okay, so I know I don't come onto tumblr much for anything at all, really, except the occasional look around and such, but I have just finished writing what's probably my favorite fic that I've ever written, and I wanted to share it here because of how proud of it I am, so if any 9-1-1 fans and buddie shippers out there are interested...

Buddie Secret Relationship Conspiracy Manifesto
Hello. Welcome to possibly the most delusional buddie theory yet. This is a collaboration with @swiftiebuckleys, and as such I would like to cite our sources accordingly: dude, trust us.
Okay so I know a lot of people have talked about the theory of buddie possibly being in a secret relationship that is even a secret from the audience during season 6. For me, this started during 6A. It started because I was thinking about how 601 started with such a poignant and domestic Buckley-Diaz family scene that, as a part of a premier that was meant to establish where the characters are after four months of hiatus, told us Buck, Eddie and Christopher are living in each other's pockets as their own little family at the start of the season (I even wrote about this in this meta I posted while 6a was airing lmao).
But then for the rest of 6A there really wasn't any significant on-screen buddie or Buckley-Diaz moments, even though there was plenty that was implied at, including: Buck and Eddie planning to go to Marisol's house to help with repairs without the rest of the firefam, Buck and Chris hanging out so Chris potentially telling Buck the secret about skipping school even though he didn't tell Eddie, Buck and Eddie sitting in the back of the waiting room together separate from the rest of the firefam while they waited for news about Karen, and Eddie giving Hoover to Buck and convincing him to keep him even though his building doesn't allow dogs. What do all but one of these moments have in common? They're moments where Buck and Eddie were either alone or away from anyone who would know them from the rest of the gang and wouldn't feel the need to hide their relationship. When at work, Buck and Eddie had a reasonably normal amount of on-screen interactions, but it was only their moments happening outside of work that was pushed to the off-screen. (Bonus: one on-screen 6A moment that lives in my head rent-free and screams of secret relationship is that shot of them stepping into frame together and holding eye contact while the song lyrics in the bg go "I want your sex and your affection when I'm holding you close" in 609.)
However, while this^ is all well and good, it's 6B that really gives the secret relationship theory its wings.
Episode 10 gave us the lightning strike with a sequence that was shot almost entirely from the perspective of Eddie. While in the initial aftermath of the strike we see the shock on Hen, Chimney, and Bobby's faces, the scene is in slow-motion and muted until Eddie realizes what's going on and we watch every minute facial expression on his face as the horror dawns and he snaps into action. Eddie's reaction is what sparks everyone else's movement and then we see him completely forgo his own injuries and his own safety to save Buck. In the secret relationship trope, the near-death experience is a lot of the time what forces the couple to blow their cover and reveal their relationship. That didn't happen here as buddie were already close enough to warrant the strength of Eddie's reaction and Buck was unresponsive and there wasn't any time to lose. HOWEVER, episode 11 and the absence of a scene with Eddie alone at Buck's bedside can be explained by the fact that he couldn't be shone there or his bedside confessions would have given them away to the audience. As it is, other than Margaret and Maddie, Buck's mother and sister, he's the only one dressed in all black, his composure crumbling and unable to make eye contact with Buck's body in the hospital bed, the perfect picture of a grieving widow.
Episode 12 has the infamous couch scene which is meant to signal to the audience that Eddie is the couch Buck has been searching for, even if Buck himself doesn't know it. However, in the context of the secret relationship theory, what if the total lack of reaction from Eddie about Buck falling asleep on his couch is because they already know this?
Episode 13 has the infamous poker scene and this is where the theory actually diverges for a lot of people. Going with the original theory that buddie have been together since before 6A, this would explain Buck's lack of reaction to Eddie telling him to get dressed up and taking him out on what is essentially a date - he wasn't surprised or suspicious because it wasn't unusual. If you go back and watch the scene, you'll notice that it opens right when Buck and Eddie are approaching the door and about to be in the presence of other firefighters, but initially they're walking away from a dark alley while fixing their clothes - why would they need to fix their clothes unless they got messed up in the first place? Why wouldn't they show us the before or after of the poker scene, why only the parts where they're in the presence of other people from the department? Plus, Eddie really was looking TOO blatantly hungry in that entire scene, and he wasn't really hiding it from Buck - maybe because he's allowed, and expected, to look. This isn't even to mention the scenes of Buck, Eddie, and Christopher being a family, but I will go back to those later.
Where this episode splits this theory is the alternate potential for them to have gotten together after the poker game (my initial post after the episode first came out.) This would have been the perfect opportunity because there's really no way that if they weren't already together, the thought that this might be a date hadn't crossed Buck's mind (and, again, Eddie really did look too fucking horny in that scene it wasn't something you could ignore.) The next outside of work scene we see the Buckley-Diaz' in is the baking scene with Buck and Christopher. Eddie's location is completely unknown - he could be on shift, he could be running errands, he could be with Pepa - but the fact that Buck and Chris are together and baking for his class and planning dinner really drives home the fact that they are a family once again. However, the easy confidence of Buck parenting Christopher and the way he glowed with happiness in that moment would make even more sense if he had had his place in the Diaz family as Eddie's partner and Christopher's other parent confirmed to him.
One way to possibly combine the two theories is if we assume that Buck and Eddie were actually fwb throughout 6A (an idea given to me by @captainragtag) but actually got together after the poker scene. ANOTHER way is if we assume they've only been fwb, even after the poker scene. Them being fwb would potentially explain some holes in the theory, moments where they should have had a bigger reaction to something or known something beforehand if they were in a relationship (kind of the sperm donor arc and Eddie's reaction, but that could also be explained by Eddie's lack of reaction being because he already knew and was just pretending to be finding out for the first time with everyone else.)
Going into episode 14, all of these theories could explain the *gestures vaguely* everything about Eddie's storyline in the episode. If they're hiding a relationship, the absence of any mentions of Buck when talking about Eddie (and Christopher) being alone would make sense, especially after how pointedly the previous episode showed that Eddie is always spending his free time with Buck, with or without Christopher. It would also explain Buck's extremely unsubtle date-ruining advice - either they're together and Buck just doesn't want Eddie to go on the date because he doesn't want to share even to keep up pretenses, or they're fwb and Buck is jealous and afraid to lose Eddie and their relationship if Eddie starts actually dating. Also, considering how many pure fanfic tropes the writers have used before, it's safe to assume they have at least a baseline knowledge of how buddie are written by fans and what's the first trope every fanfic reader in this fandom learns about? Christopher's first and foremost wingman duty is to pack his stuff and go to a sleepover so his dads can do unholy things to each other. Christopher being at a sleepover when Pepa told Eddie to come over and him insisting that he was alone at home when just last episode we saw buddie spending all their time off shift together is just a little too sus if you ask me. Another secret relationship moment in the episode is Eddie going for the wrong gear shift in his own car. He initially reached for the gear shift on the center console when that's not where it is in his truck. But do you know where the gear shift is in a jeep? I'll give you one guess. Do we know anyone who owns a jeep? I'll give you another guess. This would make total sense since we know Eddie is a passenger princess and Buck would be driving them everywhere if they were in a relationship. Even when Buck isn't the one driving, Eddie would be much more likely to borrow his car more often if they were in a relationship and basically living together.
If this all doesn't convince you, I would like to leave you with the reminder of a moment that I'm sure has haunted all of us since 614 came out:
Tumblr media
Actors are always aware when they're on camera and even if they aren't, the dozens of production people, including the director, would be. Do with that what you will.
(If anyone has anything they'd like to add to this feel free to message me or send me an ask and I'll make edits! And, I mean, this is all just for fun not to be taken seriously, but if there is a point that you think really brings the theory down also feel free to send me an ask about that lets see if I can provide a suitable explanation.)
edit: another thing to keep in mind as pointed out by the brilliant @swiftiebuckleys is the precedent set by 606 "Tomorrow" for flashbacks showing the start of a relationship.

as we near the end...
so, the week long eddie poll is almost up. honestly, it's been super fun to watch everyone's reactions, everyone's commentary and how some people have voted, etc. I want to go ahead and say thank you to all of those who have participated, and thank you for getting the poll to more than 8k votes. really, that's a lot.
I will be doing the math after the poll ends to count the actual number of votes each eddie received, and I will come back with the results once I finish doing that (even if you are able to see who won the poll– knowing the vote margin is always thrilling).
once again thank you all for participating, it actually means so much to me. <3 I hope you all have an amazing day/afternoon/evening/night, wherever you are in this world. much love.

Eddie Polls Update???
I come on this website 16 hours after posting that to find that my boy Edmundo is supposedly winning? Oh hell yeah, I love life (not that I don't love the others, because I do, but the 9-1-1 hf is bad...also 9-1-1 is my favorite show of all time so I have to be rooting for him (Eddie K (especially 1990 Eddie K) you are forever in my heart and I love you but...))

The Eddie Polls
Hi, and welcome to The Eddie Polls, aka Battle of the Eddies. So, there are four heavily popular fictional characters named Eddie. So, I figure, why not see which one is the overall fan favorite through a week-long poll? (Eddie Diaz and Eddie Kaspbrak, I apologize in advance, for this does not bode well for either of you with I have you up against).
Think long and hard before making your final decision, and pick wisely, for there's no going back.
This should be fun...

The Will Voice™; A MasterDoc.
*To skip straight to content, scroll to the subheading titled 'Background'. If you don't care for the background (what the voice is & means), skip to 'Season 1'.*
If you don't know me, hi. I'm Belle, and I'm (considerably) most well-known for 4 things on Tumblr and Twitter.
(1) My writing, which consists of smaus and fics on AO3.
(2) My analyses, specifically my one over Mike's S4 body language.
(3) My consistent talk of byler/reddie parallels and what I like to call "reddie remix".
(4) My in-depth knowledge of the Will Voice™.
That fourth one is what this is going to be about (and, as this is a masterdoc, it is going to be long).
I've spent a considerable amount of time looking at and listening to the scenes that contain the Will Voice™, by which I mean when I made my first video of it I had to sit through five hours worth of byler scenes, so it's safe to say that I know it pretty well (so well, in fact, that during my initial watch of volume 2 I picked up on the Will Voice™ immediately in the cabin scene (something I'll get into a little later)).
Before I give a full listing of each scene that the voice is used, I'd like to give a bit of background to the voice and how I as an audience member perceive the voice and what I take away from it.
Background.
The Will Voice™ isn't the only Byler voice out there. There is also the Will Voice™ Lite, the Borderline Will Voice™, and the Mike Voice™ (to which the previous versions of apply as well, however I will (potentially) be making a separate masterdoc over it).
What's the difference? How can I tell? What do they each mean?
Obviously there's lots of questions to be asked about the voice, but there's two main ones that can really answer them all, and they're as follows:
What's the difference between each of the versions of the Will Voice™? As I said before, you have the original Will Voice™, the Will Voice™ Lite, and the Borderline Will Voice™. The difference between each of these is simple. The original is the one that is completely the Will Voice™. Strictly and completely and utterly and entirely and only the Will Voice™. Nothing more, nothing less. It's the softest that Mike's voice ever is, and despite the changes he goes through (puberty), it's still that way. Even if it is a little deeper or he can't get it quite as low (quiet), it's still there. The Will Voice™ Lite would be when they're fighting or Mike is talking to Will from a distance but he's still using the Will Voice™. He might be upset and/or he's angry, so he's going to want to yell and raise his voice, but he manages to still keep it very calm and low and quiet despite those feelings that he's having. The best example of this would be during their Rink-O-Mania fight in season 4 right after Will says "And us?" and Mike turns around and asks "What?". That "What?" is the Will Voice™ Lite. As for the Borderline Will Voice™, this would be the hardest to pick out of the three, but if you know the other two then you'll know this one as well. It's when he's not talking about anything too serious or they're not having a serious conversation, there's not too many/high emotions from either of them, but his voice is still in that soft and calm nature. For this, the best example would be in the van scene in season 4 after Will asks how far Nina is from Vegas and Mike says "About another 90 miles. Why?". It's soft and sweet and calm, but it's not the full on Will Voice™ (and that's because of what the Will Voice™ means/was created for/is used for and the reasoning behind it).
But what is the Will Voice™? What does it mean? *skip to end of question for a TLDR* This questions is more of on of an opinion. We're (all of you (fans & viewers) as well as myself) are not the writers nor the creators of the show. We don't know know what it means nor if it's there on purpose (though considering just how much of it there is and that I'm able to create a masterdoc over it, I wouldn't say it's out of the realm of possibilities). So what's my philosophy? The Will Voice™ is a voice that Mike uses only when talking to Will. He only uses it with Will talking to Will about Will (& sometimes himself). Him only using it when talking to Will about Will is probably the most important part when looking at the Will Voice™. Mike generally uses the Will Voice™ when he's concerned for Will. This means that if it seems like Will's not okay and he asks him, he uses the voice (see season 1 episode 8, 'The Upside Down', in which at the hospital when the boys are all in to see Will and Will goes into a coughing fit, Mike pulls out the Will Voice™ and asks the simple words of "You okay?"). He also uses this voice to fill Will with courage and to give him a sense of encouragement and reassurance, but you'll often find that ties into him having some form of worry over Will. But the voice isn't just for Will. It's for himself, too. It is just as important for himself as it is for Will. For Mike, there's also a sense of comfort that it brings him. However, even when he's using it for himself, he's still using it for Will (there's only one time this isn't true, but it is so important and makes everything make that much more sense). It's important to know, too, that the voices (the Will Voice™ & the Mike Voice™) were likely created as coping mechanisms for the both of them– something that Mike started and that Will picked up on, leading them to both have their voices that they only do for one another. So to answer this question in short, the Will Voice™ is a coping mechanism created by Mike for himself and Will that provides them comfort, encouragement, and reassurance.
Now that we've covered the background, I'd like to give a full listing of each versions of the Will Voice™ by season.

"We'll just call the girls afterwards." "I said forget it, Mike, okay? I'm going home." "But– come on, Will." "Move!" "Will, come on! You can't leave, it's raining. Listen, I said I was sorry, alright? It's a cool campaign, it's really cool. We're just...not in the mood right now." "Yeah, Mike! That's the problem. You guys are never in the mood anymore. You're ruining our party." "That's not true!" "Really? Where's Dustin right now? See? You don't know, and you don't even care, and obviously he doesn't either and I don't blame him. You're destroying everything, and for what? So you can swap spit with some stupid girl?" "El's not stupid! It's not my fault you don't like girls! I'm not trying to be a jerk. Okay? But we're not kids anymore. I mean what did you think, really? That we were never gonna get girlfriends? That we were gonna just sit in my basement all day and play games for the rest of our lives?""Will, I was just messing around. Let's finish for real. How much longer is the campaign?" "Yeah. I guess I did. I really did." "Will...Will! Will, come on!"
s3 e4 - The Borderline Will Voice™, Mike's Basement (one of the few exceptions to the rules)
"They're conspiring against me."
s3 e8 - The Original Will Voice™, Will's kitchen
"Yeah, but, what if you want to join another party?"
Season 4
s4 e2 - The Will Voice™ Lite, Rink-O-Mania
"Well what about us?" "What?" "You're mad that I didn't talk to you? Seems like you've made it super clear that you're not interested in anything I have to say." "That's just not true." "You've called maybe a couple times. It's been a year, Mike. Meanwhile, El has like a book of letters from you." "That's because she's my girlfriend, Will." "And us?" "We're friends! We're friends." "Well we used to be best friends!" "Well then maybe you should've reached out more. I– I don't know, but why is this on me? Why– why am I the bad guy?"
s4 e4 - The Original Will Voice™, Will's bedroom
"I have no idea what's gonna happen next, but whatever it is, I think we should work together. I think it'll be easier if we're a team...friends...best friends."
s4 e8 - The Original Will Voice™ & The Borderline Will Voice™, The van
"As long as Suzie's coordinates are right, about another 90 miles. Why?" ... "This is amazing. Did you paint this?" ... "...and she always will." "Yeah?" "Yeah."
s4 e9 - The Original Will Voice™, The cabin
"And we will. We will."
Now that we've gone over every scene that it's used, let's go over how what this means for some of those scenes.
The Analysis, Pt. 1
For this section, I will be talking specifically about seasons 3 & 4, because seasons 1 & 2 are straight to the point and self-explanatory with its use, whereas 3 & 4 get a little more off the beaten path at certain points. In the rain fight, you have Will getting upset with Mike (and Lucas) for their sarcasm during the campaign, clearly not having any real interest at the moment, causing Will to be upset (and understandably so). Will turns off the music, takes off his costume, beginning to gather his things to go home, but Mike doesn't want him to. Sure, you could just say that it's him feeling bad. After all, this is his best friend. Who wouldn't feel bad if they made their best friend upset? The thing is, though, that he makes the decision, whether consciously or not, to use the Will Voice™, and oh my god does it piss me off. Not because he shouldn't use it. He, by all means, should use it, and in fact I would have liked him to use it more in seasons 3 & 4, but that's the exact reason why it makes it so glaringly obvious in the fight that the reason he's using it is because he's being genuine in his apology. The only time Mike doesn't use it during this fight is when El is brought up. All of this is to say that during this fight Mike wanted Will to stay, that he wanted to fix things, that he didn't want Will to leave (further proved by him following Will out of his house and to his garage, pausing his leaving for a minute before he did leave, only to follow him to his house and pound on his door before going out into the woods where he does, in fact, find Will, but really, who's keeping track?)
When it comes to season 4, a very similar but also different thing happens in the Rink-O-Mania fight. First, Mike doesn't start off using the voice, which is our first contrast from the rain fight. This is because he's talking about El, not Will. Then that switches IMMEDIATELY when Will says "Well what about us?" I mean, the next words out of Mike's mouth are in the Will Voice™ Lite. That's not the last of it, either. If you'll notice, too, he only switches back to his normal voice again when El is mentioned, and uses his normal voice when talking about her, thus furthering that the voice is meant for Will. This is important here, though, because it shows that Mike is meaning what he's saying when he refutes Will's claim about him not caring what he has to say. It's important when talking about Mike saying "Well then maybe you should've reached out more" because, when taking into account Dustin saying Mike was always complaining about how he could never get through to the Byers household because of Joyce's telemarketer job (and he uses Cerebro to talk to El because the government can listen in on their phone calls), he did reach out, insinuating that Will is the one who didn't, or at least didn't as much (something that is all but confirmed for us in the Van Scene). It's important because it tells us, the viewers, that Mike cares more than Will knows, he's just not voicing it correctly.
Lastly, I'd like to talk about his use of it in the Van Scene itself. Now, these scene is, first and foremost, about Will, his feelings for Mike, and him being gay. Apart from his feelings for Mike, it has strikingly little to do with Mike. However, we do see into Mike's mind a bit with this scene at a few different points, so let's break it down.
The Van Scene, Pt. 1
MIKE'S FIRST LINE IN SEASON 4, VOLUME 2, IS IN THE WILL VOICE™, FULLY AND COMPLETELY, HIS MATURED VERSION OF THE ORIGINAL (only it wasn't the original, it was borderline), AND I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH AND HOW IMPORTANT THIS IS.
Like, okay, look, I'm not one to hang on to insignificant scenes within TV shows, because it doesn't really do anything for me most of the time. However, this line is just so..."As long as Suzie's coordinates are right, about another 90 miles. Why?" I mean, what was the need or the reason behind him saying it like that? There was nothing going on, the conversation was completely apart from any serious topic at all, (but still having to do with the both of them), and yet he said it like that? Oh, I am at the writer's mercy with this one (which says a lot, considering the end of the Van Scene, something much more dear to me). Really, it just goes to show how much Mike cares for Will, and how much he's worrying over him (even if he doesn't necessarily realize it).
Not too long after this, though, Will gives him the painting. Mike's face lights up at the sight. I mean, he canonically has a binder full of Will's art, and has kept up at least some of his artwork hung up throughout every single season. That is something. So now, after several months of no artwork and little contact with Will, he has what's probably the best painting that he's ever scene (I mean, it's not like he's taking trips to the Louvre to see the Mona Lisa). His words, though..."This is amazing! Did you paint this?" I mean, really Mike? The Original Will Voice™? Why must you do this to me? You're pulling at my heartstrings, friend. Like, the sheer desperation in his voice and need for it to have come from Will, and then his face after Will says El commissioned it, how he's not even smiling anymore...I mean, just look at this kid, because these four snapshots say all that they need to:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ Before Will said that El commissioned it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ After Will said that El commissioned it.
MOVING ON!
The Van Scene, Pt. 2
I need for everyone to take a minute before reading this next part because it may become very incomprehensible because I kind of lose it over this next part. Okay, are we good? Good. Let's get into it.
Here's what I wrote about this 8 days after Vol.2 came out:
"The painting scene in and of itself is very Will centric. This is clear through, first and foremost, the painting (obviously). However, as confirmed in interviews, his monologue about El also shows this because he was, in fact, talking about himself. What does this have to do with Mike? At the end of Will's monologue, Mike uses his Will Voice™ when he asks Will "Yeah?" (referring to El always needing him (the yeah was yeahing by the way)). But here's the thing. If you've read through my other thread, you'll know I mentioned something very specific about this voice: Mike only uses his Will Voice™ when talking to Will, about Will. Notice I said "to" and "about". By simply watching the video with the majority of the Will Voice™ scenes, it's clear that's true. So why is that important here? Taking into account Will is talking about himself (El being his cover), and Mike only uses his Will Voice™ when talking to Will about Will, does that not prove that Mike knows that, at some point at the very least (even if subconsciously**), Will was talking about himself? Additionally, Mike generally uses this to reassure Will, but from the s3 fight we're able to find that, while true, he also uses it for himself. I'll explain it this way: Mike created the Will Voice™ as a coping mechanism for both of him and Will. (An interesting/fun addition: It's been well established at this point that Mike does, in fact, have a Will Voice™. but what if I told you that Will has a Mike Voice™, too? Now it's not used very much and, to that extent has less footage, but it's still there (back to the thread)). Mike's use of his Will Voice™ in the van in the painting scene shows us that he's looking for reassurance from Will over what exactly his monologue was about. (**Does he know this? Probably not. They were all high on emotions (Argyle literally high), so it's unlikely he realizes it.) That being said, I don't think Will *knows* there's a Will Voice™ that Mike does for him. If he did, things would be very different between them (imo). All of this goes without saying this is my personal opinion and you are free to disagree (just know you're wrong (joking)).
— transcribed from my Twitter, reidsbuckley, and to be found here: The Yeah Was Yeahing.
Note that I partially disagree with my statement about Will not knowing about the WIll Voice™, which I will explain further down, but it is what I believed at the time.
So basically, the yeah was yeahing.
I know that I have said this before, and I know that I haven't explained it out super well, but I'll tell you this: upon my realization that Mike does this, I had a three hour breakdown. Needless to say, it's pretty important.
At the very end of the Van Scene, after Will says "El needs you, Mike, and she always will," Mike says the line "Yeah?" in the Original Will Voice™, changing the trajectory of my life. I mean, he could have said it in any way that he wanted to, but he chose to use the Will Voice™, a voice that I know based on the Mike Voice™ that Will has picked up on, a voice in which Will responds with a "Yeah" in to Mike's "Yeah?"– do you see why this causes me so much distress? I mean, okay, yeah, say the word "yeah", I'm all for it, but was the Will Voice™ necessary? Well, I have an answer. The Duffers said that Mike has some sort of understanding of what Will was saying, but that he wasn't all there yet, meaning that the use of the Will Voice™ proves that Mike sometimes uses the voice subconsciously and without even thinking about it because it just comes natural to him, meaning that his subconscious picked up on what Will was saying but he still doesn't consciously understand yet.
Thus, the yeah was yeahing.
Not to mention his face when he says it??????
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ Bonus points for his face after Will says "Yeah" in his Mike Voice™ in response.
So! That about wraps up the Will Voice™ Masterdoc. If you made it this far, props to you for reading. I'm really proud of this (and the six months that it took me (lack of motivation really alters the time you spend on things)), and if you are looking for more information/where this all stems from you can check out the links below that will direct you to my Twitter account. Much love. <3

*clears throat* so today on twitter I stumbled across a tweet (my friend quoted it) that had to do with a will voice™ tiktok that had, like, over 10k likes (I don't remember the exact number, but there was a 5 in either the tens or ones place), which reminded me of the masterdoc, and I've decided to continue working on that (I think I've gotten close to the end with s2 on it?), so!!!!!

masterdoc update!
hey y'all, it's belle. I know I've been ia for a while, but I was working on my mental health (it gets really bad during the winter months). I'm still working on the masterdoc, although it's going to take a while. I think I've only gotten to, like, season 2 and that I'm only a few episodes into it. there's a lot that I have to go over and cover, so it's going to take some time. trust the process, though. we'll get there eventually.

hello, hello, a little bit of an update I guess.
I'm still planning on posting my will voice master doc (it's a very, very long work in progress), and I'll likely be moving onto here as my main platform or instagram if/when twitter goes down because *elon musk* (but that's not something I have the energy to get into right now).
as for my posts, they'll mostly probably stay the same on this acc and my alternative acc will act more like my twitter usually is (just, you know, minus half the stuff I usually use on the godforsaken app).

today I got to thinking about the season 4 dynamics and how that relates to their roles as "the author and the artist", and wow. you'd think that I'm just going to explain why it makes sense for will to be the artist and for mike to be the writer, but that is not the case. I'm going to split this up into 3 parts:
the s4 dynamics in regards to "the author and the artist"
what we're shown about them in s1-3
how s1-3 differ from s4 and why that makes s4 so important
[1] from the beginning mike and will have been established in the author and artist roles (respectively), as we're shown that mike creates the campaigns (requiring writing and storytelling, as well as attention to detail (this will become important later)) while will is shown doing...art. pretty simple, right?
but what's interesting is how in season 4 will is the one to take on both the roles of the author and the artist. he becomes them both. this is shown through will's constant reassurance given to mike. mike being the writer, he's supposed to be good with words (and he is), but will is the one giving mike advice on what to say? interesting, no?
and then, of course, there's the painting scene. it says enough on its own, but will explains it anyway, once again becoming the author and artist at once. he's taking on the roles for the both of them (likely because he feels mike slipping away, but that's a conversation for another time).
[2] taking this into consideration, let's look at seasons 1-3.
now, in season 1 the first thing we're shown of the boys is them playing a dnd campaign that mike made (not will). he created it and made it up in his head. he wrote the story. he was established as the author. will is shown in a flashback scene to be drawing himself as his dnd character 'will the wise' and shooting fireballs. he was established as the artist. and this holds true throughout the seasons.
in season 2, will does more art when he's possessed as the mind flayer. he draws the tunnels- the hivemind- and creates a map of them. it's well enough that bob is able to piece things together and help them find hopper.
season 3 is when we see will break out of his shell just a little bit more. sure, he's still pretty much the basic characterization of this shy quiet kid who values his friends more than anything else in the world, but he begins to speak up more (especially shown during the rain fight, as well as when he begins to sort of teach everyone everything that they need to know, a slight contrast to season 2 when mike explained the thing about d'artagnan to everyone, but the still sort of go back and forth a little at some points).
in season 2, however, there's still another important piece of the puzzle I have yet to cover. throughout the season, we have mike constantly looking over will's shoulder, worrying. but he's good with words, so he's able to reassure him. it works. but one thing about his worrying stands out above all else.
mike: he's quiet today lucas: he's always quiet
but wait, I thought will was the one in season 4 who was reassuring mike the whole time and talking more than anyone else in the cali plot and– oh.
[3] mike knows will better than anyone, so much so that despite will always being quiet, he knows when something's wrong based on how quiet will is being. but not only that, the line insinuates that will isn't quiet when it's just him and mike, and that's true.
if will were to always be quiet, then in season 4 he surely wouldn't be the one to talk the most, right? but if will is more open and comfortable when it's just him and mike, then it makes sense. it makes sense that we're shown mike to be quiet and unsure when it's just the two of them rather than the other way around. that makes sense. mike chooses to, in the times that will wants to talk, listen to him.
how does this affect season 5? well, if will took on the roles of the author and the artist in season 4, then mike is going to have to take back on that author role. but as they're in an apocalypse, I don't think they'll be doing any dnd campaigns. so what does this mean? pocket theory!
probably one of my favorite theories, the pocket theory summarized is there's a letter in the pocket of mike's blue shirt from s4. and a letter requires words and writing and if there were to be a letter in that pocket, boom. there it is. mike wheeler will once again be in the author position when he's by his artist's side. the author and the artist.
full circle.

thinking about it now, mike probably called the byers's home in lenora after a long day at school or during the middle of the day just to talk, to not feel all that pressure of high school, and the phone just didn't get answered.
but when it did get answered, it was almost always joyce on the other end saying "they're still at school", because timezones exist. joyce would tell him to call back in X amount of hours, but by then mike would already be getting ready for bed (karen would make him, we all know it).
so those few times that mike and will did get on the phone with each other were special, and mike probably holds them dear to his heart. taking that into account when looking at their fight this season...slowly, things start to make more and more sense.
"that's just not true!" was mike's truth. he did and does care for what will has to say, and he always will.

it's been a while, but I was watching an edit and it made me want to do this, so...
murray's jancy speech in s2 as byler
"okay. I'm confused. what's going on here? lover's quarrel?" -> "and us?"/"we're friends! we're friends!"/"well we used to be best friends!"
"you've told me a lot of shockers today, but that? that is the first lie." -> "did you paint this?"/"yeah! y-yeah, I mean, el...she commissioned it. told me what to draw, basically."
"no? you're young, attractive; you've got chemistry, history." -> "do you remember the day we met? it was the first day of kindergarten...so I went up to you and...and I asked. I asked if you wanted to be my friend, and you said yes. you said yes...it was the best thing I've ever done."
(this next one is a long bit, so prepare yourselves)
"plus, the real shit, shared trauma" -> "the demogorgon. it got me."/"that's not will"/"we find will!"/"that's not will...it can't be"/"you were supposed to help us find him alive!"/"will? will, is that you?"/"it's about will. over."/"no, not his funeral"/"hey, you okay?" "it got me. the demogorgon."/"are you okay?" "yeah, I just...I needed some air."/"he's quiet today"/"mike? mike!" "will, are you okay? I couldn't find you are- are you hurt? ... I'm gonna get you home, okay? I'm gonna get you home ... I got him! I got him."/"sometimes, I feel like I'm going crazy" "me too" "hey, well, if we both go crazy, we'll go crazy together, right?" "yeah. crazy together."/"is will here? ... is he okay?"/"we won't let him."/"hey. are you okay?" "yeah" "are you sure?" "of course"/"will, are you okay? what happened?" "he's back"/"we have to kill him." "and we will. we will."
"trust issues. am I right? something to do with your dad. it is a curse to see so clearly." -> "lonnie used to say he was queer..."/"he's not coming, is he?"/"in case you forgot what he looks like"/"you never cared about him!"
"and you. you're harder to read. probably, like everyone, afraid of what would happen if you accepted yourself for who you really are" -> "I don't want you to feel like you have to hide anything from me"/"it was the best thing I've ever done"/"it's not my fault you don't like girls!"/"max and lucas and dustin...they're great. they're great, it's just...it's hawkins. it's not the same without you."/"I guess I felt like maybe I lost you or something."/"a team...friends...best friends."
note: for these next two, I am not saying mike does not love el, because he does, but that love doesn't necessarily have to be romantic.
"and retreated back to the safety of...name? name! ... steve! (el) we like steve (el), but we don't love steve (el)." -> "you were talking to max" "that was a while ago. I don't really remember"/"you never say it!" "I say it." "you can't even write it, mike."/"like a fight that you can't come back from."/"it's not fate, it's not destiny, it's just simple dumb luck."
"and that, ladies and germs, is the second lie of the evening" -> "don't stop. you're the heart, mike. you're the heart!" "I love you"/"its was the best thing I've ever done." "my life started that day we found you in the woods."
take this all as you will, and don't shoot the messenger. I'm simply putting it all together. <3
