Ok so apparently everyone's birthday just fly over my head so
I completely forgot about Bakugou's birthday today lmfao (love ya man, that was my bad)
My contribution for his birthday, whenever I get it done, will be angst.
If you couldn't tell I'm like half asleep right now desperately trying to cling onto the will to write just to try and work on this angst (it also goes along with my mha au series >:P)
Ta ta and have a fabulous day/night/whatever time it is wherever your home is

everyone: what's your goal in life?
me: to write a story so soul snatching, so gut wrenching and so devastatingly beautiful that it leaves you crying at 3am when you have a 8am lecture/shift and it inspires people to write entire essays, to write entire fanfics, mood boards and playlists based on it.

Part 3 of my "What If...? (HXV & VXH) (MHA)"!
About five years prior to Izuku Midoriya being rendered Quirkless and four years prior to the All Might incident, Hisashi Midoriya, a soon-to-be father, was out patrolling the streets as the no. 3 Pro Hero. Most people tended to skirt around him, as he kept up a more standoffish attitude out in public, but some people stood and watched him in awe. Despite this facade, he still had a soft spot for kids and conversed with them whenever they approached.
That’s why when he heard the whimpering cries of a child from an alley he was passing by, he needed to go looking.
It only took a few steps into the alley before Hisashi found the source of the cries, and his heart squeezed at the sight before him.
A boy no older than five cast off in the darkness. A beating heart left to die in a world enraptured by those known as ‘heroes’.
Hisashi immediately swooped down, trying to look over the boy for any injuries, but the boy shied away from his touch.
“D-don’t touch me!” the boy hiccuped as he quickly raised his hands up in defense. Hands stained with blood. “I don’t wanna hurt you too!”
“You won’t hurt me. I trust you,” Hisashi murmured as soothingly as he could as he tried to calm the fragile child down. “Is it because of your Quirk? Did something happen to you?”
The boy nodded and sniffled as he wiped his face with the palms of his hands. “They… they all crumbled under my touch…”
It involves his hands, Hisashi thought. In an attempt to help, he slipped off his specially designed gloves for his hero costume and gently tugged them onto the boy’s hands. The boy in question attempted to resist at first, but then just stopped and watched as Hisashi helped him.
Once the gloves were on, Hisashi gave the boy the sweetest and softest and warmest smile he could muster as he pulled back. “Go ahead,” he whispered, his whisper feeling like a mother’s gentle caress to the boy’s heart.
The boy tentatively reached out and touched a stray can strewn about in the alley, and three of his fingers ran across the slick and smooth metal surface as the other two fingers only felt the slightly rough fabric of the gloves he now wore. To his surprise and utter relief, the can didn’t crumble and blow away. A shaky breath left him, and he looked up at Hisashi.
Hisashi’s smile grew even bigger when he saw a soft glint of light and joy begin to sparkle in the young one’s eyes, albeit a bit small, the shines were.
“What’s your name?” Hisashi asked softly, gently brushing aside and tucking some of the boy’s black-colored hair behind his ears.
“Tenko,” the boy spoke shakily still, but his voice carried a bit more confidence than contained before, “Tenko Shimura.”
Hisashi’s heart squeezed at the mention of the last name Shimura. He pushed the feelings aside, however; he needed to protect this kid.
“Tenko, can you trust me? I want to help you.”
He held his hand out for Tenko with a soft yet almost pleading look. Tenko looked at the outstretched hand, then at Hisashi’s face, then back to the hand. After a brief moment, as Hisashi’s attention was away from Tenko and was instead focused on their surroundings, making sure they weren’t being followed or anything, he felt a shaking gloved hand slip into his larger and firmer hand.
“I… trust you…”
The voice was meek and quiet, but Hisashi could make out the words clearly despite the hustle and bustle going on outside of the alley. Outside of their little world. Hisashi smiled, and he gently squeezed the small hand in his grip.
“You won't regret it, little Tenko.”
--
Finally making it through the wild streets, Hisashi made it to the nearest police station, a drained Tenko in his arms. With a soft tostle of the boy’s black hair, he softly settled Tenko down into one of the waiting chairs before quickly going to the front desk. Nobody was there at the moment, and Hisashi almost started pacing from the sudden stress he felt.
“Hello? Is someone-?”
A sudden voice spoke, startling Hisashi slightly, and he quickly looked up at whoever it was. A man who looked a bit young - almost looking as if he was a teen - was standing stiffly as he looked agape at Hisashi. He noticed a tag on the man’s shirt that read ‘Tsukauchi - Intern’.
“Excuse me!” Hisashi started, practically barreling into the poor man as he went to grab ahold of the man’s shoulders. “Do you know anyone around to help me? I need to look into this young boy’s records to find him a home.”
Hisashi nodded his head toward Tenko, who was curled up on the seat he had been set into and was playing with the gloves on his hands. Tsukauchi stammered, his eyes wide as he looked up at Hisashi.
“Y-you’re All For One!” he finally managed to get out and was too stunned from even having this encounter to comprehend what Hisashi was asking.
Hisashi sighed and mentally cursed himself. He then shook Tsukauchi slightly. “Can you help me or not?!”
He felt a little guilty for the harsh way his words came out, but he figured it would help the intern snap out of it; he needed to be prepared for the line of work he wanted to enter. Tsukauchi blinked, slowly coming to. He then nodded firmly and stood straight.
“Yes, sir!”
With a sigh of relief and a pat on Tsukauchi’s shoulder, Hisashi let him go as he stepped back. “Good man.”
“So you want to look at all of the boy’s records?” Tsukauchi asked as he slipped behind the front desk and signed into the computer.
Hisashi nodded, and he took a deep breath. “I’m sure he could tell me things, but I think something happened to his family, and I don't want to put any more mental strain on him than we have to at the moment.”
“Name?”
“Tenko Shimura.”
Hisashi swallowed as he said the last name, and even Tsukauchi visibly winced at the mention. Tenko looked up, confused, but didn't ask any questions and eventually went back to playing with his gloves. With a few clicks and taps of the keyboard, the intern managed to find and pull up Tenko’s records, which both he and Hisashi looked over.
“Tenko Shimura, age 5. Birthday is April 4; he’ll be turning six soon,” Hisashi murmured, a hand resting on his chin as he leaned over Tsukauchi’s shoulder to read as well.
“Quirk: Decay. Anything he touches with all five of his fingers immediately crumbles and turns to dust…”
Tsukauchi’s tone of voice quickly dissolved into a horrified choking noise as he first looked at Hisashi, then at the boy curled up on one of the chairs. “Oh god.”
Hisashi breathed, rubbing his face with his hands as the harsh realization set in. “First, we’re going to have to send a team to wherever his home address is and have them look around. Secondly, despite how much I don’t want to, we’re going to have to question the boy…”
He looked over at Tenko, who had seemingly fallen asleep. His heart ached; Tenko looked so peaceful, his face relaxed in his sleep.
“Who’re his parents?”
Tsukauchi clicked through a few different things before pulling up a housing file. He turned the monitor to let Hisashi see clearer.
“Mother: Nao Shimura. Father: Kotaro Shimura. Sister: Hana Shimura. Maternal grandmother and grandfather: Chizuo and Mako Magi. Those were the people he lived with,” Tsukauchi muttered, scratching his face nearing one of his eyes. “It has his address, too. I can quickly run this to one of the teams if you want me to. I can also grab someone to talk to the boy.”
“Thank you. That would be much appreciated,” Hisashi smiled, and he patted Tsukauchi on the shoulder as they both stood up straight. “I’ll put in a good word for you. So long as you don’t freeze up and go into shock every time you see me.”
Tsukauchi puffed a little out of embarrassment, but he nodded. “Thank you, sir. I’ll go right away!”
And with that, the intern ran off, leaving Hisashi in the front of the police station. With a sigh, Hisashi sat in the seat Tenko was seated in and slipped the boy into his lap, although he accidentally jostled him and awoke Tenko, who panicked slightly.
“Shhh, shh, hey, it’s okay, I’m sorry,” Hisashi did his best to try and make Tenko realize that he was okay and that he wasn’t in danger. “Breathe, you’re okay.”
Hisashi took one of Tenko’s hands in his, gently rubbing his hand through the glove, as he felt the boy begin to shake. He knew the boy was realizing this wasn’t just a nightmare that he could wake up from. He understood completely.
“I’m here, baby,” Hisashi murmured, breathing into Tenko’s hair as he cuddled the boy close to keep him warm. “Everything’ll be okay; I’m here…”
--
“It’s not much, but Inko and I prepared all of this as soon as we talked it over with the police that we wanted you to stay here.”
Hisashi, with the widest grin on his face, gently pushed open the door to reveal the bedroom to Tenko. The walls were a pale, dusty blue color; the bed had warm earthy colored sheets drawn up to make it so the bed was cleanly made; there was a dark oak dresser positioned against one of the walls with a few pairs of clothing tucked into the drawers.
“We tried our best, but-”
Hisashi started talking again, but he quickly cut himself off with an ‘oomph!’ as Tenko’s small form suddenly wrapped around him. His eyes widened as he heard the little whimpers and felt the soft and wet tears soaking into his pant leg.
“I-it’s perfect…” Tenko cried, hiccuping a little. “Thank you!”
The man was startled; surprised. Sure, he probably should’ve expected this reaction, but he hadn’t. Not at all. He scooped up Tenko into his arms, and cradled him as the boy cried.
“Hey, hey, there’s no need to cry!”
Hisashi sighed as Tenko quickly tried to wipe his tears away after Hisashi’s words. He set Tenko down on the bed before sitting next to him, the bed sinking under their weight a bit. He brushed his fingers through the black hair of the boy, and Tenko almost instinctively leaned into Hisashi as he did so.
“This is your home now,” Hisashi spoke quietly, yet loud enough to be heard over Tenko’s soft sniffles. “Inko and I want you to be able to start anew. You don’t have to call us Mom and Dad, but we hope to be as close to those figures as we possibly can be.”
Tenko didn’t reply, so Hisashi continued.
“You can change and add onto this room however you like. We’ll try our best to suit you and make this place your home, as it will be when my and Inko’s baby is born.”
That was what made Tenko perk up.
“You’re having a baby?”
Hisashi nodded, chuckling a bit as he saw Tenko’s wide eyes. “Indeed, Tenko. You’ll be an older brother, in a sense.”
Tenko’s heart skipped a little beat, and his face dropped as a sense of worry befell him. “Oh.”
“What’s wrong?”
Tenko sniffled, and tears started to well up again in those soft, dark brown eyes of his. He rubbed at his tear-stained face with his gloved hands as his nose flushed red from the tears. “I-I hurt my sister…
What if I hurt your baby too?”
Hisashi’s heart squeezed as Tenko’s voice cracked. His own eyes stung and quickly became bloodshot as he watched this broken boy break down before him. A lump formed in his throat, a slightly choked sob escaping his own lips.
Maybe I’m not cut out for this after all, Hisashi thought bitterly as he watched Tenko cry defeatedly.
“That… wasn’t your fault, Tenko…” he muttered, and he slowly reached one of his hands out - a shaking hand. Tenko flinched away from the hand, and he buried his face into his new pillow, sobbing pitifully. Hisashi groaned inwardly. His feelings were difficult enough; he couldn’t handle this. He was failing already.
“Tenko, please, it wasn’t your fault,” Hisashi nearly pleaded, his voice cracking and squeaking. Tenko looked up a little from his pillow, only to see tears spilling slowly from Hisashi’s pinkish eyes. Hisashi didn’t notice Tenko looking, however, and he sat with his shoulders hunched as his lip quivered slightly.
Tenko sat up quietly, and he gingerly hugged Hisashi, making sure to not touch him at all even though his hands were gloved. Hisashi stiffened slightly, and his watery eyes widened.
“Thank you for everything… Dad…”
A pang to the heart. Hisashi scooped up Tenko, and he buried his face into Tenko’s raven locks as he cried freely.
“You’re welcome, son.”
