Introduction Post (pinned) I figured since I've made some new boop-friends and such, I might make a brief little introduction post about me and what you'll expect to see on my blog... even though it's kind of in my blog intro itself. *You can call me Undine! (she/her) it's nice to meet you all and as said before I had so much fun exchanging boops with everyone.

I like a bunch of stuff, but mainly I'm really into things from days gone by such as the oldies but goodies. We're talking:

Music. My listening scope is the 20s-60s; but with a main focus on the '50s-'60s. I even have a big ol' Spotify playlist compiled of my favorite oldies if you're interested in listening to that! There's even earlier music in there too. If you want to check out what kinds of artists I mainly listen to, I have a last.fm profile. It'll give you a better idea! But some of my favorites at the moment are Jim Reeves, Perry Como, Dean Martin, Sanford Clark, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Ricky Nelson, Lola Albright, Hank Williams, Webb Pierce, Faron Young, Starset, Vitas.... Obviously this list is not exhaustive and you can go to my Lastfm and pretty much my tastes are there! I mainly like rock n' roll and classic country but again, Lastfm will tell you!

Movies. I'll admit I don't really have the attention span for much movies but on the occasion that I do, the Golden Age of film is probably my go-to. I have a lot of stuff on my watchlist... procrastination is a big thing with me.

TV series, too. I like the older TV series but I'm into modern stuff as well (I promise I'm not just a boomer, the modern stuff applies to everything else too! /j). I really like the noir and detective noir genres. Some examples of TV series I like include Dragnet, Peter Gunn, Johnny Staccato, Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, the Addams Family, BBC's Merlin (still need to finish), Doctor Who (although unfortunately I've not been able to catch up in a long time so no spoilers please!)

Old-time radio. Dragnet (which originally started as OTR) and Broadway is my Beat are some examples of what I'm into. So going into this, you will probably see me post people or things from the medias above, or others also. Other things I like include:

Pokémon. A bit rusty as I've not played a mainline game nor completed one in a while although wanting to get back into it soon but still like it.

Photography, one day I hope to learn how to become a great photographer. Oh hey look everyone, it's Genesis!!! :D Now this is one of those things where, when you realize that my dad introduced me to this band when I was 12 and I picked it up hard, the knowledge kinda explains a lot about me. This was the first time I ever heard rock music that wasn't structured like rock music. The first song he showed me was "The Musical Box," as it was and still remains his #1 favourite song of all time, it's special to him thanks to formative memories. I would show that one here (and, like. hey, if you like Stairway to Heaven but wish it was longer, heavier, had more guitar solos, but still came out the same year, the same MONTH.... then yeah here you go, let your mind be blown), but I'd rather focus on my favourite. :3

This is "Firth of Fifth." The title is a pun on an English river, and the lyrics are fancy and pretty and involve religion and Sirens and the river of Time and stuff. That's all well and good. But the music. No, seriously, the music!!! An elegant formal structure, based around a central piano piece, met halfway by a solo shared by... no, I can't do it, I can't just spoil it. ;w; Like, this song is... this song made me. I would write my fanfics to this all the time. I would get strength from it.

And furthermore, now years down the line, in my time of weed and depression, I admittedly turned to watching reaction videos on YouTube. A lot of them. Usually for my favourite things, to assure myself that I'm not alone, that others can see what I see. And I was excited when people started doing Genesis reactions, when those even became a little trend, but the best part was? The trending song was this one. And everyone, every damn reaction channel that covered this, had the same experience, and it was my experience from being a kid!!!!!!!

That experience is as follows:

1: Wow, pretty intro! Much more classical than I normally go for, but sure, I'm up for that!

2: Oh wow there's a band here. Peter Gabriel's voice is distinct and soulful and pleasant. But this is kiiiinda boring, kiiiinda sleepy. I'll listen to the rest of the song, but this isn't my kind of thing.

3: Oh huh, the vocals have stopped and now the instruments are going on an interlude by themselves. You have my attention. Where are you going with this.

MY WRITING

➸ Writing masterlist* ➸ Primary genres // Romance, period, urban fantasy, mysteries, fanfiction *There are several WIPs on my writing masterlist that are on hiatus, and will likely not be discussed on my blog anymore! 98% of my writing is co-written with my best friend and writing partner @decantae. We've been writing together for nearly 6 years, and we primarily focus on writing bisexual romances in a variety of genres that spiral into massive plots. Our most recent focus has been writing period romances. Our current passion project and the WIP that I write for the most is a fanfiction period romance that features a huge polyamorous relationship, and it's nearly at 600k words written over a year and a half thus far. (No, it's not a novel, and it's written just for our own enjoyment, not necessarily meant to be read by others, so that massive word count is okay!) The other 2% of my writing are my solo projects. I'm a much better co-writer than I am a solo writer, and they are worked on much more sporadically, but I love them all the same. I have many ideas and I've dropped them just as quickly as I've discussed them! I'm a rather flighty solo-writer who is constantly juggling several ideas both novels and fanfictions. There are two WIPs in particular that have stuck around however, and that I talk about the most on my blog.

While tragic, murders are commonplace enough in [Fictional City] that no one blinks an eye when they are reported on the six o’clock news. The victims had nothing in common, so it was largely believed to be the work of separate killers, unrelated and commonplace. Except for one tiny detail: Every single victim had been a part of a wedding party the month prior to their death. Two private detectives were hired to investigate separate incidents, two different murders. When it becomes apparent that this trail of wedding murders has one culprit, it was only natural for them to team up and work together, because two heads are better than one. The only problem: They are rival detectives with differing styles that clash and find each other insufferable. When clue after clue lead them to dead-ends and false information, they are forced to confront the reality that they need to do something drastic to pin down the culprit. Pretending to be engaged and planning a fake wedding to lure out the killer seems extremely out there, but if they can survive a fake relationship, perhaps they can bring down the killer once and for all. It’s a crazy plan, but it just might work. Because if there is one thing for certain… The victim is always the bridesmaid, and never the bride.

There was laughter when she was all alone, she overheard arguments in empty spaces… She’s not losing her grip on reality however. The earth remembers. It remembers the conversations, the laughter, sobs, and the shouts. It’s called place memory, and the places whisper and repeat them out loud so that nothing is ever truly forgotten. Anyone can hear it — all you have to do is listen and pay attention. Most people can’t hear place memory or ignore it because they’re too distracted with their own lives, but Brooke is listening now, and she’s paying attention to every murmur. People are disappearing in Antium. At first it seems like no big deal — just a college student skipping town — but one by one, more people go missing.  It’s the Bay Witch, the locals say, the Bay Witch is snatching people away just like she did in the past; it’s happened before. Could it really be a local legend that’s responsible for these disappearances, or is there something far more sinister happening in Antium? Using her newfound discovery of place memory, Brooke and her friends start unraveling the truth behind the Bay Witch and missing people from over a hundred years ago. Little do they know, learning what truly happened back then may pave the way to them finding the missing people in the present.

I finally graduated in June 2021 and I've started to miss this AU, so I'll attempt at easing myself back into it! This post serves as a (re-)introduction to it. You'll find the premise and Content warnings under the cut after my short intro!

PREMISE: Virgil is a rebellious harpy with problems that follow him even when he tries his best to escape them. While on the runaway from his group, he injures himself and ends up in Patton and Logan's care. These two, the former a cervitaur healer and the latter an undine, run a small refuge in the woods where they take injured creatures and nurse them back to health. But oh boy, they're soon gonna realize that Virgil is no ordinary patient of theirs.

Meanwhile, further north from where our young harpy has fled, plans are finally ready to be executed. At the center of them slithers the chief of the mythicals' "rebellion army", a certain Lamia known as Damian. Whatever he has planned, it's gonna bring trouble for the whole world around and above everyone.

Let's hope "Sander's creatures" can keep Thomas safe.

Opportunity comes in the form of an anonymous acceptance letter at Undine Academy for the Recently Disposed, with an offer attached: Survive a semester and return to Vivire with your record wiped clean.

malakai cordova, 18, he/him | ren’s twin brother who may or may not absolutely detest his sister. enjoying the fact that he’s now technically the favorite child a little too much. made a deal with a demon to enhance his lacking necromancy abilities & is perpetually suffering for it.

yael orinthus, 21, he/him | fourth year at undine. there’s a rumor going around that he’s a lost prince. the only person in history who chose to come to undine rather than be persuaded or forced into it. extremely talented at absolutely everything, which means ren hates him.

Forget 2nd question: This is mainly due to the early intro of Dizzy where she looks like a demonic being in her intro it doesnt look female. Which brings us to? What exactly is that Demonic Dizzy? Necro?

Your original question was still valid, in that you asked “If Dizzy (or other Gears) could change their Gender?”

Gears can “transform” insomuch that their bodies act as the “weapons” they are programmed to be able to utilize, this is also related to their “weapon system programming” which is buried deep in their subconsciousness.

Just like Animals have “Animal Instincts”, Gears have much the same, but is manufactured to function based on weaponry which relates (again) to their abilities to transform their limbs and other body parts in to weapons.

However, Gears are “limited” by what they were built for.

In Dizzy’s case… based on what little evidence we have, she is supposedly a “backup genetic copy” of Justice… meaning she is a carbon replica (either through gene inheritance or by manufactured means) of the woman whom Justice was based on: Aria Hale.

While Dizzy herself looks nothing like Aria, she still inherited some amount of female traits from Justice seemingly.  History suggests no one actually knew Justice’ true gender until she was actually killed, nor do we know with certainty if Justice’ true kin is Dizzy by birth (suggesting a manufactured Gear could even get Pregnant!).

At any rate, regarding Dizzy, much of her powers are defined by her subconsciousness… and her “Guardian System” (Necro and Undine) reflect this in their appearances.

Necro, to some degree represents her own anger, violent instincts, and fears.

Undine, by contrast represents her “ideal self”, sensibilities, and hopes.

There is a “third Guardian” in the form of Dizzy’s Tail… but not much is known about her Tail, as to whether or not it’s a personality or just another “mouth” for Dizzy to a limited extent.

Because the Guardians have their own personalities, Dizzy only has a limited amount of control over them as you might expect, but she can still exert her control if she focuses on her powers in earnest.

That said, let’s take a look at this “Extreme Form” that Dizzy seems to take under extreme stress and duress:

I’ve taken the liberty of enhancing the silhouette of these images, but you’ll note this form has a pair of horns, (and Dizzy’s original Gamma Ray was actually Necro transformed in to a Dragon).  This form looks very similar to Sol’s Dragon Install.

Though very slim and slender, it suggests her body has scaled armor and a face very similar to that of Justice’ slim face/jawline in shape.

You’ll also note the tail and wings were “recycled” for Order-Sol’s Dragon Install animation frames.

Given what Justice looks like without her armor in GGXrd, and compare/contrast with Sol’s Dragon Install in GG2 Overture, Dizzy’s form is very slender but probably not too different from either (because most Gears were derived from the Gear Prototype… Sol Badguy himself).

It’s also funny to note that Dizzy is still “very small” in her Gear-form, contrasted with Justice in her “massive body” in GGXrd Revelator (not to mention Justice’ Cradle form that hovered over Babylon).

Lastly, compare/contrast the above with these between frames from Necro Install (an EX mode ability Dizzy had some time ago):

Note that, in the first image (when Necro takes over Dizzy’s body), it seems to have a very large forehead with spikes in the back.  It doesn’t exactly look like the horned form from before, does it?

It might just be a discrepancy on Daisuke’s part as it’s a between animation frame, anyhow… but now take a look at the second image.

While this silhouette more resembles what we know Dizzy to look like, it’s also very slender and almost Elf-like (note the shape of Dizzy’s Ears), not to mention the clawed feet.

Ishiwatari has never actually been consistent when it comes to Gear transformations, or even Valentine forms for that matter… even Dragon Install has taken several forms throughout the series, so we don’t even know what Sol will look like in GG Strive!

Even illustrations of Justice have been different over the years too… so take these forms with a grain of salt.

Lastly, I’ll show you some animation concepts that contrast slightly with these images:

In the first concept, Dizzy’s silhouette is a lot rougher and definitely meant to have a demonic shape… but it got adjusted to the sprites we’ve seen since then.

The second image is an animation concept from Necro Install… notice the flaming hands and raised wings and slightly different poise… This is Dizzy at full power, folks!

And while much of these concepts might be considered “scraps” that didn’t make the cutting room floor… You can still see much of what wasn’t used is still utilized in other ways later on.

Like Dizzy’s Heavy Slash:

Dizzy’s Wing has gotten a lot prettier and elegant since we first saw her, so I think her forms reflect her own mental maturity and state of mind (not to mention Ishiwatari’s artistic whimsy).

Testament seemed to understand Dizzy’s transformation the most in that he said she was (at the time) very afraid of and distrustful of humans… so her transformation reflected this.

Even Sol, who frequently calls himself a “monster” seems to transform in to said “monster” based on his own fears, anxieties, and as Asuka R. Kreutz’ put it: “Frederick’s Karma”.

So really, these forms mostly reflect the mental state of humanoid Gears, though again, keep in mind not all Gears can dramatically transform like this… only some of the more powerful ones can.

Elphelt once stated she wished she could transform in to some dramatic form, but apparently it was beyond her power to do so.

And while some Valentines/Gears can turn in to massive Airship weaponry… others are just ordinary girls with extraordinary powers.

Given that Dizzy gave birth to an Egg (Sin Kiske) when she became Ky’s Wife, though… it’s more or less semi-expected that she would be a female (though in rare cases aquatic lifeforms have bent the rules a few times).  Regardless, Dizzy identified as a “she” (as in Awe of She, her original theme!)

New to writeblr? Want some tips?

I am really not qualified to be giving out writeblr advice, considering I’ve only been on writeblr myself for just over a month, but for some reason a lot of people have been coming to me asking? I don’t mind whatsoever, but I thought it would be cool to make up a post to suggest some resources I’ve personally found to be immensely helpful!

UNDINE’S ADVICE [MASTERLIST] - By @pens-swords-stuff​, this includes an absolutely astounding amount of really good general writing advice, as well as a section for new writeblrs! Everything I’ve seen of Undine’s has been extremely helpful for me, especially the posts about things that I normally wouldn’t have thought about (like writeblr etiquette)!

Where do I start? - An ask answered by @cogesque​, this gives a list of wonderful advice Cog has typed up in the past, and I’ve read through each and found it to be incredibly helpful when I was starting out! Cog’s experience with coding has also led to a truly awesome guide on making wip pages!

How do you make a wip page? - @lady-redshield-writes​ answered an ask on this topic a while ago, but in addition to having some marvelous advice here, she links three other advice posts at the bottom that other writeblrs have typed up on making wip pages!

And I guess I should try my hand at giving some advice, too? I don’t know how much weight you should put to my words, since I’m also pretty new, but, here we go! Because this is getting pretty long, it’ll be under the cut~

Make a writeblr intro! Not everyone has, and you certainly don’t need to in order to get your name out there, but it really helps! My tips? Tell us a bit about yourself, about your writing history and genre preferences, and let us know some things about what you’re currently working on!

Want more writeblrs to follow for inspiration and advice, or to interact with? Make a “writeblr hunt” post! That’s what I call them, I don’t know what other people do. This is basically a post that tells people to reblog it so you can check out their blog! You can request specific genres or writing styles, or you can just go for general writeblrs! In addition to getting more writeblr stuff on your dash, it also gets your name out there!

Have something up about your works on your blog so people know what they’re following you for! If they see what you have to offer, they’re more likely to follow and become a part of your audience! This could be a wip page, wip intro, wip masterpost, some snippets of your writing, some moodboards/aesthetic edits/character intros, etc! (Quill themselves is completely guilty of basically having none of these, but you know~)

Be organized! Tag your posts so people can find them. If someone stumbles upon your blog and wants to find your original content, they could search the tags to easily find it!

Be active! Set up a queue of other people’s works, reblogged advice, original content, whatever you want--but have things to post. And post frequently! The more people see of you, the more likely they’re going to want to learn more. This isn’t a requirement at all, but it can really help to build up an audience quickly!

Interact with other people’s works! Reblogs especially, comments are even better! If people see someone in their notifications a lot, they’re going to want to see where this curiosity is coming from, and that can lead to them checking out your blog and becoming curious in your own works! Also, if you comment on other’s posts and it gets reblogged by someone else, your comment is still there, and now it’s being shared. Now a bunch more people can see your name, and your enthusiasm!

Just be nice! Be polite, be friendly, let people know how much you love their stuff. I know I personally tend to love someone’s work so much more if I know them to be a nice person! It’s not necessarily purposeful, but sometimes a colder personality leads to a bad taste in my mouth, and even if that person has the best skills ever, I may be less inclined to like their work.

Hi! How do you start a writing blog like yours? I’m curious but don’t know how to get started.

hey nonnie! how are you?

a blog like mine... i’m going to take that you mean a writeblr haha. it’s pretty easy! the first thing you have to do is make a blog (pick a url you’re satisfied with, a custom theme / aesthetic if you’re into that though it’s not entirely necessary) and then - dun dun dun - write an intro post and proceed to dive into the wild seas of writeblr! hmm... i think @pens-swords-stuff has detailed posts on how to get going as a writeblr (and really for any one new to the community i strongly recommend that you check out undine’s blog + advice masterlist - it’s fool proof and incredibly helpful lmao). and yeah! 

i haven’t been posting much recently - some things irl has got me on the low so i’ve been writing a bit more privately temporarily as a result - but the key really is to have fun and enjoy being creative with everyone else in the platform. it’s a very welcome and open community, so it’ll be chill. if you’re looking to join us rest assured we’ll be more than happy to have you!

The Tuesday Writeblr Review: Intro!

Good morning, Folks!  Welcome to The Tuesday Writeblr Review introduction post!  

I first brought up this idea with the fantastic @livingdeadwriteblr, my co-host for this project, because I wanted something similar to Storyteller Saturday or Wip Accountability Sunday to encourage actually writing, updating our wips, and interacting with each other that is available to people who are very busy on weekends, such as myself!  Let’s get into it, shall we?

How it works:

Respond to THIS POST in some way to be added to the participation list!  

Being on this list is what will let your fellow participants it’s okay to send you asks & otherwise engage with you under the umbrella of this project on Tuesdays!  Being on this list will also put you on the taglist for weekly wip update compilations and a monthly post of fresh asks to pick from!  

(Of course, you are also free to ask your fellow participants questions off the top of your own head!  It’s all about making progress on wips and starting conversations, my friends.)

We encourage you to interact with each other on Tuesdays and take the rest of the week to make some progress on your wip and post an update, the update just needs to be posted BEFORE the coming Monday and have both me (@lookslikechill) and @livingdeadwriteblr tagged in it to be included in the wip update compilation post the next Tuesday!!  That is the way it will work each and every week, as well.

SHE is known as THE RETICENT. most people call them RESOURCEFUL, but also watch out they can be DIFFIDENT. SHE came here searching for their soulmate who is ANY FC 21+. and are on the isle searching for a person matching their birthmark that looks like a PLATINUM ALCHEMIC SYMBOL.

elodie is presh, let me just start out by saying that in the first damn place. but let’s take a closer look, shall we?

first a little history about undines. they’re born without souls. in order to get a soul, they have to fall in love with a human (myths say male, but screw myths).

but if the human is unfaithful, the human dies.

so basically, undines have a choice: live forever as an immortal, or get a soul and have a shorter life on earth, but an eternal soul. which... i mean, no brainer.

so elodie was always looking for love. sort of doe-eyed and innocent, she always believed that true love existed and she was going to find it or die, she’d just die.

she was about fifteen when she decided to peel away from her family, who insisted that she stay with them forever. you know how those teenagers can be.

she traveled the world, sort of getting by off of the kindness of others, always a little hopeful that the people she met would be the one, but it didn’t happen.

she was living in etna, california near a little pond when she got her letter. she’d been working on the farm of a family of supernaturals who were willing to let her do some odd jobs in exchange for a place to stay.

so she bid them adieu and now she’s here, ready and willing.

this is her chance, she feels, and she’s so prepped for this moment. she can’t wait to meet her soulmate.

the possibilities for connections here are pretty wide, since she’s been basically around the world and back.

look. i suck at intros, but i’m here for plots, so let’s  make some magic together. i’m so excited to be here!

WIP Pre-Intro | Always The Bridesmaid

Title: Always The Bridesmaid (Or possibly, Always the Bridesmaid, Never the Bride)

Genre: Murder mystery, romance

Current Status: Brainstorming

Synopsis:

There’s been a string of murders. While tragic, murders are commonplace enough in [Fictional City] that no one blinks an eye when they are reported on the six o’clock news. The victims had nothing in common, so it was largely believed to be the work of separate killers, unrelated and commonplace.

Except for one tiny detail: Every single victim had been a part of a wedding party the month prior to their death.

Two private detectives were hired to investigate separate incidents, two different murders. When it becomes apparent that this trail of wedding murders has one culprit, it was only natural for them to team up and work together, because two heads are better than one.

The only problem: They are rival detectives with differing styles that clash and find each other insufferable.

When clue after clue lead them to dead-ends and false information, they are forced to confront the reality that they need to do something drastic to pin down the culprit.

Pretending to be engaged and planning a fake wedding to lure out the killer seems extremely out there, but if they can survive a fake relationship, perhaps they can bring down the killer once and for all.

It’s a crazy plan, but it just might work. Because if there is one thing for certain...

Did I create an entire WIP because I came up with the phrase “the victim is always the bridesmaid, and never the bride” and it absolutely consumed me? Why yes, yes I did.

Welcome to the pre-intro of my newest WIP! This is considered a pre-intro because the information in this introduction is all I have for this so far. All of this information is subject to change as I brainstorm more about this WIP. I literally came up with this yesterday and tossed it together, it is very much in the beginning parts of the process. 

You may have witnessed me coming up with this WIP at this post.

Right now, I am thinking that this is a WIP that I will very publicly plan on my writeblr — you can expect to see much more inner musings, thoughts, and random headcanons as I slowly build this up. I welcome thoughts and feedback, so your comment could impact how I write this WIP!

What you can expect to see from this WIP:

A fake relationship and a fake wedding between the two main characters.

A rivalmance between a bisexual man and a bisexual woman.

Worldbuilding of a ‘soft’ AU that takes place in a fictional town of the real world, where private investigators have more power and influence than our world.

A lot of ramblings, thoughts, and headcanons as I come up with them in real time.

Eventually character intros, worldbuilding information, and snippets as I write them.

A ton of graphics, because I have discovered the fun of creating fake wedding invitations.

And other things, I’m sure!

ok I guess I'll take back the part that I'm sure you didn't mean to be transphobic. I just read your ask about Undine dating people using they/them pronouns. like......first of all pronouns and gender are not the same thing. and to me, a trans nonbinary person, it is transphobic to write queer characters who don't date nonbinary people.

Undine is a character who doesn't understand that gender and pronoun usage is different. This is a conversation you can have with her. I want her to be a representation of someone who isn't aware of what being LGBT means, and what exactly that can mean as far as pronouns, gender, sexuality, etc. That's the single, only reason why her no is tentative. She will be available to MCs who use they/them pronouns, just not immediately because she doesn't understand. I apologize that my wording was not correct on my ask.

She's a bit like me, in that when I was learning my own identity and attractions, I didn't know those sorts of things, and didn't understand the community I was about to become a part of.

I am a part of the LGBT community, and I am aware that pronouns and gender are not the same thing. Undine, as a character is not.

I apologize if my ask/ intro post has come across as transphobic, and I will be updating both accordingly.

Writeblr anon again! Thank you for the answer, and the advice! I really appreciate it. One more question, if you have the time; would you say writeblr (overall, obviously you can't account for every individual) was fairly welcoming? Maybe it's just because I'm a bit anxious, but I'd be worried people might be annoyed if someone who wasn't pursuing writing as a career or the like tried to engage with the community? Hello again! I'm glad I can help! The writeblr community is very welcoming and encouraging. It's one of the things I like most about it 😊 I have no plans to write a novel and definitely haven't touched my story in a few weeks, but that's fine! There's no stress and no expectations.

One thing that will help you get more into the community is making an intro post to you and your blog. This way people know more about it right off the bat. I had this blog for a week before I made a writeblr intro, but when I posted it, people connected!

On @pens-swords-stuff Undine has a whole bunch of advice on how to tag things as well as general etiquette which she explains better than me. Check her out!
