came back wrong trope with the character watching as their family tries to reconcile who they were with what they are now and failing. their loved ones unable to accept that they are different now, that the person they once were is dead. the character never being able to mend bridges with their family because they want who they were back, not them.

something that never fails to bring me close to tears in a fic: comforting the dying. the ultimate angst of another character comforting the dying character in their final moments, knowing nothing is going to save them. choking back their grief to provide any degree of comfort to the person they love most in the world as they lay dying, desperately reassuring them that they won’t die alone.
