Danny is so, oh so very tired about the amount of marriage proposals that popped up in front of him. Not even a day past his announcement as Crown prince either.

He's thankful that neither of his four parents are pushing him towards accepting it, but it's everyone (besides his friends of course) else who either try and subtly suggest it or outright asks him if he's chosen a spouse yet.

He's only 14! He doesn't need a spouse! And they were probably far older than him too!

Even Vlad of all people took some kind of pity on him and just decided to be a normal (for a billionaire) guy who isn't trying to kill his dad.

...However, that doesn't mean he wants him to seduce him either!

If he wasn't majorly burnt out from the number of proposals he has to sort through, he would most definitely throw him far across town, away from his dad and mom.

He needed to find a way to stop all of these letters that just keep coming, and fast. He doesn't know how much longer he could take of reading fancy script over and over and over again, his eyes already hurt enough.

He tried to ask his Father for help, his only response was to choose a consort that he saw fit to stand alongside him. Then he had to flee before he gushed about his pops.

He asked his pops, who only said that the answer would come to him in time. Which was of no help whatsoever.

He asked his mom, she at least tried to help somewhat. Giving him some equipment to ward off any ghost who would try and forcibly take him as a consort, which had a low chance of happening considering his strength, but he was happy about it regardless.

He then finally asked his dad, after making sure that vampiric leech isn't near any of his human parents. Surprisingly, he had a pretty good idea of what to do.

He was a halfa, wasn't he? Why limit himself to just ghosts? Surely, due to his half-human status he could choose someone near his age among humanity.

Well, not in those exact words, but it was a great idea regardless! Plus, they never did specify if he had to choose a ghost consort anyways.

Now he just had to decide who to pick, really. His two best friends are out of the option, they're close, but not in that sort of way. Plus, Sam is busy with Undergrowth and Tucker bonding with Technus who was apparently apart of his family tree somewhere along the line.

Then, when he was sorting through the letters and was sure his eyes were about to bleed from reading so many fancy words, he felt it. A tug in his chest, gently urging him somewhere, and you know what, it's way better than what he was doing now, so he answered.

He felt the clothes he was swearing in that moment fade into away into the outfit he wore for his coronation. A suit, a crown made of the coldest ice from the Far Frozen, a cape made from the stars along with various little knickknacks made from various gems and a veil hung over his face.

He looked pretty good, if he says so himself. Though he didn't and still doesn't know the purpose of the veil.

He appeared in what looked like an event for a high society party, most likely filled with various rich people. He floated up and quickly looked over the people and released a sigh of relief that Vlad wasn't here, say what you will, but he doesn't fancy meeting with someone who's actively trying to seduce his dad.

He folded his arms behind his back, trying to imitate the imposing figure of his father from his place in the air, looking down at the cultists(?) below who summoned him.

"Who dares summon me." He stated, rule number one, statements hold power, questions do not. The cultist below fell to his knees, either out of devotion or fear, he didn't know.

"Oh, Prince of the infinite, we called you today for the sole purpose of serving this world to one of your standing, please let us be your servants and spare us when you plunge the world into ruin!" Ah, devotion, then. His eyes bore into the woman (from the sound of her voice) below, his silence working well to unnerve her and the other guests.

"Hm." The reward was already stated, but he neither wants too nor will take over the world. "Denied." It was short, swift, and to the point in his books, he thinks he's doing well acting out Pariah Dark!

"B-but my liege, the king-"

"What the king has been known for in the past, has nothing to do with me. You dare to assume something about me, lowly human." The human below him was actually fully blown shivering, now, slamming her head down onto the floor and shouting out a number of apologies.

Rule number two, do not take back requests you have already denied.

Ok, now he feels bad, that probably hurt a lot. But he's already come this far so-

"Is that the only reason you have called me, or do you require something else. Much of my time is not something you can afford." The woman was most undoubtedly about to say something, probably more apologies, or maybe something else, but the sounds of fighting reached the room and the doors slammed opened, the body of a cultist(?) flying through the air and the appearance of what were most likely heroes.

"Well?" He let that question slide, the cold around the room descending around the woman below as a bunch of other cultists tried to fight off the heroes.

The woman seemed hysterical with worry, most likely not wanting to go to jail, perhaps. She quickly took her head off the floor and tried to stand up, almost falling back to the ground but managing to find her footing. "M-my liege, please help us!"

He tilted his head. "And as to what, would you give me?"

"The sacrifice, yes! The sacrifice!" The woman quickly pointed below him, and only then, did Danny realize there was a boy bound below him, only to be met with a glare.

Danny hummed. Yes. That will do. "It shall be done."

Danny waved his hand, ice sprouting from the ground to force the heroes and cultists apart and then blasting a hole through the nearby wall and to the outside, a path of ice leading down to the ground. "Go." He commanded, the woman nodding her head quickly and calling to the others and disappearing outside, he then blocked off the hole with ice.

He then slowly floated downwards, besides the bound human, ignoring the shattering of ice and footfalls of no doubt the heroes trying to stop him from what he was doing. He leaned over the boy- about his age- and asked one question.

"Do you wish to become my consort?"

you know video games, and you know vampires, yeah? whats the best vampire in a video game in your opinion?

Pardon me while I take advantage of the fact that "best" is a nebulous adjective.

If we take "best" to mean "the most closely fit to an archetypal vampire"...

I gotta go with the obvious answer: Castlevania's Alucard.

Isn't he a dhampir? Shouldn't it be Dracula?

Paradoxically, Alucard's condition as a dhampir makes him closer to an archetypal vampire than Dracula. Vampires are often used as an allegory for liminal identities - an AB person who can neither fit into group A because of their B traits nor fit into group B because of their A traits. Being only part vampire doubles down on this trope, and we occasionally see Alucard grapple with this, whereas Dracula is far past the point where he's struggling with his separation from humanity.

Besides, can Dracula do this?

Further, it might just be because we're playing as him, but we get to see Alucard doing a lot more vampire-things than we see Dracula doing. He's got bat form, he's got wolf form, he's even got the oft-forgot mist form and he sleeps in a coffin. We can presume that he inherited those things from his father, but Dracula's more likely to take on a war form more commonly associated with werewolves than that of the humble bat.

that would have to be Sebastian LaCroix of Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines fame.

Everyone else on this list plays nice- LaCroix treats people as playthings. As a character you are not meant to sympathize with, he's allowed to embrace the cutthroat-but-genteel nature of a vampire that protagonists can't. He's afforded the luxury of being a monster and that is a luxury he will indulge. Even though we don't see him drinking blood or flouncing around in a cape, he goes so overboard being a manipulative little leech that he has to take the top spot.

He's also the only one here to do the most vampiric thing of all - being undone by one's thirst.

I'd be remiss not to mention Valvatorez, best (and only?) vampire in the Disgaea series.

As one might expect from the Disgaea IP, he's a bit of a trope inversion; he's sworn off blood and he's only interested in power if it can be used to help those under his rule, but that's what makes him so lovable! The only king I stan is one who properly understands noblesse oblige. Instead of being the usual "powerful friend with a tragic cost", he's unflaggingly the friend who wants to make YOU powerful with the only drawback of probably having sardine breath. On all thematic points, he fails to live up to vampiric standards, but that reflects poorly on the standards, not on him. In a just world, all vampires would use their age as a source of wisdom to be shared and their strength as a means of helping up friends in need.

My first post… enjoy the last day of 2022.

Pile 1:

I feel like this pile goes through phases of feeling motivated and then almost utterly hopeless, maybe even end up spending the whole day in bed due to overthinking… some of you might even be under or overeating due to this. I’m getting at this time it’s very important to take care of your mental health because it might be affecting your guts or nervous system… you can reach burnout as well. Some of you might’ve even recently been in a manic state almost, ups and downs, crashing hard. This is my pile that might have high hopes and dreams, you might already romanticize your life or grew up thinking like that, maybe even was a maladaptive daydreamer… but I’m getting due to trauma, low self esteem, or being in the wrong environment and/or crowd you might like I said go back to feeling utterly hopeless. I’m getting a vision of somebody at a party… it’s almost like everybody sees the spark and potential in them and they’re standing somewhere alone downing a bottle or smoking. Pile 1 I’m getting you might make people around you feel hopeful or give them this “spark” where they see life in its beauty and color once again while people are you make you feel hopeless, so you could have a lot of energy vampires or “lose souls” around you and I’m getting it’s draining to you. I’m getting another vision of you guys sitting on a bed… the scene makes me feel exhausted, like something bad just happened or I just reminisced on the past, maybe cried my eyes out and then just lay there numb unable to “care” to do anything. The advice for you is to do something new in a new environment, right now you need that fresh perspective but it has to be from a new experience pile 1, you’re not gonna get that refreshing feeling from being in that same room or around those same people and for some of you I heard “trap house” so you might be staying in a trap house… and I’m getting the message of if this is the case these are probably acquaintance or friends.. not family. Pile 1 I’m also getting somebody around you that you can put your trust in but you seem to be pushing them away… maybe try going to them for advice or doing a activity together, they’ll be reaching out soon so you’ll know who it is, they might have something to tell you rather than a casual conversation. This conversation might make you emotional? It could be a case of getting emotional and it doesn’t even have anything to do with what you’re getting emotional over. Last hint about this person is they like the color red. You’re going to be okay not only due to your strength and ability to regenerate but because I see you always had a sense of self preservation that protects you… even when you’re being reckless I’m hearing! Lol. This might be my witchy pile as well. Last message because I didn’t mean to make it this long is you give off a manic pixie girl vibe off to a-lot of people. Extra: feeling abandoned, spending birthday alone vibes, crying till you can’t no more, charms, shaking hands, party, intent, New Years kiss, sports, guitar, running, coffee shop, new iPad??, shaking hands with the devil, therapist, weed, sex, city, cleanse, mental illness.

Pile 2:

Now i usually encourage people not to think of the past but pile 2 I’m getting you need to dig deep and remember memories and times where you were at your most powerful and empowered. You need to remember what that feels like and embody that energy, it’s almost like somewhere along the way you let somebody strip you of your identity I’m hearing or “distract” you from who you are?? I’m also getting some of you might’ve felt like a poser regarding something you did majority of your life or at a young age. Pile 2 do you have people toying with your mind or putting you down and feeding you negative ideologies about yourself? If so, please cut that bullshit off now. You deserve so much better, I gotta remind this pile to not settle for less. Also I’m getting that you might downplay your energy a lot to make people around you more comfortable and I’m gonna have to ask you to cut that off as well (maybe some of you have Scorpio/Plutonian/Martian energy here, intense and uncomfortable). I also think some of you almost feel insulted reading this pile because you got this hard exterior and might even be in denial, “I would never let somebody take away who I am or toy with me”, I understand that I really do but I think you sometimes do so for the comfort or sake of others because it almost seems like the easy route or not having to deal with others. I’m only mentioning this because the themes popping up here are almost things that you might think only “weak” people deal with and this pile energy is very fierce & out there, definitely not the type to back down from a fight. This is because you’re the type that likes to deal with your shit alone pile 2, this is a admirable trait but I’m everybody needs a community. I’m also getting your soul family and future community will be stronger than ever, almost like a pact, literally. Spirit wanted some of you to know that because you might’ve gotten so use to doing this alone you accepted this is just how life is meant to be but that’s not true. Get out there and be yourself pile 2 so you can attract the right people for you, this might not be immediate but you could end up in a certain environment, wether a job or a party or college “group” I’m hearing that could put you around the people you’re suppose to be working with in this lifetime. Another thing is scripting right now will do wonders for you when it comes to manifesting, check the alignments and especially where mercury is transiting in your chart because I’m seeing this is the most powerful manifesting technique at this time. Some of you will be going home to visit or moving out from where you currently live, if that doesn’t resonate then you will be visiting a old hometown or just reconnecting with your origins. Extra: goth, assassin, creatures, swimming in the deep end, activist, guns, flowers, bikes, pretty eyes, tea, ocean, fashion industry, travel, musician, warmth.

Pile 3:

For this pile I’m getting a lighter energy! This might be my dualistic people, people might say you have two sides to you… are you a Gemini or Pisces pile 3? Just like pile 1 I’m getting people view you in a dreamy manner… you seem different to a lot of people and this might make them curious about you or wanna learn from you. You might even be in a environment opposite to you, wether this is cultural beliefs or race or gender… something about you stands out, this could even just be your personality. You might even have heavy Jupiterian/Sagittarius energy in your chart. I see you don’t dwell over things for too long and if you do, it damn sure doesn’t show. I don’t blame people for wanting to learn off of you because I get one of the things you constantly wanna do is learn or find a way to help yourself out. You might even consume too much information at once and overwhelm yourself. This is my thinkers pile! (Makes sense I said Gemini as that’s mercurial energy). Despite you being so logical I see you have big dreams pile 3, for some of you in particular you got a certain long term goal or one that takes a long time, this could be career related. Spirit wants you to know this is something you will accomplish within this lifetime but the timeline with which you do depends on you. The longer you doubt yourself or waste time participating in activities that move you further from your goal the longer it will take. & despite her losses, she rallied to take back her land & drive out her oppressors. baseline, she is a strong, cunning, powerful indigenous woman with a deep love for her community and her people. HOT

now let's look at Jasper, a bright leader in the Civil War who suffered defeat at the hands of the Union army. yes, María changed him. but did she force him to stay? to go to war? the newborn vamp with the strength & speed to overcome a "grown" vamp chose not to do so. the empath with the power to make anyone disregard him chose not to use it. some say María was "abusive" & "manipulative," but few acknowledge that Jasper had a choice.

why didn't Jasper leave? because he's submissive to anyone more powerful than him. because he was a loser. because the Southern Vampire Wars gave him a second chance at victory. because "empath" or no, he wanted to play war & win.

that's what's compelling about Jasper/María. as wrong as Jasper was for fighting for the Confederacy, he believed he was fighting for the same thing as she. he saw his way of life destroyed by "invaders" & fought back. it's a sick & twisted parallel between oppressor & oppressed that becomes subverted as their relationship goes on... & one that can heal them both.

María's experience with colonizers gives her a visceral picture of what it means to be oppressed... but her relationship with Jasper gives her the victory & emotional reflection she needs to move on. Jasper's military training gives him the hunger & knowledge for war... but his "curse" of empathy provides him with the tools he needs to recognize & address the horrors of his problematic past & move on.

tbh, i find Jasper & María are perfectly suited for a delicious character-driven narrative. Maria's story is that of a traumatized indigenous woman on a path from colonization to decolonization, & the sacrifices & destruction she endures realize that vision. Jasper's story is that of a troubled man on the path from self-hate to self-love, & what it means to undo the societal teachings/traumas & forge a life of empathy & forgiveness.

& that is something Alice alone can never give Jasper.

gosh idk how i could pick. as i said in the previous answer, i try to leave off on a high note. Truth in Melody or perhaps Promises to Keep. wouldn't say they're happier than others, but they're among my longest fics, which means the characters had to go through some bullshit to get those happy endings lmfao

a couple times. more often, i get weird / uncomfortable comments that i just ignore

i do! well, i'd say "kinky" tends to be a general theme ahahaha and feelsy! smut in my chaptered fics are more basic, the oneshots can be wild though. and then there's from the depths, an ancient song, where i wrote a foursome involving a LOT of tentacles. like a lot. so take that how you will.

ive dabbled in ideas, but rarely get around to actually writing them. i do like the concept of smashing my favourite universes together, though. my dbh vampire series is basically just the lore of vampire: the masquerade, but i wouldn't consider it a full crossover

it certainly has its place and can be done well! but it's easy to mess it up, too. you need to make sure it's accurate and fitting for the scene, you need to avoid racist stereotyping, you need the story to still make sense and flow well. if the message isn't clear because most readers don't know the language, or have to keep looking it up / reading author notes, that's immersion-breaking imo. with fictional languages where much of the fanbase is familiar with the common words, though, no big deal i'd say

honestly i think it was the cartoon, angry beavers lol i didn't know what's what i was doing, at the time. as far as serious, intentional stories, maybe firefly? or xmen?

previously linked Winter Chill and Summer Bloom: this is very hurt/comfort, my favourite thing, with a bunch of my other favourite things tossed in. touch-starvation, non-verbal character, characters getting away from the location of their suffering to heal in a better place, both physically and mentally, sweet slice of life stuff etc.

take these broken wings and learn to fly: more h/c! this one starts off heavy as hell and involves a lot of Process of Healing (to no ones surprise, at this point). healing has gotta be one of my favourite genders. also it's femslash.

Sight & Shadows: it's both plot- and character-driven, i'm happy with how i balanced both simultaneously. it's my vampire au, and other than the v:tm lore borrowing, it feels almost original to me. it's a rarepair, in an au--as niche as it gets, shaped a lot by the universe and story i put together for the whole series. it was a joy to create, because i truly did write this for ME. i wouldn't say any of my fics were written for others, per se, but i guess this one just felt different from the start. i wasn't anticipating an audience, i was just telling the story these characters needed, the way i like to do it. i had great friends supporting me through it, so i wasn't alone in the process or anything, it just felt the most like writing an original story than any of my other fics have

into the light of the dark black night: first of all, yes, 2/4 fics listed here are titled with lyrics from blackbird by the beatles. blackbird lyrics means intense feelings, that's just how it is. i've done it twice, and ill DO IT AGAIN. anyway, this one takes place in one of dbh's grimmest possible endings--the nuclear blast ending. i did a lot of research for this one, and also put a lot of thought into handling it with as much care as i think a concept like this requires. it's weighty, but hopeful. it has apocalypse elements, which i love. i got to do cyberpunky stuff as well. i added some of the elements i think dbh would have included if d@vid cage weren't a coward. i projected multiplicity onto some of the characters. i got to write north as the steadfast and successful leader of the revolution, as she deserves. blackbird fly <3

I tend to not have angsty endings. I think the closest I came was "Words I'll Never Say". Stefan is heartbroken, Damon is brooding. Even though they're comforting each other, it's still sad.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Most of my series are on-going one shot series. I think of the stand alones, "Turkeys" or "Stef" would be the happiest. Damon and Stefan just being happy, lovable brothers.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I have in the past. At this point, I just let it roll off my back. But it really doesn't happen too often. Usually just once in awhile when people don't read the tags and then are shocked that there's agere, spanking or something similar in the fic.

9. Do you write smut?

I used to. Kind of want to get back into it, but it'd be on a different pseud.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Well, I have fics that are TVD & The Originals, which is sort of a crossover but they're in the same universe. At one point, I may write a 9-1- 1 & Lone Star crossover and I do have plans to include Private Practice characters in "But I'm An Avery". But again, same universe so nothing crazy. I'm not a huge fan of crossovers from different universes. They can be interesting, but often just not my thing.

No. I have had people translate my fics without asking but given they credited me, I wasn't too upset.

Ha, see above.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

A very long time ago. It's honestly not my thing. I give people who do it credit. I've found it very hard to merge ideas. My co-writer and I ran into an issue where unintentionally, we'd just take over and write against what was agreed upon. So, it's not something I'd do again.

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

Snow Queen from Once Upon A Time, hands down. From the fandoms I currently participate in, Haylijah and Tarlos have my entire heart. (Even though I don't write about Tarlos haha)

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

Most of my fics right now are one-shot series so they don't really have an ending. I have a ton from my old account I wish I had the ideas to finish. On this account, I do wish I could've finished "I've got you brother", as I liked writing about physically de-aged Stefan. But I sort of retooled that into "For a shield from the storm", so I'll likely never return to the first.

I feel world-building and descriptions. I know some don't like world-building but it's so much fun for me.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I am the queen of run-on sentences. I know somewhere my creative writing prof gets a twinge every time I use one. I also know for sure that sometimes my characters are OOC.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I've done it. I try to branch outside of Google Translate. I think it's fine, so long as you include a disclaimer, translations somewhere (usually author's notes) and are willing to have native speakers correct you. Which I always tell them to do when it comes to my fics.

here is my latest Armand/Daniel fic. pure smut with spanking, so maybe don't read at work

Daniel wasn’t good.

He was snarky and challenged Louis, challenged Armand.  His displeasure had been clear.  Daniel had fully given up on the hope of getting his dick wet by the time he went to bed.  There was no way that Armand would come to him in his mood.

He’s wrong.

“That’s up to you, Daniel,” Armand answers, reading his mind.  “First, you have to take your punishment.”

Going to keep this going with vampires now. What got you so interested in vampires in the first place? What are some of your favorite vampire tropes? And your least liked tropes? And what are some of your favorite vampire media/characters? And your least liked vampire media/characters?

Oh gee, I just ranted so much over yanderes the other day, time to rant about another one of my special interests! Just keep in mind that I'm not as informed about this trope (...species?) as I am about yandere characters, so I'll just be talking about my subjective interests!

Again, this will probably get pretty long so the rest will be under the cut!

What got you so interested in vampires in the first place?

...Would you believe me if I said I got into vampires out of spite...?

Once upon a time, I consumed uhh copious amounts of indie chicklit stories on sites like Wattpad and Inkitt. There are some tropes more popular than others on those sites, and one of the most popular was werewolves/omegaverse. One or two stories was fine, but I wasn't a huge fan so I struggled to find things I was interested in. So then I got to thinking... where are the vampire stories?

It reminded me of when Twilight was popular and so many people had those vampire vs. werewolves fan wars. I never got into Twilight (only ever watched the first movie) but in case you couldn't tell, I like vampires more lol

I just think that sucking blood from someone is rather intimate and awesome. And the angst potential of not wanting to be a monster, but having to search out blood to survive, of not wanting to be feared or hunted, but knowing they'll never belong anywhere is unmatched. Wolves travel in packs, but vampires are often lonely people - many of which don't remember what it's like to be human anymore and I am eating it up.

Oh, to be an innocent human maiden who wanders into the decrepit mansion of a lonely vampire lord... sighs dreamily.

So yeah... I got into vampires thru chicklits!

What are some of your favorite vampire tropes?

I want my vampires like I want my yanderes... full of misery and contradictions. I love it when vampires can't easily go out into the sun (yet yearn for the light), I love it when vampires don't want to drink blood (but they can't help themselves), I love it when vampires stay trapped in the past (because both their minds and body cannot age anymore.)

To give some specific examples from media...

In the Once Upon a Broken Heart trilogy (also know as the Magnificent North trilogy) vampires are former humans who have been Turned after getting healed by a vampire bite. Vampires have two different kinds of bites - one that is for feeding and one that is for Turning. If a human who is Turning feeds soon enough, then they'll Turn into a vampire, but if not - while their wounds will be completely healed - they'll end up falling into a deep sleep for a while. Vampires in this series are creatures that act on their impulses, and with stronger speed and strength, it's not hard for them to do so. The only problem is that they cannot go out in the sun, and... they spend all their time chasing the things they cared about when they were human, because their minds are in perpetual stasis. There is no maturing to be done when you cannot grow anymore. Plus, for a fun twist, the legends behind vampires are cursed, so that no matter how horrific they should be, humans are always more intrigued by vampires than terrified. Which is... pretty accurate to how I feel about them lol

I also really like the vampires in The Vampire Diaries (series, I guess?) What I like most is that because the series is so long, the supernatural creatures in this world are given a lot of depth. Vampires are quite selfish creatures by nature, and usually only care for their own survival. Their faces change to more resemble a monster when they're feeling bloodthirsty - and for some, if they start feeding, they can't stop. Additionally, drinking vampire blood can heal a human from even the worst injuries, but if they die with vampire blood in them, then they'll Turn into one. Vampires in this series can show up in photographs and mirrors, they're fine with garlic and crosses, but they do have plenty of weaknesses. A wooden stake through the heart (or simply removing it altogether) will kill one. They will burn in sunlight unless they have something like a ring enchanted with witch magic with them. Werewolf bites are toxic to them. They cannot enter a building without being invited inside (as a side note, I love how in-depth the series gets with this restriction. Like public buildings are okay, but for private property, only the one whose name is on the deed or their dependents can invite vampires in. Once they get an invitation, it cannot be revoked until the deed changes hands. I love little details like this.) An herb called vervain weakens them, and any blood from a human who has ingested vervain does as well (and also makes them immune to compulsion until it wears off.) Of course, vampires as blessed (or perhaps cursed) with super strength, speed, reflexes, compulsion (simple mind control), and are ruthless by nature, but when humans know how to deal with them, they are rather low on the proverbial food-chain... which means that staying hidden is important. Of course, the Originals (or "purebloods," so to say) play by different rules, but the point is that there is a lot more to vampires in this series than just creature that sucks blood and can be killed with a stake. And I'm a sucker for little details like that!

Unrelated to any media, but after watching The Vampire Diaries, I couldn't help but want a buddy cop series with a vampire (specifically one with the same strengths and weakness from TVD) in it. Like, what's the name for those cop shows where there's a straight-laced detective who ends up having to team up with an eccentric consultant who's weirdly good at getting answers but pretty bad at dealing with people? That's my favorite flavor. Can you imagine that, but with a vampire who can use compulsion to grab answers, struggles to be at a crime scene cuz of all the blood, is speedy and has great reflexes, but also has to deal with vampire hunters? And the detective could maybe be someone who is committed to justice but doesn't quite know how to deal with their supernatural partner. I dunno, I've never gotten very far with this idea but I would love to see it.

Wow, I feel like I got carried away with that question uhhh onto the next one!

What are your least liked vampire tropes?

This doesn't just apply to vampires, but I'm not a big fan of soulmates or mates. (Probably why I don't really like werewolves all that much.) I prefer when couples are given a choice if they want to be together, instead of being a predestined thing. So something like a vampire being able to only drink one person's blood doesn't really appeal to me.

That being said...

チョコレートヴァンパイア (or Chocolate Vampire) is a good exception.

In this series, there are blood contracts that humans and vampires can form. This makes it so that the vampire can only drink that human's blood and no other vampire can drink their blood. This is a contract usually formed due to mutual love, but there are cases of vampires abusing these contracts to control humans (which is one of the conflicts in the series.) I find this series very interesting, because it has the appeal of mates, but also includes choice. (Also it's just a really great series, I highly recommend.)

What are some of your favorite vampire media/characters?

Oh boy. I'm not sure if any specific vampire characters jump out to me, but here are some vampire media series I love! Some that you may not have heard of before too!

The Vampire Diaries. I already talked a lot about this one so I'm not going to add more. Just, I know it's long. I know the fandom can be pretty toxic. I know some seasons are just pretty awful (god, I do not like the last season.) I know all the characters are just kinda horrible in their own ways. I know some parts just haven't really aged well. But it's interesting, the drama is fun, and it's got plenty of spicy moments. Recommended if you like TV shows and are looking for something to binge!

The Honey-Blood Beauty & Her Vampire (available in English!) is a fairly short series (only four volumes iirc) about a girl with honey blood (blood that is irresistible to vampires) and her vampire bodyguard. It's a fun, somewhat spicy read, with a bit of revenge thrown into the mix. Recommended for those who want a short, fun read - though I feel like this series ends too soon.

For a darker recommendation, I would suggest 私とこわれた吸血鬼 (Me and the Broken Vampire) After their parents' deaths, Itsuki has been desperately working several jobs to support her younger siblings, but they won't give in the light of day. In her despair, she reunites with her childhood friend, "Yoh-chan", and learns that he's not the prince she always thought he was - but instead a vampire who cannot control himself when it comes to her. When I say it's dark, I mean, it can get pretty bad (still thinking about that bathtub scene...) - and the characters are all separate shades of awfulness and questionable decision-making. Still, it's a compelling read and I recommend it to anyone who is okay with the subject matter!

(The Once Upon a Broken Hearts trilogy gets a special mention since I love the series and the vampires in it, but the story doesn't center around those vampires, hence why I'm not going to write a section about it lol...)

What are your least liked vampire media/characters?

I don't know... Twilight, maybe?

I'm just kidding! Like I mentioned before, I've only ever watched the first movie so I don't really know enough about the series to judge it one way or another.

I don't really have any specific series or characters to name, just... I like well-thought-out lore, lots of small details, and high stakes. If a series has vampires but none of those, I probably won't enjoy it. But honestly, vampires in media has been weirdly rare lately, so I'll probably take anything that I can get lol

Francisco didn’t need to say anything. His presence blocking the aircraft door was enough. Alexander knew better and opened his mouth anyway, but waited until the taillights on his car were no longer visible and Rose was gone beyond a shadow of a doubt. “You said it wouldn’t be a problem if I took the jet.” 

Francisco massaged the crease from between his eyes. “Are you joking with me, Alexander?” 

Alexander swallowed, but his throat was dry and raw. “The cleaning team is already on the way. The other night at dinner you said—“ The back of Francisco’s hand knocked the rest of Alexander’s sentence from his mouth. A thick metal ring split the skin of his lip wide open.

“DO YOU THINK I NEED AN INSIPID BRAT LIKE YOU TO TELL ME WHAT I SAID?” Spit flew across the jet, its walls shook from the force of Francisco’s voice alone. 

Alexander’s shoe scuffed against the floor as he took a step back, and Francisco advanced in perfect synchronization. “Dad, no, I don’t think—“

“That’s right, you don’t fucking think. You don’t fucking do anything, do you? Where did you go, Alexander? What have you done today but waste space? While I have worked to give you a good life. You’ve done nothing. Fucked whores. Embarrassed me in the tabloids. Sunk your trust fund in the casino, snorted it up your nose?” He sneered down his nose at the boy. “Crashed your car for attention? WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE SOMETHING OF YOURSELF AND STOP FUCKING AROUND, BOY? I have given you EVERYTHING, and you are nothing. A leech. More more more,” he mimicked a horrible whine. Francisco’s eyes rolled, then narrowed. Nothing in them could be mistaken for love. 

Age only aided a vampire’s strength and speed, Alexander was thrown back against the wall so hard the metal dented but he’d seen that coming and braced himself. 

“You mope, and you whine, and you cry that your privileged life is unfair. You are weak, the way your weak mother raised you. I should kill you and make another son more in my image.” Francisco hissed the words up against his son’s face, baring his teeth at Alexander. 

Alexander stared blankly out the door. A bird plucked bugs from the patch of grass opposite. His father went on, until suddenly—

“LISTEN TO ME WHEN I SPEAK TO YOU.” He heard the snap of his own neck, felt his jaw dangle unhinged from the force of his father’s blow, and then met the hard embrace of the jet floor like a marionette whose strings had been cut. 

“You’re going to make something of yourself and make something on this island I can be proud of,” his father demanded from above. Alexander heard him straightening his cufflinks. “Or I will burn those fucking cigarettes of yours and tie you to the weathervane at sunrise.” He spat on the floor next to his son’s face. 

A very, very long silence followed, and then at last Francisco sighed. “You are the greatest disappointment of my life, and my only failure.” He stepped over Alexander and paused at the door, as if in afterthought. “Make yourself presentable. You’re expected at St. Asclepius. Your mother’s had an accident, Alexander.”

April and May had come and gone before he realized it. He spent the time carelessly. Squandered it. Pitied himself. Pitied his mother, still in the hospital’s care. Planted anger, grew cold, burnt it up, fell defeated into his coffin. Slept. Slept. Slept. He reached out to Rose and felt like he did so with the hands of a ghost. Transparent. Without grasp, without feeling. He searched for warmth and found none though he stood in the center of her fire. It neither hurt nor healed him, it was all nothing. 

And then came June, hot and fast through the budding greenery of the island and some life finally touched him. One day toward the beginning of the month he opened a pack of ethereum laced cigarettes and found them stale from disuse. He smoked two anyway, and strolled through the cobbled streets of St. Vlad’s through the fashion district and past the subterranean housing clear to the beachfront where stood a hotel loved to ruin by time and the capricious island weather. 

Alexander might have stood there for an hour staring at its haunted facade, or he might have stood there for days. Time had once meant nothing to him and now it meant even less. He began to imagine what it had looked like fifty years ago when it was probably built. Glass doors swinging open to the balconies, a thousand happy people staring out of their rooms to the sea beyond. Staff bustling around on every floor, at every hour of the day or night. Laughter and drinking and storytelling, fireworks and dancing. He could escape in a place like that. A place full of happy memories, so unlike the one he begged to leave behind before it killed him. 

He closed a deal on the property a week later. Construction began immediately. He had no idea what he was doing and enough money that it didn’t really matter. If it was insanity it hardly mattered, he was no stranger to it and preferred it to depression, at any rate.

Edward is capable of reproduction if his partner has a womb. He had fathered and raised dhampirs (half vampire, half human) in the past.

Edward's saliva contains a certain venom, which, if it gets into his victim's bloodstream, acts like an aphrodisiac. It has to have that, so the bitten mortals wouldn't fight back. In turn, his bite can quickly turn on his victims, making them almost crave to be bitten again. That heightened arousal lasts for about half an hour. Yes, victims can have an orgasm when they're bitten. The venom can be absorbed in other ways (see this post) although, it takes a longer time for the body… but this way, even kissing mortals for long periods of time can turn them into blabbering little messes. 😏

History: Edward just woke up from his 300 years long vampiric slumber. The new age is confusing for him, but he knows some things - like blood - never changes...

Born to a wealthy British family in 2540 BCE, Edward Blackburn was the only son of his parents. His mother, Lady Astrid Blackburn, died giving birth to his twins after he was born, and his father, Sir Magnus Blackburn, never married again. He rather focused on teaching Edward all he knew. Edward was willing to learn, but only until his father had lost his sense of authority upon treating servants wrong. The Blackburn family was vast, they had a manor to live in, Edward had spent a lot of time with his cousins who visited them often, and the servants who liked him because he was kind to them. He particularly loved the horses. He was often gone for days on horseback, trying to find undiscovered places and adventure.

When his father died from pneumonia when he was thirty, he had met a man who offered him a deal. Edward could keep his station, his manor, his servants and everything he held dear in his life, if he accepted his gift. If he did not agree, he'd slaughter everyone except him. Not knowing what the gift was, Edward agreed. Little did he know that he had crossed paths with Earth's First Murderer, the First Son, the ancient vampire who called himself Cain. And the gift, of course, was his bite and blood - something that changed Edward once and for all.

He had woken up under the stars at night, with Cain sitting beside him. His new Master let him keep his manor, his servants, his horses. The only thing he demanded from him was loyalty.

And Edward was loyal. He wasn't like the other vampires Cain had turned before, though; this particular one was strict to his own moral compass. He didn't kill, not even on command - which always resulted in harsh punishment, and even then, Edward did not obey. Cain realised quite quickly that he would not turn Edward on his side this way, his little fledgling required special care.

Cain broke him in. Slowly, deliberately. He used innocent people, threatening to hurt them if Edward didn't comply. Cain loved to use anyone he met, on his own terms, and Edward was perfect for that as he was easy to keep under control. Cain introduced him to a world of pain and pleasure; he held orgies in his manor often and gifted him to several groups of strangers to use him as they saw fit while he was watching so they wouldn't cause Edward permanent harm. The psychological torture was much worse than the physical; Edward couldn't expect when the next horror would arrive, and what would it be. And Cain was clever and creative; he knew exactly how to extort the maximum distress out of a person.

So when he offered that he wouldn't pass him to strangers during orgies to be used and degraded, only if Edward married him - Edward was quick to say yes. He didn't like feeling helpless and weak.

He had no idea what he agreed to. Every stranger that ever touched him was collected in Cain's manor, and they were systematically slaughtered to never tell anyone about it in the future. Then, they've spent a few hundred years together, during which Edward had learned a lot about Cain, his motives, his personality - and even then, he could not hate him. On the contrary; during those years Edward slowly fell in love with him. If it was due to Cain being someone loveable or because Edward developed feelings in order to survive with his abuser - it's a matter of point of view.

Eventually, Cain became bored and left Edward's country, leaving him to his own devices. Freedom brought the young vampire peace and calm, something he hadn't felt in hundreds of years. He slowly established his manor and started to learn how to create gear for horse riding.

the tang dynasty was a golden age of china. and feng’s family thrived for generations; merchants, lavish inn owners, poets, and royal ministers. feng’s father was no exception. a minister in the royal palace gave open doors for the oldest of the family heirs. feng spent his days in his education to prepare to gain a place close to the emperor in his father’s place when old age would cause the elder to retire.  

at a young age in his teenage years- around 16; feng was married off to one of the emperor’s daughters and given estate close to the royal palace. it’s not that he didn’t--- like her. she was just-- boring and--- proper. only educated to be a good wife. he spent his nights in the brothels instead of their marriage bed. he admits-- he should have been a better husband. especially when she bore his children. his children were his world. and that world would come crashing down. 

835 A. D;  emperor wenzong sent his chancellor and his general to kill 1,000 eunuchs for plotting to assassinate him. three ministers were sentenced for public execution-- and one of them was feng’s father. feng’s family was framed in the plot but the emperor did not listen. along with his father’s death-- all of the minister’s family was to be executed at dawn. that included feng and his family. at dawn; feng watched as the soldiers murdered his father; his siblings and their families, his wife; and his three children before the sword came to him.

but feng.. did not die. he was left to rot in a field with the corpses of his family. he prayed for death-- to be with them again. to hold his children. instead; his fingers twitched and brushed against the cold fingers of his youngest child-- tears streamed down his paling face. and when the shadow of death cast over him-- he welcomed it.

                                        but it wasn’t death- it was a vampire.

drawn to the scent of his blood draining from him, the creature took a small amount before the venom was given. feng had no strength to fight as the creature threw him over it’s shoulder and made it’s way through the corpses  and out of the field. the vampire nursed feng back to health as the process of his transformation proceeded. feng’s first victim--- was the emperor himself. and he took all the pride of his hatred, his anger as he tore open his throat. after giving his family a proper burial; the pair traveled all throughout asia for centuries ; bodies and destruction in their wake. but feng grew bored of this life and he couldn’t move past the death of his family. his maker grew disgusted of him as he claimed he wanted a better life than this. 

feng ran away to the america’s after escaping his maker. but he knew they’d come looking for him. he lived on the run by himself for so long; bouncing from one place to the next- feeding on caravans of pilgrims just trying to make it across the country to a better life. the civil war had him in hiding; feeding on wounded and abandoned soldiers. then he met jasper, charlotte, and peter. he was instantly smitten and became fast friends with jasper. jasper filled a hole in the void of his soul- picked up the pieces of his tragic story and put them back together. feng was in love and he wasn’t afraid to admit it. they became something more and for a short time-- everything seemed alright. 

but he knew he could never truly be free. his maker found him- obsessed with having feng back. in the middle of the night, he was taken from jasper’s side and he never saw him again. his maker threatened to kill jasper if he ever left them again--- so feng stayed. to keep the man he loved safe. but every second of every day, he regretted not having the strength to end the being that saved him-- gave him this twisted life. regretted not kissing jasper goodbye and telling him how much he loved him. for centuries, he was practically chained to his maker’s side until one day--- the being vanished. and feng felt freedom for the first time in a millennia. he’d find jasper again-- he hoped he’d forgive him. volterra was his first stop-- a stupid decision to ask the volturi for help in tracking down a certain vampire. perhaps he could use old connections between his maker and them to wiggle his way into their good graces.
