Warkworth Castle is a ruined medieval castle in Warkworth in the English county of Northumberland. The village and castle occupy a loop of the River Coquet, less than a mile from England's north-east coast. When the castle was founded is uncertain: traditionally its construction has been ascribed to Prince Henry of Scotland, Earl of Northumbria, in the mid-12th century, but it may have been built by King Henry II of England when he took control of England's northern counties. Warkworth Castle was first documented in a charter of 1157–1164 when Henry II granted it to Roger fitz Richard. The timber castle was considered "feeble", and was left undefended when the Scots invaded in 1173.

Why did the north believe edward iv when he said he was only coming as duke of york?

I don’t think anyone believed him and I don’t think he actually meant it as a genuine “deception” a la Henry Bolingbroke. It wasn’t an original lie, and at any rate, the situations were wildly different: Henry had been a dispossessed duke who had never claimed the throne; Edward IV had been a crowned and anointed king for ten years. If anything, rather than “deceiving” anyone, this lie would have made it loud and clear that he was aiming to regain the throne.

I think it was meant to be "a fiction that invader and populace could both agree upon". It was a convenient lie that allowed York to stay neutral and not confront him, allowing him to continue south. In case he'd lose, they could claim plausible deniability and protect themselves from Warwick/Lancastrian reprisals; if he'd win, they'd protect themselves from his own potential retribution. Since York had told him that outright support was out of the question, he simply decided to facilitate a position of non-interference towards his cause instead. As we know, it ended up working out very well for him.
