He loves you so much

I feel like he can be a rough and tumble kind of guy, although he can turn on the gentleness when needed, and I feel like he’d have a lot of fun with his masculine gf

Definitely a gym couple 100%

He’s a bit of a peacock and will definitely ego press, but he’s strong enough to actually see it through and he’s not so dumb that he’d lift weights he definitely can’t

He’s doing it all for you though, he’ll peek from the corner of his eye to see if you’re watching and if you are, he’s beaming the entire time

The weekend rolled around which meant your girlfrined was dragging you out to have fun. There was a vintage fair just opened up in town for the weekend and you could tell she was vibrating to go and check out all the racks, pick outfit after outfit and look amazing in each and everyone she wore.

Sometimes you were jealous that no matter what she picked up and put on you looked like a supermodel and you mildly felt like a potato but she always made you feel like the most attractive person in the world.

And truth be told, you liked seeing her try out new styles and loved the happy expression on her face as she found her new favoriate outfit that she couldn’t wait to wear on your next date. Honestly, it filled your heart with joy.

Holding hands with Whitey you turned into another stall, this one had many vintage shirts with awful patterns and she was all over them. Picking up a pastel blue one with pink flowers and putting it against her chest, turning with a smile and asking you what you thought.

“Anything you wear suits you.” You said with a laugh and watched her bat her eyelashes at you, clearly pleased with the anseer.

“Oh! This one for you!” She said and handed you a tie dye that was a mix of your favorite colours.

“We could wear ugly shirts to Marco’s party next week, we know he’ll be wearing something just as bad.” She said with a smirk and you nodded.

Going through stalls, bags getting fuller and fuller as each place had something she liked the look of, she even made sure you had a new outfit of two. She was generous like that, and said something about how her father was always cheap and she wanted to be different. Wanted to spoil people.

Getting home and dropping all the heavy shopping bags you both leaned back on the sofa and let out sighs. The day had been a success, for you and for her. She reached over and held your hand, turning to face you with a tired expression.

Hello! Welcome to my blog, The Supergirl Archives! My name is SK and this is side project born out of my love for Supergirl.

So, what are the Supergirl Archives? This is going to be my incomplete journey through the history of Supergirl comics. I’ve long loved the character, and since I have a DC Universe Infinite (DCUI) account, I thought it would be fun to go back and read through a bunch of old Supergirl comics. And I thought it might be fun to chronicle what I read.

Supergirl (vol 6). The New 52 run that ran for 40 issues from 2011-2015.

Supergirl (vol 7). The Rebirth run that ran for 42 issues from 2016-2020.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (vol 1). The newest mini-series that ran for 8 issues in 2021-2022.

Why “an incomplete journey”? Well, I don’t know if I’m going to read every issue listed, but I’m going to read as many as I can (while still enjoying it), and I’m going to make sure that at the very worst, I’ll sample from each run. Also, I just can’t read everything because DCUI has a lot of gaps in its Action Comics library and there’s probably other issues of Adventure Comics and Action Comics that feature Supergirl, but what I listed are the major runs available to me.

As of right now, I’m going to focus on the Supergirl stories that happened in the main DCU continuity, which means unfortunately right now AU comics like Gotham City Garage, Bombshells, and the Dark Knights of Steel aren’t on my list, even if they are fantastic.

I’m specifically a fan of Kara Zor-El, but I wanted to read the Matrix and Linda Danvers runs, especially because they’re actually the versions of Supergirl that were around when I first got into her.

IF you’re a hardcore Supergirl fan, you know what happened to Kara in 1985. I haven’t decided if I want to read Crisis on Infinite Earths for this, but a part of me does feel like it’s an important enough part of Supergirl’s comic history to justify it.

I’m looking forward to having fun with this! And to read a bunch of comics (admittedly of varying degrees of quality) about one of my favorite superheroes!

Do you outline?: no, can't be bothered, and when I can, well, the fic goes off the rails anyway so, no planning only writing

Spicy tangential opinion: I think second lead syndrome is just a result of the audience using the MC as a self-insert rather than seeing the character as another thing unaffected by their ( the audience member's ) own personal agency because honestly I read people's "hot takes" on some male leads and I just "??? did you even watch the show or did you zone out until your favorite pretty face ( 2nd male lead ) came on screen and ignored anything bad/questionable he did??"

Post 3 - Paella

Paella is a regional dish from Spain, originally from the region of Valencia. Today, paella is viewed by Spaniards and foreigners as a symbol of Spanish culture (Anderson, 2013). However, paella is a diverse dish incorporating differing ingredients and recipes due to Spain’s distinct regional foodscapes. However, there is a very strict criteria for paella to be considered authentic (Evans, 2024). According to Vidal-González et al. (2022), the ingredients of “true Paella Valenciana” includes water, rice, olive oil, salt, chicken, rabbit, garrofo beans, ferradura beans, tomato, and saffron. 

Paella’s significance has evolved over time and place, from initially being a dish for field workers to being a dish of celebration and having prominence at parties. Furthermore, the dish has travelled internationally, gaining popularity globally. For instance, paella has been adapted and assimilated into Australian culinary culture. As seen in Figure 1, a recipe for paella using notable different ingredients compared to true Paella Valenciana, can be found in an Australian cookbook. For instance, the inclusion of seafood replacing rabbit was the most noticeable difference.

Interestingly, the only form of paella I recall eating has come from a tinned can. As seen in Figure 2, tinned paella can be found in supermarkets across Australia, and the world.

The tinned paella is noticeably different to true Paella Valenciana, including ingredients such tuna and vegetables, and lacking chicken, rabbit, beans, and saffron. This makes me doubt if I have ever truly eaten an authentic version of paella. According to Evans (2024), Spanish food deserves better than to be served tinned. Although it increases the accessibility and diversity of this particular dish, this diversity can potentially disrupt the memory and tradition of paella.
