you know what trope drives me absolutely feral? Repetition. Just :
"Hey, hey, it's okay"
"Shh, you're safe, you're safe, it's alright "
"Look at me. Hey, look at me"
"Stay with me. Come on, just stay with me"
"It's over. It's over now."
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry"
"I'm here. I'm right here"

Whumpee awakens curled in the backseat in someone's arms.
They look down, their entire torso is drenched with blood.
They start to panic, but someone holds them tightly. "Shhh, shh sh, it's okay, go back to sleep. Close your eyes." Someone grabs a blanket and covers their chest with it.
"You're going to be fine, I got you. Go back to sleep... Please."
A hand brushes over their face and closes their eyes. Whumpee finds themselves doing what the voice tells them to.

Attention Whump Community!
Clogging disability tags is a massive problem that we need to address. Many tags, especially those surrounding permanent injuries, paralysis, vision loss and certain illnesses have become unusable due to being flooded with unrelated things. Yes, that includes your writing. Those tags are not for you. It's isolating, frustrating and depressing to try finding a community and other people who share your issues but all that comes up is whump, fandom shit, gifs, headcanons, etc.
I'm newly paralyzed. I have looked at many tags surrounding paralysis, trying to find support, a community, anything of people struggling with the same thing. Nothing. There's barely anything for us in the general disabilty tags. I am BEGGING you to understand and recognize how AWFUL it is.
So, I have a proposition. A tag you can and should use exclusively for disability content in whump writing. Not any other tag surrounding disability, lest you'll clog it up.
#disabled whumpee
It's tempting to use more specific tags, I get it. Due to being in the whump community myself I know #medical whump is already a tag. You have those tags. Use them. Don't use the disability tags. Don't clog up the few spaces us disabled people have.

the weary feverish whumpee aesthetic™
I love it when a whumpee is so weak that they:
are bedridden, much to their discomfort. They long to leave the bed, but cannot because they are too weak, and their legs shake at the thought of taking even a single step.
can't keep their eyes open. Their eyelids flutter but due to tiredness and too much light, they always close again. However, the whumpee has learned to rely on other senses, and is able to recognize the caretaker's voice or touch among a thousand others.
have to always lie down. They try to sit up, perhaps to eat something, but after a few minutes their head starts spinning and their body starts screaming because of the effort. Much to their chagrin, they have to force themselves back down or else they will likely pass out.
are not hungry. Their body can't handle even plain broth, making them queasy and dizzy. So they continue to refuse food, their only source of livelihood, and this obviously worsens their condition.
are too sensitive to touch. Their skin that seems to boil with fever, the bedsheets that rub down their limbs like sandpaper, the hair that sticks to their sweaty forehead, even the simple touch of the caretaker, a touch that is supposed to comfort them, is too much. They start to hate all these little things.
Please, feel free to add more.

God, I love sickfics that cut between a Whumpee’s current illness, and illnesses they’ve had in the past. Before, being sick was traumatic and lonely. Maybe they were neglected or even ostracized for their illness. In the present day, they don’t know how to handle being loved.

A sleepwalking Whumpee who instinctively wanders into "safe" spots (ex. under beds, in closets, under tables, behind couches, etc.)
The one time Caretaker tried to wake them up, Whumpee flew into a night terror and hurt themselves in the process.
Caretaker now has to play advanced hide-n-seek every morning. Whumpee's best spot so far has on top of the fridge, even if it did stress Caretaker the hell out.

"NO, NO STOP IT!" Caretaker screamed at Whumper as they held Whumpee underwater.
Caretaker pulled at their chains hard, their wrists bruising with all the strain. They could only watch as Whumpee struggled and squirmed against Whumper's firm hold. That water was freezing, and it was only a matter of time before they'd drown.
"FUCKING STOP IT! LET THEM GO YOU BASTARD!" Caretaker continued to shout as Whumpee's movement became less frequent and slow.
"You should have thought this through Caretaker, now your sweet Whumpee will die at the hands of your worst enemy." Whumper said, a devilish grin spreading across their face.
"Like hell with that." A voice said as two people stormed into the room, rifles in hand.
"Teammate 1...Teammate 2 what are you doing here?!" Caretaker asked as Teammate 1 started to unlock his chains, and Teammate 2 dealt with Whumper.
"Saving you guys of course." They said.
Teammate 2 had Whumper back into the wall whilst they pulled Whumpee's limp body out of the bathtub. As soon as Teammate 1 released Caretaker, they rushed over to Whumpee.
"Come on Whumpee, come on, please, please..." They said frantically, starting to perform CPR on them. "Come on wake up Whumpee please!"
Just when they thought it was too late, Whumpee coughed up a mouthful of water and gasped for air. Caretaker huffed out a laugh and brought Whumpee into a tight hug.
"Oh thank fuck I thought I'd lost you..." They said.
"You're alright..." Whumpee sobbed, wrapping their arms around Caretaker's shoulders.
"I'm okay, you're alright now, I promise."

Caretaker seeing a normally stoic and confident whumpee, now cowering, shaking and terrified because of whatever the the Whumper has done to them.
Drugs, shock treatment, mental torture - anything.
The harsh contrast gives me chillssss

Characters Holding Each Other In Whump
This is my demand to see more characters holding each other in whump, but also my opportunity to go on about characters holding each other in whump.
I need more of it, it's so warm, and great when it's characters dependent and safe to one another. Or it's creepy and harrowing when it's between whumper and anything.
I need more of
Caretaker finally reaching whumpee, and pulling them to their chest. Now that they are within each other's arms Caretaker is not letting go.
Multiple whumpees who cannot see each other directly, but hear their voices and reach their hands just far enough to feel each other's touch. Maybe they're reaching out between cell bars, perhaps there's a hole in the walls of an enclosure, or an open slot to a lab. Either way, they've found a hand to hold.
A distraught whumpee crawling over to their only friend, and waiting to be pulled into someone's lap.
When a known threat (whumper) approaches and a protective character pulls another into their grasp to shield them.
Two shivering characters latched onto each other, removing as much space between themselves as possible. After all, what if someone separates them again?
Whumper holding whumpee from behind, swaying them back and forth, listening to the subtle sounds of fright.
Two words: Bridal Carry. Whumpee nuzzling their face into caretaker's chest for bonus points. For extra bonus points, latching onto to caretaker's clothing despite being carried.
Whumpee trying to escape from a whumper they've pummeled thoroughly, only for the half-conscious whumper to grab whumpee one last time. Is it a pleading? A don't go? Or just a final act of terror?
Caretaker sitting on the bed next to a whumpee, and bringing them into their grasp as they whimper.

Soft Caretaker & Tough Whumpee
Caretaker working up the courage to ask Whumpee if they want to have their bandages changed because they're too terrified of their ominous presence.
When Whumpee burns themselves and they don't feel the pain because of their high tolerance and it's Caretaker that freaks out and cries over it
When Caretaker is the one that has the dreadful nightmares of losing Whumpee
"What? Doesn't that hurt...?"
Reassuring Caretaker when they are so certain Whumpee has grown cold and distant after the torturous events
Whumpee that humours themselves using their trauma, and Caretaker growing uncomfortable
"Caretaker, this reminds me of when Whumper tried to brand me so I broke Whumper's wrist. It was hilarious, you should've seen their face."
When Whumpee is over the pain already and just wants to eat something while Caretaker is unable to comprehend how someone is so relaxed
Whumpee that has a revenge plan immediately after being freed and not afraid at all to go after their attacker(s)
Whumpee that slowly begins to act like their Whumper(s) and Caretaker is noticing it
Sitting alone together and Caretaker is too afraid of Whumpee to move a muscle
"I can do it myself." "But both your legs are broken." "I can still walk."
Slapping away needles and Caretaker just accepting that they won't listen
Punching, kicking, etc... when being touched out of reflex and then apologizing
"Yeah, Whumpee is a handful."

Sleepy
“Welcome back.”
Whumpee blinked a couple times and stared into the amused eyes of Caretaker, who was smiling at him from behind his desk.
“I didn’t go anywhere?” he muttered. Whoa, his voice was all gravelly. Weird. He shifted on the sofa where he’d been splayed out for the afternoon, helping Caretaker finish some work. His body felt all heavy, his movements sluggish… actually, everything from his thoughts to his limbs all went on a slower pace.
And when he couldn’t stifle a yawn, the gears clanked into place.
“Wait, I fell asleep?!” he bumbled, mouth still mid-yawn.
“You were even snoring.”
He gaped at Caretaker, pushing himself up to a slightly more dignified reclining position. The silence between them broke by the slither of paper slowly sliding from his stomach and scattering over the floor.
“Oh shit.” He startled up, hand reaching out in a half-hearted attempt to catch the files.
“Given the content of what you’re reading… not very surprising," Caretaker said, no scorn of judgment in his voice whatsoever.
If those legal documents were indeed the cause of him nodding off, Whumpee swore he’d find a way to smuggle all the confidential files out of the building and use them that very night. But somehow he doubted the dry sentences were the reason.
“How long did I sleep?”
A quick glance at the clock. “Over an hour now.”
“Why didn’t you wake me? I promised I’d look this over for you.” He waved with the papers he now tried to put back in order.
Caretaker shrugged. “You looked like you needed it.”
Whumpee wiped a hand over his face and sighed into his palm. “God, I do. I did. I haven’t slept like this in…” Months? Not since— He shook his head. And to feel groggy, like this? Usually when he woke up, he could feel he wasn’t rested but his body and mind shot to alert as soon as he would open his eyes and wouldn’t go back to sleep again.
To actually feel his body begging him for more sleep now, just to turn over and close his eyes again for a minute. Gods, it felt like heaven.
He gave in and closed his eyes again. Everything turned heavy, but not in a bad way. It was comforting. “Of all places to finally get some sleep,” he mumbled, “it’s in your bloody office.”
“Maybe you feel safe here.”
Whumpee smiled, eyes still closed. Yes, safe. With you.

Loveee the idea of a usually nurturing/ gentle caretaker left absolutely fuming as they tend to whumpee's wounds. Those kind, warm eyes turned to sharp glass shards, that soft smile replaced by an ugly scowl. They're muttering under their breath, eyes filled with rage as they take in what has become of their friend, tremors of anger in their hands as they wrap up whumpee's wound.
Caretaker is not angry at whumpee, but how would they know? Unsurprisingly, they feel responsible for caretaker's fury, and soon they're fighting back tears as guilt blossoms in their chest.
Caretaker, who had before been oblivious to whumpee's emotional state, finally meets their eyes. They pause, shocked, and all rage disappears from their face when they notice the silent tears sliding down their friend's cheeks.
Caretaker's brow creases in worry as they place a gentle hand on whumpee's cheek. 'Oh shit, baby. I'm not mad at you,' they whisper in the softest voice they can muster.
Now, will whumpee shrink away from the touch, the fear fresh in their mind? Or will they melt into it, relieved by the fact that caretaker's anger is not directed towards them?

It was early morning by the time someone had found Hero. They had been left to die, blood caked in their wounds and clothing soaked with dew. Left along the riverbank, Hero was curled up tightly, shivering against the morning waves that lapped at their ankles. They were barely conscious when Villain had stumbled upon them.
Hero’s first response had been to fight back. The moment Villain reached out a hand, they sprung forward, raking their nails down the Villain’s cheek. They kicked and cried out, though their voice had been worn from their throat long ago. Soon Hero could do nothing but whimper, drawing back just before they slumped into the soil.
When Hero did wake they were feverish. Villain’s attention had been drawn over the moment they heard splashing, turning to find the crime fighter thrashing in the tub. They rushed over, readying a towel as if they could dry all the puddles that now doused the tile.
“Hey, hey,” Villain placed a hand on the small Hero’s shoulder and they whirled around, eyes wide. Like a spooked animal, Hero flinched back.
“It’s alright,” Villain placed their words carefully. Surely Hero knew that they were nothing short of enemies, and any wrong move could send the crimefighter into a frenzy. Villain couldn’t risk them getting injured worse. Their history meant nothing now. Not until they fixed this. “Breathe for me okay? It’s just a bath, I’ve got to clean your wounds or they’re going to get infected.”
Once the words had sunk in, Hero settled a little. The crease in their brow had faded, though the frown didn’t leave their face. Eyes drifting down to the bath, beneath the suds, their voice shook, “You-”
“Your old clothes were in tatters. Unsalvageable.” Villain saw the way Hero tensed and was quick to reassure them, “I didn’t look- you were wrapped in a blanket up until the tub, I swear it.” They looked away, opting for the cloth they had brought along with them rather than gazing into Hero’s tired eyes.
Villain raised the cloth and Hero immediately flinched away. They remained still like that for a moment. Two gazes locked in a silent conversation. One carried fear and mistrust, while the other held a determination to heal even though they could never understand why. Villain spoke before they could think.
“I’ll be gentle. You can tell me to stop at any time, but I figured you wouldn’t want to be covered in grime forever.”
Their hand remained poised in the air while Hero met their gaze. There was something hidden within all the fear. Relief? Maybe.
Slowly, Hero nodded, scooting closer so the Villain could reach them.
While Villain wiped the blood from their wounds they were careful not to disturb any inch of the Hero’s skin. The two were caught in a deep silence, but despite everything it was comfortable. Dipping the rag into the suds of the bath, Villain came up to the Hero’s shoulders and brushed away layers of mud. Beneath the skin was pale, though not as light as it had been when they had first found the Hero. Then it had been nearly translucent, veins the same deep shade of the bruises that no soap could wash from the Hero’s skin.
With the upper half of their body clean, Villain handed off the rag to Hero. A glance passed between the two. Hero would tend to the rest of themselves while Villain fancied themself with another task.
Hero squeaked when they felt fingers along the back of their head and nearly jumped out of the tub altogether. It took Villain’s quick explanation to reassure them. “Your hair is matted,” they said. “If you leave it now, it’ll only get worse.”
They waited a moment, still. Then, in the smallest mumble.
“Okay.”
Despite their earlier shock, it was an effort not to sigh from the feeling of Villain’s hand in their hair. They were careful, gentle in ways they had never been during battle. Hero found their eyes fluttering shut, the soft pressure on their scalp a heavenly feeling. Villain worked diligently to undo every knot. They brushed through each tangle and plucked away stray leaves and mud. Hero was about to protest when Villain had stopped, before catching onto a sweet scent.
The fizzing sensation of shampoo overtook Hero, mind filling with the smell of citrus. They leaned back into Villain’s touch without thinking, humming softly in contentment.
“It’s been a while hasn’t it?”
Hero’s eyes fluttered open, “Hm?”
“Since you’ve been cared for- you’ve melted into every touch.”
That broke Hero from their stupor. They pulled away on instinct and a pink flush made its way across their cheeks. Villain however didn’t appear to care. In fact, they even looked a little disappointed to see the Hero shrink back. “I-” Hero stuttered, “I didn’t mean to-”
“Don’t apologize love.” Villain ran their nails along the Hero’s scalp, “You deserve to be cared for. When I found you-” they broke off. The soft smile on Villain’s face slipped away as their mind was filled with the picture of Hero. Bleeding. Shivering. Nearly dead along the river bank. Despite everything, Villain’s hands curled into fists.
“I’ll never let someone hurt you like that again.”
And again they fell into silence, Villain’s promise revealed and Hero left to contemplate the idea. The hushed pop of soap bubbles filled the space. Hero could feel the suds in their hair. It was nice, clean. Safe.
Deep breath in, Hero leaned back again. They felt Villain’s hand come to support the back of their head and their eyes slipped closed on instinct. Soon they felt the pressure return and with a whisper, they turned to their savior and offered a gentle smile.
“Thank you.”

Whumpee doesn’t really understand what is going on, everything is happening so fast and their head is pounding so bad.
“hey, can you hear me? Whumpee?” A voice calls out their name. Whumpee raises their head.
“i-i... don’t... understand....i-i...” Whumpee rasps out, before a coughing fit interrupts him.
“shh, don't force yourself too much. I'll explain everything later, now I'm here and I just wanna help you, ok?”
Whumpee is in so much pain, it's hard to breathe. They’re so weak, they lean onto Caretaker, drowning in their quiet words and soft movements. A tear escapes Whumpee’s eye. It's been so long since they were treated like this, like a human being.
"Caretaker..... " Whumpee manages to say, with a weak, raspy voice.
“Yeah, that's right, I am Caretaker. I am here and I won't let them hurt you anymore..." Caretaker whispers, hugging Whumpee, caressing their dirty, greasy hair.  Whumpee winces in pain and can't help but cry, the happiness and comfort are too much for them to manage.

Caretaker falling apart over what might’ve happened to Whumpee, but deciding to respect Whumpee’s privacy. They have to stop themselves from prying or asking certain questions, knowing full well that there’s a darker, painful, intimate story behind Whumpee’s condition.
Alternatively, Whumpee’s history is eating away at them, and they’re dying to tell Caretaker everything. They decide to repress themselves for one reason or another. Maybe they’re afraid of disturbing Caretaker. Maybe they’re doubting their own recollection of what happened. Maybe they’ve been conditioned to view vulnerability as weakness.
Either way, there’s something preventing these two people from sharing the whole truth about a painful situation.
