Third Thursday of May is Ukrainian Vyshyvanka Day!

We, Ukrainians are proud of and embrace our Ukrainian culture, traditions, and roots. When we are told to show how Ukrainian we are, we will do exactly that. Every third Thursday of May marks International Ukrainian Vyshyvanka Day. On this day, Ukrainians all over the world wear Vyshyvankas (or Vyshivankas as some may spell it)  to preserve ancestral traditions of wearing embroidered ethnic clothing. This event – a holiday dedicated to Vyshanakas, is an opportunity for Ukrainian communities all over the world and Ukrainians residing in Ukraine to spread the idea of Ukrainian national identity and show their patriotism.

In a complicated and unexpected turn of events, I ended up helping out a Ukrainian family a few weeks ago. Equally unexpectedly, they insisted on sending me a "thank you gift". So now I am the proud owner of a traditional Ukranian garment called "vyshivanka" ❤

I mean, we draw elves in suits which are like... 16-17 century? We draw elves in antique clothes LONG LIVE MY BELOVED APOLLO HAHA nevermind... We draw them in "hi pinterest i need fantasy (fe)male clothes references NOW" and we draw them in national suits like vyshivankas (Ukraine), some, maybe, nothern nations clothing (Finnish? Norwegian?)... i saw (and drew) some Russian clothing too. and Indian. and native American.
