Hey Liv so I was wondering if you could help me clarify some details about Draco because it always annoy me how my interpretation of Draco clashes with the way he’s portrayed in fics

From his father comment from CoS: “I hope my son will amount to more than a thief or a plunderer, Borgin,” said Mr. Malfoy coldly, and Mr. Borgin said quickly, “No offense, sir, no offense meant —”

“Though if his grades don’t pick up,” said Mr. Malfoy, more coldly still, “that may indeed be all he is fit for —”

I always read this comment as if it was implying that Draco isn’t a particularly excellent student overall. Like to me draco always seemed like that kind of student who’s too busy trying to impress other people and being “popular” to care about grades. Or rather, one of those students who thinks that being studious and book smart would tarnish their reputation as school jocks, which seemed more what he was aiming for

I know that he obviously has to be smart since he managed to repare the cabinet all on his own

But in fics he’s ALWAYS a genious, second only to Hermione, and obsessed with studying and learning new things and tbh I don’t understand what this comes from because to me it always seemed like he was a lot more interested in trying to get attention and being the little shit that he is. Like writing songs about Ron and making stickers for Harry was more important than burying himself in the library.

Also in the train scene in book 6 doesn’t he basically say that his education is far less important than his glamorous death eater career ?

Obviously I’m not complaining about authors writing Draco as being a genius, it’s just that it makes me wonder if sometimes they do it because they feel like they need to give him a “redeeming” quality because if we only focus on his personality and his other qualities he may seem not worthy of being redeemed or being loved by Harry. And to me it’s not the case because if he’s loved and redeemed it should be because of the changes in his heart, not because he’s exceptionally smart.

Sorry for the rant, it’s just something that I could not stop thinking about lately as I stumbled upon another “Draco has an encyclopaedic knowledge about every possible subject ever created in the history of the wirzarding world”

That’s an interesting discussion anon! I’m afraid my knowledge of canon characterization is very limited as I haven’t read the HP books in years. I think it’s fair to assume that, as transformative works, fanfics can also reflect some level of wishful thinking/self-projection and all takes are valid, but it could be interesting to understand where this genius!Draco headcanon comes from, beyond the cabinet repair episode. Since I’m not a writer (or an active reader atm) I’ll let my followers take the lead and share their thoughts on this!

This is going to work as a sneak peak of sorts. I’m working on a new tvd/to fanfic/oc called (This Is My) Roaring Twenties. Myria Mikaelson is an original vampire and she’s Klaus’s wife, they married before Esther turned them into vampires which is why Myria’s also an original. It’s going to take place in the twenties, when Stefan meets Klaus and Rebekah (and now Myria). The final pairing is going to be a KlausxMyriaxStefan triad and I’m actually excited to start writing it.

I’m gonna have Myria answer this questions in modern time though (with a couple of cameos).

1. What is your Favorite Book?

“It might be a cliche but Edgar’s The Raven is still one of my favorite books.” Myria answered, taking a sip of the champagne before giving it to Klaus, who set it on the table besides the couch.

2. Are you more of a talker or a listener? 

“I’m more of a listener, really.” The answer is followed by a snort from Myria’s left, and she turns her head to be met with a smiling Stefan, who does not seem at all phased by the deadly glare the woman threw him. “Have anything to say, Salvatore?”

“No, not at all.” He replies, making a “go on” gesture with his right hand. The smile was still present.

3. What five movies best describe your personality?

”I have no idea.” She shakes her head. “I don’t watch many of those, and the ones I do, I don’t really pay attention to.”

4. What do you look for in a Significant Other?

”As you can see, I don’t seem to have much of a criteria when looking for a partner.” Myria’s face is like stone, with the exception of the right corner of her mouth which is threatening to go up. Klaus’ eyebrows rise in disbelief and Stefan’s brow furrows and both men open their mouths, presumably to defend themselves, but the brunette doesn’t let them. “Loyalty is the main thing, honesty is another thing, though all of us have some lapses. However, we will always go back to each other and that’s what’s really important.”

5. Who in your life (outside of family) inspires you?

”I’d say Marilyn Monroe.” She said with certainty. “She was a strong, brilliant, delightful woman and it’s a shame she died so early and that her legacy has been besmirched by men who were jealous.”

6. What is your Biggest Pet Peeve?

”People putting their noses in things that are none of their business... Doppelgangers tend to do that a lot, in my experience. And it shows how much control I have that they continue to live.” Myria is visibly fired up but she relaxes slightly when Klaus’ arm goes to rest around her shoulders and Stefan’s hand falls in her thigh.

7. Do you agree with your JK Rowling sorting, or do you feel like you belong in a different one?

”JK Rowling sorting?” She turns confused to Stefan, the one who’s more caught up in pop culture. 

”The wirzard houses, Ria.” He tries to jog her memory. “Gryffindor, Slythe-”

”Oh, yes, I remember.” Myria interrupts him, the light bulb above her head turned on. ”Slytherin is the cunning one right?” At Stefan’s nod, she turns back. “Then I am in Slytherin.”

8. Marvel or DC and why?

”What in the bloody hell is that?” She questions before quickly rectifying it. “No, no, I don’t want to know, I don’t care, either is fine. Next question.” Klaus and Stefan exchange amused looks.

9. What is your go to take out order when you’re home alone?

”O negative.” There are a couple seconds of silence before a smile breaks out. “No, I’m joking, AB positive is the best, but pizza is my favorite, there are pizzas of every single flavor in the world, they’re wonderful.”

10. Do you like the transitional Seasons (Spring/ Fall) or the Full-Blown Seasons (Summer/ Winter)?

“Transitional seasons, of course. Although I love winter fashion, I prefer it when it’s not too hot nor too cold.” 

11. What is one thing you try to hide about yourself in a first impression?

”That I’m a vampire, of course. The look of surprise is always delightful.” The smirk in Myria’s face is thoroughly amused. “Apart from that, I really don’t care what others think of me, their opinion is irrelevant.”

12. Where do you feel the most at home/safest to be yourself?

“I don’t really care about places. I’ve had so many houses in the past thousand years but the only things I need to feel at home are my family... especially the man... men that I love.” The smirk dissolved into a smile and three pair of eyes soften at the same time.

When I was younger i felt connected to Carrie Underwood, mainly because we have the same first name, but also because of what she sang about. Now i fell kinda connected to this band called We Three. Harry(30)left the wizarding world after a 2 years unhappy marriage with Ginny.They devorced and he moved to Muggle London

got a Job as Cook at Pavatis Squib Cousin Rohan in his all muggle  indian restaurant:Veeraswarmy at Regent Street. Cooking is a passion  Harry loves, even he hated cooking for the Dursleys. Ron and Hermione visit him everyday after their work and catching upon gossip and life. He has a little nice appartment over the restaurant for years now. One day Rohan sends him to the cash register,because someone wanted to compliment him on his delicious food So Harry puts his apron down ,tells amira the other cook to watch the masala chicken inthe oven and goes through the doubledooors. Harry stops ,shocked and  confused he knits his brows together as he sees a beautiful Draco Malfoy standing, open white blonde long hair to the waist in French trench coat and black slacks, Draco greets Sunil the waiter with a warm smile as if he would come in and go out for granted. Suddenly Draco sees Potter,goes all red in the face,wide eyed.

Blood runs down Dracos nose,as of his lips down his chin and drips on his trembling hands.He drives quieckly with the back o his hand,over the blood.Why must his tendency to nosebleed ,when he gets nervous or really stressed out come to light ,right now? Draco turns ,and storms out of the restaurant to the dark streets,he cant stop crying as he runs How could he just believe that Harry might have heard of his pictures, he put so much effort into it and all his feelings he is now well known Artist, even in the wizarding world. When he finally managed to wrestle with it,apologized to his schoolmates ,first Granger, yeah this was quiet  difficult ,Weasley,Neville ,Luna also Mc Gonagall and Hagrid. not just his repeated most time unanswered letters through the years, Christmas cards and invitations to his art exhibition. He gave Granger a portrait of her own with her reading glasses and a thick book. She smiled and for half an hour sitting in her kitchen drinking tea and  smaltalk. He wonders if Potter knows about the picture,he would love to know he likes it..But he is stil insecure if they and the wirzarding world have  really forgave him. Draco wonders if Potter saw it. Then he gets torn around, Harry holds his arm as he gasps to catch up with Draco. His face pleading —– Let me go scarhead! Let me be!Or i hex your balls off,Potter!

Potter seems to be disturbed and examines Draco’s face, holding a handkerchief out for Draco he takes it,and Potter takes a second one and starts to clean Dracos chin and hands carefully, Harry:Iam sorry ,iam so sorry ,i went to far!he says quietly.“ You look pale, paler than usual, are you sick? Draco:At the times I have little appetite, I sometimes forget to eat. He says softly and tries to avoid Harry’s eyes Please come back to Veerraswarmy I’ll make you my homemade Lassimango and then we can talk by masala chicken, huh, what are you saying?Please > Okay I need probably anyway a drink-back in the restaurant . both go to the back of the restaurant where their more undisturbed, warm candlelight and exotic floral arrangements decorate the round table in the niche, a bit too romantic. Potter now noticed his wet shirt and excuse himself to the  private toilet room ,puts ona  new sweater. Draco smiles. Potter looks really good ,the Bastard must know that, because Harry gives this secret little  smile back to Draco Mabey they could still talk, and it could still be an interesting evening...

I know Creek is a half blood, but I bet he's used the term 'mud-blood' at least once. Either it was to Branch, or he was making fun of Branch and Suki was standing up for him and Creek just yelled at her, or idk but I bet it happened.

The thing with Creek is, he does not want to look bad. He wants to be admired. So odds are, he probably wouldn’t say the term ‘Mud-blood’ out loud for the longest time.

But he was raised by muggles just like Branch was so he too, enters Hogwarts with a rather impressionable mind-set towards the wirzarding world. But he gets sorted into Slytherin, which, we know is not ALL bad but odds are, Creek would have picked up words like mud-blood from older students. While he knew they were seen as bad words, he started using them in his head when considering muggle borns. His own thought on the matter was “Hey, I don’t know too much about magic or Hogwarts or any of this but it could be worse. I could be a mud-blood.” Just a way to inflate his ego really.

But yeah, while he would refrain from saying it, I can definitely see him just losing his patience with either Suki or Branch and just muttering it under his breath. If any other member of the Snack Pack was around to hear this, odds are he would lose his reputation right then and there.
