It looks exactly like it did 22 years ago... except strangely brighter now that my age is showing and my sight is fading. When I was 16 I never realized how beautiful it was. It was just the only place to go... a haven for the outcasts and stoners and loners; a hot, dry, high desert canyon full of misfits and laughter. We went there to escape. We were all running from something. Our parents, school, the cops, the "cool kids"... out here there was freedom, if nothing else. I suppose those memories make it seem more magical now in a way it never did back then. Back then it was just a place to hide.
