Masterpost: All the Lighting Mods for The Sims 2 ✨
I'm making this post both because I like to group things under one post and because I need it as a link to add to my tracker, but still I think it will be useful for many!
Look here for other masterposts!
Lighting Mods
# Gunmod's Radiance Light System 2.4 by dDefinder on ModTheSims - A realistic, extremely dramatic, sometimes very dark lighting mod that increases the intensity of colors, lights and shadows and adds sunrise and sunset to the game (they don't exist in the vanilla game)
#Gunmod's Radiance Light System 2.5 edited by @dreadpirate - An updated version of the aforementioned lighting, with much more compatibility with many shaders and less blue nights! Every Season it have they own lighting color: Summer is vibrant, autumn has warm colors, winter has cold colors, and spring has a little yellowish "filter".
#Maxis Match Lighting Mod by Dreadpirate - The environment is more saturated and bright, removes the dull gray tint that vanilla game has. Everything is smoother and more uniform. The shadows are calm, exactly like the ones in the vanilla game. Each season has its own lighting, the nights are black instead of blue and it has many compatibility with many shaders. This one also has sunrise and sunset.
#Cinema Secret by Dreadpirate (@veronavillequiltingbee) - A perfect mix between the Gunmod Radiance and the Maxis Match Lighting mod. It use elements of both, such as the shadows and calm colors of the MM Lighting Mods but the intensity of the lights of the Gunmod Radiance (especially noticeable when using neon lights). It has many compatibility with many shaders, the nights are black instead of blue, it has sunrise and sunset and every season has its own lighting.
#SpookyMuffin Lighting Mod - Recommended by a user in the comments! I don't know how to talk about this Lighting Mod because I've never used it, but the post on the site explains what it consists of!
#The Sims 2 Beta Lighting - By opening the link you will see a YouTube video by @boringbones that will explain how to have The Sims 2 Beta lighting! (The download can be accessed from his Discord link in the video description)
#5:55 Lighting by Bugjartimedecayoff - An edit of Radiance 2.4, with much brighter outdoor lighting at night (very similar to Maxis' default night lighting) and soft peach-tinted dusk & dawn lights.
#Rae-diance Lighting by Raemia - Another edit of Radiance 2.4, with the differences being brighter nighttime lighting & brighter unlit rooms, plus reduced room-saturation.
#Original Vanilla Lighting Backup Here!
Lighting Mods for the Neighborhood
#Neighborhood Lighting Remedy by Criquette - This lighting mod is ONLY for the neighborhood and you can use it together with any of the three lighting mods mentioned above. Fixes the direction of the lights and shadows to be consistent with that of the lot imposters and makes it more consistent with lot mode.
#Accurate Neighborhood Terrain Lighting by @simnopke - This lightind mod is like the above one. It is only for the neighborhood and can be used in conjunction with a DP & dDefinder lighting mod but NOT in conjunction with Criquette's NH Lighting Remedy.
EDIT: simnopke said: "My Accurate Nhood Terrain Lighting mod does something different than Criquette's Nhood Lighting Remedy and can be used with it. Moreover, my mod has two versions intended for use with Criquette's mod."
Lighting Mods for the CAS (Create a Sim)
#Minimalistic CAS Lighting Mod Replacement with Custom Light by Dreadpirate - This lighting mod is CAS ONLY and can be used together with a dDefinder or DP lighting mod and a lightind mod for the neighborhood. Using similar lighting to the MM Lighting Mod, it makes the CAS more saturated and smooth. You have to change a value in a lights file within the game install path but it's worth it!
One small problem I've noticed is that when used with lighting mods other than the MM Lighting mod it often doesn't work well even if the value is correctly changed. For example, when I changed the lighting mod and switched from MM to Cinema Secret, it triggered the super lighted sims bug in CAS which I didn't have before. But then again, this could be just my problem. There is fix by Lazy Duchess for this bug but you need to be very careful. Sometimes it conflicts with some shaders (as in my case) and unleashes an absurd pink soup even in bodyshop even if bodyshop shouldn't have anything to do with it. But AS ALWAYS, maybe it's only a problem of mine because I'm very unlucky.
EXTRA SHADERS BUT NOT REQUIRED
#Better Nightlife by @criquette-was-here - Even if it does not change anything graphically with colors, lights and shadows like a lighting MOD it adds shaders that allow the deco hoods to light up during the night. So for example, by downloading hood decos compatible with this shader you can have street lamps that light up on the street (in the neighborhood), buildings lit up at night, lit bridges etch.
#Blue Snow No More by Dreadpirate - This shader removes the blue tint that snow creates even if you use lighting mods that make the night black instead of blue. Many DP lighting mods (Like MM Lighting Mod) have this shader already included, so you don't need to download it, this is an individual shader if you don't use their lighting mods. To be honest, neither the shader INSIDE the lighting mod nor the shader by itself has never worked for me, but I think there is a problem in my download folder at this point or I am very unlucky.
#Overly Bright CAS Fix by @lazyduchess - As I have already explained before, this mod fixes the bug of super enlightened sims in CAS. Sometimes it can conflict with something (which I don't quite understand with what) and trigger an absurd pink soup, so if you suddenly start to notice more pink soup than usual try to remove it and see how it goes.
Maybe it just conflicts with some lighting mod or some shader. In my case it could be the DP's lighting mod for the CAS.
#Moi Shader Roof by niol on ModThe Sims - This shader fixes the lighting of roofs which sometimes appear much darker than their texture. Many lighting mods from DP have this shader included OR are compatible with this shader. So check the descriptions under their lighting mods before downloading it.
#Brighter Roofs...But Not Too Bright! by Deastrumquodvicis on ModTheSims - Same as the previous shader, but makes the roofs less bright than they show with the aforementioned shader. This shader uses Moi's shader as a base, so you can NOT use both. Use only one. Many lighting mods from DP have this shader included OR are compatible with this shader. So check the descriptions under their lighting mods before downloading it.
#Moi's Neighbourhood Water Global Mod by niol on ModTheSims - This mod changes the water color of the neighborhood. Nothing more nothing less. Many DP mods are compatible with this shader.
#Pond & Sea Water Overhaul by Voeille on ModTheSims - This mod changes the water of the sea and ponds and makes it more realistic using The Sims 2 Castaway water shaders. Many DP mods are compatible with this shader but for some shaders like Better Nightlife it needs a little more attention. For example, if you use Better Nightlife you will need to use the version of these shaders provided by the Better Nightlife link to be compatible. So you have to delete these for use their shaders if you want both.
You can't use this together Moi's Water.
#A World Lit by Fire by hat_play_sims on dreamwidth - This mod itself doesn't change shaders dramatically, but it change the color of some lights and make them more sensate. I'll explain: many maxis lights that are powered by candles or should give off a warm light regardless, give off a cool, white light instead. Have you ever seen a candle emitting white light? No! This mod fixes all lights in the game and makes lights that need to be warm... warm. Perfect for history-themed saves or for the ones like me, completely obsessed with candlelight in this game. Many DP mods are compatible with this shader. It's immensely beautiful when used with the dramacity of the Radiance System but works quite well with other lighting mods as well.

@aresagainstthemachine asked so this one is for you. Video of it working at the end.
Here's the one project I am so proud of I named my entire blog after it.
Back in 2020, while I was stuck at home with few pleasant things to do, I decided to bring this contraption to life.
Only recently had I gotten into this inspiring series called Dr. Stone, and when I saw them make this device in the anime, I knew it was my divine calling to build it, for I had prior experience building circuits with vacuum tubes, an interest that was fostered greatly by my late grandfather when I was a boy. It had been because of the stories he'd tell me that I built my first crystal radio back then (which took me about 4 years of trial and error). Now, people had ''built'' the phone on youtube at least once before, but I was not satisfied with what they did, when they used parts that were too advanced and didn't even get it to transmit a voice, only to pick up radio stations. So I tried to go beyond while being as accurate as possible to the level of technology they had, I was seeking to achieve more with less
Tumblr media
Making something that picks a radio signal is relatively easy, the challenge was making it also produce its own signal so it could truly be used as a phone (or more accurately, like a walkie talkie), and I restricted myself to use the most primitive tubes I had, the ones most similar to what old Kaseki would have made.
(Happy birthday to Kaseki by the way, February 9th) I started out using this beautiful Western Electric 262-A tube. This general purpose triode was developed around 1928 by the Bell Telephone company and one of the things it was known to be used for, was in cinema projectors to amplify the sound from the early talkie films. I think that's interesting enough to mention.
Tumblr media
It wasn't long until my experiments showed great promise, eventually I moved on to a type 45 vacuum tube, another triode which is more powerful as a transmitter than the 262-A yet its construction is much more primitive. This tube is very similar to what Senku & Co. would've had.
Tumblr media
I started building the definitive device, simultaneously laying a plan to combine a transmitter and receiver in the same unit using just one tube, a task that required this one part to perform four different duties (because I hadn't read the manga, and I didn't know the final unit they dispatched used two tubes instead of just one). On new year's eve at the end of 2020, the circuit was broadcasting One Small Step by Lillian Weinberg, loud and clear to a radio across the room.
You can get a recording of that in the link below as Tumblr won't let me upload it (yes I am using discord to host files, it also works for hosting images for your fanfics on Ao3, you're welcome).
The wooden circuit board was wired with homemade wires, made by cutting a sheet of copper into strips, and wrapping them in cotton and thread. A relay is used to switch the phone from receiver mode to transmitter mode with the push of a button.
Tumblr media
Then the coils were calculated and wound, including the iconic large transmit coil
Tumblr media
but would this coil that was made to look like the one in the series, be suitable to repeat what I had achieved in my experiments, would it resonate and produce the signal?
yes
Tumblr media
I intended originally to have this project done before season 2 of Dr. Stone started, and put out a youtube video, but that ended up not happening. Still, the unit finally came together, and the plastic housing was a tupper with the rim cut off, painted orange and applied lettering.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By now season 2 had already ended, I believe, or it was soon to. Before I painted the case, I had to have one definitive test, to see that my creation demonstrated the functionality it promised, and now I had just the right voice to do it.
The final circuit was based on the work of radio pioneer Edwin Howard Armstrong, who was one of the fellows who invented the wireless world we know it today.
Tumblr media
I turned the switch, and watched as the tungsten filament in the tube started glowing red. First I adjusted the receive coil and a radio station came in on the crystal earpiece, then, with a radio receiver in tune nearby, I started the sound I wanted to send over the air, and I pressed the transmit button...
It's true, it can be done. Today, there are people still alive who saw the day when the cutting edge of electronics was at this level. How far we've come from these baby steps, over such a short time.
Isn't science awesome?
Tumblr media
I still haven't built a second unit.

Real Art/"Real" Art/ Real "Art"/Unreal Art/merchandising/marketing. Colection of Notes.
"A software system developed by Peter Jackson and his team, used throughout the production of the documentary series Get Back, finally opened the way for the uncoupling of John’s vocal from his piano part. As a result, the original recording could be brought to life and worked on anew with contributions from all four Beatles." — Description of the official video for "Now and Then" on The Beatles' official YouTube channel. “Our fine arts were developed, their types and uses were established, in times very different from the present, by men whose power of action upon things was insignificant in comparison with ours. But the amazing growth of our techniques, the adaptability and precision they have attained, the ideas and habits they are creating, make it a certainty that profound changes are impending in the ancient craft of the Beautiful. In all the arts there is a physical component which can no longer be considered or treated as it used to be, which cannot remain unaffected by our modern knowledge and power. For the last twenty years neither matter nor space nor time has been what it was from time immemorial. We must expect great innovations to transform the entire technique of the arts, thereby affecting artistic invention itself and perhaps even bringing about an amazing change in our very notion of art.” — Paul Valéry, PIÈCES SUR L’ART
(...) there may be more to come, according to Jackson. He told the Sunday Times newspaper he has footage from Get Back, in which one or other of the Beatles riffs on a musical idea in the studio. He said: “We can take a performance from Get Back, separate John and George, and then have Paul and Ringo add a chorus or harmonies. You might end up with a decent song but I haven’t had conversations with Paul about that. It’s fanboy stuff, but certainly conceivable.” —Peter Jackson Reveals More Beatles Music “Is Conceivable” After Release Of ‘Final’ Song By Fab Four. Deadline.com.
"During long periods of history, the mode of human sense perception changes with humanity’s entire mode of existence. The manner in which human sense perception is organized, the medium in which it is accomplished, is determined not only by nature but by historical circumstances as well." —Walter Benjamin, The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction, Thesis 3.
Tumblr media
A hologram of Ronnie James Dio will embark on a world tour, called Dio Returns," with live musicians from Dio Disciples.—Ronnie James Dio Hologram Set For World Tour, billboard.com "In the case of films, mechanical reproduction is not, as with literature and painting, an external condition for mass distribution. Mechanical reproduction is inherent in the very technique of film production. This technique not only permits in the most direct way but virtually causes mass distribution." —Walter Benjamin, The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction.
"In Ruiz’ poetics, impressively hermetic but also endearingly ludic, he shows that the Hollywood doctrine, that narrative must be built around a central conflict, is nonsense. He discusses different kinds of Utopia – “images of nowhere”; how a thing can be true even though it isn’t real; declares that, even though we have explored space we have still to explore time; “films are like human beings: you look at them and they look back at you”; the unconscious secrets of photographic and video images… He advocates a Shamanic cinema that voyages to different worlds, that accounts for all varieties of experience and can preserve the mystery of the world and its hidden details, a vertiginous sense of mutating images…" —James Norton, The Mystery, as Always: Raúl Ruiz, Klimt and the Poetics of Cinema.
The spectacle cannot be understood as the abuse of a world of vision, as the prod uct of the techniques of mass d issem ination of i mages. It is, rather, a Weltanschauung which has become actual, materially translated . It is a vision of the world which has become objectified. (...) The spectacle, understood in its totality, is simultaneously the result and the project of the existing mode of prod uction. It is not a su pplement to the real world, its added d ecoration. It is the heart of the unrealism of the real society. In all its specific forms, as information or propaganda, advertisement or direct consum ption of enterta inments, the spectacle is the present model of socially dominant life. It is the omnipresent affi rmation of the cho ice already made in prod uction and its corollary consumption. The form a nd the content of the spectacle are identically the total justification of the cond it ions and the ends of the existing system. The spectacle is also the permanent presence of this justification, to the extent that it occu pies the principal part of the time lived outside of modern production. — Guy Debord, The society of the spectacle "Hence I was preoccupied by a potentiality untypical in normal film construction and film composition. Operating at the outset with such material and such occurrences, it was natural to speculate principally upon the potentialities of juxtaposition. Less attention was given to an analysis of the actual nature of the pieces juxtaposed. Such attention would not have been sufficient in itself. History has proven that such attention, directed solely to the content of single shots, led in practice to a decline of montage to a level of "special effects," "montage sequences," etc., with all the consequences this involved. What should have been the proper emphasis, what should have received the principal attention, in order that neither element would be unduly exaggerated? It was necessary to turn to that fundamental basis which equally determines both the content enclosed by. single frames and the compositional juxtaposition of these separate contents with each other, i.e., to the content of the whole, of the general and unifying needs." — Sergei Eisenstein , The Film Sense.

Bad Ending vs. Good Ending
Original date of the post: 29 of January, 2008. Disclaimer: writtings originally belong to PokerNemesis.
The “good ending” of Rule of Rose is for Jennifer to reach the “Once Upon A Time” chapter. It occurs as a consequence of Jennifer giving the gun to Gregory during the latter half of the Stray Dog boss-battle.
After Jennifer gives the gun to Gregory, and he shoots himself, Jennifer and Brown run out through the front gate of the orphanage and together enter into a bright light that expands from the center of the screen to the edges of the screen. This is the game-transition to the “Once Upon A Time” chapter. See the YouTube video of the good-ending-transition.
The “bad ending” occurs as a consequence of Jennifer herself killing Gregory. See the YouTube video of the “bad ending“. At the time of Gregory’s death, in the bad ending, Brown barks at Gregory and the screen goes black by means of a black circle closing in from the edges of the screen. This is a way of ending a scene known in cinematic terms as “iris in”. According to “The Classical Hollywood Cinema: Film Style and Mode of Production to 1960“, by David Bordwell, Janet Staiger, and Kristen Thompson:
From 1917 to 1921, fade-ins and -outs and iris-ins and -outs were the most common optical transitions between scenes. Between 1921 and 1928, the iris fell into disuse, replaced by the fade as the most common transition.
The good-ending-transition involves an iris-out of light. The bad-ending involves an iris-in of blackness.
After the screen goes black, in the bad ending, narration appears on the screen that says (with the sound of Joshua’s maniacal laughter in the background):
And that is how the girl wound up all alone again. She couldn’t keep her promise, nor could she save anyone. What a pitiful, unlucky girl.
The repercussions of Jennifer’s failure to reach the “Once Upon A Time” chapter are:
1. Jennifer is “all alone again”.
2. Jennifer can’t “keep her promise”.
3. Jennifer can’t “save anyone”.
The implication is that if Jennifer DOES reach the “Once Upon A Time” chapter, then she:
1. Is no longer all alone.
2. Can keep her promise.
3. Can save one or more.
Is there a way to make sense of these three implications in terms of what occurs in the “Once Upon A Time” chapter?
I believe that there is.
In the “Once Upon A Time” chapter, Jennifer, for the first time, recounts to us some of her memories of her life at the orphanage.
I think that the purpose of Jennifer’s dream was to get her to regain (by accepting) her repressed memories of her life at the orphanage and the people (and pet dog) that she knew there.
If Jennifer doesn’t accept these memories, the people of the orphanage, and Brown, who have reappeared in her dream, disappear again from her life. And in that sense, Jennifer becomes “all alone again”.
If Jennifer doesn’t accept her memories, she can’t keep her promise of “everlasting true love”, because she can only love if she remembers.
And who will remember the orphans, or Brown, if Jennifer does not? They all disappear as if they never existed, unless Jennifer saves the memory of them in her own heart. Only in that way can any of them be saved.
This interpretation of the purpose of Jennifer’s dream is, I think, supported by Jennifer’s own words when she says (at the gate of the orphanage in the “Once Upon A Time” chapter):
“I’m sorry everyone. You don’t deserve to be forgotten… But I’ll remember you. Thank you all for the precious memories.”
This interpretation of the purpose of Jennifer’s dream also fits with what I proposed in my post “The Stray Dog Boss-battle Mystery (Part 2)“:
What Wendy said to Jennifer (”Because you wouldn’t love me… because you were so stubborn… I brought you here”) is not a memory re-emerging from Jennifer’s forgotten past. I don’t think that Wendy ever actually said that to Jennifer during the orphanage massacre. Rather, I think it is Jennifer’s dreaming mind, represented by Wendy (and also speaking on behalf of Jennifer’s blocked memory of Wendy), that is talking to Jennifer’s conscious mind in her dream, explaining the dream to her. Explaining to Jennifer why it is that she is having the dream.
Following the orphanage massacre, Jennifer apparently blocked off all of her memories of the orphanage, and all of her memories of Wendy and the other orphans. I think that Jennifer’s refusal to remember those times (and the people of those times) is the stubbornness that Wendy is referring to. And Jennifer can’t love Wendy, or treasure anything from those times, if she won’t remember.
To fully support the proposed interpretations of the good and bad endings that I have presented in this post, there is something else that I must do. I must explain how it is that Jennifer’s handing over of the gun to Gregory relates to Jennifer accepting her memories. Because this is the act that allows her to reach the “Once Upon A Time” chapter. I will deal with this topic in my upcoming “The Stray Dog Boss-battle Mystery” series of posts."

And as you get older, you start living differently. Your life begins to move in a reverse mode. You spend your Saturdays in bed, wrapped in blankets, watching foreign cinema that you have never watched before instead of partying with your friends. You take out the trash every day, you change your sheets every three days. You don't always have to be the first person in line. Traffic doesn't bother you. You put your favourite songs in your car and take the long route home. It feels a little like your own personal concert. You don't need another person to go to the movies with you. You order for one in a cafe and sit beside the glass window watching the roads, people, the way winds blow, and the branches of trees. There is a certain satisfaction in knowing that you have finally learned to live all by yourself.
You miss winter nights, but the ones from seven years ago in your hometown where your father and you lit a bonfire outside your garden and sat for hours talking about stars and planets. You remember your uni friends, and sometimes it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth, and sometimes it makes you laugh in the middle of a restaurant where you are on a blind date. When he asks you about it, you say nothing, but you make a mental note of checking up on them online. You realise that you aren't afraid of heartbreaks and rejections anymore. It's all part of life anyway.
You watch a lot of YouTube makeup tutorials at 1 AM on a Friday night when you have nothing else to do. You experiment more with yourself. You wear all the clothes that you weren't so sure about. You put green, lavender, blue eyeshadows and draw pretty siren or rhinestone looks instead of going for something plain. You save up for the trips that you were dreaming to take. You meet your friends over Sunday brunches, you wear more colour than just dressing in boring monochrome. You buy a lot of plants and think about getting a cat. You listen to a lot of artists, and you finally find the one that you can listen to at night. You learn the things that you wanted to learn as a kid—French lessons, keyboard, horse riding, and cooking. You take care of your body and your mental health, and you learn how to say no, even when you hesitate. You invest in funds and think of buying a house, and it doesn't feel like a grown-up thing anymore. It just feels right. Or maybe you invest that money in traveling around the world. You don't overthink or hyperventilate so often because you have accepted that life has always been uncertain and that is the only certain thing about it.
You stop kissing people you didn't like much, or date out of convenience. You think of being with someone kind and nice instead of romanticising red flags. You choose your mental peace over chaos. You do not worry about your social media followers; you like the silence of a Sunday morning. You take trips on your own; you pack your picnic baskets and read books the same way you did when you were little. You leave parties early, but come home and dance to some techno song while you make pasta and sit on your balcony. You love your body more, and you accept people for who they are. You learn to cut off friends who gossip behind your back; you learn to prioritise yourself over others. There's no more waiting for the apology letters from your parents, and you're finally fine with it. You learn that you can miss people, but if they don't make a conscious effort to get you back in their life, they won't earn a place in yours.
And when you feel lonely, you don't run away from yourself and your feelings. You understand that only when you have acceptance, you will let people love you in the way they can, and you will love them, too, in the way you can. You know that there are things you cannot control, so you let them be and live anyway. You take more pictures of the skies and mountains, your friends, and yourself. When you find something extremely beautiful, you absorb it with your eyes first because you know that some things are better kept in your memories than your phone gallery. When your friends ask you about your love life, you aren't so bothered because you had made a lot of mistakes when you were young, and you had hurt yourself and ruined your heart for the ones who didn't deserve you. You smile and say that you are okay, and you really, really mean it because all your life you have sought validations from others, but this is the first time in a long time when you have begun to see yourself as someone important, too. And all the love that you were searching for elsewhere, you finally start to look for it within.
- Rae Pathak, friday reminders.

How recognizable are your Victors to the average Panem citizen? I'm especially curious about the ones that don't seem as infamously flashy, like Nero and Emory.
based on what happens with celebrities in real life, my headcanon is that most D2 victors can pass without recognition if they want to. because they're so much into their Public Persona that when they go out in normal mode, most people don't notice
there was a story a while ago about queen elizabeth routinely going to the cinema with regular people in the audience and nobody realizing, because, y'know, everyone knows what The Queen looks like so if she wears civilian clothing and sits a couple rows ahead of a stealth bodyguard in a suit she's basically invisible, and also, nobody expects her to be sitting in front of them at a showing of Get Out or whatever so we all see what we expect to see
(this also turned out to be the reason why prince what's his name always wears those dumb suits and has his hair combed that stupid way, because when his mom takes him out to the playground in normal clothes the paparazzi don't clock them)
the people who have the most trouble getting spotted irl are, like, youtubers or voice actors or whatever who just look like Some Dude (gender neutral) and therefore CAN be recognized when they're out getting groceries by their niche group of extremely dedicated fans
I think Emory probably falls into this, where she isn't the most popular so her overall recognition saturation is lower, but because her persona is pretty close to her as a person, when people who DO know her see her, they absolutely Know
this is one of the reasons Callista is so obsessed with Branding (TM), partly because she finds it hard to turn off, but also because on the rare occasions she doesn't feel like it, nobody is going to think the woman in an oversized t-shirt and yoga pants is The Butcher. at best you'll think hah! this person looks a lot like -- but then they're gone
Misha is famously one of the best at chameleoning thanks to the background in pickpocketing, she has that Could Be Anybody Girl Next Door invisibility when she turns off the razor charm that means you really don't see her unless she wants you to. Devon is very impressed and demands she teach him since he's very good at masking but much less good at disappearing
I think postwar Claudius has a bit of Tony Hawk energy ("What's he doing these days" "This") and everyone finds it extremely funny

Welcome to the eighth edition of
MV Dress Up
It’s the Kohane Bday special!! So I got 2 VBS songs in…
Tumblr media
I am so happy with this outfit lineup because everyone has their own unique outfit.
The gold accents on Akito and Toya look off in these photos but since everything in the MV is black and white, it won’t stand out as much.
There isn’t any logical explanation to why each girl is in their specific outfit, I just wanted Rin to be the one to have the shorts.
And…
Tumblr media
Excuse me Cinema called, they want their outfit back.
Literally go to the official MV on the YouTube channel, it is just the Cinema outfit, hairstyles and everything.
I felt as though I needed to give Children Record it’s own costumes, so I went with the set that is only used in the 2dMV for Awake Now.
As for why Kohane has her anniversary hairstyle, look, it doesn’t have many costumes it actually looks good with so I wanted to give show off an instance where it doesn’t look horrible.
Just a heads up, MV Dress Up will be going on a temporary hiatus until the start of Cast a Spell on You, because I need those costumes for a certain song. There will more after this, but I encourage everyone to spend some time in Dress up Mode, select your favorite character and show off some of your own favorite costumes combinations.
See ya soon!!

Review of Jerffers' Medea Adaptation.
Disclamer: I am a student of the University of Hull blogging as part of my assessment for the module Drama, Conflict, and Identity. All views expressed here are my own and do not represent the university
Tumblr media
A review of Jeffers' adaptation of Medea: This was televised in 1959. This production can be found easily on youtube - MEDEA (1959) JUDITH ANDERSON. This is an adaptation of the originally written Medea by Euripides from the 5th-century Ancient Greek Theatre. At the time this play was considered unorthodox and groundbreaking - to create catharsis for audiences to release their emotions of frustration through a play. This gives us the necessary context for a fuller understanding of the play we are reviewing - Jeffers’ Adaptation of Medea.
Jeffers’ adaptation of Medea uses technical differences from the original playwright of Medea to cater to its television audience. One example of this is the use of elevated stairs with several levels in this play adaptation. This aids with depth perception in the production as characters - specifically Medea herself interacts with characters from different steps and heights. This allows the characters to travel to and from each other creating a more open performance that seems more realistic to a viewer who would be watching the filming of the play rather than being in the audience. Furthermore, throughout the play the more powerful characters stand higher up on the set - especially at the end of the performance as Medea stands over a sobbing Jason - this depicts how this adaptation used these stairs to depict the more powerful characters. Moreover, this feeling of the audience walking closer and further away from the camera greatly helps to mirror the conventional use of ancient Greek theatres of the parodoi - a lengthy walkway that actors could use to move towards and from the audience. This adds depth and a more inclusive feeling to this television adaptation of Medea by mirroring ancient Greek theatre layouts with a camera and set work. This idea is further reinforced by Jeffers’ use of a door in the center of the set - mirroring the use of skene in ancient Greek cinema. This central door would have been used to hide characters offstage to increase the gory images and possibilities created by the imagination of the audience. This was achieved as they only heard the screams and horrors of Medea in the first act, rather than also seeing her character. This adds an almost psychological horror to the performance as the imagination of the viewer runs wild. This not only adds depth to this high-level performance of Medea but also showcases the actress's wide range of dramatic acting abilities through a wider mode of dramatic performance.
Tumblr media
Moving onto how the actors are dressed in this performance of Medea; The costumes in this performance attempt to portray the conventional dresses of the ancient Greeks at the time of Medea’s setting. This is seen through long robes for both the male and female actors as well as what is presumably jewellery for those of higher social status - the type of precious metal however is difficult to determine due to the black and white recording of this adaptation of medea. Through the use of conventional ancient greek theatre clothing this adaptation of Medea doesn’t necessarily need to utilise the authentic greek masks of theatre. In the original showings of Medea - a Greek tragedy, there would only be 3 or 4 actors on stage at any time utilising masks to portray identity. The lack of mask use and more than four actors in Jeffers’ adaptation moves away from the conventional Greek theatre norm. This however calls for some interesting character interaction with more gon g on stage between Medea and other characters as well as a larger chorus on stage. This therefore allows for more in depth character interaction - allowing for an after paced performance and a more in depth exploration of medea’s character as she interacts with more characters at once.
I'd like to further discuss the ideas surrounding conflict and identity that are portrayed in this adaptation of Medea. Upon watching the 4th act of this adaptation we see an interaction between Medea, Jason and their two sons - all of which are on stage at the same time during this scene. This scene sets up perfectly to release catharsis for one of the ending scenes of its production at around 1:34:00. In this heart wrenching scene we see Medea give a soliloquy of her outrage and hatred for Jason, followed by the revealing of her dead sons. This production carefully crafted an intense reveal for the death of the sons with the use of a large door in the middle of the scene - very similar to a skeen in the original playwright of medea. The large doors centre to the camera open to reveal the dead bodies of  both sons as Jason writhes in pain.
This scene explores issues of identity and conflict as the atypical mother identity of Medea is portrayed. This can be inferred by what can only be described as a direct juxtaposition to a nurturing and loving mother as she strikes down her own children in her youth. Thai not only allows for the audience to release catharsis but makes the audience question their own identity as they consider just how easy it was for, what was previously a loving mother, to commit such a heinous act. This therefore creates a conflicting identity among the character of Medea - therefore opening up connotations of nature vs nurture, making the audience wonder whether evil is inherited or nurtured into them This scene overall provided great insight and questioning into how identity is created and by asking - why is Medea seemingly so evil?
The ideas surrounding conflict are also prevalent in this scene, as we see Medea and Jason arguing throughout. Conflict is presented throughout this production through these characters arguing over faithfulness and love - with this scene providing a climax, ultimately ending with Jason begging for mercy to see his dead sons. Contetxally as an ancient Greek tragedy, this idea would be highly atypical, completely changing the gender roles and narratives surrounding power in a relationship with the man begging for mercy at the hands of his wife. This changes the narrative of gender roles whilst also providing meaningful insight into what conflict is - suggesting it's both an emotional and physical battle rather than just a physical one. Applying this production, the idea surrounding gender roles are much more accepted as women and men being equal – however, the idea surrounding conflict being a battle of mentality is still very prevalent and may give the audience an insight into what conflict really is and an insight into true hardship.
Tumblr media
Overall both themes of identity and conflict are shown in this production as a whole and, specifically in the closing scenes of this production. This adaptation mold well to the new technology of television (which is how it was shown to audiences) whilst also staying true to the strength surrounding Euripedea’s original production o Fmedea - such as the use of a skene and the cultural questions surrounding the power of gender conflict and identity. This production is overall a great watch and really provides insight and entertainment at the same time, furthermore, this may serve as a useful resource when studying Mdea as the play is easier to visualize when being watched rather than read.

Is prsk a game you have to use both hands to really get into? Sort of a dumb question bc obviously it’s a rhythm game, but idk how much of it is the actual gameplay if that makes sense. I love vocaloid stuff but I can’t use both of my hands to play games :/
i just went and experimented using only one hand to play and i was able to full combo my way through the easy and normal modes, and while i didn't manage to get a full combo on hard, i still got through it pretty okay! so it's definitely possible :) you wouldn't be able to clear the expert or master modes, but who care
BUT the gameplay isn't like, directly related to the story or anything. you play a few songs and rack up points to unlock "episodes" to watch, and they're all up on youtube
here is a playlist of every group's main stories. these establish the characters and how they meet and discover their SEKAI and end up forming their little bands.
and HERE is a playlist of every event story. the events are where you learn more and more about the characters and see them face new conflicts and start to develop.
i do have to warn you that nightcord at 25:00's story contains heavy themes of suicidal ideation and is just generally... much, much more upsetting than the other groups. but it's still heartwarming and sweet in its own right :) :')
and of course, like literally every song in the game can also be found on youtube. and there's stuff like the 4komas that you can read so like... you really don't have to play the game at all to get into the story and the characters themselves, which is pretty nice! for fun i'll link my favorite songs from each group
leo/need: aoku kakero / night sky patrol of tomorrow
vivid bad squad: ghost city tokyo / cinema
wonderlandsxshowtime: as you like it
nightcord at 25:00: hated by life itself / kanadetomosusora
more more jump: chikyuu saigo no kokuhaku wo (they're the group that covers melty land nightmare, which IS one of my all-time favorite songs, but nothing can surpass the original so um)

it’s so convenient that the youtuber player in cinema mode is wide screen so that every video has huge black bars at the sides, except widescreen videos that instead get a huge black border around them bc they don’t actually use the extra space
