Recently on Reddit I learned that there is a dating/friendship site just for a-spec people! It's called AceSpace. I wanted to share it here to help spread the word to anyone who might be interested.
It does not follow the swiping model popularized by Tinder. Instead you search all users (with filters)! There no limit to how many people you can like, match with, or message. There is also a built-in social media feed that anyone can post to. Because of the small community, it's a very relaxed place.
All the main features are free, and they're going to stay that way. Anything you have to pay for is either purely cosmetic or not necessary to enjoy the site.
You are not required to have a profile picture, although that is strongly recommended, but it doesn't have to be a photo of you. One of your pet, or a Picrew, or something like that is fine! You are also not required to use your first and last name.
Right now it's browser only, but a mobile app version is in development.
It's pretty small at the moment because it's fairly new, so don't expect to find 50+ people in your area. I think right now word-of-mouth is the main (or only) way people are finding it.

Aromantics and anyone on that spectrum

Okay, let's go through this one tab at a time!
Home:
This is the social media feed I mentioned earlier. So far my experience is "it's like if Facebook wasn't full of old conservative people, unfunny memes, and clickbait." Which is to say it's mostly life updates, asexual memes, and "Hi! I'm new here." Everyone on AceSpace is allowed to post here.
When you post, you have to option to specify that the post is relating to one of your interests. It's the button inside the text box that says "AceSpace". Only people who have the same interests on their profile as you will see these posts. For example, if I change it to "crochet" only other crocheters will see it on their feed.
You can filter your feed by your interests and your location, but some locations and interests don't have any posts right now.
Discover:
This is where you find and match with people! Since the userbase is pretty small, searching all users is not as overwhelming as it sounds. Especially once you have a few filters set the list of people will become much more manageable.
On the left, there's a sidebar with the current filter settings. By default, the filters are set to what you specified you're looking for on your profile. But you are free to adjust them as you wish.
If you set your profile to relationship only, only people looking for relationships will see you in search results. Same with friends only. So if you're only there to make friends, you won't have any people who don't stop to read trying to flirt with you.
Right now most of the userbase is in the US and UK, but there's a handful of people in other countries.
Messages:
Pretty self explanatory. Just your standard DMs. No limit on these, nor do they expire or close after a certain time.
My Profile:
The profiles have a ton of room to give a detailed description of yourself, your interests, and what you're looking for in a partner/friend. You also have more than one text box to fill out, and you can title those boxes whatever you want! Although there are preset titles to get you started on what to write.
On the right is a sidebar that gives the basics for what you are looking for in a partner/friend. Specifically age, gender, and their repulsion-favourableness towards sex and romance. Unlike for your own attitude, you can set this as a range. (e.g. Indifferent to favourable towards romance.) If you want to get any more specific in what you're looking for, you will have to write it out yourself in one of the bio sections.
The rest of sidebar gives basic details about you, so you don't have to write them out in your bio. Not just gender and age, but your physical build, your education level, your feelings about marriage, your interests/hobbies, kids or no kids, your preferences with long distance relationships, your political leanings, how much you do or don't drink, and more.
VERY IMPORTANT: DO NOT LEAVE OPTIONS BLANK
Let's say you're indifferent about marriage. You'd be happy with whatever your partner wanted to do. So you just leave your feelings about marriage blank/as prefer not to say. Well, unfortunately this means anyone searching for "does not want marriage," "open to marriage," or "does want marriage" won't see you! Sadly, there is no way to say you feel indifferent with these options. The closest thing is "open to it."
So if you want people to find you, fill out all the options if possible.
(I'm only bringing this up because I've seen so many profiles where people only filled out half of the options. Or just the required ones. So I don't see them in search results unless I clear almost all filters, and the same goes for everyone else on AceSpace.)
Okay, but what is it like to use AceSpace?
I've been on there for about two or three weeks, and I'd say it's pretty slow paced and easy-going. You don't need to constantly check it or always have the tab open unless you're currently messaging someone.
The busiest the feed gets is one post every 15-20 minutes, but usually it's about one post an hour. I'm able to fully catch up on all the overnight posts in like 5 minutes. So yeah, you could easily just check in once or twice a day and be fine.
So far I've only had one person Like my profile and send me a message, but they never got back to me. (They might have deleted their profile, actually.) But! I'm not losing hope. This is pretty standard to see on any dating site. Lost of people come and go and come back again.

What is this?
This is a collaborative story about Hubert von Vestra from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. The goal of the game is to help Hubert have a perfectly normal day without too much excitement or fanfare.
The story progresses based on the results of the poll at the end of each chapter. The gameplay is intended to emulate old text-based adventure games (and, yes, Homestuck).
Mostly, this is an excuse for me to draw stupid stuff.

In each post, words that appear in BOLD CAPITAL LETTERS have definitions in Hubert's JOURNAL. How will the story play out?
I have an outline for the story. To the best of my ability, I'm going to try and keep it on track, but I'm leaving most of it to the winds of chance. If things start to really get off-track, I may eliminate the write-in option and just give three preset choices, but here's hoping it doesn't come to that.

When does the game update?
The game will update after the current poll has expired and whenever I get around to drawing and writing the response. I'm making an attempt to turn things around in 24-48 hours after the poll ends, but who knows how long I'll keep that up.
Note that many of the pages for game mechanics, such as the JOURNAL and Mind Wasteland, are updated almost as often as new posts are made, depending on how the story plays out. You might want to keep an eye on those.

What knowledge do I need going into this game?
The game is set just over two years after the end of Crimson Flower.
There may be references to events that have happened in my post-war fanfic series, In the Days After. However, you don't need to have read the series to know what's going on in the game. Hubert will also keep notes on anything that is relevant in his journal and you can reference the information there.

pepperidge farm (@bethanyactually) remembered and i found a website that still lets you create them in a post-flash world, so i have created an updated version with star trek captains.

you can hit "-" once you get there to take away the background image (the highest tile you have hit) which makes it easier to see and play!

Hello all! Since things have seemed to be pretty smooth sailing, the mods of the Lair of Apritello have decided to open back up the links! We decided not to reopen the old links, but we'll be posting new links ^^
Just to reiterate; the Lair of Apritello is a 16+ server with a focus on the rise iteration of the turtles and Apritello; tho that's not to say other versions of the ship are shot down! It's just that a lot of people on the server preferred TMNT iteration is Rise, and so that's the version mostly talked about. We do not ship-shame and are very open about different ships within our comfort zone. We heavily believe in cultivating your own online experience, which is why we have certain channels separated for certain topics!

Tried Carrd.co for a portfolio site:
PROS:
Flexibility, options
Content types (I need captions, video, embedding, etc. The $20/year tier has this — that's a fair price)
Relatively easy, sort of. (see cons)
CONS:
Shadier Terms of Use than ArtStation's now (see below)
→ Why I was looking for a substitute in the first place. It doesn't make sense to jump to worse ToS.
Back-end UX:
→ The way it handles pages as "Sections" using #Control — this will get ugly, FAST. Containers can't be nested.
→ Again compared to ArtStation's site builder, it's more of a pain. Not worth the trouble or resources: Nowadays people hardly visit personal sites. Even as an Art Director I vastly prefer templates when looking at portfolios — easy to use, functional.
While I was working on Carrd, it was suddenly booted offline for a "violation".
→ That's what prompted me to look closer at their Terms: I hadn't violated anything. Support responded fast, said it was a mistake and put it back. But just like when Tumblr randomly deleted my page, this doesn't give me confidence in the service.

Ex-Formula 1 star Ralf Schumacher believes underperforming Aussie Daniel Ricciardo's journey as an F1 driver is over - as it looks like his young compatriot Oscar Piastri is lined up to replace him at McLaren next year.
The messy saga began earlier this month when grand prix legend Fernando Alonso announced he will be taking Sebastian Vettel's vacant seat at Aston Martin.
Underperforming Australian veteran F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo (pictured at French Lenovo F1 GP in 2022) has been on the end of a dire prediction by a former star of the sport
Ex-Williams and Toyota Ralf Schumacher believes Ricciardo's F1 career is over
Alpine quickly announced that Piastri would replace Alonso in 2023 after serving as the team's reserve driver this season, only for the 21-year-old Aussie F2 champion to sensationally reject the seat.
Ricciardo, who is reportedly in talks to reach a financial settlement with McLaren that would cover the early termination of his contract, has been linked with a return to Alpine as intense speculation swirls over his future at the British team.
Numerous reports have stated that McLaren want to get rid of him before his contract expires at the end of next season, citing his poor performances in 2021 and 2022.
However, Ralf Schumacher believes the French outfit will be spoiled for choice when it comes to drivers and 2022 will be the last season for Ricciardo in the premier class.

'The names are there, with every cockpit,' Schumacher told Sky Germany.
'Mick [Schumacher, Ralf's nephew] has also not yet signed a contract. Therefore, he would be a candidate. A candidate with speed, as you have seen.
'Nico Hulkenberg is also still in the starting blocks. And then there is the question of Daniel Ricciardo.
'Personally, I can't imagine that he would get another chance in Formula 1.'
Piastri has copped a lot of flak over his bold move, but Schumacher doesn't blame the Aussie for the scandal surrounding who will drive where in 2023.

'If you have such a jewel, it is criminal to let it go. If you are not able to design the contracts correctly yourself, then you cannot blame the young man,' he said of Alpine's situation.
'One thing must not be forgotten: Piastri's manager Mark Webber has a very, very close connection to McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl.'
It's been a very tough season for Ricciardo, who has only scored 19 points so far, while his McLaren teammate Lando Norris has scored 76.
Ricciardo has remained upbeat and has even received support from some unlikely places.
A photo of pop star Harry Styles wearing a Daniel Ricciardo shirt did the rounds on social media channels, exciting many F1 fans.
Officially, the Aussie is under contract with McLaren until the end of the 2023 season.

I realized the image I had attached to the "Failure of Asian Lois Lane" essay of Vicki Vale's concept art expired (because of discord shenanigans) so here it is again as its own post (and I'll update the essay's link to go to this post instead). Discussion under the cut for why I think this is distasteful and racist.
So some people don't understand what I mean when I say I consider this concept art racist. The description to Vicki Vale's character reads: "40s, FEMALE, INDIAN-AMERICAN OR ASIAN AMERICAN". When people say "Indian American or Asian American" what they're telling you is they consider Indian people a separate category from Asian people. However- Indian people ARE Asian people. Indians are grouped under South Asian people. Therefore they are Asian.
This is a common colorist idea that Asian people are only limited to light-skinned East Asians (Chinese, Japanese, and Korean people)- completely excluding South, Southeast Asian, West, and Central Asians. Here's a terrible comedy bit Ronny Chieng did for the Daily Show displaying that very colorist mindset. Notice how the description for Vicki specifies "Indian" but is vague about what "Asian" means.
I don't know if this concept art is taken out of context, and if there were multiple iterations of what Asian Vicki Vale would look like- but as far as what this image presents, this full body design that ended up making it to final is the only iteration. Are we to believe this design was meant to encompass what "Asian American" and "Indian American" Vicki Vale were supposed to look like? If they decided she was going to be Indian, were they just going to color her with dark skin and call it a day? Are Asians that interchangeable to the crew that they didn't feel the need to design more versions of her? I truly don't know. And it's still possible that this is one page out of context from several concepts. BUT this show already doesn't have a great track record for stylizing ethic features- and it hasn't stopped them from monolith-casting Asian actors for their Asian characters.
I mean look at how they ended up designing a supposed South Asian woman on the show. Livewire/ Leslie Willis is voiced by Zehra Fazal, a South Asian woman. Many people had no idea Livewire is South Asian. I mean she's got blue eyes and blonde-white bleached hair?
It doesn't help that she stood next to this character who is also dark skinned and blonde-haired- so people assumed they were related and therefore assumed Leslie was Black. It's not my place to say, but I have seen some Black critics being critical of how characters like Jimmy were stylized.
Overall this show's artistic direction is a mess when it comes to race. We can't keep looking up the characters' voice actors to get confirmation on their ethnicity (with that logic, Sam Lane is Filipino despite his daughter in-show being Korean)! The character design or story should make that clear for you. If POC representation was simply up for debate or a matter of interpretation, then you're not representing anyone at all.
This is why I think the show is simply not equipped to tackle POC representation but especially Asian characters. If this is the kind of language and art style that is normalized behind the scenes to developing Asian characters, can you see why I'd be suspicious of any future attempts at tackling "more explicit Asian representation"? I don't believe the showrunners are racist. However I wouldn't trust them with representation either.
It wasn't until I wrote that essay that I learned Vicki was "Asian". It wasn't until now as I write this post that I learned both Steve Lombard and Roughhouse are "Asian" (we'll never get specifics, naturally). I knew both characters were voiced by a Chinese actor (Vincent Tong), but I didn't think for once that that translated to the characters he was voicing.
this show feels like a personal attack on me at this point. For the record, I'm not asking for Vicki, Leslie, Steve, or Roughhouse to have storylines informed by their Asian identity. If anything I consider these characters so superfluous to the plot MAWS wants to tell that these guys should be removed all together (the most frustrating of them being Vicki, who's yet another Asian American character who's explicitly xenophobic to Superman). What I am saying is that I should still be able to recognize these characters as Asian!
