Really love your art ❤️ the wings you draw looks amazing 👏 how does one draw them? 👀 do you use any references?
Oh my god, this ask is making the circle full fr. ;; Thank you SO MUCH, Anon!! I've had an enormous wing kink most of my life, but scared of drawing and avoiding them for uh.......... most of my life lol. So reading this means A LOT. TLDR - yes, use refs of all sorts of birds! use gradients! don't overdoit with brushstrokes! wings are paperthin!
In 2021 I said fck it and-- asked my partner, @lesoldatmort, who's a wing-master to teach me how to wings. And the answer was simple - use refs. I did! And it looked better than before. But. Uh.
Most of my wings looked like-- pillow sheets? Or. Pillows. Blankets. Puffy and thick. (Rafe from December, 2020)
Tumblr media
So the biggest trouble for me personally (and for my partner, who was trying to knock it in my thick skull), was to get the wings as thin as possible. And use refs. And draw a lot of wings.
The biggest and best advice I got from my man, was to think of wings as of paper. Flat and thin. And use gradients for the sections instead of too many brushstrokes for each feather. Actually, save on the brushstrokes where you can.
January 2022 this was the best I could do. And that's after a LOT of interference from my partner, who kept nagging me to get rid of brushstrokes and add. more. gradients.
Tumblr media
In June I decided I'm cracking the case. Gave up on trying to paint too much, because I prefer lineart 95% of the time anyway and drew the Howl piece. Still too many brushstrokes, but I used vulture photos as a reference for this one. Adoration is from this time as well. Used a pinned down bald eagle as a ref for Zack's wing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In summer, I did some more random studies, kept looking at wings very closely. Looked at other artists drawing them. In September I was lucky enough to get cmed to draw safer Sephiroth. And that was probably the final moment I gave up on too many details and brushes and started stylizing the hell out of it. And using gradients. And lasso tool. As my partner's been telling me for almost two years at that point. Thin. Finally.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then I just kept going. Simplifying the hell out of them............
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And here we are. I have a problem. It's called a wink kink. And I'm loving it. <3
A few months ago, due to a gender crisis, lol, I even started using the name "Alas" along with Alassa. Which supposedly means "wing" in latin.
So... Thank you for coming to my ted talk and personal vent and rant. Sorry this got so long! However, seeing somebody asking me specifically about wings in my art... feels like reaching a finish line after years of whining. Thank you so much! ;; <3

hi 👋 you can call me diez or chisi
i am from spain and i like to draw lesbians. this is my main blog, if you're only here for my art and not for my reblogs you can follow my art-only blog
FAQ under the cut!
what software and brushes do you use?
i work on ibisPaint X and Krita on a Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. i use a lot of different brushes for lineart but mostly these ones:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
are your commissions open?
no, but thank you for your interest!
will you someday sell your art through an online shop / convention?
no, probably never,,
can i repost your art / use it for edits?
i don't encourage it, but i don't mind. asking for permission and linking back to any of my social media would be appreciated too ♡ just don't use it for commercial purposes (sell merch, use as streaming layouts, etc)
how do you do X part of your drawing?
i recommend checking my speedpaints if you're curious, the name of the videos is the day i finished that drawing in YYMMDD format (as in, year-month-day). i also made a tag for my art thoughts, but if you still have a question feel free to send me an ask and i'll try my best to explain it
where did you learn anatomy?
i used to watch a lot of proko and sycra videos (on youtube), and also do gesture/figure drawings from photo references and k-pop dance practice videos
when / why did you start drawing?
i started taking it seriously when i was 15. seeing lesbian fanart was what caused my gay awakening and i felt like there wasn't enough of it, so i decided to get better
do you do traditional art?
i kind of dislike it. i have filled over 1000 A4 sheets and 7 sketchbooks over the years, but it's all quick doodles to practise or warm up. when i bought a tablet i could carry around i stopped drawing traditionally as often, but i still find myself drawing in my sketchbook from time to time when i want to sketch midlessly or get better at something.
do you draw nsfw art?
very rarely, but i only show it to my friends. i do consume a lot of nsfw content tho, just not in public 👍
how do you keep yourself motivated?
a combination of drawing only what i like and a strong desire of seeing more lesbian art. that's why i mostly make fanart and almost never participate in art trades or make art gifts. i also don't want to make a career out of drawing
have you gone to art school?
i'm currently doing a degree in design at college, but it has almost no correlation with the kind of art i share online. before that i never studied art academically
are you seriously a furry?
yes
are you seriously a communist?
i will always stand by the workers of the world and oppose capitalism on its fundamentals. you can call me a communist, socialist, leftist– i don't mind, i'm not informed enough to stick to one label
are you an anti or a pro shipper?
if someone seriously asks me this again i will go to their house and kill them
are you aware that you follow someone who did something problematic?
in most cases i am probably aware and it isn't that deep for me to unfollow them (please stop caring i don't know who you are)
do you have any ocs?
plenty! but i don't like to talk about them
can i be your friend / talk regularly with you?
i don't like to talk to strangers, but if i'm following you feel free to interact with me at any time~
what's the name of your cat?
yonyon ! she's a female cat but i treat her by any and all gendered terms
Tumblr media Tumblr media
why have you disabled your DMs, story replies and sometimes comments?
because people in fandoms have no shame. i don't want to read weird comments, block overly friendly DMs or watch strangers have a public debate about my moral standards. i'm very thankful towards all of you who love my art tho, even if i can't read all of your positive thoughts!! also, there are plenty of ways to contact me, they're just not in plain sight 💋

Would you be able to talk through your coloring process? I don’t know how to describe it but I really like how you color in character portraits
Thank you! YEs. It's actually extremely simple, this kind of coloring will take about 20 minutes at most which is great when you have the attention span of a toddler like I do.
Start with your pencil doodle, layer set to multiply. Underneath that, add another layer with a flat color to the skin.
Tumblr media
Add a new layer on top of the skin layer, set it to multiply. I use a reddish brick color and a 0 hardness brush at 20% opacity for blushing. With a hard brush then go over it again to emphazise the eyelids, lips, ears and nose. (It's the red tumblr nose because I'm old school)
Tumblr media
then I like to erase some of the blushing on the forehead and nose to give the face some dimension. Merge the skin and blush layers and erase the excess. On another layer, color in the eyes and teeth using a grayish off-white color.
Tumblr media
Next layer, add a flat color for the hair. Duplicate that layer, set the duplicate to multiply. Erase the bits of hair you want to stand out. I use the darker resulting color for the eyebrows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Underneath the skin layer, I add flat colors for the clothes, etc. Add a new layer set on multiply for the shading. I use a french gray color. Shade like a dumbass, but slap the rembrandt triangle on that cheek so people will think you know what you’re doing.
Tumblr media
Duplicate the lineart layer and add a gaussian blur filter to the duplicate. Gives it that soft look everyone likes. Add shine to the eyes, jewelry, etc on top of that.
The finishing touch is to add a new adjustment layer on top of everything and color balance the shit out of that. I mostly use red. Makes everything look more vivid and warm.
Tumblr media
And done! Now you too can color like an absolute amateur.

I absolutely love following along with your art and the process behind it! I'm curious about more behind the scenes stuff, as I have picked up digital art after not having drawn regularly in 10+ years.
When you do your drawings, what steps do you take? Do you use real references? Skeleton sketches? I'd love to know more about how you approach things digitally!
Oooh, first of all, thank you so much @emeraldzephyr! It is such a lovely thing that you decided to pick it up again!
As for how do I organize myself for drawing, every person works with a different procedures and it is important to know what works for you. For me is organization and inspiration.
For me, the most important thing is having references. It is more important than experience, more important than skill and even than inspiration. When you start messing with a blank canvas you need to know first hand where you want to go, or at least, have an idea. I won't likely start drawing without some references pictures. I learnt this when I took classes last year and this is probably the only thing that actually fully stuck.
My main resource for them is Pinterest, and I navigate through it with intent. I also have multiple packs of pictures of models and references that I have purchased in Artstation. Either way, references, to me, are essential and necessary. In Pint for example I have different boards, some for poses or compositions, some other for finishing, some other for colors palettes, or effects, or styles. I may have (and it is likely to be that way) multiple references for a single illustration ("I like the composition of this one, but the color palette of this other one, but the light works incredible in here, and wait, how was exactly the curvature of the nose of Joe Quinn in this perspective...? Shit! Keery's moles!! How were them distributed in the right side of his face? asdfadfs").
So you see, this is the first and the main thing I do. And I am also fattening with pins all my boards anytime I've got the chance (on my way to work, in public transport, waiting in lines, etc.), so I don't run out of ideas.
When it comes to actually drawing, I always make my canvas extra large and fit the main reference there so I don't get it out of sight (probably the one I'm using for composition) and make a first sketch than I later proceed to fix because it is often that I get wrong the proportions or the perspective, and that's okay. I can do five or six layers of sketches and then I do a first lineart that is messy, but it compiles everything that I have from different references. I spend a lot of time with this. Before shit gets serious and you start with colors, it is important for me to be happy with the sketch, or I may work a lot of hours on this particular illustration and you will end up hating it because "fucking shit, that ear is too small, how didn't I see it before!!!! [yes, I have no shame in showing what I think I failed miserably, the next piece was better, and so on. I keep learning everytime. I trust the process in broader aspects of art, not only in piece by piece]).
I create folders for the color process and try to organize the layers in it, first painting them with plain colors in separate layers and then adding layers once the whole illustration is fully coloured, first starting with shading, and then to light.
For me it is really important to play with the different effects of layers, play with opacity, gradients, brushes, tools, etc etc. I always find some effects that I wasn't expecting and the quality of my work will rise up just because I just found something interesting that weren't expecting at all, so, yeah. I play a lot with my software. All the time.
And finally when I am happy with it as a whole, I add a few filters (noise, blurs, etc.) If I want a very specific effect and I don't know how to do it, I have no doubt in stopping for a minute and finding a tutorial that teaches me how to do it (like the flare in this illustration, or the video effect moving color channels in this one). I always keep in mind that I should not get frustrated when I don't know how to do anything because I can always google it and it is a great opportunity to learn something new.
I am so so so sorry if this was too long, and probably it wasn't interesting enough, but that's what I do. And again, I want to make myself clear when I say that there is not a correct way to do things when it comes to art, this is just what works for me. I am no expert, I had to try and fail many many times to find the right approach for me without getting sad or frustrated. I, myself, have reconnected with art not that long ago after a decade, too.
I wish you the best of luck with your reunion with digital art!! Looking forward to seeing your pieces <3

I want to preface this by saying that I really enjoy and look up to the work that you do. Do you have any advice for improving digital drawing skills? How you do anatomy, how you found and chose your tools and workflow, that sort of thing.
Hey thanks that means a lot, and I appreciate the questions!! I have a feeling this’ll end up being a long-winded explanation, so strap in.
To begin with I tried a lot of different programs, but I ended up on procreate because it just feels the most natural to me! I draw on an ipad with an apple pencil, pretty standard stuff there.
As for the specific tools I use in procreate I actually just use the default round brush under paintbrushes for pretty much everything. Aside from a few more technical brushes for effects and patterns and whatnot, but all those are default brushes too!
When I first started digital art a couple years ago I really had no experience with it whatsoever. I had done traditional art throughout my whole life up until that point, but digital was a whole new beast. A lot of my skills with traditional work definitely carried over, especially once I started to get more comfortable working in digital.
The main thing I can tell you, and which I’m sure you’ve heard countless times already is practice practice practice! You don’t have to slave away practicing eight hours a day and devoting your life to it, but make sure you’re drawing smart! Any drawing is good drawing, but if you really want to improve try and make your practice a bit more focused. Pick one specific thing you struggle with at a time and work on them individually. Drawing from reference is always a good place to start.
As for my workflow, it’s honestly pretty horrible, but it works for me, so that’s all that matters tbh. You just gotta mess around with different things until you figure out what feels most comfortable and natural to your process.
Typically I’ll start from a reference, then once I’ve got enought of the figure down I’ll start to make adjustments with the liquify tool and clean up lines. I personally don’t use any sort of gesture or skeleton when I sketch, I just go straight into the lines and adjust as I go, then clean them up to a point I’m happy with. I also use a ton of layers so I can move around parts easier.
After this I start painting in my flat colors on a layer below the lineart, pretty standard stuff there! Typically when I choose colors I try and keep them all in the same family or tones, so you’ll see all my vampires have very cool tones and a lot of purple. Even the black and white colors have some cool tints in them.
Once my flats are finished I move on to the shadows. I start with the biggest section of color first, usually the skin, and make a clipping layer above it. I set the clip layer to overlay, then depending on the skin tone I use a very dark blue or dark red color for the shadows. This also often takes a bit of adjusting transparency and other values, but I’ve eventually gotten a feel for it.
When actually painting in the shadows I start pretty basic just to block out shapes and get an idea of where I want the light source to be. Then I go back in finer detail. Once I finish with a pass of shadow, depending on how it looks I’ll duplicate the layer, adjust transparency, then use gaussian blur to soften the edges while keeping the original shapes in tact. I also use the smudge tool occasionally for finer adjustments as well.
I do a similar process for each block of color until it’s to my liking. Sometimes, especially on the skin tone, I’ll go back and add another overlay layer above the shadows to do some countershading, which just makes things look a bit more three dimensional.
Once all the shading is finished I go back on the skin very gently with a soft, red airbrush to give it a bit of warmth and life, especially around the face. After this I use a white noise brush on another overlay layer to add some subtle highlights and skin texture. For shiny things like hair I make yet another overlay layer, and use a random brush pack I found online that has some nice water effects.
Once all the rendering and other effects are complete I then go back to my lineart layer, make a duplicate, then color it in red with a clipping mask. I take this new red lineart and bring it all the way down to above where the skin tone layer is. This has a very subtle effect, but it makes all the difference imo. After that I go back to the lineart layer once again and make a clipping layer above it, then gently use a red airbrush around where the light hits brightest. I do the same with a dark blue airbrush on the parts with the most shadow. This gives the lineart a bit of variation in color!
Lastly I just sorta wing the background most of the time so I can’t give you much assistance there haha.
Again, apologies for the super long explanation that probably makes zero sense, but I hope you’re able to at least glean some amount of knowledge from my process!!

HAHAHAHA Every Turk Family has one of those names and unironically mine does too 🫡 Tell your mother thank you she is a very lovely lady
I know all of the artists you listed below because my dad blasts them on the radio everytime we go out... I call it old people music but hey I never said it was bad, they're awesome and I might have memorised some of the artist's songs from how much I listen to them... Barış Manço is a classic without a doubt! Fun fact my parents were able to go to his concert and got a signed picture with him I will always envy how lucky they were 😭 I love how women in the industry made the most iconic songs I hear them often in weddings too! Or clubs, even though I only went to one once I'm not very fond of them...
My questions were do you have any tips or inspiration with how you draw! I love your art and artstyle and it's honestly what I've been trying to achieve for a while, I can't believe I'm learning how to draw men because of a silly lawyer show it's a disease...
(We are just having a conversation at this point) (I feel like those people who speak out loud in public) (I hope you and anyone who's reading this is having a good day :) be kind to yourself and others everyone)
OH MY GOD i envy them too😭😭 also omg that sounds like heaven to me. the other day i went out partying and i felt sooo out of place because i only knew like 3 songs. omg it was so so bad.
hmmm tips and inspiration…. my number 1 tip would definitely be to look at a lot of other artists you like and analyze what exactly you like. and then try to emulate that in your own work. i try to look for inspiration everywhere - artists online, traditional artists, old masters, 3d artists, even theatre and poetry, etc. - doesnt mean that i am equally inspired by them all (because all these things at once sound so scary and big but they really arent!) but rather, i try to be open for anything and that helps me find inspiration :)
ill try to explain my thoughts more under the cut because this got long:
for me for example, so far i only posted some art i made that was lined (which, i would say makes up maybe half of the art i draw - i mostly sketch and recently have been building up the courage to paint more) and one of my inspirations is meltow. i think if you go over and check out their art youll definitely see it lol. but also i love the clean look some comics have and my friends tell me my art looks like it belongs in a comic which, i guess yeah :) when it comes to colors and composition i LOVE this artists works. i still have a lot to learn and just looking at their works inspires me so much!!!
i will say i have ALWAYS struggled with lineart. its probably the worst thing in the world to me because it never feels right!!! i like lining on paper with harsh inks and stiff ink nibs that allow for like. very little variety in line weight, but i havent done that in over 3 years (i hope i can get back to that). but yes, something about lineart makes me feel so icky when i use any brush that reacts to the pressure you put on your tablet LOL i just hate it. ugh. i havent been able to work it out.
it was only in 2020 i think that i decided to try it out with a thick brush with some texture and no pen pressure. that probably was the first time i got actual lineart that (at the time) i liked done. and then later on, discovering that other artists are able to achieve beautiful drawings with similar brushes AND that lining with a very simple brush can feel so satisfying helped me evolve a lot! until 2022, i actually wasnt able to give my art the kind of finished look that i wanted. so what people consider my style is really just born out of my limits and working with them. that obviously doesnt mean that i dont try to challenge myself as much as i can. i do and i think everyone should! thats what makes art so fun
if theres any good advice i can give to a beginner itd probaaaaably be. okay this is difficult and i feel like im not really qualified for this. as a hobbyist much less so because a lot of the knowledge and skills i acquired was through an intuitive process (i could never stick with habits such as regular studies or warmups or whatever is meant to be good for you) which definitely isnt the most “productive” way but i mean it doesnt have to be. its just a hobby! you dont have to perfect art. but yes, i would definitely say dont stop drawing. youll always be your harshest critic and at the beginning, and especially if you begin at an older age because youve been training your eye your whole life but your drawing skills for only a relatively short time you will notice a lot of mistakes. and youll think you wont achieve the image you have in your head. and maybe you wont (because youll always strive for more and youll never really be satisfied as an artist bla bla) for a while. but you have to keep drawing! try out different strategies, find out how other artists draw, watch speedpaints, try out different papers and pencils, try everything that makes it more fun and keep going! it will all pay off!!
in my eyes theres also no point in saying “i should wait till im better to draw this idea i have” because if inspiration strikes you you should use that. even though i still sometimes catch myself thinking like that. you can always redraw things later on!! if theres anything that will keep you drawing you should use that! like getting into shows and games that make me want to draw helps a ton LOL people are not joking when they say getting obsessed with one character is the quickest way to improve. i 100% agree!!! if you saw my first nachos you wouldnt even recognize him. not kidding wow this got long. thank you for the questions though!! i hope some of my rambling can help you. feel free to talk to me whenever!

Cuz people said yes, here’s the sketch, thumbnail and an alternate thumbnail for the title page! (as well as it feat: the old words and no lighting or background)
First picture is the sketch, second is the thumbnail, third is the alternate and fourth is added bonus uwu
I loooveee talking about the process of things, and seeing others talk about their process. It’s so much fun seeing how something was made!!!
Rambling about my experience/process below the cut!!
I knew since the comics gonna be about Future Hilda and, well, the Time worm of course, that I wanted the page to be around them as a main focus. I had a few ideas and, originally did the alternate thumbnail. I wanted her to maybe be on the timeworm and be nervous because heck timeworm. But I wasn’t liking how the pose felt, it felt stiff and like there wasn’t as much stakes sorta thing
So then I started thinking about the moment in the show where Hilda is being chased through all the different time portals by the worm. And I added the other two hildas (added being theyre stick figures JHASDHJDAS)
I liked this one the most and went with it, starting to do the sketches themselves! Figuring out the placements for the rest of the worm was hard and I did have a few hidden layers of messing around to see what worked and what didnt - this was a problem that bugged me even into lineart. But I do like what I settled on. Could I have done better? Probably, but I did like it Tildy was a late addition cuz of how I was struggling with the worms jhasdjhdas
Lineart was really fun, and wasn’t too difficult - I struggled a bit with future hilda and had to redo some bits like the eyes to make them look right, but honestly?? It was jolly fun XD
I actually found out as I was tryna get a colour reference for the time worm, that it hecking changes colour. Like. It goes from white and blue  and sorta gradients into this red and sorta light yellow-orange colour. WHICH IS REALLY COOL IMO but it also made it a lil more difficult cuz I had to figure out what colours to do where and all, and I could only do the gradient once. I fiddled with the gradients and the colours a LOT, trying out different colours, even going darker then what they were in the show at one stage.
Then came. *hisses* the portals. Goodness gracious figuring out how to make them look right was a right job and a half. I started at around 4 am (I’m on night shift so my wake/sleep cycle is reverse don’t worry I didn’t pull an allnighter-) and had finished them by around... 10 am? Judging from my discord messages asking one of my friends for opinions JSAHDHJDAS.
I fiddled around with them a LOT and tried a lot of different things, many of which ended up being deleted becuz I had to try and keep my layer count down so it wasn’t too cluttered/confusing. I do really like the way they turned out in the end, and I got into a decent method for doing them, but goodness gracious it was a difficult one to figure out. I did like a different layer for each colour - one for the light colour inside, one with low opacity for the inside, the white outside, the glow, then a colour on top to make sure it gave off a specific colour light. As well as that I had to make a seperate layer for the parts of the worm interacting with the portals so that I could smoothly make it look like it was inside of them - that was also kinda difficult
THEN CAME LIGHTING! This part was FUN. For everything I covered it in a very dark purple turned down to I believe 66% opacity, since everything would be mostly shadows - I then went through and erased where I felt light would probably hit. I used a smoother brush for the worm, since it was bigger and moved further away so the light wouldnt be as hard on it. And it looked nice jhashjsd.
Then, using another clipping mask layer, I individually added a small gradient of the portal colour - so it seemed more believable that that was what was giving out the light. It was a really nice finishing touch honeslty
So, while I know theres a lot I probably could’ve done better, I honestly had a blast and I’m gonna be starting on sketching out the first page to figure that out. I’ve only been thumbnailing things recently, maybe a month??? Or so??? I’m not sure, but I can definitely reccomend it - it helps with figuring out the poses without ruining a well done sketch, and definitely helped me out with this a lot.
Honestly I’d say at the end of the day, have fun, try and experiment, and use references!!! I had a whole folder of files with references up, from Future Hilda to Tildy to the Time Worm to the portals themselves, each of which I had at least 2-3 references for. It helps a lottttt
Uh if you read this far then thanks!! Sorry bout the rambling ^^’‘

Jewel of the Sea: Chapter 18: A Long Overdue Talk
Chapter 17
Word Count: 1,594
Virgil woke the next morning curled around Elliott, who was trying to get out of bed. Virgil gave a soft groan before untangling their tails and rolling over. “Five more minutes.”
Elliott laughed. “Looks like someone got used to sleeping in.”
Virgil sat up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes and floating slightly before sinking back down into the natural bed. “What time is it?”
“Just past nine.”
Virgil nodded, and moved to grab a fresh covering from the closet. He opened his jewelry box for the first time in a few moons and decided to go all out. He was home, he was royalty, and he wanted to show it. Before he slid the first armband on, his eyes caught on the bracelet Roman had given him. His smile was tinged with sadness at the edges but he kept it on, brushing his thumb over it. “Thank you.” He whispered.
“What was that?” Elliott asked as they turned back around.
Virgil shrugged. “Nothing. Nothing, let’s get to breakfast.”
They headed down to the dining room and took their places. Virgil’s mother commented on him being gone longer than normal but the family was used to him disappearing for moons at a time so no one made too big of a deal out of it.
Toby and Ember were talking about Ember’s crush and how she thought a Necklace was in her future. Nate and Jasper were discussing plans for the crops. Andy, as usual, was just sitting off to the side. Virgil bumped their shoulders together as he sat. “How are you doing?”
Andy just leaned his head on Virgil’s shoulder. “I should be asking you that.”
Virgil chuckled. “I’ll be fine. How have you been holding up?”
Andy closed his eyes, looking exhausted. Virgil knew his twin like his own mind and there was something they needed to talk about. “I’ve been taking it one day at a time, Virgie. Don’t worry about me.”
Virgil laughed. “It’s my job to worry about you, silly.” He squeezed his twin’s hand as they began the meal. “We’ll talk about that later, okay?”
After the meal, Andy said he was going to be in his room so Virgil went to the garden to try to sketch out the Necklace design. He picked up the slate and writing utensils, bemoaning the loss of paper and pencil. Just as he was getting somewhere with the drawing, a knock sounded at the arch.
He looked up, hair floating in the midmorning current. “Yes?”
One of the royal guards was there, looking slightly annoyed. “Someone found a royal-finned out by the edge of town. He says he wants to talk to you.”
Virgil nodded, putting his drawings and thoughts aside. “Send him in, won’t you?” He tried to put on the princely mask he’d always worn for affairs of state like this but he found that it was eerily similar to the polite mask he’d worn at the party. An event he would rather not think of at the moment.
He had no idea who he was expecting to see but it certainly wasn’t the very person, the very human, he was trying to forget. Logan swam in, his hair a mess the current had used as a toy, his shirt rumpled and barely coming far enough down, and his legs in the form of an indigo tail that, despite Virgil’s best efforts, his brain categorized as complementary to his own and a color that looked very nice on the human prince. Logan smiled at him, his hand coming up for a tentative wave. It was the meekest Virgil had ever seen him and, despite all that had happened in the past day, it hurt.
Part of him was elated to see him again, to know that he was here with him instead of with the-. He couldn’t bear to finish that sentence. Instead, he waved the guard away and rose to stand. “What are you doing here? Better question, how did you get here?”
Logan didn’t respond, his eyes scanning Virgil. The mer crossed his arms, acutely aware of just how many bands he had and how few rings. When Logan’s eyes met his again, the human took a deep breath with a wince, clearly not used to breathing water.
“It started at the cliff. I talked with the . . . entity that you gave the stone to. They gave me a tail for three days and I set off to find you. So, I swam for what must have been three hours before time and exhaustion caught up with me and I fell asleep. I woke to a . . .” His voice trailed off as he searched for the right word before eventually just gesturing to Virgil’s tail.
“Mer. We’re called ‘mer’.” Virgil supplied in a tone that conveyed more anger than the hurt he truly felt at seeing Logan here.
“Right, a mer. She asked me which blessing I came from and where my contingent was, claiming she’d never seen me in town before. I have no idea what she meant by blessing so I just asked for you and they brought me here.”
Virgil held up a hand. “What name did you ask for specifically?”
“Virgil. I asked to see a Virgil. I described the purple tail and the side fins,” he gestured to the ones that lined his own sides, “and they brought me here.”
Virgil nodded. “And why are you here?”
Logan frowned, awkwardly moving forward until he was as close as Virgil normally allowed. “Why wouldn’t I be here?” His tone made him sound as if he had no idea what he’d done wrong.
Virgil scoffed, throwing his arms wide. “Maybe because you played with my feelings for a few moons before asking to kiss someone else?”
Logan huffed out a breath, turning to the side slightly before turning back. “How about the lying? How about the consorting with that entity, leading me on all summer, the fake amnesia? How much of that was the truth?” He paused, hurt in his eyes. “Do you even truly care for me?”
That made Virgil snap, his heart shattering. “Out of all the questions to ask!” He had to take a second to run a hand down his face, batting at his floating hair. “Do you even know what I’ve been through in the past day, let alone the past four moons?” He paused for breath, sending a glare toward Logan when the human opened his mouth to speak. “I’ve been captured by pirates who wanted to sell me for profit, made a deal for my life with Remy, faked amnesia just to get that trinket of a necklace, fallen in love with a human and I might as well have betrayed my entire blessing in the process!” Only at the end did Virgil realize he’d been raising his volume the whole time and was now shouting at someone he’d once thought he’d never hurt.
Logan opened his mouth to give a rebuttal but paused. “Fallen in love? How would you be betraying your entire blessing by doing so?” His voice was softer and at a lower volume.
Virgil shook his head, feeling the headache that comes with tears. His voice was shaky but he managed. “No. You don’t get to hear all of my secrets and pain while I know you’re in love with someone else.”
“But I’m not!” Logan ran a hand through his hair uselessly. “I thought he was you!” This was quiet, barely drifting to him.
It was Virgil’s turn to pause, hand reaching to rub his aching eyes. “What?”
“It’s a story that most people would question the sanity of but suffice it to say that the person you saw, or think you saw, was a shapeshifter using your likeness.”
The space was silent for a time before Virgil sniffled. “Does that mean . . .?”
Logan nodded, coming just shy of Virgil’s personal space. “I had wanted to ask if I could kiss you before I professed undying love.”
Virgil smiled, feeling heat rise in his cheeks. “Is it too late to accept the kiss?”
Logan shook his head as his hands came up to cradle Virgil’s cheeks. Virgil’s head dipped down and their lips connected. In that moment, Virgil could have sworn time had stopped. The kiss was sweet and short but it was also everything Virgil had dreamed it would be even before he’d known he wanted it.
“Now,” Logan said when they broke the kiss, “what was that about you betraying your blessing? And, what is a blessing?”
Virgil settled back down in his seat on the sea moss, turning the slate over and hiding the picture that now served a new purpose. “A blessing is a group of mer.” He waited as Logan settled by his side, tails intertwining. “The reason I might have betrayed my blessing by falling for you is that I was willing to give up my life here and live with you on the land. Typically, once a mer chooses to leave their blessing, they aren’t allowed back in.”
Logan took his hand and gently rubbed his thumb over the back of it. “I’m grateful that you are willing to do that.”
Virgil leaned into him, his free hand sliding through the water to hover over Logan’s cheek. The human leaned into his palm and Virgil could have melted. “May I kiss you?” Virgil’s voice was a whisper that was almost a purr.
Logan smiled and leaned in.

yo! i was in your stream the other day and i asked how you did your coloring and you mentioned that a big part of it was having an aliased brush, but i didn't get to stick around long enough to see your demonstration if you did one; would you mind explaining now? thanks regardless
Yeah, no problem!  So normally I ink my TH pages in MangaStudio EX 4 which defaults to aliased line art.
Aliased vs Anti-Aliased
Tumblr media
This is important because it makes filling my flats a lot quicker and as long as your pages or art are very high resolution, when you resize it, it won't be noticeable.
In Photoshop, to access the aliased brush aka pencil tool, just hold down on the brush option until the brush types appear.  Pick the pencil tool.
Tumblr media
I only use this for touch-ups though.  The Pencil tool in Photoshop doesn't make as nice a line as MangaStudio's many varied aliased options.  Here's how I would recommend proceeding if all you have access to is Photoshop.
NOTE:  You might want to take your lineart into a new file and then port it back it in after completing the following steps.  This will require you to collapse all the layers in your file to one image and I hate to see sketches get lost. ;n;
First, ink you art with anti-aliased brushes as you normally would.
Tumblr media
Then go to Image >> Mode >> Grayscale.  You might get a window asking if you really would like to discard the color information in the file.  Say yes, of course. :P
Tumblr media
Then go to Image >> Mode >> Bitmap.
Tumblr media
Now you'll get a menu like this.  If your DPI is 300 (AND IT SHOULD BE), set your Output to 300.  Whatever your DPI is, it should match that number.  For the Method, use a 50% Threshold.  Other Methods generate different looks to your lineart.  Experiment.
Tumblr media
Now your line art should look like this:
Tumblr media
You can take this line art back into your working file and begin coloring it.  Remember to uncheck "anti-alias" on your paint bucket and selection tools.  I usually duplicate my line art layer and fill in the duplicated line layer below my line art.  Here is an example of my work flow next to the finished drawing.
Tumblr media
Let me know if you have any other questions!

“What happened to you?” Kylo chuckled when he came around the corner to find his beautiful girlfriend covered from head to toe in paint streaks.
“I started your banner!” taking the cool bottle of lemonade from him, Y/N quickly took a few sips before brushing over her forehead to look at her work.
Following her gaze Kylos mouth fell open. With a chuckle she carefully pushed his chin up.
“Holy shit! That's me?” he asked astound and stepped closer to look at his own face on the gigantic Banner.
“Well yeah, who else. But it's still not finished so don't expect too much!” she mumbled a bit worried that she wouldn't be able to satisfy everyone's expectations.
“Oh don't make that pouty face, Moonshine. I look fucking badass.” grinning at the banner he already saw the wolf sketch that would be behind his shoulder.
“This will be awesome, you should really stop underestimating yourself so much.” he mumbled and pulled her closer, to press a kiss on her soft lips.
“I know … but that's how the progress works.” stretching herself, Y/N yawned.
“How about we take a little break?” Kylo already grabbed her by her hip and sat her down on the hood of his car.
“Yeah… the paint needs to dry anyway.” leaning back she already enjoyed the nice sunshine and closed her eyes before Kylo joined her.
“Ah wait, careful...” quickly shielding her ear with one hand, she grabbed the tiny white snake that had been sleeping in her hair again.
“Well … Hello Koh, what are you doing here… again?!” Kylo growled with a sweet tone to the snake who just looked away and curled around Y/Ns fingers.
“Phasma is training for her show and he is still too young so I babysit him.” with a smile Y/N started to pat it's tiny head and the little snake closed its eyes in relaxation.
“Well if you want a baby to take care of, I have an idea...” Kylo growled seductively in her ear and she started to chuckle.
“Mhmm I think I should listen to Poes tip and tie you up at night from now on.” with a teasing grin she pressed a kiss on the tip of his nose.
“I`m not in my rut!” he huffed offended and she just giggled even more.
“You are so sweet when you try to hide the truth.” ruffling through his hair, Kylo quickly pulled his head away, not wanting to give her the satisfaction.
“Oh come on. I`m just teasing, Darling.” Y/N took the last sips of her drink before looking surprised at the little snake in her other hand.
“Did you hear that?” looking over to Kylo he only shrugged his shoulders.
“What should i have heard?” gently laying his hand against her cheek, she lightly shook her head.
“Maybe I just have been to long in the sun.” watching the little snake for another moment, she placed him back around her left ear before sliding off the car.
“I get you some water, then… Don't overdo it please.”
“Don`t worry about me, you have your training soon!” she reminded him and he looked shocked down at his watch.
Running into the tent, he quickly grabbed a glass of water and brought it to her before pressing a strong kiss on her cheek.
“I`ll see you later! Love you! God dammit!”
Watching him run towards the big tent she could only try to hide her laughter.
“Yes you`re right. He is a bit clumsy sometimes.” Y/N answered the little snakes hiss and started to mix her paints to continue Kylos banner.
A few hours later, Y/N had made a lot of progress and the little snake slowly poked his head out between her hair.
“You want to take a break?” she asked it and Koh hissed delighted. For now the Banner needed to dry anyway and tomorrow she would be finally finished with the first one. It was only missing Kylos stage name now. Cleaning her brushes and the glasses she had used, she stepped inside the cool tent. She had already noticed that whatever kind of weather was outside, the tents were always at a comfortable temperature.
“Want to help me choose the colours for your Mamas Banner?” she asked the little snake while placing it next to her sketchbook on the wooden work desk.
Letting out a small hiss, Y/N nodded with a smile.
“I'll get you some water then.”  getting a tiny bowl she filled it with water and placed it next to the small snake and watched him drink for a moment, before she pulled her aquarelle colours out of a drawer.
“So what do you think? I put you big in front like you wished for. Phasma right after you with all your other siblings.” Y/N stretched her hand out to the white snake who quickly slithered on it and looked down at the finished lineart she had made.
“Pretty!” the snake hissed and pressed his scaled snout against Y/Ns cheeks just like a small kiss. Giggling to herself, she watched Koh for another moment. So it was him she had heard earlier, first it was a little shock but now that she had time to think about it, it made sense. Since she was here she had noticed more and more magical things inside the circus, little things like the changing appearance of her co-workers, who looked more and more like their original forms. A man with horns, a woman with flowing hair as if she was constantly underwater or the wondrous animals she just had laid eyes on so far. So, that she was able to understand Koh it must have been a part of being here and especially being accepted by everyone, even though she was just a mere human, at least that was her conclusion to all of this.
“So since you're white, how should i paint you ...” Y/N started to mumble to herself while taking a closer look at Koh who rolled himself together on her hand.
“Rainbow.” he hissed and she noticed the lightest bit of colourful shimmer on his small scales.
“Oh I see! I can definitely try something like this!” grabbing another piece of paper she prepared an example and showed it to Koh.
With a small hiss the Snake observed the paper before turning itself to it's own body.
“More shimmer, please?”
“No problem, sweety. Silver or Gold?” placing two containers next to the test drawing the small snake looked between them.
“Silver, please.” he nodded excited and watched closely while she placed a thin layer over the light rainbow part.
“How is that, my little friend?”
“Perfect! Thanks!” getting booped by his snout again, Y/N smiled. It was nice to have the little snake around while all of the others were so busy preparing their acts, since the first date of the show was announced for this weekend.
Working on the colouring for Phasmas Banner, Koh slowly made his way on her head to watch from above while he curled around a strand of hair.
-
“Can we visit Mama soon?” the small snake asked after a while with a yawn and Y/N carefully stretched herself after putting her brush down.
“Yeah, let's go… I'm creatively exhausted too.” cleaning up her desk, Y/N soon made her way towards the big tent, the sun slowly sinking in the background.
Koh climbed back down towards her ear where he had the best grip and felt the most comfortable.
“Y/N? I was just about to come over to you.” Phasma was approaching them and Koh quickly stuck his head out of Y/Ns hair.
“Mama!” he called with a wide open mouth which made Phasma smile with adoration.
“Are you done already? Koh wanted to watch you rehearse.” Y/N stated and helped Koh from her ear before holding him towards his mother.
Surprised, the tall woman let Koh climb from Y/Ns hand to her own, not taking her eyes off of the young woman in front of her.
“How did you know?”
“He told me.” tilting her head the slightest Y/N shrugged her shoulders as if it was the most normal thing.
“Is that so?” Phasma smiled, not trying to show how concerned she was.
“Yes. She understands me, Mama. It's very nice. We talked a lot today.” pushing his head against Phasmas cheek for a moment, Koh soon slithered up into her hair.
“Let's go together then. Everyone is still in the tent. How did your painting go?” she asked while they walked to the Main Entrance.
“Good! Just need to put Kylos Name on the Banner tomorrow and then I will be starting with yours. Koh helped me pick most colours.” she smiled and the small snake nodded delighted, Phasma could tell he was very proud about it.
For her little child it was of course exciting to be able to communicate with a normal human, but it made her more than worried.
Entering the main tent, Y/N could already see Kylo on the wooden stage in his big wolf form, before someone laid their arms around her waist, it was Rey.
Y/N could feel Rey slightly rub her head against hers and she started to laugh. Since she had spent a few hours with the female werewolf to sketch her, Y/N and Rey slowly became friends after getting over the first awkward hurdle.
“Get your goddamn awful smell off of her!” Kylo suddenly screamed and came running, before turning back into his human form and ripping Y/N basically away from the other before nuzzling his face like crazy against hers.
Starting to giggle, she quickly pressed a kiss on his lips and in an instant he seemed to calm down.
“Come on, at least let me borrow her from time to time.” Rey called teasingly while stalking around them.
“In your dreams, bitten!” growling he wrapped his arms tighter around Y/Ns waist.
“Don’t be so selfish, especially when she smells so sweet at the moment.” Rey sighed deeply as if she was talking about the most beautiful thing in the world.
“Now you've done it!” turning back the black much bigger wolf chased around a brown one which only snickered while running away.
“What is it with them today?” Y/N laughed while watching them before Finn landed right beside her, which made her look up in confusing wondering where he even came from.
“As far as we understand it...”
“More like just assuming...” Poe interrupted.
“We think Rey is teasing Kylo for his rut, since you are ready to have pups.”
“Oh okay… Wait… what?!” first she nodded understandingly before Y/Ns eyes widened in realization.
“Kylo explained to us once that werewolves fall into ruts when they smell that their female is most fertile to have the pups.”
“And he smells that?!” she shrieked while sniffing on her own arm, her cheeks getting redder by the second.
“Your blood does smell a little sweeter than normal, I guess.” Finn agreed nodding.
Shocked Y/N looked at Finn, before she pulled the jacket around her shoulders closer and quickly zipped it up.
“Pervert ...” Y/N crossed her arms in front of her chest.
“No! Please don’t misunderstand I'm not doing it on purpose!” Finn plead to her.
“Vampires and Werewolves just have a very sensitive nose for blood. Believe me!”
“How embarrassing ….” she mumbled and wrapped her arms around herself.
“Don't give it any mind. That's just how these things work i guess.” Phasma tried to calm her and patted her head.
Kylo had thrown Rey off the stage who landed in her normal form next to them.
“Fine big guy. I keep away from her for now until you calmed down.” the young woman bowed and winked to Y/N before leaving the tent.
The black wolf quickly came running again, his mouth curled up into a grin, very proud of himself to have defended his mate, before he turned back and embraced her.
Nuzzling his face against hers again, Kylo tried to get rid of every bit of smell that wasn't his.
When he looked down at her again and saw her flustered face, Kylo bit his lip, she was just too cute and goddamn tempting.
“Sorry for the chaos...” he apologized and she only nodded slightly while avoiding his gaze.
“Are you already done with training? Kou and I planned to watch.”
“Ah yeah sorry … maybe tomorrow. I'm pretty beat too...” leaning with his heavy weight down on her, Y/N started to struggle to keep him up.
“How about we just go home and cuddle… lots.” he suggested with a loud yawn.
“Actually Kylo, there is something I would like to talk with you beforehand. If that's okay with you...” Phasma suggested and looked down at Y/N.
“Oh sure. I will prepare a nice hot bath for you, my love.” standing on her tiptoes, Y/N pressed a gentle kiss on his lips before she wished everyone else a good night and left.
With a heavy sigh Kylo watched her leave before he gave Phasma and the little snake on her head his attention.
“What is it? You look pretty serious.” raising his eyebrows, she suddenly pointed up at the small snake that was just letting out a long yawn.
“Y/N can understand him! I don't know why or how, but she can completely understand him!”
“Are you really sure about that?”
“I didn't see it myself, but Koh and her both confirmed it.”
“Wait… holy shit does that mean she is one of us?” sitting down next to the werewolf, Poe crossed his legs.
“She can't be...” Kylo stated shocked before letting himself fall on a chair nearby.
“She doesn't smell like any of us. And if Y/N really can understand him shouldn't she at least have a similar fragrance like Phasma?” he asked Finn who only nodded in thought.
“Yeah, they have completely different scents.” the Vampire agreed.
“She doesn't have to be a Snake person to talk to him. I mean… Nature Spirits could too.”
“And it seems like Y/N just now started to understand him, right?” Poe added and Phasma looked to her small son who slowly nodded.
“He tried before but today was the day she seemed to really understand him.” she explained to the others.
“That is… unexpected.” brushing his hair back, Kylo took a deep breath.
“Well it doesn't really change anything seeing that she might not know herself.”
“Is it only Kou she can speak to?”
“I don't know… come to my tent tomorrow and we can find out. It just really surprised me...”
“Finn and I could do some research if you want too...” Poe suggested but Kylo seemed to barely listen anymore.
“Yeah, I will try to talk to her about it.” standing up he left the others behind without saying another word and made his way to the edge of the Circus where their tent was.
As soon as he saw her, Kylo grabbed her by her waist and picked her up before letting his lips clash against hers.
With a chuckle she wrapped her legs around his hip and quickly held onto his broad shoulders.
“Don't get ahead of yourself...” she warned with a smile when she felt his firm grip on her behind.
“But you are so goddamn tempting.” kissing along her neck, he could hear her heartbeat fasten before she quickly pushed his face away and laid her hands over his nose.
“How do I smell like to you?” she asked ashamed and for a moment he looked confused at her.
“Oh … the others told you, huh?” nodding the slightest, Y/N laid her head on his shoulder.
“Well to me ...” leaning down to her he let his nose run over the exposed skin on her neck.
“You smell like a warm summer night and since yesterday there is a hint of sweetness that just drives me crazy. Similar to the Cotton Candy that we ate the night we met.” Y/N screamed when Kylo suddenly let himself fall with her onto their bed.
“And it's not just that, if you should think that. You`re drop dead gorgeous and i still can't fucking believe that you are mine. Only mine.”
“Okay okay enough or my heart will explode!” chuckling shyly, Y/N was the one who nuzzled her head against him.
“Are you sure, because I have a lot more.” he smiled while smothering her face with kisses.
“Kylo?” hearing her serious tone he stopped and looked down on her.
“How is that when someone is expecting pups? What happens at full moon when the baby is still in the mother?”
“You were worrying about that?”
“Well when we have pups at some point ...better I will be prepared, right? Besides it seems to be the topic of the whole damn Camp...” she mumbled and her cheeks started to flush with a pink hue. They never had gone further than snogging and already talking about children seemed a little much, but also necessary and she was curious herself.
“Oh sweetheart… let me show you something.” pulling out his phone, he rolled right beside her and showed her a few pictures.
“I asked my mom to send them earlier this week.” he swiped through the pictures and watched intently when she started to giggle.
“Wait, is that really you with little wolf ears?”
“Yeah that's me when I`m two. Werewolves start transforming around their 3-5 year. It will be just like a completely normal pregnancy my mother told me.”
“So you were an early one, huh?” she grinned.
“I always was. When you hit puberty it's starts that the full moon takes over.” he explained while Y/N had taken the phone from him still staring interested at the pictures until she saw a small Kylo in a tub.
“Oh no! Your bath!” suddenly jumping from the bed she run to the back of the tent.
With a smile on his lips Kylo shook his head before his eyes fell back on a picture with his parents. A heavy sigh escaped his lips before he followed Y/N after a short while.
“Maybe you should join me… you are still covered in paint, my Moonshine.” laying his hand on her hip from behind, he looked over her shoulder while she added something into the hot water.
“I would just ruin the nice water and we two would both be stained. So you still have to go in alone, my love.” leaning against his chest, she felt him press a kiss against her head before he buried his face in her hair.
“Maybe next time then.” he said teasingly before turning her around, pulling Y/N into a soft kiss.
“I love you, Moonshine.”
“I love you too… my big bad wolf. Now get your butt in that tub!” she chuckled before giving him a light slap on his butt just like he would always do.
“Yes ma’am.” pressing a quick kiss against her temple, the werewolf let her leave and soon was laying in the tub, just letting the hot water soak in and his sore muscles relax.
Now waiting for Y/N to come out of the bath, Kylo was just rubbing his hair dry while trying to think of a way how to start up a conversation about the fact that she could speak with the little snake.
It was something that he just couldn't wrap his head around, for him her scent always had stuck out of the crowd of normal humans, but that she might be one of them was a light shock for him.
Of course it didn't change anything about his feelings for her, he was just worried under which circumstances she lived beforehand since she didn't seem to know herself.
Hearing her little footsteps come closer he looked up to find his girlfriend in her favourite pyjamas and dripping hair.
“You stole all the towels!” she pouted and he quickly took the towel he just used to throw it over her head to ruffled her hair dry.
Letting herself fall into his lap, she waited patiently with a smile.
Just these small moments were something that always made her day and it seemed like for Kylo it was the same, that he literally forgot to talk with her and soon the were cuddled up in their gigantic bed.

i just know you just for a few days (because I was offline for months), and now you're one of my favourites blogs!! so, direct to the point,, i really like your style- could you show your tactics, what brushes do you use, what art program and how do you choose good colours? i'm sorry if that's too much, i am just very curious :))
aww thank you so much! i never showed anyone how i draw, so this might be sloppy, but bear with me
(I use Photoshop to draw. and I use a wacom tablet)
sketch
ok so the first thing is sketching, obviously. for a lot of the drawings on this blog I don’t sketch because the objects are usually easy to draw and I don’t need a sketch.
line art
then there is the lineart. so I pretty much always use the pencil tool instead of the brush tool because it makes all the other steps (coloring, shading, etc.) MUCH easier. yes, it has some cons but that’s just what I like to use. usually for the little doodles for requests I make I use a size 4. if I’m drawing humans I’ll make the size bigger (6-10). I also mostly don’t use pen pressure but lately I started kinda using it. but the problem with the pencil tool’s pen pressure is that it looks like garbage. SO I invented a way to use pen pressure with it looking kinda descent. there are probably other ways to do it but I’m dumb.
Tumblr media
(I would suggest doing this tactic on simple drawings, like the objects)
Tumblr media
first of all draw using the softest brush, the size doesn't rly matter (dont use 600 lol) use the pen pressure of course
Tumblr media
merge the layer with the drawing (the drawing must be black) with a completely white layer
Tumblr media
double tap the layer and slide the (first) little white triangle to the left until the drawing looks the way you want (the more it goes left, the thinner the lines will be)
next merge the layer with a completely blank layer (this is important)
Tumblr media
press this little button and make ur brush big and draw black on the whole drawing.
and you’re done :D you might need to a bit of fixing tho. (also I suggest to not use black for line art but I’ll talk about it more later)
Tumblr media
coloring
basically it’s don’t use gray...   put a bit of blue in it. and don’t use eye strain-y colors (also I’m just saying this rn, there is no right or wrong way of coloring or drawing, this is just how i do it) also I use very dark purple/blue instead of black
Tumblr media Tumblr media
also photoshop has this little warning when the color is really bright, so you can click on it to fix it but sometimes it’s not enough for me.
using a color palette on a character is also useful and reusing colors but sometimes I’m too lazy for that.
the filters i put on the drawing at the end also are really important to the drawing so you can skip to that if you want.
shading
pretty much put the shading the opposite of where the light source is coming.
Tumblr media
this is what i use for shading:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the colors aren’t consistent.
more shading/highlights/coloring/whatever
after im done shading i make another layer between the color and shading layers. use the magic wand tool to pick one color from the drawing and go to the new layer, color pick the shading on the color you picked
Tumblr media
(ps idfk how to spell its almost midnight shut up) and use the soft brush to ad a gradient under the shading with the color of the shadow
Tumblr media
and set the opacity to 40%
Tumblr media
color of line art
first of all don’t make the line art black, i use a dark blue/purple. it also depends on what colors I used for the drawing
Tumblr media
then on another layer I ad color to the line art if it has the same colors on both sides of the line. (use the color of the shading of the color thats on both sides but darker and ya know play w/ it a little)
Tumblr media
highlights

filtersssssss
well at this point ur pretty much done but lets make the colors looks better!
Tumblr media
put all the layers in group. copy that group. marge all the content of the newer group (the second group should be on top of the first one). click the merged layer and press ctrl + b
Tumblr media
play with this how you would like.
press ok and then ctrl + u
Tumblr media
I usually make the saturation lower and the lightness higher. and lower the opacity of the layer
Tumblr media
more filters!
Tumblr media
it’s not consistent. you just kinda play w/ it
Tumblr media
AND THAT’S IT
conclusion
this post is way too long and idk how to explain shit and i prob could have drawn like 5 drawings by the time finished reading. if anyone read even.

Yuumi’s art process (with pics!)
Tumblr media
This is how I go about doing the art palettes, and generally how I do art (specially on lose, not so long pieces such as these). I’ll breakdown the process under the cut so I don’t spam people’s timelines (´・ω・`)
I was going to put these final advises at the very end but someone else might make use of these instead of going through the whole thing so here:
Important things to keep in mind in case you’re learning and actually think I’m worth being listened:
References are GOOD. No one is perfect and no one knows how to draw stuff from their memory so go google weird things, Google-sensei won’t judge. Hopefully. (else set your navigation on private).
Brushes and whatnot don’t make the artist, but it sure as hell help you feel like you’re doing what you like or not. I can’t stress enough how many times I’ve just not finished works because my brushes felt “off”.
Posemaniacs is very good for both anatomy and speed practise (I’m aware I’m really fast compared to my fellow artist friends but by no means it’s a standard, I just got used to work fast uwu)
Be careful with your wrist!!! use your whole arm when drawing!! and also T a k e · b r e a k s.
Art block is a bitch and strikes anyone. I’m usually artblocked but if you find something you’re passionate about go draw that, whatever it is. (I hadn’t consistently drawn in p much 5 years after college and thanks to MLB season 3 here I am LOL)
And now for the actual breakdown:
Tumblr media
Step 1: Sketch
My first step is the sketch, which some of you might think “but it’s SO CLEAN!!”, yes, sometimes I leave my sketches as lines and polish them a bit. Anyways, these is what my sketch looks like and next an important thing:
Tumblr media
...which is the 2/3 rule! Photoshop blabbery ahead, tl:dr how i made the grid
I’ve been doing this small trick by filling a layer of any color, lowering the opacity to 50% and transforming it to 33,33% it’s height duplicate and place on each side of the canvas and then merge, and then another layer doing the same but doing 33,33% width instead of height. Then I merge both layers, set the opacity to 30% and the result is that perfect 2/3 rule.
If you don’t really know what the rule is, I kindly suggest this instead of my explanation bc words are not my forte.
Tumblr media
Step 2: Lineart!
Nothing to say here other than cleaning the lines from earlier with a different (or the same in this case) brush as the sketch one. Opacity varies from day to day.
I have several styles of lineart and they all come with the mood I feel on that day, so don’t be afraid of experimenting and finding what you like most! I personally like thin lines a lot but also thick lines too! i’m constantly looking for the perfect line™ and to give an idea this is what my brushes look like:
Tumblr media
in summary, practise with as many tools you can find around and see which ones you like most uwu
Tumblr media
Step 3: Base Color
This is probably the part where I give up the most bc it boooooores me LOL. I try to spend as little time as possible in order to overcome this step. These are usually colors I use in 99% of my pics, since... idk years. If you look in my old arts in twitter you’ll see them haha.
Something important I’d like to mention here is ✨LAYERS✨:
Tumblr media
This is how my layers look like in the base color part. I tend to do 1 for skin color, 2 for hair / eyes, 3+ for clothes and stuff. I tend to separate them in colors so they don’t merge! I go with numbers because... I think it’s faster to type and I’ve been using this way of naming for years so it works for me, what matters is that you group your layers and keep them organized uwu (specially if someone else has to look at your psd files >>)
Tumblr media
Step 4: Shading!
Normally, I shade every single layer with a proper shade but on the case of the palette challenge I’m doing just the skin because I want to stress the light mood. Liiiike if I want to go with a softer light I’d use lighter shades or a stronger light = stronger shades. To pick colors, I usually go with that brown from Chat Noir and Marinette’s jacket as my universal black (I don’t like working with black, I’m weird), and most of the colors I just eye pick from the Color Picker on Photoshop. In the right you can see my swatches:
Tumblr media
To choose the shade tone (in this example we’ll use Chat Noir’s hair), I picked a Yellow -Adrien’s hair is specially hard to color ugh- And then with that same tone I’d choose its shade going diagonally looking for a darker tone. This way you can find interesting colors! On this pic I did that for Adrien’s hair and... the rest I did the following:
Tumblr media
I did my lazy shading™ : which consists in a layer set to Multiply with 50% opacity (this varies depending on the light, again), and I shade everything with the same tone (my to go is purple, but sometimes I use other colors too). This gives a sense of uniformity and the resulting shades are way nicer in my opinion.
Tumblr media
Step 5: But Yuumi... where are the palettes???
I take that people straight handpick the palettes and use them to shade all the way and I respect them for that. I instead decided to do whatever floats my boat so I color regularly but add the palettes over the whole thing to change the overall mood and colors of the illustration. I randomly use the Gradient Tool and use the palettes’ colors around and then set that layer to Screen, Multiply, Focal Light, Overlay... etc etc, whatever I feel like doing in that moment, and so the magic happens! :’D
I don’t usually do this on my works but this is a new way to experiment for me and I’m having fun with it!
Tumblr media
Step 6: Finishing Touches
Here is where I use the palettes the most, adding random highlights in whatever way I feel like. Yep, I pretty much Ladybug my whole coloring process: Wing it and go with the flow™. I’m still learning about lighting and whatnots but I really don’t care at this point LOL
To which you’ll say: But Yuumi?? In art school they told me that---
To which I say: shhhhhhhhhhhhh assigntments are over for me. go watch some Bob Ross (I am serious). Do whatever you feel like. Be happy. No one is going to judge you, and if they wanna judge they better be paying for your work first. so. whatever you do: BE HAPPY. or don’t do it. unless it’s a school assignment, in that case go do it or i’ll kick your ass.
✦ Finishing Notes ✦
So yea, that’s my art process in how I’ve been doing these Miraculous Color Palettes and generally how I go about my illustrations most of the time. For more complex illustrations, I need to remember how I did those (oops). And actually, do them. These illustrations usually take up 2 or 3 hours to make, on other pieces i’ve been working on them for up to 8 hours, it really varies from piece to piece, but I hope this was helpful!
Please let me know if you have any questions, commenting in this very post will help me -and others?- keep track of things and learn together! My asks are also open and I’ll reply as fast as I can uwu (my requests are still waiting there, don’t worry).
aaaaand that’s all, folks. Stay Peachy!

it’s been a decade babes
lemme show yall one thing I drew every year from 2010 to 2019 so I can feel better about myself, yes. go on a journey with me.
Tumblr media
2010. Colored pencil shit featuring my OC Cerise, back in the days where I really just did not give a shit if what I was drawing made any kind of sense. What is that outfit? Idk, I had fun.
Tumblr media
2011. The water looks like galaxy shit bc they’re space pirates. so the water is space. do you get it? real boats don’t need anyone to steer it’s fine. The fucker in the orange and black is @fiddlezips‘ idiot and the other dude is mine.
Tumblr media
2012. tfw you drew Anime Cat Girl Nyaaa for the memes and it’s actually the best thing you drew that year. ngl I still dig the lighting on this one. check out that default photoshop grass brush though, that is some high brow shit.
Tumblr media
2013. what if I used white lineart instead of black, wouldn’t that look neat? it sure would. kinda still want this lady to step on me.
Tumblr media
2014. I’d like to say I have an explanation for this but I don’t. yes that’s the same idiot from the 2011 one, he has unfortunate staying power. he’s a. mage? who is too cool to walk now? I forget. I spent a lot of time on his makeup and you better look at it.
Tumblr media
LOOK AT IT.
Tumblr media
2015. I drew a deity from a friend’s long-running project, my good pal Tenor (whom I don’t think is on tumblr anymore but correct me if I’m wrong) and their Iotera universe. This is Bataashi, a shapeshifter who always looks incredible regardless of form, probably. v purple and sparkle.
Tumblr media
2016. A fan character for the same project as 2015, a member of their plant-people species called Laies. Why did I do the thing with half of her hair being leaves? Because I hate myself and like to suffer is why.
Tumblr media
2017. Again this same project, these 3 being the main characters of the comic Tenor was working on at the time. Those borders were fun in their own hellish way.
Tumblr media
2018. I drew so fuckin little that year that this chibi (of a character belonging to @toranekohybrid and yet another species of Tenor’s) from ArtFight last year is the best I got. That said, I do still like the hair. I kinda wanna touch it.
Tumblr media
2019. Hey look it’s Sailor Moon. This was the first Nice, Finished digital piece I had done in a really long time and it felt good. It’s from the beginning of this year but yknow what? It’s more than I did the year before and that matters.
Anyway thanks for walking down dumb ass memory lane with me. Have some honorable mentions.
Tumblr media
local child found dead after being smothered in his sleep by a growlithe, more at 11.
Tumblr media
my magnum opus. it was with a heavy heart that this wasn’t my 2010 selection, but it wouldn’t have been fair to all my other art to compare it to This.
Tumblr media
His name is Gyarabro. That is all.

Hiiii!!! I really love your kiribaku fanarts...I've seen that you also draw haikyuu art as well and i'm thrilled to found this out :) (since I'm kinda new here.) have you heard the news that hq!! s4 is confirmed in sept?
I have!!! I wonder how far in they’re gonna get with adapting the manga in it, cause the current arc is being !!!!!! hhhhhhhhh !!!!!! but it’s definitely too much to ask for this game to be adapted in s4 already haha I’m especially hype for Daishou, Hoshiumi and Kita to be animated >:]c
Anon said:Hey!! I love your work!! But I’m curious, how long does it take for you to draw + color what you post? Like on average?
Thank you!! And that really, really depends on what I’m drawing/how much effort I’m putting in/how good I’m feeling about drawing while drawing, so I can’t easily say! For a full colors piece it goes from two or even just one hour (when it’s characters I’m used to draw in simple clothing with no bg/easy poses or anything equally easy) to over two days of constant work (lotsa characters or a character I’m not used to, complex clothing, a huge background, things like that) - the single page illustration that took me the longest to ever finish was my extra piece for the sixth wheel zine and that one was something like five or six days of constant work!
I tend to be very sloppy with what I make though, and my style was built to let me be as fast as I possibly could cause my attention span is minimal orz I’m working on that !!!!
Anon said:I really love the way you draw it’s so beautiful
Thank you so much!!! TTOTT
Anon said:Happy New Year’s! Your art really inspires me to be an artist, so thank you. I’ve only recently discovered your blog, but whenever I see your art it makes me really happy!
Oh man that makes me so happy to hear?? I hope you’re having all the fun in the world with your art!!!!
Anon said:I’m excited to see more luca and nico I’m not ready for their cuteness 🥰
I wanna draw more of them toooooooo !!!!!!! maybe soon!!! I’m so happy to hear you’re excited about them
Anon said:Any tips for lineart, bc mine literally looks like pixels
It would seriously be easier for me to help you if you could tell me which art program you use and which tools, ngl! I don’t really know what you mean with “looks like pixels” since from my experience the only ways to make the lineart look like pixels is to either use the binary tool or to zoom in on the drawing further than 100% (but in the second case it should stop being a problem once you save the drawing anyway) - like this the only tip I can give you is to switch tools around a bit to see what looks best for you! I use Easy Paint Tool SAI as a program and my lining tools are either the default brush tool or (lately) the default pen one, both with sizes between 4px and 6px - it’s really basic tools really! If you’re asking how to make your lines look smooth, then that changes from artist to artist and the best thing I can tell you to do is to keep trying different ways till you find the one that works best for you (again, yes) - my way is to try and interrupt the line while lining as little as I can, which implies a lot of ctrl+z and drawing the same lines over and over again till they look right orz you get faster at it the more you try, at least haha
Anon said:I just saw the drawing of your OC, Dave (I love it and I love him) and I was wondering where you got the inspiration for his shirt? Did you create it or is it actually a design you’ve seen before? Because I love it! I hope you have a nice day! :D
Ah, I made it up myself! He likes cats and he likes music so I mixed the two haha I’m glad you liked it, though!! And I’m glad you liked my boy, too!!!
