This is the best episode in season 12 for reasons. Hector is DAH BEST. HE'S DAH GOAT. HE'S THE COAL HOPPER OF THE SHOW, and he's DAH MOST BEST AMAZING HIT ERA CHARACTER EVER. One last thing, James in this episode in very much in character. Three strikes you're out formula aside, I love this episode! GIVE HECTOR SOME LOOOOOVE. HE DESERVES EVERYTHING.

More story ideas I had while sleep deprived
I might just do one of these every few weeks, ngl.
Brake Coach Kana - Wanting to know why her friend Bruno enjoys going backwards, Kana volunteers to fill in as Gordon’s brake coach while its brake pipe is being mended. Unfortunately, it isn’t as nice as Bruno made it out to be.
Thomas For Sale - Based on the magazine story. Thinking that he’s being sold to a private owner for causing confusion and delay, Thomas tries his hardest to be as useful as possible. Meanwhile, his friends prepare to hold a deputation with the Fat Controller.
Gone For Good Gator? - After finding out that Gator is being withdrawn from service, Percy tries his best to help his friend. 
Mountain Misfortune - While visiting Sodor, Ashima is excited to learn about the Culdee Fell Railway, but she’s soon disappointed when she finds out she isn’t the right gauge for it.
Trustworthy Trucks - After seeing just how troublesome Sodor’s trucks are, Nia promises not to let them get the better of her. But when she needs to take Hector and a train of coal trucks to Great Waterton, she just might learn that not every truck is troublesome.
Kana the Goods Engine - Kana volunteers to take Henry’s goods train to Vicarstown after he breaks down. On the way, the trucks learn that faster doesn’t always mean fun.
Back in My Day - When her charger at Vicarstown breaks, Kana spends the night at the Vicarstown Railway Museum. There, she learns more about some of Sodor’s history from Neil.
Red as a Rosie - After Kana finds out that she used to be pink, Rosie tells the story of how she got her new livery.
Hit the Brakes - Bruno’s brakes are put to the test when he needs to help James deliver a heavy train to the Steamworks.
Curse of the Mid-Sodor - Duke tells the story of the MSR’s many number 2′s and the ‘curse’ that followed the number.
Thomas the Utility Engine - After seeing how worn out Nia is, Thomas offers to do her work while she gets some rest. He soon finds that there’s more to being a utility engine than he thought.

Dohoho, a deep cut from the bad old days!
I don't have much to say on "Hector the Horrid" beyond that the narrative is a little thin but that's par for the course in this era.
"James Works It Out" though? Now there's something interesting.
The premise of this episode is that James is pushing a train of freight cars, including Hector who he put on to show off, and it's snowy. Hector gives James quite sensible advice, but James does not want to take advice, not least of all "from a freight car". Then he eats shit and deigns to ask Hector what they could do to get their shipment delivered on time.
It's James so the presumed problem here is his vanity, but I actually think it's something more.
There is seems to be a sort of social hierarchy when it comes to rolling stock. Much of it is based on precedent: trucks are almost always troublesome, none too bright, and malicious so you can generally assume that about them. Coaches are mostly well behaved but can be catty and they remember slights against them foreverrrrrrr. What we know about brake vans is more varied (i.e. an entire post on its own) due to their modicum of control over the train, but overall, I think the thing at play here is that all these types of guys can do little to nothing on their own. They require an engine to move them and when they're part of an engine's train, they're considered that engine's responsibility.
And because the engine is considered the one in charge of his train, one does not generally want to take advice from any subordinates on it. Not least of all a freight car and definitely not in front of other engines.
Honestly, this isn't unreasonable usually. Trucks will mislead you if you let them and as an engine, you should know best what you're doing. And one also does not want to give rolling stock more license for backseat locomotion than strictly necessary. Stock that thinks it's entitled to an opinion, like Bradford for instance, will demand an audience for it and make life harder for the next guy who has to pull it.
The problem is exceptions to the rule. Hector, as it turns out, is not troublesome and is indeed quite knowledgeable about track conditions and layout, his own weight, and the physics involving it. His intentions are benign. His advice is good and should have been taken.
Toad often has similar troubles with his engines. I rather suspect there might have been some more nuanced understanding on the GWR about the role of a brake van on a train because of the way Toad drops his butler-like demeanor and asserts himself in these situations. Suffice to say, his advice is also always good and should be taken, but if an engine's not willing to listen to him in the first place or fights him when he wants to stop, they're just gonna have to fuck around and find out.
Which is what James does and eventually he realizes Hector knows what's up and there's no harm in listening to him (especially if there's no other engines around to see him do it).
So basically my take on Hector is, his first episode is ridiculous because he's stock that has no autonomy (like, really, Thomas, what was he even going to do to you?) and his second one tells us a bit about social hierarchy and the chain of command expected on a train for the same reason.

   HECTOR is a huge, happy hopper truck who can carry more coal than any of the other regular trucks on the island. Unlike his fellow trucks, HECTOR enjoys helping all the engines on The Fat Controller’s Railway. Though they’re not a truly troublesome sort, should any of the other trucks cause any of his engine friends trouble when they’re around, there’s a chance that his more… troublesome side may show face.

Musical musings - TTTE edition
One of the things that got me back into TTTE was the banger soundtrack and character themes. Music has always been a huge part of my life, I have classical training for the piano and an in-depth knowledge of musical theory and harmonic practices for classical music. So here are some of the things I noticed about various character themes and some of the engines' whistles.
Gordon is considered to be the biggest engine out of the main 12, and this could be reflected in his whistle, as it has the greatest interval between the two notes which make it up, that being a minor seventh between C and Bb.
James' whistle (G - C#/Db) is a tritone/Augmented 4th/Diminished 5th. In medieval times, this interval was considered to be a representation of conflict, discord (no, not THAT Discord) instability and danger. You can hear it in pieces like the iconic opening to Camille Saint-Seans' Danse Macabre, and in Hector Berlioz's La damnation de Faust to represent the titular character's arrival in Hell. James, I've noticed, is pretty damn insecure. He clings to his red paint like a lifeline and hides behind a veneer of arrogance and vanity. He can be quite boastful, to the detriment of his relationships with other engines, with him usually being the aggressor in conflicts with them. So I suppose the use of a tritone for his whistle is appropriate.
Percy appears to (mentally) be the youngest of the main 12, and this could be represented by having the highest whistle out of all of them.
Thomas' character theme and Edward's Series 2 theme both feature modulations to the parallel major of the initial key's relative minor, with Thomas' theme starting in F major and ending in D major, and Edward's theme starting in C major and ending in A major. The "relative minor" of a major key is the minor key which shares its key signature (ex. the relative minor of F major is D minor since they share the same key signature of one flat, likewise with C major, A minor and a key signature of no accidentals). The "parallel major" of a minor key is the major key which shares its 1st note (AKA, the tonic). So....like mentor, like mentee. Or like Father, like Son, in terms of musical themes.
Henry's theme is in a quadruple meter (following an 8-measure phrasing pattern, likely 12/8 time), meaning that there are 4 beats to a measure. However, each one of these "beats" consists of a triplet(If you were to count out a measure, it'd be 1-2-3 4-5-6 7-8-9 10-11-12, and you'd conduct it like 4 beats instead of each of the 12 individual notes) And Henry is the number 3 engine. Hmm.......

P.S: One of my favourite OSTs is Kingdom Dance from Tangled, and every time I listen it, I think of the twins. Probably because it uses the E Dorian mode (with a dash of E Mixolydian) which is common in Scottish music. Just in case anyone's confused, the "Dorian" mode is an 8-note scale which starts on the second note of a given major scale. (e.g, E is the 2nd note of a D major scale, so its Dorian mode uses the same signature of 2 sharps). The Mixolydian mode is an 8-note scale which starts on the 5th note of a given major scale. (e.g, E is the 5th note of an A major scale and thus, its Mixolydian mode uses the same key signature of 3 sharps).

How would hector have the same quirks as the other trucks or will he be different due to his personality and relationship with the engines?.
yea he would be different due to having relationships with the engines. usually rolling stock that actively interacts with the engines thus getting a proper form that can function. the more they were interacted with whether with some humans or other functioning rolling stock, engines,cranes,machines etc. the more functioning form they have

Now, thinking about how he’d fit into the human au. Since he is basically a giant truck (like the troublesome trucks) he might be a bit different. Now the troublesome trucks in my Au don’t really have a design in it yet. More so I might just keep them as they are (another idea is that they help with coupling them as a human, but that doesn’t make sense so-) now about Hector. Hector on the other hand is like everyone else. Instead , he’s the one who keeps his truck in check. Which is why (in this human au case,) he screamed “Keep away!” Another think to think about is how he’s even alive (since most have some sort of firebox or something connected to their stones) he’s a different example. He’s mostly built with robotic parts. The reason he’s somehow alive? Gold dust. That’s what his stone is entirely made of. With his though, he’s more submittal to almost getting killed in an accident. Since he doesn’t have a firebox to be relit. (Means he might have a harder time recovering from accidents too)
