Headcanons for Charlie, Lucifer, Lute, and Alastor with a m!reader who’s the Demi-god son of Zeus?
I would imagine that deities from other myths and cultures do exist in hazbin hotel/helluva boss but don’t really have much power like they did in ancient times, likely mainly due to when christianity started to grow larger pagans ended up being persecuted and killed if they did convert. And it would effect them to the point where either deities chose to live among mortals (like how deities do in American Gods), simply join Heaven and became powerful angels, or tried to fight heaven only to get killed and end up in hell and possibly be more powerful than overlords.
Y/n doesn’t really have a good father-son bond with Zeus, given how much of a terrible father and wife he is in the greek myths.
And with y/n being a son of zeus he also inherited some of his abilities (lightning, strength, etc.)
A/N: I really hope this one is formatted properly, I had to post this one from mobile. But I didn’t write as many headcanons as I normally would due to the number of characters in the ask. From this point on my max character amount will be 3 per ask. But in any case, I hope you enjoy what I got!
Characters: Lute, Lucifer, Charlie, Alastor
Type: Headcanons (x son of Zeus!reader, General)
Lute
When Lute first met you, she immediately saw an opportunity. She practically begged you to join the exorcists! She did admittedly get scolded by Adam for letting the exterminations and exorcists slip, but after that she went about trying to recruit you to their cause properly.
The greek gods wandered freely and let their powers go to waste, but you, you could do something with your powers! Sure, they may not be nearly as strong as your father’s but you’re powerful nonetheless. Which on top of that, there weren’t all that many demigods in heaven anyway, which made you all the more
So she goes out of her way to try to recruit you. She had met your father in passing, sure, but she didn’t particularly care for or about him. He was complicit, doing nothing when it came to the sinners, so frankly he was none of her concern. You on the otherhand were a well of untapped potential!
She would personally make you her project. Your uniform would be altered, an indication for other exorcists not to get to close on the battle field, after all electricity is hard to control especially surrounded by metal objects such as armor pieces or weapons.
Lucifer
Lucifer was initially confused to see you in hell. The other pantheons had their own afterlives, you knew that, right? You were a demigod, you were practically guaranteed a spot in elysium, especially with one of the old Olympians as a parent. Oh, you didn’t want anything to do with that sort of stuff? That’s fair he supposed.
When he finds out about your lack of a relationship with your dad, he initially would want to help fix it. He doesn’t have the best relationship with Charlie, something that the king of hell deeply regrets. He knows how much it can hurt.
That is until he finds out your dad is Zeus. Then he fully understands. See, he never really liked Zeus all that much, between how he he had the habit of acting childish and how he constantly cheated on his literal wife, (which that was a whole different can of worms that Lucifer was not about to open)
Charlie
Being the princess of hell, she wouldn’t exactly have any room to talk when it came to your lineage. But you were the son of Zeus, that basically made you royalty, right? Regardless, she’d still refer to you as such, even if your human blood prevented you from being heir to a now nonexistent throne.
Much like her father, your strained relationship with your own dad tugged at charlie’s heartstrings. She will actively want to help you reconnect with him.
She might initially be a little pushy about it, considering her views on forgiveness and redemption, but she would want you to try to better your relationship with your dad. She herself doesn’t have the best one with her own, but they had been working on improving it. She wants that opportunity for you too.
If that’s something you would want at least. As much as Charlie would love for you to have a better father-son relationship, if that’s something you’re uninterested in she’ll respect your decisions and help better set boundaries with the God, because lets face it. Zeus wouldn’t exactly heed any you might set on your own.
Alastor
Well, i think we all know how he would react. You were powerful, more powerful than a normal soul and he knew it. He could feel it. Sometimes, when you got too excited or let your emotions get the better of you he could feel the charge of electricity
He, in terms of sinners, is likely to be the most open to the idea of other pantheons existing, he dabbled in the dark arts after all.
He knew early on that he could use you to his advantage, and if he could do so by simply saying something along the lines of your father wouldn’t approve, that’s even better. However, if you were harder to get into a deal or to form some sort of alliance, then that meant you would need to be dealt with or steered clear from.
After all, radios and an abundance of electricity don’t exactly mix well.

An earnest call for your support: Help me determine if there is a gas leak in my house.
for a long time now, I have been reading and hearing about This Guy on the news, and have been reading all the articles and stories about him:
Tumblr media
Above: Sam, tenting his weird-ass fucked up fingers like a real Wall Street Guy might do in a movie he saw
Yep, you already know this guy, his name is Sam, I'll be referring to him as Sam, as that is his first name, and not by his initials, which is what I imagine a pod person might do in an attempt to emulate human behaviour. Whatever. You already know him and what he did, I won't waste your time. Listen. Pay attention. This is not a post about this guy or what he did. That shit is boring as fuck. This is a post about a potential gas leak in my house. We'll get to that in just a bit. Remember.
I've read all the articles and all the op-eds and everything. About Sam. Let us explore the entire spectrum of media coverage of Sam and Sam's Big Ass Problem, starting from the bottom, with the worm-food-tier jackasses: What do people like Jim Cramer and Shark Tank Guy have to say about him?
Tumblr media
Above: CNN's "Mad Money" Jim Cramer also doing a weird hand gesture while he tells your alcoholic cable-news-addicted uncle to put his money in some dumbass shit
Tumblr media
Above: I think this is the Shark Tank guy? I don't remember his name. Could have sworn his suit had dollar signs and not question marks (?)
I'll summarize their conclusions: "Sam is a boy genius who is super duper smart and can move objects with his massive brain due to knowing about Tech, FinDom FinTech, and computer money, specifically Money Coding. Unfortunately Sam committed massive fraud and will get his ass fucked in federal court".
Moving on from the worm-food-tier to the mediocre-tier: The totally nameless basic bitch journalists at the New York Times or Bloomberg. What do these assholes have to say?
Tumblr media
Above: Jim Fuckface, associate financial correspondent for Bloomberg. Jim enjoys winding down on a Friday afternoon by sipping a Bud Lite Lime and wearing his baseball cap backwards, which bears the logo of his local professional sports team.
Tumblr media
Above: Kate Fuckface, columnist at the New York Times. Kate enjoys spending her time chatting and interacting with her friends on Social Media Platforms like Facebook and Instagram, as well as purchasing items on Etsy
I'll summarize their conclusions: "Displaying the characteristic awkwardness of incredible technical and financial genius, it was clear to me during our interview that Sam's depth of knowledge truly knew no bounds. Unfortunately Sam committed massive fraud and will get his ass fucked in federal court."
Finally moving on to the people that might actually have a clue about what they're talking about. Sam Levine and Michael Lewis:
Tumblr media
Above: Matt Levine, author of a comedy email newsletter named Money Stuff that is 95% financial information by weight and somehow still usually funny as fuck.
Tumblr media
Above: Michael Lewis, author of a bunch of really good books you haven't read that were made into pretty decent movies you have seen: Moneyball and The Big Short.
I'll summarize their conclusions: "Sam sure is a smart kid and seems to know a whole lot about economics and this digital currency, and I mean a whole lot, and even more about business, accounting, and finance. Bright kid! Unfortunately Sam committed massive fraud and will get his ass fucked in federal court."
A pretty goddamn clear consensus across the board on both counts.
I listened to the interviews the entire spectrum of people listed above conducted with him -- the ones during which they unanimously concluded how smart he is. I listened to many hours of ad-hoc, unscripted Twitter Space calls he participated in, where he fielded questions about his fraud and his business with complete strangers. I listened to them very carefully. And here is my problem! I came to a different conclusion!
Sam is a fucking moron. I am not talking about solely his intellect, or solely his decision-making abilities, or any specific criteria. I am talking about all of them.
There are two possibilities:
(A) I am correct and, somehow, literally everyone else is incorrect, most of whom know vastly more about these topics than I do
(B) There is a fucking gas leak in my house and I have completely lost all cognitive abilities, suddenly and unwittingly, and exist in a cartoon reality inside my skull that would allow me to reach such a wildly different conclusion from the same evidence.
The likelihood of (A) being correct is very nearly 0%. I mean, come on. I am not fucking around when I tell you how troubling this is for me. I wrote earlier that this isn't a post about Sam or his bullshit. This is a post asking for your help in determining whether I have lost my god damn marbles.
I'll give Sam one thing -- he has some nominal ability to bullshit. If he's writing a Tweet, or making a short statement, he can finesse his words that, on some level, mask how much of a dimwit he is. He absolutely can't do that through about six hours of unscripted interviews. Listen to that shit. Listen.
I am going to go check all the joints in the gas lines in my house as well as the ports on my stove and heater. I'll come back and write a follow-up post on outlining exactly why I think homeboy is an idiot. While I do that, please, go listen to the interviews and tell me what you think.

Ain't Doin' Right (jake seresin x vet tech!OC)
Content Warnings: descriptions of blood and violence, dog attack, panic attack, symptoms of PTSD
Word Count: 2.8k
A/N: well, here's everyone's introduction to the jake and junebug universe! hope you like it and hope it's decent. i haven't written a fic in a really long time. i was suuuper rusty. i originally planned something different (along the lines of how these two met), but it wasn't working out and i had to get something out, so i literally powered through this. give a reblog or comment if you liked this one. - E
Having spent fifteen years as a veterinary technician, June was accustomed to hospitals of all kinds. Private practice, general practice, corporate, emergency, wildlife, specialty, and beyond. She was even familiar (and perhaps unfortunately so) with hospitals meant for humans. When you work with animals, injuries are bound to happen. Most could be avoided, usually happening to those with less experience. Alas, accidents happen, even to those who have been in the game longer than most. And June was in the game.
In a field with an incredibly high turnover rate, she’d managed to hang on. It hadn’t been easy. There were a lot of times (and still a few now) where she had seriously contemplated throwing in the towel, but she was nothing if not spiteful. And persistent. And an unabashed optimist at heart (although she fronts as more of a realist). No one and nothing could kill the hope that the veterinary field could become better, and no one could take away the work she’d put in to make it so. Despite her hope and optimism, neither of those things could protect her from having a bad day. And this was a very bad day. Not the worst she’s ever had personally or professionally, but it’s definitely up there. After a lot of futile arguing, June finally conceded to being driven to the emergency room by one of her coworkers (and kind of friend), Sophia. After filling out the incident report form and informing the unfortunate owner of the dog (which June did not do herself), she got into the passenger seat of Sophia’s car.
Her left arm was haphazardly bandaged with some gauze squares, cast padding, and vet wrap (it was pink with purple hearts) after being cleaned up. She was hoping she wouldn’t bleed through the bandage before they got to the hospital, but her hopes weren’t high. Her forearm was littered with deep puncture wounds and two deep lacerations ran up and around the inside toward her elbow. Thankfully, the dog had decided to let go. Otherwise, it would have been much worse. There wasn’t too much blood on her scrubs, miraculously. Holding her arm out away from her body helped with that. June wasn’t feeling the pain of her wounds either, still riding on that burst of adrenaline from almost losing her arm to a massive dog. She was also distracted by the anger she felt the moment it happened and now. It would linger. It always does when accidents like these happen because of the negligence (or ignorance) of someone else. Then, she’ll feel bad for feeling angry because it really wasn’t the assistant’s fault, they’re brand new and still learning. Finally, she’ll be angry with herself for not being more careful and having someone more experienced help her with her task, but you can only do so much when you’re understaffed. FINALLY, finally, she’ll be angry with management and the industry as a whole for even creating circumstances in which to be understaffed.
June is so lost in her thoughts and emotions that she doesn’t hear Sophia’s question.
“June!”
“Hm?”
“I asked if you wanted me to call Jake.”
And then there was Jake. Sweet, caring, protective (maybe to a fault) Jake. The charming, witty, cocky (ahem: confident) man that had somehow wormed his way under her skin and into her heart. They’d been together long enough at this point, about two years. Jake was at work, too, fitting into his instructor position at TOPGUN nicely. He loved being able to teach the new classes of the world’s best fighter pilots, sure, but he equally loved getting to show off just how good he was in the air. He would readily admit the second reason, the first one only June and Javy knew about. Everyone else could figure it out if they thought about it, but Jake would never admit to going soft. He really did love teaching.
June would eventually call him; it was only fair. He was her partner after all. She just didn’t like worrying him, especially when she knew it would affect his performance and ability to be at work. She knew her job was important, but his was, too. She would never forgive herself if he made a mistake in the air because he was distracted thinking about her. Jake thinks about her all the time, whether she’s in the hospital or not. She’s always on his mind the same was he’s always on hers.
“Oh, no, you don’t have to. I’ll call him once we’re actually in a room.”
“That could take hours.” Sophia glances at June with a deadpan expression.
“It’ll be sooner since I’ll most likely be bleeding all over their waiting room.” June looks to the bandage on her arm. She can’t see the blood yet, but she can feel that it hasn’t stopped flowing. Slowed, maybe, but definitely not stopped.
“Well, we’re almost there so hopefully you’re right.”
Sophia pulls the car into the parking lot of the hospital, and they make their way inside.
-
Fifteen minutes later, June and Sophia are led to a bed in the ER. A nurse came over for intake procedures and to assess the damage up close. A brief flash of panic crosses the nurse’s face as she looks down at June’s arm. She must be new, June thinks. June thinks back to when she first started as a tech, working in emergency. She remembers learning how to field her emotions and control her facial expressions. That kind of skill only comes with practice and unfortunately, that practice usually involves seeing and experiencing incredibly fucked up shit.
“On a scale from one to ten, where would you say your level of pain is?” The nurse doesn’t look panicked anymore, but still seems uneasy.
“Probably about a five.”
“A five?”
“Yep.” The nurse types up some notes on her computer.
“Alright, I’ll see about getting you something for the pain.” As she steps out of the room, Sophia turns to June.
“You are being remarkably calm about this whole thing. I don’t think I’d be nearly as lucid, and I’d definitely be crying.”
June shrugs.
“I’ve been through worse. And I’m also really good at compartmentalizing. Plus, I’m still kind of riding on the adrenaline, so I’m sure everything will catch up with me.”
“I don’t know how you do it.” Sophia shakes her head and checks her phone. June sighs.
“Practice.” She falls back against the hard mattress and crisp sheets of the hospital bed.
-
It was another twenty minutes before her nurse came back with some ibuprofen and then ten before June saw a doctor. Safe to say, she was feeling the pain now and was really looking forward to going home. She needed stitches for the longer lacerations, to no one’s surprise.
“How’d this happen?” The doctor seemed nice enough, gently taking June’s arm into her gloved hands.
“Bit by a dog at work, was up to date on rabies vaccinations and so am I.”
“You work in a vet’s office?”
“Sure do,” The doctor nods in response.
“Not the worst I’ve seen, but still pretty bad. Definitely gonna need stiches for these long ones here. Other than that, we’ll get you cleaned up and on an antibiotic.” The doctor gets up and starts getting her supplies ready, stepping away.
“Hey, Soph?”
Sophia looks up from her phone.
“Yeah?”
“Would you mind calling Jake for me?” June pulls up his contact on her phone.
“Sure thing,” Sophia takes the device and steps out of the room as the doctor reenters.
“Alright, since we’re doing sutures, I’m gonna apply some lidocaine gel so you don’t feel anything, but first we’re gonna clean these up.”
“Sounds good.” It really did sound good. The ibuprofen was not cutting it anymore and feeling the cut and pull of sutures being placed didn’t sound too appealing. June winces slightly at the first feeling of the saline being flushed into her wounds. It’s a bit cold and uncomfortable, but ultimately bearable. She grits her teeth and muscles through it. After all her wounds have been thoroughly irrigated, the doctor applies the gel and lets it set for a few minutes while she readies her sterile gloves and suture. Sophia enters the room and sets June’s phone by her scrub jacket.
“He’s on his way.”
“Thanks, Soph.”
“Don’t mention it.” Sophia sits back down in the chair next to the bed.
“You can go, if you want.” June looks to Sophia as the doctor asks if she’s ready. June nods, Sophia shakes her head.
“I’ll stay until he gets here, don’t want to leave you alone.”
“Okay then.”
-
The doctor is halfway through closing the second laceration when they all hear heavy footsteps approaching the room. Throwing back the curtain, Jake stands, still in his flight suit, armed with a very concerned expression. He looks at June’s face, then to her arm. His eyes widen, brow furrowing as he brings a hand to rub over his mouth. June can’t help but smile a little.
“Hey,” Her voice is small. Jake walks over to her, squatting down in front of her, so as not to get in the way of the doctor, who is diligently working on suturing the wound closed. He places a hand on her knee. Sophia uses this opportunity to take her leave, giving them both a small wave before heading out.
“Junebug, what happened?” His eyes search her face.
“I trusted a coworker to be good at their job?”
“Junebug,” Jake sighs and closes his eyes.
“Sorry, bad joke,” June looks away for a brief moment, placing her hand over Jake’s.
“Got shredded at work.”
“I can see that. How you feelin’?”
“Been better, but I’ve also been worse.”
It was true, June had been in much worse situations, but that didn’t necessarily take the edge off. What happened today shouldn’t have happened, but it did, and now she has to suffer the consequences. Which hurt like a bitch.
June reaches down with her good arm to cup Jake’s cheek, softly rubbing her thumb over the soft skin. He leans into her touch, grabbing onto her wrist to keep her there. The doctor pipes up, finally finished.
“Alright, looking good. We’ll have your meds ready in a few minutes and then you’ll be good to go.” She stands up, removes her gloves, and leaves the room.
After collecting her antibiotics and filling out some discharge paperwork, June and Jake are on their way home. It’s still quiet between the two. Jake knows she’s exhausted and frustrated, so he doesn’t press with questions. He knows she’ll come to him when she’s ready and he’s learned to be patient. The drive back to the house is uneventful. After getting the door for June and positively too much fretting on the short, short walk from the car to the front door, Jake declares that he’ll take the dogs out so June can shower.
June is incredibly grateful for Jake every day, but particularly on days like today where she just needs help. He would take over dog care duty while she got herself cleaned up and rested. He’d probably order takeout from her favorite place for dinner, knowing it would help her feel better and just be less work. She was looking forward to her shower and stripping off her scrubs. Washing the workday away had become a ritual, especially for days like today. She managed to get undressed fine, only wincing once when the sleeve from her scrub top rubbed a bit too hard down her arm. She steps into the steaming spray and just stands there, staring at the tiled wall ahead of her. She’s not sure how long she stays like that, only that it must’ve been long enough for Jake to have come back from his walk since he was knocking on the door.
“Junebug? You doin’ alright in there?”
June comes back to her senses, rubbing her hands over her face. She groans slightly as she realizes she hasn’t even cleaned up yet.
“Yeah, I’m okay, honey. It’ll be a few minutes.” She hopes this answer will placate him for now, trying to reel herself in when the adrenaline dump takes full hold, and her brain finally catches up to what her body was put through.
“Alright, sweetheart. I’ll get started on dinner.” He goes back downstairs to the kitchen to rummage through the stack of takeout menus they’ve accumulated over the years.
“Shit,” June mutters to herself, feeling the tears start to build behind her eyes. She makes quick work of the rest of the shower. The thick, steamy air quickly becomes suffocating. She tries to regulate her breathing as she dries off. It doesn’t work. She grabs onto the edge of the counter to try and steady herself, taking deep breaths in and out. The event from today replays in her head on repeat, each time seeming more real than the last. She thinks about how she could’ve broken or even lost her arm had the dog not decided to let go when it did. She presses her towel to her face and takes a gasping breath. Holy shit she could’ve lost an arm today.
“Jesus Christ,” June exits the bathroom and throws on whatever comfy clothes she can find. If she’s gonna give into the panic, might as well make it soft and snuggly. She goes downstairs in a daze, seeking out the only one that could ground her in times like these. He’s sitting on the sofa, scrolling through his phone.
“Did the boys have their dinner?” Jake startles where he sits, turning to look at his girlfriend. He’s on his feet immediately once he hears her strangled tone and sees her tight expression.
“Baby?” He gently places his hands on either side of her face.
“Did you feed the boys?”
“Yep, walked, fed, and ready for bed.” June nods, eyes wild.
“Good, that’s— that’s good.” She reaches her hands up to grasp Jake’s wrists, desperately trying to bring herself back down to earth. Jake gently swipes at the tears that begin to fall down her cheeks. June is looking forward, right at Jake, but it’s like she doesn’t even see him. He feels like she’s looking through him.
“Baby, what’s wrong?” He tries to catch her eyes with his.
“I almost—” Deep breath. “I almost lost an arm today… I mean, I know I didn’t, but I could’ve. If that dog hadn’t let go when it did, Jake, I would’ve lost my arm.”
June looks at him then, actually at him, not like she’s a thousand miles away. Her breathing is ragged, chest heaving at capacity, yet feels so tight. Her eyes are wide and glistening with tears, hands around Jake’s wrists, knuckles turning white. It stuns Jake for a second, not used to seeing his girl in such a blind panic. For a split second, he wants to panic, too. Seeing someone you love in so much pain isn’t easy, but he has to keep it together. He needs to keep her grounded.
“But you didn’t lose an arm, baby. It’s right here.” Jake gently pries her hands from his wrists so he can use his hands to touch her arms, gently rubbing up and down.
“See? They’re both here, both intact.” He’s looking into her eyes, pleading for her to register the feeling of his touch.
“They’re here. I didn’t—I didn’t lose an arm.”
“You didn’t lose an arm, baby. No use wasting your energy on what-ifs. You’re here, all of you.” Jake moves his hands up her arms, to her shoulders, and gently pulls her into him. She doesn’t immediately reciprocate.
“Junebug, you’re okay. You’re home, you’re safe.”
“I’m home, I’m safe.” Jake presses a kiss to the crown of her head and she slowly starts to wrap her arms around him. He rubs her back as she comes back to herself, a new wave of tears soaking into his shirt. His heart breaks a little more with every sad whimper and cry. Trying to keep himself together is exceedingly difficult.
“Let’s go sit down, hm?” Jake waits for a response. June sniffles and nods. He scoops her up off the floor to go sit down on the sofa, where she curls further into him. He continues to rub her back as her cries finally settle to the occasional sniffle and her breathing matches his.
“Do you wanna talk about it?”
“Not really.”
“Alright…Do you wanna order pizza?”
“From Linetti’s?” Jake smiles through a small chuckle.
“Yeah, from Linetti’s.”
June wipes at her nose and nods. Jake reaches for his phone on the coffee table.
“Jake?” June looks up at his face.
“Hm?”
“I love you.” Jake looks at June, pressing his forehead to hers.
“I love you too, Junebug.”

STEM SISTER SCUFFLE: ROUND 3 MASHUP 1
Jadzia Dax (Star Trek Deep Space 9) vs Ema Skye (Ace Attorney)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jadzia Dax is an Astrophysicist and Xenobiologist!
Ema Skye is a Forensic Scientist!
Why you should vote for each contestant:
Jadzia Dax:
"She does a lot of science in space — like xenobiology and physics — but is also the ranking science officer, so she covers a lot of fields. she is an expert in many scientific fields, leads a lot of other scientists, and is a badass starfleet officer who can f you UP in a fight. her alien species is a symbiotic set of species, so Jadzia’s got a worm named Dax in her and has access to all of Dax’s past hosts’ memories & knowledge, part of why she’s an expert in so many fields! but Jadzia, the host, also got multiple degrees in different fields before she was joined” with her symbiote."
"She is a star trek science officer, so mostly space anomalies and stuff 😄 She is self assured and takes up space and just a joy to watch. All the bi girls love her 💜"
"First F/F kiss on TV"
"IMMORTAL WORM ALIEN WOMAN who has lived EIGHT LIVES and is GENDERFLUID but is CURRENTLY A WOMAN! She's great"
"She is the lead science officer on her space station! Got four degrees in astrophysics, exoarchaeology, exobiology and zoology. She is an amazing researcher! Jadzia is a Joined Trill, host to the Dax symbiont which has lived 300 years. Jadzia became a Starfleet officer and pursued her science studies before then becoming Joined, which means she also has the wealth of knowledge from Dax's multiple lives. She is an amazing scientist and also loves to have fun, and she's a genderfluid pansexual ICON."
Ema Skye:
"I love her a lot and she's very important to me. We get to see her story from being a high school student who's really into science, to becoming a detective, to then finally passing her forensics exam and becoming a forensic scientist like she always wanted. I cosplayed her before"
"Ema has been interested in forensics ever since she was a kid. She's extremely passionate about it. She works very hard and despite bumps along the way she does manage to achieve her dreams/career goal and get into forensic science. She is amazing and I love her enthusiasm and I love her :D When she was like 16 she personally had her own spray bottle(s) of luminol testing fluid, what a dork (in the best way!). Forensic science is practically her whole life. What an inspiration. The first thing on her wiki page is the quote "Yes! Isn't it amazing? Ah, the power of science. It's my life." Bless."
"this girl is so silly. Her favorite thing is luminol. You have an ace attorney pfp you know her. She is my favorite ever. She calls Klavier Gavin a "glimmerous fop" (accurate description). She wears a lab coat over her school uniform. She brings snacks to crime scenes.i love her your honor"
"shes like every enthusiastic autism girl with a science special interest who then gors to college and gets a job and is tired and a mean lesbian but still is a freak about forensics. i love her"
"SHE WORKED SO HARD TO GO INTO FORENSICS. SHE HELPS EVERYONE DO FORENSICS. SHE THEN FAILS WHEN IT COUNTS AND BECOMES BITTER BUT GETS OUT OF THOSE FEELINGS LATER ON. I love her dearly she's so silly and fun when she needs to be, and I think her failure is fascinating but I'm SOOOOO GLAD she was able to become a forensic scientist in the end :)"
"Showed up and gave Apollo random forensics supplies at just the right time. Not sure if this was authorized. Does not Mayte though she can do anything she wants. C’mon man you know her you know why she’s the best you get me right"
"She's fun and good at science and has pink lenses in her glasses and I like her a lot"
"She is so excited to be using her fun little toys to solve crimes."
"She’s a gosh darn professional in a house of fops. Is passionate about her work and was inspired partially by a murder case she was involved in as a witness. She’s really cute and really quirky, and ya girl knows how to snack. She accessorizes really well. I cosplayed as her once and found myself more and more impressed with her style choices as I was putting it together. We stan a fashionable yet practical STEM queen."
"she is literally everythingggg to me. she has wanted to be a forensic scientist since she was 16 y/o and introduces forensic investigation mechanics to the series like luminol and dusting for fingerprints. when she does not get her dream job, she becomes depressed and bitter, only cheering up when she talks about forensic science. later on, when she attains the job, she is much happier! science is her entire life and her career and she is tremendously autistic about it. also she's such a girlboss i love her <3 ema must go through btw. she is the ultimate woman in stem"
"Ema Skye has been interested in forensics for many years due to case that occurred when she was younger. Even though she didn't pass the test to become one at first she had still continued trying till she made it. She always lights up at the mention of anything revolving sciene. She gets so happy when she's able to work with her forensic tools and investigate the crime scene <33"
"Teaches Phoenix wright about forensics"
"she wears a cool lab coat and I don't really know what else to put here but she's neat"
"she is so autistic about forensic science. she goes against the police rules to take fingerprints. she infodumps to anyone who will listen about forensic science. ema is so special to me and I love her very much"
"Ema is a girlboss! She started using forensics and scientific investigation to help solve murders when she was just 15 years old. she autistic and bisexual bc I say so :)"

"Wants to be a scientific investigator and solve crimes scientifically, forced to be a cop. Goes from teen with a weird hobby to reluctant cop to everything she ever wanted and I am so proud"
"She’s just a little weirdo. And she keeps trying to be a forensic scientist, but she has to finish high school first. She solved the murder her sister was accused of "
"Forensic science fascinates her. She sure is a woman jn stem. I am sorry I am very tired i dn what to write"
"I need to actually finish AA but it’s her. You probably have more submissions with better reasoning but I like her vibes from what I did play."

Hey, it's the anon who asked a while ago how painful it was that Moon of all people interrogated Ruin :') things seemed so simple then :')) It's 100% my denial talking rn, but how likely do you think that there's more to the story? The way Sun pleaded with Moon to wait and kept saying how this didn't make sense seems to be hinting there's something more going on. (1/3)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh hey! Yea- things really were simple back then 😭
Oooh you do have a point there anon. I've been... suspecting something more going on in that merged system of Ruin's for a but now. Their behaviour does NOT make sense. They act one way one time, then a different way the next time... it's a little concerning.
The suppresant theory is... wow a VERY clever idea. I've rambled a lot about my own theory of the cure not working fully 1st try and needing to be taken periodically to have any long lasting effect.. but the suppresant would make as much... well even MORE sense with their actions.. the Creator does not make mistakes...
In hardware sure. But not software. NEVER software.
Kind of makes you wonder if... Ruin arriving in the TSBS dimension was a part of the Ruin Creator's plan all along... and if so... BOOOHOHOY does that open a whole new can of worms for us to sort through.
Moon's and Ruin's deal entailed a race to get to the Creator (tho i'm still pretty sure it was originally a race of who can get their task done faster. Ruin getting to the Creator, or Moon making/finding a cure to the Ruin virus, I may be remembering this wrong but oh well, it's in the past now). And I can't help but wonder if THAT wasn't the real reason Ruin was here. To get to our Creator for... an upgrade of sorts? Something he could not do himself. Each Creator has a different field they experiment in in their own dimension, right? I'm unsure as to what our Creator's goal is (a lil rusty on my tsams lore know how) but it seems rather plausible?
And... if this Ruin we've had on our hands since the end of October has really just been pretending the whole time... i'll hold onto my stupid lil theory which is based on nothing but a few times Ruin Eclipse has spoken through Jigsaw in the past... did they have an accent at the time? NOPE. Did they have an accent after being cured? YOU BET YO ASS THEY DID!
We'll just have to.. wait and see what today's episode brings I suppose qwq I'm not particularly looking forward to it... have a bad feeling about what's to come haha jfjfjf

There was a post on here a while back which described navigating social spaces while Autistic like trying to walk through a minefield. One wrong move and, well, you blow up. blowing up hurts, so you create systems, rules, you try and find a rhyme or reason as to how the explosives are laid out so that you might make it through unscathed. I've come to know this as "Masking".
There's a moment where every autistic realizes that they are different, because they step on a mine that, to an allistic, isn't even there. It's a crushing weight to know that there is a seemingly invisible force that will hurt them again and again unless they hide who they are (begin to mask) and try to forge a path. For me it was middle school when I learned this; when I realized I didn't truly have any friends because public school is cruel and othering. So, I changed how I spoke, learned how to tell jokes, developed hobbies that would make me more likable (which is how I started art) until, finally, 8 years later It seemed like I was on the other of the field: I had finally made it.
That all shattered in an instant, in 2021, a decisive step ended with a fireball so large fragments of me are still being found in the field. So, hurt and stricken with the loss of acceptance that I so briefly had, I did the other option that post talked about: I stayed still. Just..didn't move, because if I did I risked being hurt again. New year's 2022 I had moved up north, but still I remained where I was. 2023 came and began to pass, and instead of keeping pace I watched as it sped by.
To put it bluntly, I was burnt out both socially and in my art, full of resentment for what hurt me and shame for not being able to mask as effectively; that version of me had died in the explosion. All these terrible feelings reached a boil when my shame and resentment towards myself was inadvertently aimed towards someone I loved. In that moment I saw that I was rotting...
And I saw how empty I was.
So much of myself previously was dedicated solely to masking in an attempt to fit in, that when fitting in became no longer an option that huge part of myself became void of purpose, and so that part of me itself became a void.
I don't really remember the months after that, but in October I had gotten my hands on a book: "Unmasking Autism" by Devon Price. The introduction to that book was like an electric shock to my heart, revitalizing me and reversing the decay- his and other autistic folk's experiences described in the book was so alike mine that I suddenly understood my emptiness and was aware of the fractured mask hanging from my face. Armed with knowledge of my ailment the author then gave me a path out of the minefield...back from whence I came. Retrace my steps. Understand previous blunders, forgive myself for them, and exit the field to forge my own way to live and navigate life freely without fear of being reduced to bits.
I will struggle to post this, I know I will. Part of me masking, one of my guiding rules through the mines was to *never* make sincere personal posts because "sincerity from someone you follow who's not known for it is uncomfortable" (getting into the why of this is a whole other can of worms). But I will do it anyways, because the time for me being avoidant of my feelings are over.
In 2024, I will be fully embracing my autism. I don't know what i'll look like without the mask- I probably still haven't gotten rid of it fully- But I will be more genuine...probably uncomfortably so, My blog will be more self-serving (and probably my art too once I detangle my worth as an artist from how "good" it looks), I'll reblog cringy fandom stuff and say weird things and blog at length about how much I love airplanes and large industrial systems and freak furry things. I will be deadpan and monotone and just be so unapologetically autistic, because then i'll truly be me. ok bye bye

It's spooky month baybee!! You know what that means!!! That's right! Xisuma opens the server for all Hels members.
It's a great time, especially now that most Hels have chillaxed and are now more in the business of general annoyance than malicious intent.
It's especially fun seeing how different the relationships are. For instance, Ex, Hels (the guy) and Worm are Very Close, and while xisuma thinks Wels and Zed are pretty cool, they aren't all that close.
It's also fun meeting the family. For a long time Bdubs thought that Patho was Etho's counterpart, which is incorrect. Patho is Etho's brother, 404 is Etho's counterpart. 404 thought this was very funny, expressing its amusement in the unsettling, empty way it does most things. The whole lot of them won't let him live it down.
With the server so overrun with people, there are many festivities, including but not limited to Cleo's (zombie and human) terrifying hedge maze of horrors, a special Halloween decked out phase where hermits and hels alike replace the ravagers and wardens and hunt down the unfortunate runners themselves, and of course a massive pile of fallen leaves to run around in.
It's great enrichment, and at the end of the month, when hermicraft is starting to struggle to keep up with the chaos of way too many players and it's time for the Hels to go home, joe sets up a massive projector screen.
Everyone gathers in whatever field chosen and huddles close to their chosen partners or friends to watch some movies before it's time to say goodbye.
Tfc even comes up from the mines to hang out, he's the only one everyone trusts to pick the movies.
-s (i fell asleep halfway through this)
The groups have learnt to work together well, despite their differences. As much as they kick up a fuss, the Helsmits are hard workers with a bit of direction! They make sure there's a list of tasks, so they can pick something and get started. There's so much to do, the hermits are never able to finish it all in time.
They're also given controlled zones to cause chaos in. Truthfully, the hermits use it more than the Helsmits do. There's just too much fun in blowing things up.
Heck, some of them might even say they're sad to see the Hels go at the end of the month! Never to their faces, though.

CAMP JUPITER MAP-
A new fire has been lit inside me, that fires name is spite and Vanilla Coke.
After having to think and consider the sheer amount of balls dropped when in relation to Camp Jupiter, I am no longer going to try and fit my map to Camps perceived, described, layout. It just- it is just hurting my brain, and I’d want it to be somewhat more accurate to how actual Roman Legions had camps to fit into my perceived image of Camp- and therefore it is totally not a canon compliant map, that is taking into consideration camp descriptions.
It is going to be a map mixed from actual Roman legion camps, my mental image of camp, buildings that are mentioned in the canon that must be there, buildings that feel stupid to not be there (*ahem* some sort of medical center, I know it’s probably in Probatio’s journal but I don’t have the mental capacity to read a book where they name the daughter of Janus, JANICE! Though I like the artstyle, it looks pretty nice.)
But yeah, I’m a little upset, or uh, fired up- a mix of getting to talk about the absolute lack of world building and character building and consideration put into the Roman’s has caught up with me. And i still have to figure out New Rome stuff but New Rome makes me upset so CAMP!
Camp is nicer to my brain because Camp doesn’t give me questions like, “what are food producers doing, does New Rome get food from mortal farms. Is American government aware of the Camps existence??” Which is a can of worms I do not want to open in any way shape or form, therefore camp gets to go first because it’s easier to just research actual proper Roman legion camps and not whatever we are fed in the books (like the lack of description on general size of camp, I have no perception on how big any building is, it confuses me. Where Temple hill may be- seeing as we manage to pass the FIELDS OF MARS on our way from Camps main area to the Temples; Hazel and Percy can see them building the War game fort while walking to the Temples which does a whole different thing for mapping, AND NOT CONSIDERING THE CONCEPT OF ALL THE TEMPLES JUST BEING IN THEIR OWN AREA, AND ALL OF THIS BEING IN THE BAY AREA)
Okay, I am upset, I am worked up- I will be now going to my paper, best of luck to me, because I’ve tried this 75 times but now that I’m not worrying about canon hopefully this will be better.
ALSO THERE WILL BE A POST ON CENTURIONS. OR JUST POSITIONS OF POWER IN CAMP, BECAUSE REVELATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE THAT JUST LEAD TO MORE WEIRD QUESTIONS AND THE PRAETOR HIGHEST RANK CHOICE IS CERTAINLY A CHOICE THAT WAS MADE AND I WANNA TALK ABOUT IT BASED ON MY BASIC KNOWLEDGE-
Okay, have a good day^^

hey hey hey hey cecil floralwallpaper, in classical music au does Ethan have secret aspirations towards composing? Is that the classical music version of the IMF-transformation we see Ethan has more or less completed by DR1? plz plz plz I'm interested in your thoughts :3c
HI HI HI PUNCT thank you so much for asking this is a very good and interesting question. To do a short answer long answer style thing--short answer, I don't imagine Ethan being interested in composing. He's just such a performer, it's so coded into him, i can't imagine composing being more than a passing hobby. Long answer, the IMF transformation point is an excellent one. There's definitely such a distinct shift that takes place through the franchise from Ethan being the victim/tool/scapegoat of this organization, to him finding his own kind of power and independence and using that to take care of people, look after his people, and create a new kind of IMF. I definitely am imagining the AU will have a version of that, but I think for Ethan in the classical music AU it will manifest in a couple different ways. First of all I think Ethan's relationship with leadership in MI will translate pretty neatly into a complex push-pull relationship with the idea of music teaching. MI3 Ethan becomes a teacher, which for him is an escape from the field. My equivalent of MI3 Ethan in CM AU, i am imagining, will do something similar as an escape from performance--but because of his experiences with music teachers in the past, which have been universally exploitative, it ends up becoming more emotionally charged than he expected. Something like GP Ethan's journey with having a team that looks to him for direction. I imagine private teaching and ethan's relationship with the horror of the power dynamics therein will work as an allegory both for Ethan's relationship with villains such as Jim and Lane and Ethan's relationship with IMF (MI often presents the IMF and the enemies it sends ethan after as being pretty interchangeable). And Ethan gradually growing into someone who's willing to take on the responsibility and authority that others have used to hurt him and the people he loves...and trust himself with that, trust that he won't hurt anyone, and do his best to use that power to take care of people who need him...I feel like that's the main way that the 'shifting IMF' arc in MI will be represented in the CM AU. There's another facet here of Ethan's relationship with his own team, which is a whole other can of worms. Ethan in CM AU struggles near constantly with the issue of his own helplessness to protect the people he cares about from getting hurt by the system they're in. That's something he deals with in a lot of ways--particularly, once they are out of school, and in the professional world, I think there's some element of Ethan trying to develop personal ties into professional collaboration through chamber music, keeping in touch, doing everything he can to create a "team" that he can look out for. And I think it probably works to some extent, and in a lot of ways ends up being healthier than the MI team cause they're allowed to have their own full lives.
A lot of this will also probably change as I start to work my way through the later movies! I have preliminary ideas through RN but it's not written out or formalized much.
Thank you so much for asking:)))))))

Do certain entities from horror games count as computer viruses to slammer? Like Monika from Dili dojo literature, or anything from IMSCARED
Can the slammer virus infect both digital and organic entities in a world?
Mod Monnie: Thank you seriously, I know I've said that already but even having just one person sending asks and interacting really helps me! And defiantly encourages me to keep working/thinking for Slammer!
Tumblr media
Do certain entities from horror games count as computer viruses to slammer?
1: I hate the mental image of this, but YES if it's written in any sort of code Slammer can effect it, and best part about games at least in Slammer's case is they don't have their own virus protection so it's easy to slip into their code.
I think Slammer would have a Field day in IMSCARED due to how the game itself interacts with your pc and does strange things, It's one of few times where an actual person would see Slammer and get interacted with by them.
They are more then smart enough to get out of a game before it's deleted too, and thanks to the way their code works now even if you delete and reinstall a game the damage will stay the same, so a whole new copy is needed that's how powerful the virus can become.
It has been stated in the past but once Slammer makes copies of themself, the copies will find their own hosts inside different games, though 3D Games are alot harder so it's likely they'd stick with more simple games at first.
WHICH MEANS AND THIS IS THE MENTAL IMAGE I HATE, IT'S VERY POSSIBLE A COPY OF THE SLAMMER VIRUS COULD BECOME MONIKA AND SLAMMER MONIKA FRIGHTENS ME LMAO.
Slightly unrelated to the question, but anyone has permission to make a slammer variant of whatever game character they want as long as I get to see it, and technically it will be considered canon. Each copy of the virus will have it's own host, but no Slammer would ever take the same character as another Slammer has.
So there would only be ONE Slammer sonic and that's the prime/original slammer, much like any other character a copy of the virus has. There's only one host per character from each game it infects.
Can the slammer virus infect both digital and organic entities in a world?
2: yes and yes, if it's a video game no matter what the entity is, Slammer can infect it however if a character is digital/mechanical in nature Slammer could easily infect them almost instantly.
The reason why Slammer chose Sonic as their host, is because it wanted a challenge, whenever a copy of Slammer enters a game world it becomes like an actual world, so it will start out as a small semi robotic worm just a single one and then find itself a host.
Once it finds a way to get their desired host infected, it will lay eggs in their body and slowly slither it's way into the middle of their brain and control them, keeping the infected host both alive and still completely aware... an infected host is still there still able to feel everything that happens to it's body.
But is unable to stop it, they can see the world around them but have no control of their body trapped in their own minds as their body is used like a puppet.
Each version of Slammer will have a "True Form" a "Disguise" and a "Full power mode" once they reach full power mode and no character is left in the game, the Slammer copy will then leave the game and produce more copies of it self for the cycle to continue.

Time for another round of Andrew Marvell Is Weird About Plants!
"The Mower against Gardens"
Andrew Marvell
Luxurious man, to bring his vice in use, Did after him the world seduce, And from the fields the flowers and plants allure, Where nature was most plain and pure. He first enclosed within the gardens square A dead and standing pool of air, And a more luscious earth for them did knead, Which stupified them while it fed. The pink grew then as double as his mind; The nutriment did change the kind. With strange perfumes he did the roses taint, And flowers themselves were taught to paint. The tulip, white, did for complexion seek, And learned to interline its cheek: Its onion root they then so high did hold, That one was for a meadow sold. Another world was searched, through oceans new, To find the Marvel of Peru. And yet these rarities might be allowed To man, that sovereign thing and proud, Had he not dealt between the bark and tree, Forbidden mixtures there to see. No plant now knew the stock from which it came; He grafts upon the wild the tame: That th’ uncertain and adulterate fruit Might put the palate in dispute. His green seraglio has its eunuchs too, Lest any tyrant him outdo. And in the cherry he does nature vex, To procreate without a sex. ’Tis all enforced, the fountain and the grot, While the sweet fields do lie forgot: Where willing nature does to all dispense A wild and fragrant innocence: And fauns and fairies do the meadows till, More by their presence than their skill. Their statues, polished by some ancient hand, May to adorn the gardens stand: But howsoe’er the figures do excel, The gods themselves with us do dwell.
English gardens in the 17th century were often designed along complex geometric patterns, carefully laid out with different areas designated for different types of plants. (details and photos: https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/learn/story-of-england/stuarts/landscape/)
You may recognize the "Mower" character from other poems of Marvell's--I think I most recently posted "The Mower to the Glow-worms"?--anyway, here, he contrasts the natural with the unnatural/artificial both in horticulture and society. There's a certain deliberately jarring irony, I think, in the equation of what we may think of as productive agricultural technologies with social, economic, and sexual corruption and disruption. (Note the allusion to the then quite contemporary tulip bubble!) Does the poem come down against innovation? Or does it hint that the fantasized Golden Age--natural, innocent, productive yet virginal--is not quite possible, or at least does not contain the whole of human happiness? Convenient fountains and grafted fruit are kind of nice. Or is the price too high after all? (Or does even that formulation of the question reveal a capitalist, tulip-trading way of thinking that is incompatible with the Mower's way of life?) (Does Marvell agree with the Mower? Can we know?)
Like "The Garden," which I posted earlier in what appears to be becoming a series, this poem features a single human figure in a world of plants. In "The Garden," however, the main contrast was between the busy, ambitious world of humans and the quiet of the garden, which was framed as an Edenic and even pre-Eve state, full of almost erotic pleasures but without the pressure of passion. "The Mower against Gardens" addresses similar themes but reshuffles the metaphor, placing a divide within the botanical world between the cultivated garden and the natural fields.
Tune in next time I think of it for, oh, possibly "The Definition of Love"?

Little worm
Tumblr media
Good and kind game about move though the screen. Little worm is crawling as a guest to a friend to a little house of a friend. At the tea. You can dig into the surface or climb up at the surface. You need to avoid obstacles.  At the top – trees. From the down – stones. And move forward. Game is by screens. Simple. Good and kind. Fast. About kind animals.
Tumblr media
It is small, good and kind game about little worm. Which is moving by game screens. And he goes to a friend as a guest. Good and kind worm. He is crawling to his friend. It is main idea of a game. It is one more game about good and kind theme. Little worm has lots of friends. They are different good and kind animals.  Mole, ant, fish, mouse, green bug, bee. Lots of friends. And it is not a full list of a little friends. Little worm has lots of friends.
Tumblr media
So, we have a new day. Excellent day. Sun. Clouds. Blue sky. Green grass. And trees. Good weather. Earth. Under the ground there are stones. And little worm who is crawling by the screens.
Game has whole three levels. Game can be completed very fast. And game can be good for free time or positive. As a good and kind game. Three levels.  At the for first level - 1 game screen, at the second level - 2 screens you need to go, and at the third level, whole three games screens you need to crawl. And after that little worm will go to his little house. He goes to a friend, and everything is fine, nice weather, and he visited lots of friends, and drinks lots of tea with a friends. And now he can go to his home.
Tumblr media
So, little worm needs to crawl though the game screen. For this purpose, he can move forward. And move up and down. To dig into the ground and to rise to the higher ground, at the top of ground. At the ground obstacles are – trees. And under the ground -it is stones. Through obstacles you cannot move through them. You need to change level of presence. At the ground or under the ground. Somewhere that’s for sure there is a way.
Tumblr media
So, imagine, you crawl though grass forward.  And here you see obstacle – tree. What you need to do? That’s right! To dig into the ground.  And you are crawling forward under the ground.  And here you see obstacle before you – stone.  What you need to do? To raise to the upper level! And move already at the ground. So, this is the way game is build.
Tumblr media
Game is incredibly simple.  And more is done for positive. For positive emotions. And it is one more game about kind and good animals. So little worm wants to crawl to his friend. He needs to crawl through game screens. And to reach house of his friend. For a tea, for example. Everyone is good and kind here! And friendly too!
There is a sun all the time at the field. Everything is green. Weather is good.
Tumblr media
Little worm wakes up at the morning. Day was just perfect. It has ended raining. And warm sun is shining. There are a little of blue clouds at the sky. All of them are moving by their own things to do.
And little worm starts his day from a morning exercises. And after that he crawls to his friend, as a guest. Little house of a friend is somewhere at the magic field. You need to crawl forward! And that’s for sure -you will reach the place!
Tumblr media
To avoid tree at your way – you need to dig into the ground. And to avoid stones under the ground – you need to raise at the higher ground.
What a beautiful day is today! It is a thing, that little worm is thinking about!

I'm gonna be honest, I'm way later to this than I'd like to be so I'm gonna try to just absolutely blitz through these so I can get onto a project that might end up taking a lot of work'
Black Country, New Road - Ants From Up There
Note to self: make a post dedicated to this album. It's musically meticulous and thematically compelling, and some of the lyrical work is truly crushing, like you are watching a man crumble slowly over the course of the album's hour-long runtime. It's an absolutely incredible work of art and would be one of my go-tos to demonstrate the unique potential of albums as a format.
With that last note in mind, I would of course recommend a back-to-back listen above all else, but if you must try a song first, I'd suggest the first proper song Chaos Space Marine
Young Fathers - Heavy Heavy
This is one of those warm albums that feel really communal and welcoming. It's got more angry moments - I Saw, for example has a war drum rhythm to it as the vocals on the verse are practically spat out - but for the most part, this is a very laid-back listen that captures an improvisational magic without the drawbacks that usually brings.
The previously mentioned I Saw is definitely my favourite from the album, but as I said, it doesn't exactly embody the album's best features. If you want a song that does that, try Geronimo. The song's lyrics tend to speak on the negative sides of life and the inevitability of it's end, but the music, along with some important glimmers within the lyrics, tell you that there is a beauty to even that.
Mitski - Puberty 2
I hear we're all gay here, so I imagine you all know that Mitski is good by now, but just to confirm, Mitski is good. I had heard Bury Me at Makeout Creek a while ago, and intended to listen to more after that, but the first song I heard outside that album was My Body's Made of Crushed Little Stars, which is a great song, but gave me the total wrong idea of this album. Yes, there is a little more experimentation than I remember being on BMAMC, but I was under the impression that it would be way more abrasive from that first impression, and that's great for 2 minutes, but over a whole album, that'd be a lot, at least for me.
I am glad that I eventually got around to this though, because it was a great album. I would have been particularly worse off never having heard Your Best American Girl. It's an excruciating story of a protagonist who is in love with someone who is of an untenably different culture to themselves, which leads to tension, embodied by parental disapproval. It's a great song delivered with buckets of emotion, particularly when the chorus hits.
Mitski - Be the Cowboy
Honestly, this one didn't hit as much for me, which given everything I heard surprised me. I found that most of these songs ended too quickly to make an impact, and I didn't see anything on the album scale to write home about either. She's still clearly demonstrating her talent, and it's still made up of good songs, but they just lacked the impact of her other two albums for me.
That being said, I did particularly enjoy Nobody. The contrast of the disco-leaning instrumental, along with the pretty bouncy vocal melody against the loneliness the lyrics speak about somehow enhance that feeling of it being out of reach. As if Mitski is being taunted by it. It's very effective.
Japanese Breakfast - Soft Sounds From Another Planet
I am just now noticing the colour theme of the albums I was listening to around this time. Something about orange and yellow spoke to me this month.
This album is incredible. It's the first true demonstration of what makes Japanese Breakfast such a great project for me. The album is broadly indie pop, but it's the form of indie pop that's special: Michelle Zauner carved a niche sound from materials of the more music nerd side of pop music with the tools of lo-fi and soundtracks. The pop music materials come simply from the quality of the production and somewhat normal song structure which come along with some slight experimentation here and there in regards to the sound of the album, that latter point bringing us to lo-fi, which also gives us that unique comfortable, cozy vibe that you hear with Japanese Breakfast, and then the soundtracks portion comes from her excellent ear for creating the ideal atmosphere for a given song's themes.
All the songs on this album, especially the first half, are amazing and pretty representative of the album's sound, but I really wanna focus on Machinist, a relatively experimental cut. It's a song about a lover not being as vulnerable with you as you'd like and that's great, as is the fact that it's conveyed through a story of a woman falling in love with a literal robot, but the instrumental really sells this. There is a constant battle between mechanical coldness and human warmth in the song best conveyed at the end where a sax solo is accompanied by a robotic synth and very faint, distant, robotic vocals. This woman is a genius.
If you'd like something a little more normal, Boyish is also very good. It's a pretty straightforward song about romantic insecurity. If the narrator and protagonist is reliable, their boyfriend is staring at a waitress instead of their date, who isn't buying his attempts at reassurance, and is desperate to feel equally as seen as the stranger he's enamored with. There's a little unreliability to the narration though, because the sentiment switches from spite to yearning often, from "if you go to her, don't expect to come home to me" to "I can't get you off my mind" (followed by the currently irrelevant, but very witty "I can't get you off in general", love that, 10/10, sad tho). That introduces a layer of personal interpretation though: is it a song about anxiety told through a wholly unreliable narrator or is it actually about your significant other not being especially sexually attracted to you? Both are very interesting, and both seem like valid interpretations to me.
Japanese Breakfast - Jubilee
I love this album so much I made a post about it earlier this month, and I'm pretty proud of it, so please check that out if you're interested in reading more than just "it good. It very good"
Kate Bush - The Dreaming
Don't ask me why this is my first Kate Bush album. I could've sworn I saw this on some list ahead of Hounds of Love or having a higher aggregated rating somewhere or something like that but I can't find it anywhere now that I'm looking for it. But anyway, this is a great album. It provided everything I expected from a Kate Bush album, the weirdness, the stylistically all-over-the-place vocals, the general theatricality... But it also took that style in different directions than I expected, such as with the menacing title track about colonialism.
The song I'd recommend would probably be the fairly expectation-aligned Sat In Your Lap though. Honestly, if you've heard a Kate Bush song before, you won't need a taster for the album at all, it's more of that, but if you need to be reassured of that, the opener is a great example of it.
SZA - Ctrl
I didn't get SOS, unfortunately, felt it was a little bloated, but maybe it's worth a revisit, because over an hour of this seems pretty great. SZA's writing is all incredibly authentic and personal, and her vocals drip sweetly over any instrumental tried here. You don't need another stranger on the internet to tell you that this is a must-listen R&B album, but here I am, yet another stranger on the internet calling this a must-listen album.
My favourite from the album is probably Drew Barrymore, a reverb-drenched song about a relationship that is ruined by jealousy and self-hatred on the part of the protagonist. This is my favourite example of vocal honey on this album, too. This, for me, encompasses all the album's strengths brilliantly.
Squid - Bright Green Field
Bright Green Field is arguably the clearest demonstration of Squid's unique sound. It balances the ideals of punk and funk excellently while adding in some kraut-rock and Radiohead-esque ideas too. I think I might prefer O Monolith personally, but this album is both very close in quality and absolutely crucial for the band.
I think if I were to recommend a song from this album, as much as I love Narrator, I imagine it'd be G.S.K. that best positions the album for enjoyment, at least for most people. It sets up a lot of the themes surrounding urbanization and the contrasting of modern life with the natural to demonstrate modernity's absurdity, and does so expertly, while also providing on the instrumental front with that funk-infused post-punk that makes the album so unique.
Squid - O Monolith
As I said in the previous write-up, this is my preferred Squid album. It leans on that Radiohead influence a little more, I think, which is why I'm glad they established their own sound with their debut first, but I think the sound here is just more to my tastes, and better suits their focus on this record, which is hard to pin down, but it feels more broadly mechanical than the previous outing, more rigid.
I think there are a few really good recommendations for songs from this album, but I'll stick with the critique on policing and generally violent power over others afforded to the otherwise powerless: The Blades. This is one of my favourite songs, period, let alone from Squid or off this album. The way it gets in the head of someone whose only access to power is through the violence of law enforcement, and demonstrates the urge to use that power in that environment is just superb. And it demonstrates it all while also criticizing the amount of power they are afforded and how that makes matters even worse. I love it.
Black Country, New Road - For the First Time
Welcome to the best new six-part post-punk debut album! I hear the Slint influence is a little heavy here, but for one, that doesn't really bother me, and two, I haven't heard Slint yet, so I wouldn't know. Regardless, this album is incredible at getting you into a sort of dark groove, and eventually, when the time is right, uprooting that groove and leaving you completely at a loss for what to expect. Even when you've heard the album many times over like I have, there's a part of you that can't keep up with the erratic shifts in the music within individual songs.
That incredible aspect of the album is best portrayed in the album's best track for me, Sunglasses. It touches on so many themes, which makes it hard to pin down exactly what the song is about, but it seems clearly about wealth and delusion in some way. For me, I think it's about the protagonist being seduced by the toxic comfort of wealth and delusion that wealth is earned and not happened upon randomly. It's a complex song though, and I'm sure there are plenty of valid interpretations. It is 9 minutes, but it's so good and dynamic that you are unlikely to feel all that time pass. Give it a listen if you like the sound of everything I've written here!
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven
I never really had a resonant experience with instrumental tracks, which really made me skeptical going into this album. I have had plenty of positive experiences with instrumentals, but they're always pretty analytical, I rarely actually feel anything all that strong when listening. Add on top of that the length of the songs, with each of the four tracks being around 20 minutes, and it was a bit of a long shot. That being said though, this did resonate with me. After a stressful day, I just laid back, put this album on and relaxed for an hour and a half and I felt the album eat the stress from inside of me like a growing black hole, sucking up negative emotion. It was so thoroughly uplifting that I couldn't possibly hope to analyze it. It's difficult to recommend the way I usually would, but if you love music, especially stuff in the alternative and indie orbit, I'd suggest giving this a listen when you have some time to kill, especially if you're stressed or otherwise burdened.
Genesis Owusu - STRUGGLER
From an album that is very happy within a small niche, to an album that could be engaged with on some level by anyone, STRUGGLER is a dance-informed neo-soul album (I guess) that really makes use of the medium by using and reusing metaphors from within it's borders to reinforce themes, and explore new elements of that metaphor that consider the already established subtext. It's all very clever concept album stuff, and I always respect when an artist commits to a concept like this, especially ones who can still make songs stand on their own outside of the context of the album. It's very impressive.
I'd probably say Tied Up! is the best shout for a song to try, it's exceptionally groovy and is probably the point in the album where I'd say it really finds it's groove, which is on the late side, so hearing that in advance could reassure you that the album does actually find it's feet eventually.
shame - Food For Worms
This album is a weird one just because it doesn't really stick to a sound all that much. It bounces very quickly between punky songs like Alibis to a softer alternative style in tracks like Adderall a lot and it makes it hard to settle in a way that I think makes the album listening experience worse than if it were, for example, two EPs of comparable style. Of course, stylistic diversity is often a plus, but it has to be done better than this.
The songs are all pretty great in isolation though, especially when it does get a little punkier, such as with the previously mention Alibis (my personal favourite), or the song I'd recommend, lead single Six-Pack. First things first, that guitar sound is absolutely phenomenal. It gives off an erratic feel, and one of a shifting, untrustworthy nature. And then there's that hyped up vocal performance that embodies frustration at the comfortable delusion characterized in the lyrics.
IDLES - Joy As an Act of Resistance
This was incredible. The name pretty much sums it up. It's a post-hardcore album that is very aggressive on the surface level, but will often have a heart of gold, such as with Danny Nedelko, a song that stands in defiant support of immigrants and immigration, named after the writer's friend originally from Ukraine.
The song I'd recommend is largely just aggressive, but still with a pretty warm thesis in the end, and that would be Never Fight a Man with a Perm, a song about pub violence and the silliness of the extreme macho personas on display in those environments.
IDLES - Brutalism
I didn't like this one as much as Joy, but there were still some definite highlights. For one, it is a lot more punk. This album is absolutely punk to the core, and doesn't share the optimism of my preferred album, which does provide a more cathartic experience.
My favourite is probably Stendhal Syndrome, an album about artistic philistines; the type of person to look at an artwork and judge it based solely on the technical ability on display and not the vision of the artist or the art's emotional impact. Plenty is already made of punk's political leanings, but very little is the subculture's love and passion for art at the forefront, and it's good to see that being focused on here.
Blur - The Ballad of Darren
Unfortunately I don't have much to say about this one. I was hopeful going into it because I did quite like St. Charles Square, but almost all of the album just bounced off me leaving no real impression. Maybe it's worth a revisit one day, because I did mostly respect it on an analytical album, but it didn't make me feel much at all. If you like indie rock, maybe it's worth a listen, I hope you like it more than I do.

Oh thanks for the alt modes! For Shockwave tho I was kiiiiiinda moreso wondering how it fits into the functionist world? Like I don't like the functionists but if your AU is still kinda in their worldview a little, what "purpose" does an ambulatory vehicle like that have? Perhaps all terrain exploration?
oh this Cybertron is very functionist. however, the class determination is a lil wonky and not dependent solely upon alt mode. an ambulatory vehicle like Shockwave isn't super special, in that he can essentially fill a whole variety of functions. it's a less common alt mode than cars or trucks but just as if not sometimes more versatile than wheeled alts, so there is no single function here like some very specialized alt modes may have
middle to low class mecha with this alt mode are likely to be given fairly standard odd jobs that suit their alt mode in a whole variety of fields, or perhaps the undesirable ones if a specialized alt isn't available. middle to high class mecha are likely to be given unrelated functions that may focus on interpersonal/emotional/data work instead of being strictly alt mode related. this is typical of very common generalized alt modes like trucks too, where class will determine how locked into your alt mode's purpose you are. this is one of the reasons you'll find every kind of frametype in every possible function out there. turns out absolute unyielding functionism doesn't work really well and exceptions, compromises, and quick fixes must be made. if you put every single one of your many, many car alt mode mecha in the racing function, you'll have a sudden lack of folks to fill more mundane roles like cashiers, accountants, cleaners, nannies, etc, which are much more vital functions than just using wheels to go fast
(this is also applicable to marginalized frametypes like beastformers but for a very different reason. high class/better treated/freer functioned beastformers are pointed to as an example of how oh they aren't really oppressed or discriminated against, see?? how could there be beastformer senators if nobody was willing to assign higher functions to your frametype? don't complain, just work harder and maybe someday you'll be worthy too!)
Shockwave specifically had a very good upbringing that gave him status as relatively higher class, even though his alt mode was unremarkable. this along with his intelligence put him on track to get alt mode exemption so he could have a function other than his original assigned urban planning function. he eventually wormed his way into politics and now his official function is being a Senator, although he's on furlough while he's principal of the JAAT

WHY BUILDMART SLAPS ACTUALLY
(This is the result of one too many salty twitter stans)
(Yes there are almost definitely some mistakes here but my point is hopefully clear either way)
With MCC today, people are back on their bullshit about buildmart, you know the ones
'Oh buildmart sucks it should be removed mememememememe'
HERES WHY BUILDMART IS SO GOOD AND WE SHOULD BE NICE TO SCOTT, NOXCREW AND THE TESTERS ACTUALLY
The current games are in 3 different 'categories': PVP, last man standing and teamwork.
PVP is obviously battle box, survival games and sky battle, where the players must always fight to the death (or launch themselves into the void).
Last man standing would be games like Hole in the Wall, TGTTOSAWAF, Ace Race and Rocket Spleef, where there is only one solo winner.
Teamwork would be Buildmart, Meltdown, Grid Runners and Sands of Time, where the goal is ultimately to collect coins and work together with full cooperation.
While Meltdown could count as PVP, its balanced enough that teamwork is more of a priority. Parkour Tag also works as a mix of all three.
Buildmart evens out the playing field, as 3 of the current 12 games are solely pvp related, not counting games like parkour tag, where the player is constantly concentrating on running from a hunter, or tgttosawaf/rocket spleef, where there are always hands beng thrown
It is one of the few games with no pvp at all, no players constantly punching each other, and that can be a welcome break for some participants, especially people who just want to chill, they can just place blocks
Contrary to popular belief, it is not just a building game. Buildmart is focused on teamwork, and comes into the same category as something like Sands of Time, but is solely peaceful.
Yet because it is just a building game, some people really dislike it
I dont understand why! (Well I do, its because some of the participants unfairly criticise Buildmart in comparison to almost every other game, and I dont want to be mean or rude because obviously Buildmart isn't going to be everybody's cup of tea, but come on! It's one game!)
Of all the participants, there are many who come from backgrounds of PVP or Building or Speedrunning or Variety. Some even do all of them!
There's games for people who constantly do PVP fights, who know exactly the correct timing to get the perfect crits and the best angle to fire a bow at
There's games for the hunters, for people who know exactly where to time a 4 block jump, who can perfect their mouse movements to never stop running
Theres games for people who thrive in multifaceted games, where every action is different and a bit of a challenge, but not so much so that its frustrating
And the Builders have Buildmart, which in its consistant updates, is beautiful, has creative yet simple builds, clearly labelled sections for materials and inspires talking and cooperation
But only Buildmart is, for lack of better terms, absolutely shat on.
While yes, some games are moaned at when they come up for personal preference, like Battle Box for a non-PVP team, I've never seen a game hated more than Buildmart (except maybe Parkour Warrior but thats a whole other can of worms, also as it's been removed for quite a while and doesn't seem to be coming back (Apollo dont interact))
Despite the fact that it's a game that evens the playing field a lot for players who just like to chill and make things in minecraft, which I can also assume is many fans favourite thing to do
Ig that's about it, even though I've probably forgotten some stuff but hey, theres some things
TL:DR - Buildmart is not as bad as people make it out to be, and it helps make things less stressful in terms of thinking on your feet and constant adrenaline
