Probably finalized designs for my Chaos Quest au! I love how these look! I'm going to talk about it now because it plagues my mind every second. So if you want more info read below! vvv

Chaos Quest is my au of Sonic which is basically set in a fantasy rpg! These five are the main "heroes" of the story with other side stories that tie into the overall story. The gist is the Master Crystal has been shattered and a prophesied hero must gather them along with the 7 Chaos Crystals to unite the 7 kingdoms and defeat an evil darkness plaguing the land. Very tropey but I love rpg tropes. :)

Below is some basic info about each character. vvv

there are probably typos and weird wording because my proofreader isn't with me atm so bear with me

~Sonic~

Class: fighter

Weapon: Ringblade - Multi-blade (can be a single blade, propeller sword, or dual sword)

Icon element: wind

Backstory: found alone and unconscious on the beach of South Island, Sonic was adopted into the Prower family with Tails becoming his little brother. He remembers little, but doesn’t let that bother him much. Sonic and Tails enjoy helping other islanders with menial tasks and taking care of occasional monster appearances. One day a storm wreaks havoc on South Island and Sonic hears a mysterious voice.

~Tails~

Class: artificer

Weapon: Cyclone Cannon (powered by chaos drives)

Icon element: lightning

Backstory: Tails was bullied for his abnormality of two tails but his new brother put an end to that quickly. He and Sonic quickly bonded after Sonic was adopted into their family. Despite being a little bit anti-social, he loves helping his neighbors with inventions and testing them out by fighting monsters. He usually follows along with Sonic’s adventures, but some seem crazier than others.

He can be timid and anti-social but he is ready to help where he can. Despite his gentle heart he had a habit of giving sarcastic remarks. He is very intelligent, but lacks street smarts and is very naive about the world.

~Knuckles~

Class: Brawler

Weapon: Iron Arms

Icon element: earth

Backstory: After his parents died, Knuckles was left alone on the floating Angel Island. He takes care of the creatures and old ruins of his ancestors. His sole duty is to keep guard of the Master Crystal. He often prays and calls out to the spirits of the island but no one answers back. One day strange shadowy monsters attack the island and shatter the Master Crystal, causing the shards to scatter into the world. Without the Master Crystal, the island falls and Knuckles is left calling to his ancestors to find out what to do.

~Amy~

Class: Paladin

Weapon: Heart Smasher

Icon element: fire

Backstory: Amy grew up with a great sense of care for others, that’s why she joined the Heroes Guild. Despite her drive to help others, she is often underestimated and taken advantage of, which is why she hasn’t advanced in the ranks. She often takes circumstances at face value and sometimes it can get her in trouble. She still takes every small task she can if she believes it will make a difference. When Sonic and his party arrive in Stella City, Amy convinces them to join her so she can ascend the ranks help them with their quest.

~Cream~

Class: healer

Weapon: Angel Staff, Cheese the Chao

Icon Element: water

Backstory: Cream and her mother Vanilla manage a chao dragon reserve outside of Stella City. Her soft and kind heart for everyone pushed her to join the Heroes Guild with her best friend Amy. She’s usually the voice of reason for Amy when her ambitions outgrow her capabilities.

Yeah sure! This is in reference to this and this posts.

These are all pretty 'fic style' stories, because they scaffold off pre-existing canon. It's like you're walking inside of a pre-built house and you're putting up new wallpaper and designing the rooms. Novel style is like if you're building the entire house. So these are really great for fun and if you have writer's block or have problems starting a story. They're also really good if you're practicing your dialogue, scene composition, characterization, etc - they are not good for developing skills on how to build the house, but if you're trying to work on actually making a readable story they're great methods to practice. They're also a lot easier to make good lol.

While writing these out I realized that they're almost entirely AUs. This is because I like AUs. You don't have to do AUs, you can adapt these however you want if you just like writing canon. Loser. Anyway, these are my low-effort stories:

A series of disconnected scenes that take place over a long period of time. If you have an idea in mind (or you just want to use the OG work's timeline), then you can show scenes or moments over a long period in time. For example, ages ago I wrote an AU story following the life of one character. One scene for 2008, one for 2010, one for 2012 etc.

Rewriting canon. If you have an AU idea or have a way in mind to change canon to something you think fucks harder, then you can use pre-existing episodes or season plotlines and just add your own flavor to what already exists. If you write for BNHA you aren't allowed to do this. That's the rule. How is all BNHA fic 600k AUs where one extremely minor detail is changed. God they're boring.

Alternate viewpoint/missing scene of a story you have. Like you can do this for canon too but that sounds super boring. This is actually something I do in order to help the quality of the main story - if I'm finding myself writing a super complicated character, I write another story about him from his POV to help give me a handle on him. Or write her parts of the story from her perspective. It's a writing exercise to help me figure out the character and it is also easy and fun.

"X Meets Y". Do you really like Legally Blonde? Do you think your favorite character being Elle Woods would be really funny? Stuff like that. Would it be really funny if your blorbo was Sharpay Evans? Yes it would be. Yeah I DID write a story many years ago that was "X meets Teen Beach Movie", why?

I don't know how many other people out there have extremely convoluted entire AU ideas, but if you have the whole AU in your mind then it is incredibly easy to write little stories or snippets from the AU. Like, so easy. A stand-out scene in your mind, the life of one supporting character, an alternate POV, whatever. Literally whenever I want to write something absolutely 0 effort whatsoever I go back to one of my 3 bugfuck stupid AUs and write something for them again.

This is actually something I think everybody should do, because it is basically how I learned story structure: find the trashiest, most formulaic genre you can. Watch or read something from that genre, or just collect genre conventions. Use the pre-packaged and pre-written formula to structure your own story and fill in the blanks.

(Also, these aren't very tropey or reliant on shipping/romance beats, which is nice if you want to get away from that stuff)

Nowadays, I find all of that helpful when I feel like doing something 0 effort. When I was a less experienced writer and I deadass did not know how to build a house, then these were really helpful for learning what wallpaper looks good and what arrangement of furniture creates good fung shui and what couches go best with that coffee table. They're also good passing. Seriously, these are like the most popular stories on my AO3. People eat this shit up. Why. They're so lazy.

IDK, these are what I do because they're the kinds of stories I like to write! What you find easy to write will be different. This is all a very personal list. I can see my personal thumbprint (no romance, AU central) really clearly. I'm kind of curious now: what are y'all's favorite low-effort, easy, fun stories to write?

Also as a heads up if your story doesn't have any sort of conflict in it, then it will actually very difficult to write. Trust me. Conflict makes you voom. Do it. Please. Love of god.

Booasaur, I've finally burnt myself out with the Cruz x Aaliyah hotness. Fan fics are picking up, good to see. But I feel like we need some levity from the heavier themes from the show. Like one shots of Cruz and Aaliyah just dancing to a Whitney song or something. Karaoke? Cruz never had the chance to really just enjoy lighter things in life. The magic happens in these small moments. Aaliyah being a socialite, does she even know how to boil an egg :D

Aww, it's still so soon after the finale, where things were left in such an angsty place! I totally get if people want to explore that more, and even wanting to fix it requires first getting into the muck.

You know, I actually expected people to go for more AUs, partly because they ALREADY seem like the end result of someone taking a more mundane ship and trying out a tropey spy/target angsty messy smutty feelingsy kinda AU. So like, Glee fics got this kind of AU, Clexa got high school AUs, so here, you'd get to see these two falling in love without all the possible death around every corner.

Buuuut, even when it comes to that, angst is baked into their backgrounds? In the same way that even high school/college Clexa fics would have Clarke's dad be dead and Lexa an orphan, you can't get away from the circumstances that create the characters, and what created them being what now draws them together. Cruz is still gonna be tough, Aaliyah's still gonna be trapped, both still so lonely.

To go back to your point, though, for sure, the lighter one shots have their place! Not just Aaliyah learning how to boil an egg, Cruz could teach her how to drive, as the show mentioned, or perhaps self defense, given her fears of being kidnapped and of course all the other benefits. It's actually just another tragedy in a whole list that it's so difficult to imagine a scenario where they're light-heartedly enjoying themselves, when that's actually a big part of their relationship, just chatting and joking around on the beach, for example, or watching movies during the sleepover.

I have confidence that we'll see more like that, though! People just gotta work out their feelings first. :o

alright so at first I thought it would be hard to pick only my fave five but it was surprisingly easy? :))) I think I picked the ones that I still look back at and think wow, how did I come up with all of that?

Seeking Companionship is a 616 epistolary fic which I really hoped more people would read because it's just pure joy to read if I say so myself, it's funny and engaging and I really like how I've managed to get their tones in writing letters in 1980s, and there is some innuendo and some raw insecurities and self-worth issues and of course a happy ending, all told in letters. oh and ID porn of course! (Rated T, 4.2k words)

Restless Gravity is my first RBB, a sci-fi omegaverse arranged marriage fic with omega Tony and warlord Steve in space, an AU of X-Factor 231, where Steve is a scary humanoid who is known for hating humans. I just have no idea how I came up with many of those ideas and images, and I really love the part of the fic where Tony transitions from 'I have to live with this thing' to him deciding that 'he seems to be very decent and I think I'm falling for him'. I just love that universe, I always think if I ever turn any of my fics into an original this would be the perfect candidate :) oh it also has ID porn, and amnesia. super tropey :) (Rated M, 10k)

Love of Inconvenience is an MCU arranged marriage, omegaverse, historical AU from 1920 happening near where I live in Australia, in a place called Fort Nepean which was the place where the first shot fired by the British Empire in World War I. It has a quarantine station and a beach and as soon I set foot in it, I was like yes, a small immigrant Steve fic with gun installer Tony. I just love the world of this fic, and the way they're so breathtakingly gone for each other but each think there is no way the other wants them for real. I actually made the mutual pining so real that I was unable to actually fix it for like a year before I finally managed to write the ending to this little thing :) (Rated T, 4.8 k)

Unintended Side Effects an MCU medkink fic, with bottom Steve and young Dr. Stark, with and ID twist that left all the commenters in awe (I'm not making this up, you can go check the comments :)) ), written for your birthday. to this day, I can't really figure out how I put so many words together about a...well... about the thing that happened in the fic. but I did, and I'm so glad that it exists because it's a rather niche kink and by the steady stream of readers that check it out 3 years later, I guess our people are also happy that it exists. (Rated E, 9k)

Quarantined Together an MCU canon adjacent AU about Steve and Tony hooking up one night and being forced to quarantine together for 14 days, with lots and lots of porn and lots and lots of fluff, which was intended to be a soft escape from the terrible times it was being written in. I'm really proud of it, both because I wrote and finished a long fic, and also because of the crazy concepts I put into it and I think they mostly worked in context, like the way I love yous were said, or the double ID porn roleplay. (Rated E, 40k)

3. What are some tropes or details that you think are very characteristic of your fics?

Usually grief and/or recovery figure somewhere in what I'm writing. Survival, too. I gravitate towards main characters who need to come into their own in some fashion throughout the story. Maybe they are already badass at some things, but they're shying away from that potential for Reasons to be revealed (like my Tav, Naomi), or the skill set they do have isn't the one they need for their circumstances (like my SoSu, Natasha, who initially can't shoot for shit). I enjoy showing the struggle and build over time of those characters making choices and developing different abilities that lead them to becoming altogether different people than who they used to be.

I think my writing style tends be very sensory/immersive. If the scene is on a beach, I want you to feel the sand under your feet. I think part of that is writing in present tense, which helps put the reader more directly in the moment/situation.

23. What’s a trope, AU, or concept you’ve never written, but would like to?

Fake dating! It seems fun and rife with tropey potential, but I've never been struck by an idea in that vein before, and forcing it feels, well, forced. One day, maybe!

26. Would you rather write a fic that had no dialogue or one that was only dialogue?

Only dialogue! I wouldn't have always answered that way, but I think I'd enjoy writing something like that more, now, than something without any dialogue at all.

In response and to dispel the heavy air between them, George gently shoves Alex so that Alex stumbles closer to the sea and into the sand on the beach. He feels sand fall into his shoes, knows that it is now stuck in his socks and that he won't be able to get it out until he runs them through the washing machine, “George!” He screams indignantly.

🤔What’s a story you’d love to write but haven’t even started yet

From my current ideas doc I really want to write a galex royalty AU entirely based on this gifset and the fact that someone on the tags said it looks like a prince and his knight.

Not really fleshed out except it will probably be modern -ish entirely cause I tend to get too particular with medieval -ish world including high fantasy stuff and I don't have the time and patience rn to create a world I would be satisfied with. Other than that it will hopefully be lighthearted and tropey as shit because I havent written something like that in a while.

Maybe this will be my summer project after timeloop and wag au fest are done... much to think about

Bring on the holiday cheer! This tropey af Hallmark Christmas special AU is exactly as vapid and delightful as it sounds. Or at least, I'm having a ton of fun writing it.

Book Review : One Last Stop, by Casey McQuiston

4/5 stars

(light spoilers)

Alright so this was delightful from start to finish. The concept, first of all, was great - loner college student with a knack for investigation, August, falls in love with badass butch amnesiac from the 70s who is stuck out of time in the New York subway, Jane ; awesome. I find subways fascinating, full of history and spooky vibes and potential encounters and dreary routine and urban poetry (I guess this feeds into my obsession with underground places lmao) and the story made full use of the setting. Plus something about the smut scene in an empty metro carriage at 3 am over the Manhattan Bridge was like !!! ok unrealistic but blablabla women being scared away from public spaces and queer ppl being assaulted in the metro etc etc. beautiful. healing.

the dialogue is funny, the two main characters are interesting and likeable and their chemistry has a lot of electric zing and realness to it. sweet but not desexualized or trying too hard to be 'wholesome'. something about their dynamic of two characters who have drifted between places and have never been able to really put down roots due to complicated family history, finding an anchor in each other (on a moving train no less!) really worked for me. plus points for making the love interest a beautiful, desirable, butch character (and Chinese American as well) bc i feel there is so not enough of those. plus it's nice to have a bi character that's an awkward virgin instead of a Casanova, that's also stereotype breaking. honestly good bi rep.

i also really liked the found family of quirky roommates. overall it's a pretty classic stories of early-twenties coming of age, becoming an adult, learning to let people in, putting down roots, daring to become yourself fully, letting go of your past, etc - but done very well. liked all the nods to queer history as well, how entangled it is with city life, and i loved all the 'missed connections' notes of how Jane made an impression on people throughout the years.

unpopular opinion but i was never the biggest fan of Red White and Royal Blue, found it fun but too tropey, kinda bland, and honestly overrated. (and the Disneyfication of US politics really grating. also i just read too many presidential AU fics that were like. better.) my fave part of it was the character of Nora, the foul mouthed witty friend, and the author went with that sort of tone here, which i think she does very well, plus overall it feels like a more original and fully realized story. (which, again, is just my opinion, but it's again frustrating how little wlw stories get attention compared to mlm ones, etc.) so she's kind of won me over with this one, i might pick up 'I kissed Shara Wheeler' at some point.

a few quibbles that kept it from being an all time fave : i do still find her writing a bit, hm, immature in places, not as evocative as it could be. things do get tied up almost a little too neatly, and the love interest's radical politics feel a bit more like an aesthetic gimmick but the book has a big subplot about saving a landmark diner from gentrification so i'll give that a pass. Regarding August, i am also kind of annoyed that every single shitty parents storyline ends up with 'but they tried their best and we're more alike than we know and we reconcile because family!:!!!' like it would be nice to have characters' happy ending be them enforcing their boundaries and wanting distance for once. but maybe that's not fluffy romance territory idk. Also, the cover is - if not awful, nice colors - too close to boring Canva corporate style, i hate this trend, this could have been so much cooler honestly !!! but none of those things are a big deal.

anyway !! i enjoyed it a lot and as a light, funny romantic beach read it was perfect. definitely goes on my list of fave sapphic romances.

WHAT IF... SANDERS SIDES BUT MAKE IT A TROPEY TEEN BEACH AU

Endgame!LAMP. Dukeceit, Remile

Just 2k stream of consciousness words from a plunny that grew legs TW for v slight underage drinking, one joking mention of violence, and a non-specific discussion of intrusive thoughts

-Janus has just moved there because his parents wanted to start a new "adventure" and he is a Stereotypical Teenager. Very "ugh MOM I wanna go back to my FRIENDS for my LAST SUMMER BEFORE COLLEGE"(most of his friends suck. He should not spend time with them. He does not know this)

His Parents buy him a surfboard and tell him to try it out as a way to get him to Shut Up

Hes a Skater Boy(cue music) so he picks it up super fast from like,,, youtube videos

-He gets told to Get a Job if he wants to like, keep buying surf gear?

All the local kids work at like one restaurant/yacht club type place right on the beach

Janus gets hired as a host

-Logan is a beach badge checker, Patton, Roman, and Remus are beachfront restaurant waiters but Roman just Really Wants To Surf, Emile and Virgil are Lifeguards, and Remy is a bartender

-Janus is Very Good At Customer Service because Fake Smiles

Patton recognizes this Immediately

He shows him the Rage Closet which is a tiny room with an arm chair that locks from the inside where you can punch a pillow on your break when it gets to be Too Much

-Janus is Attached now and there is no getting rid of him

Patton Fully Endorses this and introduces him to the rest of the group

Janus Knows Immediately that LAMP is In Love but says nothing because he aint no snitch

-Remus surfs, but he also always wear a thong while doing it

Roman wears a full wetsuit and somehow still gets Board Rash. Remus is somehow immune and it infuriates him

-Janus, not knowing that the twins live right on the beach cuz they are RichTM: Hey Ree I kinda wanna learn how to surf would you be able to teach me

Remus, who religiously watches Janus surf every morning, but is absolutely willing to play this game: Yeah absolutely

Patton, later: “lets rinse off at the twins they’re right here” Janus: theyre.... What?!

-Meanwhile, elsewhere, Virgil and Roman are double teaming Logan to drag him into the water with them cuz he’s pouting about losing a debate with their manager about how he didn’t really be mean to the dudebro who wanted to get his buddies onto the beach without paying, he was just enforcing the rules. And if the dude was so offended by Logan’s Very Accurate Dragging that he complained to management then, well, that’s his problem not Logan’s

-Logan is never without a book. Ever. And its always a different book. Janus is starting to think he owns a library

One day he is just... reading a Physics textbook. Not taking notes or anything. Just reading.

Roman is Very Very Alarmed by this because he is Gay and Math is Scary

"Roman I'm also gay that is not a determining factor"

"Yeah but you can't drive"

"...fair"

-the first time janus has a shift with the twins, he cant stop staring, not just because hes like,,, super attracted to Remus but also because they are like Chaos Incarnate and yet somehow get the most tips??? He doesn't understand???

It's just cuz they are both Huge Flirts and Flatterers and the patrons dont care that they're not-so-subtly beating the shit out of each other right there on the dining floor because theyre just so charming

-one of the bartenders gets aggressively snapped at by a customer and called "sweetheart" and before Janus can even begin to react Remy is there, sunglasses off, fire in his eyes, telling them to settle their bill and get the fuck out

Janus, used to City Restaurants- "Wont you get in trouble with the owner?!"

Remy, who knows Nothing Else But This- "What?? Not likely I only did it cuz Thomathy wasnt here to do it himself"

-the restaurant is closed Monday and Tuesday so that is the Pseudo Weekend for the staff where everyone hangs out at the beach

Emile and Virgil take Tuesdays off but still work Monday’s cuz they feel better being the one watching over their friends

-Roman, staring at Virgil on the lifeguard stand: ugh he’s so pretty I almost wish I was drowning just so he could give me cpr

Janus: you wanna potentially get your ribs broken just for lip contact?

Remy, staring at Emile on the lifeguard stand: listen, if that’s what it takes, I’ll take it

Remus, immediately going up to the lifeguard stand because he has 0 impulse control: hey my brother and cousin want you to break their ribs

Virgil and Emile: excuse me?????

-Patton will literally spend hours in the water. Logan physically drags him out to put sunscreen on him every two hours to the minute. Patton does not admit that he purposely "forgets" just so Logan will do so

Logan is Dark and has never used sunscreen ever but Patton is so pale and he just gets so concerned about him. Patton thinks its adorable

He has pages of research on proper spf determination.

Roman and Remus use spf 15 just on their faces and have never once burned in their lives

Logan wants to submit them for scientific study because that shouldnt be possible

Virgil calls Logan out on the fact that he also should be wearing sunscreen and Logan like... blue screens he cant believe in all his research he missed that

-Patton is like... a ridiculously strong swimmer. Virgil still has a heart attack every time he goes for laps when there is the slightest hint of an undertow

Patton Knows This so he tries to stay in Virgil's sight line for the most part if there is an undertow. Or just dives over the waves again and again.

His nickname is Ariel. He thinks its just cuz of the swimming and the fact hes a red head. LAP all separately also tack on that its the swimming, the red hair, and the hnng pretty 10/10 would follow out to sea ala Prince Eric

-first beach bonfire Janus goes to Remy is Fully In Emile's Lap like... half an hour in

he has had like maybe a sip of a beer

Remus says he still claims this is because he is a Clingy Drunk

no one will call him on it, least of all Emile

-there is truth or dare. Roman may or may not skinny dip you have no proof

-Logan gets infuriated that he cannot roast a marshmallow properly

Patton does it perfectly every single time but its ok cuz he shares and Logan eats it right from his fingers and Roman and Virgil are just in the background Trying and Failing not to be the Most Jealous

Patton thinks theyre upset they didn't get marshmallows and makes some for them too and there is lots of Significant Eye Contact involved

Janus is going to spontaneously combust if they don't get their shit together

-Janus is out walking on the beach one night on a full moon cuz he cant sleep with everything so quiet around here when he sees a bright green patch out in the water and goes ...wait

he calls out to Remus and he comes into shore and is like "waves are perfect at night you should join me" so janus goes back and gets his board and they surf and chat for like the entire night

Janus finds out Remus couldn't sleep cuz intrusive thoughts were keeping him awake

Janus listens and doesn't judge, just lets Remus talk it out

And everyone assumes they are like Notions and Observations, but no, it’s actually blank paper and he uses it to sketch and then one day he leaves it behind and someone either Virgil or Patton finds it and flips through it and it’s all sketches of them and Roman and they’re like??? Actually really good? Anyway that’s how they find out Logan is actually minoring in art even though he’s majoring in something Very STEM

And he never told his best friends because like almost all his pre college art is Them and he doesn’t want to be caught having Feelings and by the time it gets to college it’s been too long and he can’t tell them now

Roman takes one of the sketches of him surfing and makes it his profile picture on All Social Media He Has and Logan is so flustered he nearly breaks his damn phone

Patton is so offended he didn’t get invited to Logan’s first showcase that he doesn’t talk to him for like two whole hours

Virgil quietly asks if there is any art of all four of them, finds out there is, and makes a print and keeps it on his bedside table

David is pretty sure he's seen a couple before, and those wishes certainly didn’t come true, but he can’t help himself. He stares at the star flying across the sky and thinks as loudly as he can.

UGH i'm totally outting myself here but. i really like the chivalrous/princelike type trope. like. an absurd amount, and it's what i think first drew me to him. i also love his ideals and how he's very vocal about his anarchist, anti-government nature (that part where he says "these claws are made for tearing apart the authority of an arrogant government" i just 😳😳)

but i think most of all is his relationship with luffy that makes me love him. the way he puts his baby brother over everything else in his life is something that i think says a lot about him. if you're family, if he loves you, he'll literally raze the earth just to make sure you're safe.

i have way more than 3 favorites this was so unbelievably difficult A

UGH sabo's a little shit he'd love how easy it is to fluster me. my s/i, jackel, is kind of um. "tsundere"-ish (my sincerest apologies for uttering that term in this house of god btw) and tries really hard to suppress her affection for him, but like. all he has to do is act charming and flirt just a little and she just curls up into an embarrassed little corn cob its awful actually . he thinks it's cute, though, and loves seeing the exterior crack to reveal how much she actually cares for him

sabo is currently voiced by johnny yong bosch in the funimation dub of one piece, and i know people have this weird vendetta against dub actors, but i really think johnny fits sabo perfectly. it's a great mix of boyish charm and his voice literally radiates confidence and really gives off the impression of a protector and a leader while still sounding appropriately fitting for a guy still in his early 20s.

also johnny yong bosch voiced like. one of my very first f/o's when i was in high school so i think i may have a slight bias..

💤: Do you sleep together? If so, describe your sleeping positions and patterns (E.g. who steals the blankets, are either of you insomniacs, etc.)

jackel and sabo are Rarely ever physically together, what with sabo being in the revolutionaries and jackel being a pirate. but i am extremely soft for him and i really like to imagine tropey scenarios where he's joining the straw hats on some sort of adventure and he likes sleeping together with jackel literally anytime the opportunity presents itself.

sabo's a cuddler for sure, he likes to hold jackel close and rub her arms while he drifts off. it's heaven for him but also he's quite literally a human fucking furnace so jack never gets any sleep this way and has to fucking wiggle her way out of his death grip so she doesn't die of heat exhaustion. sabo gets so unbelievably pouty everytime this happens.

🌌: What was your first date like?

so i actually have this extremely unrealistic and self-indulgent au where jackel was at baltigo with robin during the timeskip and he grows really close with sabo after they trade stories about luffy together while sabo recovers from his sudden memory resurgence.

at some point in the au, sabo literally climbs up to the window of where jackel sleeps at the base and basically strongarms him to come along with him while he sneaks out for some reason. when jackel reluctantly agreed, sabo lifted him bridal style and just jumped from the window which actually nearlyfuckign caused jackel to die of a heart attack.

it turned out that there was a meteor shower going on over the beach. sabo had overheard some officers say that they were expecting a very unique one that only happens once in a lifetime, and he wanted to see it with jackel. it was pretty much right there while they were under the moonlight together that the two realized "oh"

💐: How did you two meet?

*sweats as i stare at the above au*

canonically, they met at dressrosa, specifically in the coliseum. jackel could feel some sort of disturbance in the building because of his haki, and when he went to go investigate, he found himself face to face with donquixote grunts that were harassing sabo after catching him sneaking in, and he rushes in to defend him cus well fuck those guys.

sabo's pretty unbothered with the whole situation, and doesn't really do anything until jackel steps in just in case he gets hurt. it's after the grunts are taken care of that sabo grins and introduces himself as luffys brother and jackel just stares at him like

Death Crown: Death, trick

(I haven't played the DLC yet so, alas, no demons, or no spoilers for the demons, at least) I am absolutely charmed by the overall mood of this game and would like to see something more in that vein! Anything! Got more sacred (or unholy?) geometrical architecture for Death to interact with, maybe in greater detail than just wrecking it? What else feels like a contemporary take on a Bosch painting? Can Death get lost?

Ghost Trick: Jowd, Cabanela, trick, treat

Anything focused on Cabanela being an unstoppable force (confident, untiring, sparkling, stubborn, dexterous, loyal to the bitter end, legs) and/or Jowd being an immovable object (sarcastic, strong, depressed, self-deprecating but knowing he's hot stuff, also stubborn, clever but an emotional dumbass, round). Figuring out stuff? Something in the new timeline is linked to the old timeline? Coat? Dancing? Scarves? Halloween costumes?

I like Cabanela/Jowd and Cabanela/Alma/Jowd and Cabanela/Alma in scenarios where Jowd isn't around and Alma/Jowd in general (REALLY like all these, okay. like this is the one request where I'd love the most self-indulgent shippy takes as well), and dig Lynne/Memry. Yomiel/fianSissel and Emma/JM also cool!

Hylics: any, trick, treat

(I have only played the first game so far so please no overt spoilers for Hylics 2. Feel free to include stuff from it but... stealthily, I guess?) This is an "anything that feels somewhat like canon, please" sort of request! Love the mood, love the cast, love the little added details in their menu screen. Those can be prompts? Or the oddball stats? How do ToT's trick and treat freeforms apply to Hylics' overall... hylicsness, what would those guys think constitutes a "creepy" moment or a "fluffy" one?

Not into ships for this one, however I WILL say that Dedusmuln has all the proverbial curves in the right places. mostly their face.

Kentucky Route Zero: Weaver

Math, debt, the liminal state of almost being a ghost, seeing the world with a strange clarity... just anything Weaver, please! How'd she make her way to the town? What was it like for her to be working on Xanadu for a time? What about the community broadcast! Does she have an opinion on Carrington's oeuvre? You know... things... stuff. Weaver things. and stuff.

I love the whole cast and Weaver... wove... her story through most of them so feel free to bring in whomever. Not interested in ships here though.

Paradise Killer: Lady Love Dies, trick

A post-canon glimpse of life on '''''perfect''''' 25? That's not QUITE enough class consciousness to make the whole thing work, you guys. What does 'normal' life feel like to LD now? After following Henry's case and talking to Shinji so much, can she see that it's doomed to fail again, and then what? What IS Island 25 like, anyway? (what comes after Island 25, even?)

I liked the choice of canon romances - if it has to be just one I'd prefer it to be Crimson, but I'd also be interested in seeing what a V or triad with Doom Jazz would look like. They're all so chill about stuff

Pyre: Volfred, trick, treat

Pragmatic idealist, charismatic and bad at people, pacifist, activist, physiologically incapable of shutting up for a hot second, what's there not to love... I am very into either of the following: C. Volfred Sandalwood has a fantastic day; C. Volfred Sandalwood has a terrible no good day. Everything is great! Pre-exile antiestablishmentarian antics, maybe with Bertrude? Political gambits? The very physical dangers of the Downside which may or may not catch a scholar by surprise (who saves him?)? Tree problems? Meeting Oralech for the first time and Volfred thinks he himself is hot stuff but out of the two, Oralech is clearly the VIP? Feeling like he should live up to Lu Sclorian's legacy but he feels much closer to other Scribes (and what does Lu have to say about it, one way or another?)? The thrilling intimacy of Reading? The thrilling intimacy of lowercase reading also, maybe reading old manuscripts found in the Downside?

I very much ship him with Tariq and/or Oralech. The only canon ship I like is Hedwyn/Fikani. I also like Soliam/Gol, Bertrude/Pamitha and Celeste/Jodariel. Love all the Nightwings + Dalbert (+Deluge...?); love to dunk on Manley, Brighton and Lendel (I don't enjoy flat-out bashing, more like... I enjoy the way they are portrayed as horrible gremlins in canon and if they turn up in fic I'm not interested in more positive portrayals)

Signs of the Sojourner: Rhea, Elias, trick, treat

Once again pretty much an "anything in the style of canon" request. I love this setting, its themes and all the little lives that fill it. I am interested in a wide range of postcanon scenarios and love the whole cast - does Rhea come back to $town any number of years down the line and find $character? How'd their storyline end up in the medium-long term? What the hell is up with the Stranger (seriously, three runs and I never managed to speak with them, I have no idea)? What's life like for Elias back home, or in a new home if they can't keep the store, or if Rhea landed the Oscar ending or whatever (just, please, not dead Rhea. I love that ending but can't stand to consider what it'd do to Elias)? Or does he join the caravan just once? Who did Rhea grow to really like and can't wait to see every time? Any ghost stories or creepy encounters on the caravan's route? Does Thunder help?

I'm neutral on ships here - good with Rhea&Elias, good with background Rhea/Elias but I wouldn't like a romantic focus.

Totally Normal Wizard Apprentice: apprentice, wizard, master, trick, treat

(conflict of interest disclaimer, I illustrated this but didn't write nor nominate it) What awaits the apprentice outside the wizard's tower? It sounds like a pretty wild moon out there, I loved all the worldbuilding hints of the bigger setting. Does the wizard keep track of the apprentice, with her telescope or otherwise, and how does she take care of her ruined parlor? Was this all some sort of 5d chess on the master's part, and if so to what end? And what kind of otherworldly patience does this man possess, anyway, to handle the apprentice on a daily basis?

Twin Peaks: Margaret, Diane, Lucy, Tammy, trick, treat

(bass-boosted ethereal whooshing) For tricks, I would like to see any of these characters face the woods, the mystery of the woods, and/or a new symbol of your liking. Or: Margaret in the city, Diane and the moon, Lucy and the color blue, Tammy incognito.

For treats, a happy meeting. I love the whole cast and I'm always thrilled by gonzo "&" pairings, bring in whomever! Coffee and pie? The Bookhouse Boys? A kinder aspect of the woods?

Fandom-specific notes: love s3, love the books too. I like Lucy/Andy, Margaret/Sam fwiw, and rarepairs Tammy/Cynthia and Diane/Constance. Please no Fireman's-house-is-the-white-lodge, no Twin Perfect, no Judy-was-destroyed (nor is destroyable).

Arcade Spirits: Percy, Teo, treat

More than anything, I love the sense of group and camaraderie among the arcade's staff and regulars, and I'd love to see some more of it. I picked Percy and Teo 'cause they're my faves but anyone you may want to add, up to and including Sue, is very very welcome. Is there any aspect of gaming that feels like it could be adapted to this strange world of contemporary arcades? Cosplay shenanigans for everyone courtesy of Ashley? Any other activity that could show how Percy and/or Teo get along with the others, like they were all forming little groups during the beach chapter? It's such a feel-good canon, any feel-good situation would be great!

My Ari is with Percy but I'm not really interested in shipping here. All sorts of friendships though!

Q1 : If you could write your character your way in their own movie, what would it be called, what style would it be filmed in, and what would it be about?

A1 : I’ve always wanted to see Cigarettes and Fireflies as an animated series rather than a movie, first season starting with the Underground Arc.

Q2 : What would their soundtrack/score sound like?

A2 : Epic scores (I really love Hans Zimmer) for battle scenes, but also quiet soundtracks from Sleeping At Last for some private moments. But really, there are SO MANY TRACKS I have on the playlist.

Q3 : Why did you start writing this character?

A3 : My first main character, Roen, had just completed this huge three year arc of a story, and I wanted to write for someone new, someone who was extroverted, open, and personable. Roen was none of these things. I also wanted to delve into some mystical side of magic, and the Xaela was introduced.

Q4 : What first attracted you to this character?

A4 : Xaelas were one of my favorite parts from Stormblood. Shamanism and all that. But I wanted her to be also displaced from it, with a loss of identity in a way.

Q5 : Describe the biggest thing you dislike about your muse.

A5 : Sometimes, her reactions are not what come naturally to me. The things she would say and think could seem baffling to someone else, but I want it to make sense in her own head. There are times where I struggle to make certain her reactions feel natural, since I would have definitely lashed out more, been furious and or distrusting, but she decides consciously not to choose those paths. She is a patient and kind person above all, but sometimes I wonder if it comes off believable rather than tropey.

Q6 : What do you have in common with your muse?

A6 : She derives a lot of satisfaction in helping people. She also likes to daydream. And seeing her loved ones be happy, makes her happy.

Q7 : How does your muse feel about you?

A7 : Nabi would probably adore my puppy and would approve of my doting husband. Probably also would like my career choice.

Q8 : What characters does your muse have interesting interactions with?

A8 : I love, LOVE the people I am writing with. They are all so fantastic. Nabi’s story wouldn’t be what it is today without Anchor. And we wouldn’t have ongoing arcs without Sentry, Ghoa, and Shael. Pjel recently jumped in, so I am quite excited to see how she gets to know everyone.

Q9 : What gives you inspiration to write your muse ?

A9 : Music, sad and not sad head canons (thanks Anchor), lately some AU ideas (again Anchor’s fault), but mostly the RPers/friends I write with. They are AMAZING.

Q10 : How long did this take you to complete ?

A10 : Too long for me. I have work next morning. Which is why I skipped the tropes.

Dear Yuletide Author 2019

Hi there, so glad we matched on one (or more?) of these great fandoms! I had such a fantastic first Yuletide last year, and I’ve been looking forward to this one since. I can’t wait to read whatever you write!

Before I go into my specific requested fandoms, here are some general likes and dislikes:

Likes: Tropes! Fandom specific and in general. I love AU, UA to see how any changes big or small effects these characters and the nature vs nurture of it all. I love fluff and moments of casual intimacy, but I also really enjoy plot and world building (especially for my Cloak and Dagger prompt, more on that later)

DNW: Preferably not Christmas-focused and that the rating is a hard T at the max. Noncon/dubcon, first/second person POV, character bashing, die for our ship, A/B/O, Mpreg, songfic (though if you made a playlist while writing i would be delighted to listen to it!), needlessly grimdark (angst with a happy ending is fine!), torture.

Favorite tropes: Fake dating, pining, mUTUAL PINING!!!!!!,undercover, roadtrips, bed sharing, locked in a room, PLATONIC SHOWERING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (my term for two people with a bad case of UST being forced to shower together, usually in an emergency situation a la this chuck scene)

Birds of Prey

What I Like About The Characters: What an iconic relationship and team! I love Babs and Dinah’s banter and unwavering belief and trust in each other. They’re so competent and incredible at what they do, and everyone knows if, even if they don’t know who they are. I love that Dinah gets Babs to loosen up and have more fun (them hanging out together not on missions or even undercover is always great) but they can come to each other about anything. I also enjoy the other Birds (Zinda is so great!) and how changing the team dynamic challenged and deepened their relationship.

Gen Prompt:

In a similar vein to the Jason Todd/Buzzfeed Unsolved idea that was going around the fandom, I would love a fictional podcast episode/transcript about a deep dive True Internet Mystery related to the Birds.

Do they get close? How much do they get right? How much do they get wrong? What angle do they discover- Oracle, the hacker countless criminals and the US government is terrified of, or is there maybe a superhero 911 the Justice League isn’t telling us about?

The podcast I am thinking of specifically is Reply All. If you haven’t listened to it, I can’t recommend it enough! Great hosts with fantastic chemistry and edge-of-your-seat Internet mystery deep dives. They even did one about LiveJournal! That aside, using PJ and Alex would be super fun, but not necessary. Feel free to use your own characters!

DinahBabs Prompt:

I would love a fic of Dinah casually, boldly flirting with Oracle before they meet in person, and Babs shutting it down due to insecurities. Then, when they finally meet, Dinah goes Oh no she’s hot and falling in love as learns more about Barbara Gordon the person.

Cloak & Dagger

What I Like About The Characters:

What is not to love about these two? God, literal, actual slow-burn superhero soulmates! I love that they call each other out on their bullshit but are there for each other no matter what. They’ve done so much growing together. I love the smaller scale, real issues that not even superpowers can fix focus the show has.

Prompt:

After The Snap! Yeah let’s get some angst up in here. Do they both survive? What happens if one of them doesn’t? Do they say fuck that noise and go through dimensions/hell to find them? What happens to New Orleans/people on the ground after The Snap? How do they help, being called in to do some big leagues superheroing that they aren’t exactly ready for yet. Would love some world building here!

If the Snap is too heavy for you, then what about one of the alternate universes offered in Season 2? Would especially be interested in them getting together in the “Perfect Universe” (in their dream universe they’re best friends since childhood!!!!!! kill me!!!!!!)

West Coast Avengers

What I Like About The Characters:

What a fun book!!! I love the casual, laid-back, character-driven focus the series has, and the lineup is great. I am most familiar with the Hawkeyes and America, so I have slight favoritism there but I also love the Watts. I was not expecting to like Quentin and Gwen as much as I do, but they have a fun relationship! Jeff the Land Shark is my favorite though, no contest!!!!! What a good shark!!!!!

I enjoy watching Kate leading her first team while Clint roots her on, and the reality TV show aspect is fun.

I love the Watts and their sibling relationship!

For ships, I like AmeriKate a lot but I’m also down for the current canon ships!! I like how Ramone can handle America’s bullshit and brings out her softer side.

Also, I am Californian, so any and all specific references/potshots at LA would definitely be welcome!

Prompt:

The team on their day off (while still being filmed, of course). How do they train?

More of the public reacting/interacting with the West Coast Avengers (Social media would definitely be fun here!)

A ridiculous plot! Maybe the bad guy of the issue is super far out (They’re attacking Van Nuys, Kate. Van Nuys! Can’t there be some sort of Valley Avengers?) or the team’s just being their usual disaster self. Open to it all!

Teen Beach Movie

What I Like About The Characters:

This is my second year requesting these characters, and for good reason! They’re delightful together, with great romantic chemistry and excellent opportunities for mutual pining. I like how they literally should not even exist in the same universe, but in doing so they learn from and help each other grow.

Prompt:

I think a tropey-AU would be really fun for these two. Maybe they’re rival spies! Or one’s a spy and the other’s a civilian that they meet by chance and should’ve never crossed paths with, but they somehow keep running into each other (coincidence, or by design?) and they fall in love.

It doesn’t need to be mentioned in the fic but I would prefer if they were both bi (no Tanner/Brady bashing, please!)
