Palworld arguments and how to deconstruct them (+ common misconceptions)
Instead of making call-out posts targeting specific people like an SJW tumblrina in need of attention, I will provide general counter-arguments everybody can use within the Palworld discourse. I am sick and tired of AI-art getting normalized, this issue is getting out of hand and we must spread awareness for the sake of artists everywhere.
YOU ARE ENCOURAGED TO EDUCATE PALWORLD DEFENDERS, BUT DON'T ATTACK THEM PLEASE!
Without further ado, here common arguments by Palworld fans and how you can deconstruct them.
1. "So you're defending a multibill. corp?!"
This is a common argument used by Palworld defenders. Within their narrative, Pokemon designs are a direct product of their Nintendo (the multibillion dollar company in question) and you're totally bootlicking them if you're pointing out the obvious plagiarism - as if the very heads of Nintendo were the ones creating the Pokemon designs... The truth, of course, is that individual artists provide these designs FOR Nintendo. Instead of "taking from the rich" like Palworld fans claim, their game actually steals from these artists. Hence, those who call out Palworld aren't die-hard Nintendo fans as much as they are people who simply call out plagiarism in defense of artists. I would even go as far as to add that people who defend PocketPair (the developers of Palworld) and those who buy the game just for the sake of controversy (yes, it's been done) are themselves adamant defenders of a corporation. Since they imagine others to be blindly defending Nintendo, it's bordering hypocrisy.
2. "It's not plagiarism"
If you show a Palworld defender one of Palworld's character designs and the Pokemon it's based on, they will in some cases start pointing out the differences between the two in order to claim there's no plagiarism involved. This is easy for them to do because the Palworld design you showed them isn't quite a rip-off of a Pokemon, no. It's actually the rip-off of TWO Pokemon. In fact, most Palworld designs tend to use the model of one Pokemon and some features of a other, along with some final alterations that are unique. Once you point this out, it's easy to notice on most if not nearly all Palworld designs. Here is an example that comes with a visual analysis, provided by @RaphDesLandes (a gamedev!) on X:
Tumblr media
3. "There's no proof of PocketPair using AI!"
Not only is there proof of it, but that same proof shows that the devs run servers for AI programs, the same which they use for their game "AI Impostor", a game in which the core mechanic is the use of an AI-image generator. Here is the most flagrant example (I hid the developer's name because I'm not that kinda guy).
Tumblr media
Of course, I don't blame people who didn't know this. It's far from being common knowledge amongst Palworld fans, after all. That's why it's important to spread the word though.
4. "Gamefreak should'a made better games!"
It's not a secret: Nintendo and GameFreak have been letting us down with the recent Pokemon games on the Nintendo Switch. From poor writing to bad graphics, many fans (myself included) are unsatisfied. Palworld players praise the games' quality, claiming that it's existance is justified by the fact it's programmed better than recent Pokemon games. While it's understandable that one would want to play games with superior programming, it doesn't justify plagiarism (they could've just made a Pokemon fangame or a mod), and, well... it's simply false and doesn't apply.
Here is a link to a tweet showing one of Palworld's game-breaking glitches.
Not only that, but Palworld is mostly made up of Unity Engine assets, and it's controls are wonky. They're reminiscent of Garry's mod, which came out in 2006, except Gmod is faster.
5. Bonuses
-evidence of PocketPair using Pokemon fans' art to model their characters after (post by @onion_mu on X)
Tumblr media
-every Palworld-Pokemon lookalike (source unknown but reposted by @hejibits on X)
Tumblr media
-and also: deconstructing the (partial) myth around Palworld's success on Steam
Tumblr media
Lastly, it's important that I point this out, even if it's unrelated: Pocket Pair devs have received death threats. This is unacceptable. I encourage everyone reading this to create an online-environment where people discuss and debate with rationality, rather than such shameful behaviour. To me, people who send others death threats are no better than thieves, so please stay respectful!
Thank you for reading 🖤 Please let me know if the link on 4. doesn't work or the post got taken down!

HELLO??? THE SPRITES??
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
THIS SASSY FUCKER, UNDYNE TOLD THEM "SURRENDER YOUR SOUL" AND KRIS WAS LIKE "Okay but actually what about no", I HAVE SOOO MANY COMIC IDEAS THANKS TO THIS SECTION I'M PAUSING MY UNDERTALE RIBBON COMIC BECAUSE I JUST H A V E TO GET THEM DONE
Ejem
I believe Kris wasn't even planning to actually surrender their soul because they now they're gonna die anyways, they just did this to scare off Undyne and get time to play teather kid, do their little cool speech and jump into the new unknown world fully knowing Susie and Noelle will follow
I really like their take on Kris here and I also like how, in the fangame, they're getting more and more control of themselves after talking with Susie and Noelle, they got their eye and started to emote more I love how they took action and just jumped onto Sans, I would've killed him if it wasn't for the lore, going back to kill him tomorrow
They didn't put the soul back on before jumping so I believe we're not controlling Kris for a little part in section 4, or maybe they will talk with us, I'm REALLY looking forward to the next update!

it has occurred to me that i've never actually explained what zampanio. is? here
like, i reblog things with zampanio all the time, but i've never actually explained what that means lol
so ok uhhhhhhh 5 am crimson rambles go
ok. so there's this game, from like, the 70s or 80s i think, called zampanio. no one knows what it's really ABOUT besides that it's supposedly really fucking weird. there's also no documentation about it too far in the past, because apparently stuff about this has a tendency to just. disappear. and the people that KNOW a lot about it seem to either vanish or fly off the fucking handle. which is already wacky enough. but, like, the main thing about zampanio is that since the source material is so unknown beyond, like, the vaguest vibes, there's a billion different unrelated fangames about it with nothing in common besides some vague thematic elements? like, there's zampaniosim, which is this massive sprawling network of god knows what that has like, twenty billion different fictional characters from other games in it i think? i heard something about magnus archives and lobotomy corp and i don't understand most of it but it seems very cool. and there's also some rpg maker game someone made called zam2anio? and i played it for like 10 minutes and it's incomprehensible but in the best way. and there's also this discord server that is like, also a puzzle or something? and that's its own thing? and also leads into other things, maybe??? it's insane. but the really cool part is that since the source material is just. Not. you can kinda just go hog wild with different things in different fandoms and have it still be A Zampanio Thing. i'm currently retooling a mario fanfic i came up with literally in elementary school into A Zampanio Thing. it doesn't matter what fandom you're in, you caj make it zampanio. it's genuinely very cool and unique and i like it a lot. i'm not very caught up on a lot of the individual things people have been making but the vibes are immaculate and it ends up making this massive nonsense patchwork of a fandom that somehow all fits together, and just, it's the best
so yeah, go check out zampanio if you haven't already, look it up, play/read/look at some of the stuff people have made, maybe make your own zampanio thing if you wanna, you won't regret it. probably. unless you turn into a monster or something, except actually if you did you probably wouldn't regret it anyway because you'd be a monster so whatever

Ghost really is like a Asian mascot. Even the official sources treat them like one (see Fangamer Japan's exclusive merch of them!). Heck, Ghost even looks like one San-X (Japanese company that makes mascots to sell in merch) franchise of mascots. Sentimental Circus! Check them out on Google and I promise you the semblance is uncanny. That's why I agree that Ghost not only doesn't look, nor act like a child. They look like a adorable mascot character. Even a pokemon lol. And mascot characters aren't always kids. Some are literally just creature with unknown origins. Rilakkuma for instance, is hinted to simply be a... costume... a man in a costume... or just a costume come to life. Japanese mascots have such varied backgrounds! So don't be surprised when a lot of Asian people don't really see Ghost as one.
That's really informative anon, thank you for telling me! I genuinely had no idea about it (and now feel really bad because goddamn I was an ass. Like, we already know that, but fuck dude). It does give me a lot of insight into why people might have that interpretation of them and has unironically helped me understand a lot of fanart that sort of blew over my head before. Like, straight-up I didn't understand why chibi characters were a popular thing until now, which is embarrassing to admit to- I thought it was just a quick way of drawing a character in a cute manner vs like, a wholeass art style. In which case, yes, Ghost fits that criteria exactly.
As context for why I didn't make that connection at all: I had zero information about how mascots worked in Asian countries, that they were actual characters and that there was a preset understanding that they aren't child-coded because of proportions. I knew that they existed, but I assumed that they were more like branding mascots and sports mascots (which I also don't know about jsyk, so I'm probably sticking my foot in my mouth here), where they're just a face to stick a name to for better recognition of that company or team, ie designs that have no actual characters to them and thus no meaning beyond 'product' or 'sports team'. I was also working off of the (very westernized) art idea that certain proportions were used to indicate ages instead of it being a stylistic choice, which further limited my understanding. That there's way more to it and a far different perspective is super cool
Either way though, I appreciate the insight and thank you for explaining it to me! It opened my eyes to a new perspective on art and I will be sure to remember it in the future.

Finally, a Faye Moreau questionaire for the @sonic-oc-showdown!
✨- How did you come up with the OC’s name?
At first, it was just "Faye the Fox," because she was an independent character. Then I thought of giving her a family, so I wanted to have a family name, so I chose "Moreau*," a surname meaning "black-haired" in French. I chose "Faye" because it was a very soft-sounding name and I liked it.
[*I looked it up again to double-check and it actually means dark-skinned. Now that doesn't make any sense! Faye's family is very very white. One of the very few times I actively make the choice to white-code my OCs. There are reasons for this.]
🌼 - How old are they? (Or approximate age range)
Faye is 8 years old, same as Tails.
🌺- Do they have any love interest(s)?
No.
🍕 - What is their favorite food?
Grandma's meatloaf!
💼 - What do they do for a living?
She is a child and does not work, but she does help Mother with chores in the basement sometimes.
🎹 - Do they have any hobbies?
Faye loves dollmaking and taxidermy. She also loves to play pretend and make up stories, as any child does.
🎯 -What do they do best?
She has a genuine talent for dollmaking and sewing in general. She has a nack for the tiniest of details, probably in half thanks to her abnormally small hands.
🥊 -What do they love to do? What do they hate to do?
Faye loves playing in the garden and collecting materials for her dolls. She doesn't like doing chores for the house, though. Or fighting 1-on-1.
❤️ - What is one of your OC’s best memories?
The first time she ever had to help with dinner.
✂️ - What is one of your OC’s worst memories?
The first time she ever had to help with dinner.
🧊 - Is their current design the first one?
Nope! This clay figure of her is her oldest design--
Tumblr media
She still retains most of her features, but this "Beta Faye" has an oversized bow instead of a tiny hat, a ribbonless black bow on a white bib, and no purple trimming on her black dress at all! She also has black ear furnishings and is missing her heart-shaped ear tips.
🍀 - What originally inspired the OC?
Sonic Forces and Little Nightmares. One of my first fangame ideas was a horror game inspired by LN. I still have a game in mind for Faye, but it looks very different compared to how it used to be then.
🌂 - What genre do they belong in?
Psychological horror.
💚 - What is your OC’s gender identity and sexuality?
Unlabeled. She's a little girl and hasn't been thinking about those things yet. Also, with the way her family reproduces, she never needs to worry about boys.
🙌 - How many siblings does your OC have?
Quite a few, it's hard to keep track. She's the youngest, though.
🍎 - What is the OC’s relationship w/their parents like?
Mother can be quite strict and a little mean, but she's nice to her. Mostly.
🧠 - What do you like most about the OC?
She's a weird little freak and has a nice and simple design that's easy to draw.
✏️ - How often do you draw/write about the OC?
Pretty much never, which is a shame. This is the most I've talked about Faye in a while.
💎 - Do you ever see yourself killing off the OC?
Not really.
💀 - Does your OC have any phobias?
I suppose a fear of the unknown, funnily enough. Her family is incredibly xenophobic and paranoid about the outside world, unfortunately.
🍩 - Who is your OC’s arch-nemesis or rival?
Tails, I guess, with the current storyline I have for her.
🎓 - How long have you had the OC?
A few months at least, maybe even a whole year. She was one of my first Sonic OCs.
🍥 - What age were you when you created the OC?
Around 15. I'm 16 now, will be 17 in a few months.

DISCLAIMER!
These reviews are my informal thoughts and opinions purely and by no means are they meant to harm the creators in any way, shape, or form.  I love OFF and I love the OFF fandom, I wish nothing but the best for these creators and I respect them for their hard work. Thank you for your understanding.
Tumblr media
CLUELESS is one of many fangames made by Zachariecide. It is a very short game that serves as one of three sequels to another game called UNKNOWN. In it, you play as the Batter. After waking up on a monorail next to Zacharie, you are forced to solve a mystery involving a strange, horrific phenomena and many, many deaths if you are not careful. Now, one might ask why I decided to start in non-chronological order. Well, this is for a very simple reason: CLUELESS is, in fact, the first OFF fangame I've ever played. Many years ago, I was introduced to the OFF fangame community through playing this title, so it holds a special place in my heart and if it weren't for it, I wouldn't have met the wonderful friends I still talk to today.
That all being said, this game goes in....odd directions.
Due to how short the game is, it's difficult to review without spoilers so, uh- anyway I'll try not to spoil much.
Tumblr media
Clueless throws you right in after a brief warning about gory narratives. You start off on the monorail and things immediately go downhill for the Batter. Have fun, champ, go out there and solve the mystery! Oh- your friend's dead? Oh uh- okay- hey wasn't that a different room before? Ohh....oh dear...
There are so many. Deaths. In this game. The starting area alone has at least two ways you can get a game over right off the bat. To be honest, half of the enjoyment is finding how many ways to get a game over there are. It makes me think of The Witch's House a little in that regard. Thankfully, the game lets you save any time, as well as gives you prompts to save at certain points. Speaking of saves, the game comes with save files already packed in. I am not sure why these were left in.
So throughout the game, when you examine certain things or talk to npcs, you get clues. They take spaces in your inventory and you can "examine" them to get a reexplanation of the clue in question. It's like the Batter is taking notes on a pen and notepad. I actually thought this was pretty cool! I'd imagine you'd use them to solve puzzles or as "keys" to get through obstacles. Sadly, none of the clues are applied in such a way. At least, I tried where I thought it would make sense to and nothing worked, so I assume it's just a system to remind the player of certain topics but with no further application. Oh well. Game play wise, there's very few combat encounters so most of the game is spent speaking to npcs and exploring the limited areas. I personally don't mind this as I don't really care for RPG maker combat.
It's hard to talk about the story without spoiling anything, but my opinion of it is that it didn't have much room to breathe. You aren't given much time to ponder what's happening before it's revealed to you and the answers to questions I do have about much of the game simply do not exist. Why is everything trying to kill me? What is the red mansion..place...thing? And why is there a smutty fanfic and why DOES THE BATTER WANT TO KEEP IT-
Tumblr media
Overall, I feel rather neutral about it. I definitely enjoyed it more when I was much younger and played this for the first time though. I really feel that the clue mechanic was a missed opportunity.
Anywho, I hope you enjoyed my rambling! Until next time!

Hi!
It's the game anon again. I hope you are fine, or that it will get easier for you soon.
I finished the fourth part of Diverted Route. It was incredible, I really liked how you pushed farther the concept of deshumanization and how even with help, sometimes people are just too late and it is harder to heal. It is really well written.
I also began (and almost finished part 2) of Off the Rails. I want to read your previous works to work up to the more recent ones. I find it amazing. I could see at first the differences in your writing style, but it was as much compelling as Diverted Route. I loved this new concept, all the story you made around it, and really liked how you wrote each relationship (the strain of the time, separations and life threatening events).
Now, I am slowly beginning your fangame, and I have a few questions on Diverted Route. But maybe, if it is alright with you, I could DM you about those?
Have a better night/day, and week!
Hello again!
That's very sweet of you. I'm having a hard time in my personal life, admittedly, but I'm doing my best to get through it.
I'm glad to hear you liked it! I really enjoyed getting to write that alternate look on how things might go if things took a little bit longer and got a little worse.
I'm also glad to hear you're liking the older works as well! I've gone back and read through them occasionally, and you can definitely tell where my writing style has changed (and improved, I think). When I started writing Unknown Tracks, I hadn't written anything in over two years and that was the first fanfiction I ever wrote, so my skills were pretty rusty. It's kind of amazing how much that's kickstarted my drive to write, and even if I still haven't done much with my original works, I feel like it's been great for my mental health as well as my writing skills.
I am very excited to hear that you're working on it! You can absolutely DM me about it, and I will gladly answer any questions I can!
I hope you have a lovely day as well!

Title screen mockup for a Deltarune fangame I've been working on Below is a synopsis and more art
To start with, it's actually two games but the first one is meant to be a small and relatively simple introductory (appetizer) game that the title screen is for [named Home for the Holidays] that starts off the concept and narrative... and a little extra something. Then the second one would be the real game [pending name], kind of like how the Survey Program worked for Deltarune proper.
The central concept is an AU where Dess also has a controllable SOUL and is now the playable character rather than Kris (but they're still controlled by their own SOUL/'player' too). Basically, due to extenuating circumstances, the doe's body and SOUL now have similar properties to a human's.
In the introduction, December Holiday has been murdered on her college campus, but she is brought back to life by an unknown benefactor. Dess goes home without memory of these two events, only to find that several years have passed since she left for college to pursue a musical career and everyone believed she was either dead or missing the whole time. To her, it'd only been a day.
Home for the Holidays is about her learning of and coming to grips with her own disappearance that she knows nothing about (and the changes wrought while she was gone like her father's hospitalization), whereas the main game is set a few weeks after when Dess has mostly reintegrated back into Hometown's populace and has adventuring in the Dark Worlds like Deltarune.
Design-wise, it's worth noting that Dess has Asriel's jacket on (it's too big for her) and she has her hair down in the introductory game. After that she has all her own clothes on and her hair is up in a ponytail, like the rest of my drawings/sprites of her indicate (some seen below).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm not much of a coder or musician but in other respects this has been a fan project of mine for some time now (if you couldn't tell) so I may hopefully be able to do something with it in the future if there's interest

Send me a Fandom ask meme: OFF including all of the fangames you have experienced, we're curious.
ive played a lot of fangames but some may be excluded because i dont remember them too well! (csr is one that immediately comes to mind, along with inter/intra/extra/add. pretty sure thats what it was? cant seem to find it)
nonetheless lets go. ancient ask game with an ancient interest of mine
The first character I first fell in love with:
well thatd be the judge! his design is likely what drew me to the game in the first place, but i cant remember for certain
The character I never expected to love as much as I do now:
valerie and japhet, theyre a package deal because uh you know (but homes valerie is my favorite)! his unfortunate fate has always been compelling to me, a little bird using a cats corpse as a meat puppet blew my mind
The character everyone else loves that I don’t:
uhh huh its difficult to inherently dislike someone tbh? i feel like zacharie is a cop out answer but he kind of is, i think early tumblr has wildly misinterpreted his character including some fangames. not quite the answer you were seeking i bet but he does come to mind
The character I love that everyone else hates:
okay who is actually hated though. does erebos from home count because i think i was the net one person who was incredibly obsessed with him. not Hated but definitely swept under the rug, right?
The character I used to love but don’t any longer:
tough. i want to say csr ghost batter tbh, as ive gotten older his language usage has gotten stale to me. also most characters from unknown.
The character I would totally smooch:
this phrasing is silly. biting is more appropriate and family friendly for this blog. so...
inhales
roland gaius blue/white dream batters maybe regular batter and also executioner and sucre and lugosi and probably the computer at this point why the hell not and (im taken out back and shot)
The character I’d want to be like:
tbh i wished i looked like 365!puppeteer irl . also erebos because computer. and malachis little bird minions, and probably malachi himself, and valerie for good measure
The character I’d slap:
literally all of them at least once except Literally hugo. no im not taking criticism
A pairing that I love:
thog dont caare (there was one pair of lesbian cats that i liked when i was Younger but i dont know how i feel about ones creator atm, so)
A pairing that I despise:
battery (intentional misspelling) is only good when its funny and rest assured it isnt. people only shipped them because they needed two humanoid men to bang. borink.
