Zachi/Vader Appreciation Post

A lot of Tamagotchi books were released in early/mid-1997 before the release of the International P2 that features exclusive mystery creature Zachi/Vader-chan. While Japan saw a lot of reverse-import International P1s that saw Sam/Bill integrated into most Tamagotchi visual media post-May 1997, the International P2 was much more niche. As a result, there's nearly no art of Zachi/Vader, and no profiles in Japanese guidebooks and comics! He also wasn't included in any of the videogames. Per request, I was able to dig through my library and find some weird little dudes hanging around.

Bask in the alien glory of the most mysterious hidden character!

Proto-Vader-chan from August 1997's "Tamagotchi Research Report" (Tokuma Shoten's Roman Album line) as the International P2 wasn't released overseas until a month or so later. The tokusatsu alien/robot vibes are strong here.

Here are two Vaders from the harder-to-find second volume of Tamagotchi Research Report. The first is a sticker, while the second is from a gathering on the beach.

Tokuma Shoten went to town in their kids activity book "Doko² Tamagotchi". Look at him go! He spends a lot of time either introducing himself (ベーダーでーす "Iiii'm Vader") , hanging with Sam/Bill, or just living it up!!

I've heard of these things since I was a baby, but they never interested me, so there's no "I got inspired by" or "I loved this as a kid" today lol

The thing is that I drew this back in 2021 because I saw the Tamagotchi Video Advetures on YouTube, and I liked the crayon-like style they had there, and the simple design of these characters was pretty cool to me. I don't know much about this franchise, but I'm aware that Mametchi is like the main one in the series, and, at least in this american version it was just another character (and apparently it was a girl), the common early weirdness of franchises lel

Anyway, this version was pretty nice to me, and hard to not draw the characters hehe

I've been pausing these two a lot lately and didn't wanna keep running them if I wasn't enjoying it as much as I could so I took the batteries out. carnation was animated on screen for a few seconds before he slowly disappeared 😭

the Keitai made a small beep when it shut off which I've never heard before so ofc, me being the worrywart that I am, I got worried I accidentally scratched the motherboard when I popped the battery out. that happens whenever I take the batteries out tho, especially after my almost-disaster w my music star lmao.

One of my coworkers fell in love with my Frankentama and begged me for one of their own. This is the first time I've tried multicolor buttons...and I believe it worked!

They didn't believe I could make it sparkle from the inside. Well, surprise! Revenge of the clear hologram film.

Here's this one's pedigree:

-International P2 chip and screen (English language, Zatchi raisable, localized medicine icon)

-Original Tamagotchi Gen 2 wallpaper flipped upside down with a clear hologram sheet placed over it

-Japanese P2 green front shell

-Red buttons from a modern Tamagotchi Original, yellow and blue buttons from the clear blue (my custom) and green shells

-Solid purple screen holder (leftover part from my custom)

-Japanese New P2 clear yellow back shell (the other half of my custom)

-Keyring from International P2

-Stickers I bought literally a dozen years ago

I actually don't know if it works or not because I ran out of loose LR-44 batteries. Here's hoping it's not a total dud and that my coworker likes the result!

As someone who loved the feeling and flexibility of bean bag dolls but didn't quite care enough about generic animals to collect beanie babies, I always wanted Tamagotchi Cybies. I never managed to get one as a kid. I had to pick my toys very carefully since I only got one, and Pokemon and Nintendo was a higher priority for me at the time, so I got a bunch of bean bag dolls of mario characters and pokemon.

Well I was happy to get a nice offer for a cheap one on Ebay. Tarakotchi is far from my favorite but I like his USA design a lot more than his Japanese one. He's also not my first, since I got Zatchi earlier this month. My true white whale will be Maskutchi I have a maskutchi doll but it's not a cybie and it's not rocking the USA blue and black design.

Sadly these things don't seem super common but i'll keep my eyes out.

Hey do you know if in the original tamagotchi character sprites are placed in the same locations in almost all animations, or they just made like 10 animations for every character with no similarities between them?

On the original Tamagotchi, with the exception of the babies, all characters move and animate within a 16x16 pixel block. For all of the main interactive animations (feeding, playing, sickness, sleeping, death), the character is always placed directly at the center of the screen, and while each character has their own unique animations, the exact patterns are the same for nearly everything. The only exception is eating; it's a six frame animation for some characters and a four frame animation for others.

For the idle movement of the character moving around the screen, there are six different animation patterns which will vary depending on which character you raise, as demonstrated below:

Idle pattern 1 is used for the babies (Babytchi, Shirobabytchi).

Idle pattern 2 is used for Marutchi, Tonmarutchi, Kuchipatchi, and Hashizoutchi.

Idle pattern 3 is used for Tamatchi, Tongaritchi, Mametchi, Mimitchi, Tarakotchi, and Takotchi.

Idle pattern 4 is used for Kuchitamatchi, Hashitamatchi, Nyorotchi, and Kusatchi.

Idle pattern 5 is used for Ginjirotchi, Pochitchi, Nyatchi, Maskutchi, Zuccitchi, and Charitchi.

Idle pattern 6 is used for the secret characters Oyajitchi, Bill, Sekitoritchi, and Zatchi.

The replica models exclude patterns 4 and 5, replacing them with pattern 2 for their respective characters.

i dont remember whether or not i told you but my tama grew into zuccitchi....... i wznted to get zatchi after that but apparently you need perfect care but i accidentally left my tama at home yesterday so i probably have at least a few care misses. its sad but maybe next time

I've been trying to get Zatchi too!!!! it's so cute.....but when I finally got Zuccitchi it wasn't with perfect care 😔😔 hopefully we can both get him eventually hehe
