Following with his keen eyes the trail to the river, and then the river back towards the forest, Aragorn saw a shadow on the distant green, a dark swift-moving blur. He cast himself upon the ground and listened again intently. But Legolas stood beside him, shading his bright elven-eyes with his long slender hand, and he saw not a shadow, nor a blur, but the small figures of horsemen, many horsemen, and the glint of morning on the tips of their spears was like the twinkle of minute stars beyond the edge of mortal sight. Far behind them a dark smoke rose in thin curling threads. There was a silence in the empty fields, arid Gimli could hear the air moving in the grass.
'Riders!' cried Aragorn, springing to his feet.
'Many riders on swift steeds are coming towards us!'
'Yes,' said Legolas, 'there are one hundred and five. Yellow is their hair, and bright are their spears. Their leader is very tall.'
Aragorn smiled. 'Keen are the eyes of the Elves,' he said.
'Nay! The riders are little more than five leagues distant,' said Legolas.
Tumblr media
'Five leagues or one,' said Gimli; 'we cannot escape them in this bare land. Shall we wait for them here or go on our way?'
'We will wait,' said Aragorn. 'I am weary, and our hunt has failed. Or at least others were before us; for these horsemen are riding back down the orc-trail. We may get news from them.'
'Or spears,' said Gimli.
'There are three empty saddles, but I see no hobbits,' said Legolas.
'I did not say that we should hear good news,' said Aragorn. 'But evil or good we will await it here.'
Tumblr media
The three companions now left the hill-top, where they might be an easy mark against the pale sky, and they walked slowly down the northward slope. A little above the hill's foot they halted, and wrapping their cloaks about them, they sat huddled together upon the faded grass. The time passed slowly and heavily. The wind was thin and searching. Gimli was uneasy.
'What do you know of these horsemen, Aragorn?' he said. 'Do we sit here waiting for sudden death?'
'I have been among them,' answered Aragorn. 'They are proud and wilful, but they are true-hearted, generous in thought and deed; bold but not cruel; wise but unlearned, writing no books but singing many songs, after the manner of the children of Men before the Dark Years. But I do not know what has happened here of late, nor in what mind the Rohirrim may now be between the traitor Saruman and the threat of Sauron. They have long been the friends of the people of Gondor, though they are not akin to them. It was in forgotten years long ago that Eorl the Young brought them out of the North, and their kinship is rather with the Bardings of Dale, and with the Beornings of the Wood, among whom may still be seen many men tall and fair, as are the Riders of Rohan. At least they will not love the Orcs.'
Tumblr media
'But Gandalf spoke of a rumour that they pay tribute to Mordor ' said Gimli.
'I believe it no more than did Boromir,' answered Aragorn.
'You will soon learn the truth,' said Legolas. 'Already they approach.'
At length even Gimli could hear the distant beat of galloping hoofs. The horsemen, following the trail, had turned from the river, and were drawing near the downs. They were riding like the wind.
Now the cries of clear strong voices came ringing over the fields. Suddenly they swept up with a noise like thunder, and the foremost horseman swerved, passing by the foot of the hill, and leading the host back southward along the western skirts of the downs. After him they rode: a long line of mail-clad men. swift, shining, fell and fair to look upon.
Tumblr media
Their horses were of great stature, strong and clean-limbed; their grey coats glistened, their long tails flowed in the wind, their manes were braided on their proud necks. The Men that rode them matched them well: tall and long-limbed; their hair, flaxen-pale, flowed under their light helms, and streamed in long braids behind them; their faces were stern and keen. In their hands were tall spears of ash, painted shields were slung at their backs, long swords were at their belts, their burnished skirts of mail hung down upon their knees.
In pairs they galloped by, and though every now and then one rose in his stirrups and gazed ahead and to either side, they appeared not to perceive the three strangers sitting silently and watching them. The host had almost passed when suddenly Aragorn stood up, and called in a loud voice:
Tumblr media
'What news from the North, Riders of Rohan?'
With astonishing speed and skill they checked their steeds, wheeled, and came charging round.

Disney Horses
Disney has never tried doing a franchise focused on their equine characters, and I am disappointed. So here is a partial compilation of Disney horses--namely the ones I think would be the most marketable--just in case Disney should ever change their mind on that point and wants a reference guide to which horses they should include in the line.
Major (Cinderella, 1950)
Tumblr media
Major is a gray stallion who is temporarily transformed into a coachman for Cinderella's night at the ball.
Samson (Sleeping Beauty, 1959)
Tumblr media
Samson is a gray stallion belonging to Prince Phillip. He is shown to be fast and fearless, and he hates distractions and detours.
Captain (101 Dalmatians, 1961)
Tumblr media
Captain is a gray draft stallion who lives in the English countryside. He is instrumental in aiding in the rescue of Pongo and Perdita's puppies, and helps provide them with shelter and protection during their trek back to London.
Frou Frou (Aristocats, 1970)
Tumblr media
Frou Frou is a flaxen chestnut light draft mare belonging to Madame Adelaide Bonfamille of Paris, France. She is a close friend of Duchess and her kittens. She is the only mare to be prominently featured in a Disney animated feature film with a specific storyline. Fantasia (1940) features a pegasus mare in one of its sequences (the mother of Peter Pegasus).
Philippe (Beauty and the Beast, 1991)
Tumblr media
Philippe is a flaxen chestnut Belgian draft stallion who belongs to Maurice and Belle. He is very cautious and skittish, but bravely returns with Belle to the Beast's castle to find her father.
Achilles (The Hunchback of Notre Dame, 1996)
Tumblr media
Achilles is a gray warhorse who belongs to Captain Phoebus. He is trained to respond to commands the same way a dog would, and even knows how to sit and heel. He appears to get along with Frollo's Friesian stallion Snowball, despite their owners being on opposites sides.
Pegasus (Hercules, 1997)
Tumblr media
Pegasus is a pegasus stallion belonging to Hercules. He is white with a blue mane and tail. Pegasus isn't the most intelligent horse, but he's very loyal and courageous.
Khan (Mulan, 1998)
Tumblr media
Khan is Mulan's faithful black stallion. He carries her into battle against the Huns.
Bullseye (Toy Story 2, 1999)
Tumblr media
Bullseye is a chestnut stallion who serves as Woody's loyal steed in the children's show that spawned the toy line Woody is part of. In the Toy Story films, Bullseye is Jessie's closest friend and ally.
Buck (Home on the Range, 2004)
Tumblr media
Buck is a bay stallion belonging to Sheriff Brown. He is incredibly egotistical and admires the bounty hunter Rico until he learns Rico is working for the notorious Alameda Slim.
Maximus (Tangled, 2010)
Tumblr media
Maximus is a light silver Andalusian stallion who loyally serves the Captain of the Guard, acting as both his mount and his right hand man. He is intelligent, brave and fiercely patriotic. He dedicates his life to protecting Princess Rapunzel on all her adventures.
Angus (Brave, 2012)
Tumblr media
Angus is a black Shire stallion who serves as Merida's mount and best friend. He has good judgment and hates having to carry Merida into danger, but will do so if the cause is just.
Sitron (Frozen, 2013)
Tumblr media
Sitron is a brunblakk (brown dun) fjord stallion who belongs to Prince Hans of the Southern Isles. Despite his owner's sinister nature, Sitron is a polite, friendly horse with fast reflexes and an instinct to protect.
Fidella (Tangled the Series, 2017)
Tumblr media
Fidella is a bay draft mare who belongs to Cassandra. She is fast, strong and brave, and Maximus develops a crush on her. Fidella does not come from a feature film, but this list desperately needed another mare.
The Nokk (Frozen II, 2019)
Tumblr media
The Nokk is a Scandinavian water spirit tamed by Elsa. It serves as her mount. While it is Elsa's friend and allows her to ride it, it is still very wild and will drown trespassers on the Dark Sea.

The Princess Royal’s horses at Gatcombe: ‘They have to do something useful’
By Kate Green | Published 2 August 2020
HRH The Princess Royal has been involved with horses throughout her life. Kate Green went to Gatcombe Park to speak to her about the steeds which she keeps at her home estate today.
The Princess Royal’s name almost inevitably conjures up images of animals. Her glittering equestrian career — which includes a European championship individual gold medal as well as an Olympic appearance — is world famous, but The Princess pour her energies into many more creatures. Some 30 of her 200-plus charitable patronages relate to animals, and in this week’s Country Life — which The Princess guest edited — you can read about the sheep, pigs, chickens and cattle that she keeps on her estate, Gatcombe Park.
Kate Green’s article also — naturally — includes a section on the horses of Gatcombe, which you can read below.
There has been a new arrival — a little chestnut Thoroughbred colt foal, Reel Fashion, by jumping sire Schiaparelli out of Gatcombe mare Fiddle Faddle.

The Princess’s equestrian career is forever synonymous with eventing — she won the European title in 1971, a clutch of medals and was a member of the British team at the Montreal Olympic Games in 1976 — but she also rode winners on the Flat and over jumps as an amateur jockey and her horse-breeding interests centre around the National Hunt world. ‘They have to do something useful,’ she remarks.

There are plenty of event horses around, too: The Princess’s daughter, Zara Tindall, herself a former European champion and a world and Olympic medallist, has hers at nearby Aston Farm and Tom McEwen, who, if things were normal, might reasonably have expected to be at the Tokyo Olympics right now, is the latest in a long line of fine horsemen to make Gatcombe their eventing base.

Amid a field of bay Thoroughbred fillies, Winnie, the Suffolk mare, cuts an imposing, solid presence. She’s also friendly — and curious, enthusiastically nibbling the windscreen wipers.
‘I bought her grandmother from the Hollesley Bay Colony Stud in Suffolk when they sold up,’ explains The Princess, who is patron of the Suffolk Horse Society, founded in 1877.

These striking heavy horses, with their rich chestnut coats and paler, flaxen or silver manes and tails, were bred to work the clay soil of East Anglia, but the difficulty of finding a role for them outside ploughing and timber hauling means that they are classified as ‘critical’ on the RBST watchlist.
One potential outlet is as steady, careful mounts for Riding for the Disabled, another of The Princess’s long-time patronages. ‘Lockdown has been very hard on families with disabled children,’ she points out. ‘The number of parents who say their children’s behaviour has improved thanks to riding is striking.’

hey i’m from the “they made stallion quartermane real” post and i saw u know a lot about horses
would you be willing to share more horse facts? 👀
Oh geez, thank you haha! Admittedly, I wouldn’t say I know much about horses, I just love to google animal facts, always try and find real animals to directly base anthro characters on (so I do a lot of that for wizard guys, picking specific species / breeds ), and remember a bit from the ag classes I took in high school. Horse people feel free to correct me but take what I’m saying here with a grain of salt. I’m trying to back up everything I’m saying with some cursory google searches but I am far from a horse expert 😭
Because Stallion was brought up I guess I can talk about anything I mildly know / hc regarding him? For example I went with the Irish Cob for my personal hc for him (these guys have 1000 names. You might have heard them called the Galineers Cob, the tinker horse, or about 5 other names all of which have slurs for Romani peoples in them l, but seem to be what they’re most commonly known as. I tend to go for Irish cob)
They’re a draft breed from the Great Britain and Ireland, and while wizzy doesn’t always fully 1:1 where their anthros are from, it’s a bonus for me. (Soley off of physical descriptions, he could be a Suffolk punch as well … hmm)
I say he’s based on a draft breed, which you can tell from the leg feathering he has, which from my understanding whole all horses have some, the really prominent leg feathers are a trait characteristic of draft breeds. (Also I just personally really prefer draft breeds myself, I like how big and heavyset they are.) From what I can gather, this is because the gene that causes them to grow so prominently is tied to bone density, and draft horses bred for strength to pull plows and carriages have much thicker bones than lighter horse breeds that have been bred more for speed.
Irish Cobs are characteristically hairier than other breeds, which is why they’re known to grow those mustaches. (Googles telling me it’s mainly because of how hairy they are, but they also might help add added sensation to their lips to help them browse for food) The mustache and beard really made me go yeah that’s the stupid horse for me, plus they come in the coloration with blonde-whitish manes and tails and a reddish body color, called flaxen chestnut from what I can find (though maybe its closer to some golden palominos? I don’t know)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nothing else particular interesting is coming to mind unfortunately. Stallions weird boots he wears kind of resemble certain types of boots made for actual horses? I’m finding conflicting reports on what these are used for. Some places saying tendon support, others saying there’s nothing to support that, and they’re used to correct gait abnormalities. Either way. Stallion do you have bad ankles. It’s ok you can tell me.
(Also stallion has a boot tread texture on the bottom of his hooves, but I think this is stupid so I ignore it. Especially because the snow shoes we see in madness mountain have horse shoes attached to them, what’s the truth kingsisle?!? But I think it’s a funny detail to point out anyway.)
I googled fun horse facts to try to find anything else I could offer, and one of these fact Infographics said “baby horses drink milk” which is hysterical to me to point out as a fact.

The implication that the horsemen belong to the horses instead of the other way around because 1) the horses were described first and 2) the men are described as looking like their horses - as opposed to the horses being described as looking like their riders.

The Riders of Rohan - by Turner Mohan "Their horses were of great stature, strong and clean-limbed; their grey coats glistened, their long tails flowed in the wind, their manes were braided on their proud necks. The Men that rode them matched them well: tall and long-limbed; their hair, flaxen-pale, flowed under their light helms, and streamed in long braids behind them; their faces were stern and keen. In their hands were tall spears of ash, painted shields were slung at their backs, long swords were at their belts, their burnished skirts of mail hung down upon their knees."
---The Two Towers, chapter 2
My image of the moment when Aragorn Legolas and Gimli find themselves encircled by the Riders of Rohan has stuck in my head, more or less unchanged, since I first read TTT, I'd always wanted to see it rendered as a painting. What I'd hoped to capture here (and only partially succeeded, in my estimation) was a feel for both the land and people of Rohan, and for the moment itself; the tension between the rushing horses and the stable trio, like the calm eye in a spiraling storm, the power and motion of that foremost horse, the endless flat plain and vast, vaulted sky of the riddermark.

"You sure you don't want to ride at all?" Artemis teased Troy gently as he patted the palomino pony with a nervous, outstretched arm.
"Nah, I mean, as a vegan I'm a bit iffy on horseback riding in general, and also I'm sort of big. I'm afraid I'll hurt it."
"Really? Cuz it looks like you're sort of afraid it's going to hurt you."
"Well, it DOES have sledgehammers for feet and a huge mouth with huge teeth. I didn't know you even liked horses."
"Well, it's been a while, but I used to ride competetively in high school. I'm lucky I still mostly fit into my breeches."
"Yeah the riding pants look like a bit of a tight fit. I don't really think I can rock that look." He mumbled to himself as he turned away. "Strauss will probably appreciate it though."
"What was that?"
"Oh, I was just wondering where Strauss got to. You left him without a chaperone? Ursula is gonna be pissed."
"He's busy grooming his horse. It's been over a hundred years since he's been riding so I figured he can have some time to get back into the swing of it. He looked like he was having a moment. I left him to it." She shrugged.
"You two gonna be ok out there on your own?"
"Well, I'm not riding outside of the arena where I can see. Strauss can hit the trail if he wants. Auntie won't like it, but I don't think he'll take off. He likes horses, and I don't think he'd do anything to hurt one on purpose, like leave it alone in the dark instead of bringing it back to the stable. Don't tell her I let him do it though."
"Hey, I'm not blabbing."
As they chatted, a tell-tale sound of hooves on the concrete stable floors approached. Strauss led his own rented horse behind him, which he had groomed and fully tacked, and even took the time to put a plait in its mane. It was larger than the palomino pony, the woman who owned the barn told him the horses' name was "Bernadino" and that he was a breed called a 'Rocky Mountain.' Strauss was unfamiliar with the breed, but its deep brown dappled coat and flaxen mane and tail cut a fine figure. He had decided it was an agreeable breed, even if it were one Americans had made up.
"Herr Cunningham. A horse is a mirror. If you are afraid, you will make the horse afraid." Strauss teased his nervous friend.
"Yeah yeah. I'm going to stay on the ground where it's safe. You can ride the stick legged death beasts if you want. I'm not that crazy."
Strauss let out a snorting half chuckle at him. "Artemis. Are you ready to get moving?"
"Sure, I was going to stick to the arena where the lights are on. Did you want to head outside at all?"
"Yes. I think I will take a lap or two around the grounds and re-join you. Is that agreeable?"
"Sure. Don't get lost. If I have to go hunt you down auntie will never forgive me for letting you out."
"Never fear. I will not be long. Just long enough to put the horse through some paces."
"Alright. Have fun now." She waved him off and went to climb into the saddle of the smaller pony. Strauss flushed and looked away. She looked quite a bit different in the form fitting breeches than she did in her usual long skirts. He cleared his throat and climbled into his own saddle and set out without another word.
Bernadino snorted and tossed his head as they made it out into the dark of the acreage. "Quiet, you." Strauss chided. More to himself than the horse. "We mustn't get too wound up. It is uncouth." Perhaps, in the absence of a cold shower, a cold evening in late fall would bring him back to reality. The horse was a fine enough animal. The saddle, though... ugly thing, and uncomfortable. Heavy. "Western style" was what they had called it. He didn't see the appeal, but he was determined to enjoy himself.
They set off at a brisk trot. It was difficult to post at a trot, at first, but Strauss soon found his rythm. It was a patient and well broken lesson horse, difficult to mess up on too much. He let the animal have its head and soon they had picked up speed to a gentle canter.
The horse no doubt knew the trail very well. He didn't even really need to steer. He rested the reins and left them loose. It was an easy ride. Relaxing. Until it wasn't.
The horse stopped. It didn't spook or bolt, but rather ground to an abrupt halt that nearly sent Strauss over its head and painfully sent him into the saddle horn. He grunted in annoyance and gave the horse a tap with his heel. It stood stock still. He tapped it again.
This time it took off, but perpendicular to the trail, and into the treeline. He grabbed the reins and tried to pull back, or to the side, but the animal moved like a train on a track until finally, it stopped again.
This time he was ready for it and braced for the halt. He carefully dismounted, still sore, and stood at the animal's left side. It stared, statue-like, into space, even as he moved his hand near its eye to get it to react.
"Neat trick huh?"
He whirled around to face the voice. A smiling woman was walking, casually, out of the treeline and towards the rider. She was young, probably a bit younger than Artemis, and dressed in a black hoodie and dark jeans. Long dark hair framed her face in waves. She did not appear to be one of the stable hands, or at least, she didn't smell like it.
"What do you mean, trick? Who are you?"
"Come on, Luther, you know how it works. Can I call you Luther? Anyway, you know the trick already. You can do it too, you'd just be better at it if you actually ate something."
He tilted his head in confusion. The mystery was slowly unraveling- while he could hear the heavy and powerful heart of the horse beating in its chest, the heart of the newcomer, like his own, was silent.
"I see. Vampire, then. Like me."
"They told me you were smart." She winked. "But I'm not really quite like you. I'm better."
"You shouldn't take control of a horse from the rider like that. You could injure someone easily. You could have hurt the horse. And you sent me crotch first into the saddle horn, thank you." He frowned, showing his teeth in warning.
"It's not really the horse you need to worry about. You're the one that's in trouble, but not from me."
"You didn't answer my question. Who are you?"
"I'll tell you but I need you to promise me you won't tell anyone else my name."
"Why the Hell would I promise you anything?"
"Because, like I said. I'm like you, but better. One of the ways I'm better is I'm stronger than you, and if you blow my cover I'll pull out your heart." She smiled brightly, showing off a set of perfectly straight, white teeth in an even pointy row, not unlike a shark. "Nothing personal. Just a safety precaution." She smugly polished her claws against her black coat.
"The other way is that I know a lot of things you don't, and if you're a little bit less of an asshole, I'll enlighten you. Also, I currently have control of your horse. If you want it back you should play along."
Strauss glowered at her with his hands in fists. "Fine. I will not repeat your name. Not yet, anyway. That is as good as you get."
"Works for me." She shrugged. As if on cue, the horse let out a panicked snort and began backing away from the pair with the whites of its eyes showing. It trotted off back towards the barn with its ears pinned. Strauss frowned as it went.
"You scared him."
"You know, lots of vampires have an affinity for horses. We're more alike than you think. For one, horses have excellent night vision. He can see as well as we can out here. There's another interesting thing we have in common though."
"What's that?"
"I'm not going to tell you. You can read about it yourself in the library."
"Did you abscond with my horse to recommend me a book on tape?"
"Not the ordinary library you dunce." She snapped. "The Van Helsing library. You've seen it by now, right? Look for the natural history volume by the Hierophant. You'll learn a lot, and as a doctor, I think you'd find it very interesting."
"How is it you know I am a doctor? How is it you know me?"
"It's amazing the kind of shit you can learn in the local library, doc." She smirked. "When you're done with the Hierophant, try looking up your own name. You'll be in records, sorted by last name. When you're done with that, look up Sylvain Pietra."
"Sylvain Pietra?" He repeated back to her. "I suppose that's you."
"Yes, and don't repeat my name again. Not out loud. I don't know if you're bugged or whatever the Hell Ursula has stuck all over you."
"Why is this secrecy so important to you?"
"Vampires live and die on secrecy, right? Why do you think I might not want the Van Helsings to know I'm in town?"
"How is it you know so much? Were you hunted by them? Held prisoner?"
"I suggest, Mr. Strauss, that you do a bit of reading." She stepped away off the trail again. "I think that you should read, get the facts as they are from a neutral standpoint, and make your own decisions about how you feel, before asking me or anyone else any questions. Fair?"
He stared her down with a flat expression. "May I ask you, why you have come to me?"
"Well, mostly I hate seeing a good mind go to waste. You've been living under a literal rock for a long time, buddy. You're more than a little desperate, naive, easy to manipulate. I just want to make sure you're making informed choices. That's all."
"Ah, so I am being followed by a stalker out of the goodness of her heart."
"You've already been kidnapped and survived a murder attempt. What's a stalker?" She gave him a crooked smile and an exaggerated shrug. "Just humor me. Read first, then you can tell your little scientist buddy all about tonight. It'll be better that way, you'll get more honest answers. I promise not to show up at your door whatever you do."
"Damn right you won't." He snarled. "If you bother any of my friends we will have a demonstration to see if you're as strong as you brag about, Frau Pietra."
"Ha! you called me Frau? Your accent is SO cute. No wonder you're the favorite. Goodnight Luther. See you soon." She backed away further and further, till only the green glint of her eyes was visible, and then that disappeared as well. Strauss let out a deep, shuddering sigh. His hands were shaking- he hadn't realized how worked up he actually was, how afraid he actually was. No doubt Frau Pietra would have bested him, if she could take the reins from him at that distance.
He made his way back up the trail to find the horse at the barn door, pawing to go in. He collected the reins and let it inside to the arena. Artemis was cheerfully trotting in a wide circle. She pulled alongside the fence to greet him.
"Oh hey Strauss. How was your ride? Therapeutic I hope?"
"It was, ah. Illuminating." He forced a smile. "I think the remainder of my ride should be spent indoors in the light."
"Oh, don't tell me a vampire is scared of the dark?"
Scared of being kept in the dark, more like. "Something like that."

This is unrelated to anything and very late but thinking about horses in relation to CR, it is HILARIOUS how little the cast knows about horses, especially Laura since she’s playing a horse girl. It’s so fucking funny. Off the top of my head:
1. They seem to think stallions are a breed. A stallion is an uncastrated male horse.
2. I may be misremembering point one and if I am, then they Definitely think mustangs are male horses. Mustangs are a breed.
3. Tawny is not a horse color and I cannot imagine what color they’re imagining in their heads, I am SO curious
4. They called one horse a chestnut and then described a different horse that is definitely also a chestnut but they didn’t call it that. So what do they think chestnut is??
5. The idea that a black horse is the most expensive horse just based on its color. And that giving it a white marking would make it cheaper. Incredible
6. I’m fairly certain they described a horse as having a blond mane and tail (the term is flaxen or silver depending on the base color of the horse)

So I'm a ho for the equestrian club. And was thinking about hc and aus for it.
Riddle-
Tumblr media
I imagine Riddle and Vorpal actually a really good pair. Riddle is observant and treats his mare with extra care. Personally I think Vorpal is probably extremely calm until she gets into an area with jumps and then becomes very hyper and ready to go. As it's in the cannon that Vorpal is fast, I think this is probably the only in jumps and hard ground racing. She isn't a horse that is trained in a whole bunch of different disciplines and is rather a master of one. (Plus I feel like this fits Riddles personality better than him doing everything).
Silver-
Tumblr media
Silver is a calm person so I think he'd have a calm horse. Likely a trail rider and generally uses western style tack since it's softer and more cushioned.
I think he'd have a mare who is probably know for being bossy and such but for some reason is super calm and relaxed with him. Silver is probably the one that's more "in the herd" then the rest of the club just because he could fall asleep in a pasture with herd and they'll stay near him to "protect" him from dangers. Anyways I think she'd be a palomino with an extremely long mane and tail (likely a halflinger breed). Her main and tail generally braided with some flowers in it. Some names idea would be Merry (Merryweather), Leah, or Briar. My favorite being Briar.
Sebek-
Tumblr media
Sebek is the person I thought the most about. Due to his yelling many would think the horses hate him and most do. Including his own mount, who never sees eye to eye with the half-fae. Legit first few weeks sebek would be bucked off.
His mount being an extremely blocky grey dapple geldling. Who is a bit of a pocket puppy just following around people and loves affection. But with Sebek, he's grumpy and refuses to do things for a while. The only name idea is Max or a variant ie Maxwell, Maximilian, etc.
When (not if cause if isn't in Sebek's vocab.) the pair finally are getting somewhere they do cross country with weapons like archery or jousting. Max is probably the closest thing to a war horse that NRC can get without being a war horse.
Here's also random honorable mentions for equestrian club horses: Brom (big black stallion), Ivory (white mare), Thunderbolt "Bolt" (flaxen chestnut gelding), and Daisy (light bay mare). <- these were considered for the main trio (well Silver and Sebek) before scrapped due to not really having much behind them other than the standard black horse bad, white horse good.

The little red man is now a little chocolate man with by far the most dramatic flaxen I’ve ever seen up close. His mane is WHITE. His tail has lil CORKSCREWS.
Kestrel is out playing nanny to him and Jaeger these days. She tolerates the situation bc they’re just about the only horses on property she can boss around.

Flaxen Chestnut Pangaré
Eliminated - Round 1
Description: Flaxen chestnut may be seen as the silver of chestnuts despite not being caused by the silver gene. Flaxen causes the mane and tail of the horse to lighten, sometimes so little that it's impossible to see with the naked eye, and in some cases it is so bright that it looks white. Flaxen chestnuts are also commonly mistaken for palomino however unlike palomino flaxen does not cause the coat of the horse to lighten. Pangaré, sometimes also known as mealy, are light points that affect the underside of the body such as the belly, throat, chest, behind the elbows, in front of the stifle, and upon the buttocks, causing the coat to brighten. Pangaré also takes effect around the muzzle and eyes but does not change the color of the eyes or skin.
Genetics: See Flaxen Chestnut for Flaxen and Chestnut genetics. Pangaré just like flaxen only affects red pigment and therefore does not show on black horses, tho unlike flaxen the genetics of pangaré is as of now completely unknown.

Éomer Headcanons
Not a headcanon, but throwing this into Éomer's headcanon tag for a detailed description of appearances of the Rohirrim, their armor, and their weapons.
Specific details and themes I draw heavily upon are (as applied to Éomer):
the duality of Éomer looking fell and fair (both deadly/fierce and beautiful)
the stern and keen face (facial descriptions of seriousness/strictness/severity and sharpness)
physical traits include: tall (Éomer is the tallest at 6′6″ and more can be read here), long arms / legs, long, flaxen blonde hair in multiple braids
clear and strong voice (both in speech and song)
armor includes: chainmail (long and down to the knee), metal helm with flaxen horse tail flowing from top, plate armor with leather details on top (taken from films and includes: vambrances, pauldrons, and cuirass)
weapons include: spears, painted wooden shields, and swords (Éomer's sword is Gúthwinë)
“Now the cries of clear strong voices came ringing over the fields. Suddenly they swept up with a noise like thunder, and the foremost horseman swerved, passing by the foot of the hill, and leading the host back southward along the western skirts of the downs. After him they rode: a long line of mail-clad men, swift, shining, fell and fair to look upon.
Their horses were of great stature, strong and clean-limbed; their grey coats glistened, their long tails flowed in the wind, their manes were braided on their proud necks. The Men that rode them matched them well: tall and long-limbed; their hair, flaxen-pale, flowed under their light helms and streamed in long braids behind them; their faces were stern and keen. In their hands were tall spears of ash, painted shields were slung at their backs, long swords were at their belts, their burnished shirts of mail hung down upon their knees.” The Two Towers
