So...TROPED is coming to a close. What does that mean exactly?!

TROPED is officially ending on March 10, 2024, the five year anniversary of our first ever post (the start of it all!). As of right now, unless there are HIGH LEVELS of interest in another event (10 or more guaranteed participants), our Horror Exchange Event was our final event. We do not currently have any further events planned, but we will (as always) still be accepting any fics written for any past events or shared with us.

However, even though our last event has been hosted, we still have some exciting things planned to celebrate you, our beautiful community, and the amazing work you have shared with us over the years!

Starting at 8:00pm EST TONIGHT, we will begin nominations for our TROPED Fanfic Awards! A survey will be shared that will allow you to nominate your favourite fics, authors, events, and more! Nominations will be open until December 31, 2023 at 11:59 pm EST. (got a fic or two that you're still hoping to share with TROPED? Get them in before December 31 and maybe you can sneak in a last minute nomination!!)

Also in December, we will be sharing masterlists containing all the fics written for each year of TROPED, so get excited for a blast from the past with some of your favourite fics!

Voting for the nomination based awards will start in January of 2024 (exact date TBD, but we'll be quick about it!). Voting will continue until February 29, 2024 at 11:59 pm EST!

Between March 1st and March 10th, 2024, we will be sharing the winners of the awards, both nomination-based and otherwise! We will decide more what this will look like as we get closer, but rest assured we will be celebrating you and all you have contributed to TROPED in the best way we know how.

On March 10, 2024, we will be officially saying goodbye to the formal, event organizing side of TROPED. From that point forward, our blog will remain a space where we share writing resources, important resources about world events and human rights issues, and we will begin what we're calling The Monthly Mystery Basket, where we will (try our very best to) share a monthly prompt with you (don't mind us if we miss a few lol).

The prompts and other posts will continue as long as we feel inspired to share them, but this space will always be yours. Any fics shared from that point forward should be added to our Non-Anonymous collection, and we will try our best to share them as often as we can. But please, continue to reblog our old posts, our masterlists, or your friends and mutuals posts about their fics that have been shared with us! TROPED is, and has always been, about building a community where we can share our art with each other and celebrate each other. Just because we will be shuttering our events doesn't mean your art should be given any less love!!

As we say goodbye, we hope we can celebrate you and your art, one last time and we hope, if you've been away, you'll come back to celebrate TROPED with us.

We can't wait for what we have planned, and we love you all!

And we have loved every second, all thanks to you!

Sadly, TROPED has come to its natural conclusion. Our writers have moved on to new (and wonderful!) things, and we've decided its time to shutter this blog and bring TROPED to a close. In the coming weeks, we will be compiling a masterlist of every TROPED fic ever written, and we're planning a few little surprises for all of you (TROPED AWARDS!!!)! We cannot thank you enough for coming together to write beautiful stories with us, and we hope you'll still engage with the many, many fics we've collected over the years. While TROPED may not be hosting new events, our stories (YOUR stories) are forever! Make sure to keep your eyes peeled over the next few months for our final celebrations of TROPED, and, of course, of YOU!!

Our TROPED Non-Anonymous collection will remain open for you to include any fics you might write in the future that were inspired by any of our old prompts, any of the tropes we've shared, or just a fic you wrote that made you think of us. We would love to see fics drop into that collection from time to time, so don't be shy! TROPED may be coming to a close, but the two of us are always here to cheer you on!

“You are a group of refugees from a dying space station. Your ship has crash landed on a habitable planet, but the locals aren’t happy about it.” Bellamy hit a button on the tablet and the room was filled with the sounds of screaming and clambering and metal on metal. “You’ve already attempted diplomacy,” he said with a pointed look at Clarke who was about to say something. She deflated and closed her mouth. “You even tried to leave their territory, but they attacked and killed some of your fellow refugees. You’ve retreated back to your ship. It can’t fly but some of its systems are working. You’re surrounded by 300 warriors trying to break in. To escape from The Dropship, you need to find a way to defeat the army within 30 minutes. Start now.”

Clarke & Dante ~2,000 words Modern AU

Summary: For months now, Dante Wallace has been dying in the house on top of the hill.

For months now, Dante Wallace has been dying in the house on top of the hill.

The house is tall and thin, painted a faded gray-blue, and surrounded, with its overgrown garden, by an ancient, wrought-iron fence. The giant oak tree in the front yard grows so leafy and green in spring and summer that the house itself is half-hidden; in winter trembles its bare, gnarled branches with every bitter gust of wind. So it will again in a few weeks' time. But for now it is fall.

Every afternoon, Clarke Griffin, only two years out of nursing school and barely twenty-six years old, climbs up the hill to the Wallace house and sits with Dante, and takes care of him, and talks with him when he's up for it. He's taught her how to play chess, says she takes to it like a natural-born strategist. Sometimes she wheels his TV into his bedroom and they watch documentaries about American history and Imperial Rome and the great Impressionist artists of France.

This particular Wednesday is clear and warm from the sun, a golden autumn afternoon that does not feel like the end of October, the edge of Halloween. Half of the golden yellow and orange leaves have fallen down from the neighborhood trees, and as Clarke trudges up the incline, she shuffles through the fallen leaves so that they swish away before her feet. She breathes in the crisp dirt-undertone scent of them. An occasional strong breeze wafts a few more down, twirling, flitting past her to the ground.

The wind is strong enough to make her pull her jacket close around her as she keys in the code at the gate and then, after a moment, watches it open slowly, creaking, whining with the sound of metal scraping against metal. She slips through, then follows the brick path up to the door, climbs the steps to the porch. The door is unlocked and she lets herself in, as always.

In the hallway, a warm patch of sun falls, rectangular, through the window of the front door and onto the wood flooring, lighting it up gold-brown and warm. And for a moment, Clarke thinks there is something in the quality of that sunlight, the angle of it or the swirl of dust motes through it, that makes her hesitate in the doorway, her hand still on the knob.

the massive, poorly constructed environmental risk that spat all over the Standing Rock Sioux people's treaty rights? that dug up their sacred burial sites? the one where the oil corporation who owned it bought out a private company to do a sham of an "environmental analysis" and never consulted the tribe and STILL didn't actually get approval? the one that's literally operating illegally and without proper permits right fucking now?

surprising absolutely no one, the army corps of engineers this week (September 8, 2023) released an EIS (environmental impact statement) draft for public comment that takes into account absolutely 0 of the tribe's concerns, and in fact did not consult with them once in the process!

they're going to officially approve the pipeline.

I love how different forms of art are all obsessed with each other. A book tries to capture the feeling of music, a painting tries to depict a scene in a book, a song tries to paint a picture. And it's always insufficient. No single form of art can encapsulate another form of art and capture the essence of it – but it tries, and its attempts are impossibly compelling. All the forms of art are in love with each other and spend so much time trying to express what makes the other kinds of art so lovely.
