My Top Ten Under Appreciated TV Shows:

10. Bad Education

Jack Whitehall’s sense of humour is very love it or leave it but he certainly shines in this comedy series. He plays a naive and dorky teacher who has a special bond with his students. The comedy is trashy but classically British and it has some great representation of characters.

9. Strangers with Candy

Amy Sedaris plays an ex con, addict, alcoholic in her mid 40s who goes back to high school. Hilarity ensues. Though the main character is iconic in her own right, Stephen Colbert as the wise and somewhat disturbed (and closeted) teacher is what makes this show so great. The comedy is rye, risqué and satirical. Underratedddd.

8. Arrested Development

Sorry How I Met Your Mother but I think this show might take the crown for the best running gags. From the terrible chicken impressions, to the time Tobias ‘blue’ himself even to GOB’s magic tricks (seriously I could go on) this show has it all. Directed well, acted out very well and written insanely well. This show is popular but not enough!

7. Angel

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was great, don’t get me wrong, but for a spin-off, this show is one of the best. David Boreanaz brings the ‘vampire with a soul’ to our screens with a cuddly hunky goofball attitude but brings in the serious moments too. Great action, great comedy, great characters, great chemistry, great story lines (except for a few BIG moments sorry guys but we all know Connor was a mistake)….

6. Misfits

A bunch of juvenile delinquents get caught in a freak storm during their community service hours. This causes them to gain powers, some incredibly handy and some that would be a damn nuisance. This show has some of the funniest one liners, strangest characters, good smut scenes and a killer soundtrack. A British favourite of mine.

5. Miranda

One of the rare occasions where the main character is actually the best character in the series. Though some of the minor characters are a little frustrating, their input and relationships together create a hilarious dynamic. Miranda is clumsy, goofy and down right odd but I think that’s why she’s so loveable. This show needs more attention.

4. Search Party

If you’re looking for character development, plot twists, a good soundtrack and aesthetic shots then this show is for you! It’s almost like Revenge meets Broad City. It’ll have you on edge with the thrilling mysteries but also have you on the edge of your seat with the drama and hilarity of the show. Bingeworthy af.

3. Frasier

Ok fine I admit this one IS popular and one of the most iconic sitcoms of all time BUTTT it needs more recognition. I was raised with this show but most people I know have never heard of it. The comedy of two know it all brothers who are constantly competing against one another in useless things included with a bunch of misfits that are their family and friends make this one a classic. Unlike other sitcoms of the previous few decades, this show gives audiences a sense of higher intelligence (albeit a false sense) with the constant talk about human biology, literature and Fancy Shmancy things but in a completely relatable and loveable way (this is coming from a dull bogan). Show this series to everyone you know, it is the best tv show.

2. Chewing Gum

Michaela Coel is unknown to most, but those who have the privilege of seeing her comedy are the best kinds of people. Bored on Netflix and want a semi short show to binge? THIS IS FOR YOU. Religious and naive, Tracy finds her sexual awakening and tries to navigate through life in a pretty awkward way. She is very loud and kind of obnoxious and often daydreams about guys. I absolutely lost it when she tried to pronounce French perfumes early in the first season. Probably a nsfw warning for this show. One of the only shows to actually make me laugh out loud. Well worth a watch.

BEFORE I GET TO NUMBER ONE HERE ARE SOME HONOURABLE MENTIONS:

- The Good Place

A fanstastic new show about the afterlife and one woman’s journey through ‘the good place’. Or is it not what it appears? The characters are very unique and the story lines are like no other show out there.

- Comedy Bang Bang

An off the cuff comedy talk show where nothing is off limits. Guests come on but don’t ever expect anything from them, sometimes this show will throw a curveball that will leave you slightly confused but you’ll be sitting in awe over the insane creativity this show has to offer. Oh and funny, very uniquely funny.

- Parks and Recreation

I can never express my love for this show enough. Any Poehler’s performance as a local government parks and recreation director absolutely obsessed with succeeding and doing her best is iconic enough as is. Add to that the running gags, hilarious side characters like Chris Pratt’s Andy Dwyer, a dull goofball and Nick Offerman’s Ron Swanson, who I’m pretty sure is one of THE BEST characters to ever grace the television screen.

- Community

A comedy where nothing is off limits.

You want animated episodes? This show has it.

You want a horror episode? This show has it.

You want a romance episode? This show has it.

You want a sci-fi episode? This show has it.

You want a school authority figure who wants more than anything to be loved but also dresses up in women’s clothes and flamboyant costumes to fit with the schools event or the annual holiday? Surprisingly, this show HAS IT.

AND FINALLY MY NUMBER ONE MOST UNDER APPRECIATED TV SHOW ISSSSS……

1. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Oh man if only this show was more mainstream. Rebecca, played by Rachel Bloom, is an overthinking, obsessive, loveable and dorky lawyer who moves towns after reuniting with an ex love of hers. Over the course of the series, she discovers why she truly is the way she is. Don’t be deterred by the title of ‘crazy’ as it all comes in to play in the actual show. The writing is spectacular and the timing and deliveries will make you fall in love with whoever created this greatness. Oops and I forgot to mention, the entire show is blessed with MUSICAL NUMBERS. They are brushed off as daydream sort of things but the songs range from dance numbers, to heartfelt songs of growth even to songs that straight up mention the fact that it’s a tv show. It is so meta at times that you’ll actually lose your mind. It is hilarious, deep, and will offer you songs to sing IN EVERY SITUATION. The ratings are too low to even make sense. Also it has a great variety of characters and you’ll see one of the best Bisexual characters on tv (and his performance of ‘Gettin’ Bi’). This is the most underrated and under appreciated show on tv and you can fight me over that.

Help Me

Hi guys, so I really want to lose about 20 kgs (roughly 44 lbs) and am struggling. I find myself with loads and loads of free time, but I have no money, my family are all busy and are unmotivating/live unhealthy lifestyles, and I’m depressed and find it extremely hard to motivate myself. How do I lose so much weight when I can’t afford a gym membership or to buy my own healthy foods??!! Also how do you deal with the whole facing the obstacle that is mental health and the lack of self-assurance? Any advice on losing weight would be extremely appreciated. I feel like I’m sinking in quicksand and my body refuses to help itself.
