The Secret Other Thing: KILL
This is my eighth post in a series I’ll be making on how to increase biodiversity on a budget! I’m not an expert--just an enthusiast--but I hope something you find here helps!
Tumblr media
KILL, TEAR, RIP, MAIM.
You may have seen this sentiment a few times on gardening and wildlife blogs and been incredibly confused. Isn’t killing things the opposite of what you should be doing to protect habitats? In some cases, it really is necessary!
Invasive Plants
Invasive plants can do more harm than good, taking up space and nutrients and providing little in return to local wildlife--while spreading and choking out the native plants that would provide the most to our native fauna. Learn how to identify invasive species in your area and how to properly dispose of them, and do so whenever you have the opportunity! You may even be able to find volunteer groups/events where you can join up with like-minded people to remove a specific plant from an area.
Tumblr media
(This image refers to the United States specifically--these plants aren't invasive or native everywhere!)
Pro tip, though; if you take out an invasive species and leave empty soil where it was, it’s likely another quick-growing invasive species will just move in. We don’t want that! Try to plant something in its place! If you’re going out on a mission to take out invasive plants, try to keep some native flower seeds or seedlings on your person while you do this work.
Different plants are invasive in different places, so be sure that the plant you're targeting is actually invasive to where you are. You don’t want to rip out a beneficial plant because it’s invasive somewhere else! Social media sites like Instagram and Tumblr are great for spreading information about invasive plants, but they can often be a bit… US-centric. Even I'm guilty of this, plenty of times! Plants like garlic mustard, kudzu, butterfly bush, Amur honeysuckle, wild radish, and Japanese knotweed are high-profile invasive plants that I hear about all the time here in America--but they came from somewhere, and are a part of the environment in these places! Likewise, many plants that are branded as pollinator-friendly and biodiversity boosters here in the states can be awful invasive species elsewhere. Even plants and animals that aren’t invasive in one part of a country or continent can be detrimental in another--Canadian waterweed is native to North America, but it’s actually invasive in Alaska.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Japanese honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica) vs Coral honeysuckle (Lonicera sempervirens) vs the yellow variety of Coral honeysuckle (Lonicera sempervirens))
Be sure you’re taking out the right plant--be very confident in your ID before you take any action! Amur honeysuckle and Japanese honeysuckle, for example, may be invasive in the US--but coral and northern bush honeysuckles are native and key species in their environments. You don’t want to do harm while trying to do good--double check your IDs. Being certain with your IDs can also prevent you from doing harm to yourself and others--some plants produce toxic smoke when burned. Stay well-read on how to dispose of the invasive plants you’re targeting.
Tumblr media
(Garlic mustard pesto! Can't say I've ever had it, but I've heard good things about it online!)
With that being said! Some invasive species can be eaten. It’s free food! And you’re helping the environment? Win-win! Try looking up recipes that use these plants, or see how you can substitute something else for them! Foraging guides and blogs would likely be extremely helpful for this.
A super easy way to help curb the spread of invasive plants is to not grow them yourself! Double check any plant you’re considering buying or growing from seed--some sold in stores like butterfly bush are often touted as great plants to add to a pollinator garden, but in reality are an invasive species that eagerly displaces native shrubs here in the states.
Tumblr media
POV: you're working the garden center at the Blue Big Box Store, you care about the environment, and every day you watch people buy Butterfly Bush and can do jack shit about it asides from try to gently steer them towards something else (but the other next best option was also Invasive Tropical Milkweed because its easier for Big Box Store to sell) I have a personal vendetta against people who grow Butterfly Bush (I live in The States) (If you didn't know Butterfly Bush was invasive in the US before now you're valid but also please god consider replacing it with an alternative ASAP)
Invasive Animals
Tumblr media
POV 30 to 50 feral hogs are running into your yard within 3-5 minutes while your small children play
Invasive animals and insects compete for resources, take over habitat, and can even spread disease--all while pushing native species out or dwindling their numbers. Keep track of invasive animals you see and report them. Depending on the severity of the situation, killing them can be necessary and even encouraged. Do be sure it’s an invasive species and not a look-alike. If you’re unsure, take pictures, do research, and take action the next time.
Some high-profile invasive species in the US are spotted lanternflies, cuban tree frogs, hammerhead worms, feral swine, zebra mussels, lionfish, asian carp, burmese python, and others. Again, do make sure you’re targeting species that are invasive in your area; I doubt Asian carp are considered invasive in Asia, for example. Similarly, the American bullfrog is native to the eastern US and Canada, but is quickly becoming an invasive species around the rest of the world. Not to mention, the racoon problem in Japan…
Tumblr media
Some invasive species can be eaten as well! Some of them taste awful, and some can even be dangerous to eat or handle without caution. I would do a good amount of research online before trying to cook up just anything.
Doing it Right
If you’re trying to handle invasive species, you do have to ensure you’re doing it properly. As you do your research, you’ll likely see if the species should be photographed and reported and to what channels. Also in some cases, going about destroying them incorrectly could unintentionally help them spread--some plants spread quickly through rhizomes into disturbed soil, and hammerhead worms can actually regenerate from pieces into fully-developed new worms when you try to cut them up. Some invasive species are even actively harmful to humans, so I cannot emphasize enough that you need to be sure about what you’re dealing with and be careful about it. Giant Hogweed, for example, has toxic sap that’ll cause severe skin inflammation and painful blisters if it contacts skin and is exposed to sunlight. The blisters last for months, and the skin may develop long-term sensitivity for sunlight.
If you’re unsure about how to handle an invasive plant, or are unsure of it’s identity, try contacting your local university co-op extension service if you’re in the states. They can tell you how to remove it safely and effectively. I can't say for sure what other channels would be the best option for someone living outside the states, so if anyone knows, feel free to chime in!
Pets
Tumblr media
POV: ur little outdoor kitty Firestar is destroying the balance of your local ecosystem plz keep him INSIDE
Please keep your pets inside, or at least on a leash. An outdoor cat can do a lot more damage than one might imagine, as well as unrestrained dogs.
That’s the end of this post! And... technically, the last post in the series! My next and final final post is gonna be basically a giant list of all my sources that I used to make this post! I hope this post series was informative, helpful, interesting--anything of value, really! Feel free to reply with any questions, your success stories, or anything you think I may have forgotten to add in!

BOTD: Tooth-Billed Pigeon
Tumblr media
Tooth-Billed Pigeon (Didunculus strigirostris)
The Tooth-Billed Pigeon is a critically endangered bird found only in Samoa. As its appearance would suggest, it is genetically close to the Dodo, and the genus name Didunculus means 'little dodo'. Little is known about the behaviour of the species as it is so secretive and the population is so small, but it is believed to feed on the fruits of the tree Dysoxylum.
Notice: If you know of any places to donate to help save/conserve any birds I post, please do message me with a link or reply with it! I will reblog the post adding the link. I want my blog to also encourage people to want to protect and save birds.

Really random, but what creature that you don't have on your farm would be a dream creature to you??? My grandpa's neighbor had peacocks roaming around his farm, which was interesting to me when I was little because as cool as they are I was/am terrified of most birds.
i love this question because peacocks are specifically one of the last animals i would want due to i (and i imagine also my neighbors) do not love the idea of a bird that shrieks HELP!!!! at all hours of the day. the wet season muddiness would also i think leave them pretty bedraggled
in the realm of something theoretically possible but not in my near future i would love to get ducks and build them some "ponds" out of stock tanks which i could then drain to use their dirty shit water as a high nitrogen fertilizer, the main problem being that there is nothing particularly uphill from my vegetable garden (which would allow me to just use gravity to drain the tanks), and i don't think this would be the most efficient way to irrigate the orchard. i'm not above the concept of building a platform just for this purpose though
if we're talking "there are no barriers, chase your most rich person exotic pet dreams" then the answer is the ocellated turkey which, being that its native range is much closer to the equator than i am would almost certainly Hate it here but like. look at them. it's like evolution said what if a turkey fucked a peacock. what if a turkey was scene

K I R A - OC
[ Category: The Promised Land ]
" Lord of the Deceitful / Lord of Deceit "
Notice: I have loads of OCs but there are also sub categories.. Like OCs with "Important roles" and "side OCs" which are not entirely my "Main OCs" but still very much matter to the worlds I've created with them... This is //cough// In association with the Promised Land and the Frostclaw.
| AKA. This mischievous one has many names; " Master of Disguises ", " Lord of Mischief ", " a Cold blooded King ", " Kira, Lord of the Deceitful ". His little hideout/fortress is located where a secluded village used to reside, now built entirely of blood, anger and envy for the land that rumoured to have "wronged him" some time ago.. Referring to the Promised Land and it's inhabitants to clarify, however for whatever reason for his vile and treacherous actions is still a mystery as to what he means by being wronged by the world.
Anyways, this is Kira, the one who has ruined many lives, families and so on; Caligo of course being one of his victims of not only almost being executed and their blood used for his dark rituals, but also being driven out by their one and only home before Asim took them in.. The Deceit, previously known as the Secluded tribe before he took over, were very alone and as obviously mentioned, secluded from the rest of the Promised Land.. Kira made himself and the devastation of the Nocturnal Elves very well known when he took over and killed/enslaved many of his own kind before branching off his minions far and wide to spread fear into the hearts of many.. Nocturnal Elves can also be born with a rare genetic; This genetic creates a slight mutation within the blood, mainly of women or female presenting, this rate genetic is known as "Witch blood" where it not only changes the blood from the usual red to an almost luminous green, but also seemingly taps into their "inner third eye" and unlocks stronger abilities than what Nocturnal Elves are capable of.
Extra Info
Nocturnal Elves are magic bearers, their magic consists of manipulation either via the mind or visual; They have always been seen as the mischievous lot within the Promised Land, even way before Kira took over as a tyrant
Despite almost all Nocturnal Elves being able to use magic, it is mostly ever common within women and female presenting people of the civilization; Kira was one of the "unfortunate ones" to not have that ability , however he has found ways, with the aid of those who bear and follow the same mindset as his, to not only be able to obtain powerful magics of the rare "witches" blood, he willingly drained rare blood of those who had the same blood genetic. Caligo's mother being a victim of those rituals and eventually getting sick and succumbing to both the illness and the effects of the ritual, but Kira almost successfully putting Caligo through the same fate
Nocturnal Elves are commonly born with slit mesmerizing green eyes that almost glow during the night, hence how they ended up being called "Nocturnal Elves" by the other inhabitants of the Promised Land. It's also rumoured that their eyes also contain hypnotising-like abilities themselves
Kira was but a feeble homeless child before his dark upbringing into power by his own hands (along with the persuasion and manipulative ways), he has done many horrible things to both the people and leaders of the land; Threatening the King of Gold and attempted several times to steal his child, trying to pit kingdoms and regions against each other with a few occasions where he succeeded, and even sending out his minions to trouble specific provinces of every region to disrupt the peace between the majority of the kingdoms
Although he seems more like a menace on the outside, he's actually been planning a huge takeover of the Promised Land for years, even as to making himself almost immortal with said blood rituals and sacrifices to get what he desires. What makes it worse is that he's cunning, he knows exactly what he's doing and what he wants
Nobody knows his face, nobody knows anything about what he looks like except for his one singular eye he smugly and mischievously glares at his victims/enemies with
However unable to be proven, it is rumoured that he and Caligo could've had chemistry in the past, or at last Kira assumed they did; His obsession to hunt and look for Caligo, even going as far as to send out bounty hunters and assassins of all kinds just so they could get to them and return them to him, makes it seem how true such a rumour could have been
Whether or not his motives are reasonable or not, whether he is right with the motives he has and for the unbearable hatred he has for the provinces within the Promised Land, specifically for the Golden Palace that seems to burn bright within him; He harasses, taunts, hurts and brings misery wherever he goes with no remorse, there is nothing or no one for him to care for but himself, not even his own loyal followers who willingly do whatever he wants or says.. No doubt he sees whoever but himself as replaceable or disposable as long as he gets what he has been working for his life..
.. Either way, he's causing chaos wherever he goes and cackling like a mad man while doing so
☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
... This may seem very messed up and non-sensical with my words,,, Idk how to word and never have tbh so like... Idk... But either way, just like another guy I posted- King of the Golden Palace, Aurelius, who also had some overall basic info about him and everything and even vaguely mentioned about Kira on there along with a bunch of other posts that have to do with the Promised Land...
Anyways- Kira, Lord of the Deceitful. Although not an "official" leader of any kingdom or region as he just made an empire from the get-go or so much anger, mischief, manipulation and just overall having a way with words to get those on his side, he still has quite the place here that he... Well, surely made for himself of course!!
He's what you could call the "villain" of this land and is in fact a pretty big bad... Also kinda big mad cuz even though he may seem, snide, calm and cocky, he does in fact have a side of him that he will bring out when he snaps... Not everyone can keep their cool for potential losses can they................... But yeah.... Also just like Aurelius, I also have a slightly older design of Kira that I drew along with the other leaders that did somewhat change slightly in design... Although not really by that much, I just drew a design, updates it and actually made it look somewhat decent in my eyes..
Tumblr media
.. Ngl it very much looks almost the same as his new design I drew for him, just extra limbs that are actually forbidden magic and his anatomy is kinda a turn on for me lmao- It's just funny how originally this character was actually going to be like a rival clan with the Yiga clan from BotW/AoC/TotK who was deeply obsessed with Kohga and would actively kidnap him on multiple occasions while trying to kill him and take over Hyrule for himself...
.... Which doesn't entirely seem so farfetched now since the Promised Land there are literally technologies from all realms and realities, along with being able to dimension hop with SAID scavenged technologies and so on-
Almost like Kohga was a disguise for Caligo to hide from Kira so they couldn't be found and drained of their blood by him lmao
... I love the idea and very much it's practically canon as they all used to be related to such, but I don't wanna officialise that concept cuz technically they are their own thing.. Anyways...
That's enough out of me...
I have so much more to do and I'm nowhere near done yet-... And yeah, again- Sorry about the non-sensical bullshit, I'm not good at writing and overall when I'm tired or overwhelmed I literally cannot words for the life of me..

So @curedeity came up with the hilarious concept of Minori making mermaid lore videos while Laura just chills in the background and I wanted to illustrate it! The concept of precure having youtube channels has so much chaotic good potential XD
Here’s the original galaxy brain post: https://www.tumblr.com/blog/view/curedeity/687050199519068160?source=share
Image description under the cut:
Image Description: A traditional art drawing featuring a mock up youtube video page. The video, uploaded by user Legendary Papaya and titled “The mermaid Theory iceberg Explained” features Minori and Laura from tropical rouge precure at the pool in the Aozora aquarium. Minori is in front of a microphone decorated with little pink flowers and colorful beads, smiling and gesturing with her open hand as she is explaining something. Laura is laying in the background on the other side of the pool, in her mermaid form, admiring her painted nails and smiling. To the right side of the video window, five recommened videos are listed. The titles are, in order from above to below: “Door of courage!” (thumbnail shows Urara from Yes Precure 5), “Cutefy your wardrobe!” (Sango from Tropical Rouge precure holding a dress), “Blazing good weather man” (Asuka’s dad from Tropical Rouge), “Komachi scary story vol.3″ (An open book, a mug and some daifuku sweets) and “H@ppy Together” (The four girls from Fresh precure as a dance group).

Sawi bachelor students from [Garden of Mourning Branch] learning from their mentor about pre-extinction flora.
Caretakers of the biomechanical cities and structures made by the dying empire of the Precursors, the Sawi are characterized as a technologically advanced group with a focus on action and development rather than detached study.
The Sawi hold the belief that loamcats should work reverse the climate change and ecological destruction that the Precursors died out to- though this belief is controversial, even among themselves. Most of loamcat civilization is dependent on these new weather patterns and ecology. To reverse that would cause unimaginable stress on both the economy and, perhaps less importantly to leadership, people's lives.

Long Finned Asian Arowana (Scleropages formosus)
These fish look like real-life dragons to me! This species is native to freshwater habitats in Southeast Asia. They are endangered in the wild. However, they can be captive bred so many individuals are kept as pets or as exhibits in public aquariums around the world. They are considered a good luck symbol in Chinese culture since they resemble an Asian dragon.
