Mini Ian Fic: 'Cloning Machine Mishap'

This is just a short fic that I wrote once...involving Ian Somerhalder...and a malfunctioning cloning machine.  ;)

It's just another normal day in the home of Ian Somerhalder...and Ian is sitting at his desk...hard at work...reading through another script for his new show VWars...while his wife Nikki is out somewhere with little Bodhi...let's just say that she went out shopping...just her and the baby...in order to give her husband some alone time. Even his pets or 'kids'...three dogs...and two cats...are off in another room...including his cat Moke...who would be climbing all over Ian's lap right now if he wasn't.

So...everything is quiet...peaceful...normal...just Ian...his script...and his cup of herbal tea...while...off in the corner of the room...sits a rather large...ominous machine...taking up one whole section of the wall. It happens to be a cloning machine. How he ended up with such a device is a closely guarded secret, which only he knows. Anyway...everything is quiet...until...Ian decides to take a short break and gets up from his chair...walking over towards the aforementioned corner of the room to look out one of the windows...gripping his cup in one hand...while draping his other arm over one edge of the machine. Suddenly...he leans to the side...trying to get a better view...accidentally tipping his cup in the process...causing its contents to spill all over the top of the machine. Ian's eyes and mouth go wide with shock and he quickly jumps back...his cup slipping through his fingers to crash to the floor...broken shards flying off in every direction...as sparks begin shooting out of the machine and different colored lights start flashing like crazy...followed by weird sputtering noises.

A cloud of white smoke billows out of the top of the machine a few moments later...settling over the room like a thick, rolling fog. Within minutes...it dissipates. All of the noises and flashing also die down...though Ian ceases to notice those little details. He's got a 'much' bigger problem to deal with at the moment. Make that several problems. Standing a few feet away are about 20 or so humanoid figures...though...it's kind of hard to be sure in such a state of total weirdness...each one an exact replica...right down to the eye color...a small army of Ian clones...who all look positively freaked out to be where they are. Except...there's a 'slight' problem. Ian notices right away that something seems to be a bit...off...with his duplicates...and it doesn't take him long to find out what...which causes his normally calm interior to implode as he lets out a stream of colorful expletives. It turns out that when the tea splashed onto the machine...it caused it to have a 'slight' malfunction...resulting in clones that don't act like the 'real' Ian at all. They all might 'look' like Ian on the outside...but...on the inside...something 'very' different is going on.

Each one of the clones is a copy of one of the characters from the various television shows and movies that he's appeared in over the years...meaning that one is a 'real' vampire with a bit of a dick complex...one is a 'real' federal investigator who is tracking down a criminal who can set fires without the need for matches...one is the survivor of a plane crash onto a deserted island...one is a reluctant explorer type guy...also with a bit of a dick complex...one is a doctor slash scientist trying to stop the spread of a vampire virus due to the melting of the polar ice caps...I'm sure you get the idea. It's chaos...pure and simple.

When Ian finally stops cursing and starts to calm down a bit...he does what he can to calm the clones down as well...to no avail. Most of them all seem to be in a state of unending panic...each of them yelling and screaming at one another...as well as Ian. Poor guy. The only ones who appear to not be bothered by their current situations are Agent Cooper, Doctor Swann...and Damon Salvatore...who is standing just off to the edge of the large group. It figures...although...if one were to look close enough...you'd be able to see a slight flashing going on within his blue eyes...and dark veins rippling just under the surface of the skin of his face. Yep...it seems like he's about to lose his cool at any second...which will probably prove disastrous for the rest of the clones...depending on what season of The Vampire Diaries he happened to be copied from that is.

Meanwhile...the original version...the one and only...accept no substitutes Mister Smolderholder...is completely oblivious. He reaches a shaky hand up to run it through his hair...not knowing what to do to remedy this problem. None of his acting...nor directing skills...ever prepared him for something like this. While he continues to stand there...pondering his next move...he begins to hear some snippets of conversation bouncing around the room. Boone is wondering why he's no longer trapped on the island...is he dead? Is this Heaven? Is this Hell? Oh...if he only knew...Agent Cooper is yelling about bringing in his suspect...the 'Fuse'...dead or alive...and Jack has wandered over to the window...peering out and then turning his head around to shout back over his shoulder...perplexed as to why the world isn't covered by water as far as the eye can see. The only silent ones are Damon and Doctor Swann...who are currently having a staring contest with each other through a small gap in the group. That can't be good.

All of the screaming...shouting...yelling...and endless staring...goes on for what seems like forever...when...finally...it seems as if the clones have all had enough of being stuck where they are...namely...Ian's house...and begin to disperse...all heading for the nearest escape route. The first to make it out is Damon...who rushes to the front of the mob in a burst of vamp speed...and runs right out the door...Doctor Swann not far behind...followed by the rest shortly thereafter. Ian somehow manages to pull himself out of his initial shock of disbelief and breaks into a run...quickly catching up to Jack...who is just outside...far away from the rest of the group...walking around aimlessly. Ian walks along beside him...and the two start up a rather lengthy conversation on the true fate of the planet. Ian would also like to have a little 'talk' with his VWars counterpart on the issues of global warming and the rapidly disappearing ice caps...but Luther is off chasing after Damon Salvatore at the moment...and Ian has no desire to come face to face with an actual vampire. Nope...he has no death wish...he's fine just where he is...for now.

Meanwhile...the rest of the clones...including one semi-pissed off and 'extremely' hungry vampire...are all out running around California somewhere...scattering off in multiple directions. Can the clones be stopped. How? Or do they have a 'shelf-life' and will eventually 'poof' into non-existence? Not even Ian knows that for sure. Unfortunately...the cloning machine was never tested before...until now. And then there's Damon. Can Doctor Swann catch up to him and take him out before he kills anyone? Highly doubtful. Also...as all of this is going on outside...back inside the house...something else is about to happen. Moke has crept inside the room...since the door wasn't shut tight after all...and is slowly making his way towards the offending contraption...which...unbeknownst to an unsuspecting Ian...is somehow still 'very' operational...
