Hello!
Can you do Jason todd x reader where he's crushing on the newest vigilante in Gotham?
Thank you
New in Town
Tumblr media
Jason Todd x Reader || Fluff || Word Count: 1,185
Warnings: profanity (swearing), death mention, violence, low-key stalking but not really??
Wrote half of the fic. Was nearly finished. It didn’t save. 😩 the ONE time i decide to write outside of the notes app
I love the idea of Jason crushing on someone like a teenage boy because he never actually GOT that chance as a teenager so he never learned how to cope with those kind of feelings, so I sprinkled that in here.
I feel like this is poorly written forgive me 🙏
Tumblr media
He hadn’t heard of you until six months ago. He hadn’t cared then, either. You kept to the other side of the city, you didn’t pose a threat, and he was already preoccupied with his own things to deal with. You weren’t that important to him.
Jason was walking across rooftops. Two weeks, roughly, since he had caught wind of the new name, aligned with the rest of the bats.
It was a night where the rain had let up for once. It wasn’t perfect, though. Never was. The clouds still too thick to see the bright moon and stars.
He was looking for an address, one that seemingly didn’t exist. He landed on another rooftop of a short apartment building. Jason could hear the sounds of two people fighting down in the alley below him.
He walked to the edge, looked down, and there you were. Dressed up in your vigilante gear, fighting some thug.
He crouched, watching. This was much more entertaining then his fake address.
The thug was much bigger than you, but you handled yourself well. The thug lurched forward. You planted a hard, flat, kick to his stomach. He stumbled back. You got in a good punch, a right hook. The thug went with it. He bashed his back off the corner of a dumpster before crumbling to the ground.
Jason nodded once in approval. You didn’t play.
You both saw it at the same time. The clouds parted for a moment behind Jason, the light of the moon shining down over Gotham for just a moment.
The shadow of the top of the apartment split the alleyway below in half, with Jason’s crouched form’s shadow landing right in front of the thug.
He stood up and stepped back from the edge just as you started to look up. He was out of sight before you could see him. At most, you saw the glint of his helmet, but nothing else.
He walked away. He didn’t want to deal with this.
Three weeks later, Jason’s standing on a catwalk in one of Gotham’s many abandoned warehouses. He’s high enough up, hidden within a shadow, that they couldn’t see him even if they had the brains to check up instead of around.
He’s holding his AR-15, pointed down below at the drug dealers he’s been following all week. His aim is steady, mind going over the motions of the possibilities.
“Psst.”
Jason whipped his head up. He aimed the rifle in front of him. There, on the other catwalk, ten feet away from him, was you.
You were leaning on the railing, smiling. Jason didn’t like how his first thought was the realization that this was the closest he had ever been to you.
“Want some help?” You whispered loudly, your smile pulling into a grin.
He looked back down, fixing his aim, “No.”
You leaned further over the railing, exposing nearly half your body to the drug dealers below if they so happened to look up. You whispered your name. Your vigilante name, that is. He didn’t respond.
“Rude,” he heard you mutter. You stayed silent for just a moment as he watched the dealers walk around their table, complaining about their business not showing up. The business that Jason had left dead in an alleyway an hour ago.
Silent treatment wasn’t going to work. You spoke up again, “Why didn’t you say hello? When you saw me in the alley?”
“Maybe I didn’t want to.” Except he had wanted to, just not like that. And not like this.
It was your turn to stay silent. Jason looked up without moving. With his helmet, you couldn’t tell if he was, or was watching the men below.
Standing up straight again, your head was turned away a little, obviously listening to somebody babble away in your ear.
He looked back down before you turned your head back, “Welp, should’ve accepted my offer. I gotta go.”
“Buh-bye,” Jason said dryly before you were walking off down the catwalk.
What can he say? He was intrigued after that. He’d watch you fight from hidden corners, never daring to step out. He waited for the right opportunity to talk to you again. He… did it for too long. A couple months too long.
It wasn’t stalking. That’s what he told himself. He hadn’t pushed to discover your identity, hadn’t learned your exact schedule. He just… kept looking for a chance to talk.
Jason hated it. Hated that he couldn’t come up with a way to approach you. Hated how he got tongue tied thinking about it. How his palms got damp. What could he say?
He ran into Dick one night. They sat on the edge of a building and talked. Which turned to bickering for a while, before it came into a “Who had the worst Bruce experience” argument.
He shut up the second you landed on the roof behind them, “I could hear you two from an entire street over.”
Dick clapped his hands together, a smile breaking out at the sight of you. Jason turned to watch. He walked over, happily calling your name. He got to you, pointing at Jason as he slipped an arm around your shoulders, “Tell this guy he’s wrong.”
You frowned, “I don’t even know this guy.”
Jason remembered he had taken off his helmet, left in only his domino mask. You couldn’t see the rest of his clothes from the fact he’s sitting facing away from you.
Speak! Dammit! He chided himself. He picked up his helmet from his side, bringing it around to show you. He watched your eyes widen in recognition.
“Ooooh,” you immediately nodded, “Yeah. You’re wrong.”
Jason found his words with an amused smirk, “You don’t even know what for.”
You shrug and Dick laughs, “That’s the spirit!”
Jason turned back around. He pretended like he was watching the city line, but he was really listening to yours and Dick’s conversation. He kept trying to look for ways in, ways to talk to you.
Now! Nope, Dick said something unrelated, too quickly. Now your conversation went in that direction. Here! Too late. He hesitated.
He stopped listening, pursing his lips in annoyance at his own stupid, boyish inability to talk to the attractive new vigilante.
“Oh… he said he didn’t want to talk to me. Probably annoyed by my presence.”
He tuned back in.
“How rude.”
“That’s what I said!”
Jason looked back over his shoulder. The two of you were standing there, arms crossed, looking at him.
“What?”
Dick seemed to remember something, “Have you two even been formally introduced?”
You grumbled something along the lines of, “Tried that.”
Jason shrugged, “I’ve seen them around,” he met your eyes, “You fight good.”
What kind of fucking compliment is that?
“So do you,” you smiled.
Jason’s eyebrows furrowed a little in confusion. You could see the movement through the domino mask, “You’ve never seen me fight.”
You grinned, pointing at him, “That’s what you think.”
Jason smirked a little. Oh, he liked you, alright.

Like Betta Fish Do Part 22
wc: 2556, Masterpost
Danny was flying to Chicago.
It wasn’t exactly his choice to be flying to Chicago. He’d much rather be in Gotham getting some homework done at Jason’s while stealing kisses and food. That was his idea of a good weekend right there and with the end of the semester swiftly approaching he had plenty to do. But no, Sam had told him he better get his undead ass to Chicago that weekend or she’d come to Gotham and drag him out by his hair. Danny had long ago drank his respect women juice (and knew Sam would follow through), so he was flying to Chicago.
Tucker, equally as whipped by Sam, was driving into the city that same day.
Apparently they had to talk about Jason.
In person.
Danny thought it was overkill, but no one wanted to listen to the dead guy about what counted for that, he guessed, so Danny was flying to Chicago.
At least the skyline was pretty to look at as he approached.
Staying invisible, Danny flew into Sam and Val’s apartment from the outside wall. They were six floors up and in a nicer place than two college students should be able to afford. Living somewhere with the security of a front desk was one of the conditions Sam’s parents had for her going to Chicago for college. Sam had complained, but Danny didn’t think she minded as much as she claimed after hearing horror stories from friends about the state of some of the places they had lived.
Danny didn’t see Sam in the living room, but Val was in the kitchen. He floated silently up behind her.
“Boo.”
“I still can and will end you, ghost boy,” she said.
Danny sighed and shimmered into existence. “You’re no fun, Val.”
“You used to think I was plenty fun.”
“Ah to be young and stupid,” Danny said, then had to dodge a punch with a laugh. He floated up to sit cross legged on the ceiling. “Hey! I’m just saying we are both better off not dating each other.”
“I’ll wait until after the interrogation to decide on how good your current situation is or not.”
Danny groaned. “Ancients, how bad is Sam planning to be?”
Val just gave him a look and popped a piece of the bell pepper she had been cutting up into her mouth.
“Okay, yeah. I sorta expected that,” Danny said in defeat and drifted morosely down from the ceiling.
“She’s buying ice cream though,” Val said after Danny had settled into a ghostly puddle. “So if you behave it might just turn into girl talk.”
Danny squinted up at the ceiling. “Real ice cream or vegan ice cream?”
“Both.”
So there was hope then.
Sam arrived with a bang of the door about fifteen minutes later. “Val! I found something scrungly on the street.”
“Hey!” Tucker protested as he followed her inside carrying most of the groceries.
“I found something scrunglier,” Val said, pointing to where Danny was lounging on one of the couches, back to his human form.
“I’ll own that.”
“You!”
“Me,” Danny confirmed with a sigh.
“You owe us so many explanations, Danny,” Sam said, setting bags down in the kitchen.
“Like how did you meet him?”
“So—”
“And when did you know he was a halfa?”
“I mean—”
“And how long have you been dating?”
“Our first—”
“And—”
“Sam! Ancients! You have to let me actually answer if you want answers!” Danny explained.
She stepped out of the kitchen to glare at him, arms crossed. “Fine, come help get snacks and then you are talking.”
“Sure sure sure.”
-
Talking took all night. The only thing, really, that Danny managed to keep from them were Jason’s last name, that he was a vigilante, and how he died (and was revived). The last one was easy, they knew better than to ask, and the first Danny was able to convince Sam it would just distract Tucker. He promised he’d let them have a video call with Jason tomorrow and they could learn his full name then.
But the chase with Johnny, the presents, Jason’s confusion; Danny went into it all. He explained helping Jason through the ectoshots and Jason genuinely becoming his friend. He admitted how early he was crushing on the other, but thought he had no chance because Jason was handsome and smart and so kind. He talked about how warm he felt having that kindness directed at him. And then the date! And the date that he planned… he sounded completely gone, he knew that, but he was.
Luckily how gone he was seemed to sooth a lot of Sam’s anger at not being told for so long. It all went better than Danny expected, and it was good to have his best friends finally know.
None of that made him any less nervous for the video call. He set up his laptop, ignored Tucker’s ‘dude, you still have that thing?’, and pressed call. He had sent Jason a warning text before calling, so it wasn’t long before Jason picked up. He must be on his tablet. It looked liked Jason had actually taken some time to figure out where to sit that would have decent lighting and frame his apartment well. The effort was actually really sweet.
“Jason, everyone. Everyone, Jason,” Danny said, motioning at the screen.
There was a pause and then Sam grabbed a throw pillow and just started wailing on Danny with it.
“Danny!”
“Ow!”
“A Wayne?!”
“Wait, what?” Tucker asked, pulling out his phone. “Wayne as in Wayne Enterprises Wayne?”
“A Wayne, Danny!” Sam landed a particularly vicious hit.
“Sam!”
“You could stop this, you know,” Val said to the screen.
“You know, I don’t really know if I could,” Jason, the not so little shit that he was, said with a grin.
Tucker looked from his phone to the screen and back down again. “Ancients, he’s a Wayne.”
Sam landed one last hit before she took a breath, pushed back her now wild hair, and looked to the screen. “Hi, I like your father’s move to zero impact manufacturing, even if tree credits are mostly a scam and he could do more.”
“Thanks?” Jason said with a bemused sort of smile. “That’s really Tim’s area, I work with the Foundation, not Enterprises.”
Tucker sighed, “You couldn’t be dating Tim instead?”
“He just wants to cuddle the new Wayne phone,” Danny explained after spitting out a feather.
“Got it. What’s your critique?” Jason asked Val.
“Oh, I’m his ex, I just enjoy watching the chaos,” she said, hooking a thumb at Danny.
Jason nodded sagely. “Valid.”
“So,” Danny said, drawing the word out. “As you have guessed, Jason Todd Wayne. Jason, this is Sam, Val, and Tucker.”
“Wait!” Sam interrupted. “If you’re, and you’re, that means then— shit, you really died, huh?”
“Yeah, well,” Jason said with a little shrug and a crooked, slightly somber smile. “The real surprise is actually that I’m less re-alive than I thought.”
“Yeah… Danny told us that you didn’t know you were a halfa. Sorry dude, that sucks,” Tucker said seriously before he brightened and flung an arm around Danny’s shoulder. “But like, the best guy I know is a halfa so you’re in good company! Mostly. The fruit loop is the worst but Dani is great! So you know, three for four is pretty good.”
“I’ve had much worse odds before,” Jason said honestly. “Besides, Danny has been helping me figure it all out. I’d be doing a lot worse without his help. Hell, I was doing a lot worse.”
“Danny said something about corrupted ecto? Sounds nasty dude. Glad that’s clearing up for you.”
“Thanks to Danny and Frostbite,” Jason said, he didn’t exactly shift in his seat, but Danny could tell the question made him a little tense. “It’s not all settled yet, but it’s a lot better and we’ll keep working on it.”
“And what do you do for work?” Sam asked.
“Wow, Sam, could you be any more obvious with that segway?” Danny asked, twisting to look at her incredulously.
“I work for the Martha Wayne Foundation. I do a lot with low income housing in Crime Alley, but also addiction rehabilitation. Literacy is a new project I’m pushing on,” Jason said like the question didn’t bother him. “I might go back to school so that I can do more for it.”
“That’s what you want to do or just what you’re doing?”
“You knew who I was on sight, so I figure you know my story,” Jason said, his tone finally hardening some. “I got lucky, not everyone has that chance. This is a way I can give help back. I still live in Crime Alley and I’m going to make sure that when I die, for good, that it’s a better place than it was when I was born.”
“See? He want’s to do good Sam, just like you, despite having money,” Danny said pointedly.
She looked like she might argue for a moment before she just huffed out an annoyed breath.
“Look, I bet you think I can’t say anything that would actually threaten you—”
Jason raised his hands. “I always respect the capabilities of a determined woman.”
Sam actually paused at that before she gathered up her scowl again. “But I have befriended something as close to a god as you will ever meet, and if you hurt Danny in any malicious way, I will sic Undergrowth on you and no one will ever find your body because it will be decomposing into fertilizer in the Infinite Realms.”
“Got it,” Jason said. “Do you want to meet Pamela Isley sometime? I think the two of you would get along.”
“Pamela Isley as in…”
“Yep. Her wife is my therapist.”
Sam turned to Danny. “Danny, I approve of your boyfriend, even if he’s a Wayne. Val, we’re going to Gotham for spring break.”
Danny covered his laugh at how quickly Jason figured a way into Sam’s good graces, not that Danny minded in the least. He’d take this weekend going well.
-
“Danny?
“Hum? Sorry?” Danny made himself drag his attention away from his phone and up to his friends. It seemed like Jason had missed Danny as much as Danny missed him by all the messages he’d gotten the last few days. There hadn’t even been time to see each other before the week started and now it was already Thursday.
By the expressions the others had, he figured he looked absolutely besotted. Well, damn.
“Do you want to head over to It’s a Grind with us to study for the test?” Cloe asked.
“Oh, I would, but my boyfriend got done with his stuff early, so he’s here to pick me up,” Danny explained with a little wave of his phone.
“That does explain the look on your face,” Fara said with a laugh before she sang, “Danny and what’s his name sitting in a tree.”
José rolled his eyes. “Dios mío, Fara, how are you so bad with names? It’s Jason. Danny only mentions him all the time.”
“Hey!” Danny and Fara said at the same time.
“A, Fara, you are, you still don’t know our econ prof’s name and we started our final project today.”
“I do too!” Fara protested with a pout. “It’s… ah… Barry!”
“Baramore, Fara, it’s Baramore.”
“I was close,” she said, tossing a fold of her hijab like it was her hair and she was a cliché valley girl.
José rounded on Danny. “And two—”
“Shouldn’t it be B?”
“And two!” José repeated more firmly, “Danny, you really do mention Jason a lot. Not in a bad way, but you were so gone for the guy even before you started dating that we had bets.”
“We did,” Cloe confirmed. “I won, of course.”
“Of course you did. Why do I always make friends like this?” Danny asked with a sigh.
“Because you only attract the best,” Fara said with a wink and finger guns.
Danny barked a laugh at that. “Sure. But anyways, I have to go, but I will totally catch you another day to study, it sounds like this test will be a beast.”
“Sure, I’ll message you about some time, but start studying before it since you’re missing today,” Cloe ordered.
“Yeah, yeah, I’ll study,” Danny said, walking backwards away from the group.
As he turned and slid through a gap of the throng of people gathered outside of the science building, he caught the end of Fara exclaiming, “who I think it is?”
He supposed the cat was out of the bag here too, and for a lot more people. Everyone was staring (and trying really hard to make it seem like they weren’t staring) at the motorcycle parked by the curb. Or, more likely, they were staring at the man leaning against it.
Danny had no qualms taking a moment to stare himself. Jason looked great in tight, black wash jeans and a black and red leather jacket over a grey button up. Ancients it was good to see him again, text and calls just weren’t the same.
“Hey dead boy!” Danny called out. Heads swiveled to him with shocked gasps, but Danny only had eyes for Jason and the smile that lit up his face.
“Hey, fish.” Jason tucked his phone in his back pocked and leaned back in a way that let his legs fall a little more open.
Danny didn’t hesitate to slip in between them and tug Jason into a kiss by his jacket. He gave a pleased hum as Jason’s large hands settled on his hips, rubbing little circles there.
“Good surprise?” Jason asked. He exuded swagger and confidence, but Danny knew Jason well enough now to see the nerves behind the smirk.
Hoping to soothe the worry, Danny kissed Jason again. “Great surprise.”
Some of the well hidden tension bled out of Jason’s shoulders. Still, he apologized, “I think people might have recognized me.”
“Ya think?” Danny asked with a laugh. “As cool as your bike is, I’m pretty sure it’s you that drew this crowd. I don’t mind though.”
“Really?”
“Really. Now stop worrying, dead boy, I’m starving and your text promised food.”
“Oh, I see how it is, you’re just using me for food,” Jason grumbled and shoved Danny playfully away.
Danny let himself stumble back with a laugh and caught the helmet that was tossed his way. “Come on, Jason, feed your starving college boy.”
“And what does my starving college boy want?” Jason asked before he tugged on his own helmet and swung one leg over his bike.
“Hum, other than you?” Danny teased once his helmet was on, knowing only Jason could hear him now. His words were rewarded with a snort of amusement. “Let’s go to that great Greek place.”
“Your wish is my command.”
“Now if I had known that,” Danny said with a laugh. He settled behind Jason, pressing close and resting a hand on Jason’s hip. As they pulled away he gave a cheeky little wave to his friends who had come to gawk with the rest of the students.
Looked like he’d have more yelling over text messages to answer. Oh well, the reward of speeding down the streets of Gotham with Jason was worth it.

Sooooo.....
Like? We can all agree, that, all other factors aside? Given the life he's lived and the personality he has? The sheer NONSENSE he's been exposed too (from rays to oozes to powders to magics etc) AND the by definition unfinishable nature of his Life's Work/Obsession?
If Batman lived in a world connected to Danny Phantom's Zone in any way... he's DEFINITELY becoming a Realms Ghost.
Like? It's not even a "possibly" here. It's an inevitability. He HAS to protect just one more person. HAS to solve one more case. HAS to protect his kids one last time. He HAS Too, HAS Too, HAS Too.
He's Batman.
It's etched into his soul. The man's ghost will literally REFORM in that outfit. Batman with a glow. Batman the protection spirit. Kindness and grief and an eternity of "I have to save just one more."
He's not going to get to die peacefully or rest quietly. It would go against his nature.
But! Why is this relevant? Because of the Elseworld stories. Those AUs. The Multi-Verse at large. They ALL... Have Batman.
Consider: Ember McClain. Rocker. Remember that name. Yes, in some worlds she makes it big. But? Tragedy and betrayal in others. Death. Do you think the Ember's of those worlds are fine with passing on silently? Shrugging and being forgotten just because some other Ember got there first?
No. They are Ember. SHE is Ember.
Just as Clockwork is Time.
What makes a Realms Ghost different then someone like Deadman? Than a Shade? A poltergeist? Your average spook?
They are only themselves.
Singular.
Small.
A tiny little fraction, of a fraction, of a part, of a small bitty droplet, if even that. You only get one soul. But! You share it. There are many "You"s. Like the universe itself, exploding out, to live, to experience, BE, and then collapsing back together in the end. Running together like rainwater in the cracks of Realitys. Seeping back into one piece, one person, in the place between places.
It's why one forgets silly things like Names and Pasts. You had so, so many. All of them were yours. Made you. Shaped you. But are not why you refuse to let go. Why you still EXSIST. Outside of Creation and Rebirth, beyond any gods you could possibly recognize. Refined to your truest SELF.
Yet... you might still be Alive. You know that you ARE. Time exists for the living. To balance beginnings, middles, and ends. Why do you care? They aren't you yet. They will be. All of you will eventually come together. You'll become something... MORE.
Ancient.
The wisdom and complexity of a complete Being. More a Person then your average soul. Like giant stars compared to a barely burning dwarves. You know, assuming you don't give up first. Most give up. It takes a certain sort of patience, after all. A LOT of timeless time. Kinda sucks.
Yet! We consider The Bat. Persistence and Stubborn Hope made manifest. Compassion born of terrible grief. Dead. Again and again and again. Dead for those who needed him. Who hated him. Who cursed or forgot or lamented him. In every imaginable age, a story played out the same. Ending the same.
Himself instead of another.
Himself FOR the others.
Himself because none other could.
Sacrifice and Sacrifice and Sacrifice. Desperation to save. Worlds burning and cities falling. Waking up, reaching out, to shield sons and daughters that are not there. That live because he does not. Dragging himself through the stubborn walls of world after world, like a haunting final curse, upon those who harmed his family, his city. His world.
A wraith. Gothams final curse upon those who damn her.
What must it be like? To keep saying good bye? To drag your aching soul, fuller and fuller of terrible memories, across the fields of jagged glass that are portals you tear, to world's on fire. Just to save friends and family. Enemies and strangers. All of whom, must in the end... bury you anyway.
Because you must kill the hope in their eyes. Must die before them again. Because you can not stay and they can not come with you. Or worse... they can, and will soon.
Sitting on fields of battle where you tried. Gave all your spirit could muster. But... it's over now. And all you can offer is the knowledge is that they should not be afraid. You will carry them home.
And are there? Nightwings and Robins and all manner of other family, waiting back in the Zone? In a Manor where Pennyworth lives eternal? Do they also hurt and fight to save their friends? Each new piece of them coming with some great tragedy that they must put right?
Do they give Walker and the Observants migraines? Probably.
Imagine, though: Time travel added to the mix. Dying in the future. Your son managing to turn everything back to before the world ended. The Ghost King is suddenly a Baby again. Every one is freaking out. "Oh no! The king!" Blah blah blah.
But you and your family are more concerned about the world ending threat that kills a part of you. So is the baby ghost king, when you tell him. You show up in your own Cave, freak yourself out. Team up time. Though you ARE growing concerned by the Baby Kings self-neglectful behaviors. Hey, Me, are you seeing this?
.......he.... you know, he COULD use more Parental Oversight. He's a good kid. Seems lonely though. Underfed. ("BRUCE, NO." "Hmmm.")

thots about tommy wayne under the cut 👇🏾😚👍🏾
ok so in my head he's not from gotham lol (my guy is east coast mean, which is pretty mean, but not gotham mean which translates to being the sweetest guy on earth once you’re within the city limits). he's the illegitimate and son of patrick wayne and his daddy wouldn't claim him bc the affair/one-night-stand/whatever-you-wanna-call-it happened while he was very much married (fuck this guy fr!) and his wife was very much pregnant (oh brother this guy STINKS!!!). anywayyyy elizabeth mitchell isn’t stupid and knows a fight she can't win when she sees one so she leaves gotham for new york when the test comes back positive and patrick won’t pick up her calls.
and things are going good! she's made a little name for herself as a local nightclub singer and she's got a job waiting tables during the day that makes good money and sure things were a little touch and go for a while and sure there were times where she was sure that they weren't gonna make it but she got her baby through school (he graduated valedictorian btw) and now he's in the first year of his pre med undergraduate degree at the local university on a full scholarship (her parenting HER parenting).
so imagine her surprise when the billionaire deadbeat of the hour shows up on her doorstep one day talking about family duty and lines of succession.
patrick amadeus wayne jr. is dead. dead dead dead. and while it wasn't really a surprise to anyone with eyes (weak lungs can only take so many wet gotham winters and the tabloids were saying that the cough he sported at the latest gala sounded particularly nasty), he was by all appearances an only child (francesca wayne could barely get pj out let alone carry another baby to term) and the waynes were fumbling for someone to take his place before the body was even cold.
the transition is as rough as you would expect, what with the stony silences from his father’s wife (stepmother? who knows, not that either of them would ever acknowledge the relation) whenever they cross paths in the manor (francesca wayne never makes an outside appearance in gotham society again after the passing of her son. she enters a period of seclusion and never emerges, spending her days wandering the halls in mourning blacks and lighting candles in prayer), and sometimes being called patrick or pj by the gotham upper class (intentionally or not. though he suspects intentionally because his mother’s side of the family got the monopoly on his looks). it’s very obvious that he doesn’t fit in but hey, free college is free college and his mama is gonna be set for life if he can just see this through.
of course the whole thing doesn’t go over well (a long lost father suddenly appearing on your doorstep and claiming you only because his other kid died would put most people off to be completely fair) but after some yelling and screaming and haggling, compromises are made. in exchange for thomas moving to gotham and being prepped to take over as head of wayne enterprises, his mother is also to be put up in a fancy brownstone on the upper east side and given enough in allowance (in addition to the 18 years of child support she never got) so that she never has to work again and thomas is to be allowed to continue his studies, graduate medical school (in gotham and not at john hopkins like he planned. rip it was literally his dream school), and become a doctor (i like to think becoming a doctor was solely a thomas wayne endeavor. all the wayne men before him were men of business and trade but tommy has wanted to help people his entire life and he’ll be damned if he lets his father keep him from following his dreams). there’s a handshake and signatures signed on a drawn-up contract (because patrick wayne doesn’t do anything by halves and of course he brought the family lawyer to meet his son after 19 years of pretending he didn’t exist) and thomas goes from a two-bedroom apartment in hell’s kitchen to a bedroom the same size (and then some) right outside of gotham city.
and he does see it through, very well in fact! thomas wayne graduates top of his class in undergrad at gotham university as well as in medical school, is granted a residency at gotham general, and eventually becomes the head of surgery. Along the way, he meets a girl named martha, gets married, and has a beautiful baby boy named bruce (after his maternal grandfather ofc) and the rest is history!

I'm thinking about the post-Cataclysm rebuild of Gotham again. And in particular, I'm thinking about the fact that even to today, we should probably still see scars on the city from it, and that the rebuild would still have been underway as of Flashpoint.
Why?
I was in Christchurch last January, on holidays and visiting friends. It is now 13 years since the Christchurch Earthquake.
The Christchurch Cathedral reconstruction is still underway. You still see vacant blocks. There are stacks of shipping containers still braced to building walls in some places to reinforce the structure while repairs continue. There are buildings held up by scaffolding that can't be torn down for heritage reasons, that wait as they try to decide what repairs are feasible.
The skyline has never recovered (and this was a minor controversy the other week when someone insulted it as insufficiently highrise).
It's a living city, with its own culture, but you walk into it as an outsider and some of the scars are immediately obvious, and others still live in the memories of those who know what was lost.
What's that got to do with Gotham?
Gotham's an even bigger city. Even with Wayne and Luthor money pouring into the rebuild, three years down the track they would still be remediating things. Is there a fight over rebuilding in heritage designs v modern? What parts of the city are lower priority for the rebuild? Are there jagged gaps still where buildings had to be torn down? Fights over how to rebuild the bridges? Did they repair the blown up ones or build a new one beside the existing bridge? Is that site by the opera house still empty, or turned into a park as the city thinks about what to do with it? Has the trendy parts of the city migrated along with the rebuild to a more open area that was levelled, where new housing and shops can go in and younger people flock to the trendy cafes?
Is the reason Burnley (shhh) develops as a tech hub nobody had heard of previously because of city flight to the mainland after Cataclysm and it was easier to build a new suburban hub from the city rather than retrofit in around all of the inner city construction? Was Burnley originally a university town/suburb that rapidly densified following Cataclysm as so many people moved out there as they didn't want to go too far?
Does Dick still occasionally mentally plot routes through the city by rooftop that rely on buildings long gone? Did they straighten roads during the rebuild? Was there more public transport built during the repairs, or was it abandoned and stripped out?

Jason Todd relationship HCs
Let's make one thing clear, dating anyone in the vigilante business is bound to be chaos. It doesn't help that you're just a civilian, with absolutely no training in the medical field, because now you have to take care of a full grown man that doesn't give two shits about his own health.
Seriously, he doesn't care.
But anyways
Jason Todd isn't the best partner to ever exist. To be honest you only see him in the day time, and even then he is probably napping or trying to solve a case.
But that doesn't mean he doesn't try when it comes to you, because he does. He knows he can't and will never be the perfect partner because of his nightly activities, but he would be damned if he didn't atleast try.
My man here is a lover of romance. He loves the idea of having someone that he can rely on, and fight for.
He absolutely does take ideas from the books he reads, and it's the most heartwarming thing to ever exist.
And I know you guys are probably thinking of him showing up at your apartment with flowers, but that isn't what I'm talking about.
No, this man would go the extra mile and write you love poems and leave them at your workplace or apartment. He will set up a whole picnic outside the city, and take you on his motorcycle and spend the rest of the afternoon in the woods reading to you as you lay on him.
He would set up a candle lit dinner, the dinner in question is probably fast food, but the set up? It looks like something from out of a movie. Besides fast food is always better than a fancy meal that hardly tastes like anything.
Of course these aren't regular occurrences, besides the love poems which are daily, they usually happen on special occasions or after a close call with death.
Jason isn't the best at communicating his feelings and his past. I think he definitely tries but after everything that has happened to him it's extremely hard.
It's even harder for him to trust someone, and let down his walls for them. That includes his partner too.
It takes a long time for Jason to fully open up to you, and you get that. You have repeatedly told him, that you were fine with not knowing many things regarding his nightly activities.
But of course he has told you what you need to know, but the things like his death and his relationship with Bruce and the family is something that takes time for him to talk about.
Speaking of Bruce and the others.
They do know about you, and have at least met you a few times but depending on where Jason is mentally and stuff I do not see you being best friends with them
Of course it's probably been a year or more of you dating Jason for him to even talk about Bruce.
I don't think Jason would ever take you to the mansion, and you would never go unless you told Jason before and he was comfortable with it.
His family isn't the healthiest one, and Jason doesn't want them budding in his personal life because honestly he doesn't care for them.
Well I mean he obviously cares for them, but ever since his death and resurrection he doesn't want anything to do with them.
He's happy just working with them from time to time on missions and stuff
To be honest it's probably not until years after you get into a relationship with Jason, that you actually gain a solid connection with some of his 'siblings'.
They just all know you exist, and respect you, and quite honestly are happy that Jason found someone that wants to love him and help him through everything.
Jason would definitely get a dog or cat for you and him to care for. The furbaby lives in your apartment, and Jason sees it as another reason why he should just sleep at your place instead of the dingy safehouse he calls home.
Yes, he does live in a safehouse in Gotham. It's probably a Warehouse he bought when he first came back to Gotham city to kill Joker.
The little animal adores Jason, and you have so many photos of Jason passed out on the couch with the dog/cat laying on him
Jason doesn't want you getting involved in his nightly activities, and would never purposely get you involved either.
Whenever he is out on patrol, he stays far away from your apartment unless he's working on a case that is close to where you live.
I even think he would go to his safehouse and take off his suit and then go to your apartment after patrol so that nobody would see red hood going to your apartment
He takes your safety extremely seriously.
You are the one thing in his life that he loves, and he doesn't want you to have to go through anything traumatic just because you're in a relationship with him.
That being said you do live in Gotham city, so you are bound to get into at least some trouble.
Either it's getting mugged, or being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
When that does happen and he swoops in to save you, he would pretend that he doesn't know you.
He's talked to you about it before and you both agreed that it would be safer for you if he just pretends he doesn't know you if he ends up seeing you when he is the Red Hood
He definitely forces you to learn at least some self defence, whether it be from a class, or him teaching you.
Jason always tells you before he leaves Gotham to do Red Hood related things, he even would text you when a case is taking up most of his time so that you don't think he is ignoring you.
He doesn't want there to be any misunderstandings.
I don't see him really being the clingy type of person, I mean of course he does love cuddling with you but he would never go out of his way to give you affection.
Touch is something he has a weird relationship with since Bruce raised him to be anything but affectionate and cuddly.
He loves cuddling with you, but it's not a daily occurrence that he goes to your apartment and drags you to the couch or bedroom. That only happens after he has a confrontation with Bruce and needs some tender loving care.
He does have nicknames for you
For example: sweetheart, babe, and honey
They aren't overly cheesy or romantic, they are just nicknames he thinks fit you
The relationship you have with Jason Todd may not be the most normal, but you do not care and neither does he.
You love each other, and that's all that really matters.
An: I love him your honor

i have a good one, this is really far fetched but. yandere parents bruce and dinaa where they have a son together, due to neglect of both parents the boy is basically raised by alfred, but the thing is, the son is at the same time ridiculously overpowered and a reincarnator, that upon his death, got back to when he was about 10 now knowing that his quest for parental love is a lost cause, he just says fuck it, drop them and just starts treating alfred as his reals dad.
Broken Truth: So, a reincarnated son of Bruce and Diana who treats Alfred as his father instead of them. Okay, I can weave those words.
The 10-year-old boy looked at the dark ceiling in his room as the rain hit the window from the storm going on outside; normally, the rain would soothe him and help him get some sleep but his mind was everywhere right now. So many things and so little time...well, that was the case for the life he once lived before he was reincarnated into his present body - The Heir of Two Factions.
On his maternal side, he had warrior's blood in his veins, the essence of a proud people that hated his gender, thus his mother sent him here to live with his father, completely ignoring the boy's existence. His mother was Diana Prince - also known as Wonder Woman - The Heiress of Themyscira, the island of the Amazons.
As for his father, he wasn't any better at taking care of his son...well, maybe he cared for the boy's older brothers but that was all. The Dark Knight of Gotham City and the Richest Bachelor of said city - The Batman - also known as Bruce Wayne.
[Name] growled to himself at the thought of his parents before throwing the blanket off his body and getting out of bed. He marched to the door and opened it before leaving the room and marching down the hallway, to the stairs, and down them.
'I need something to drink. My blood is getting too hot.' [Name] growled in his mind - the last time his blood was this hot was on a battlefield in his past life. He walked into the kitchen where the light was on and the Family Butler was standing there with a cup of coffee and a newspaper.
"Young Master, what are you doing up? It's past your bedtime." Alfred said as he closed the newspaper.
"Sorry, Alfred, I just wanted something to drink; my blood feels like it's boiling right now." [Name] said as he walked over to the butler with a tired look. Without words, Alfred rose from his seat and walked over to the fridge with an empty glass and began to pour some apple juice - the young master's favorite - before handing the glass to the boy who smiled at him and started drinking the glass's contents before the butler, who smiled at this before offering the boy to sit beside him.
"Now, tell me, Young Master, what has your blood boiling at this time of night? Are the memories of your past life bothering you again?" Alfred asked with a raised eyebrow. Yes, [Name] told Alfred about his past life and the butler believed him - he knew things that no child should know if not living those memories again.
"Yes, once again, I find myself plagued by my past life's choices because I'm living through them again - trying to get my mother and father to love me...but nothing is working." [Name] exhaled as he looked down at his drink as Alfred placed a hand on the boy's shoulder.
"I am aware of your strife, Young Master, but sometimes some battles aren't worth fighting because it's a waste of our time; I don't think Mast Bruce would notice you as his son because he has others, and Diana's people aren't fond of men. Please, live your life and forget about Master Bruce or Lady Diana." Alfred said as he smiled at the boy who suddenly hugged him, "Master [Name]?"
"Screw them. I don't care about them anymore. You can be my dad, Alfred, at least you care about me." [Name] said as he snuggled in Alfred's stomach with a smile on his face. The butler smiled and rubbed the boy's back and hugged him.
"It would be my honor, son."

If he gave up Zaun he could be with Jinx, and potentially steer her toward fully accepting her identity as ‘Jinx’, but he would be walking around with a huge target on his back as a traitor, and at his age he is not as able as Jinx is. If he wanted both of them to be safe, they would have to leave Zaun and Piltover altogether in self-exile, which I’m certain would be a form of death and defeat for Silco.
If he remained while rebuffing the deal, he would be a constant target for assassination by both Piltover and Sevika. Sevika and the chembarons would throw Silco out of power and try to wage war with him over control of Zaun to get the resistance back on track, which would mean a power struggle that Silco knows he could never win. He has nothing to offer people, because he threw away the very thing that had made him amass such a following: his dream.
And if he were to be killed in this gang war by Sevika or a chembaron, he would be leaving Jinx alone in the world. He’d been doing his utmost to sever that emotional connection to Vi while acting as her guardian, and he was 90% of the way there by Act 2. His death would leave Jinx worse off in death; she could very well become blinded by grief and burn the whole city to the ground since in her mind it would be “Zaun that took him away from her”. Part 2 and 3 demonstrated that while Jinx doesn’t like Piltover or Enforcers, she doesn’t care very much for Silco’s plans of an independent Zaun, either. It’s not something she’s particularly interested in. She’s very much about ‘doing whatever, whenever since the world doesn’t care about her existence, so why should she play by society’s rules?’ Without Silco to ground her and pointing her toward a goal, she’d be doing whatever, whenever, to whomever with little distinction between Zaun and Piltover.
If he sold out Jinx, he would get what he always dreamed of, what he was nearly murdered over and killed his brother in turn for, but in doing so he would be giving up on the one enduring principle he held, which was loyalty to those he holds close. While he’s manipulative, ruthless, pragmatic, business-and-profit-minded, he wouldn’t have been able to swallow down his conscience of creating an independent city on the back of a betrayal. It went against the sort of Zaun he wanted to create: A den of thieves and unscrupulous businessmen, but a haven that would close ranks to protect each other from outsiders. It would kill a part of him. Not to mention he would lose someone he holds very close. A daughter, a protege, a tool, whatever you think he sees Jinx as..
Jinx’s decision to aim Fishbones at Piltover was as much fulfilling a personal vendetta as it was honoring Silco’s memory by enacting his original violent plan.
Zaun in all of its terrible, Gotham-like glory only exists because of Piltover, and deep down, that is something I think Jinx wholeheartedly believes, even if she barely speaks two words about politics throughout the entire show. Everything leading up to Jinx being Jinx, she can trace back to Piltover allowing Zaun to crumble into a slum, for the exploitation and disparity being so great that it demanded a resistance that eventually tore two brothers apart, and whose violent oppression led to the deaths of her parents. Piltover not only orphaned her, but led to the creation of the vengeful man who would go on to kill her adopted father + family (even if Powder was the one who accidentally killed them, Silco most certainly was planning on doing it anyway), ensnared her long-lost elder sister with an Enforcer, and THEN threatened to take her second adopted father away from her by offering him a trade: her life for his dream. Piltover stole everything from her and kept on taking, even demanding that Silco choose between preserving his life or hers. A cruel ultimatum presented by Piltover to once again fuck her over in some way.
Jinx being the one who killed Silco was ironic for the obvious reasons, but because she was the one to kill him instead of Sevika a chembaron, Vi, or even Ekko, Zaun is (relatively) safe from her potentially going all scorch-earth on the place out of grief. She would not associate Zaun with loss or theft of her happiness, and Silco’s dream for a prosperous Zaun is safe, because even though the Council was voting for Zaun to be allotted independence, none of that would matter if the canyon ended up as burning metal.
Jinx’s decision to aim Fishbones at the Piltover council was as much fulfilling a personal vendetta as it was honoring Silco’s original plan. Silco’s original strategy wasn’t to win a decisive victory over Piltover, but to make Piltover hurt, to inflict vindictive, vengeful pain so it would respect and fear Zaun as an entity that wasn’t going to be treated as something to be tormented and exploited without repaying with injury. And in aiming Fishbones at Piltover, Jinx was that sentiment embodied at its absolute zenith. In a way, I think Silco initially groomed (not that way) her to internalize and cultivate those feelings because he saw in her a wounded creature that had the potential to become something dangerous and deadly, fueled by the indignity and resentment of wrongful hurt (‘the monster inside all of us’), but she had not yet harnessed not channeled those feelings to their full capacity until Episode 9. Powder was always in the way, or else her insecure attachment that made her doubt her own wantedness. The Shimmer helped to unlock that primal, violent part of her, but it also exacerbated her mental illness and unpredictability.
This is all conjecture, of course, but Jinx doesn’t strike me as someone who wouldn’t say ‘Burn it all’ to the people who took Silco from her, even if she was grappling with a phobic fear of abandonment pitted against the instinct to cut him out of her heart to avoid the pain that his potential betrayal/abandonment would cause her.

whyyyy do whiny delusional stans keep trying to argue in my anon box, nobody cares about what you tell yourself to sleep at night, how badly you choose to misunderstand someone, et cetera. nobody cares about your opinion carol. not those of us operating in the real world. I'm very sorry you attached your personal identity to a fictional stan narrative but that is a personal problem.
What you seem angriest about, though, is realizing that whatever has changed has put you so beneath me, this is all you've gotten from me since January. Since 2po loves January so much. And then most distinctly since the start of March to the point I've nearly vanished into the aether.
Sure whatever believe what you want lmfao fuck all nobody cares susan currently horny furries are more important to me than your disassociative arguments so take some time to unpack your realistic place in the world and that it does not orbit around your interests or beliefs. Or anyone particularly caring if you're breathing much less opinioning or what those opinions are, karen.
seriously there's some major perspective based psychotherapy that needs done with you lot. I just got a fuckin anon "U SAY UR NOT AN SPN STAN BUT ALL YOU TALK ABOUT IS SPN" [scrolls wall] horny furries, horny furries, fantasy land, GMing, WGA, WGA, WGA, Gotham Knights, video games, kpop, beyonce, all CW tweets, music videos conveniently posted right before those tweets that match them or even in regards to ongoing messaging on almost every social
("Lets Get It", Light It Up/Set the World On Fire/Spell to Burn/Burn It Down/Coming In Hot/3 2 1 BOOM, We're Getting Out, Where Did He Go, We Are The Warriors That Built This Town, Breaking In To Break Out, City Is At War, Revenge, The Hidden Cult, Howdy Business Partner, Keep Your Enemies Closer, This Isn't Walker's Fight Anymore, Nobody Expected This, Never Stop Me Zaddy Dent just turned around and said Don't Stop five minutes later THATS WEIRD, Some People Claim To Be Healers Some Actually Are, Let Go Of The Past, et al and so on ad nauseam),
industry events, paramount, CBS, multiple networks, oh there it is, there's the one SPN post I've been reblogging.
Dude. What you're experiencing is psychosis. By definition. You cannot perceive the world outside of your hyperfixation and determine it is fake and does not exist. You are actually only defining yourself. You can not perceive the underdark roleplay friends talking, you can't perceive other networks, studios, or industry events in discussion. You DEFINITELY won't let yourself fuckin' perceive the song vs CW tweets thing. It is all you understand and talk about, and because you refuse to perceive anything else, you tell yourself your behavior is normal, and scream at others that they must be the same as you.
Get a therapist. You are kings and queens of fictional landscapes in your own head you project onto social media spaces about TV shows. Get out of the way. The real royals are busy GMing for horny furries between shots you don't comprehend. But whether or not you comprehend it, you're the punch lines of the communal joke anyway. It's funny to us, whether or not you get it or how offended or opinionated you get about it.

i know you’ve talked a bit about your own version of events that diverge primarily concerning damian’s origin (if i recall correctly) but i’m interested in how you would handle tim? would he still be robin, what would his arc look like, do you think he should’ve been robin at all ? (just cause i know some people believe he shouldn’t in canon)
i actually really enjoy tim's introduction as robin bc (next to jason) it's the perfect example of how ludicrous robin is as an entity. with dick while there's a day-to-day life he lives that we get to see in parallel in earlier comics, a lot of it is taken in jest. bruce and dick's adventures in the golden age and even parts of the silver age are mostly comical and there's little continuity to speak of so there aren't really any consequences to speak of until dick goes to college. with jason's run we only really get to see hard-hitting consequences once he dies, and most of his run prior to that is plot driven with very few moments spared to showcase what his civilian life is like (most of which can be attributed to mike w. barr). what i appreciate about tim's robin run (and what i imagine other people comparatively find mind-numbing and boring) is that it delves into all of minutiae of being a teenager and a vigilante at the same time. the bizarre sudden absences, the sleeplessness, the school situation, the danger, the rift with your parents because they don't know where you are or what you're doing, the pressures of keeping your identity secret from your peers when you're only a kid and you want to have relationships but you don't know how to maintain them. tim being an outsider to bruce's family is precisely what makes his robin run so striking and revelatory. unless it runs in the family (and even then there are problems) it's hard to be a kid vigilante. delusional almost. and this status quo is even more exaggerated for tim bc he happens to become robin at one of the worst period's in bruce's (and consequently gotham's) life. a thirteen-going-on-fifteen-year-old is led to believe he is one of the only pieces of duct tape holding all of this shit together to the point his activities merit his father moving them to an entirely different city for a while. it's crazy! and eventually, it is going to get to him! it literally did! and personally i think it should have stayed that way
tim became robin not as part of a long-form response to trauma (albeit the trauma of what happened to his parents obv factored into some things) but bc of his own misconceptions as to what gotham needed to survive. he was a child, acting like a child, thinking like a child, etc. and albeit along different parameters the same would apply to jason as well. robin was more like a temporary phase for either of them than it was necessarily as a central identity around which to develop themselves entirely (a la dick). it should not have been permanently in the cards, and while the concept of legacy within dc is certainly interesting, this is one area where the compounded history, imo, should have espoused every reason why not to continue the robin identity's existence. every question and concern posed at the onset of tim's transition into robin should have been resoundingly answered rather than forgotten and left to the wayside as he was plunged deeper and deeper into the abyss of vigilante violence and death. he was a kid! he had a misconception about his own place in the world. and little by little he realized that while he would always have an inclination towards saving others he wasn't sure that this was the way he wanted to go about his life. i'm not opposed to tim staying connected to bruce and everyone else, but i don't think he has to remain a vigilante to do that. in fact, that to me is one of the greatest crimes of modern batman canon in general: the idea that every relevant connection bruce maintains has to be a masked villain or hero of some kind. bruce used to be friends with socialites! reporters! doctors! and it's not to say he isn't still but they're certainly more severely peripheral than they used to be. every other major dc hero has a significant civilian cast but for some reason bruce's own collective either steadily dwindled or was recharacterized and manipulated into playing a part in the grand game (think vicki finding out bruce was batman and the whole blackmail and death shtick that happened after)
so. to address your first question. i do want tim to be involved in that time period in everyone's life, but i want him to be involved as tim. not robin. as someone coming to terms with what he's been through and what he can do going forward. kind of like a singular greek chorus if you will. an observer to the party who occasionally interjects with striking gravitas. someone who enters and exits the story at leisure. that guy over at the manor on a saturday while all hell breaks loose in the parlor (they've found damian, they know he exists, what are they going to do, what do they even say). that guy committed to his new life as a boring and ordinary teenager with a video game addiction but also a perpetual itch to scratch who breaks his abstinence rule one night to stalk the red hood and ask what the hell, man? you know bruce still loves you more than anyone, right? while jason (bewildered, bereaved) tells him to buzz off before he puts a bullet through him (he never would). that guy who meets up with cissie the first friday of every month to talk about what it's like to live with this void where they feel like they're doing nothing even though they know the horrors of picking it all up again are worse. that guy who has to sit with this weird pit in his stomach while his girlfriend comes to terms with her own place in the world bc he knows now that he can't do it for her any more than bruce couldn't do it for him. that guy who still visits barbara in the watchtower and does homework while they trade jokes and jibes about whatever gotham's got going on and maybe sometimes he gives a stray opinion. that guy who has to convince his dad that there's nothing out of the ordinary happening to explain why suddenly he's always here, he's answering phone calls, he's showing up for dinner. that guy who finds his old corkboard with photographs and newspaper clippings and pushpins and red string and goes to the store the next day to buy a camera bc hey, maybe there's no reason to stalk batman anymore, but he still likes the feel of a camera in his hands and someone told him last week there's an internship for a junior photographer at the local newspaper with vicki vale. maybe this is how he helps. maybe this is how he feels useful without sacrificing so much of himself in the process

I'm probably bothering you a lot, feel free to not answer, just wanted to use the ask game you reblogged for some free real state information on Nash. How and why does Nash have the spirit of lust living in him? I have theories... But I feel I'm probably making up too crazy scenarios? I won't say what my theory is but... Does it have to do with whatever Narci did to him? (I've connected the dots, I haven't connected shit). Also, what happened with his father? Puzzles killed him right?
And How does Helix feel about detective? Can you tell us more about detective?
Detective is the start of everything. Detective is why any of them know each other. They would have all found out that there were multiple worlds eventually, but they might not have actually found each other. But because of their visions, Detective was the one who went out specifically trying to find other Riddlers and bring them together.
In the DC universe there exist these special places called Lazarus Pits: areas where natural chemical reactions basically create a concoction that can cure anything, even death. Kinda like the natural acid lakes in Java, except instead of acid, it's a health potion.
One of these exists far underneath Gotham City. They can be very dangerous places to get to, because they are jealously guarded by the minions of another villain. All of our Riddlers know about it, but only three have ever been down there, Detective being the first.
The stuff in the pit will cure anything, but It'll kill a healthy person. For those it heals, it confers an extended lifespan and restores youth, but it also bestows a temporary madness. In the Detective's case, it gave them visions, and made them look younger.
Despite this, Detective is one of the oldest Riddlers, having been born in 1970, and starting their criminal career at 29. Though they were a villain for almost 14 years, they were only responsible for 2 deaths (actually 3, but no one knows about the third one). They've simply always been a more even-handed person. They can and will hurt people if they feel like they have to, but personal violence is a last resort.
Detective was not always spiritual or mystical, but they did always believe that the mind could be expanded beyond its current confines, which led them to a successful career as a computer programmer, puzzle maker, and game designer, later breaking into internet infrastructure, virtual reality, and AI. And if they hadn't come across their predatory boss, everything would have been just fine!
But that's not what happened.
Detective has always been fairly obsessed with their appearance, to the point where they get distracted if they think there is something 'wrong' with how they look. They sometimes extend this to the people they are around, tidying hair, straightening lapels, brushing dust, giving advice. They are not touch adverse at all. Some of the others are fine with letting them fuss, but others (Puzzles, it's Puzzles) really don't like it. They try to do it anyway. It's a compulsion.
Their habit of mothering others also stems from this compulsion, a need to constantly be 'improving' everything about and around them. It's part of a complex set of protective behaviors they developed in their childhood.
Detective is the only Riddler for whom therapy was actually successful. Their feelings of being somehow 'wrong' or 'imperfect' lessened significantly once they came to the understanding that they weren't actually a man.
They don't lie. This is also a compulsion. However, they don't have to be completely honest either, and can twist words and omit information as they see fit. But they can't bring themselves to directly lie.
Detective and Helix actually get along really well! Even, and perhaps especially after she takes Narci in. Helix can't see visions like Detective, and Detective can't get outside the Nexus, like she can, so they both have plenty of things to talk about, that the others don't really share. She is also very willing to let them fuss over her.
Detective is partnered with Jervis Tetch, another reformed villain. they have been together for a long time now, and are very sweet.
Detective is medium height and thin, in a soft way rather than a bony way. They're pale, with a rosy undertone, with bright red-orange hair, and olive green eyes. They have no visible scars, and are a proficient makeup artist.
Once they gave up being the Riddler, they pivoted into being a private detective, unraveling riddles instead. They will still pose riddles to others, but only if asked, and there are never any stakes involved.
As with all Riddlers, Detectives father was a real piece of shit, and he was a piece of shit in a 1970's way, so you can understand why it took so long for Detective to come to realize their genderfluid status. Their mother was caring however, though she also suffered under her husbands awful behavior. The fate of Detective's parents is unknown.
Detective wants children, but being a felon, even a reformed one, means they are not allowed to adopt. Instead, they gathered a whole family of themselves.
As for Nash...that is such a long story that it's gonna need it's own post.

Having now seen it, I think the plot point of Diggle rejecting the Green Lantern ring makes sense. You can't have him do that and stay true to who this version of Diggle is (and if we're going off the flashforwards on Arrow, odds are him being Green Lantern would turn at least one of his kids evil).
But it still makes for a weird, fragmented story arc that goes nowhere and loops back around to exactly where we were before it was introduced.
Unless they used it to set up something else. Superman and Lois is now confirmed to be a different Earth. And they've already introduced their version of Diggle. If they brought him back and established that in the space between then and when we last saw him, he'd become Green Lantern it would fit nicely. The groundwork would already be laid for the idea of GL Diggle. It would make it feel like that scattered Earth Prime arc had a point in foreshadowing this, instead of just going in a circle.
And it would be good for Superman and Lois. With the end of Flash and the show not being in the main universe, currently there isn't anyone to bring in for a crossover or big guest appearance. So if the show established the existence of one or two of the other big 7 DC heroes, they could use that character to the same purpose. Green Lantern would be a good option because 1. he not only hasn't appeared in the Arrowverse yet, but he also hasn't been in DCEU (yes there's the HBO Max GL show in development but who knows what's happening with that. and even if that does come out soon, that doesn't inherently preclude a S&L Green Lantern and if they introduced him this season he would definitely still be FIRST). So he's really only competing with the Ryan Reynolds GL and that's not hard to beat. 2. Green Lantern fits pretty well with the type of stories they've been telling, so he can easily come and keep pace with Clark against weird alien world-ending threats and feel like he's a good choice for that (as opposed to say Batman. You CAN put Batman against extra-dimensional alien nonsense and have him hold his own but if this version of Batman doesn't exist outside of the guest appearance then that doesn't feel like a great use of Batman in my opinion). 3. He's easy to write out when you don't want him there. If there's a world-ending threat and Superman is dying oh no, and Flash is hanging out over in Central City, and Wonder Woman is chilling wherever she lives, then you wonder why they're not showing up to help. The quintessential problem of a shared universe. But Green Lantern is cosmic and therefore super easy to handwave away when you don't want him there. "oh he's out in space doing a thing." and the audience is like "yeah that sounds like a thing Green Lantern would do" and he can be gone like that most of the show but he can swoop back in whenever you want a big exciting "Look a character you recognize who isn't normally on this show" episode.
It would resolve the Diggle plotline. It would open the door to more Diggle stories. It would give Superman and Lois a fun big name character to have in their back pocket for guest appearances. And it would help keep Superman and Lois from stooping to crossing over with Gotham Knights.

STMPD Recommends Bubblegum Crisis Fanfiction: NGTM-R's Night Life
"Because when your leader has had her brain altered by outside forces, eventually someone must ask the awkward question: What exactly did it do to her?"
Night Life is incomplete; Night Life came into the world of BGC a decade or two too late; Night Life could be read as cop-aganda if you're feeling frisky; Night Life is more about an OC than it is the Sabers at least in its first half. Night Life is a masterpiece.
Let me clarify: Night Life is a masterpiece because, in its initial snippets, and then in longer, more roomier chapters, it makes us feel for the AD Police who aren't Leon and Daley. Which is... a tricky prospect. The ADP exist to die and make the Sabers look cool in the original series, essentially the Gotham PD but in Megatokyo. Leon's cool but he's also kind of a goofball (he has the voice of Ataru Moroboshi, seriously), less Cobra and more Beverly Hills Cop.
And then real-life context sinks in. America lived through Ferguson, and it lived through George Floyd. Nothing's changed, of course. Public perception of whether or not the police are meant to help us have polarized. Legally, the cops have no duty to protect civilians.
I say this mostly to brush it aside, because Night Life makes us give a shit about the AD Police. The perspective we follow is that of one of the first K-Suit operators, a man who is very, very good at his job - but that doesn't make a lick of difference. People keep dying, K-suit operators who do the best they can but can't stand against military-grade Boomers the way the Sabers can. We see all this, the resigned frustration, the silent admiration of the Sabers, and it - it makes you see the ADP in a unique way. Here's a quote from Chapter 3:
"And of course they'd have a revolt. They'd always have a revolt. They were the AD Police. They served a very important role, critical to public safety, and they were forced to do it very badly by those in charge. Always halfway between a group never meant to win and the knowledge that they were an elite, between total collapse and the highest morale."
Damn. That's good shit.
The plot progresses, though. A massive fire started by natural-gas storage engulfs the city. Our boy, K-11-2 (no name, not yet, just the way he thinks of himself for now), manages to save Linna, of all people. He retires after they bring in shittier suits, the kind he's been begging the department not to use. Kate Madigan offers him a job, he politely declines, GENOM spins it as the ADP losing an officer in a bad way. He joins a USSD strike team. Does a good job. Things get more and more interesting.
Linna, though... Linna's getting bitter. Three years on and this strike team is outperforming the Sabers. There are so many good lines in the fic, especially from Linna. Here's one:
"We're losing, aren't we? They're close to having rebuilt all the towers. Quincy apparently wasn't killed. And those things weren't even our work."
Yes, the dialogue is simple, but what it conveys is this sense of hope and despair at the same time. It's pragmatic. Nastily so. Linna pops the question to Priss: If Sylia's brain is hardwired to get rid of GENOM, what happens if she's not the one who wins? If the USSD has made destroying the megacorporation a possibility, what happens after Quincy gets pitched out a window? The fic ends on that. And that's a hell of an ending.
So... yeah. I'm dubious that the USSD could be an unalloyed good, here, not in bed with GENOM themselves, but if you let that slide you've got one of the greatest BGC fics out there. One that pivots effortlessly from an ADP story to a new kind of story, a real character-driven adventure that asks hard questions about the dynamic between the Sabers and the rest of the world, and gives Linna, ever-neglected Linna, so much beautiful room to breathe.
I just wish it had continued, you know? What a pity.
I guess the real question is what's my next anti-rec...

What's your take on the way DC and Marvel handle the cities where their superheroes live? Marvel's biggest heroes all living in NYC is a great device, but as a sucker for worldbuilding and lore I do think there's something really cool about DC's approach: Metropolis and Gotham City, when fleshed out in the right way, can embody their heroes in a way you can't with a "real" city (which makes it jarring when you have real cities alongside the fictional ones in DC, but that's a whole other thing)
Both have their pros and cons, in my view. With Marvel, the real-life NYC gives certain stories and periods a texture (so Daredevil during Miller's run is a time-capsule of a Hell's Kitchen that no longer exists). Spider-Man in the 70s lived in Chelsea in a place that's now unaffordable. The X-Men comics under Claremont in the 1980s likewise embody the texture of their times like no other comic subsequently. The last time you get that is JMS' run where Peter/MJ's goodbye outside the airport in ASM#505 is the first acknowledgement of Post-9/11 TSA policies and it creates a poignant contrast to their famous goodbye in ASM#143. To be honest reading the older Marvel comics is often more fun because the later eras of Marvel especially since CIVIL WAR has lost any texture to real life. I wouldn't mind if Marvel somehow develops fictional cities going forward. Like give Spider-Man his own city, Daredevil his own city and so on and so forth. You see the appeal with Latveria, Wakanda, and now Krakoa developing a lot of mileage with its world-building that has more freedom than you can do with say Genosha (aka sorta Apartheid South Africa but not really and no more and then it's gone). There's obviously an upper-limit in terms of what you can do with characters connecting to real life. Make Spider-Man a real-life allegory for NYC and odds are he'd have moved out of the city because of it getting unaffordable. But since Spider-Man needs the city's skyscrapers to swing around and no other city has that elevation he has to be in the city.

Well Batwoman part 3 part 2 finally aired in the UK so now I have seen it all. Overall it was about okay but I can see why it wouldn’t get renewed.
Really the big picture thing is that the show felt like it never really worked out what it’s deal was, especially when they had to replace Kate Kane with Ryan Wilder, and even with Ryan being roughly 1000% more interesting the damage was already done. Then instead of continuing on the whole angle of Ryan as an outsider trying to deal with suddenly being launched into the Wayne CEO role, that instead served as a springboard for her to get tangled up in some family issues that are essentially parallel to Kate’s issues. Like the show even points it out when Marquis is trying to convince Alice that they should team up.
In terms of the medium picture season three structure, I think the first part, where the overall plot existed to drive the more standard villain-of-the-week episode plots works better than what was going on in the second part. One big issue is that the ordering of the big villains feels wrong, with the more dangerous and established Poison Ivy coming before Marquis Jet, who is fresh-faced and also just some guy. But you can’t really reverse the order, because the emotional stakes would end up being reversed. It’s an awkward situation, and I think the main issue is that the whole Jet plotline isn’t very well placed.
Jada Jet, as I mentioned in a previous post, primarily exists to Cause Problems On Purpose. Arguably, any problem the characters face in season three that can’t be traced back to Rene Montoya is produced directly by Jada. The driver for her to produce these problems is her apparent inability to have a conversation where she treats the other party as an equal instead of someone to be commanded. A questionable thing to try on your secret daughter, and an outright ridiculous thing to try on actual Batwoman. She only really stops after her decision to hide her connection to the Black Glove Society nearly gets her killed. And also nearly gets Gotham doused in acid, because half the reason Marquis can access the Batcave and the heroes can’t is because Jada torpedoed Ryan’s (technically fake but Jada didn’t know that) career. Yeah. (sure the Batcave should have better security and another access point but still.)
The Jet plotline also ends up revolving around The Magic Joybuzzer. This piece of Joker-tech can apparently rewire someone’s brain to make them switch between good and evil. Which is pretty magicy. But it’s also treated as a one-of-a-kind object that cannot possibly be replicated, even though it seems to be known exactly how it brain-blasts someone. Jada Jet’s dubious Black Glove solution to Marquis is to freeze him, not recreate the Joybuzzer. When it turns out the repaired Joybuzzer can only be used once, there’s no talk of replicating it so both Alice and Marquis can get a jolt of that electric healing. No, the only person who can possibly make or repair it is Kiki Roulette. Hell, the only character who even attempts to find a substitute is Alice, which happens in order to show how badly she’s falling apart, rather than being an actual attempt to solve the problem.
The other weird plot event is Poison Mary, wherein Mary gets plant powers, but is then immediately upstaged by the original Poison Ivy and loses the plant powers. There’s the seed (oh ho!) of an interesting idea here, but it quickly wilts. Ultimately it simply grows into the “oh no sweet Mary did a murder“ thing which really didn’t work for me. It was essentially self-defence as well, since the guy Mary killed pointed a gun at her. Also he approached a weirdly dress person in Gotham, at night, which is literally the dumbest thing you can do in that city. The improved relationship between Mary and Alice was definitely the best result of the subplot, especially with Alice choosing to take the fall, but overall I think there were better routes to this result.
On the positive side, Marquis Jet is definitely the highlight of the Jet side of things, and he makes a fantastic Joker Tribute Act. My general opinion is that the Joker has become a very overplayed character, so it’s nice to see a slightly different take on the character. While the Ryan vs. Marquis stuff is something of a repeat of the Kate and Alice stuff, the way it’s essentially turned on its head manages to make it feel fresh. Plus I like that if you look at Marquis as the Joker with a dash of Lex Luthor, they didn’t drop the ball and act like the character isn’t primarily, you know, the Joker. And as always, I’m willing to extend some slack to the main villains of Batwoman because they always manage to nail the comic book theatrics, and this is, ultimately, a comic book television show.
Alice is also still around and still managing to be the most interesting character. You’d think her whole deal would have run thin by now, especially with all the characters with a major connection to her being gone, but there’s enough progression that she manages to stay interesting. Once she’s gotten all her revenge, what’s an evil lady to do with her life? I do think that if the show had continued, her exit was still the right move, since without the rest of the Kanes, Alice doesn’t really have much to anchor her to the rest of the plot. It also would stop her falling into being just a generic “chaos villain“, which she never really was - for all her unpredictability, Alice always had specific goals.
Once it gets there, the ending of Batwoman is good enough. Ryan finally catches a break, gets the girl, and saves the city. Hooray! Cut off the final scene with the zombies and you get a fairly standard but perfectly servicable “And The Adventure Continues“ sort of ending, which I think works well.
So yeah, Batwoman. I liked the characters more than I liked the plot, which is strange because the characters were generating the plot. And while I do see why it didn’t get renewed, it’s kind of a letdown because I think it was finally finding it’s groove. But it was fun while it lasted, and from now on if someone asks me who my favourite Batfamily is I can say it’s Ryan Wilder and they’ll look at me like I’m from Earth B.
