Yoko Ono and Sean Ono Lennon “Give Peace a Chance” This Holiday Season
- Mother/son team donate 50 acetates to charitable organizations
Yoko Ono and Sean Ono Lennon donated 50 limited-edition acetates of “Give Peace a Chance” and “Remember Love” to 50 charities, nonprofits and care organizations.
“Happy Holidays. To raise the spirit of peace and love this December, here is one of only 50 limited-edition acetates that have been hand-cut at Abbey Road,” Sean Ono Lennon said in a note accompanying each record.
“It’s yours – to sell, auction, raise money to help your charity or to fund your Xmas party – to ‘Give Peace a Chance’ and ‘Remember Love.’”
Amnesty International, British Red Cross, British-Ukrainian Aid, Doctors without Borders, International Committee of the Red Cross, Refugees International, Salvation Army, Save the Children, UNICEF and WhyHunger are among the recipients of the remixed versions of the Plastic Ono Band’s 1969 recordings.
Each acetates is numbered and includes Ono’s machine-generated signature. In 2021, Ono and Lennon donated 50 copies of “Happy Xmas (War is Over)” acetates to U.K. music charities and shops to mark the single’s 50th birthday.

Food Deprivation in the United States
Food Deprivation in the United States
Food deprivation in the United States – as well as in the world – is caused by a number of complex socio-economic factors. Unfortunately, the global pandemic and its effects added one more layer of depth to this problem (World Health Organization, 2021). In 2020, around 38 million Americans – more than 11,5 million children included – suffered from food deprivation (WhyHunger, n.d.). This shows…

Harry Chapin with close friend, talk radio host Bill Ayres. In September 1975, the two founded World Hunger Year (WHY, now known as WhyHunger) as a charitable organisation that fosters grassroots campaigning and community action with an aim to providing long term solutions to poverty and hunger. In Bill's words:
"We made a sort of pledge to spend the rest of our lives dealing with hunger and poverty in some form or other. His form of course was doing these wonderful concerts and raising money. Half of all his concerts went to causes, mostly hunger. Then in ’75 we started this organization that we called WHY. I had suggested that because I had been influenced by the great Brazilian educator Paulo Freire, who said, ‘You really need to ask the why questions:’ Why is there poverty, and why is there hunger in a world that can feed itself, and why is there hunger in the United States, the richest country in the world? We figured that would be a great name except when you answered the phone, if you said ‘WHY’ it would sound like an Abbott and Costello routine. We needed an acronym. The first two parts were easy — World Hunger, and then what do you do with the Y? That became Year.
When people asked him what year is world hunger, he’d say, ‘Every year until we end hunger.’"

I love designing album covers and this one is extra special to me because I got to work closely with my brother in law, @renniepincus on this one. Grateful features Rennie along with an army of amazing musical guests, covering Grateful Dead songs on an album where ALL of the proceeds go to whyhunger.org - as for my part, I had an amazing time designing all the ins and outs of the album. You can download the album now, link in @renniepincus bio but if you want to get your hands on the physical album, drop him a DM. . . . . #gratefuldead #indiecreator #albumart #spaghettikiss #gratefuldeadart #whyhunger #skullart #rocknroll #madeinbaltimore #baltimoreartist #baltimoremaker #iambaltimoreart https://www.instagram.com/p/CJvwLXmhkqF/?igshid=1pt46949obnif

MR. TANNER on sale today!
Mr. Tanner runs a dry cleaning shop in Dayton, Ohio, where he spends his days greeting customers with his beautiful baritone voice. Friends and neighbors encourage him to sing professionally instead of cleaning clothes. He eventually takes a chance and travels to New York City to be heard by a concert agent and critics, only to find they aren’t hearing what he’s feeling.
The song “Mr. Tanner” was released in 1973 off Harry Chapin’s Short Stories album. The song was inspired by a mediocre New York Times review about a baritone singer. To read the original New York Times articles from 1971 and 1972 that this story was based on click here and here.
About the Author/Illustrator
Harry Chapin (1942–1981) was an American singer-songwriter best known for his #1 hit "Cat’s in the Cradle."  He was a true storyteller through his songs. He also was a humanitarian who fought to end world hunger and is one of the founders of WhyHunger. www.HarryChapinMusic.com
Bryan Langdo is the illustrator of over thirty books for children, including Salad Pie by Wendy BooydeGraaff. He is also a writer and editor. When he’s not in his art studio with some music playing, he likes to be outdoors with his wife and two children. Visit him at www.BryanLangdo.com. For an in-depth profile about Bryan, click here.
Reviews "Impressively original, wonderfully entertaining, thoroughly 'kid friendly' for children ages 5 to 7, Mr. Tanner is an especially recommended and certain to be an enduringly popular addition to family, elementary school, and community library picture book collections." -Midwest Book Review "...soulful journey of self-discovery." - Foreword Reviews "There’s inspiration in the refrain: “He didn’t know how well he sang. It just made him whole.” - Kirkus Reviews "[Bryan] Langdo (There’s a Cat in Our Class!) portrays Mr. Tanner as a well-dressed brown bear, and his sensitive watercolors draw out the joy Mr. Tanner gets from singing, his shock over the bad review, and its effect on him: after returning home, “he smiled and just said nothing, and he never sang again.” Although closing images of Mr. Tanner singing to himself at his shop temper this outcome somewhat, it’s a somber reminder of the way criticism can get inside an artist’s head." - Publishers Weekly
Endorsements
From Bill Ayres, co-founder of WhyHunger:
Mr. Tanner is one of the late singer/social activist Harry Chapin’s most memorable songs. Bryan Langdo has illustrated the words of the song in a delightful book for children of all ages that focuses on its main message.
I heard Harry’s words and music as I read it and, no, I did not have the music playing, except in my soul.
From Sonny Ochs, Folk DeeJay  and sister of the late Phil Ochs:
Mr. Tanner by Harry Chapin and illustrated by Bryan Langdo is a wonderful book which arrives at a subtle definition of happiness.
It follows a man who loves to sing, is persuaded to go out of his comfort zone to sing in public, then ends up back home still singing. It is a great lesson for children.
From Allan Pepper, co-owner of the legendary music venue The Bottom Line in NYC:
Harry Chapin's songs are little novellas that provide new insights with every repetition. Bryan Langdo has turned "Mr. Tanner", one of Harry's landmark songs, into a beautiful illustrated book. His unique illustrations have captured the heart and soul of Chapin's moving ode to living a complete life in a very simple buttextured way.
"Mr. Tanner" is a great way to introduce your child to one of the great storytellers of the 20th century. While you're at it, at gift time, don't forget those parents and grandparents who came of age listening to Harry's wonderful little stories the first time around.
From Martin Tubridy, the inspiration for the song "Mr. Tanner":
I recently had the honor of receiving an advanced copy of the soon to be released Mr. Tanner children's book published by Ripple Grove Press. The book is a beautiful tribute to the famed song “Mr. Tanner” by Harry Chapin. The book is aimed to be read to young children and a way to speak to them about the feelings and meaning of the story. The illustrations by Bryan Langdo are incredibly beautiful and full of feeling. The book is very special and the illustrations are so touching. It will definitely be a winner and will be supporting a great cause. It is a beautiful way to keep a special person's memory very much alive. Part of the proceeds will be directed to WhyHunger, which is the organization Harry Chapin founded with Bill Ayres to address world hunger.
From Jonathan Chapin:
How do we learn about the world, life, and about understanding ourselves better?  Well, often times whether it's as kids or as adults it's through storybooks and story songs. Ripple Grove Press's book Mr. Tanner, adopted from Harry Chapin's song "Mr. Tanner", creates the opportunity for dialogue between a parent and a child to discuss topics of values, character, believing in yourself, willingness to give things a try, and to talk about whatever else the conversation may lead to. The line from the chorus of the song, "He sang from his heart and he sang from his soul, he did not know how well he sang it just made him whole," is one launching point to explore how a child recognizes what activities they (the parent and the child) are passionate about. What it is that makes each who they are. What it is that they each may share with others.
In essence, both the song and the book tell the story about finding one's voice (no pun intended), to be yourself, and that you should always thoughtfully be willing to try things and not be scared to fail, because after all that's how we learn.  So, enjoy the book and all the life-lessons that it will help you teach your kid!
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book will help support WhyHunger.
WhyHunger is a global non-profit founded in 1975 by the late musician and activist Harry Chapin and radio DJ Bill Ayres. Inspired by Harry’s vision of a world free from hunger and with social justice for all, WhyHunger is building the movement to end hunger and poverty by connecting people to nutritious, affordable food and by supporting grassroots solutions that inspire self-reliance and community empowerment. WhyHunger works to support, resource, and build the capacity of community organizations and social movements that are changing the systems, policies, and institutions that perpetuate hunger and poverty in our world.
They are transforming the collective food system into one that is socially and economically just, nourishes whole communities, cools the planet, and ensures the rights of all people to food, land, water, and sustainable livelihoods. Learn more at whyhunger.org.

Hi I hope you were able to get some money for food or if not will get some soon! If you haven't already I'd really recommend looking to see if there are any food pantries near you. They're usually able to give several weeks worth of food at once. Googling your county or town with food pantry might turn something up. Some are operated out of churches but being religious isn't a requirement of course. WhyHunger has a really good hotline you can call as well for local places that can give u food.
I think you sent this to the wrong person. I reblog peoples' posts when they need food or money but I haven't needed any help myself for a while. Still, good contribution and thank you.

A Beatle, a Phish, a Police and Some Bad Company “Come Together” for WhyHunger
- “Drum Together” features more than 150 musicians, including 100-plus sticks men and women
Coming together for “Drum Together,” Ringo Starr, with a little help from 150 of his friends, raises money - and awareness - for WhyHunger on a Beatles redux like no other.
Running 10 minutes, this jazzy, drums- and percussion-focused fusion of brass, strings, guitars, bass and bash features appearances from Starr; Phish’s Jon Fishman; Police man Stewart Copeland; Simon Kirke of Bad Co. and Free; Yes man Alan White; Red Hot Chili Pepper Chad Smith; Cindy Blackman Santana; Jim Keltner; Vinnie Colaiuta; Kenny Aronoff; Liberty DeVitto; E Street denizen Max Weinberg; Steve Gadd; Pearl Jam’s Matt Cameron and many others in what’s being called “the greatest collection of drummers ever performing on one song.”
And while the too-many-cooks vibe is strong in this kitchen, the mission - “a musical and visual tribute to the power of community and a call to action” - is righteous.
“Funds raised will support WhyHunger’s work to end global hunger, tackle its root causes and invest in grassroots solutions to advance the human right to nutritious food for all,” organizers said in a statement.

What's better than bidding on a signed Taylor Swift guitar? Knowing that the money is for a good cause.
Swift autographed a folklore-themed guitar for WhyHunger's 35th Hungerthon drive, which aims, among the COVID-19 pandemic, to end hunger and advance the human right to nutritious food in the U.S. and around the world.
"COVID-19 has greatly exacerbated food insecurity rates, and the social injustices that have long existed at the root of hunger, from racism to the lack of a living wage. Hunger is a solvable problem, and we urge you to participate in this year's campaign to help tackle the urgent human need for access to nutritious food," said Noreen Springstead, executive director at WhyHunger, in a press statement. "From donating to participating in our virtual Race to Give Thanks to learning and spreading the facts about hunger in America, there are many ways individuals can get involved and give back. We are honored and humbled to kick off Hungerthon 2020, working with dedicated partner organizations and celebrities to become one step closer to ending hunger and ensuring everyone's right to food."
Among other holiday events, the auction runs through December 31 and features experiences and merch signed by Green Day, Billy Joel, Tom Morello, Jon Bon Jovi and more.

I don’t know if you ever saw him live. He far outperformed himself on the stage than he did in the studio. He was bored in the studio. I suggested to him one time that what we needed to do was get about 50 people to all sit on the floor in the studio because he had what he called the “Chapin living room effect.” What that meant was that no matter how big the audience was, he would create the feeling of intimacy. He called it sort of semi-intimacy, so that it was like you being in his living room. I said, ‘Why don’t we do that for recordings?’ He said, ‘That’s a great idea.’ But he never did it.

“He makes dead people tea. It’s very nice tea.”
original image by @ornerine
Attention artists and writers!
Who: This is being organized currently by @kaldurrr and @so-manybees, but this won’t be possible without submissions from you!
What: This isn’t your typical fan zine! While we do want art, mostly what we’re looking for is recipes! In the end, we are putting together a fan-made cookbook as an homage to everyone’s favorite graveyard chef. We want recipes for good ol’ adventuring food – something to warm your bones and your soul, whether you’re deep in the woods or you’ve found respite in a local tavern. The older and more traditional the recipe, the better.
When: Currently we are looking to see how interested the community is in such a project but we are tentatively opening applications on Friday, November 9th.
Where: Please fill out our interest form!
Why: This is intended to be a non-profit zine – all proceeds will be donated to a food related charity such as WhyHunger, Feeding America, Feed My Starving Children, or World Central Kitchen and a decision will be made based on votes collected from the interest poll. We've also put up 826LA in the interest form in solidarity with Critical Role's relationship with the chapter.
Check out our FAQs! We’ll be posting more information as it occurs.
Reblogs are greatly appreciated!
