, strategic and strong trainer, although he never wanted to be one at first.
🎲 If your OC played a pen and paper RPG, what class would they pick? Warrior, mage, thief, ranger, cleric, paladin, druid, necromancer, bard (or other, if that’s not enough).
I'd say Warrior or Assassin, for how his time in Ultra space left him.
🌈 Does your OC speak more than one language? If so, how many and which?
He does! He speaks four: English, Spanish (Paldean), French (Kalosian), Japanese (Johto) and "Hawaiian" (Alola). This last one just a bit, since in the region only a few talk it at it´s fullest.
👎 Is there someone your OC can’t stand, despite them being on the same side or sharing basic values?
Oh, definitly Crescent. They both HATE each other. Also, he hate with all his heart and soul Spacea and Tempa. There´s also Madame X. I´ll say Geara too, but just for being annoying.
📚 Your OC has to improvise a 10 minute lecture about a topic of their choosing. What do they chose?
The Theory of Evolution, no doubt about it. But in Pokémon, lol.
🎨 Does your OC have any craft skill, as a hobby or profession? If so which?
He´s a Pokémon Professor. As for any hobby, not many, just research and read.
🤝 Does your OC have someone they want at their side when they are scared? Who?
Oh wow, sad time.
His friends, more than anything else, or his brothers. Sun is not much to be scared of, unless it is from a vivid nightmare. Unfortunately, he is already used to them.
🎭 What is the one thing your OC regrets most? Would they undo it, considering how their life turned out?
His strength.
That's what caught Spacea and Tiempa's attention in the first place, which ended with him being imprisoned in Ultra Space.
Basically, he regrets being a Trainer.
But no. He wouldn't undo it.
🔪 What does your OC think how they’ll die?
Sun is immortal. He can´t die of old age, sickness or any other way. Due to the "mutation" he and Helios suffered in Ultraspace, they´re linked in heart and soul. What one feels, the other does. It´s a symbiotic relationship taken to the extreme, and as long as one lives, the other will. He thinks he´s doomed to eternal life.
📅 If your OC had one day left to live, how would they spend it?
With his Pokémon, and his brothers.
Sadly, he can´t meet with his friends back in his timeline.
Thanks for asking, Val!

Talk about the AoU references people aren't catching in the already-posted chapters of Horizon?
Oh, the big one is something that's in the current chapter in progress, and because that's a later-chapters reveal... *hands* People are catching some of them (sorry to the person who said "hmm, I've never seen AoU, maybe I should watch it..." I did not expect people to watch AoU, lol, I expected people to go, "ooh, maybe I should watch The Incredible Hulk" for context on Betty and Sterns.)
The biggest one is Madame B, who is kind of a tough case because she's never named onscreen in AoU -- she's the Red Room trainer who Natasha sees in her Wanda-induced vision. I didn't want to explicitly say "Madame B" in Horizon because it's just kind of an awkward title/name, so she's only referred to as "Madame," no B, but she's the same character. Since she doesn't appear or come up at all in Black Widow I'm doing some backfill on how Natasha's Red Room experience differed from what we see in BW and how Madame played in. She was planned to be the big bad from almost as soon as I started working on this story as a chaptered, plotted story, as a movie villain who had very little screen time but was not explicitly dead, and using her means I had a direct tie to Natasha. This was always going to be a story about the super soldier serum as soon as I decided not to use a Thor villain; it was "who's a character who's unaccounted for right now who could be in a position to pull in Sterns and Hammer," who are two other characters I wanted to use from very early on. Using her lets me deal with a lot of Natasha's unaddressed Red Room trauma, including the stuff from AoU that is apparently not consistent with BW. (I was a little worried people would think she's supposed to be Madame Hydra, who's a comics villain who has appeared in, I think AoS in one form, and Valentina in Phase Four is supposed to be Madame Hydra even if she hasn't used that name. She's not; she's Red Room, even if she has some as-of-yet-unrevealed backstory with HYDRA.)
(At one point I considered using a character from Thor's rogues gallery, when it was going to be more Loki-focused, but that was discarded in the planning stages; I wanted to use a movie character and I wanted to use a character who was from an Earth characters rogues gallery, because part of this story is Loki having to function as an Avenger dealing with villains who are, in all honesty, well below his weight class in terms of power.)
Tumblr media
The Hammer-adapted Ultron-bots are explicitly mentioned; they're not identical to the ones in AoU but they're mostly a red herring for the characters as well as the audience. (You can tell they're weaker than the Ultron-bots from AoU because Steve's actually punching straight through them, which he doesn't do in AoU.)
There are a handful of dialogue references to AoU -- one of the things I really like to do as a fic writer is to bring relevance back to stories that can get swept under the rug by canon, regardless of my actual feelings for them. So Steve has the "well, maybe Ultron was right" about "maybe I don't know how to live without a war" line in 5; the Hulk-Widow Natasha fights pulls a couple of lines that are meant to invoke Natasha's vision-conversation with Madame B -- the "sloppy" and the "you have no place in the world" are both from that vision.
More explicitly there's Natasha's conversation with Bruce and Betty about her brief relationship with Bruce -- there was actually supposed to be a Bruce and Natasha conversation about that in 7 that didn't end up fitting there, so hopefully I'll get in later, maybe in 10. With Bruce, it's also -- he has not been on Earth since AoU. That is his last point of reference to...everything, and everything changed between AoU and when he returns in IW.
Thor and Selvig's trip to the Water of Sight is referenced in this last chapter -- that was one I had to do a bunch of checks on, because I couldn't remember what was from the cut extended version and what was in the actual film, and I wanted to use what was on the actual screen; they're not consistent with each other.
Madame's the biggest one. There's characterization stuff with Nat and Steve and Bruce and to a lesser extent Tony (a lot of his dialogue in his return-to-Earth scene is straight from Endgame and that calls back to AoU), because I don't not think it's consistent with them even if it's not, like, ideal in terms of my characterization for all of them, but that's what it is. I knew almost no one was going to get Madame without me saying so because she appears for like fifteen seconds in a scene that people don't like in a film that people don't like. A few people did.
The thing I was checking today was actually a setting thing, which is potentially something that readers could recognize; like, it's going to be A Reveal but it's the kind of reveal where readers can go "oh, I should have realized because XYZ," so it's fine if people recognize it, I just don't want to say it in advance. And that's from AoU; it's definitely recognizable if one remembers the physical geography of the film. It's also very lightly hinted at in previous chapters, but it's not supposed to be recognizable earlier.

Chapter 2: An S-Class Assistant
Ariella’s shop reminds me of Madame Freesia’s: the peachy-pink walls, the bubbly pop music playing in the storefront. She even sells perfume, although it’s geared towards the Pokémon rather than her human clients. Sitting in her pink office, I have to stop myself from expecting Madame Freesia to burst in and tell me we’re not getting enough likes online. Instead, I look at Ariella as she goes over the notes from our interview.
Only a couple of years older than me, Ariella has a bright joy to her, which has given her a good reputation in town. From the bouncy blonde curls on her head to the Emolga pins connecting her shirt collar, she seems more of a yellow person than the peach she surrounds herself with. Letting my eyes soften, the light around her confirms this. A sparkly yellow shimmers around her. I turn it off as she lifts her head to look at me.
“Now, I said I didn’t want you to wait for an answer,” she says with a smile. “I know how nerve-wracking it can be to wait for a job offer, so let’s go over what I’ve heard and seen from you.”
I nod. “Okay.”
She puts down her notes. “Well, it’s clear from your CV and your former employer’s social media that you’re a hard worker with an eye for detail. You’ve also got a very professional vibe to you, and based on your outfit—your deep blue waistcoat and pants really make your hair and eyes pop, by the way—you have a sense of style, too. That doesn't seem all that important when working with Pokémon, but believe me, our clients appreciate a well-dressed Connaisseuse. As for your referrals: they’re glowing. It’s hard to argue when the Castelia branch of the Connoisseur Association itself recommends you.”
“Thank you,” I say, but a sinking feeling starts in my stomach. Ariella’s eyebrows knit together, and eyes take on an apologetic look.
“Unfortunately,” she continues, “I’m not sure you’d be a good fit here. While I think you’ll be great as an assistant, I’m looking for someone with a little more experience. There’s also the fact that you don’t have a partner Pokémon—there’s nothing wrong with not having a partner, of course. Lots of people don’t. It’s just that my clientele come here not just for evaluations, but to connect with other trainers. Not having a Pokémon of your own means that your advice will be limited and even mistrusted, even with your family’s reputation in town. I just see this having a bad effect on the business, not having a partner. You understand, right?”
I take a deep breath, then nod, regardless of my real feelings. “I understand. Thank you for the interview, Ariella.”
“Thank you for coming in. Consider this a practice interview before your big break, okay? I’ll walk you out.” As she stands up from the other side of her desk, she puts her arm out. Her Emolga flies out of a box on a nearby shelf and onto her arm, before settling on her shoulder. We walk out of the office.
“Now, don’t get discouraged,” she says as we reach the door. “Nacrene City is nowhere near the size of Castelia City, but there are still plenty of Connoisseurs who might want to hire you, and there’s always your communications work to fall back on. There isn’t a shop out here that wouldn’t hire you for social media management.”
I try not to look too incredulous. Emolga chatters from her shoulder, the swift twitching of his tail telling me that he’s annoyed with what she said. I think he’s scolding her. Ariella simply pats his head and goes back into her shop.
Well, at least someone was listening during the interview.
--
“How many shops is this now?” Dye asks as she sips her latte.
Café Warehouse is bustling, the lunch rush just getting started. The diner’s waitstaff rush by, dropping off meals so quickly that I’m sure the only thing they notice is which table the plates go to. The owner’s Reuniclus uses Psychic to hand out delivery and pickup orders at the counter. In the constant movement, the various flashes of lights go by, and I can just barely turn each one off. I realize that Dye’s waiting for an answer and turn back to her.
“Four now,” I say, taking a bite out of my spinach quiche. “All for the same reasons: lack of experience and lack of a partner.”
“It’s just unbelievable that all of them have the same excuses.” She crosses her arms, and despite chopping her hair off ages ago, she still looks like the little girl I befriended in preschool, the one who pouted and tossed her long brown hair around every time the swings were taken on the playground. I try not to laugh.
“It’s out of my hands, as much as it annoys us both,” I say, trying to sound even-tempered despite my own frustration. “Many Connoisseurs prefer hiring B-Class because they have more experience evaluating than C-Class. As for having a partner Pokémon, those without one are less likely to be hired to receive the experience needed to advance to the next level.”
“Where’d you hear that?” Dye reaches for her latte and realizes she’s run out.
My Rotom-phone flashes awake and levitates into our line of sight. An article comes up on the screen.
“It’s all in the Connoisseur Association’s trade magazine. Passing any class’s assessment comes with a six-month subscription. The most recent edition is all about the basics of Connoisseurship, from hiring to fee to professional style guides.”
“Please tell me you didn’t read the entire thing already.” Dye looks disappointed, as if she had no idea that I’m a nerd who reads absolutely everything after all the years we’ve known each other.
“There wasn’t much else to do on the train ride to town.” I take a few more bites of my quiche. “The point is that C-Class Connoisseurs don’t seem to have enough experience to be truly helpful in a shop setting, so they’re usually hobbyists who study for the B-Class assessment before trying to get into shops. At least, that’s the current way people do it.”
“And the partner nonsense?”
“For many clients, a Connoisseur without a Pokémon seems sketchy, as if you yourself can’t handle a Pokémon, so why should they trust you to know how to help them? As a C-Class Connaisseuse, it would initially seem to be a non-issue. It’s not like I’d be evaluating them, but for many, it feels like that. They want a full team of trainers to ensure that we’re knowledgeable enough to work with them.”
“So, it sounds like the only thing you can do is find a partner. Aren’t Connoisseurs supposed to help with that? Why haven’t the others when you interviewed with them?”
“They want their money for something like that. They’re not just going to determine what Pokémon I should catch just because I’m a beginner or because I would make a good assistant to them.”
Our waitress brings us our receipt, so we get up to pay (and to clear the space for whoever’s next in the long line forming at the front). Dye turns back to me.
“So, what are you going to do about this?”
I put on my denim jacket and focus on turning off everyone’s lights. It’s all I can do to keep the stress from paralyzing me.
“I’ll come up with something.”
--
Carlos walks me to the door of his Connoisseur shop, something I’ve gotten used to over the past couple of weeks. He wipes his bald head with a red handkerchief.
“I really am sorry, Nettie,” he says for the third time in a row. “I just need someone with experience raising Pokémon. While being your aunt’s niece helps, it’s not quite the same thing as raising your own.”
I raise an eyebrow at that last part, but I put it down before I turn around to face him.
“I understand,” I say as I step out the door. “Thank you for the interview.”
As I turn out onto the street, Aunt Lenora and Uncle Hawes are waiting, Casteliacones in hand.
“Your aunt and I figured that, no matter what happened, you could probably use this.” Uncle Hawes hands me a cone, then points across the street to the park.
“It drives me crazy,” I groan, once we find a stone table to sit at. “Between all of them telling me that I’ll always have communications to fall back on and then bringing up you guys or my siblings—when I don’t even mention anyone, not even in my CV—it’s like I’m having the same interview over and over!”
“Certainly sounds like it, Nettie,” Aunt Lenora says in between her ice cream. “It’s hard to get to know who someone is now and what kind of Connaisseuse someone could be when all you’re focused on is who someone was and how they fit into their family. It shows a real lack of curiosity on their part.”
“At the end of the day, I can’t get more experience if no one’s willing to take a chance with me.” I finish my Casteliacone, hardly savoring its flavor.
“What about getting a partner Pokémon?” Uncle Hawes asks. “Would getting a partner increase your chances of getting hired?”
“It would, but I don’t even know what to catch. There are so many Pokémon to pick from in the region alone, and since I’m no longer eligible to get a starter Pokémon, I have to find a partner for myself.” The thought of going out and trying to catch something, especially without a Pokémon to help me, makes my stomach turn. It wouldn’t be safe to go alone, even if the wild Pokémon I find have lower levels.
“I don’t believe I’ve ever asked you this,” Aunt Lenora starts, “but why didn’t you get a Pokémon before?”
I pause for a moment. “I guess, when you grow up in a family full of trainers who have full teams, I guess it feels like you have lots of Pokémon around.”
Uncle Hawes nods. “As if they’re yours, too. I can see how that would happen, and with the variety of Pokémon, I’m sure it’s easy to get overwhelmed. If you’re not sure what you’d be looking for, getting assistance from a Connoisseur with more experience would be a good idea. Although I imagine you wouldn’t feel comfortable going to the Connoisseurs you interviewed with for help.”
“They know their work, but no, I don’t think I’d bring my business to them.” I try to think of another local Connoisseur to go to, but I draw a blank. I’ll have to check my list again.
“I hope you find a position soon, Nettie,” Aunt Lenora says. “I know that work can just be work, but I haven’t seen you so determined to do something in a long time. It’s good to see that spark in your eyes, even if you’re frustrated.”
Uncle Hawes checks his watch and stands up quickly. “Dear, the new exhibit should be here shortly. We should head back.”
“Oh, shoot, I almost forgot.” She gets up, too. “Keep your head up, Nettie, and we’ll see you at family dinner if we don’t see you beforehand.”
The two of them rush off in the direction of the museum. I stay put in the park, my elbows resting on the table as I cradle my head in my hands.
What kind of Pokémon would I want?
--
The afternoon is fading, and I’m not sure there’s much else I can do today, besides going home and filling out more applications. Looking over the list of Connoisseurs in the area, I stop walking as it dawns on me: there aren’t any other shops in town. All the energy drains out of me. I plop down on the nearest bench.
When I came home to Nacrene City, I was excited to be with family and friends again and to find work as a Connaisseuse, even if it’s just an assistant position. Now the same feeling of being lost that I felt in Castelia City comes racing back.
What do I do now?
A strong, cold wind whips through the street. I turn my body away from the chill, and in the midst of its whistling, the screeching of a metal sign swinging wildly catches my attention. Right across the street from the bench, on the corner of the intersection, a cast iron sign settles back into place, revealing the Connoisseur Association insignia. I walk across to get a better view.
I look up at the sign and notice that a name wraps around the insignia. Neil Nouveau. Turning to the glass door, the insignia and name appear there as well, alongside a bit of information that makes my eyes go wide: S-Class Connoisseur. S-Class is the highest level a Connoisseur can reach, the best of the best. To see that such an expert decided to set up shop here in Nacrene City—I’m shocked.
I peek inside through the door. The interior is quiet, almost empty, save for the large green plants by the windows and the soft-looking green armchairs that sit in pairs around the main floor. The walls are a bright white, but the dark wood of the floors, wraparound balcony, and beams keep it from being blinding. A spiral staircase in the far corner leads up to shelves full of books, likely either for decoration or for beginners guides for each species of Pokémon. The whole place looks so pristine that it’s clear that this Neil Nouveau just moved in.
I check the online list of Connoisseurs, both to see if this is real and to see if he’s looking for an assistant. I scroll down and quickly find his name, alongside a similar one…
“Excuse me.” A gruff voice makes me jump and turn.
A guy with graying, blond hair and a sharp but exhausted gaze looks at me, as if I’m inconveniencing him. Based on his outfit—the starched shirt, the purple waistcoat, the bowtie emblazoned with the Connoisseur Association insignia—I can tell that this is Neil Nouveau.
“Sorry.” I move away from the front door.
Neil unlocks the door and walks inside. He looks back at me.
“Are you coming in?” he asks, his voice as exhausted as his expression. “Beats standing out here and staring in.”
My face heats up, but this is my last chance to find work in a Connoisseur shop. I walk in with my CV ready.
“Mr. Nouveau—” I start, but he puts his hand up.
“Miss Sweets,” he says, as he pulls a cookie tin from behind the dark counter. He hands me the tin, swiftly pulls a Pokéball and tosses it over his shoulder. With the typical flash that all Pokéballs come with, a Delcatty emerges and kicks their ball back to their partner’s waiting hand.
“Wow.” The word slips out of my mouth.
“It’s a trick I learned in another region,” Neil says as he points to a pair of armchairs and a side table. “It’s simple but fluid, and it impresses clients. Go on and sit. Help yourself to the tin. I’m making tea.”
I sit down in a chair and get comfortable. The tin, unlike so many I’ve seen and checked at Grandma’s house, has small shortbread cookies inside. They’re shaped in rings and stars. I take a few in my hand and put the tin on the table between the chairs.
Neil comes back with his waistcoat unbuttoned and shirt sleeves rolled to his elbows. He still looks…rough, the same way anyone would look if they stayed up two days in a row, but he seems more relaxed. He puts two teacups on the table, settles into the chair opposite my own, and takes a big sigh. Delcatty lays out on his feet.
“I’ve heard about you, Miss Sweets,” he starts. “There isn’t an A-Class Connoisseur in town who hasn’t mentioned you during my introductions with them. The former gym leader’s niece is a Connaisseuse. Talked about your whole family, too, as if that should have any bearing on whether you get hired. Now, are you here hoping I’ll hire you?”
“To be honest, I just stumbled on your shop,” I say, like an idiot. Why tell him how I found out about him?
He nods and sips his tea. “So you’re sitting here just because? No, that’s not it. I saw a spark in your eye when you walked through the door. You may have found this place by accident, but right there at the door you decided to try your luck without an appointment. Does that sound right?”
I nod. “I suppose that’s true.”
“Good.” He dips a shortbread cookie in his tea. “Now, kindly tell me why I should hire you.”
“Oh, well, I’m detail-oriented, I’m used to working with short timelines—” I stop when Neil waves his hand at me.
“No, no, that’s not what I’m asking for. There isn’t a job out there that doesn’t look for answers like that. I want to know why you got into this. Why are you a Connaisseuse? Why do you want to work with Pokémon? What will tell me that you’re a good fit for the work that Connoisseurs are known for?”
For some reason, this question stumps me. It’s so simple that I should have an answer for it. None of the other Connoisseurs had asked me this, despite it being such a simple question. I don’t even know why I can’t answer this. Why did I do this?
Delcatty mews at Neil’s feet, drawing my eyes to him. A deep purple light wraps around him, and looking back up, Neil has the same light. A word comes to mind: truth. Neil sips from his cup.
“Do you have an answer for me?” Neil asks. “I should let you know that I asked the other Connoisseurs what they asked in their interviews, and they seemed to have forgotten this question. Or they didn’t think to ask in the first place. If you don’t have an answer, just say so.”
“It’s not a great answer,” I start after a minute. “I was originally just looking for a way out of a job that made me unhappy. I spent my days staring at a screen in a little office wondering if that was all my professional life could be. I knew that I didn’t want to spend a third of every weekday on the clock in a place where I was unappreciated, bored, and alone. I had always loved Pokémon, but because I didn’t want to be a gym challenger or a coordinator, I decided to go down a route that I knew would be financially secure. I figured that I could get a Pokémon and be a trainer in my free time. But then three years went by, and I was still miserable and didn’t have the time or energy to care for a partner. I thought that being a Connaisseuse would give me a new path that could make me happy, but without a place to learn more about the work, it hasn’t been easy.”
Neil sits up in his chair. “So this is about personal fulfilment? You wanted to become a Connaisseuse because you thought it would make you happier?”
I nod. “Yes.”
Delcatty purrs. Neil smirks and puts his teacup on the side table.
“Well then, Miss Sweets,” he says. “I thank you for your honesty. I think that you have great potential as a Connaisseuse, given everything that I heard before meeting you. The fact that you don’t have a partner is irrelevant to me—a skilled Connoisseur typically provides a partner to their assistant after a time. If a Connoisseur ever has a problem with a potential hire not having a partner, they’re most likely younger. Such a tradition has fallen out of favor because many feel that they should only use their skills for payment. They’re not wrong for wanting their money, but any good assistant should be invested in.”
“Wait, does that mean I’m getting the job?” I ask. It immediately sounds ridiculous coming out of my mouth, but he hasn’t said no yet.
“It means that I appreciate your answer. Honestly, you’d probably be better off traveling and experiencing different regions and Pokémon and taking the higher assessments whenever you’re back in the area, but if you want to stay here and work, I’d be more than happy to have you as my assistant.”
“Really?!” I sit up in the chair so fast Delcatty hops up and jogs away.
Neil laughs. “You bet. I’ve seen and heard too many horror stories of Connoisseurs wanting to change the world or be the very best at this, only to abandon their personalities as soon as they enter a shop and work until they’re miserable and leave the field. Your motivation, however, is more in your control than whether or not you make a big impact. You want to make sure that what you do is enjoyable to you, which means that you’ll most likely bring your personality to your work and attract clients you connect with. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to make a change in your environment, but I believe such a change begins within, not solely with clients. Focusing on what makes you happy and fulfilled is a good start down that road.”
“Thank you, Mr. Nouveau.”
Neil shudders. “Never call me that. My first name will be fine.”
We walk to the door, but this time it’s different. I’m smiling, and there’s no long apology coming my way.
“I’ll see you tomorrow to go over the paperwork and things like that. Once everything’s squared away, you’ll start next week. Get some rest, get things tailored as needed, and don’t stress about getting a partner Pokémon.”
I turn around again. “Thanks again, Neil.”
He shrugs, and then reaches down to pet his Delcatty’s head. “Never thank me for what you did. I just asked the questions.”
He closes the door as he goes back in, and I take the opportunity to dance a bit in the street, before heading home.

Well, Chapter 2 is finally up. I had planned on getting it out before the Indigo Disk part of the DLC came out, but life got in the way. I'll be working on Chapter 3, but don't expect it until after New Year's. For now, I'm going to take a much-needed rest. I hope you enjoyed this chapter!

I'm Surviving My College Class by Making a Madame Bovary Pokemon AU
Amongst other things.
For people who have never taken a college literature class, Madame Bovary is a novel about a woman who marries the stupidest doctor in all the land, has two different affairs, never finds fulfillment, buys a bunch of shit to make herself feel richer, drags her family into debt, and then commits suicide to escape it. Her husband never figures out even half of it until the last chapter.
I'm going under the assumption that- in this AU- most people only have enough money to care for one Pokemon. Exception being the Bovary family- as Emma's Pokemon came with her into the marriage- and a character I believe could afford to feed two.
Emma Bovary- F Eevee -> Leafeon. She popped up on the farm fairly recently, eating whatever she could find. Emma hoped she would become a Sylveon or Espeon- perhaps an Umbreon under the full moon. None of these things happen because she moves to Yonville (that's the town's actual canonical name). It is known for its agriculture, so Eevee- influenced by this environment- evolves into a Leafeon. She becomes yet another symbol of the life Emma hates, and she eventually disowns the Pokemon. Brokenhearted, Leafeon's leaves slowly turn orange. Unlike her mistress, she survives (because I am not that evil) but is a broken-hearted- if rare- autumn variant. However...
Bethe Bovary- F Leafeon (autumn variant). This is the same one mentioned above, who returns and protects her mistress's daughter. Bethe is a baby in the actual book, but in this AU, I wanted to go a little further in time to her childhood. She appreciates Leafeon more than her mother did. While her leaves never heal, her heart does.
Charles Bovary- M Slowpoke -> Slowbro. All you need to know about this man is he is an insufferable dumbass, who can't even tell his wife is cheating on him and leaking all their money. He heard while in medical school that Slowpoke is good for treating illness with its psychic powers (source- the rumor mill, made of other students). Because he's too much of an idiot to figure out trade evolutions, he couldn't evolve Slowpoke into a Slowking. Slowbro is cheerful and helpful, but kinda dumb, and definitely useless in medical situations.
Lheureux- M Alolan Meowth. The only winner in the story, a task he succeeds at by putting the Bovarys in serious debt. A Meowth was the only Pokemon that made any sense. He mostly sulks around, playing with whatever coins his Trainer happens to drop. I chose Alolan Meowth because you're telling me this man wouldn't have a Dark-type? Speaking of...
Rodolphe: F Liepard and M Murkrow. This guy's just an asshole. He's affair number two, and leads Emma along until he realizes that she's a human with flaws. Liepard is his main Pokemon- a former show mon who looks pretty and fierce, but doesn't battle well. Murkrow is used for delivering letters and packages.
Homais: M Loudred. These two literally have the same personality. Loudred agrees with everything Homais says. Even if you can't understand him, he makes sure everyone in Yonville can hear his approval. Kinda like Slowbro, but Slowbro is benign while this guy can break windows.
Leon: M Vulpix -> Ninetales. Affair number 1. He was hard to pick a Pokemon for. But I was thinking of Fire-types (because of a certain Galarian champion) and selected for Vulpix. This man believes he's a romantic, but is actually rather self-absorbed. He still manages to treat Vulpix well. There's a point where he nopes off to another town, where he comes across a Fire Stone. By the time he comes back into the story, Vulpix has evolved. He is furiously protective of his Trainer.
Hippolyte: M Bonsly -> Sudowoodo. Not a major character, but I LOVE therapy Pokemon. In the actual book, Hippolyte is subject to a surgery to cure club foot, despite being able to walk fine. It goes wonky and he loses his leg. It is shortly after this that he encounters Bonsly. With love and care, it becomes Sudowoodo. Sudowoodo serves as a makeshift cane, helping his Trainer get around.
Beggar: M Gastly. Also not a major character, but I wanted to give him a Ghost-type to sing creepy songs with.
