[Komaeda didn’t deserve it.]
I was inspired by @mostladylikeladythateverladied and that post. However, I’ll cover different period of time. SDR2, later maybe?
A lot of people talked about how unfair class 77th treated Komaeda before events od SDR2 or even bomb’s accident involving Seiko. It’s understandable. He tried to help them even if he used wrong methods to do it. We focus mostly on him because his character is really well developed. His struggles were shown on the same level as Hinata’s and Chiaki’s in Despair Side.
“Why Komaeda was treated far worse than the others? He was innocent!”
Random Anonymous Fangirl
I want to take different insight on this matter.
We are only human. We aren’t capable of liking everyone and treating the same way. It’s an unconsious selection we are doing in our minds. It’s someone’s behaviour which starting to interest us, their clothes, their talents, their character and little details like their smell or tone of the voice. All those facts matters.
Komaeda has everything which is needed to be likeable.
He looks good as Genocider stated, he is fashionable which proves his profile in artbook. He seems calm and composured at first and in short-term contact he can act like a nice person without showing his “true colours”. His short relationship with Seiko proves that.
Then, what exacly went wrong?
His tactlessness is partially to blame, of course. He was using every ocassion to brought up his main goal. It’s not only creepy but also making people around uncomforable. If you were constantly reminded how earth’s safety was depending on how good you are doing things, weren’t you feel pressured or annoyed?
Still, the worst was his attitude. He was consequently distancing himself by his low-eestem. Komaeda wasn’t even trying to hide that he treated himself as worse than the others. It’s just annoying to deal with someone who everytime you try to talk is saying something along the line they aren’t worth it. It’s like this “friend” which is crying over how fat she is but she isn’t. One time, you are trying to comfort her, next time too, maybe even third time but at some point you just don’t feel like doing it. It’s like a repetitive circle which will never ends. It’s not like we are really close to help each other.
Naegi was in the same situation as him but he managed to be liked by many people in his class… Yet, Komaeda’s name could be easily wiped out and put Mikan in his place. Their cases are really similar.
Komaeda isn’t looking for a pity and attention which is Mikan’s main goal. It’s easier to accept someone who seems hurt and delicate rather than a maniac.  Only Hiyoko treats her equally as everyone or even worse. I feel Hiyoko treat them differently because for her Komaeda doesn’t seem like a “attention wh*re”. It’s also a fact Komaeda’s is disliked by everyone while Tsumiki only by her.
What about the others?
It’s simple. We aren’t forced to like everyone and talk with them. 77th Class wasn’t acting like a class to begin with. All of them were focusing on their own talents with some which attended to class. While they started coming, first barrier was shown. Sonia was alone, Hiyoko was feeling comfortable with Mahiru, Nekomaru was looking after Akane, Souda tried to get Sonia’s attention, Gundham was interested in his animals, Fuyuhiko ignored everyone despite Peko, Ibuki and Teruteru carefree talked with everyone but they weren’t in anyone’s longer attention. While Chiaki was spending time alone on games. There wasn’t anyone feeling a need to talk with him or had a reason to. It’s Hinata who made a difference.
What I’m pointing out is that in the beginning everyone except Mahiru/Hiyoko and Fuyuhiko/Peko were alone.
Their relationships progressed as Despair Side was progressing. Sonia and Gundham found their matching interest, Akane started training with Nekomaru, Souda formed weak brotherly bond with Teruteru, Ibuki were more interested into spending time in the class. All of them a little opened up incluenced by Yukizome but the one who changed the most was Chiaki.
She wasn’t popular. She was mostly ignored because she wasn’t saying anything. If Komaeda wouldn’t talk as much as he is, he would probably end up as her. Invisible. Yet, when she showed up her interest in class she showed her best side and they accepted it.
“Lucky Accidents”
We all know about Komaeda’s talent and it surely influenced Souda the most. While Gundham never blamed Komaeda’s for his dog dissapearing, Souda was sure who’s fault that was. While Komaeda never was exacly sure what will happen because of his talent and decisions, Souda isn’t one of those silent people who would swallow it and try to understand. Especially, if he was more than once injured because of it. It’s only one more reason to dislike Komaeda and avoiding him.
To be fair, Souda is also treated very coldly. Sonia has a point to dislike him even if as a princess she should be more considerate. She probably had many fans in Novoselic Kingdom. I guess she was tired of it. There is also a fact all her fans weren’t spending time so close to her. Well, it’s just Souda can be useful while Komaeda even if his actions saved them were just making them uncomfortable or just bad.
Will you be happy if your friend risk life of many people? If he would constantly making you worry or sad? They were prejucided that he will do something wrong or strange. It’s like Komaeda is equal to word “only bad things happen”. They builded a wall formed by doubt.
Is it justyfing how harsh they were for him?
No. No one deserves to be bullied. No matter how annoying their attidute is. It’s much better if they would ignore him and they mostly did this. They just weren’t able to resist it all the time.

Wild Lucindae appears~
I will try to explain as much as I am able to! I wanted to respond you earlier but computer had a bad day. You are always welcome to ask. Related or not, it’s a good question.
You are right. I used that word without thinking. I just thought about it as a perfect one for describing Komaeda’s feelings in this song. He didn’t have to hesitate as he usually did - he was himself in it. While Zanka was portraying purity and delicate side of his soul, Absolute Hope’s Birthday was an essence of fascination, curiosity and need.
Possessiveness doesn’t have to be an immature feeling. Person can be caring and possesive at the same time. You used an great example which happened in chapter two. Komaeda wanted to spend time with Hinata but at the same time he was observing his reaction. He was doing it from the beginning of the game.
Komaeda isn’t jealous while he isn’t possesive in exact way how it’s explained in dictionaries.
“Possesive person is someone who wants to have all of someone loved attention and will not share it with anyone else.”
Komaeda wants Hinata’s attention. He wants all time he is willing to give him and uses all methods he can to make him to that, he doesn’t want anyone else to have him but he respect his pesonal space and beliefs. Is there a better word for describing person with trait llike that? I don’t know.
“Huh, don’t tell me you…”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“You’re being really loud… I know you’re doing that on purpose…”
There is a room for a doubt. Is he being loud on purpose because Akane or Hiyoko would feel disgust hearing that or because of his tactlessness? There is also a possibily two of those options are correct.
Komaeda never wanted to be close to anyone because of his circle of luck. His classmates tried to ignore him most of the time even if he would love to talk with them. I’m stating the obvious but… isn’t it weird? Komaeda who tried to avoid getting along with all his classmates, treated himself as a trash and was able to help the Ultimates only by actions which didn’t gain him any of their sympathy, stayed with Hinata while he was unconscious. He tired to do his best to talk with him normally to the point Hinata enjoyed his company. It’s the opposite action to the one he decided in Hope’s Peak Academy.
Komaeda is observant. He is also overall interested in Hinata. He stated that he hates activities which involves fatigue (like running) or being in possible danger…
Tumblr media
Huh? He is in the water! Well, there is an explanation for that too…
“Let’s swim!”
“I really want to do that, but… Hmmm… it might be better if we play on the shore. A tidal wave might suddenly come at you, or stormclouds might start gathering nearby for some reason… I have my luck so I’ll probably be fine, but it would be bad if you got involved.”
“I think that’s a bad idea. There are lots of ways that could be dangerous. But I don’t mind if you just want to see me naked.”
Let’s focus on the photo, shall we? SDR2 is from the Hinata point of view, that means that “picture/photo” is also from his perspective. I love how Komaeda is exacly in the centre of the picture, smiling and blinking. What I am getting at is, even if we as viewers of this photo are focusing on Mikan or Mahiru because they are in the foreground, Hinata was looking directly at Komaeda.
It’s not the only thing that captures my attention, thou. Komaeda doesn’t want to lose to any of girls, that’s why he decided to do this. He wanted to show that he is attractive too dispite the risk.
He continues a behavior like that till the end of the investigation. He is spending as much time as he can with Hinata before executing the plan, showing his best side, comforting him and telling him all he needs to know. He was feeling enough bold to tell Ibuki “I’ll let you bite Hajime”, which is quite blunt even if it can be considered a joke. As if he wanted unconsciously tell Ibuki whose Hinata is. Komaeda’s tactless side hints, probably.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Komaeda was always chosing Hinata to talk to. I can give a bunch of photos as examples but there is a limit to how many photos I can upload.  He always responded when Hinata asked a question before and after visiting Final Dead Room. He ignored everyone else despite him after fourth trail. He was using the fact he had information to get his attention. It’s also very visible on trails when he is arguing with him to make his position within the class stronger even if at the beginning it seemed pointless. He used every opportunity he had to get his attention.
To be fair, I see a scene you mentioned differently. To me, Komaeda was trying to get Hinata’s company without caring too much if Chiaki is going with them or not. And then, when she suggested she will do something else Komaeda was shocked that Hinata cared about her presence. In fact, I believe Chiaki was aware of that. She knew Komaeda liked Hinata and he was their only connection to Komaeda. We cannot forget she had a role of observer. She wanted everyone to get along. Komaeda was on of hers patients too. Chiaki’s role was to make everyone understand each other. Komaeda needed someone who will try to understand him, someone alive for whom Komaeda would want to wake up.
“Hmm… How should I lure out Nagito?”
Tumblr media
Komaeda isn’t someone who feels that he is worth Ultimate’s time. He couldn’t be selfish enough to confess his feelings. That’s why he is doing everything other way around. The only one time when he was honest with Hinata was when he was sick and Hinata couldn’t understand him.
Tumblr media
That’s what I’m talking about. He is incredibly happy by doing something which help him to get Hinata’s approval. Not anyone else but Komaeda wil make him happy. It’s not some obsessive feeling but a warm one. Especially for someone with a low self-eestem.
BONUS:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He is saying that after reveal! If it isn’t a hint for his true feelings and what he really intended to do then I don’t know what is.

ANOTHER SONG’S ANALYSIS: POISON
It has been a long time since I uploaded an analysis, isn’t it right? I’ll give you everything I have on my mind on this one! Stay with me for a while~
I choose this time a Danganronpa 3: Despair Side ending. It’s a little birthday present for our Komaeda who celebrated his birthday on 28th April. I wasn’t able to upload it back then.
I’m aware that according to Ogata, Zettai Kibō Birthday is how Nagito feels outside and Zansakura -zanka- is how he feels on the inside. Still, I believe there is more into it, especially considering all hints within choosen pictures in the credits.
Don’t forget the fact that his “outside” feelings are also part of him and they are as much important as his hidden deep down wishes and desires. All things matters and we shouldn’t forget he did terrible things because of his beliefs. That’s him with all his flaws…
And we can’t simply ignore him, because of that.
Let’s move on and see what is hiding between the lyrics!
TL;DR: Komaeda is expressing his genuine feelings towards Chiaki’s death but at the same time he isn’t regreting anything he did in the past.
I had a hard time with deciding how I should start this analysis. I needed to point out basics to flesh out my statements. For this one, the most important fact is that to understand that ending and it’s meaning it’s necessary to believe Komaeda sang it after Despair Side events were finished. I’ll risk even more detailed answer - he sang it after Hope Side was portrayed. Why?
The lyrics are clearly breaking the third wall and spoiling up coming events of Despair Side. It’s also really mysterious how Komaeda is able to sing that song before approaching Izuru and sacrificing Chiaki!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We should deal with this mystery first. I believe there are two the most possible explanations which are supplementing each other.
1. Komaeda knows at this point of the story about Kamakura Project.
He isn’t singing a whole song, even if he is singing it with the correct notes and tune.  He just felt a random rythm and he was singing while he was fantasizing about incredible person with absolute power of hope.
2. Komaeda completed the lyrics for this song after meeting Izuru in person and Chaki’s death.
It’s a theory which is an excellent addition for @doodlede88 theory about Despair Side being only an Ryouta’s anime. Make sure to read it if you hadn’t already! I added a link for it.
If that’s the truth, when Ryouta worked on that anime? It’s my personal headcanon which not all of you will agree, but I believe he did it after Hope’s Side events.
Ryouta was guilty this whole time because of how he ended up in Junko’s hands. His dream were used to crush people who forgave him later despite all his mistakes which led them to their state and Chiaki’s death. He also were grateful for Yukizome’s presence as much as the others, he admired her as all of them. If there is something for them what only he can do, what can it be?
The answer is only one - anime.
Not anime which would cost him all his nerves and make him sleepless, not the one which would make him lonely and desperate. We are talking about an anime which would allow everyone to participate in making it. The one which would be a memorial of their struggles.
Can you imagine it? Ryouta awkwardly asking if they are wanting to make an anime with him and everyone agrees with the idea. All of them are trying to express their feelings by narrating the story from their point of view. Little by little, everyone is working hard on opening up and remember all feelings from their past. Akane with her bluntness easily telling in front of everyone how she was training with Nekomaru or all strange medicines or food Teruteru let her ate. That awkward moment when especially Sonia and Mahiru are embrassed when they are disscusing about that one time when Saionji made them eat a special soup which made them horny. All of them were somehow ashamed in front of Hinata who didn’t except they were normal to being with.
All of it, all happened and they remembered it. They were listening and talking, all of them in their own peace when they were ready. Ryouta was slowly gathering all the pieces together and make their memories alive again.
… and I believe Komaeda and Ibuki were working with him on the ending song.
Ibuki with her absolute hearing is the best choice for making their own song. It’s also believeable she would acknowledge Komaeda’s talent for singing. All Ultimates from 77th Class knew Ibuki’s songs without any help all a total mess but Ibuki being intrigued by Komaeda’s voice and trying to make her melody fitting it…? It sounded as an excellent idea.
There are a lot of feelings which Komaeda would want to capture. He has always been two steps ahead than others. He is also the type of person who would hid his true intentions behind fancy or inappropriate words - aware of that or not. That’s my reason to believe this song is really misleading at first.
This is a song about shameless feelings and obligations.

He is also the type of person who would hid his true intentions behind fancy or inappropriate words - aware of that or not. That’s my reason to believe this song is really misleading at first.
This is a song about shameless feelings and obligations.
Tumblr media
The beginning of the song which is a melodic part is showing a not completed picture of Chiaki being made from memories of Class 77.
“In the middle of the campus at night*. It takes my heart away as I continue to wait. “I was born to meet you.” Is what I think, and at that very moment.”
Komaeda is singing as if he is telling a story about his past feelings to someone. He is admiting and showing his impatience and fascination while thinking of that person. He is absorbed by greatness which was consuming him. He haven’t seen Izuru yet but this moment is about to come soon.
Tumblr media
“I’ll have boot up, warm up, hang up... Make up, mess up, down up... I’ll dedicate all that I have to you.”
He is singing with confidence about future events and tell us about terrible things that has to be done. The picture of Chiaki is even more visible than before. He uses concrete words while her picture is slowly being near completion. He has to boot up, warm up, hang up... her - Chiaki.
He needs to make her aware of the problem, give her an explanation about how enormous the problem is and then sacrifice her. He did all of those horryfing things. Everything he is doing is for that person and he means it.
Tumblr media
That’s right, I’ll think up, pop up, pull up... Brush up all to protect it. The greatest, final ray of hope.
He changes “have to” into “will”, as if he is admitting he will do without a room for doubt. It’s no brainer for him - decision has been made becuase he has to protect hope which is going to win in the end.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh how it shines and dazzles. Show me more of you at your most brilliant!
Komaeda is commenting on how Chiaki’ is shining while fighting against despair. He is heart-broken deep down but he hadn’t have a choice. It was something they couldn’t avoided.
With unstoppable groove, overcome despair to cast your light. (I miss you)
Komaeda is cheering for her to be as strong as she can be. He wants her to remain undefeated dispite circumstances. He isn’t feeling guilty because that’s how things were always executed in his life. One person instead of all of them - that was the price. It doesn’t mean he was heartless, in fact he was concerned. He was crying, he was devastated and he missed her as much as every person he lost before.
Tumblr media
It’s the birthday of absolute hope.
It’s a birthday of Hajime Hinata.
Then, in the end of the first part - in the end of Chiaki’s part of the song’s lyrics - Chaki’s shown holding a little star which is splitted on the picture as if it’s made of hope fragments.
The star is symbolizing that Chiaki was the heart of Neo World Program, she was the reason for it to exist. If someone as her wouldn’t exist they weren’t be brainwashed and avoided death. It’s also really beautifuly capturing how Chiaki AI was made from scattered pieces of their memories and their feelings for her.
I keep waiting with bated breath for the very moment you wake up. The muddy stream of red tears, being pushed and swallowed, sinking further down.
Komaeda is still focusing on talking to someone important for him. His mind is corrupted and his feelings about Chiaki are being messed up by Junko’s Despair Video. He and his classmates have now only one path in their mind which is leading them to destroy everything they cared about.
So lock up, mix up, cut up… Key up, sex up, wrap up. I'll let you mess me up and indulge. Break up, use up, end up… hook up—because we're connected.
Komaeda is getting really offensive and sensual at the same time. He is almost begging a person for whom he is singing to make a use of him but at the same time he is strangely confident about himself. He isn’t begging, he is demanding. His awareness of their unexplainable bound is giving him courage and makes possesive. It’s all portrayed as a twisted way of expressing love.
It’s similar to how possesive he was towards Hinata when they were together investigating cases or even before that.
The omen of hope after the worst disaster.
Their meeting is like a light showing up after a storm.
Wow wow... dance, sing ... Wow wow... surely, you captivate me with your happiest self! Wow wow... until I can't crawl up...
His field of vision is blurring in front of his eyes and despair video is making a mess within his head. He is fighting with it and he is losing that fight.
Only despair can create it,
(I want you)
The absolute hope is a die hard .
He is believing that only unstoppable despair can create unstoppable hope. His mind is disoriented and filled with urges and desires. He justifies his actions by beliefs he trusted his whole life.
He desires Hinata more than anything else and understands that he got to know him because of Hinata’s desperation and helplessness.
Wow wow... dance, sing... Wow wow... captivate me with your happiest self.
Show me that carefree side of you.
"Always!"
Be my light whenever I’ll go.
wow wow... sparkling, shining, wow wow... captivate me even more with your best self! wow wow... with the unstopping groove, overcome the despair and shine.
Be even better, be even stronger... Be able to destroy something I couldn’t on my own, Hinata.
(I miss you)
[I want to watch you at your best, Chiaki.]
[I want you to be happy and alive-]
The absolute hope is a die hard... It’s absolute’s hope birthday!
It’s a birthday of Hinata Hajime.
The brainwashing process is completed with a full success.
At first it can seem chaotic, I’m aware of that. I intended not to use Izuru’s name the whole song... becuase I believe it wasn’t a song for him even if it’s surely highly related to his character.
I believe that Komaeda is singing this song with intention to shamelessly show his attraction to Hinata. He wasn’t aware of his existence back then but he is fond of him in the future - when he sings that song. All things he did - his encounter with Izuru, death of Chiaki, spending time with Monaka was all for that only reason - to finally get to know the real Hinata, someone who changed his life and turned it upside down. He couldn’t know that, again. Still, it’s a song where he is interpreting past events.
He is step by step showing all his sins which led him to a road where two of them were able to meet with each other. He felt guilt deep down becuase in the end Chiaki was being used to make that happen. Now, that he undestands that every live matters - he really feels bad about it. His safe-zone which he created after his parents died was destroyed because of events which happend in Neo World Program. It made him able to express his feelings how they really were.
He used his past feelings and mixed them with his present feelings. He used despair he felt back then to apologize Chiaki becuase he wasn’t able to protect her. He used an easy way out.
That’s what is explaining a last part of the song where fascination is mixing up with a geniuine feeling of missing someone. He wants to feel hapiness without thinking he stole someone’s else happiness.
I feel I said everything I can for now. If something isn’t clear I will respond to everyone who will ask me/comment/reblog it. Thank you for your time! I really apperaciate it! I will also talk with all of you who are dissagreeing with me!
Komaeda is really egoistic and posessive when it comes to Hinata.
Is it a bad thing? He is only a human as we all are.

- Akane providing a lot of food for Chiaki and her brothers and sisters under Memorial,
- After three days, everyone can smell it and find out about Memorial,

- Akane suggesting that everyone should sleep together on the floor because there is no better feeling in the world than warmth of other people,
- Sonia sleeping between Peko and Akane preventing Souda to touch her,
- Sleepy Mikan almost stomping on Hinata’s Ahoge, but Komaeda in deep sleep bring him closer to his side,
- Girls with their messy hairs in bathroom trying to smooth Akane’s hair,
- Mahiru asking other girls if she should have longer hair, but they telling her she looks awesome the way she is,
- Girls going alone to kitchen and eat everything Teruteru prepared even if they should store their food,
- Akane telling Peko exacly why she should eat more,
- Girls trying to talk about girly stuff but they are too weird for “normal subjects”,
Girls just being themselves and having fun <3

[Post inspired by arts_shadyjoker & @kassistav & @rirururu.]
LINK: http://rirururu.tumblr.com/post/157551822967/kassistav-instagramcomartsshadyjoker
I’m huge Harry Potter nerd so I couldn’t resist a urge to comment on that post. At first I was about to simply repost it… but I really wanted to expand that topic so I just started “a new thread”. Why? Mostly because I strongly disagree with Komaeda being in Slytherin! I also don’t think Hinata would be in Hufflepuff. I would love to comment about other characters from DR universe but let’s start with simply Komaeda and Hinata.
[WARNING, SPOILERS FOR ALL DANGANRONPA GAMES AND ANIME INCLUDED!]
Komaeda in Slytherin:
I agree with people who thinks that Komaeda really suits to Slytherin standards. He is smart, manipulative, good at using people’s traits against them and merciless for himself when it comes to his goals. His deduction skills are incredible and his, most of the time, calm and calculative personality can be really misleading.
“You admitted it yourself, so what’s wrong with Komaeda as Slytherin?”
To be honest, for me Komaeda is a true Hufflepuff.
No, I didn’t based my opinion on Fantastic Beasts which probably changed a lot of people’s opinion about Hufflepuff. It’s just a conclusion which I reached after understanding his character. The Sorting Hat is able to reach the deepest thoughts and dreams in anyone who is brave enough to put it on and I’m sure it would see Komaeda’s true colours.
Hufflepuff is different than other houses. It simply requires loyality as the most important trait from their students. They also highly value equality, hard-work and fairness. This house apperaciate patience.
Komaeda in the unhealthly and dangerous enviroment like Killing School Trip is showing much more of his Slytherin side than Hufflepuff. He isn’t hiding his feelings but they are covered by his actions and indirect words. It’s a fact, all cunning Komaeda used isn’t provided by selfishness and desire to live - it’s all because he belives that it will help his friends. He risked his life without any plan in Final Dead Room. He was ready to tell Hinata how awesome talent he has! I hinted it in my previous posts but I believe Komeada deep down wanted Hinata and others to survive more than anything.
He was often misunderstood by his classmates who never cared to really understand him. Even so, he always wanted to be useful for them. That was the reason for him to do terrible things because no one told him despite Yukizome that it isn’t the way to solve problems. Later on, only Hinata was trying to tell him directly in a way he could think about it that nothing good will be born by killing people.
Komaeda was during all events of SDR2 selfless. He was underastimating his own value and when he actually started to see how he is outsmarting most of his admired Ultimates he wasn’t even doing it for his own pleasure. He didn’t have fun at all. He was looking for a cure for his uneasiness. He also never betrayed Hinata’s exceptations. He was doing everything by a plan which could be (and was) reavealed. He didn’t destroy any evidences needed to solve a case. He gave them a chance. It was a fair trail. He used his talent as everybody else before. That was theirs fault to underastimate it. Komaeda even reminded them before he killed himself about how he trust them and his ultimate luck. He wanted to point it out in their minds.
It’s all there: sense of fairness, trust, loyality and determination.
Don’t forget about SDR2.5 which is like a Ultimate Proof for my statement. It’s showing him in the fullest. He couldn’t be misunderstood there by his own mind and Hajizuru.
I’ll point out the most important part of it, needed for that post, which is about role which Souda have. It is our last, lost, element. Souda who never had a chance to be someone important to Sonia in Komaeda’s dream is able to make his dream come true simply by hard-work and braveness. He longed for it so long and his work wasn’t in vain - he reaped what he saw in Komaeda’s dream.
World made simply by a desire for everyone to be equally happy. That’s a definition of happiness for Komaeda. Everything is a reflection of their hard-work. The only one problem in that world is, that Komaeda couldn’t bring himself to be happy along with everyone as he didn’t treat himself as the others because of his cursed fate.
Hinata in Hufflepuff:
Hinata is often interpreted only by his actions in SDR2 and Kibou-hen. I don’t mind that. It’s part of him but not everything he was and is. As in Komaeda’s case I understand why people see him as a Hufflepuff.
It’s mostly because of his ability to help others without asking questions and how he was able in all FTE’s make his “classmates” comfortable in his company. When he is focusing on someone else he really do his best, right? It’s admirable. Not everyone has ability to listen.
He valued friendship and was quite clumsy and naive.
I can’t think of anything else at that moment which is strictly bonding him to Hufflepuff. That leads to question, which house I think is suitable for him.
Answer is Slytherin.
Slytherin could be considered as complete opposite to Hufflepuff, especially with considering that house main values. Slytherins are proud people with strong desire to accomplish grateness. They are bounded to traditions, loyal to themselves and their families - not to everyone equally, smart and good at using information or gathering them for their own profit.
Let’s start with DR3: Despair Side. We had opportunity to see a real Hinata in that arc. He was miserable and most of us can agree that Slytherins are not associated with losers. Still, what’s important is Hinata’s view on Hope’s Peak Academy. It’s also pointed out in SDR2 - as his memory which was “taken” from events before he attended to Hope’s Peak. He never doubted a system of talent. He joined Academy to achive something great. That’s very Slytherin like.
When he crossed paths with Nanami, he was glad to have a friend of that much importance. She was from Main Course. It’s true, he never used her to get to know other Ultimates but he was truly blessed by her presence. That was enough for him because he focused on something every unhealthly Slytherin would do - his own insignificance.
He tried really hard to avoid a problem. Natsumi didn’t help him at all when she pierced him with his own thoughts. He pited her when she was crying about how she was a Ultimate Little Sister for Kuzuyuu. Mostly because, he was understanding the strong desire to have a talent. At first he thought it was just irrelevant or simply stupid. Talent like that not isn’t existing. He wouldn’t be satisfied with something without sense. It can be also proved by his reaction on Komaeda’s talent or conversations about his own talent. Hinata never wanted to have a useless talent.
Nanami convinced him about being talentless isn’t a bad thing but he wasn’t believing in it with all his might. Those thoughts were just his comfort-zone. After Sakakura’s brutal reminder of how things really are in Hope’s Peak Academy, he decided to take a part of Kamakura Project. No, he didn’t think:
“He is messed up! I only wanted as a HUMAN BEING meet my friend!”
“Something is really wrong with how things are solved here! I must protect Nanami, find a way to talk with her!”
He almost already assumed that the only way is to get a talent, be someone worthy. As if he isn’t already just by being a human with whom Nanami had fun.
There we have: strong desire for achiving grateness, the most important of all Slytherin traits.
For those of you who aren’t satisfied - we’ll continue.
SDR2: His desire to have a great talent is still there. Idea of having it even if doesn’t remember it is comforting him. But, we will focus for now on something different. Hinata didn’t trust Usami from the beginning of the story. He was suspicious and cautious as every Slytherin would be. He didn’t care if that would change a mood and made everyone feel uneasy. Of course, Hinata isn’t as smart as Komaeda who hide his intentions till first trail, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be Slytherin or Komaeda a Hufflepuff.
Hinata never had as twisted beliefs as Komeda and he didn’t consider killing someone a good thing but before fouth trail he was considering someone get killed. Of course, he never wanted to be a victim or Nanami to be. He cared about her. He also knew based on experience that if one of them would do this, their class would find it out. His selfishness at that moment was stronger than anything. It’s very Slytherin like to survive by any means.
It’s also a fact that he didn’t care about Naegi, Kirigiri and Togami. He was about to stay in the program to live if Nanami wouldn’t interfere. He considered her as his moral compass.
Hinata is loyal to those he likes. He is trying to understand their feelings which is the reason for Komaeda to get so close to him. That’s a Ravenclaws’s and Slytherins’s trait but Hinata is really trying to understand things. He isn’t satisfied with half-baked answers so he is digging as much as he can. That can be seen the most in Komaeda’s FTE or on trails. Still, Ravenclaws are doing it more for the sake of knowledge or interest and Slytherins for their own benefit or interest, mostly two of those together.
It’s also very Slytherin like to be abe use drastic methods when their life are at stake. Chapter 3 of SDR2 is a good prove of that. After all, no one believed him despite Komaeda who is a murderer. At that point of the story everyone started to be much closer to each other emotionally. Chapter 5, can be used too.
As for Kibou-hen, where we can finally experience his healthly Slytherin side:
He is happy to be an Ultimate with all his memories within him. His dream of being talented finally came true. Hinata also have a possibility to take care of his friends which are like family to him.
To be honest, he wasn’t even that much interested in helping Naegi. Mikan took care of Kirigiri. He “wasted” time on Yukizome who was already dead - as if he forgot that people are still dying over there. He helped Ryouta instead, who was important for Imposter. Of course, helping Ryouta was like preventing world from destruction but I can’t help feeling that was his second “main goal”. Even then, when Souda for fun reminded him about being Reserve Course Student he felt a little bit provoked.
That’s the end. It took so long, but I think it was worth it!

[Parallel]
Tumblr media
Hello! I want to thank all of you for your support!
It’s a unofficial second part of my post about Hinata’s view on Chiaki and Komaeda. This time I want to show you how similar Hinata and Komaeda are and how it’s showing in Komahina & Hinanami. I used word parallel not without a reason. That’s why this time we will analyze in detail how Hinata cared about Chiaki and Komaeda about Hinata. Enjoy!
FIRST PART:
http://ladylucindae.tumblr.com/post/156740327682/comparison
RENDER: Nemi20
ARTIST: ???
HINATA’S PAST SIDE:
Hinata met Chiaki by accident. She got attached to him quickly because with him she was able to do something she always dreamed of - spending a time with a friend and have fun. Hinata couldn’t believed that his presence was the only thing she really needed. It was strange and rather... normal. He was lonely as her but it was a problem someone as miserable like him, not an Ultimate.
Tumblr media
Hinata couldn’t accept himself the way he was at that time. He admired Chiaki becuase she was a part of Main Course. He tensed up in her presence and he couldn’t help being proud that she choose him as companion even if it was weird for him. Chiaki tried her best to help him and make him understand how being talentless isn’t wrong. In her eyes he was free. He could be anyone he wanted to be. He wasn’t bounded to games like she was.
Time they spend together were precious to both of them. Hinata at that point was even more frustrated to be a part of Main Course. Chiaki was there and he wasn’t good enough to spend time with her. Everyone looked down on him, even his classmate Natsumi Fuyuhiko who should understand his feelings.
Tumblr media
Hinata was inspired by her and that small light encouraged him to ask about what happened to her. It was the only one moment where Hinata was on the way to accept himself. “I’ll do it! I’ll find her and do something to help!”. He wanted to consider himself as Chiaki’s friend. He wanted to be her friend. Sakakura smashed his braveness without any shame. A wall beetwen Chiaki and him was too sturdy to destroy with his own determination.
Tumblr media
Hope’s Peak Academy made him believe that this goal could be accomplished only by taking part in Kamakura Project. There is a high possibility that Hinata being always neglected or even abused by his parents never had an opportunity to develop a healthly friendship with anyone. He admired Hope’s Peak Academy becuase he tried to find a way to make impossible possible. It was a Hope’s Peak Academy after all, who would help him better than them?
His past self was cursed by admiration.
KOMAEDA’S NEO WORLD PROGRAM SIDE:
Komaeda needed someone who could accept him with all his flaws. It wouldn't be possible without Neo World Program for him to realize that he is able to find his happiness. He was self-loathing but he couldn't accept getting close to someone without talent. That's crucial part. Komaeda believed Hinata was Ultimate even better than himself - that's why was interested in Hinata and his bystander aura.
The difference between Hinata & Chiaki and Komaeda & Hinata was that Hinata in Komaeda's company didn't feel inferior even if Komaeda was feeling this towards him just not as strong as usual with others Ultimates. Komaeda's situation is the same as Hinata's in Chiaki's case.
Tumblr media
Their relationship changed drastically after Komaeda's reveal. Yet, Komaeda couldn't understand why Hinata was different from all the Ultimates. He was still talking to him even if he was undoubtedly mad, he was checking on him and didn't say harsh words like Souda and he was clearly worried about him when he was in the Hospital. Again, a parallel with Chiaki's and Hinata's relationship. Chiaki was always concerned about their meetings, she was always trying to support Hinata and she was mad at him when he ditched her. This anger quickly changed into sadness and worry.
Just like Hinata, Komaeda was attached to Hinata as he was to Chiaki. The difference was in their self-awareness. Komaeda was conscious of nature of feelings towards Hinata while Hinata was admiring Chiaki because he felt he doesn't deserve her the way he was at that moment - talentless. Komaeda struggled because of those feelings and couldn't tell them directly but they were definitely there. It sounds familiar, right?
Tumblr media
"I love hope. You admire hope. In some ways we're similar, but maybe that difference is what's making me so emotional."
And that's the whole point! Komaeda is saying those words to Hinata after realizing Hinata is Reserve Course Student. He is confused but he can't help still loving Hinata for all kindness and support he gave him. He deep down accepted Hinata the way he was, his true appearance not the one he was imagining. That's why he took his hand after waking up from Neo World Program. He accepted Hinata as he accepted his flaws.
Tumblr media
“Ahh... Kamakura Izuru? No, you’re, uh, Hinata, right?”
He was in the middle of waking up and he bearly recognized anything but he heard Hinata’s voice and it probably reminded him about his dream in Neo World Program with Hajizuru. Yet, he almost already corrected himself and asked if person in front of him is the person he wanted to meet the most.
SUMMARY:
Admiration couldn't make a healthy relationship. Hinata was too focused on being equal rather on his own true feelings for Chiaki or her feelings for him. He almost made it. He almost was on his way to realize that in relationships talents don't matter but... he failed. His faith was crushed.
The saddest part of this comparison is Komaeda was able to understand his feelings and accept things way they were, while Hinata never did that in the first place. He never accepted himself or see real Chiaki - normal girl, who wanted to make a lot of friends and play video games.
Komaeda's and Hinata relationship could end up the same as theirs but Komaeda got the chance to grow up on his own peace.
I also believe that Hinata and Chiaki could develop healthly friendship or romantic relationship but only if Chiaki would survive The Most Tragic Event In History Of Mankid. Hinata was too immature in Despair Side.
TL;DR: Komaeda was in the same situation as Hinata but instead of neglecting real Hinata he choose to accept him.

[Comparison]
Tumblr media
It takes a lot of to actually see something the way it is. I am Komahina fan. I see this ship as true and beautiful friendship with a lot of potential to be a healthy romance in the future. Even so, I don’t neglect Nanami’s influence on Hinata. She was his bright sunlight in the darkest times of his life. He changed for her, she was the reason for him to become a better person. We know that it ended up horrifying. I just… I don’t want, as Chiaki doesn’t either, to forget about her. I am going to analyze events from Hinata’s point of view from the beginning to ending. It will be long feels trip, prepare yourselves!
ARTIST: 貝殼子
[POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM SDR2 AND DANGANRONPA 3 AND DANGARONPA 2.5 OVA]
Hinata was probably as vulnerable as Komaeda in Despair Arc. He was lost, he didn’t feel comfortable in his skin and then as a beautiful star which crossed his galaxy - Chiaki appeared in his life. Her smile was his anchor. She found her charming and out of his reach. Yet, he wanted do believe he could be part of her galaxy. Sakakura broke his dream, broke him.
After that, Hinata is lost. He is in deep long and sluggish dream where he can’t see or hear anything. And then, in the darkness he is hearing her soft broken voice, she is trying to reach out for him. He wants to respond her. He wants to cry for help… He can’t do it. He doesn’t have a voice or will. He doesn’t exist. Yet, he struggles. He feels deep down even if he doesn’t have form.
Tumblr media
He is crying. His soul is crashing. In a sleep without dreams, tears cannot be seen.
Tumblr media
And suddenly… he wakes up. All he can see is a boy with messed up hair. He is trying to avoid him, make him go away but he isn’t doing it conveniently. Hinata can say for sure he isn’t reliable but his presence was calming. They are walking together, talking with each other and Hinata realizes even without remembering his talent, he doesn’t feel bad. Nagito Komaeda makes him feel safe even if Hinata’s body tense up by meeting those talented people.
Tumblr media
Then, he meets her again. He doesn’t know how precious she is to him. Her anchor, Chiaki Nanami was right in front of him and he couldn’t say her anything. He couldn’t apologize about not coming to see her. Hinata is still nervous and salty to everyone. He hides his negative thoughts as much as he can but can’t help feeling of stress. Komaeda is trying to calm him down and Hinata believes him. He really wants to.
Tumblr media
After that everything goes wrong. Komaeda is acting like crazy, which makes Hinata angry and sad at the same time. Chiaki is coming to his life again as bright light of candle. She is his company and strength in difficult time as she used to. He can feel strong bond with her as he did before without realizing it. Chiaki was always someone who makes him stand up on his own feet.
As his feelings for her was clear. He couldn’t say the same about Komaeda. He still felt strong bond with him but his feelings were unstable. He was feeling confused, angry, lonely and yet, he was still coming to talk to him. He wanted to understand why? Why he ended up like that? He never talked with Chiaki about her beliefs or family. He never wanted to disturb her personal space. She was his light, not an equal. Yet, with Komaeda he felt he could and should be angry, mad and distrustful… But at the same time he wanted to see what will happen if he gets hope he desired.
Tumblr media
He lost both of them. In the darkest time he still reached out to her. Chiaki responded. Chiaki has always been for him if he needed her. Then, everything changed. He took his time and gather thoughts. He had a lot to do, rescue Komaeda was one of them. He didn’t know for sure what to expect but he found courage to accept his past and make future. He didn’t forget he wasn’t the only one who needs an anchor.
Komaeda’s and Hinata’s eyes are full of emotions when they see each other after waking up. For both of them it was first time but they feel like it was one of many. Komaeda asked with whom he was talking. Hinata replied with his past and his future.
Tumblr media
Hinata for a long time couldn’t give up on his anchor. Chiaki was always with him, deep down. Yet, Hinata was changing and observing how Komaeda blossom like a flower. He could do anything even without his help. Hinata was worried but he knew it’s time to move on. It’s time to let Chiaki go and as she said make future, be independent. He was no longer these miserable boy without anything.
He accepted that Komaeda was his first friend as Chiaki. Then, he made a lot of them. “It isn’t a bad ending.” He couldn’t help but feel anxious about it. Yet, Chiaki is as always comforting him. That was her last time to do this. He couldn’t say it loud but she knew. He wanted to be happy, have a lot of fun even without her. She just looked at him and Komaeda with gentle expression when he turn back and smiled brightly to Komaeda.

[Poison]
Tumblr media
For those of you who don’t know. “Poison” is Komaeda’s character’s song. It’s a bonus track for the Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls Progressive Album. It was also used for the Island Mode in Super Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. It can be found on YT with english subtitles. I believe “Poison” is Komaeda’s song directly dedicated to Hinata. It also explains Komaeda’s feelings about what has to be done. There are subtle hints which showing he knew everything about Hinata’s “true identity”. It’s extraordinary how analazying it can lead to DR3/SDR2.5 hints! I wrote an interpretation after watching SDR2.5. That means all hints from OVA are included. For those of you who are interested, rest of the post is under “read more”.
ANOTHER SONG’S ANALYSIS: ABSOLUTE’S HOPE BIRTHDAY
ARTIST: ???
WARNING: POST IS HEAVILY KOMAHINA RELATED.
SONG’S WORDS ARE IN “”.
STAGE I: Komaeda is explaining his geniuine feelings. “I wish I meet the biggest hope, glistens than other which” He wishes to see blinding hope which leads to everyone’s future. “I want to see a desire, glistens than anyone else” He wants to see someone’s desire, which will change everything he knows about miserable world. “I love, and want to understand him more than anyone else” “…more, more than anyone else…” Then, he confess his love to Hinata and express desire to understand him as if he sees only him as someone capable to change their future.
STAGE II: Komaeda understands with all knowledge he possesed  that all of them needs to sacrifice something for hope to born. “I have no need for worthless things - anything ordinary and boring” Komaeda admits he never wanted to be classified as ordinary or have something in common with normal people. “What meaning is there to words that will neither be deadly poison nor cure?” He is confused now, when he knows the truth. Hinata is Reserve Course Student and within him is sleeping Izuru Kamakura. “I don’t care if nobody understands me” Komaeda is determined to kill himself and no one can stop him. “It’ll only take one second for the world of our [beliefs] to fall apart, after all” Dying is merely a moment but will cause everything to change.
STAGE III:  Komaeda is embracing despair while smiling at hope. “I [believe] that hope will overcome despair and shine” Komaeda highlights word believe thinking about Hinata. “And will offer my pulsating heart” “For the sake of that brilliance, I’ll tear apart my chest” He is believing no one other than him can do it. Only that way,  Hinata can change into their hope. “Until the very last drop trickles down and wets my lips” He will fight for it till the bitter end even if nobody understands.
STAGE IV: Komaeda is trying to give Hinata courage to accept his decision from the past. “Ordinary and boring people are the majority, because the world is filled with weaklings” Komaeda is commenting about Hinata being a Reserve Course Student. “You’ll only be able to make a giant killing once you stand before the abyss of despair” Komaeda admits that great things are made from the greatest sorrow. Hinata killed himself to be Izuru Kamakura. “There’s no way for everyone to soar” They have to move forward no matter what. “Because the world of our [beliefs] is so cruel, and takes but a second to change” World is cruel and in one moment all we believe can fall apart from knowing the truth.
STAGE V: Komaeda is wondering about Hinata’s decision but still wants to believe in him. “Believing that hope will overcome despair and shine” He reminds Hinata what is really important for them to make a new beginning. “Will you show no hesitation when drinking the poison poured into that glass” “Or will you abandon it at the end of much indecision?” What will Hinata do? Will he fall into despair from knowing the truth or reborn as cherry blossom? “I am merely watching over you, to whom the last choice is given.” Komaeda accepts the fact he is no longer with him directly. He entrusted all his hope to him.
STAGE VI:  Komaeda describes his vision of Hinata’s victory over despair. “The worst incident in the history of mankind has left this piece of land devoid of life, but the seeds are budding again” Their old lives are destroyed but they are able to wake up from very long despairful dream. “The sprouts of happiness should be able to blossom with much vibrance and strength…” They can find their happiness again if they are strong enough to try.
STAGE VII: Komaeda is speaking directly to Hinata. “I [believe] that hope will overcome despair and shine” He says again he believes Hinata is able to overcome his past. “And will offer my pulsating heart” He is not scared to become a sacrifice for him. “For the sake of that brilliance, I’ll tear apart my chest” He is believing in future they will create together. “Until the very last drop courses through my body and overwhelms me” Hinata’s feelings will reach him even if he no longer will be there.
STAGE VIII: Komaeda says his last words as if he is not here anymore. “I wish I meet the biggest hope, glistens than other which” He wanted to be a part of Hinata’s hopeful future. “I want to see a desire, glistens than anyone else” He wanted to see Hinata’s determination when he was facing  Junko and Naegi. “I love, and want to understand him more than anyone else” He confess to him once more because he is truly in love with him. “…more, more than anyone else… ” He wants to believe that time their spend together will make Hinata understand Komaeda’s  true feelings.
COMMENTARY: I want to add something as side note. Title: “Poison”  and other part  -deadly drug- has different meanings even if they are very similar without context.  if we consider all SDR2 events with interpretation: A) Poison which Komaeda used to kill himself and Nanami. It’s a superficial stratum. B) Deadly drug - Komeada’s love to Hinata which was one of the causes of his death. One of the other possibilites is that  “deadly drug” means his and Hinata’s admiration to Hope’s Peak Academy. They both can be accurate at the same time. That’s a hidden deep meaning stratum. As usual, I’m grateful that you’ve made that far! Comments are really apperaciated.

Komaeda’s Wonderland
Let’s appreciate little details from the OVA and new informations/ headcanons based on it! I’m assuming that world from the OVA was based on Nagito’s feelings for people he was aware of. Despite Alter Ego’s knowledge or Izuru Kamukura’s influence it was designed to be familiar for him.
[POST WAS MADE AFTER WATCHING VERSION WITHOUT SUBTITLES]
LIST:
1. Komaeda overrates Naegi to the point that even Sayaka is stunned by his charm at first glance.
2. He wants to be considered by Fuyuhiko and Souda as friend.
3. He acknowledges Mikan.
In his perfect world Hiyoko doesn’t bully her and they’re actually in good terms. He also remembers about Mitarai’s and Imposter’s wishes to be part of the class.
4. He likes Souda more than Gundham that’s why Sonia in OVA is interested in him.
5. He never actually wanted to destroy Seiko’s, Izaoyi’s and Ruruka’s friendship.
6. He knows Matsuda. [POSSIBILITY]
It’s theory but I think Nagito was one of his patients. It would explain why he recognizes Ryouko and Madarai.
7. He doesn’t like Chiaki. [POSSIBILITY]
She is absent in all scenes of the OVA. At this point of the story everyone’s data should be installed in the program. The other possibility is that with her around Komaeda wouldn’t feel able to make friends. She would steal his spotlight.
8. To protect his friends Komaeda is ready to trust power he hates so deeply.
9. He wants Monaka and other Warriors of Hope to be happy even if they’re not so precious to him as his classmates.
10. Last but not least. Komaeda deeply cares about his classmates because they are accepting him the way he is in this world. Look at Fuyuhiko after Nagito attacked him! He easily got over it and acted normal without yelling. That’s how friendship suppose to look like.
I’m done for now! Thanks all of you.
EDIT: In my opinion Hinata’s absence is justified. No one in OVA actually recognize him so data for his world’s perfect state must have been taken before events of SDR2. In that time Nagito didn’t know Hinata and his memory of Izuru was erased from his mind.
