“X Lands” by XTU Architects,
French design firm XTU Architects created a concept turning offshore oil rigs into alternative housing.
As of 2018, there were 1,172 offshore oil rigs around the world.
The concepts imagines a future in which the world is no longer dependent on oil, so the structures can be repurposed.
Designers experimented with different ideas, including bubble homes and windmills.

Architects : Anouk Legendre & Nicola Desmaziere " Through several buildings, they have built up a refined language, precise, which is expressed by serene and light volumes, placed frankly and therefore withhold a unique force of impact. A spirit of «minimalism» has been evoked in their consideration, but it would be, without doubt, more true to see it as, shapes poetically implied in their volumes with the fullness of their materials. The energy put in their constructions, the rational use of the construction resources, robust details, frank color scheme giving a balance between blocks and large spaces, show that all entities are treated very distinctly. The aptness and the refusal of ostentation represents a very demanding patience and research. The main lines of their buildings contain sobriety providing from strong images thoroughly settled, images which appear from the observations of powerful sites." Modelling life
as touched upon before - ‘Architects are simulating the evolutionary growth system of living things to develop a bio computational architecture. Manipulating natural phenomena, together with using digital manufacturing techniques, produce a veritable meta ecology. Micro-organisms transform themselves into architectural media and building materials. Architects create new composites made from both living and synthetic materials, such as the HORTUS_XL| Astaxanthin.g cyber-garden by EcoLogicStudio, and the bio-receptive panels of Marcos Cruz [Bio-ID, UCL], which promote the growth of micro-organisms, mosses and lichens, and are used in architecture and urban infrastructure. XTU architects are developing bio-facades from micro-algae cultures, with the aim of setting up new architectural ecosystems’ (Centre du Pompidou, 2019).

XTU inserts skyscrapers along weaving country roads to imagine a linear city
the ribbon city by XTU architects is a model of linear city development inspired by the shape of the first villages that were built along traffic routes. the series of visualizations takes leave from our contemporary notion of how cities and metropolises are planned. rather than being grouped together in dense urban centers, the towering structures are instead inserted along weaving country roads.
